Best professor I have ever had, hands down. Quite possibly the smartest man alive.
Take him if you get a chance! Extremely smart and funny guy, great at explaining things! Makes a potentially boring subject as interesting as he can! Very helpful and willing to work with students/answer questions. One of the best profs I've had.
great prof. he goes over material well. Go to class and youll get a good grade. If your in the field he has a Muscle bio Research group. i am in it and its a blast
Best professors I have ever had
This man is probably the most capable person at this subject on the face of the earth. He made sure that everything was clear before moving on, helped anyone out when they needed it, and made the material interesting. Make an effort to get this professor.
Roop is a great guy and knows what he's talking about. Maybe a little too much for an undergraduate course. Loves work phys and is always there to help.
great guy but grades way too hard for material
This is a very difficult course. There is a wide variety of areas covered, and much depth on each. However, Roop is definitely the best professor for this course. He explains everything in great detail, and is here to help you. He will make this class much easier for you.
Hard class but he was very helpful! Sign up for his office hours!!!
Doesn't do anything to help students learn. I went to office hours, extra classes and was basically made to feel stupid bc "it's not rocket science." Knows there are no prereqs for the class, yet teaches as though students have had anatomy, physiology, medical terminology. Says he bases some part of grade on attendance, but didn't give me even 1%.
class says you dont need preqs but class terminalogy is expected. roop acts like he cares bt when you asks question makes you feel stupid, says attendence quiz's matter but they dont! i took everyone and it didnt help. to indepth for the variety of material. It sucks its not offered with a differnt professor!!!!
Awesome professor but I am amazed at how stupid some of the other students are. God knows that are not going to be rocket scientist.
Great class but as a Masters student I have already taken anatomy and physiology. I dont know why you would be in a graduate level course in HSC without taken A&P or med term. For the students having trouble in the class...maybe you should have spent more time in undergrad taking decent classes instead of basket weaving or ballroom dancing
He is extremely helpful! Although he does not take attendance, I'd say class is mandatory b/c of all the material he goes through in one day. He outlines notes for you prior to class, he'll make web videos to help you study -he is the best! If you do what he asks and do your best there is no way you can't pass this class! He makes studying easy :)
Take him if you get a chance! Extremely smart and funny guy, great at explaining things! Makes a potentially boring subject as interesting as he can! Very helpful and willing to work with students/answer questions. One of the best profs I've had. Be prepared to study a lot to get an A in this class.
I loved this class and I wish all of my professors were like Dr.J. He has such enthusiasm for the subject and tries very hard to make every student pass the class. He is wonderful and everyone should get the chance to experience his teaching style. It helped me so much =)
Great teacher, easy class if you study. If you have a high interest in Anatomy, you will do just fine.
What a great professor! Very enthusiastic about the subject and always has his students' success in mind. This was my first anatomy class and I'm so glad that Dr. J was my instructor - the class was both interesting and fun. Take him if you get the chance!
awesome prof! very helpful and makes class enjoyable. one of few profs i've had that actually wants their students to succeed and does all he can to make that possible. take his class!
He is wonderful! Loves to help his students learn to the best of their abilities, enjoys teaching the subject, and is very helpful. It's totally worth taking his class and getting experience from a great professor. Read the material, do the study guides, and go over things a little each night and you'll do great on the exams.
one of the best profs i've had at central! the material is hard and covers A LOT, but dr. j genuinely cares about his students success, and you can tell he loves what he does. he also records all his lectures in case you miss class. if you have to take this class, take it with him!
DR J is an awesome guy. He actually cares about how his students do. His tests are fair. They actually cover what he goes over with the notes. That doesn't mean easy. The course is hard but DR J tries his best to make it easier.
Dr.J works his hardest to make sure you as a student get the grade you want. That doesn't mean he will hand it to you, he makes you earn every point but he is willing to help you along the entire way. I wish all professors had the same passion about their class as he does for his.
Dr. J is a nice guy but that is about the only praise I can give the man. This class was WAY too hard for a UP class. especially one with no pre reqs. He goes way to fast and wants you to know the tiniest specs of info. Unless you love anatomy find something else
His exams were VERY difficult, even after reading, group studying, and taking his online quizzes. He worded his questions difficultly and went through the content faster than my brain could handle. He is a nice guy and worked with the class but I just couldn't learn from his style of teaching.
Dr. Jay had a somewhat boring lecturing style. It was a bit hard to pay attention in class but you won't get far in the class unless you go to class and take the online quizzes. The exams were very easy as long as you study for them.
I found him to be very rude and self absorbed. His exams are difficult to study for, and his lecture style is too fast, but not interesting enough to pay attention. Would not recommend him.
