very helpfull and approachable and nice. got an A just studying a decent amount and stopping by her office to ask a couple of questions.

Most of the stuff you learn towards the end of the course is just HARD and POINTLESS. The assignment book is the poorest book ever written (written by Rory DeSimone). Assignments are full of corrections and mistakes. Course is very poorly structured!
This class is a wolf in sheep's clothing. Too much pointless work, and the tests are monsters!
Not too bad. I got a B and almost never went to class. Just make sure to go to the reviews before the tests, they help a lot.
i agree with everyone else, the class is pointless, the assignments take way too long and the instructions for them have mistakes..and the tests, u have to know pointless information that you wil never again use in your life
This was truly horrible. I hated it.
Fairly easy A. A lot of work, but the tests aren't bad at all if you go to class and take notes. lots of extra credit (to make up for the confusing and LONG assignments). overall it was a bit confusing but kinda easy... don't want to do it again though.
The assignments are long but you almost always get a good grade if you try. Tests are very hard no matter how much you study. Go to the reviews they help a lot.

This class was definitely more difficult than I thought it was going to be. Not useless though, I find myself many times wishing I still had my cheat sheets for when I am working. Still, very long assignments (But okay if you follow CLOSELY)

If you go to class and pay attention, then it's an easy A...The assignments are long and boring, but if you try you'll get a good grade...just don't slack off in this class and you'll be fine. make DETAILED crib sheets for the exams though they help a lot
Worst class ever, Hard work, tedious, and utterly pointless. A computer class, yet, neither the quizzes nor tests are taken on computers. I would only need to know the things from this class if I were going to be technical support for Dell.
class was a joke. .but if you lie to desimone you will get whatever you want. do not go to the ta's because they follow the rules; i went above them and lied to desimone and turned in assig.4 late when i was supposed to get a 0! she's SOOO gullible! HAHA!

