tells u extactly whats gonna be on the test
HE DOES TELL YOU ALMOST EXACTLY WHATS ON THE TEST, HIS MIDTERMS ARE LIKE BOOKS *VERY* THICK! BUT HE IS PRETTY EASY ON HIS MARKING. HE WEIGHTS GROUP PROJECT ALITTLE UNFAIR SO YOU BETTER MAKE SURE YOU GET THE HIGHEST MARK FROM YOUR GROUP. OVERALL EASY B
He is vrey clear, and tell you what is going to be on the exam. Study hard on his notes and you will get well on theory part. Read textbook and you will do well on multip-choice, too. Very nice instrouctor!!Good!
boring class, very strict
His test is super hard!
He's nice, humor and funny. Always tries to make the class concentrate with his jokes. 2 Midterms which are easy (if you study hard on his notes first and then the text). A little picky on the group project.
he is a super nice teacher. His midterms and final are easy as long as you study hare for his notes and remember them then you will get a goof grade. He is also generous for the group project, if you put effor on it.
He is a veru good teacher. His midterms are easy; all u have to do is read the whole book.Only read, no need to remember...and remember his notes. That's it. U have to attend all his lecture and can't be late. He will reduce ur mark. take his course
VERY BORING CLASS!!!!!!!the midterm are ok~~
got some nices notes....really clear w/ what he will put on the exams...got some funny examples to entertain the class...BUT..no quite fair with project marks
Shay rocks and he makes boring business class interesting. Perfect attendence with no late arrivals will guarantee your 6% of the course. Participate 4 more times during class and you'll get full 10% of participation
awesome prof, really good guy and clear, straightforward methods.
well his class is boring hard not to fall asleep, exams are derived from God knows where.I do not recommend his class at all.
Two classes with Shay, in both of them an A... Brilliant!!!
Overall a good teacher and easy to talk to if there are questions about course material or assignments. Provides notes for every lecture and clearly explains course materials. Shay provides examples for his lectures and likes to make funny jokes during class. His exams ok, group project is very hard
The class is a fine class, but all Shay does is sit in the back of the room, and watch people make speeches. When you're done, he tells you what you did wrong. He critiques you on things that he himself does (ie. uh,um etc.) He doesn't even teach anything, he just puts up slides, or a video. Boo!
His test seem pretty hard. Gives you free notes that are only somewhat helpful. Those multiple choice questions are brutal.
Didn't give constructive feedback. Most of the students didn't get how he marked. the course could have been more fun with another instructor
Ron's great. Excellent notes. Midterms and final consist of 2 parts, each worth 50%. The written part comes straight from your notes, multiple choice part comes straight from the book. Overall very nice prof, make sure u go to lecture, he is super nice to hard working students. He hates free riders. Watch out for the case study project.
I agree with Mr. Shays high expectations when it comes to professionalism in your presentation. After taking his class, I see flaws in "professional" presentations that does in fact hinder the outcome of what the speaker wants to express. If you want to succeed in business, a high level of standards are expected. I'm glad I took his class.
yes thank you to whoever wrote the message below! Ron Shay is an absolute jerk! I have never been so be-littled by a teacher before, his assumption of your stupidity is clearly obvious! This guy is such a tool, I just don't know what else to say!
boring lectures. hard marker. not recommended.
ok prof..a lil bit old school..u cant be late in his class or be absent or else that you'll get marks off...
he checked my report and said it would receive a B a week before the presentation was due and I did whole project on my own cuz all people in the group dropped the class. I thought he might have mercy. He even said I could just use over heads he gave me 60% for my presentation and 47% for 13 pg report I did. Don't by his easy goingness he's hard

Shay is a good teacher. I think he really enjoys teaching and does bring passion which I love to see. However, he is a hard marker. If you want to boost your GPA, take a different prof. His marks are guaranteed to be lower on average than others.

I can't believe people are actually complaining about shay. This is probably the easiest class I've taken while at langara. All I had to do was read the text and cram the night before the tests to pull of either an A+ or A. I think you have to be a complete dumbass to get below a B in this class.
This guy sucks. Hello???!! taking attendence and taking off marks for not coming is retarded, which he is. His jokes - childish and not at all funny - you are dumber for taking his classes. Avoid this guy at all costs - don't believe what the people who like him have said - they are probably at the same level as he is. He sucks at life.
He is the hardest marketing teacher in the department. Half the class failed his first midterm. Very hard marker on presentations, and gives tough case quizzes. Not entirely helpful on assignments either... even if you ask him questions. Just study his notes, the book and practice the study guide to pass. However, he is funny and nice!
Shay is the biggest idiot in the male department of instructors (we have G woman.. in accounting..for the women). you will not pass his courses. He thinks it makes him look good, which is retarded.Think very hard before you take him. There are very many other better profs in the dept -thats why he's part-time. Warned ya.Retire the retard.

