A great professor that articulates well and is keen to details. His passion for what he does is reflected through his knowledge as well as his efforts to make sure his students capture what must be understood. I highly recommend this professor to anyone that wishes to deepen their understanding of the rich history behind British literature.
I loved his class and if you dont pass you would literally have to do nothing. All he did was lecture over the readings and you had discussion post due on thursdays and sundays. only thing I really didnt like was how the essays were so close together but he gives great feedback and really helped me improve my writing
EASIEST EVER. Waste of time. And I'm in high school. Terrible.
I had him for comp 1302 and Brit lit 1 and I got a high A in both. He had a lot of pop quizzes in brit lit, but if you did the readings youre fine. He also offers extra credit by attending TCC events and its worth a lot. Honestly if you stay up with the work and turn it in youll most likely get an A. He is kinda hard but easy to get an A.
I had RONNIE, yes, he let us call him by his first name, for English comp 1&2. I got a 100 both times, but his class is pretty rigorous. The quizzes are definitely the worst part because it asks for very specific pieces from what you read. You have like 3-4 papers and he grades a little hard, but he offers a good amount of extra credit. Take him.
I had Ronnie for ENGL-1301 & ENGL-1302. Most people on campus would say that he was a bad teacher and that he was a little tough but as long as you did the work and read the chapters you could pass with high grades. He did assign long essays but was pretty lenient on grading and would give you good feedback on your rough drafts.
I had Ronnie for Brit Lit I and II in High School. He offers great and simple extra credit opportunities. Get ready for a quiz every week so really read the assigned chapters. Also keep up with the syllabus and ask your questions. Ronnie enjoys class disscussions especially the student started ones.
I enjoyed taking his class because I never felt overwhelmed with anything. He always explained everything very well, and was very clear with what was expected of you each week. The one thing I didn't love about this class was the lengthy essays. Their are three essays and they are about 5 pages each.
Prof Stephens is awesome, told the class exactly what to do and did not ever overwhelm us. I would definitely take again.
Overall this class was difficult for me. This was my first time back in school since I graduated MA school in 2007. It was a difficult for me to understand his assignments. After sending several emails which he did not reply to I decided to drop his class.
I loved this class very much. While it is a good bit of work, Professor Stephens is a kind and brilliant teacher who accommodates his students. He stays on top of the current news and is very interesting. He analyzes things to the very last detail and is a 10/10 teacher. There were a lot of essays but he is lenient with time and is easy to talk to.
This professor is attentive and very interested into our assignments and understanding. He also will give good feedback and will address with what is necessary. Awesome Professor tho and completely understands!
She was nice, but not at all clear on what we were being graded for. I got a straight-up zero on a paper with no reasoning as to why. Despite that she wasn't too bad, and the class is enjoyable, I just got the impression she doesn't like being emailed
He is nice, funny, and approachable. If you take it as a summer class, there is an assignment due every night and a major assignment/essay every weekend. The only think that was difficult for me personally is that he is liberal and while he does not force you to think what he does, it is difficult for a conservative to sit through his class.
Took Professor Stephens for summer credit, he gave us time to take in assignments and gave reasonable amount of work. Definitely want to take him for English 1302.
Fun class, he talks about what's going on in the world at the beginning of class which I loved. He goes over all assignments in class and dedicates the class to them and explaining, making it known how to get a good grade. I would say as long as everything is turned in on time the class should be super easy.
Very easy grader and very simple class. Lots of reading to do that you must be prepared for and to discuss the next class period. Not many grades and he usually does not fail anyone if you put in the effort. Take him for Brit Lit!
Had him at UTA and he was cool. Assignments were pretty straightforward, but he left good feedback for peer review conferences. Fairly easy grader as long as you actually try.
Took this class online which is a nightmare. The professor has reached out 1 time, so there's clearly a lack of communication there. Meetings are required but tech errors easily arrive. Doesn't send out reminders even though discussion boards seem like they pop out of nowhere. I cannot wait til this class is over, so messy.
