very annoying habits and boring, puts me to sleep
This guy is nuts, had several raging outbursts when a stupid question was asked, pretty tough style with such easy material
Don't take this guy. He is probably the hardest Accounting teacher in the department. Very angry individual. He goes through material very quickly and if you ask a question most times he will get angry at you.
BORING, ANNOYING, made me sleepy
Gives people D's when they get 69.8%
in simply a single word.....TOOLMAN
VERY HARD PROFESSOR! YOU WILL NOT PASS THIS CLASS WITH HIM AS YOUR PROFESSOR! DO NOT TAKE ANY OF HIS CLASSES! He also will not help you at all to get the grade you want. Does not teach, and expects you to teach yourself for each and every test. Material seems to be easy, but he makes it hard.
if you expect to get over a C in this class you're fooling yourself. by far the hardest teacher you can take for accounting.
Ridiculously hard. He is very boring. It's very hard to pay attention.
Hard classes but he is a good teacher. He just makes you learn, no free grades here.
Yes you will have to work, but no more than in any other class. And he does seem strange when you ask a question but I think he is relativley easy. I have taken him for 2 courses and have gotten good grades in each.

WHAT CAN I SAY, BEST TEACHER AT ROBERT MORRIS. I ABSOLUTELY LOVED THE WAY HIS ARMS SWAYED TO AND FRO AS HE POINTED TO EMPHASIZE MATERIAL. HONESTLY, ID TAKE ANY ACCOUNTING CLASS HE TEACHES. THE WAY HE RELATED INFO TO THE PIRATES AND U.S. AIR WAS INTERESTING. TO SUM THINGS UP, HE IS THE BEST GUY EVER
RONALD RUBENFIELD WAS A MANAGERAIL MASTERMIND,Honestly i really thought he was a good teacher, he had some questions but it was a class where you worked youd get your grade, he also had many interesting analogies to go along with the course
Tool-o-rific
HORRIBLE! He doesn't teach, he expects the students to come to class knowing everything about that days lecture. He will not help you outside of class and really doesn't care about the students or what grade you get.
Cost of tuition...$7000 Cost of parking pass...$150 Cost of hearing about how this guy could be rich if he had only invested in Microsoft (for the 10,000 time)....worthless
No Comments
Does he get off on making everything hard as possible? Seems very tempermental, not helpful.Get another teacher
such a weird guy and the class is really hard...if you can take another teacher i suggest doing so
trust me when I say, avoid this guy at all costs.
Unless you're able to pick things up independently, don't take him. You're better off tuning him out and following example problems in the book. I did that in both classes and got A's in both. If you listen to him, you'll get bored with the stories and drift off. The tests are rough. If you take him, try a tutor or learning on your own.
Do Not Take! He can't teavh and expects students to know the material already. A bit tempermental, too. Expect a low grade if your not good at accounting. So...try to avoid him, een if it means messing your whole schedule up!
Hard as hell, take someone else.
WORST ... AVOID AT ALL COSTS!
This guy is not only very strange but makes his tests a guessing game of what might be on them. Every test has two problems but he will give you thirty to study and one has to guess which 2 out of 30 will be on it.
Get used to teaching yourself b/c this dude sucks. He looks at the floor and mumbles junk about the draft and the steelers the ENTIRE TIME! His lectures were not worth the hassle at all, but BEWARE: I did all my homework, got B's on every single test and he gave me a C. He explained it with "class participation" so DON'T SLEEP! TAKE SOMEONE ELSE!
lectures consist of problems. study the problems and you will do fine on the tests! if you have problems, go to office hours, he is very helpful.
Sucks A--!! F---'n prick!! Unless you already know everything about acct., do NOT take him!! He does problems on the board so fast and does not take the time to explain how he gets the answers, and when he writes on the board, he writes all over the place! Very hard to follow. His tests are extremely hard and practically all MC! DO NOT TAKE HIM!
