by far the best course and lecturer i have ever had.
This is a great thinking class - it really forces you to challenge your values and assumptions. The prof is great - very personable. He makes lectures interesting by putting together skits and songs to help students remember the information.
Ron tries very hard. give him credit for that. I'm not in class to watch theatre though. didn't work for me.
Glasberg is a caring and passionate thinker. The course is a comprehensive tour de force of intellectual history. Be prepared to read many excellent thinkers. Be prepared to write. Most importantly, be prepared to miss this class when its over.
GNST 500- the best!
I took 300 with G. and found it hard b/c I wasn't ready to fully appreciate what I was being taught. I forced myself to take him for 500 and it was the MOST rewarding crse I took in 4yrs and my only prof that got a standing ovation & deserved every second
the best class i ever took. it changed my life and my outlook on my university career. He is an amazing professor. His class is tough work, but some how i managed to get through it. What ever he gets paid is not enough.
This was the most amazing class I have ever taken and I miss it every day. I took this class in 2002-2003 and am so grateful for the experience as it has changed my outlook on the world and life.
Awesome prof, really cares about what he is teaching and trusts in you to come up with your own opinion, however, the material of the class is not as exciting and interesting. Good Prof, not sure about the class.
Ron Glasberg is hands down the best professor that I have ever had in my three years of university. He is ridiculously compassionate about what he teaches and wants his students to be compassinate too. His lectures are always excting and original!
A rare gem in an institution of mediocrity.
amazing class..lots of work.. he is very supportive to his students and extra caring. Glasberg is an amazing prof
Yes, he tries, adnd yes, he's committed, but his ideas about the world come in twos and change with the years (Ie: left/right brain, external/internal) and that his ideas are so abstract that the TA's actually discount what he says in class, teaching us what the texts say. Hard to follow and yells. A lot.
LOVE IT!! I look forward to going to this lecture every day! Prof. Glasberg is extremly entertaining and has insightful ideas. For a class entitled "general studies" there are some very non-general concepts. The tutorials are very helpful in getting your head around some of the concepts. And the lectures are sooo great!!
He is very intelligent and has some interesting ideas, but he can be really abstract and hard to understand. He kinda takes himself really seriously too
Dr. Glasberg "RON" is AMAZING. He is so animated and passionate about students and their ability to grasp the freaky concepts of western civilization. He is really approachable outsides of lecture like in a tutorial setting. The epitome of the crazy university prof, but awesome
excellent prof
Not all he's hyped up to be. He's very abstract and while he's dedicated and genuinely enjoys his work, he's too immersed in right/left external/internal to actually give a decent lecture.
A great lecturer. Truly engaging teaching style. But beware of getting caught up in his way of thinking. It wears off once the course is over, and when you reflect on it you quickly realize that he actually believes a lot of the smoke that his student "disciples" blow at him singing his praises. He is good, but don't let him brainwash you.
Exhausts superlatives. A great privilege to have attended his classes.
P.S. Intro music always relevant but always deafening.
The BEST prof at this university. Insightful, inspiring, totally frank. Completely revolutionized my understanding of history. Expects you to meaningfully engage with the material. Not for people who want their hands held.
Easily my favourite prof at the University, but not for everyone. He's a very abstract thinker, and expects you to make the connections between readings and lecture on your own. If you're not the same, take the course with a different prof.
This guy is messed...If you need some sort of structure and a prof that doesn't run off on tangents every 2 minutes. This prof is not for you.
I took Glasberg's course back in 2006 and am still talking about it today. He is an incredible prof and is a rare gem. He makes you question, think, hate, love, and really develop yourself, your thoughts, feelings and beliefs. Be prepared to work and if you embrace it, it will change you.
This class is a ridiculous waste of time I cannot believe it is required.
Entertaining, yes. Did I learn much? No. After a few classes you soon realize that the edutainment taking place is mostly smoke and mirrors to cover up the fact you are merely a speck in a sea of 200 + students and you are not getting much value for your tuition fees. He at least seems to be having fun, though.
Brilliant professor... I don't normally even bother to use this site but he is so good at what he does I felt it was necessary.