Professor Stephens loves gossiping and just daily chit-chats with his students. He's very open about his personal life and his political views, which I don't mind, but others might. He does give "pop quizzes," but he always gives LITERALLY a week notice, and reminders every class. Do your assignments. It's like ONE per week, easy pass.
One class he spent over half of class talking about poisonous snakes. He gets sidetracked a lot, and for the first 20-30 min of class he encourages students to distract him so they "don't have to learn." A lot of the assignments were completion grades, and the research project was pretty easy. He will answer pretty much any question a student has.
I don't understand most of these reviews to be honest. He was an easy grader with an expected amount of work for a college class. Those who fail it are genuinely just not applying themself or even attempting. If you do the work and follow the rubric its easy. Only annoying part was group projects but just put airpods in and get the work done 7.5/10
One of the best classes I've ever taken. Professor Stephens is so much fun, and he makes his classes so interesting. I'm constantly captivated by his lectures and the stories he has us read are very entertaining.
I learned so much content from this man, and on top of that I was able to finally understand the structural aspects of the essays in the course. His way of explaining, breaking down, the essays was the best way I could possibly learn them! He is the best teacher I have had! P.S. I took his class at UTA by the way...
Overall this class was good, but sometimes he assumes many things are general knowledge or common sense when they aren't. Also, during the first few weeks of class he brings up sex an uncomfortable amount of time, and its jarring because he brings up politics (with profanity) fairly often. The reading is a lot, but most stuff is completion grades.
Calm luh class
The workload in this class is a completion grade essay a couple times a month, he also gives really good feedback to get a good grade on other assignments. Not afraid to speak his mind, but is still respectful in everything he says. He is a funny professor and rarely counts off late points.
I enjoyed my Brit Lit section with Mr. Stephens. Mr. Stephens allows his students free thought of mind when lecturing. I remained engaged in his class because we were able to talk about real topics that went with our readings. I would suggest Mr. Stephens to anyone who has a work ethic to succeed but is ready to put in time to read and learn.
I actually learned so much more from Professor Stephens than any other teacher I've had. He doesn't have a filter but that makes class ten times more fun. Reading sucks but oh well that's what I signed up for so not really a complaint. Cares about his students and actually makes class more engaging. Really chill overall.
Professor Stephens is a great professor. I've learned the most from being in his class and have chosen him for four semesters now. Definitely challenges your thinking in a positive way. Learn about more to life than just the class subject.
Took an online class and it was terrible. Most of the readings weren't in the textbook. Can't get ahold of him.. AT ALL. Never grades anything until weeks later. No feedback on any assignment, including essays. The material is all over the place, and not clear at all. He doesn't make announcements. An unreasonably absent teacher all around.
He was a great professor and he discuss topics that no one else will! He creates bonds with the students and truly seems to love to teach.
I highly recommend this professor, even though some of the work is a little difficult.(This is only because of some of the poems) He is honestly amazing, and he helps you comprehend the readings on different level, which I love.
Professor Stephens is one of the best professors I have ever had. He is overflowing with knowledge and his classes and assignments are always interesting.
I loved this class! I only had him for a semester but if I could I would take his class again! He is super funny and we have a lot of in depth discussions.
His bald head was the light of my semester. His smile was the warmth of the Sun wrapping around trees of flesh. Acorns fall, Ronnie does not. Ships sink, Ronnie rises like the dough of Pizza Hut's cheesy stuffed crust pizza. Fortresses were made, and fell as the description was worth more than any that came before
My favorite part about his class is the discussions we have within his lectures. He loves to answer any questions you have both about the texts y'all are reading or just about art and writing in general. As a result not only have I gained a deeper appreciation of poetry, but have also had many great conversations over what makes good art.