I did not take anatomy in high school therefore the class was pretty difficult for me. Hardly used the book, basically just something else to study from. Jayaraman did a good job explaining things in detail, but his exams were pretty tough.
A great professor. Is very understanding and willing to help. Explains material well
This class was difficult, but only because there was so much information that had to be covered. I believe Roop did a great job with lectures and was always enthusiastic in class. His tests could be difficult, but if you spend time to actually study and understand the material you will do fine.
Very good professor. This is a hard class but Dr. J explained the material well and really helped me understand it. He's always available to meet up for office hours and seems to care a lot about his students. I highly recommend him!
This is not a UP class to take for slacking off, this a UP class to take if you want knowledge about the human body! He gives you guided notes to use in class, and you don't have to show up, but he will learn your name quickly if you do, and he gives random extra credit too in class.
Pro. J is brilliant; his work as a scholar is truly fascinating and there is o doubt that he knows his field inside and out (no pun intended). Very willing to accommodate students and meet and give extra work/help - the class I tough and he makes you EARN every point. I had a tough time w/ the class but by no means as a reflection on his efforts.
I had Dr. J for about a month before he got sick and we were left with the horrible Dr. DeSantis. Dr. J was awesome - very knowledgeable and personable. He was excited about teaching the material, and helping students succeed. I wish I could've had him the entire semester, the class is hell without him teaching.
He's the man. Old school but he's about respect, period. Exactly how it should be. Its typically a hard class and the teacher is not to blame for failure in this case. He gives you all the tools, you have to use them. You will get what you put in, so go to class, fill out the notes and just PUT EFFORT INTO IT.
Dr. J is a great professor. He respects the students a lot and does his best to help you pass. However, you have to really study hard for the class and not lag behind. It is a difficult class, but if you have to take it, take it with Dr, J!
Professor Jay is very interested in what he does and actually cares about the students. GO TO CLASS, if you miss a day and do not have someone to help you with the notes the class will be hard. SI sessions were provided and it was very beneficial. Overall, it is a hard class but study when you can and you should be good.
He's a great teacher! But the class is tough, so make sure you do the quizzes! They help a lot with the exams. Make sure you know the notes and concepts from quizzes and you'll be fine. Dr. Jayaraman is more than willing to help and he's a very nice guy! He's very passionate about the subject. I advise taking it with him!
Dr. Jayaraman was amazing! I loved his class! There is so much information covered in his course so going to class is a must. He is very passionate which makes all the topics interesting. Covers all necessary info in his lectures. Print out notes ahead of time so you can add where you need for clarity. Pulls questions right from notes. Great class.
An amazing professor, by far the best teacher I have had in all my years of schooling. He genuinely cares about his students and is willing to go out of his way to see to it the class does their best. This is a professor who truly loves his job and you can tell right away by the way he treats his students and runs his class & he gives amazing notes
The lectures are long, but he keeps you very interested
Easy class considering its an entry level course, just expect long and sometimes boring lectures. Read the textbook, do the post lab quizzes, and read over the lectures notes and it is an easy class to pass.
I normally get pretty good grades but ended with a C- in this class. Professor Jayaraman is an interesting/funny man when he lectures but he does tend to refer to sports medicine a lot in this course when that doesn't apply to the exams at all. The material is very hard, but if you are willing to put in the time and effort it is possible.
This class was hard. The lectures were not helpful and I felt blindsided when I went into the tests. He also was not helpful in office hours at all. This class went into so much detail for an entry level class and that made it super hard. There are papers due every so often and quizzes after lectures online.
Best professor I've had at CMU! Genuinely cares about all of his students. Don't skip class because his exams are based off of the notes taken in lecture! Study in advance for exams & it shouldn't be too bad.
He lectures a lot and sometimes waste time with announcements, but if you go to lecture and take the note you won't pass, you need to put in the extra effort in order to get an A in this class.
Easy class! You only need to show up on exam days. Its all through a computer program. I was terrified as I had heard horrible things about this course before the computer program but it was super easy! Study the words on the assignments and you'll be set.
Notes are fill-in, need to be present to get them. Very hard class. Lots of memorization and studying required. Jayaraman is a good professor. Gets to the point and is a good lecturer.
I swear if I did not have Dr. Jay for HSC211, I definitely would not have passed. He is super clear about all the material he presents and there are no surprises at all on tests or other grading criteria. I'm not going to lie, A&P is hard, but with Dr. Jay it is so much easier. He really does care for all his students!
This class was different. You only go to class on exam day, other then that all the assignments, notes/reading, and quizzes are done online. If you take the time and utilize the software available you will do well. Do not procrastinate. Also don't be afraid to email him and ask questions.