Glasberg changed my life. GNST 300 gets ragged on, but 500 is a life-changing experience. I highly recommend you take it. Glasberg does everything he can to make sure his students are learning and striving to achieve a higher level of consciousness. This course should be required for every single major. Period.
Best teacher I've ever had in my life. This class will change you.
I don't know. Glasberg was okay, but one wonders where all the tuition money goes, given that the class is so huge. You would think class sizes could be smaller since tuition keeps going up. Like a commenter below I felt like I was just a number. It's not really how I envisioned university would be.
Took GNST 300 with him and it changed my life. He is the most dedicated prof I have ever met and he cares deeply about his students and his work. YOU WILL NOT BE A NUMBER IF YOU MAKE A REAL EFFORT IN THIS CLASS! Plus, if you actually show up, discuss, and do the work - you will legit have a life changing experience!
at first I hated this class, thinking he was a total nut that went off on tangents. then I actually started to read the texts and make the connections. This class requires every ounce of brain power but in the end it'll change the way you think about everything. I'm no longer in the communications dept but I will try and take GNST 500 with him.
Absolutely amazing
Life-changing professor and class. Whoever dislikes him obviously didn't attend or pay attention. Glasberg is a genius and extremely interesting. It's no accident he won the teaching award 15 times! The class requires a lot of thought but everyone who takes it is in love towards the end. TAKE IT.
This course is tough, definitely not easy. However, it is absolutely worth your time. Taking a class with Dr. Glasberg should be mandatory for all U of C students as he is life changing. He has won numerous awards and done a Ted talk - definitely worth you tuition to learn from this gentleman.
Extremely large workload!!!! Tough grading too! he is enthusiastic and interesting but way too much work! If you take this class you pretty much have to choose between a good grade in his class or the rest of your classes
this class really makes you use your brain. it really is not thaaat hard, but the concepts are difficult and the TA's are nazi's about marking your essays. Dr glasberg is wonderful but this class is definitely a LOT of work. many readings, many quizzes, 2 essays and a final.
He is a genius. One of the kindest and smartest people you will ever meet. A privelidge to be taught by him! TA's have a different outlook on marking than him. Are difficult markers but will help if you ask for it.Peer mentoring saved my life, go to their study sessions. Readings take up a ton of your time but are worth it personally & academically
Glasberg himself is a great professor, he has a very unique outlook on the course material. However, the TA's marked were very hard markers. Would take another class with him if there were different TA's.
I had him for GNST 300 (CMCL 300, 301) and he is AMAZING. He will change your LIFE if you let him. He's hilarious, engaging and brilliant. You have to think a lot, but hes the prof everyone who's taken these courses knows about, hes the best. THE BEST.
I had Glasberg for 300 and 500. It is a lot of work and the marking can be challenging (unless you ask for help), but it is also eye opening and one of the only classes I carry with me past university. I will forever look back on 300 and 500 as my favourite of my entire education and what university should really be about.
read the textbook regularly, attend his lectures and take notes. otherwise you will be lost when it's time to write an essay or the final exam. this class isn't super easy but not super hard either. try to understand the texts and when writing an essay remember it is your opinion that counts!
Enjoyed both his 301 and 303 classes. Definitely a must for those looking to learn, but not recommended for those only looking for a grade. Can be challenging, but a real eye-opening experience nonetheless. Highly recommended. Will definitely take more classes with him!
IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A CLASS TO SHOVE THEORIES DOWN YOUR THROAT THIS ISNT IT! If you want a class that makes you think, question and look at the world a little differently you have found the perfect prof. Make sure you read the readings before class and then again after. IF YOU GO TO NO OTHER CLASS ATTEND THE REVIEW! HE GIVES YOU THE ANSWERS!
Love this class! The prof will remember your name if you speak up a lot or if you come to his office. Very open to hearing what students have to say but he gets disheartned when people dont show up. I love to listen to him because he tells you what he thinks then he wants you to tell him what you think in your paper. Really Exellent Class to learn!
i had glasberg for both 301 and 303 and i absolutely loved this class. his opinions are refreshing, and he really wants you to use your brain. the answers for this class cannot simply be found on the internet, so you have to reallllly think hard for both essays, but trust me you will learn a lot!
