introduction to research methods; I thought this professor was very clear and enjoyed teaching his assignments and exams are easy as long as you do your work. He also does group discussions every day which aid your studying and analysis of data.
One of the best professors I've ever had. Loves to teach, is clear, offers different exam choices. Great course material too. He's nice, helpful and understanding. A great prof!
its an interesting course and the proff. is very approachable for different topics. Discussions are great and exams are very relevant to the course material.
Excellent prof. Truly interested in students development and well-being.

He is a very nice prof. Very helpful, for subject related /non-related matter. Take any of his course U will found it worth and u really learn.
Very helpful, but the exams are weird and u need to read a lot!!!
Very nice prof!great TAs!the exam (today) was difficult, but everything was discoussed in the lectures!attend all classes 'cause he has a lot to tell!
A lot of work and reading but its really well taught and organized and totally worth it.
He gave lectures that were particularly interesting, and chose to use material and books other than the traditional psych textbook, which detracted from any potential tedium. An altogether good-natured person who made his course quite enjoyable. He was helpful and constructive and exceptionally fair.
He will open your mind to the world of psychology, undoing many of the bias' that exists today.
I took Educational Psych with him and he is the first professor I've had at York that I can truly say practices what he preaches. He's interesting, fair, and I actually learned something!
very nice prof, one of the ones that he knows what he is doing. he made this course very interesting, and his classes are enjoyable.
This was one of the best courses I took at York! Ron is one of the sweetest and most understanding professor you will ever find. His lectures are really interesting and he is a great professor. You will gain a new perspective on education and Psychology as a whole! TAKE THIS COURSE WITH HIM YOU WONT REGRET IT
He is a wonderful professor with a wonderful personality.Kind and always ready to help you.His lectures are interesting and if you do your reading regularly you will get a high mark with no problems
Best prof. I've had so far. You won't regret it!
this man changed my life. he is not the best lecturer in the world but will help u in everyway possible. some people might think his classes are easy and it might appear that way but be careful because you will have to do a large about of work if you want an A in his class.
Professor Sheese is amazing! He was extremely helpful and always kind to everyone. We studied a book that was written in 1916, but he made it so clear and concise. It's not a bird course, but pay attention and you'll do fine. Prof. Sheese is the best professor at York that I have had. Take any class with him - you won't regret it!!!!
This course is great! The text (dewey, 1916) is written in codes but Ron is great at defining them. The way he delivers the course is EXCELLENT. Do take his courses. He's patient and willing to help. The exams were pretty easy but just make sure you understand the course material!
One of the most sweetest and kind profs you will ever meet. If taking education psych the Dewey text might be hard to understand but when he explains it during lecture....it becomes CRYSTAL clear. He really knows his material
It's the best class I've taking beside developmental. He is crystal clear! He knows his craft. He is extremely concern on making sure that you understand the concepts of Dewey and will explain it until you do. Very approachable. Read the chapters and know the concepts and you will do great! A is guaranteed!
Best teacher. Gives clear examples to supplement readings, extremely helpful one-on-one, answers e-mails, updates website constantly with additional notes to help get the material across, has posted lectures online (audio). Make an effort to approach him if you don't understand and do the readings .
Really good prof. Has a very different teaching style and does not use standard textbooks. Although it may seem hard at the beginning you will do fine at the end as long as you make sure that you understand the "big ideas". Personally I don't think the tests are hard.
He is a great professor, very interested in psychology, very knowledgeable. However his tests are challenging, it is necessary to keep up with the readings. He used different reading material than other profs, he chose two introductory novels to psychology in contrast with eachother rather then the normal psych textbook.
Ron is the best prof ever! he goes out of his way to help students, knows his stuff really well. i found the exams pretty easy! go to tutorials, do the assignments, one project- easy - 40% right there..do ur readings and go to his lectures. you need to be on top of things styll, if u dont get an A in this class, you shudnt be in uni then:).take him
Would definitely recommend him! make sure you go to tutorials and work hard on the project! The TA's and him are always there for extra help and dont be afraid to get him to look at your exams if you dont understand your grades! Make sure you do the readings and attend lectures and you'll get a solid A!
He is one of the best teachers that I have have ever known. He knows what he is doing and I recommend you if you want to know what is psychology, take this course. Study hard, especially his lectures.
the best prof that i've ever had. his lectures are so important for the exams!i personally never read the text books, and i got a good mark.