Only take CGS2531 if you must for your major, and even then seriously consider switching majors. There is a fair amount of useful information but it is compounded with so much useless, tedious, who-the-hell-CARES bullcrap it is really not worth it.
Easy? Yep. Boring? Yep. It took about 8, 6, 14 hrs to do assignment 1, 2, 3 respectively. Start your assignments early! otherwise you are gonna have to stay at the arch. lab all night long. finish 'em early, go to at least 3 diff. TAs and ask 'em if your assignment is perfect.haha
DeSimone is the best. Class is boring but DeSimone is great.
Worst class ever. I used to own my own small computer business but you better believe that didnt help me. Tests are ridiculous and basically try to trick you and ****you off (except #3). Grade is based much on who grades your assignments, and this is TOTALLY arbitrary. RUN NOW!
A truly excellent class. It is sufficiently challenging at times, but only a complete fool (particularly the fascinating specimen who "used to own his own small computer business") could get lower than a B. You will learn or become comfortable with various applications, which was very helpful.
I actually liked her when I had her for CGS, so I decided to take the next class, CEN3534. This was a huge mistake. This class is so much harder. She tries to make it sound like fun, but it's not. DO NOT TAKE THIS ELECTIVE!!!! YOU WILL REGRET IT!
Took it in FALL 2004. She is the one of the nicest teacher. Though her class maybe boring at times, it not her that's boring, just the material. Help is always available whenever she is in the office. Such a nice lady. Just go to class.....very time consuming though.
This class totally blows. Desimone thinks that students should know all of the menus by complete memorization. The projects are too time consuming and the directions are very unclear and graded very tough. Tests are so hard you are allowed to have a full page cheat sheet. Don't bank on getting an A.
The hmwk book she wrote sucks, very unclear and the exams are ridculous, need to know every single way of doing things, ex. copying you need to know short cut, menu, mouse etc. exams are tedious and tricky. Not around when students need help. As coordinator she left classes b4 end of semester.
This class is so easy if you just go to lecture and pay attention. Exams are hard, but you can have a crib sheet. make sure you allow pleny to time to do the assignments!! easy A and she's a fair lady. don't underestimate this class though... it requires a lot of work to get an A.
This was one of the easiest classes I've ever taken. She was so helpful all the time and was very relaxed about turning stuff in. Definietly one of my favorite instructors
She is not very good at telling you what to study for the tests, which are a little harder than they should be, in my opinion. The manual is very vague at times, but you can get through it. Overall, not that bad of a class, wish I would have studied more for the tests.
Doesn't care at all about her class. They use a broke-ass CD that nobody ever tested, and "require" books that as far as I can tell are usetless (used for tiny extra credits only). Enforces rules as it suits her, my friend was allowed to redo her assignment for points and I was not (same exact excuse). Course is run in very disorganized manner.
This class has a rep about being very hard but its not. Its very simple, GO TO CLASS! youd be surprised what you can miss in one lecture. She may seem a bit tedious on what she teaches but you get a crib sheet on the tests, use them! Do the assignments, dont buy the load of books,just the main one. Do the cd quizzes! Easy A if you just GO TO CLASS!
I "had" to spent $70 on the "required" textbook. Never used it. I also "had" to spend another $70 on the CD software which also amazingly had the directions to my assignments in it. Without them I would fail the course. How awful is that? Give me money or you fail?! I think anyone who SELLS directions for their assignments is just horrible.
Horrible class. None of the books are needed except the CD. The asignments don't always make sense so you have to guess at them. Tests are way harder than they should be. De Simone is an awful teacher!!! The only reason I got an A was because I already knew the stuff she was supposed to teach.
MS office on steroids. Go to class, every review, and write as small as possible on your cheat sheet. The tests are almost logic based toward the end, and not factual.
Repeat after me-- GO TO CLASS. Dunno what some of these losers are complaining about. If you own a computer and have the oh-so-rare ability to use it, you'll be fine, but ONLY IF YOU ATTEND CLASS. Yes, the tests are challenging-- WELCOME TO COLLEGE. Just ask yourself: "Am I lazy?" If the answer is yes, you're screwed.
This class requires a lot of tedious work. Start the assignments early. Make a crib sheet for every quiz and every test. Go to class!!!! She's the best teacher for the course becuase she wrote the book and she writes the tests. You don't really need the text book, only the CD and assignment book.
This class is truly pointless. I wouldn't take it unless it was required of my major. So much busy work for things we already know. Tests purposefully try to trick the students. Going to class helps but good luck trying to put up with it!
ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE. DeSimone does not deserve to teach at UF, or any school for that matter. Pointless, useless class. Useless book. Doesn't respond to emails about TA's giving conflicting information. Gives unnecessarily difficult tests and busy work projects. Obviously doesn't expect TA's to speak English. Worst class I've ever taken.
This class wasn't hard at all. I don't know why everyone always says it is. I got an A, no sweat- just do your tutorials and study somewhat for the tests.

Hates people who try to have a life outside of school. If you are in a club or play sports expect to be treated like**** if you have to miss an exam. Incredibly full of herself.
Don't know too much about the teacher, but the class is the worst experience I've ever had. The tutorials are pure evil (the manual may as well be written in Sanskrit), and the tests are menial to the point of insanity. This class doesn't teach you how to use a computer; it teaches you how to question why you even go to school, despite the easy A.
The class itself teaches you some really good stuff. The teacher and the materials, on the other hand, are horrible. The professor basically makes fun of you when you ask a question. The tutorials are hard only because the manual is horribly written and contradicts itself. If you do the work, you'll be fine but get outside help.
Does anyone know anything about desimone and cen 3534? (Advanced Problem Solving Using Comp Software) Are the tests in a similar format, how are the projects, etc. I was considering taking it, thanks for the input in advance.
this is an easy b class but a hard a in my opinion unless you do well on the tests. the key is to pay attention to detail on the assignments becuase the points add up. take realllly good notes you'll be surprised how they help.- do not wait til the last minute to complete assignments they are a pain.
Rory was a wonderful teacher. I took this class the semester before I graduated. I learned so much from her. The final project was a challenge but I still apply everything I've learned in the real world. I know more about those programs than the 60 people I work with. I help everyone in my company with computer skills! take the class!
warning: do not buy the packet. you will need the software but the spiral book packet is USELESS, i never even opened mine. use that $50 to buy a new pair of jeans or something. other than that, its a challenging but educational class with info that you can use outside of the classroom.