Glasberg is brilliant. Best prof I have ever had. He has a different teaching style that is not for everyone, but if you engage in the lectures you will get a lot more out of it than any other class.
We sang 'bohemian rhapsody' in class so yeah...pretty good prof. He yells with enthusiasm and is energetic and exciting. also a super interesting class!
I great lecturer, very passionate about the subject. the course is a lot of work but he's great at teaching it.
Glasberg sincerely cares about his students. Why else would he change his entire course to accommodate all his student's different learning needs? Got rid of the quizzes and essays, and now all you have to do is reflective journals which you can hand in, in any form that you like whether that be voice recording of yourself rambling, pictures, etc
Glasberg is a MUST for ANYONE who wants to actually learn to think at University. He's phenomenal
Fantastic professor, this is what school should be like for everyone in every arts class. Not memorizing and regurgitating information, you actually have to think about and apply the information learned. Looking forward to CMCL 303 next semester and more classes taught by Glasberg. He's phenomenal!
BEST PROFESSOR THE UNIVERSITY HAS EVER HAD. Hands down. Don't let the reviews scare you, when they say he's tough it means he wants you to think critically, as in about your own life and place in the world. He's a prof you will ADORE, ask anyone and they'll tell you. The guy is famous on campus for being incredible. Just take a class. Trust me.
I went into this class thinking it would be my least favourite course this semester and it ended up being my favourite. As a fifth (and final) year student, I can honestly say this has been the most valuable course of my undergraduate career. Glasberg is passionate about teaching and he will make you passionate about learning. A must take for sure!
Awesome prof! Class if difficult but so worth it, he really helps students to develop their ideas and form their opinions.
BEST PROFESSOR EVER. SERIOUSLY - LIFE CHANGING. GUARANTEED A
Cannot say enough good things about Dr Glasberg or the CMCL 301, 303, 501 and 503 he teaches. He is one of the most lenient profs ever and truly cares about educating his students on not only the material but on what life really is about. In the 500s the classes were small and it felt like being in the dead poets society. LIFE CHANGING for sure.
Fantastic prof. very passionate and actually cares about students learning and relating to the material. Have taken a class with him before and will again. Love his lecture style and the exams are a cinch if you're prepared. I got 100% on my final exam
HE IS A LIVING LEGEND. EXCEPTIONAL THINKER. KNOWS EVERYTHING.
Take one of his classes. You will learn more from him in one lecture than you do from some profs in an entire semester.
By the end of the year, there was maybe 10% of people who attended class. These 10% are the people who are defending him. Everyone else got tired of his nonsense. TA's are very hard markers. Moreover, they require you to write 3 essays every 2 weeks, and they only grade one of them. As if we didn't have enough to do already. Don't take it.
Glasberg is a a professor that I am lucky enough to have had in my university career. I can honestly say he is an astounding thinker and wonderful professor! I've learned so much in this course and in lecture you can really see his passion for the topic and his students. If you have to take cmcl take it with glasberg.
Ronald Glasberg is an amazing Professor, he has the ability to change the way you view the world. Do not skip lecture and get ready to write a lot however the content itself is very interesting!
Glasberg is truly fantastic!!! Best professor I have had and doubt anyone can compare. He is flexible and caring. You obviously have to have an interest in history or the progression of civilization to want to read and attend lectures. If you enjoy writing this class should be fun for you, and if you don't, you have options to do other things.
Overall very interesting man, dives deep into topics to really make you think. However the tutorials consisted of writing 3 mini essays every 2 weeks and then the TA would mark only 1 of them. I probably went to 30% of the classes and I received an A. Do your readings, show up to tutorials and you will get the same. TEXTBOOKS NEEDED.
The best. You have to work very hard, but Glasberg pushes students to be the best. If you are a lazy student that just likes to float by, don't waste the time of the students who actually care about their education by taking this course.
Glasberg's classes are great. Very interesting, and they make you think, but at the same time it is very easy to get an A if you show up to tutorials and participate.
Yes, there's a lot of reading in this class - you'll manage if you're strategic. Glasberg is highly entertaining and sincerely cares about his students. He makes the subject matter interesting and relatable. I would advise you to write down his stories, they help you understand the FCAs for later use.
