He is a great person. Offers to help all the time and makes himself available for many hours. Very nice and down to earth!
Very helpful and understanding teacher. Good class enviroment.
Very good teacher who explains the course material very well. He is avaliable for office hours when ever you need help. I would recommand anyone who is taking psychology to take Dr. Khoo
this class sucked. i didnt like the class to start with but he didnt make it much better. he trys to help out and be usefull but he just isnt. you deff have to try really hard in his classes! id say hes a fifty fifty teacher. half the kids love him and half dont.
he rushes, i dont like him very much... there isnt a lot you can do to keep your grade up... if you dont study.. you'll fail.... plain and simple
He's a very hard teacher and doesn't explain the course content clearly. His tests are hard. I had to study every night to get an "A" in his class. If you don't study A LOT in this class, you will fail.
his whole class is on powerpoint & he posts the notes online, so no use to going to class. but it doesnt help any. there is no homework to help understand the material and he's hard to understand. he's ok for some people but for people like me... the class is miserable & he'll make you feel stupid
Horrible class!!I can't understand him. When asking for help he simply tells tou to manage your time instead of explaining the material. Very tough and extremely boring. I would never take another class with this guy, although I hear he curves final grades to pass half the class!
Don't underestimate him. He teaches the HARD classes, & he understands that. He cares about his students, and will do what he can to help. If you interact w, him in class you will get a lot more out of it. I am taking a 330 level FDS class w, him in the fall and looking forward to it.
I had Dr. Khoo for PSY204 and PSY251. He is great. He gets to know each of his students. He gives homework (but doesnt grade it). Instead, he makes notes on it so you can see what you could have done and so you can check your own understanding. Very sweet. Take him, just don't be lazy
I took Khoo for Psy of Cognition, he is very helpful if you are having problems in the class. He just reads his slides and you do some cog experiments with the coglab book. Boring class, but had it fun parts. Wouldn't mind taking another class with him again. But test are long but open book.
He's a fair graders may be a little confusing at times but he's willing to work with you and help you out. Thought he did a good job with 201 and 204- i wish he was teaching 225!
i definitly do not recommend his class at all.. he's confusing and difficult to understand. you study your butt off and still for nothing. it was a 100 class and it felt like a 300... he really needs to rethink his approach to teaching
was one of the easiest classes ive ever taken. all powerpoint, multiple choice exams, no papers. maybe it was so easy because i took it over the summer, but it was cake if you showed up and read
Another teacher many will hate as they want a free ride through college with no effort. He teacher at a high level, but the end result is you learn alot more. His tests are difficult, but he is very good at covering the subject matter and gives all the notes in powerpoint. I had a few classes with him and each one I walked away happy with at the end as I learned so much that I still remember years later. Highly recommended for psych majors and serious students.
ehhhhhhhhhh... it's okay.. but, if you can get out of it... don't take it...
he's a jerk! i do not recommend him at all! he's no help and doesn't offer assistance.
Khoo is a decent prof...the only big problem is that the tests and quizzes are really hard. The average grade for our class on them has been around 50. If you read the book and memorize everything, you'll be okay. Realistically, come to class, study hard and read the book and maybe you'll get a C. He can be funny sometimes and doesn't have the best english. He is definitely willing to help, but can be a bit vague and unclear at times as well. overall, average prof and make sure you READ THE BOOK A LOT!!!!
Difficult to understand
this class was hard, if u do take it be sure u read the book and print his notes out online(he is hard to understand), its all about memorization!!!!
This class starts off seeming really bad, but there are 2 keys to success...1: Take notes and/or print out his online notes, 2: READ THE BOOK! I started off by failing the first pre-exam badly, but I ended up with an A- in the class. Sometimes he curves and yes, he can be a little confusing at times. All in all, this class is NOT bad, if you STUDY!
He is a good teacher, but hard. He sometimes confuses people. but over all he is a good teacher. There are alot of quizzes and teests, but it only helps you to learn more.
dr. khoo is awesome. sure he is hard to understand sometimes, but his classes are pretty laid back. the tests are hard, but everything else is easy. i am really bad at math and i passed psych statistics with no problem. he is funny and always willing to help but dont plan on getting out early.
I had him for PSY 100 and thought it would be fun to take him for 250. The course covered a lot of material, but as long as you keep up with the notes and book, you will do fine. He is a funny guy and the class can be entertaining. I found it very interesting. In the end, he tends to give a slight curve as well, which is nice.