I enjoyed very single one of his lectures, especially about works by people like Sylvia Plath because he is incredibly knowledgable about what he's teaching and can essentially answer almost ANY question we have. Some lectures were about boring literature but he doesn't care if you don't pay attention all too much. Would take this class for fun.
The book projects are great.
He is a great proffessor. It is very clear that he is passionate about what he is teaching. His discussions go very in depth about the topic and he goes over any material that students found more difficult to understand. This was an amazing class and I would definitely take it again.
Professor Stephens is a great professor! He is caring, funny, and very informative. I learned a lot from this class while still having fun.
The class is very reading-intensive and he has a strong personality. However, he was friendly and accommodating to the students who put in any effort. He always ensured effort and participation were reflected in students' grades. Just don't bring Starbucks to class or you will be bullied lol.
I, Fortunato, was lured into the class by someone who praised his knowledge and humor. They were very correct. When the world ends and I find myself in a post-apocalyptic world, whoever ends up bunkering with me will be blessed by my intricate rambles about the appreciation of poetry and the special love between Plath and catastrophic awareness.
Professor Stephens is hands down one of the coolest professors I've ever had. Buckle up, because this dude loves his readings. He picks stuff that gets you thinking, and trust me, it's worth it. In short, if you want a professor who'll keep you entertained, give killer feedback, go sign up for one of Professor Stephens' classes.
This professor makes class entertaining and keeps students engaged.
Professor Stephens teaches by going over poems with the class and telling us what we think of his poems. He conveys his material clearly, so I did not feel clouded by uncertainty regarding his assignments.
Mr , Stephens ( Soon to be Dr) is a really engaging and fun teacher. He makes dull things like poetry fun and easy to understand by going over them in class helping the students with any doubts they might have. 10/10 would take this course again.
Mr. Stephens is a very charismatic, and humorous teacher who is very understanding towards his students when it comes to the work he assigns. He's very helpful when it comes to not understanding something and he'll usually break it down enough to wear you'll be able to understand what you're confused about after he explains it. 10/10 teacher for me
Ronnie Stephens is the best TCC professor at Lake Ridge High School! He is very clear in his instructions, and his lectures encourage us to dig deeper in why we believe what we do. He has introduced our class to so many great poets and authors, and he always has captivating lectures. You will not be bored or disappointed in his class.
The teacher being readily available at almost all points during the class, able to clarify any confusions students may have made it very easy to navigate assignments and content in the class.
I had a great time in this class! I would recommend to anyone who is looking to take this class.
Professor Stephens is overall the best English teacher I have had. He makes learning fun, and is easy to talk to. Overall I would rate a 10/10, and would definitely recommend.
Took this professor for English Composition and it was super fun! Would take again 10/10
Professor Stephens' teaching style is very conversational and relies mainly on engagement with all of the students. His way to convey the material is very unique, but fairly effective. To an extent, it's almost like you're learning sort of without knowing it. This helps the material feel more applicable and tangible.
For me, I don't enjoy typical classes where you have to read out of text books and do assignments. However, In this English class we mainly discussed and debated about literature for almost the entire class. I enjoyed hearing other students' and my professors thoughts. If you enjoy a class with a lot of discussion, this class may be for you.
This professor gives helpful, in depth discussion for each class meeting to ensure students understand what they are supposed to be learning. Assignments and quizzes arent too hard if you do the required reading. Would take again!
Reading is essential in order to do well on the midterm, final, and quizzes. His class is very engaging and fun and I would absolutely take him again.
He grades things very slow so don't panic if you have a failing grade for like 3 weeks because it'll always come back up.
Professor Stephens is the best TCC professor! He appreciates participation during class discussions. Usually he will warn us of a quiz but if we aren't discussing the readings he will give us a pop quiz . He is an easy grader and most of the assignments are completion grades. I definitely recommend taking British Literature with Professor Stephens!