Take his class definitely to see a whole new perspective in marketing... really, you'll never want to take another after taking him, or any course related to it. Marketing is fun, but not here. Marketing is easy, but not here. Turned an easy course HARD. Limited office hrs, often late. Study really hard, can get B. You decide!
how come shay's feedback remains at 59 throughout 3 years at a suitable 3.5? Looks like the Langara website is controlled to suit its instructors. Shay sucks, in other words. Can't find him, doesn't help you. Lets see this removed to keep it at 59.
Other classes have longer waitlists than his by 50% even if he has the best times sometimes. That should tell you something.Horrible prof and has boomer prejudice with no patience for anybody whose first language is not English.Try other classes first and skip him all together.
Great guy, funny sense of humor. approachable.
Mr.Shay is the BEST Professor at Langara!!! He is very funny and informative! Take this class with him, you won't regret!Just study his notes and you will do well!
Seems like a decent guy. Lectures are concise and filled with relevant examples. You can't really ask for much more.
Most of the negative raters don't get the point which is: In the business world you will meet all sorts of ****s...so your job as a leader (if you get to be one..a good one!)is to adapt and build a great relationship with your staff. So perhaps you miss the point of you being in college...your're being trained right now, so suck it up dudes(ettes)
i think ron is a fair marker, just go to class to get the notes and you will get an A. presenation marks are marked fairly as well as he gives part marks for effort!
Definately not recommended. he comes up with some old lame jokes and his test are extremly hard. very tough marking on project which is 30%.

took his OB class. he's an approachable guy, but doesn't present the most engaging lectures. pretty hard on attendance & marking, & the course is full of content & theory. make sure to study & work hard on the project!
don't take this class, instructor is a control freak and uninterested in students
worst teacher, very boring and uninteresting....... puts the class to sleep!!!!!!
Excellent and a fair instructor, but little strict. Just follow the guidelines...likes regular students.
Ron Shay is not a bad teacher la. He actually tries to pull your mark up. For the midterms, you have to remember your stuff. If you do, then you will be fine.
I highly recomment to take his class,.He make the lecture very interesting. He always give u a hint to get a good mark in the test. He's an excellent teacher i've ever had.
First off, he's really funny. And it's even funnier when he tries. He teaches pretty well -- don't bother taking notes because he prints and hands notes for you anyway. But, you have to read the text because that's the key ingredient to exams; his notes are standard but the book puts them in detail. He's also a very easygoing teacher!
he is an adverage prof. his explantion helps to understand the material. but, he sometimes doesn't even prepare for lectures. i feel like i even read the textbook more carefuly than he does. his group projects really helps students to understand the important points of marketing. he gives hints. exams are not hard. he can teach, but he is quite lazy
his class is super boring, i always fall asleep in his class.
stern, rigid,i highly recommend u guys do not choose this teacher fot any reason.worst choice!!!realy bad.
Teacher was quite good, He makes a alot of jokes and gives the same examples over and over again.Very helpfull if you go and talk to him and in class. You need the text book for the midterms the mult choice is all book. Short answer is all based on his own notes he gives (study these) presentations are an easy mark if you do the work! Good teacher
This prof really sucks. Attendance is mandatory and I swear the guy just likes to hear himself talk. He tells the same dumb stories over and over. His method of teaching is dry. He just goes over the same over heads hes been using for the last 20 yrs. Save yourself the money and take it from someone who will teach you something worth remembering.
He's clear about what you need to know, and tells you what will be on exams. The course itself is filled with a little bit about a lot of different things, so keeping up with readings is key. Definitely stern, but has a sense of humour. Not the easiest, unless you try really hard, but this is one of the most straight forward classes I've had.
Very strict prof!
Tough tough tests. Unhelpful. Not recommended!
such an easy class, and i'm not even a business student. sure, it's not very interesting and he tells the same stories, but marketing isn't exciting anyways. he gives you all the notes you need, and yes attendance is mandatory but if you're paying for a class why wouldn't you go? nice guy and super helpful if you are averagely respectful to him.
he is super boring. and u cant change your seat until the and of semester. not clear at all. not good over all. I recomment "Daug White"
Ron is a fair teacher who will tell you exactly what is expected. If you miss classes or are late to class, he advises you in the first class that you'll be penalized after the first instance. Short-answer test questions come from his notes and multiple-choice from reading the chapters in the book. He doesn't take crap so show up and do the work!