OMG,, I loved Khoo. He is such a great guy and he is the very very fair and interesting. Yes, material is a drag but having him teach it, count on laughing, fairness in grading and doing a lot of homework. I would def recommend him to anyone for any class....
Just get out of it now while you can!
dr. khoo is very smart, his classes are not easy, but if you take advantage of his expertise you can learn a lot. He is sometimes hard to understand and tests are difficult, but if you study you can succeed. MEMORIZATION for his tests is key!!!
For a VERY difficult subject he does a WONDERFUL job teaching it. Dr. Khoo is sincerely interested in his students succeeding and will make sure you understand the material. This is the second time I've taken statistics and I got an A-. He demands alot, but in the end you walk away understanding the material.
Really cool guy. Very knowledgeable and teaches using powerpoints. About 5 one-two page papers during the semester one small experiments that we did. very interesting course. learned a lot. tests are challenging but if u study the powerpoints and READ THE CHAPTERS u'll do fine. for tests its like 30 mult choice and 2 or 3 essays. ok grader i'd say
I read everyones comments about the teacher before i took the class and was hesitant about it but i thought i would do fine. when i got to class i said to my self "wat the hell was i thinking" if u want to try it go ahead but there must be better psych teachers than this one. u take lots a quiz that are hard to pass cause they are only 6 questions
hahaha...horrible..his tests are insane! dont do it!
He is chill....and mad funny. Almost no work, easy tests/quizzes. Easy grading policy.
Dr. Khoo does a great job, and he's funny! He's a down-to-earth person. You must understand--- it's NOT Dr.Khoo that is too Hard it's the subject matter. He teaches advanced Psychology and psychological statistics classes... it's not easy stuff people! But he's great for extra help!
I think that he's a really intelligent guy. Even though I had a lot of work to do in his class, but I also learned a lot from it too. It wasn't that hard to Ase his class as long as you read the chapters and do all the questions in the text book. All the questions in the test are motiple choices, so it is extremely easy. Just read the chapters.
I am an honors student,I had a 3.95 gpa and thought this class wouldn't be too bad.I was wrong. He always insists that he is right no matter what. His tests and quizzes are based on insignificant information from the chapters, he tries to make you get it wrong.I would choose a different teacher if possible.Made mistakes grading my tests/quizzes too!
easy as long as you kept up with the work and studied somewhat.
The class is hard yet he makes it harder by confusing us students. Typical Asian teaching style. Memorize! Memorize! And more memorizing! If your into a more flexible psych class, avoid him at ALL COST! He has pets in class & if he doesn't like you, you are doomed!
im not sure why there are so many negative comments towards Khoo. The class is SUPER EASY! the hw assignments are a joke and the final grading is only based on attendance, a quick survey for the psych department, and 3 easy multiple choice tests. if you go to class and read the text (which is an interesting read anyway) you'll get a good grade
Very knowledgeable about the subject. He tries to make the class sound easy by saying that the tests are only multiple choice, but you have to study for these multiple choice. You must study class notes and the book to do well in his class. The best thing about his class is that 84-100 = A. 80-83=A- and so forth, so you can get an 85 and get an A
He is nice. If you don't read you will fail. Even if you do read you still might fail every quiz. I did better guessing on the quizzes, be prepared to work ur butt off
Class is fairly simple. His notes are online and in powerpoint format, but he flies through them in class. I recommend taking notes on your laptop. Quizzes are easy. Some questions come from the book, but the sections aren't bad. Some things he says in class are NOT mentioned on his slides. His accent can be hard to understand at times.
He is extremely nice if he knows your a good student and are ACTUALLY trying to do well... If he sees your slacking off you'll get the grade you deserve. Pay attention in class and study for an hr for each quiz the night before and you'll get an A. He tries to make good analogies but they dont always work. Great teacher. Highly Recommended!
Very nice professor, material is a lot but go to class and read the book you will be fine. Also start the paper early!
I just took him this summer. Best teacher i have ever had. He is crazy smart. He is very helpful but you need to actually study. Can't wait to have him again!
Professor Khoo really deminished my love for the field of cognition. His slides make NO SENSE. Words are spelled wrong and the slides are very unorganized. I got an A because I worked pretty hard but I don't understand how he is a professor, let alone has a job teaching. Stay Away!!!
Very hard to understand him. Read the textbook and you'll pass.
Very nice guy with good intentions, but it's hard to learn material with his teaching style. Study guides are a mess and material is often repeated and scattered. You have to study... it's definitely not an easy A.