The most empathetic, greatest professor to ever live. HE is amazing
He is the greatest and nicest prof you will ever meet. Its a very hard course though, so be prepared to go to class and pay attetnion because thats the only way you will understand the book. But the prof makes this easy for you, he is amazing:)
This prof is amazing!!! Really nice prof!! Very efficient in replying to emails. Very flexible. You can get easy grades in this course. Gives grades for attendance and partic in discussion and quizzes on the readings each week (which is a breeze trust me!!!) thats alone 35%. Would recom this prof for this course!! AMAZING!!
He is a very knowledgeable professor. If you want to learn a lot, attend his classes. His tests were mostly from his lectures. I would recommend recording and listening again. His speaks like a well edited book! :D He is also a very approachable and nice person.
Prof. Sheese is the best prof I ever had at York. Three years later I still remember his name and how great of a prof he was. REally smart and understanding. Readings were difficult (lots of John Dewey) but he made long difficult readings interesting. You're awesome Ron!
Although he may be a nice guy, he frequently deviates from the text material and prefers to see his own words regurgitated on the exams as opposed to concise answers based on the textual facts. Students can pass his course without reading the texts. I attend school to get an education, not a profs opinion.
Truly, the BEST professor I have EVER had.Simply amazing. He is an older man, and loves what he is teaching.Great sense of humour.Very organized, very clear, provides notes.I finished with a B, but that's b/c it was my first year of Uni,Psych was not my major, and it was right after the strike.& I had a HORRIBLE t.a.-Elissa.An A is very possible.
He is my hero. Best Classes with him (intro & ed. psych) because he is the best teacher. Loves what he does and it shows. Gives people chances. Cares about his students.
The best prof at York. Very interesting lectures. Exams contain essay type of questions, very fair.
I took this course online throughout the summer. It was challenging as a whole years worth of material was crammed into 3.5 months. Prof Sheese was wonderful, always on the discussion boards to help students & promptly responded to e-mails. The material covered was interesting. I would definitely recommend & love to take another one of his classes.
Wowo..the comment below is AWKWARD! But he is really a great prof he is nice and is very understandable...schools should have more profs like him!
HES THE BEST PROF I TATOOED HIS NAME ACROSS MY HEART COZ HES THE BEST!! VERY HELPFUL TILL THIS DAY I DIDNT FIND A PROF LIKE HIM AT YORK
One ofthe best proff at York. He is very clear in his class and makes the class pretty easy. Make sure to have done the readings. He uses youtube videos to teach the methods used in Psychology. Wonderful Proff Love his way of teaching!
Prof. Sheese really wants his students to succeed and learn something. He's interested in students thoughts, both about the class and with regards to getting feedback. Someone made a comment about only hearing his "opinion". He basis his thought on the text, and if you want to criticize, he'd welcome it. The tests are based discussions of texts.
amazing teacher, very clear. his first year coarse wasnt multiple choice, consist of short answers. he really wants students to learn
He has a talent for rhetoric. Very laid back in lectures, you can tell he knows his material by heart and is very comfortable with it. Exams can be fairly tough if you are not prepared. He also teaches Educational Psych in upper years and I might take those courses. Also very accessible away from the classroom. E-mail dialogue was excellent.
Amazing proff, very clear, helps you with any probs you got. He is the type to make you want to go to this class. overall an amazing proff.... make sure u read all the readings.. as his lectures helps you understand them... and you will be fine!
ALL I CAN SAY IS THAT HES THE BEST PROF YORK CAN EVER HAVE.I HAVE NEVER EVER SEEN A KIND AND SWEET PROF LIKE HIM.OVER ALL HES THE BESTTTTTT ! I LOVE THIS RPOF COZ HES VERY HELPFUL AND CARES ALOT ABOUT HIS STUDENTS
ONE OF THE BEST PROFFS @ YORK. ACTUALLY WANTS THE STUDENTS TO LEARN SO HE LEAVES MOST OF THE TEACHING/LEARNING TO THE STUDENT ON THEIR OWN. WHICH HELPS ALOT! TESTS ARE ALL SHORT ESSAYS SO ITS EASY TO WRITE ABOUT SOMETHING U HAVE NO IDEA ABOUT
THE best professor I have had so far!! I wish he could teach all of my psychology classes. More importance is placed on understanding the material, rather than straight memorization. He genuinely seems to want you to succeed and get something out of the course, other than just a credit. I hope to have another class taught by him someday.