Glasberg is the best CMCL teacher hands down. There is tons of readings to do but the workload is manageable and with only one written exam (the final) his class was pleasure to manage. Big group project at the end but easy grading on all around. Great prof and never a dull moment.
This course definitely offers you an easy A. However, it also gives you the opportunity to learn something about life and the world. The "essays" people have mentioned are 3 journal entries that follow a specific format. Super easy to recreate each time in under an hour and get an A. So yeah, easy A, but Dr. G lets you actually think and learn.
JUST TAKE THE CLASS FOR THE BEAUTY OF WORDS, INSPIRATIONAL, MOTIVATIONAL!!! HE IS VERY HELPFUL AND THE CLASS IS AN EASY A THE TEXTS ARENT MANDATORY BUT GET IT FOR FUTURE PURPOSE!!
UNREAL PROF! If you put in even a small amount of effort to do some of the reading you will have serious revelations about your life. This guy is a gem.
Glasberg is amazing. He is extremely caring towards his students and he inspires you to really think about your life, goals, and aspirations. Lectures are pretty interesting if you like deep talks about modern day life. an A is easy if you allow yourself to think outside the box and try to keep up with the readings.
Amazing! By far one of the best profs at the U of C. He is encouraging, well read & incredibly charismatic with how he teaches. Expect a lot of freedom from this class but be sure to complete the assignments. You decide the due dates, worth, and content for them. There is a final exam so take notes and go to the tutorials for great discussion!
Professor Glasberg is amazing! He really cares for his students and is available to give extra help when you need it. He makes lectures interesting, even though the information is boring. Super easy if you try, and will let you know what he is expecting if you ask for the journals. You can bring what ever to final, and usually lets extensions
I read all the assigned readings (there are A LOT), and I did well, but I know people who did well without. This course is not anywhere near my major, but I want to change my degree to only this course and discuss stuff with Glasberg forever. If you care, this course has a good chance of making you a better person. Do it. 100% would recommend.
Did not enjoy this class at all. Rambled off about nothing without actually talking about material. Tried too hard to be liked and his overall outline for the class structure was very scrambled and not clear. Many kids didn't come to class due to his jumbled class structure, which isn't fair to students.
Want a class thats interesting AND easy?! This is the class! Don't listen to any of the previous reviews because his class changed. THIS COURSE WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE! He lets you do whatever and hand it in whenever! If you don't like writing then dance! rap! draw! His classes are so much fun we move our tables and discuss real issues! Ive taken 3.
The best professor in the entire University
Professor Glasberg is very inspirtational. His lectures are sometimes a little dry but is still interesting. Easy grader but be prepared to read a lot!
BEST PROFESSOR I HAVE EVER HAD -- I MEAN IT. Take a class with him and you won't regret it! His classes changed my life and I would take another one in a heartbeat. I absolutely love Dr. Glasberg and have so much respect for him. What a great, intelligent man. Can't say enough good things about him. :)
Do yourself a favour and take this class. Best course and best prof at the U of C.
Best class I've ever taken & I almost dropped it before it began, so glad I didnt. Pretty much everyone who I know raves about him too. It teaches you valuable info about life in general and the lectures are interesting & very interactive, provided you're paying attention. The man is a genius. Best prof at the University.
Glasberg still inspires me to this day! His wisdom helped change my life and I still remember when he dressed up as the devil to lecture! What an inspiration!
Some people do not enjoy classes with this professor however I advise you to not listen to them. Glasberg offers a different teaching style that makes you think outside the box and really reflect upon your own experiences. The workload is minimal, there is a lot of reading however it is not 100% necessary. If you do read makes the lectures better.
He is an AMAZING prof. I took his classes 2 years ago and miss them so much. Sometimes I feel like sneaking into one of his lectures even though I've already graduated lol. As the students below have also mentioned, he is a genius!! Take our advice and enroll in this class. You will thank us later. :)
Best teacher I have ever had. He is inspiring, educational, and super funny. I have never had such an easy class. You literally show up and pass. 10/10 definitely recommend.
This course has been the best one I've taken in my entire degree. It's all about the prof, he's passionate about the topics and engages the students every class. He's incredibly smart, yet values all comments made in class. This course has changed my life - I strongly recommend it!
Give this guy a Noble Peace Prize!