this class was the biggest pain in my rear end. she was terrible. when i stayed up the whole night tryign to figure out her dumb CD QUIZ she patted me on the head and said i should have given up. she was insane and her cd and projects made little sense. good luck deciphering what she means... she isnt helpful either. good luck to you if you take it
Most useless class ever, don't take it if you don't have to for your major - it WILL NOT TEACH YOU COMPUTER SKILLS! Easy A, however, if you just go to class, take good notes, and prepare for tons of rote memorization of useless crap.
material was useless, basic stuff but she made it soo complicated. tests are too nitty gritty , you make errors really easily. tutorials are a waste of time, take days and days to complete.
Class was fine (I finally figured out Excel, which I need for work) and she was helpful. These other screw-ups have it all wrong. The class is pretty easy, but don't miss class (there's lots of stuff to cover and you won't have any idea what's going on if you skip it). There are TONS of ways to get an A (extra credit, bonus assignments, etc).
Words of wisdom, seriously. DO NOT BUY THE CUSTOM BOOK PACKET!!! They NEVER use it EVER and I don't see why it is required. If you bought it, hopefully you didn't open it, take it back and see if you need it. If not DO NOT BUY IT until you think you need it. Just go ask for help and go to class, seriously much better plan. TEXTBOOK IS RIPOFF!!
Professor DeSimone does a good job of explaining material to you if you pay attention in class. YOU NEED TO GO TO CLASS! I did for the first half of the class, did great, then I essentially stopped the second half and it showed in my grade. DO ALL TUTORIALS. I gave up on one about 1/2 through, dropped me from a B to a C in the end. Nice prof though
i am severely disappointed with her. she knows a lot about computers, but makes it very difficult to understand. the quizzes and tests include material not covered in class and often rarely mentioned in text.
DO NOT BUY THE TEXT BOOK! YOU WILL NEVER USE IT. Save the 70 bucks. You will need the CD though (another 70 bucks...eck). I never go to class, and I'm pulling a B average. Main reason being is that while I already know MSword and Excel very well, the tests/quizzes focus mainly on stupid**** like shortcut keys (CTRL+SHIFT+F5...wtF?).
Although DeSimone is a nice prof. who know the material, she does a horrible job when she tries to teach the class. There's times when the entire class is confused. Dont buy the Textbook, but definitely buy the CD. Although the material is easy, she makes it hard by adding xtra useless stuff to the Test and Quizzes.

You never actually see her - a ta teaches the class. The class is so boring, but a must for business kids... it's really easy thou. You get to make a cheat sheet for the test (8x11in front and back handwritten.) Still they are kinda tricky - do your tutorials well and you'll get a good grade. do NOT buy the text book!!!!
I thought she was tough unsympathetic woman when I first entered the class but after going through the entire course, I liked her a lot better. She isn't THAT hard to understand, and if you DONT understand something, just raise your hand and she will take the time to assist you. subject matter is simple but detailed. I skipped most classes, but had to get the details from some1-everything i didn't know i could have gotten in one class per test. DON"T BUY THE TEXT, JUST THE CDs, its needed for tutorials. Christian Roberson is an excellent TA-they actually teach the class for most sections. IF UR NOT BUSINESS DON"T TAKE!