I had him for 3 of my psychology classes. He is one of the best psychology professors I had at WestConn. He is very knowledgable and always willing to help. His tests are hard but if he sees your trying you will be fine. Also he tries not to use textbooks because he knows how expensive it is for students. I highly recommend him!
I would avoid. Hard to understand, hard material, hard tests.
Great Professor! Tells you exactly what needs to be done to get the grade you want, and is very helpful with everything. I would recomend him for any psych class. As long as you pay attention youll be fine
Probably the worst professor i've ever had. He is very hard to understand, makes jokes and just laughs to himself because no one can understand him. Tests are very difficult and class is extremely boring! I studied what he asked and none of what he told me to read was on the test so the whole class was just a waste my time. AVOID HIM AT ALL COSTS!
A nice guy. His classes are not the most interesting but if you pay attention you will be fine. Doesn't use the textbook at all so don't bother buying it. His tests can be challenging; you really need to know the study guide in and out. However, he doesn't grade unfairly.
I am taking PSY324 with Dr. Khoo. He is extremely helpful and approachable. His classes are interesting and he is down to earth. If you do the work, show that you are trying, and talk with him if you need help, you will pass.
Horrible. First of all the study guide not helpful because he copy and pastes the ENTIRE PowerPoint so that the study guide end up being 15+ pages. Rude d condescending tried to call me retarded because I didn't understand the format of his tests. This final is worth 40% of your grade and its all or nothing. Take Nelson if you can.
I've had Dr. Khoo for many classes. Psychology of Cognition was the first. He has an accent, get used to it. His cognition class was difficult, only if you didn't read... So read. If you don't, expect to fail. Understanding concepts is KEY. Your not going to pass tests with a working idea of a concept. Again, remember concepts and any diagrams.
PSY 324 with Dr. Khoo is laid back. It's a refresher of 204, with the computer doing computations. You do a project worth 60% of your grade, don't slack of on it. It's A LOT OF PREPORATION BUT EASY when you start collecting data. It seems daunting but ask for help and Khoo's there. A simple class blown out of proportion. Last exam not mandatory.
Definitely a strong accent, but you get used to it after a while. He gives 3 tests and a quiz on every chapter. Tests are a big part of your grade, so be sure to spend a lot of time studying or else you won't pass. Study quiz questions before tests because they tend to re-appear. Powerpoints are online, so don't kill your hand taking notes in class
His accent wasn't a problem for me at all. His class was just straight up boring. I just played on my phone every class. Although, he's a nice guy. He wasn't terrible at teaching, but wasn't good either. I got a C- in the class which is unacceptable to my standards. The culprit was a D on the last test. Every other assignment I got a B or better.
Dr. Khoo is an awesome professor, but be prepared to study HARD. Be sure to study the powerpoints that are posted on Blackboard, read the textbook, and do the practice problems in the chapters. Do those three things are you should be good! Effort is essential to passing and if you have trouble or concern about your grade, just email him.
All of the powerpoint slides can be downloaded from blackboard so don't worry if you have to miss a class. There will be quizzes on each chapter but he'll notify you before. Each exam is on 3 chapters at a time so make sure you study! His accent sometimes bothers people but I didn't have a problem with it. He does take attendance most of the time.
Guy treats his class like we're Harvard Med students. Unless you want to lose your mind stressing about his class, don't take it.
rude can't teach, needs to get rid of that accent can't understand him for shizz
Other reviews said he was horrible but it wasn't too bad. Study guides are basically all the power points, so rarely any notes. If you want to pass just make sure you study the power points and show up to class. His tests are pretty hard since they're all open ended and no multiple choice. He is a hard grader but can curve the test. Got an A!
I took his class in the fall semester last year. Although he was friendly and lecture heavy, he did not let me make up a quiz I missed due to medical reasons. Personally, I would recommend taking his class if you have amazing attendance, pay very close attention in class, and read the textbooks.
Dr. Khoo is not a bad professor. He holds his classes to a high standard. He accepts no excuses for students missing work or tests. He surmised anecdotally how hard we would have to study. I became fixated on this, rather than being aware that it was an average and not a requirement. Use the materials, attend, and study as you would personally need
Mediocre teacher, good facilitator Reads off of slides and doesn't explain very well. I think he expects students to figure out the concepts for themselves. If you can depend solely on a textbook and slides then you'll do fine in his class. If you prefer a teacher that gives good lectures and explains clearly, try another instructor.
