Very knowledgable on int. relations. good teacher. all tests are short answer and essays so u can bs.
Excellent prof. knows his stuff inside and out. has taught all over the world. kinda scatter brained at times, but his tests are straight forward, just study the study guide and read and you'll get an "A"
Took as a summer B course last year. Pretty easy, although in summer you won't want to miss a lecture as the tests are very lecture-driven. Very knowledgeable professor; knows a lot about a lot of places.
Very knowledgable. Helpful and bright, has lived everywhere and draws on his experiences. Tests are straightforward and fair.
Only serious poly-sci students should take is INR courses. His lectures are quite detailed and one leaves the course feeling enlightend. I was a bit put off by his lecture style. Writing the lecture outline on the board was like being spoon fed.
Kind of an odd professor. Treats students a little bit like children (has people read aloud - like elementary schoolers) and can be a little dry at times. His voice sounds just like Ralph Nader.
His classes are definitely poli-sci intensive. He's very straight-forward in what he expects and is extremely knowledgable in his field. Try not to miss class though.
I really dislike him. It's relatively easy to get a good grade because he gives very specific study guides for exams, but class is extremely unpleasant. Very very scatter brained-can't believe he's got a PhD. Also very conservative-if you are not you may find him insulting at times, as I did.
uses fun stories to help liven up classes, very easily gets off track. Not too difficult the class presentations are an easy way to get your grade up. Nice guy, always willing to help you outside of class. Books are not always necessary except the one you write your paper on
Dr Libby is a nice guy- enthusiastic about what he is teaching. Most of the last half of the term is on Australia (not a 3rd world country!) Easy to get a good grade- provides study guides for the test. Presentation is easy if you read up on it! I would take him again...
absent minded and tangent prone. he has little logical flow to the class and his exams are vague and subjectively graded. In fairness, he gives a detailed study guide, but you better go way beyond the assigned readings. I have a 3.8 GPA and am getting a B+.
You don't have to read except certain terms, test is what he writes on board! He is disgusting when it comes to teaching. My God.The man pats idiots on the heads because he can feed them his b.s.and grades students he perceives as smart harder.in end you have no respect for him, but you get an A.
Ever hear of the "big jug, little mug" theory? well, this guy takes the cake. It is interesting to me-someone with a gpa of 3.9- that he's told me i "have a writing problem". Well, just so you know, he has a teaching problem! He's pompous, cynical, and completely uninspiring- stay away. His course is not challenging, just vague.
All the material for this class is circa 1985. This is unfortunate, seeing as 3rd world politics is such an ever-changing field. And get this... most of the material is written by him! It's true, he is pompous. Be wary of speaking outloud in class, he'll knock you down a peg or two.
AAARRRGGGHHH!! CAN"T TAKE IT ANYMORE! DR. LIBBY, IF YOU"RE READING THIS, WE STUDENTS ARE NOT ALL RETARDED, AS YOU MAY THINK! TREAT US WITH SOME DIGNITY AND WE MAY IMPRESS YOU.
If you study, you should get an A. You just really have to study for about 2 days straight...
Fascinating subject matter; Libby's extremely knowledgeable, has traveled extensively. Try to overlook the roll-taking and reading outloud and you will learn a LOT. Also, excellent choice of textbooks, rather enjoyable reading. Tests are not hard, just study.. and a study guide is provided at least a week in advance, so no surprises there.
I was scared going in, but if you can get beyond the oddities that comprise Libby, you'll be fine. Libby Loves Facts. This should be your mantra. The class is challenging, but don't let it freak you out. Good texts. STUDY HARD and you'll do fine. seriously, he is not as bad as these people make him out to be.but be sure to go to class! lectures=A!
Libby is a very odd man but very nice and helpful if you talk to him. If you plan on doing class work and not going to class DON"T take it!! do not miss his class do not miss his class!!
His class is easy if you go to class, pay attention, and speak up once or twice. His tests are just as easy if you also read or skim the books. He can be condescending during the lecture, but if you approach him after class, he's willing to hold a conversation. My only complaint? He would repeat parts of lectures, but change some facts.