Best prof I've had! Genuinely cares for his students. The way he structures his class into lectures and group discussions really helps one learn from all perspectives. I would take any course he teaches because I really enjoyed him as my professor. The course material was interesting. If u do your work and pay attention to lecture you'll do well.
Ron makes Psychology a practical and meaningful method of reflection on your own life and experiences, while drawing out the 'humanity' out of this science. Expect to think a lot and draw connections in this class, as regurgitation will most likely land you with a C or lower.
This man is the reason I am currently pursuing a degree in Psychology. He really knows his stuff, engages his students in the lectures and tutorials, and has a genuine interest in students' success in the course. If you're willing to attend lectures, do the readings and actively participate in tutorial, an A is certainly attainable.
He's a really good professor. makes everything so clear and very helpful. the tutorials are so much fun, and you get 10% for attendance. attendance for lectures is not compulsory. i really like him, but his tests are difficult. no mc only long answers. i struggled and got a B+. getting a a+ is impossible.
Simply amazing. Knowledgable, approachable, and genuinely concerned about his students' success in the course. I switched my degree program and am currently pursuing a Psychology degree because of Ron. Great guy.
This is a great prof. He's very clear, helpful and very enthusiastic about Psych. Even I don't know how I ended up with a B in his class. If you really work hard then an A is guaranteed in his class. But, you must attend his lectures. Best prof I've had so far @ York.
Best Prof ive taken so far, does things differently and makes the course an easy A if you work hard and have some interest in psychology. alot of his teachings overlap in future psyc courses so you have some idea.
extremely amazing prof, one of the best at york, if you get a chance take his course,
I'm leaving York this year. I had my intro psych course with Ron. After 4 years I have to say that he is one of the best professors you will ever meet. It might be a little difficult to get used to the type of work he expects you to do but hear from me, it's all worth it, and you'll remember every bit. Wish I could take another one with him. LOVE
very nice prof and very helpful. he actually takes insight from students and generally cares about his students.
I took a psych course in high school and absolutely hated it. But I LOVED Prof Ron's class. He drawls a bit (or so my peers thought) but I love that he structured the course so that you actually delve into the concepts you need to learn and the effect they've had on the world. I still remember every single thing I learned. Highly recommend!
The best professor ive ever had! His tests are hard but if you go to class and study you will receive the grade you deserve. He genuinely cares about his students and wants them to succeed. Very understanding, friendly and funny. Id have him as my prof any day!
Best prof ever for psychology 1010! He's so helpful!! Especially if you have him as a TA! So easy to understand, would definitely recommend him!!
Loved the course and loved him. He knows how to teach his students, and he is very patient with them. He has helped any student who has come to him with a good answer. His lectures are very interesting. There is quite a bit of reading, but the material isn't too bad. If you find the reading hard then ron can help you no problem.
He's an amazing prof! He's so helpful and he isn't one of those professor's that will penalize you if you hand in an assignment 2 hours late. He wants his students to succeed and he'll help you understand the material. He's one of the best professor's I've ever had. Very interesting course, wish he taught more courses in psychology.
Took in first year after a recommendation and he was a great prof! You will be able to benefit even more if you visit him during office hours. I went over all my tests with him before the last exam and he ended up giving me extra marks on two of them! He's a great and humble person. Oh and PLEASE don't buy the textbook expecting to use it.
Not only a great teacher but also a beautiful human being
What an absolute gem ! Thank you professor Sheese.
As prev reviews: great prof, great person. Very helpful & patient. Attendance, group work, assignments all matter towards final grade but are easy to complete. Can get a cent grade from just his notes without reading book.
If you are lazy and want to just memorize and regurgitate material, he's not your guy. Its an awesome learning experience with him, because the class explores psychological concepts much more in-depth than the other profs, and there is tutorials and blogs. You actually get to learn something. But it is also more challenging than Jubis and others.
Great professor; course is heavily based on two books. He always goes over each chapters of the book in class. There is a participation component where you discuss questions with classmates. Tests were pretty straight forward. Listen to what he says and take notes; understand the main concepts/ideas and you'll do good.
Very kind person who cares about his students. M/C questions are easy but the short answers are graded pretty harshly. Lectures are boring but half of it is group discussion for participation marks (can also get marks for posting on Moodle).