I am delighted to read Dr. Glasberg is still impacting students with his sometimes dazzling, often disquieting, and always thought-provoking lectures that challenge people to rethink their beliefs. I took GNST 300 & 500 from him in '94, and 23 years later, he is still the best instructor I ever had. You get what you put into his class. BEST EVER!
He's a great teacher, very inspirational and cares about your opinions and stories. The class consists of 4 projects that you choose how you want to do and what each of them weigh. The two exams are essays but its not bad, mostly a personal response but you have to read. He loves creativity and participation (counts for 10% through tutorials).
He is a great individual and tries to get everyone participating in conversations in his lectures. Grading criteria is projects you make yourself and then a final exam.
5th class with Glasberg and only one of them required. Need I say more?
If you're looking for an easy class in terms of course load, this is it. It's meant to challenge your ideas about life and your existence rather than have you memorize crap. amazing course, deeper thinking required, just show up with an open mind to tutorials and you'll enjoy it. Need to be self driven bc there are no deadlines, easy going prof
Best course I've ever taken and best prof I've ever had. Not only is the course eye-opening and different from any other 'memorization' course, but Dr. Glasberg makes it even better through the lectures and the tutorials. He is inspirational, hilarious and genuinely cares about his students. I strongly recommend this course!!
Best course I have ever taken. Not only did I feel like gained an astounding amount of knowledge, I also gained a sense of my self. I would strongly recommend this prof!
Ron is great. I had really mixed feelings about this course at the beginning cause theres no structure and its a tribal classroom instead, but by the end I really liked it. Essentially the course is group therapy and complaining about the patriarchy while attaching it to ancient texts. Ron made this class amazing, take it with him!
This man is a gem, truly. He is so brilliant and interesting to listen to, his lectures are quite exciting and he teaches you a lot about your existence and life in general. His grading is fair. Wish I could've taken more than 2 courses with him. You NEED to take his class at least once before you graduate!!
Glasberg is funny and entertaining in lecture. It's easy to get As on every assignment as long as you make your thoughts seem "profound". He even admits his colleagues don't like him because they think he gives too many As. This class is a lot of fun if you get involved in the discussions.
Professor Glasberg is immensly educated and knowledgeable about his subject. There's no reason to not take this professor. This was best class that I took in my entire degree.
You won't find another prof who is so passionate about what they teach. Very inspirational. GPA Booster. Took me 10 mins to do a summary, didn't do entire reading, only first few lines. If I screwed up, just emailed him another copy to re-do. A's galore. You'd think the course would be boring but his sheer personality makes it so much better
Professor Glasberg is the type of teacher where you can tell he cares for the students in his class. He wants all his students to be able to pass his class and therefore allows you to redo papers and tests. overall he is a great teacher, very inspirational and his lectures are one of the best to sit through. I promise you will never be bored.
Despite the course content being relatively dry, Glasberg is very eccentric and presents the material enthusiastically while eliciting great class discussion. The grading in this class is unbelievably simple as all you need to do is get participation and write one page summaries to score well. Final is also super easy.
You will never find a better prof anywhere. I took 2 courses with him and I wish I could take a class with him over and over again. I hated school until I met this man. Take a class with him- you will not regret it.
I found this class wasn't a lot of work, but was still interesting and I loved taking Glasberg's class. He tells it like it is, which can be very entertaining. He really cares about his students. He took the time to get to know me when I asked him for a recommendation letter so it would stand out. Don't need to do the readings though.
Glasberg was awesome! Great prof, really considers his students and really cares about course content. Speaks with passion and is very entertaining. I keep recommending him to my friends and am planning on taking him again! Not sure what I was expecting from this course but was pleasantly surprised.
Ronald Glasberg Is the best prof i've literally ever had. He's funny, life changing (exaggerated but also literally) and provides the best lectures i've ever attended. He is a bit different than other profs, but don't let that scare you, because the way he teaches grows on you. He likes participation but it's nothing scary, just read the material.
I really enjoyed CMCL 201, he was a great prof who truly cares about his students. Entertaining lectures that really make you question society and the world you live in. I would recommend this class to anyone I know, some texts were confusing but he was always willing to explain them in more detail!