The class is a lot of busy work, but you have to do it in order to do well. The tests aren't hard per say, but they are tedious and very detailed. **** was AMAZING for this subject material!
At first I didn't like her she seemed pretty scary, but by the end she turned out to be a nice lady. If you go to class everyday and pay attention the tests shouldn't be hard and the tutorials are not that hard either. The quizzes on the other hand aren't very easy, but she doesn't grade them that hard.
She honestly wants to teach the students the material but it's not that easy. In-class quizzes are given before the material is fully taught. Tutorials are tedious, long, and the instructions seem like they were written by an 5th grader. She will help anyone who comes to office hours. Go to class, take some notes, go to free TA review before exams.
Her instructions for EVERYTHING are vague and hard to understand. She's very rude and teaches the class as if this was high school. I wish my major didn't require me to have to waste my time listening to her.
She is very unclear with what she wants you to do in her class. Also if you make the smallest mistake then your grade in the class will suffer, tremendously. Also her test are rather impossible, she asks the most minute details about word that you will never need to know, and will not help you. If you aren't required to take this class, don't.
Ridiculous Tutorials with the poorest written guidebook ever. The "Saple Tutorial Pages" in the back of the book you were supposed to refer to didn't even correlate to the assignment you were working on. Although the tests were ridiculous, I think you learn just a little bit in this class. Overall though, don't take if not required.
This is "part 2" for CGS. Basically the same thing except there's more leeway on the tutorials on what you can do. Sometimes the instructions are a little vague but if you talk to her about it, she will clarify for you. I'd take this class again if I had the option.
This class was a total waste of time. The amount of hours put in for a good grade is ridiculous and the material is completely useless. The teacher is awful and puts things on the test that were not discussed in the text or in class. Almost Impassable without TutoringZone. Even then extremely difficult. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS UNLESS YOU HAVE TO!!

Class isnt bad if your pretty good with computers, there is alot of work to do but it isnt really hard you just need to alot your time to doing it. tests are pretty ambiguous and difficult but the assignments are a big part of your grade and they are pretty simple. dont really need to go to class just do Tutoring Zone and youre set
T.A.'s taught class, very hard exspecially if you get shibadas, who is a cool guy but indian and extremely hard to understand. Still have not even seen Rory Simone. Tests hard. Tutorials hard. Tell you to buy the wrong book and make you buy and $80 CD

Never seen this woman, but her tests are pretty easy. Be careful with the first one if you're a mac user, and make sure to write down processes on crib sheet because definitions and shortcuts are useless. Tests are long, tedious, and sometimes a lot of work, but they are EASY overall. Make a good cribsheet and pick an American TA
This class is a waste of time. Rory doesn't actually teach but one or two sections. Instead TAs who are less than knowledgeable attempt to teach. I personally had Kanad Basu, he was terrible, had no idea what was going on and would teach a lot of wrong things and say "i dont know why the computer is not working today" all the time.. ITS YOU KANAD!!
Rory takes what should be a useful class and turns it into an impossible waste of time that focuses on the most minor and unimportant details. The Tutorial guides are poorly written and unedited. The TA's are hard to understand and deliver the material poorly. Avoid this class if at all possible.

Honestly the worst teacher I have ever had. It seems no matter how hard you work the tests just eat you alive. She is happy if the class average is a 65!
Rory will likely not teach sections herself. The TAs were not very enthusiastic. The course required work - extremly detailed quizzes/tests and 4 long tutorials (projects on the computer). You are allowed a sheet of paper on them but basically need to be a computer to understand the tests. It could be helpful and you do learn a bit but it's tough.
the class is kind of boring but u need to go to understand what is going on. take notes on everything she says and then use them for ur crib sheet. make sure u get Rory de simone instead of the ta's b/c they r impossible to understand. the only real work is doing 4 tutorials which take about an entire day each so just start it a week b4 its due.
She seems pretty nice. The tutorials are stupid and a waste of time. But you can use a cribsheet on the tests which is really useful. Tests are easy, and I find it hard to pass this class with anything lower than an A. Just do your work and turn it in on time.
All you need to know is that she was soo good at teaching this class that she was removed by the department from teaching it anymore.