Rubenfield is a good guy. You will learn a lot and if you get on his good side by just being nice and talk to him, he will ease up. He is 300x Better than the other professor who "teaches."
relatively easy professor, all you need to do is the assignments and you should be fine.
worst professor i've ever had
Ex: He couldn't be in class one day but said he'd have a sub and all students present would receive extra credit. Sub was supposed to show up at 9, didn't and we all left, he showed up at 9:30 and the next day Rubenfield pointed his finger in all of our faces and said he felt "violated". He talks to himself and has a lot of hangups.
The worste. For example a test question of define an asset was MC and had the 2 same exact answers except with "is" or "are" in the middle. I studied my butt off but didnt do well on the final cause it was impossible and he gave me a D in the class...thats with a high C before it.
the worst! soooooooo hard mumbles all the time refuses to help impossible tests I asked him what I should do to help me do better and he said "come to class and take notes" meanwhile i never missed a day! the most miserable professor and class ever you have to teach yourself everything
teach yourself, u can try to take his notes but with as fast as he goes its real tough to comprehend and understand what is going on. also i hope you can figured out abbrevations cuz thats all he uses in class ull spend more time figurning out what is on the board then u will taking notes STAY AWAY!!
worst teacher i have ever had. never wrote the full problem on the board because he didn't want to run out of room. also wouldnt tell you what page we were on or what problem we were doing. got a d only because i went to his office hours, which he appreciates
The best!!
I graduated in 04, took the class in 02, and I thought the class was relatively easy compared to some of my higher level classes but Rubenfield is a nutcase. He would talk about his buddy who became a serial killer, and why there is coke instead of pepsi in the vending machine. He seems very unstable, I wouldnt advise taking his class. NUTCASE!
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be taught by a monkey? If you answered yes well then rubenfield is the professor for you...he'll scratch his head like a monkey and cover his mouth with his fist in the middle of a lecture for some unexplained reason. He is an A++ monkey professor but an F-- human professor...SPEAK UP RUBENFIELD!!!
Where do I begin... he mumbles, is on crack, scratches his head like a monkey, and talks to himself. I would advise to seek a different professor.
terrible
he's an okay guy. tells you what is going to be on the test, the multiple choice questions are tricky though in the wording. he tells stories but usually tries to relate them to cost accounting in some way. pay attention, go to class and study for the test following his study guide he gives you and you'll be fine. really isn't that bad at all.
Very strange individual. His manurisms are a hoot! Does not really teach the material, instead gives you the answers to the HW assignments. If you read the book, do the HW, and follow the study guides for each test, then you should do ok in the class, but it would be better to get another prof!
Good teacher, overly kind with curve.
Rubenfield is not as bad as everyone says he is. He tells you what is going to be on the tests and curves them. All you have to do is go to class and read the book and you will do fine.
4 tests and a final, problems, multiple choice and some short answer. Does not teach theory at all. Starts a chapter by just doing homework problem. Ur on ur own with theory. Problems u'll have to grasp by studying all his examples. Use book's website to study cause its helpful. He curves everything. U need to work on ur own to pass, got a B
He relates accounting to real life situations and real businesses. Students have rated him hard but I disagree. His exams are like the homework problems.
terrible. mumbles and you can't hear what he's saying. although once you do hear what he's saying he's talking about his brother and other non-accounting related things. exam questions are tough.
He mumbles and gets off topic a lot. Curves every test! If you got a C, usually turned into an A. Just go to class, and laugh at his dry humor accounting jokes.
I had Rubenfield for both Cost I and Cost II. I'll admit he does have some wierd tendencies about him but he's a good professor. If you know how to read and do math this class shouldn't be hard; everyone else is either stupid or lazy. I finished with over 100% in both courses.
Rubenfield's cost II class is not hard it's just mind boggling. He demeans the university and talks about the most random topics. If we spent class time learning - a lot more material could be covered. Three tests- and quizzes for extra credit. Makes it hard to do bad in his class but only covers problems in class and puts a lot of concepts on test
He likes to babble about random things. Highly suggest going to class and really paying attention. You have to work for an A.
I really would like to know why people don't like this professor without him I wouldn't of passed no lie try Smigla in the 90s he would made this class barrable for all to pass the class.
He is the reason I took Cost II. I am not the best student, but I have learned a lot from him. He gives quizzes for extra credit and seems to enjoy what he is doing. I think the people that down grade him need to grow up. He simplifies things and gives real world examples when teaching.