Libby is cool albiet condescending. just remember to write SHORT SENTENCES! Test aren't that bad if you've studied, but he provides study guides, so it's basically a breeze if you've read the books. just don't write long sentences, even though he tends to. sometimes a little abrupt, especially after class. always responds to emails though
Dr. Libby is a highly accomplished and very knowledgeable professor. He has written something like 6 books, worked in the Peace Corps, and has taught in Botswana, Australia as well as at Notre Dame and Northwestern University. Let's just say he brings a lot of personal experience to the table. I would highly recommend him to anyone.
He is a decent person, but as a professor he totally sucks! Midterm and final are the only two grades and they are both only 4 questions! You HAVE to go to class: attendance every day and his lectures are on the exam. He repeats everything for bout 4 weeks straight before moving on to something else and class is very boring. I DO NOT RECOMMEND HIM!
good teaching ability. good usefull facts that are relavent to the class. you leave the course learning something
I Love Libby! It is the easiest B class ever. If you are okay with getting a B, then take it!
Worst professor I have ever had. Not willing to talk outside of class during OFFICE HOURS! Does not give you expectations before a paper then puts down every student in the class for turning in something so "unprofessional" - puts down students work outside of class as well...never answers a question and u really never know what to expect.
I have taken many of Libbys classes, he is an aquired taste, you either get him or not. He has always been helpfull to me, a real stickler on writing. classes are structured with outlines that are esentualy what he wants as answers to the essays on the exams. Come to class read the book, and write down anything he does.
Horrible! The redundant dunce of the department for sure. Libby feigns impartiality but constantly argues for Kissinger's counterintuitive "realism" of WWII. Libby doesn't know the term comparative advantage, so don't talk if you've even heard the word "liberal." Only comfort: Easy B; A possible if you allow Libby to conquer your common sense.
Libby is a great professor. u have to read and pay attention in class but the lectures are extremely interesting. He is a smart man, ull leave having learned a lot if u try.
Libby was a very understanding teacher. After my grandmother passed away he allowed me to postpone my final until the very next semester. I abosolutly love him. You can't go wrong taking this class you will learn alot he is brilliant
Professor is ok. Very friendly but i found the class to be a bit boring. Some of the topics are interesting. I loved the last book we read. You MUST read all he assigns and MUST take notes in class or you will not pass on the exams. Only 2 exams and they are essay but you DO get a study guide 2 weeks before the exam.
I will never take again. His lectures were worse than boring. The things he taught in class (I attended every lecture) could not be found or supported by the books provided. The exams were essay style only and his grading was inconsistent. I don't recommend to anyone and try to steer them away from him.
Professor Libby was wonderful, and so intelligent. I will never forget the comment he made "the only place in the world where I did not feel alone was XXXXXX." He's great and very structured. No, he doesn't do a song and a dance, but you will leave his class and have learned something.
Professor Libby was the most good-natured teacher I ever had. He was really very kind and didn't belittle you, like some teachers have been known to do; yes, his lectures are repetitive, but they stuck(!) with me.
He isn't the most exciting professor, but he is smart and experienced. You will learn so much in his class. The books he picks are probably the best books I've ever had for a class. Make sure you go to class as half of the test is straight from his lectures.
I have taken two INRs with Libby and highly recommend him. He's one of UNF's best! Even if this stuff isn't your specialty he strives to engage students and it's hard not to like his witty, common sense style. Tests are essay format but he is a fair grader. Study guides are given too, and it would be wise to talk to him *before* the exams!
A B+ ? Are you kidding me? Because I don't agree with everything you say. The class was easy, but now I am going to get my Ph.D just to refute every argument and crush every theory he has ever had! P.S. Measheimer Chapter 4 is garbage! Good job giving A's to students that don't give a darn and know nothing. Classy
Good professor, just he repeats himself over, and over, and over, and over again.
very smart. Nice guy. He tells you what he thinks and lets YOU form your OWN OPINION. Just go to class take notes, and you will pass. Study groups are helpful. One book report, one 3 minute speech, midterm and final. EAAAAASSSYYY!!!!