I don't really see how students can give this guy a good mark. boring lectures, useless examples, bias marking, never helps you, assumes his students are retards based on looks and fashion-what else- he checks his site a lot and blames his students for bad comments when really he's unbearable. He doesn't understandwho pays him, he thinks he's boss
please understand this guy is not a prof, he's at most capable of being a highschool teacher
this teacher is the worst teacher i have had in my life dont take it his tests are retardly hard compared to his lectures he says his notes are better than the books but there pretty useless i do not reccomend this teacher he digress to offen
This class is easy and moves really slowly. Ron explains things in great detail and tells you what will be on exams. Tells the same stories over and over. Not bad. However, he is needlessly strict: Lost marks for late/absent (no excuses, not even doctor's note), no laptops or electronics of any kind, you're not even allowed to e-mail him.
I am so glad I took this course with Ron. He is a great teacher, very clear on what is expected of you and what is on the test. Simple, if you don't study and don't care about your education then, surprise, you won't do well. Definitely take a class with him, he really knows the field and makes the class interesting. How many teachers do that?
Nice teacher, approachable. If you have basic business logic, textbook read is not even required. I got 75% average without ever reading the book. If you know nothing about business, and you are lazy, it's better to avoid him. People who have retail experience would be a plus.
Overall, great professor. Clear and precise teaching ability. Will emphasis on important points. Gives expectations and tests outlines ahead of time. Gives great notes to study off of. Focusing on his notes and skimming over the text book will easily earn you a good mark. Easy course; recommended.
if you have masochism, really recommand to take the course with him! long midterms and final + very limited time. dry lectures...really successful in killing my motivation toward marketing!
If you aren't interested in Marketing, don't take him, because he only lectures; that's it. I like his style of teaching because he relates his stories with his lectures, and has great knowledge about the field. If you do everything he tells you to do, then it should be an easy A. Strict, but his classes are worth taking. Bring water to stay awake.
To me, Mr. Shay was a great teacher. I really liked the fact that he always provided excellent real-world examples when discussing Marketing concepts in class. Though he is strict, he has valid reason for it. Do your textbook readings, case-studies, and just keep up with everything and you'll easily land a A+ in his class.
Eh. He's a funny and nice guy, but seems fairly... confident in himself. Arrogant isn't necessarily the right word here, but in his mind he is always in the right. Lectures are usually interesting enough, tests are alright, all around average teacher.
The midterms are very long and hard. Memorize his notes in and out and you'll do good in class. Also the course project will be a huge chunk of your mark so spend alot of time working on that. Final exam is long but fair and a lot less difficult than his midterms.
His class is pretty boring, just hands out notes and then reads them the whole class...exams are super long and challenging (had a 50 multiple choice + ~ 5 pages written answers for a midterm) Overall he's a decent teacher. Just super boring.
OK so I've taken two classes with him, he knows his stuff don't get me wrong. But if you cant read a book and be able to recite it exactly word for word then you are screwed. He is very knowledgeable but dont get on his bad side. Usually just under half of the class fails the first midterm. Its not that terrible, its just lots of tough work.
Very knowledgeable and informative. He's a hard marker and is very strict. I don't mind a educational challenge and enjoyed his class. However, i feel like he wastes time during class talking about how strict he is and how's he's failed people, and students don't like him because he's so hard, etc. all in a condescending voice. Overall he's good.
Ron is a GREAT instructor. Very knowledgeable and thorough. You're guaranteed at least a B+ by studying his NOTES, doing your readings and showing up to class. In fact, you can't even get his notes if you don't show up so I highly recommend that you do!
Course outline lacks details. He told us only one class is mandatory, but in the non-mandatory class, there are in-class assignments that worth huge percentage. And these information are not even on the course outline. Do not recommend for those who may miss a few classes.
Ronald is a nice guy, but, his classes are very boring. He reads directly word-to-word from his projector notes. On top of that his voice is very monotone. You will get sleepy and zone out often. However, to do well in his class study the book and his notes very closely. Tests consist of naming and defining and explaining.
never take this course at langara college. they make us to sell their stuff. selling project worths 40%. have to get advertisings on the pacific rim magazine. never take it
He reads word to word from his PowerPoint and his midterm and final exam are really difficult. The project is worth 40% of your grade where you sell advertising space in Pacific Rim Magazine. I do not recommend this professor.
Make sure to read the textbook. Exams are mixed of subjective and multiple choice types and tend to be long. He is a more of a soft-speaker so the lectures can get a little boring at times and on the other hand can be funny too. off-topic: He looks exactly like a cross between George Bush and Brian Wilson :)
His teaching style is not boring. The OB is boring itself and he makes it much more interesting. Ron has many real experience and it's really useful to help students understand the boring concepts. The only thing is that his style is quite old -fashion, and ask you to sit a same place every class. But it's not a big deal, he's good.
He's your textbook prof, very much by-the-book and his exams are extensive. He has a very gentle demeanor and was pleasant throughout the course I had with him. The only issue is if you wish to see the break-down of your grade he won't bother. His peer evaluation greatly affects your group score and he is highly uncompromising about it.