He is a pretty good Accounting teacher. I had him for managerial accounting and did pretty well. I'm horrible at accounting but he curves all of his tests, gives out a butt load of extra credit,& doesnt collect homework. The extra credit saved my life, but you have to know at least some accounting to get the extra credit. Hes kind, a little cooky
He is awful! Expect to teach yourself outside of class, and get yelled at every week.
AVIOD HIM IF YOU CAN! Only about 10 minutes of his lecture has anything to do with the subject. He goes on rants about his feeling all class. When he does go over material it isn't clear at all. You must attend tutoring or self teach or you will fail. Majoritiy of the time he isn't even right. If you learn the material prior, you'll catch it.
Spends a majority of the class talking about non-class related information. He jumps all over the place and does not clearly teach. He is willing to help however, a very nice person, but gets distracted easily. The only grades for the class were the tests taken which were terrible, does not even take off the lowest grade to average.
Where to start. Be prepared to teach yourself most of the content. I found his teaching style rushed and very unclear. He goes over problems quick with very little, if any, explanation, almost like he thinks you already know the info before ever starting the class. Skips chapters then comes back to them. Leaves many students shaking their heads.
Tough teacher, but it's an upper level accounting course, it should be challenging. As long as you study and do the quizzes, you should be fine. It is a challenging class, but he gives you plenty of opportunities to do well. Nice guy.
Professor Rubenfield is my favorite teacher I've had at rmu. An honest review is that he will expect you to know the theory which will require you to read and work for your grade. I did very poorly on the first exam, but he encouraged me to keep going and it paid off. I did much better on the second test. Work hard, learn and it will pay off.
I think that his rating is way too low for how great of a teacher he is! He truly cares about his students and their grades. Offers extra points in form of in class quizzes, will go over many problems in class (which are on the quizzes). If you somehow miss a test he WILL allow you to take a make up even without letting him know! He TRULY cares!!!!
I had Professor R for Managerial Accounting this past semester and he was really great in class. He often went on tangents about current topics but he would always find his way back to Accounting. He prefers to show you how to do the problems on the board rather than reading the textbook in class. He is a gracious grader and isn't out to get us!
Ridiculous professor, coming from someone who actually doesn't mind accounting. Class was not helpful at all. I should have just paid that course's tuition to my textbook because he didn't do anything. The only mild perk of this class is the chapter quizzes he gives, between 5 and 8 points usually, that are graded for bonus points. Tests are brutal
I absolutely loved this class. He is always funny and always willing to help.
You will have to teach all of the course material yourself. Some people say they love his teaching and some say they hate it. There is no in between. If you don't do the homework(which he doesn't collect) you will probably fail. By far my hardest class yet. The one good thing is that he curves his tests a lot which really helps.
He talked about accounting maybe 25 percent of semester The rest was bottomless nonsense He is a reasonable teacher and grader If you have a question he will take time to answer it Went over the homework about half of the time Had to teach myself the lecture If you put forth effort, you will pass He was honest and funny I would take him again.
A typical class is composed of him starting class five minutes early and gets angry when students walk in moments later from when he begins his early lecture. Complains students do not like him, but he does not realize students do not like him because of his class style, as an Accounting major, I would seriously consider taking another Prof instead
Talks too much about Apple & Amazon. Also talks too much about the new event center being built, so it felt like he was never talking about accounting. This is my first class I've withdrew from ever. I just wasn't a fan of him, and I would advise you to avoid him if possible.
You will either love his style of teaching or hate it, if you do not buy the book you will fail. If you come to class, pay attention, put in the effort outside of class to do the homework and really study the review at the end of the chapters, you will earn an A on every test. The tests are not hard if you prepare and he reviews the day before.
Very awful professor. Does not teach anything in class. All learning is done through book outside of class. No homework, so only test grades. Gives out random quizzes that "Only bring up your grade" but you have no way to study for it. The tests are exceptionally tough and he don't care. Very softspoken and gets off track easily. DO NOT Take
Boy was this class stressful. Tests and quizzes have little to no transparency with the homework. Great guy and very knowledgable but he gets off-track very easily and is sometimes hard to understand. I had to spend way too much of my time practicing the chapters ON MY OWN which forced me to make special arrangements with my job. Not happy one bit.