I love him! He was really dry, well okay...extremely dry in lecture, but he knows what he is talking about! Just study the notes and read the books and you shound be fine.
He can be a bit dull at times, but he definetly tries to keep the class interesting. He is very knowledgeable about the material, and the class is not challenging if you just read the 2 assigned books. YOU HAVE TO TAKE NOTES IN CLASS!!! More than half the test is from his lectures.
Talks a lot without really saying anything. He has no structure and is all over the place. I will admit, his reviews are a bit helpful, but otherwise it feels like he is just a scatter brain. He also attacks you if you have an apposing viewpoint so be ready to defend yourself.
Dr. Libby is very nice! His class isn't hard, but you HAVE to study and you HAVE to go to class and listen. You also should be interested in the subject. His tests aren't hard if you've studied :)
Took him for Intro to International Relations. His personal views are pretty outdated but he rarely brings those up in discussions. He gives you an outline for the test- very helpful.
Took him for International Relations. His teaching method is writing on the board whatever comes out of his mouth in no organized fashion. He is quite the bore. The only good thing is that he gives exam reviews 3 weeks before the exam. Avoid him if possible. As previously noted, he WILL challenge your point and attack it.
This teacher is horrible! I never could follow what he was talking about, almost fell asleep in class everytime, and I didn't get a good grade on the midterm because he attacked my grammar and barely paid attention to my points or information on the subject asked about. I highly recommend NOT taking this class!!!
This professor is all over the place. He lectures facing the blackboard, on which he scribbles everything he has to say. If you are passionate about international relations this course may make you think twice about your career path. It's not you, its the prof this time...
Most of the class is a waste of time. He rarely stays on task and goes off on tangents. Most of the time little gets done. Probably the worst professor I've ever had.
The class at times seemed very unstructured. However with it being an intro level course, most students were lost because they never picked up the text. Has an odd introduction of everyone bit for first day, I dare you to tell him you are a Poli. Sci. major because you want to go to law school. Better yet, tell him you want to do International Law.
HORRIBLE professor. Avoid him if you can. Writes everything on the board in a completely unorganized way. You cannot read his writing. He gets angry if you ask him what he wrote Readings were boring. Tests are all essay Qs. Tries to be an easy grader. Nothing ever gets done in class. He is still a nice guy, but a really bad prof
He outlines all of the lessons but he's so repetitive and goes on tangents writing random things all over the board. My notes go back and forth with arrows all over them. He challenges your view points but not to call you out, it's an INR class, he's encouraging you to debate and back up what you are saying ie. practice for the real world.
DO NOT TAKE HIM! His notes are all over the place. Gets mad when you ask what they say or what he's talking about. He goes off in a tangent. Only 2 tests..midterm&final. Both essays. I was interested in political science before this class. NOT ANYMORE.
Professor Libby is a little eccentric but very knowledgeable. Class is note taking, current events, & a short oral presentation. Grades on grammar not just content! Relaxed atmosphere but he writes all the notes on the board instead of handouts. Will not answer email and doesn't use blackboard. Mid term and Final are blue book essay.
Nice guy. Pretty good teacher. Almost too knowledgable in the INR field for the student's good. Easy grading scale but a tough grader so a B is assured but an A is hard to achieve.
Professor Libby is... unique. His teaching style is hard to relate to because he is all over the place. In a literal term meaning he writes insanely small and insanely sloppy on the board and he jumps from one topic to the next. He is too smart to be teaching and needs to be doing something else where his knowledge can be properly utilized. C- prof
All I can say is "LEAVE LIBBY ALONE [sobbing]". The man simply gets a bad rap because people are intellectually intimidated by him. UNF is lucky to have him. As a freshman I was warned against taking him. I ignored the haters, greatly enjoyed the class, and easily earned a high A. 4 Libby classes later, same result. Do work and you will be fine.