His class is very interesting. A very nice instructor. the teaching style is really good. if you will attend every class then you can easily pass the course. the exam is the mixture of multiple-choice, subjective questions and based on knowledge.
Ron is a good instructor. Please call him tough grader but you will be fine if you follow what he wants. I had 2 classes with him, OB and Marketing and I would take any classes he teaches. He knows the subjects and give many good industrial example. I like him.
People call him hard marker but I like him. I took 2 courses with him Org Behaviour & Marketing. Honestly these course were the only course I learned something practical. I would definitely recommend him, He knows what he teaches and have enough knowledge. But you should study and do assignment to get a good mark. I would take any course he taught
I don't know why the ratings are so bad. he is a Very calm professor, the course itself is very theoretical so you need to study each chapter in depth. the tests are fairly easy if you went through the material. Very structured outline of the course and on a good pace. He is very helpful and loves interactions. Highly recommend him.
Ron is a good and respected professor. Do not rely solely on his notes you will have to read the textbook. The group project was a bit tough and boring, every team had to do research on the same topic. He has no tolerance for students who don't watch his lectures and pay attention and he is very clear about it. Overall a tough but fair professor.
Ron is a very good prof. I was scared as this course was entirely online but he helped a lot. His lecture videos are really good, and his exams are mostly from the lecture notes with some stuff from the textbook and quiz. He knows who is doing how in class and is very strict about free riders when it comes to the group project.
He is a TOUGH marker. Our class average was so low. Nice prof, but would not take again.
Too much questions on test and exam with the given amount of time. As a international student this made it pretty much impossible to get a good grade. also questions shown on tests were never shown on textbook and powerpoint only talked about it during zoom
To be honest he is one of the worst professor i have ever seen & he dont even care about your question. Never take his course . Dont even give u good grade if you work hard too.
Course was online due to COVID-19. The sales project is worth 40% of your term mark and is a solo project. For this he was a fairly tough marker. Three exams (2 MT & 1 Final) all with 55 MC and 3 matching questions to be done in ONLY in 45 minutes. No time to go back and review answers, definitely felt like he was asking a lot of us for exams.
I recommend him! He is direct, concise, clear communication, tells you what he expects and how he grades, and makes the class as fun as he can with cool case studies and situations to negotiate on! Whether it be a Boeing 777 or a Corvette C8! Thank you Ron.
Makes great lectures that actually complements the book. If you want to learn from a teaching prof, this is a great choice. Very professional with his approach with students. A little stiff though and doesn't tolerate slackers.
The final exam was on four chapters. Students were expected to study four chapters on their own in two weeks window and get ready for the final. Class before final exam was cancelled for unexplained reason. Overall the course was graded on two exams, two individual and two group negotiating stimulation.
good professor, attendance is mandatory, gives awesome lectures based on the book but more to a tough grader.
He was great! I recommend him. I think the hardest part of this course is getting through his lectures. But if you read the textbook (just borrow from the library, older editions are just as useful), the ppt slides, and make notes of the things he says in class, you will do well in his tests. He does a good job at teaching you negotiation skills.
He was a great prof! there was one group project but it wasn't too bad. he has a great policy for group partners who are not putting in their share of the work. midterms and finals relatively easy if you read all the material he gives you.
Attendance is graded. There's one big project which isn't too bad. If you pay attention to rubric you'll be good. Weekly online quizzes are pretty easy as well. Exams are the same questions from the quizzes, so just prepare with the textbook and you should be good. Downside: lectures are just going off the slides, and there's a lot of content.
Ron is very straightforward in his grading criteria and what he expects to see from your papers. To ensure fairness to students in a group project, he is seriously great at spotting who is an irresponsible/non-contributive one for the group project. Attendance matters. Midterm/Final are fairly easy if you really study for the course.
Ronald's class will go good if you have friends to sit with and study with, otherwise you will feel bored. He somtimes respond in rude sarcasm to students. If you are a very disciplined person only then you will do great in his class.
He's one of the worst professors I've had. Even tho i got an A- i could've gotten an A+ if he weren't so strict for a simple course like marketing. He's being strict for no reason and makes people do quizzes on topics the day before his lecture, essentially making students do his work for him. Attendance is mandatory, midterms + exams r to get 90+
This prof is the worst, his assignments don't make sense ,when you ask him for help he just sighs and tsks and then says “well you should've read the instructions” or “did you even read the instructions” ,guys if you miss class you lose 5% (crazy btw) you get only one class you get to miss ,worst business prof in langara pls don't take him yall
very tough grader dont take him
Old school style teacher. Very strict in grading. But nice and kind. If you meet some problems, he will kindly offer help to you. So don't hesitate to ask for help. PowerPoints and notes from him are not enough for reviewing. You need to attend lectures and read textbooks if wanting a good grade.