Professor Glasberg was amazing. He truly taught like no other prof. He was inspiring and made you re-evaluate the world that we live in. He truly cared about his students and made class so enjoyable. Two written assignments and one open book final, I would recommend this class to everybody.
Glasberg is truly the best professor I have ever had. He has given me a whole new outlook on school and life. One of the greatest humans I have met. You rock RG!
My personal favourite professor at the University of Calgary. Dr. Glasberg was always engaged during lecture and truly cares about the wellbeing of his students. Providing open ended projects makes it easy to engage with dense philosophical material. Overall a fantastic experience I would recommend this prof to everyone.
I was excited about this class with his raving reviews. However, I did not personally enjoy this class at all. There are three assignments you are graded on and the grading criteria isnt very clear. Also the final group project is a bummer if you get bad group members.
Ron is by far the best teacher I've had in my university career. He's compassionate, understanding, and kind. He understands different types of learning styles and is accommodating to your needs. Most importantly, he cares more about your well- being and his classes will change your life! Take them!
Take a class with him, you wont regret it! Hes the best professor Ive had in years because he doesnt expect you to parrot ideas back to him in your essays etc. The class had three assignments and a participation brief. If you pay attention in class and actually do the readings, expectations for all three assignments will be very clear.
Literally the sweetest and funniest prof I've ever had. Although his classes can be confusing at times, he's super passionate and really tries to make class fun.
My first time rating a professor in 4 years at UofC just shows you how special Ron is. A true gem of a professor and an even better person. Intelligent, wise, kind, understanding, exemplifies how learning should be. You will not only come out of his class as a better student but as a better human being. I am so grateful I got to learn from him :)
The best professor I've ever had, his marking was really fair and he always helped with any difficulties. He was very inspirational and his lectures were insightful and helped me gain a new perspective. would definitely take a class with him again!
Best proff I ever had. Amazing lecutres, you can tell he is very passionate about what he teaches, and is very knowledgable. He encourages out of the box and creative thinking with his assignments, which are always very fair and engaging.
Glasberg is really chill and doesn't assign projects or grade like a traditional uni prof. He wants to you engage with the material and reflect on major issues in the world. You can be super creative with your assignments and he's sure to give you an A! I wish I could take more classes with him but thankful I got the chance to take this one
Dr. Glasberg was the single best professor I had at the University of Calgary. Genuinely passionate, intelligent, and insightful commentary along with a drive to make students produce projects that they were interested in. I felt free to open up in my assignments and be transparent on issues without being judged. If you can take his class!
I loved him excellent prof made class fun a little crazy, but he makes you think and want to understand what he's saying. excited to have him again.
He is hands down one of the best most passionate professors Ive ever had, would 100% take again! I highly recommend him and his classes, his insight is amazing and his enthusiasm in class makes it fun and easy to learn!!
He is the best teacher I have had. The lectures felt more like a conversation where you could actually express your thoughts. He is very passionate about what he is teaching and it really shows. Will for sure try to get him as a professor again! Attending class was something I always looked forward to. He gained so much respect from all of us.
This prof is the sweetest man ever. So caring about his students and loves the material he teaches. Grade was made up of 3 assignments, marked pretty easy. Readings can be a bit confusing.
4th time taking Glasberg. He's a cult classic. The man goes on nonsensical rants but it's an easy A course and you can skip almost ALL classes. This class was a bit harder because of the TAs who marked MUCH harder. But he allowed re-dos and would mark those himself. So if you got a B the first time, just fix it up for 5 mins and you'll get that A+.
I thoroughly enjoyed this class! I took this class because it was required for my degree but I am pleasantly surprised by what I got out of the class. Prof. Glasberg is highly philosophical and I love that he explains the class concepts in a way that questions our current reality. Hes incredibly considerate, and the TAs this semester were amazing!
I've taken Glasberg several times throughout my undergrad. He's supported me + allowed me to write so many stories/novels to unleash my creativity. Gives redos + extensive feedback + answers all questions and clarifies any confusion. Going to class is truly rewarding and it was truly an honour to have him a part of my journey. Take him if you can!!
Professor Glasberg has a style of teaching that provided me with an amazing semester. Our course was abstract in nature, but his lectures were thoughtful and provoked student engagement. Don't take a class by him if you aren't ready to think, but if you have an open mind you'll have a great time. Assignments were interesting & fun.