Intelligent and eccentric professor. Take notes and pay attention. He's witty and cool and an awesome old man.
Libby is not a bad professor. Libby gives incorrect information about countries worldwide and disregards students when they correct him. He blatantly says that all students can't write and does not take into consideration another perspective. I am a student from a different country and all my knowledge of my country is false, according to him.
Awful. Just awful. He mumbles the notes he wants you to take, and writes so small you can't read what is on the board. DO NOT take a 6 week course with him. He thinks all students are too dumb to write and he lets his political ideology influence the way he teaches.
WORST TEACHER EVER. Do not take him! seriously. So frustrating. Horrible at giving notes and never teaches what will be on the test. If you can avoid taking a class with him, do it.
Ronald Libby is the worst professor I have ever had. He makes us read articles aloud together, which takes forever, when you could read it yourself in two minutes. He teaches his right wing opinions as fact. He refuses to give someone a "perfect" score, even when you include all the information he gave you on exam. He rambles on forever. Just awful
He is the worst professor ever!! He does not think we an write and doesn't want anyone to make an A. If you don't have to take him, dont!!
If you actually are willing to put in the time and the work this professor can really be rewarding. I walked having learned something from the materials provided more than the lecture, but the expertise of the professor in the field is evident. This professor has a realdesire to succeed, but at a level some students may not be prepared to perform.
I got a B in the class, but walked away learning nothing. He argues his political philosophy like it's fact, even though it's clearly not. He gives awful notes that are unorganized and he doesn't speak very loud, but if you read (a lot) you should be okay.
Took Glbl Issues in Contmp Pol,&got an A.WORST PROFESSOR EVER!Scribbles on the board. Forces his ideaology upon you.Reads his handouts aloud. Writes every SINGLE word of his lectures on the board while talkin w/ his back 2u.Has 0 time management.Bias.It's possible 2 get an A, but if u want 2 actually learn, STAY AWAY. What a WASTE of a professor.
Beware! He is a nice man, but this class nearly killed me. At least he has a skewed grading scale, so I guess it would be hard to fail. But, it's also very hard to do well. This is the first time I've ever hoped for a B (rather than an A) - I just want it to be over!
Great Professor, a little distracted but teaches well. Very well read, and knows what he's talking about. Would definitely take him again!
Great professor. Dr. Libby gives you a study guide for the mid-term and Final. Definitely recommend his classes!
This class might be a challenge because even though I like lecture classes, he tends to ramble and start going in 5 different directions in a 10 min time frame and writes in illegible handwriting. I'm deciding to avoid the back of the class because I could hardly hear him! I feel like asking for clarity on an assignment would just confuse me more.
Prof. Libby is fantastic! I loved this class! However, I already had an understanding on the material before hand so I can see why he could be challenging otherwise. On the exams make sure to write concise and to the point and sit close in the front.. he does have terrible handwriting!
I really don't understand why people complain about him. He is straight to the point. He gives you a study guide that is the exact TEST! I wish I took more of his classes honestly.
He is a great teacher. Kind of boring and monotones but is very interested in this course. He tries to make it fun and gives breaks as needed. He was not hard but the exams are essay format. Just study and take his notes and you will do fine. Take him!!
This is an old school instructor. He writes on the board, yet his handwriting is hard to read. When you listen while he's writing you'll get the notes. He said "PPTs aren't effective." I agreed. He rambles but it's not like you won't learn anything from it. Go to class everyday.Study! Tests essay format comes from notes and one oral presentation.
Worst decision I ever made. Libby is a VERY smart man (probably one of the smartest), but his class was hard, boring, and confusing. He always goes off topic and off schedule (wait. what schedule?). I had to take him because I'm graduating. Try another professor. Miss more than 4 classes and he basically kicks you out!
Covered less than 1/3 of the scheduled material. He goes off topic for half the class. Does not use blackboard so you never know your grade. Last day of class he was introducing new material that will be an essay question on the final. Horrible. Avoid this class if possible.