Dr. Jayaraman is one of the best professors I have ever had at CMU. He tells on the first day of class, "if you take an easy A&P class, you are wasting your money". A&P is extremely difficult with learning all the new terms but with this professor he wants you to succeed only if you aren't lazy. Just put the time in and it will be fine.
This class is no joke. But if you put in the work and do all of the homework you will have no lower than a B- The exams are tough but if you do the homework and online quizzes you'll be fine. He really cares about his students and is passionate about the topic. HIGHLY recommend! The homework takes me about 1 hour and 30 minutes TOPS.
He is an amazing prof and is always looking for ways to improve his teaching. Attendance not mandatory, but you could receive extra credit for going if not many people show up that day. Put in the work to study, and you'll be fine. A&P isn't easy, but with his as your prof and if you use resources, you will be successful. DO THE WORK
He is one of the best professors I have had at CMU. He really cares about the topic and what you learn. He teaches based on the homework assignments you do the night before; he takes more time on the things that students struggle with. Don't wait until the last minute to study for exams, take your time and you will do good.
He is amazing one of the best professors I have ever had! he helps you when you need it and he truly cares about his students. His tests can be tricky but GO TALK TO HIM it truly helps
This is a hybrid class, which means you only show up for exams. The grade you get really relies on you. As long as you are willing to read the chapters, and do the assignments and quizzes you'll do fine. My advice would be to study the spelling quizzes and the chapter quizzes. You'll be set. Easy A.
Dr. Jayaraman is one of the most caring professors you will take at CMU. The class is formatted weird where you only go in to take exams; the rest of the work is done online which makes it convenient. The material isn't difficult, but the way he weights the final grade makes it difficult. Do your work and study for the exams and you will do fine.
AMAZING!! This guy really wants you to do well in his class and he gives you everything you need to succeed. You will have to put in extra work to get an A, I mean.. A&P isn't supposed to be easy but he is there to help you and he happily will. Makes lectures as interesting as possible and really a great guy all around.
Roop is amazing. The class is hard AF if you don't study. I studied the online stuff EVERY night and passed the class with a 97% so it is possible to do good if you study. Class averages on all 3 exams were below a 70% so that shows you how much you need to study. Lectures are related to real-life applications so it is more interesting.
I literally created an account just to review Dr. Jay. He is by far the best professor/teacher I've ever had in my years of schooling. He curves his exam based on the performance of the class and gives credit to students for questions that did poorly on all exams. He is the most caring professor I've encountered. The class is difficult, but doable.
For HSC 201, you won't see Roop Jayaraman that often since it is a hybrid class. This means that all class content is done online minus exams which are taken in class. He is very nice and will keep in touch with emails. There is a lot of content for this class so it is important to stay on top. Plus keep track of grades since it is weighted.
Dr. J is by far the best professor at CMU. He is caring and intelligent with an exceptional knack for educating individuals. I have assisted with teaching his 211 course and can't say enough good things about him. It is hard if you don't show up or study, but is manageable. If you have a chance to even speak with him, do it. You'll be happy you did
This is a hybrid class, so there are no in class lectures. With that being said, he is still very accessible and gives great feedback on how everyone is doing in the class and how you can do better. Exams are easy if you study the online quizzes.
He's a really nice guy, but the class was a downer because there was so much to cover in such a short time. He gives out guided notes so if you go to class and take the notes, you'll basically know what is on the test. Online quizzes are a big part of your grade and he's ok with you using your book and the internet to cheat, so do it!
Love Dr. Jayaman. Hes an amazing professor and makes the heavy material worth coming to class. Hes very enthusiastic and it helps keep you interested. A lot of online homework but to be expected with the amount of material that is needed to learn.
201 was a pretty easy class IMO, got it done 4 weeks earlier than the 15 weeks it was supposed to take to finish the course. Study the quizzes and you'll be fine. Roop is a pretty chill guy.
Worst Professor I've ever had. All he did the whole semester was read off of PowerPoint slides. For the final he said he didn't want to cause test fatigue so he was making it "only" 150 questions, like are you serious? Has no idea how to explain things in simple terms to undergrad students and goes way into depth of theings that aren't on tests.
Great guy, not the best prof. doesn't give study guides for any exams. all assignments are quiz grades, exams are worth almost half of the final grade. Very frustrating if your not a good test taker like I am. Failed the class.
Roop is a great professor! Although he goes off on a little of clinical tangents, he means well. Attend lecture because he gives you couple of extra credit points. If you put the work in by going to class and going to SI sessions, this class will get easier. Anatomy and physiology is hard to begin with, but you're given the right materials.
Roops class was difficult but if you do the homeworks and keep up on the quizzes youll be fine. The biggest thing is not fall mine behind because there is a lot of work. But he gives you all the answers, its up to you to apply them.