Dr. Rubenfield is very knowledgeable in accounting. However, he is not the best teacher. His class is lecture heavy. The only thing that gets graded are the multiple choice exams and open ended quizzes (both are hard). If your late, its a wrap. He is very hard to approach and impatient. ONLY take this course if you can learn just from a textbook.
I would never take him again because of how unorganized and unclear his teaching is. His grading scale is however he wants it and does not post grades on blackboard. He does not teach in class and only talks about random things, but gets mad if you ask a question. Regret taking him.
Terrible professor, Acts like he does so much for the students meanwhile you're lucky if he mentions one vocab word in an entire class. Lectures are almost impossible to understand, grading is done very rarely and the professor uses almost no form of online connectivity like Blackboard.
Talks about nothing related to class for at least twenty minutes and the review of homework and assignments are too hard to follow or retain anything. He also does not seem like he actually wants to teach anything and would much rather talk about anything but accounting
Doesn't post any grades on time. He blames the students for not understanding anything and doesn't teach. He goes through problems quickly, assuming you already know everything. He would spend 20 minutes telling the class how we should focus on his work to and buy the book or we'd fail and should fail. The tests are difficult. You MUST learn alone.
I took Prof Rubenfield for managerial accounting. I am an accounting major so I took this class more seriously than most. I sat in the front, read the textbook (c'mon you paid 200 bucks for this book just read the chapters), and studied for the tests and did fine. All quizzes were for bonus points and I studied for those, too. He's super nice.
Literally worst prof Ive had. Goes on crazy rampages over nothing and will literally just flip out for a whole class and make u feel like crap. Oh and dont think abt emailing him and getting a clear response! I could go on, luckily I passed but accounting is hard for me to begin w so having him made passing 1000x harder. Avoid at all costs!!
-This man is insane but I took him because the other prof is sexist. -He will go off on random tangents and he thinks his is a genius in a world full of idiots. -Tests are multiple choice and he curves grades -Paying attention in class is not even an option because he cant even pay attention -Youtube videos are how I managed to survive
Professor honestly doesn't even teach. I don't know how he is still employed by the university. I have all As in my other classes and this is going to be the first class I've ever gotten a C or lower in. All he does is go over homework. You're on your own for the rest.
Worst professor I've had throughout college. Be ready to teach yourself everything. Rants and Rambles.
Mr. Rubenfield is the type of professor where you get out of him what you put in. He is a fair man. If you pay attention in class, participate, and study during your free time, you will do well. His tangents are relevant to the material, and hilarious. I recommend taking his classes with a smaller class size
Great professor! Ignore the bad reviews.
This professor spends the whole class talking about life experiences and things that have nothing to do with accounting. He will talk about the chapter for 5-10 minutes and then tell another life experience. Says don't ask him questions that he doesn't know. Overall if im being honest, the worst teacher ive ever had by far.
Terrible, absolutely terrible. Worst teacher I've ever had. We can't get through one class without talking about 10 life experiences he has gone through and how pointless paying for school is. Makes accounting unbearable and I've passed my first accounting class with an A. GET HIM OUT OF THERE!!!!! ASAP! We need to sign petitions or something.
Cost 1 Accounting: If you can look past his numerous anecdotes, pay attention to the problems he goes over in class, and skim the book, you are guaranteed an A. He is very nice and reasonable. He does jump around the textbook, but it all makes sense. A lot of quizzes all for extra credit (won't hurt your grade if you get 0 points)
Professor Rubenfield is one of the fairest professors. What you put into the class is what you get out. The people who complain about him simply do not want to put in the work and are just looking for someone to blame for their bad grade. Do the homework and his lectures will make a lot of sense. The work you put in will be rewarded.
Ronald hates this website, and I could see why. Professor Rubenfield is a tough teacher but gives students the opportunity to succeed. his exams are curved heavy and gives extra credit quizzes to help improve bad test grades. nice guy once you get to know him.