Dr. Glasberg is a great lecturer and is obviously really interested with the content he teaches. Although his lectures can go off on tangents, his incorporation of students in discussions keeps things interesting. The course content is easy to digest and I found them to be informative of some topics brushed aside. 3 papers total kept it simple!
I thoroughly enjoyed having Dr. Glasberg as a professor and I'm sad that I can't take the course he's teaching next semester! He's very fair in marking and allowing people to improve their marks. I attended every lecture and felt they were both fascinating and valuable to my learning and my growth as a person. You're doing great, Dr. Glasberg!
It was a privilege to take this class w/ Ron. The class follows a non-linear structure & requires you to think critically & question your own views, which can be hard at times but absolutely necessary. Ron encouraged class participation and was very open to explaining things in multiple ways/accepting a wide range of views from students
Absolutely my fav prof Ive had in uni so far. Dr. Glasberg is an understanding and inspiring prof. He made me want to work super hard and not procrastinate or give half-ass efforts. The course material is super interesting and with Glasberg its fun to learn. If youre debating taking his classes seriously do it I promise you wont regret it!!
He changed my life...
Can't say that I've taken many classes where the professor made me want to take a 1.5-hour transit ride to be at school by 9am in the blistering cold just to sit into their lecture even when that was my only class of the day, but Ron, Ron is that prof. He's Hilarious and made learning about modernity a joy. It was an honour to be taught by Dr. G.
Amazing prof
Glasberg is passionate, cares about his students, and genuinely just wants to inspire. His lectures are done with passion/excitement. He doesn't expect you to just regurgitate his opinion; as long as you can back up your claims he will mark you well, whether or not your thesis reflects his personal opinion. I have a lot of respect for him!
I took COMS 401.70 (Paranormal Communication), he is a truly amazing professor and changed how I perceived the world. I am glad I took this class as it was extremely enjoyable! He was super understanding of students and accommodated students with the pandemic wonderfully. I will never forget how kind Glasberg is. I would 100% recommend this course.
Ron is amazing, highly recommend taking a class with him. His lectures are super interesting and filled with passion. He is really focused on his students and the act of learning, not just memorization and repetition of information. He does have one very large group project though (your entire lab group) which makes this class a bit difficult.
Ron was a super entertaining lecturer and made the topics fun and poignant to our lives; great guy! 2 papers, and 1 group project (the group project was completed within our tutorial so attendance/participation was important) Super easy grade and the class discussions were really interesting. Definitely take if you can write and are philosophical.
If you're looking for a professor that gives an entertaining lecture, Dr. Glasberg has got you covered. He often goes above and beyond with his passion (and occasional German singing) but it makes the class very memorable. His assigments and readings are a bit overwhelming but not overly difficult, and he values creativity highly.
If you want a hilarious professor who genuinely cares about his students, look no further. His classes have changed my perspective on the world. Class discussion (either participating or actively listening) is a must. Creativity is much appreciated with the assignments. 10/10 guy, you won't regret taking any of his classes!
Dr. Glasberg is an amazing professor. His lectures are very unique and engaging and he does his best to involve students in class discussions. His classes are definitely not mandatory to attend and the course assignments are very easy. Would absolutely recommend taking this course!
Most lovely professor at the school. Cares about his students and actually wants to make a difference. All you need to do is go to class with an open mind and allow yourself to be creative, a skill so often beat down by other courses. Assignments are easy so long as you show genuine reflection. A lil eccentric, but that makes him all the more fun!
My favourite professor of all time. This was my third class I've taken with him, and it won't be my last. He is the most caring and understanding prof you will ever meet. Actually wants you to succeed and will help you do so. I cannot recommend him enough. Graded on two papers, a group project, and small assignment.
Glasberg is pretty much the best professor you could ask for. He understands the struggles and woes of being a student and is super lenient. If you just want to talk to him he'll talk to you for a long time- doesn't matter the subject. He is a very entertaining, if not a bit redundant, lecturer. I have never met a prof who cares more than Glasberg.