Very knowledgeable teacher and is a human search engine. Class helped me expand my knowledge. Easy class if you participate and allows students to express themselves. Very authentic teacher
He is very intelligent, this class taught me so many things about the classics of literature. I liked his teaching style because it is something that will stuck with me as I go on. Make sure to pay attention and actually contribute to the class discussions and I promise you'll be fine!
Stephens class is very lecture heavy and very in depth. He is a great professor who has an excellent understanding of the material he assigns of reading , and of the timer periods that we talk about in British literature. He is great at explaining the material and allowing his students to have the same understanding.
He was a very knowledgeable professor and knows many things and overlap with our lectures. A lot of work is done by class lead discussions. Very rare to see students not participating. If it is clear that readings haven't been done then he may pop quiz the class. You will 1000% learn something new each day. Most understanding person!! great person
His teaching is very open mind and very well if you want to have a good time while learning it is a amazing teacher.
Really easy grader so that's super nice. You will have lots of class discussions and it's very important that you always do the readings. They're usually lengthy so it's hard to get it all done on time.
He took a long time to grade assignments and reply to emails, but overall was a good professor. He gave clear instructions and graded fairly. He had long word counts but only three essays. Usually had two assignments per week (a discussion board and a written assignment), except for essay weeks. On those weeks only the essay was due.
AS long as you read the assigned text and do your assignments in a timely matter you are good. He is kind and respectful all you really need to do is stay engaged he is really fun.
This professor is great at stating his opinions. Make sure you read because if you don't read he will give you hard quiz's so just make sure you participate and talk in class. In brit lit you read more than write
He is a great professor! He is passionate about teaching and will answer any questions you have on the material. He cares about participation in class discussions about the assigned readings, so it is important to complete the readings.
If you're willing to read a bunch, then take this course, I'd say it's worth it given how hard it is to fail it.
He is a very chill professor, and has a nice teaching method and I find it effective. because I am able to remember things through the discussion. We have little homework, but reading is important in that class because you will need to include them in your final exam when writing. Overall I enjoyed the class.
During my time with this professor, I greatly enjoyed it. He engaged with the students and actually acted interested in his students. My only issue was the way the assignments were written; there were times where I was a bit confused by the wording but other than that, he was a great professor! I highly recommend him.
Amazing and engaging professor.
I like this professor because he is very engaging with his students, but participation is key. Overall, this isn't a very difficult class as long as you do the work.
I think Professr Ronnie was a great professor. I am very glad that I had him for one of my first college professors. He has been very understanding about late work, and is very kind to all his students.
Great professor! He keeps you on your toes but also makes it engaging and enjoyable.
He has a very good teaching style and he's good at helping you understand the material. He's a super chill guy and his class was fun.
Got along with students easily.
very good professor! not hard at all
He is a very fun teacher that I highly recommend. Not only are his lectures short and sweet, the homework isn't very bad. There is a lot of writing but at least for me, it wasn't all bad just as long as you get things done you'll be just fine. He doesn't breathe down your neck about anything, he's very laid back/funny and allows you to work.
Dr. Ronnie Stephens is a very opinionated guy, but he keeps it respectful and makes sure not to cross the line when discussing things with students. He's not difficult to work with and he's welcoming and doesn't make us feel scared to ask questions.
His material was very useful and I believe i'll be able to carry it on to my future career. He always made an effort to include the class in conversations and was very adamant that we engaged in conversation. Something I appreciated was how he told us about himself, he also stressed the importance of mental health and that we are okay.
He's very kind and funny and also is helpful when describing material.
Mr.Stephens was a very knowledgeable teacher, he grades fairly and makes really good cookies. Participating in discussions is sort of mandatory, but I really liked the discussions they were so fun.
As long as your participating and your part of the discussion even if you are confused you're going to do well in the course. He is very transparent about what needs to be done and is willing to help. He's also low-key funny.