Professor Rubenfield has horrible reviews on this website that are egregiously incorrect to how the class is. Lectures are based on homework problems that you will understand if you pay attention to. Gives plenty of bonus opportunity throughout the course and is one of the funniest professors at the university. Tests are very difficult but curved.
Ignore all the negative ratings on here. He is an amazing professor who truly cares. The tests are difficult but you will do fine if you pay attention to the problems done in class and do the connect assignments. Quizzes are extra credit which really helps so take them seriously. He is willing to help you understand.
If you have options, do NOT take Rubenfield. Lectures are based off of random things. he does not explain anything to the class and expects us to read his mind. tests are very difficult, and they are curved. He gives extra credit quizzes after tests for 6 points. Please Do Not take him!!!
I can understand why not a lot of people like this professor but most of the hate isn't really deserved. Most people who say this class is hard didn't do any of the homework. As long as you are reading the book and doing the homework you are assigned the class isn't too hard.
WHAT........
do not take this class if you can avoid it. he does not teach anything, just switches the topic every 10 seconds about nonsense. he "goes over" homework by re-writing problems on the board off of a piece of paper - and does not explain what he's doing at all. he apparently does give extra credit, but you will not learn a single thing!
Can barely speak at this point, hard to hear in the front row. Brought up his rate my Prof score on the first day and complained about it, but all the bad reviews are true. Awful teacher, rambles forever, doesn't explain anything well and abbreviates everything he writes when we first start to learn it like we should already know it. 0/10 dont take
Professor Rubenfield's class is a mixed bag - tough but rewarding. Lectures can be scattered, but his curve and extra credit quizzes make up for it. Unstuck study was a lifesaver for test prep.
Nice guy, pretty funny, but is an awful teacher. Rushes through material so he can ramble on about worthless life experiences or just talk to students. He is super hard to follow in class so you have to only learn from the book, lectures wont teach you anything. Avoid at all costs unless you want to be super stressed out by what should be a easy A.
I have nothing to say. Fire this man.
He's absolutely awful does not teach. Just rants and then expects you to know the material.
True embarrassment for RMU. He prefers to just stand at the front of the class and talk about whatever he wants and write problems. No grades on Blackboard at all. He has implied that the only reason he continues to work (and will not retire this year as he intended) is because he does not have the money in his retirement account to do so. Beware
Ron is an all-around decent professor once you get to know him. His test is very test-heavy, but the curves are very generous. He is willing to help you as long as you ask for it and are willing to make an effort to succeed.
Oh Sir RubenGOAT, This silly website will never give RubenGOAT a break. So many poor reviews because no one took the time to really feel this goat out. He loves what he does and wants the best for his kids. His lectures about random stuff and his laugh is what I will miss most. He was my super hero. As an athlete, I love you RUBENGOAT!
Notice how every person who rated Rubenfield a 1 star has a C or below in the class or how everyone who gave him 5 stars has a A? Self-explanatory. People write these reviews to boil his blood and hear about it in class. You get what you put in. This is not a hard class. Just selfish, sad, broke college students looking to point fingers. RUBENGOAT!
Professor Rubenfield is an okay professor. Not bad but certainly not astounding. Class isn't the easiest but as long as you pay attention and study just a bit you'll be fine. Does tend to ramble rather than lecture much of the time. Very fair with make-up exams.
He does not teach. It's as simple as that. Never once did he teach a concept or go over a lesson. The most you will get is him going over homework problems. If you have the time, energy, and patience to teach yourself the course then definitely take him.
Professor Rubenfield is an awesome teacher that wants you to succeed if your willing to put the time in. Tests are hard but he goes over good review problems and gives extra credit. If your willing to put in a little bit of extra work definitely take him.
talks about himself the entire course. saw him after every quiz/exam and dismissed improvement and said he's disappointed. inappropriate comments and actions outside of class. YOU'LL DO ALL YOUR WORK OUTSIDE OF CLASS HE WILL TEACH YOU NOTHING! attend class for brownie points. will say "work your butt off" an uncomfortable number of times.
You will have to teach yourself everything, which defeats the purpose of having a professor. He doesn't fully listen to concerns and will cut you off with an “excuse me” before you're even done talking. Generous with exam curves because everyone gets 70s and below. Extra credit quizzes are gi