Ron's lectures are incredible and truly have changed my way of thinking and approaching daily life. Textbook is pretty bland but he somehow interprets it in a way that makes it interesting. Group project of 30 people was a challenge but all other assignments were all easy A's. So kind outside of class. He has been my favourite prof so far!
I admire the way he wish to break away from the tradtional sense of learning however there is so much reading (Although you never really have to more the what you need for papers and such). To best describe his lectures is slam poetry with lot of movement and talking which is ather engaging.
The best prof I have ever had in my whole educational career!
Extremely boring but extremely easy
This was my favourite class this semester. Ronald is an entertaining guy and the material discussed in the class is like no other. The textbook doesn't really match the material as he uses a history textbook but you can get by with not reading it. Beware of the final project that is done with the ENTIRE lab of +30 people though, it is dysfunctional
Amazing, Amazing, Amazing! I hope I can take more classes with him!
Ron is such a sweet man and you can tell he wants his students to succeed. However, if you are looking for an organized, clear, and concise class this is not the one for you. Although the paranormal content which was learned was quite interesting, he barely used his lecture slides, and left the talking to most of the class through presentations.
Dr Glasberg has to be one of my favorite professors. He engages the class and asks critical questions that others are afraid to ask. I've taken 3 CMCL courses with him and truly wish he had more courses I could take.
Didn't expect to like this class and the professor so much, but his lectures are really thought-provoking and engaging. Attendance is mandatory to understand the course material because he talks about the correlation between the texts and modernity; you won't be able to get much from just reading the textbook.
Dr. Glasberg is a very out of the box professor, but sometimes I can barely stand his lectures. I feel like banging my head against the table! He spends most of the class blabbering on about his random existential crisis and tries to open up the class and get their views on the issues. We don't focus enough on actual content, I'm loosing my mind
Professor Glasberg's lectures are incredibly captivating. While the textbook doesn't fully align with the material, his passion and unique perspective make the class fascinating. The large group project can be challenging, but with tools like unstuck ai, it's manageable. An overall rewarding experience.
I took two of his classes and learned a lot from both. Entertaining lectures meant to make you think. Glasberg can seem intimidating but if you don't understand something or you made a mistake or missed a due date, just talk to him. He is very understanding and wants you to succeed. He will give you a good grade as long as you are trying.
I absolutely adore Glasberg. He genuinely cares about his students and wants to teach them in a way they can learn and benefit from. There are not many assignments, they are mostly written with a group assignment as well; he is not a strict marker. His lectures are very entertaining, and fun to attend. Wish more profs put in the effort he does.
Really interesting lectures that made you think outside the box
Very inspirational and thinks outside the box, he really seems to care about your education and its quality. Probes your ideas on real world issues and is overall supper interesting. He does go off topic a lot but for me it shows he's passionate about what he teaches, can be a downside because you don't get the full material during lecture.
Dr. Glasberg was a phenomenal professor. Despite the often boring course contents, his lectures were fun and engaging. He seemed to truly care about the success of his students and our ability to understand what he was teaching. I would absolutely take another class with Dr. Glasberg he is a highlight of the entire University.
He is a great professor who cares for his students. I did not attend many classes due to work, but he usually emails his PowerPoint to the class. I would take another course with him, as he asks deep questions and makes his lectures interesting. I struggled with my papers, as I am more facts-based. However, he prefers more philological stuff.
Very good prog, passionate about what he does
Glasberg is the best prof ever. He should be teaching at Harvard. So inspirational and encourages you to crtically think. his class is an experience not a lecture. take any class you can with him.
Dr. Glasberg has opened up so many minds to the possibility of change. If you can take him I really recommend him, I am a person that usually sits at the back of the class and listens but he really brings out participation in you and especially in labs don't be afraid to express your input.
Dr. Glasberg is a super passionate prof who cares about every student and their opinion. He will get you out of your shell to talk and express your own opinions as he creates a safe space. He is super understanding and marks decently easy. As long as you go to tutorials and lectures and participate sometimes youll do good.
The absolute GOAT. The best prof I've had in my undergrad hands down. Such interesting lectures. Sometimes TA's don't mark right but if you explain yourself and ask for him to mark it he'll understand ur vision. Best prof ever he was MADE to be a professor. I've never thought more than I have in other classes.