I truly enjoyed Dr. Ronnie's English Composition 1 class. Despite having an essay due every Sunday, attending the class was genuinely a joy. He fostered a safe and comforting environment, sharing his thoughts and beliefs with maturity. I deeply appreciated this, even though our views most of the time conflicted with each other. It was refreshing.
This teacher is one of those teachers where he is one of a kind and you should not take him for granted. You will love his class discussion, which is not graded, and he uses his discussion and incorporates it into his lecture. Overall, I am really sad I am leaving his class next semester for a new professor, but I hope your experience is as good.
He prefers to be only called by Ronnie. This class was easy but the book project was boring; easy grades, as long as you talk about taylor swift ur good! But if ur republican he will not like you and u might not enjoy his discussions. Otherwise he's a chill liberal. compared to other professors, i would suggest him!
Professor sucks!reviews gotta be fake. talks a lot about girl power & Taylor Swift. he's a poem fanatic, will have you read poems that HE likes, doesn't give feedback! & everything is hand written(6 pagers)no real teaching going on, don't waste your $ on him. puts in grades after drop date if u fail u fail. gives u topic 48hrs b4 test, very unclear
Class is often directed toward personal opinions, off-topic commentary, and even gossip, rather than course content. The class frequently strays from the college's official course description, making it difficult to focus on actual learning. If you're looking for a structured and academically driven environment, this may not be the best fit.
Professor Stephens is one of the best professors I have had in my academic career. The classes he teaches rely on diligent reading and discussion with a HEAVY emphasis on discussion. That aside Professor Stephens is BIG on having students read works full of ethos and pathos. 10/10 would take this class again.
He's a very vocal and opinionated professor but very funny and understanding.
You're going to need to read and have basic knowledge of MLA9 and essay writing. You'll also need to be prepared to be consistently reading ahead and talking about the subjects in class. For some people that may be difficult, but if you want a challenge, and if you want to learn I would recommend this class.
Professor Stephen's class is not hard. His expectations of his students are high, and I respect that. He pushes you to go beyond the surface of the material and he gives you the tools and resources to do so.
He is a really cool professor.
When I come into this class we talk about things that make me feel educated. We talk about real world things that I didn't even know about because no one talks about them. Any assignments that were given were easy and enjoyable. As well as the readings we were given.
Will go over touchy subjects so if you feel uncomfortable, it won't be the last time lol.
He was overall a great professor my only issue was with his classroom management, the class can get very rowdy with people just yelling at each other.
Professor Ronnie, was very kind all throughout the course and he was very respectful. The way he graded wasn't difficult to understand and he always left feedback after reading essays. He was easy to talk to and was very friendly.
The professor was amicable and gave engaging lessons that connected to things that actually felt important. I liked this class a lot and I would take it again.
He is really good at what he's doing
Don't take this course if you're just looking for an easy completion!! Dr. Stephens pushes you to truly engage with and respect literature. Pace yourself, ASK QUESTIONS, be present physically AND mentally. What I've learned will stick with me forever, which is what a college course is supposed to do!!! He's become one of my favourite professors.
Be prepared to read, engage in group disussions, and participate. Some assignments are a bit dense, but Dr. Stephens provides clear instructions on what he expects, offers examples, and allows ample time to complete the assignment. This class will push you to practice close reading and write a proper essay.
Great professor who cares about your well-being. Opens with 10-15 min free discussion to help us get comfortable before the lessons. Focus on analyzing texts, but also incorporates music and poetry. He does take some time to grade, but he warns you first day. Overall, pretty chill guy, and baked us cookies before finals that was for sure a plus! :)
Overall good professor, pushes you to read as many are loosing the skill.
This guys is funny asl, and he gives u so much time to do your work his final was easy you just got to lock in the same with his midterm and his essay worth 40 percent of your grade but he tuff trust. This mean really was a good professor he w.
Not the best professor, material is LBGTQ+ heavy. Grading metrics seem to be wonky and all over the place also. Funny guy but would not recommend taking him if it can be helped.