For a professor who doesn't even teach the course,, he does make you work really hard for the class. Everything for Medical Terminology is on "Connect" which is an online course. I would recommend taking medical terminology back at your community college because this professor ain't it.
He is a great guy and was super understanding when I missed some homework assignments, but his tests are super hard. 150 questions in 75 minutes ??? Also because I took it online he actually made the quizzes proctored so we couldnt look anything up like other classes could. I worked my ass off and got a C.
A great Professor but a tough class!!
HSC201 is a great class, lots of material but a great professor! very helpful
This class was online so you teach yourself everything. The professor never taught a single lecture and was never seen during the whole semester, except for a few pre-recorded videos at the beginning. Prepare to take a lot of time out of the beginning of the week to read and do the assignments due on Wednesday. No extra credit either.
super sweet guy. straightforward directions, you use a software for the whole class which i thought was easy to use/efficient. he responds fast and cares about his students. you can do all the assignments before theyre due too and get ahead. i thought this class was useful for kinesiology.
hw heavy, 2 assignments due during the week, self assessments due fridays, quizzes due sundays. did not allow laptops in class, had to print out notes which was fine but wasted a lot of paper. lecture attendence is important but is possible to pass without going if you dont plan to use your notes. he is a great man/teacher. very nice
I had his class during the summer and it was horrible. He gave a lot of assignments with a lot of question more than once. He even gave 3 exams with 170+ questions with only 2 hours. Also the proctored platform he used was unnecessary and sensitive. His class was easy but gave off the impression that he had nothing else better to do.
He is a very patient teacher! I had issues getting into the course on time (it was a summer course), so I came in a week late. He unlocked material for me and gave me time to catch up and was very easy to get into contact with! He is a very nice guy and friendly!
I was surprised to see his rating so high. You do the homework before he teaches you the topic and then he teaches areas that most students struggled with. You do a lot of homework, but it's worth very little points.
I enjoyed Dr. Jayaraman's class, I think he presented the material pretty straight forward. With that being said there was a lot of things in the quizzes that was only brought up briefly during the lecture apart from his slideshow. Don't skip if you don't have to because you will fall behind. The class is also very fast paced. I enjoyed the class.
Not the easiest class but Prof Jayaraman makes grading, homework, overall standards very clear and if you follow his recommendations when it comes to studying, homework assignments, lectures, etc you'll do just fine.
Took him for HSC 201 and overall pretty easy. His grading is very clear and class structure is organized well. Med term can be difficult but this class was pretty straight forward - would recommend for an easy A!
Online class so you barely interact with him but everything is set up very clearly with the online system so there are no surprises.
this class was one of my first online classes and it was very easy. if you do your work and read the chapters you should pass with flying colors. he was also very understanding if you had a valid reason for missing anything. overall great class.
First online class I've taken. Weekly SmartBook assignments and quizzes with 3 exams. Nothing cumulative. Clear expectations for the class
awesome easy going guy. I complete all of my assignments on time typically and the one time I forgot to submit one he allowed me another day. very understanding. tells u the class average and stats on each quiz which is nice. if you get a good grade he emails you about how well you're doing. highly reccomend easy class
this class isnt crazy hard but it definitely takes some work. it includes 2 assignments and a quiz weekly. i definitely encourage taking the practice quizzes before the real one because the questions on there are word for word the same ones on the quiz. Jayaraman is always super responsive to emails which is really nice incase you ever have issues
This is a hard class but professor Jayaraman is truly an amazing man. If you are going into health professions he is a great professor to take.
Dr. Jayaraman was a great professor. He outlined everything needed to pass the class, from clear grading criteria to cut and clear assignments. Dr. Jayaramen was also very caring, reaching out to students individually about their standing in the class and how to increase their grades; also very accessible outside of class.
I was very nervous for this course because I am not a big science person. But he made it so entertaining and easy to follow. I would highly recommend using the resources and study modes that were provided for this course. He was also great at answering questions and giving further explanation. 10/10 would recommend!!!!
I'm not even an HP student but I love his class. He's willing to help. There are two assignments a week plus a quiz or two due every Sunday. All quizzes and exams are online with a lockdown browser. Do the readings, do the smartbook, do the practice quizzes, and you'll be fine. Does give extra credit questions when there are a lot of people absent
I thought his class would be hard but it's not bad at all. Definitely one of my favorite classes I have taken and his lectures are so easy to pay attention to. He cares for his students and gets to know everyone. If you do the homework assignments and study for the quizzes/exams you will pass.
I think that Dr. Roop is amazing. I'm not the type that loves going to classes just because of my short extension plan but he makes the class so entertaining and makes you feel involved no matter what he loves him people participate and ask questions. He is super understanding and easy to talk to.