He gives 3 quizzes before each exam, & gives the quiz during the last 5 minutes of class. You don't learn anything, bc he reads right from the powerpoint & that's it. This should just be an online course bc he puts the slides online, 100+ slides each chapter at that, & the study guide is 14+ pages with just terms and topics. DONT TAKE HIM!!
Dr. Khoo is a great guy. He's super nice and definitely looks out for his students, as long as they put in effort and work hard. Khoo will have your back even if you mess up. Pay attention in class and read over the power-points at home and you'll be golden.
I really feel like professor Khoo is rated unfairly. He is very knowledgeable and is always willing to stay after class/set up a meeting time if you feel like you're struggling, but he won't chase you down. If you're aware you need help and fail to seek it out, that's on you; this is college.
Hes great if for in this major. The worst if you aren't. I get it college more work all of that but he is ridiculous. Memorize 30 slides for 10 question quiz. Quiz's and tests every week (not kidding). They aren't easy either. So much work you'll neglect other classes or this one. Class averages come out to a 60 on exams. Save your self.
He's very smart and very strict, however he cares a lot about his students and them doing well. His assessments aren't easy, but I put in the time and effort to prepare and I'm proud of the grade I got. Class averages on all 3 exam usually ranged from C- to B. But, I got either an A or a B+ on each exam... if you put in the work you will do fine.
He's alright. I feel like he's criticized too much. Sure his lectures are a lot to memorize and recommends a lot of reading, but he is a very generous grader (80% counts as an A-) and genuinely cares about the subject.
Very disappointed by the way he runs Psy 324 Experimental Psychology. He reads off slides, is barely comprehensible, grades very harshly on already poorly designed exams (that are mostly on things not covered), and isn't helpful when answering questions. Even if you are a psych major who studies and cares, this class will still mess up your GPA.
All he does is read off of slides. There's multiple tests and quizzes every week, and he treats every single student as if they are all Psych majors. This class was probably the hardest I have ever taken, and PLEASE do not take him if you do not have to.
DR. Khoo is great! He really cares about all his students. If you try you will do well. He is willing to work with you so you really understand the material. You take a midterm, if you do well you don't have to take the final. His midterm is fair and it is based of off examples he has gone over step by step in class. 100% would take again!
Khoo is so easy going and flexible. If you didnt do well or didnt like his class its probably because you werent used to his teaching style. Its so easy to do well. Classes might be boring but going really helps. Some of the work is redundant but it is to make sure you remember like using SPSS and research design
Your grade is based off of your individual research project and one or two other assignments but the point of the semester is to perfect your writing of APA papers on research and he gives you WEEKS to do them and fix them. He is so easy going and relaxed and truly just wants people to do well
This class requires serious commitment in order to succeed. Dr. Khoo is very supportive and wants his students to succeed.
If you need an easy A take this course. If you plan on learning, take someone else. Half the lectures he went on tangents about vaccines, I'm sorry, not everyone believes in vaccines so why preach about it. We pay money for education and not opinionated rants. The work is reasonable, the content not so much.
Papers weren't graded based on the grading system, points were taken off for no reason. During class he'd just read directly off the slides and most of the time was spent on off topic discussions.
he mentioned numerous times that he hates statistics and prefers not to teach it and still harshly graded everything and took points off with no explanation. He just reads off his own slides which give little information and talks constantly about the covid vaccine. Yet another one of westconns amazing professors
My only issue with Khoo is that he doesn't spend our class time wisely. All he did was read directly off the slides, and then go on long tangents on topics unrelated to Psychology. He definitely needs more direction and organization. Perhaps the 1 hour 40 mins is too long for him.... Otherwise, he's great.
I love Professor Khoo. He is a hit/miss for most people, however you really need to show you are trying and get on his good side. He enjoys when students reach out and talk to him. He is very funny. One of the hardest classes I ever took, however if you SHOW you are trying, send e-mails schedule visits etc, he appreciates that the most. Just try.
When he lectures and reads through slides and goes off on random tangents. But he gives pretty straight forwards assignments and his tests are medium difficulty as long as you pay attention. He likes to see you try and he is pretty funny/random
all he does is read off of slides. grades are based on quizzes and three exams.
Dr. Khoo knows what hes talking about but unless youre a psychology major with no choices left I wouldnt take his class. He expects students to self teach from the textbook and give very little elaboration. He boasts his students average at a C. But, he cares about helping his students if they are struggling, and will try to help them succeed.