Libby is a very smart but he has a difficult time sharing his knowledge with his students. Many students dislike his teaching style but if you can make it past his boring lectures you can get at least a B in his class. He gives study guides before the midterm and final which are helpful. If you can make it to class you can pass with an A/B:EASY
He is always off topic and never gets to his tutorials. He wants to hear everyone's opinions and then tells them how crappy they are. He uses examples in lecture, and then marks them wrong on the exam. Very hard to please and almost impossible to get an A or B. Think about choosing another professor.
No. Do not. Complete waste of time. Prof. Libby constantly gets lost in irrelevant off topic tangents and writes his notes tiny on the board in cursive. He belittles every student and is teaching outdated theories. Just dont.
Save yourself and do not take this course if you do not have to.
500 word minimum paper due weekly. Grades grammarsentence structure. No book assigned. hard to write 500 words without a reference. Gives some reading, but still not enough info for assignment. VERY HARD class and his teaching style is almost nonexistent.
This Professor does assign weekly writings, but that is all he assigns for homework. They are easy to complete and if you have any problems he is very understanding. His final is in essay format and if you observe the study guide (where all the exact questions are) passing with a high mark is not difficult. Would recommend to anyone!
EASY A! or B depending on how much you're interested in the subject. You can retake the quizzes twice (10-20 questions), 2 discussion posts, a few short essays and that's it. I really learned about the international system, you get plenty of time to complete the assignments. If you need an elective TAKE THIS CLASS NOW!!!
I was intimidated and hesitant to take his Terrorism Today class only because it was online but man I sure am glad I took it! The way Libby guided structured the class everything was very clear and I learned so much! I am now more open to take more online classes. He did an excellent job!
The textbook Professor Libby chose, in my opinion, did not explain things well and Professor Libby always wanted more details in our assignments than the textbook had. He was an easy grader though. Just know that there are very long chapters to read each week and often video lectures to watch as well. Don't procrastinate!
The guy grades by his own opinion rather than upon factual substance. I was given a D on a paper because he said it was 'factually inaccurate' despite the fact that my answer was an almost verbatim answer taken from the textbook he assigned. For some reason he spends a lot time on Mexican immigration for an international political economy class.
Highly recommended! I now know more about the issues than most politicians on this subject. Thanks Prof. Libby! There were 2 q's, 1 test, 6 discussion posts and a final paper. Final paper was minimum 3 page. LOTS of reading & research and great guidance from the prof. Make well-researched posts/essays and paper and you will do great.
He gave assignments and explained the assignment in one sentence and when you got the assignment wrong he acted like you were a idiot. He said to explain why Isis was not a threat to the western part of the world which obviously they are. When everyone did so he wrote a announcement saying how they are. Then gave everyone a bad grade for doing so.
Many module assignments do not encompass the expected learning outcomes. Does not explain adequately the reasoning behind your grades, just that your view is wrong. One assignment required you to take a stance on the threat of Islamism based on your last name, then proceeded to state he was disturbed people did not find Islamism is a threat.
HE CARES ABOUT STUDENTS. GREAT TEACHER, TAKE THIS CLASS. YOU'LL ENJOY IT, HE'LL HELP YOU. best teacher in UNF!!!!
There aren't any lessons. He has you read module material, and has you write papers on material not included in the modules. His instructions are vague and short, about one sentence, and expects a very detailed and specific answer (that isn't found in module material.) Wasted time by posting inaccurate assignment instructions. Don't take him.
Professor Libby's class was a lot of writing but I was totally okay with it since I want to go to law school, he challenged me every paper and helped me sharpen my writing skills, just make sure you watch the videos every week and do the readings and have well structured papers and you will do fine!
Severely disappointed with this class. I took it online - every assignment I turned in he would mark me off and give me comments that had nothing to do with the construction of my paper, but rather arguing my paper with his personal opinions. It felt extremely unprofessional and I did not get nearly as much as I wanted from the course. Do not take!