Professor Sheese is an amazing professor. His methods of teaching an otherwise dry course (Research Methods) are very student-centric. He clearly cares about his students and has in class and online group discussions (with facilitators), which give students the opportunity to engage with the material which leads to a better grasp of the concepts.
Genuinely great person and professor, try taking at least one psyc course with him before graduating from York! Has a very different teaching style and wants all students to succeed.
amazing prof who cares about his students. Loves to teach and you can see it in his work. way to be RON!
THE BEST PROF EVER. I had the pleasure of taking one of his first year classes 2 years ago and I ended up taking his research Methods course. He is extremely understanding and gives away free marks. GO, DO THE WORK, STUDY HARD AND YOUR ARE 100 guaranteed a good mark 50 percent of the class is free marks.
Prof. sheese is a great prof! I have taken more than one class with him and enjoyed both. You do have lectures and tutorials weekly and you have to attend tutorials for attendance marks. He is very understanding and will answer any questions and responds to emails. I would take all the courses that he offered if I could!
I've had Dr Sheese twice and he is an AMAZING prof. You get your money's worth and really benefit as a learner in his courses. Extremely helpful and genuinely cares about teaching. We need more Dr. Sheese's in the world!!!
As a lecturer I found him boring and very disorganized. For a university level course I felt like I was in elementary school. Majority of the class time is spent doing group work which I felt was a complete waste of time. The material is very easy but he makes it complicated and should put more effort in lecturing for the full class time.
Too much emphasis on group work. Every week you have to post a response on Moodle which is very time consuming when your taking other classes. Very disorganized, lazy and not very clear in his expectations for assignments.
Prof. Sheese is a gem and an amazing human being. Truly cares about his students and wants them to succeed. I liked how the course was structured in group discussions rather than the typical reading-off-a-powerpoint lecture. Fair-grader, ended up with a B+ in the course. Go to class and take detailed notes & you will do well.
Tons of marks are just given to you for participation and completion. Tests are very easy if you actually answer the discussion questions in class. Lectures are boring but his notes are straightforward and easy to follow. Would definitely take another class with him!
He is the sweetest prof. Class is a bit dry and boring but IF YOU ATTEND YOU WILL GET A. His exams are mostly from lecture and lecture slides but textbook is important as well. ALSO LOTS of mark for participation so make sure you participate because its easy marks.
Prof Sheese really understands the heavy course load of students. He doesn't assign a lot of work, rather it is quite manageable and does explain everything thoroughly. He makes sure that all of his students understand the concepts presented. The course grading is broken up fairly and learning is taken place with every assignment.
Dr. Sheese is brilliant, funny, speaks beautiful English, and engages students in fantastic conversations. He really cares about his students' success thus many of us sign up in his other courses. He is super generous with his time after lectures, he answer questions, and will give you a critical, but constructive feedback. He is awesome!
Dr. Sheese is a real Gem. he is one of the best and most understanding and helpful prof I have ever had in my undergrad.
He's friendly and his assignments are easy. Here's the big negative - his grading scheme tends to work against you (instead of using percentages, he uses the 9.0 system for each mark, and rounds down).
To many group projects. Boring lecturer. Lots of reading. Horrible grading scheme. Majority of class got C's and D's. Do not take this class with him unless you like getting bad grades.
For Intro psych, I just felt his approach was way too broad and sophisticated. He stresses ideas and not memorization which is fair, but we need a good factual knowledge base to prepare us for upper year courses. I just felt like we were going over the same ideas over and over and didn't actually learn something of substance. Everyone was lost.
Very good lecturer. Super nice and friendly. Tests are straightforward but to do well you need to do more than just answer the question (i.e. provide definitions, novel examples, detailed arguments) - basically if you have 3 hours to write the exam you should be writing for 3 hours straight. He genuinely wants you to think and wants you to learn.
Having been graduated for two years, I look back at the professors that had the biggest impact on my Education and Ron Sheeshe is one of them. Ron Sheeshe's class helps implement critical thinking and writing skills as he taught PSYCH 1010 in an unconventional. Instead of regurgitating topics he provided us with readings to understand ourselves.
Dr. Sheese is a kind professor who is passionate about teaching. But his teaching methods are too abstract. You are not graded on a clear grading scheme but rather unclear outlines and the subjective whim of the TA who marks very very hard. If you want an A do not take this course as you will get C's. Nothing is good enough for the TA.
