Engaging lecturer. Never stutters. The readings are tough and so are the quizzes. Accessible, especially during group projects. She's so smart that I felt dumb. But she is also very encouraging and facilitates great conversations during class. Super organized, grades really fast. Slides aren't detailed so write everything she says during lectures.
Readings are hard & so are quizzes, but Dr. Li is so helpful, encouraging, & articulate that she doesn't make you feel like you can fall behind. She provides great support/resources, values everyone's thoughts & participation, gives clear feedback, is accessible. Lectures are application-based - make sure to do the readings and take notes in class
Dr. Li is overall a good prof. She accommodated for the changes this semester. Lecture options for sync. or async. but there's more work to do if you choose async. (piazza posts). In-class group work almost every class. Quick quizzes before every class. It's not too bad but the extra work isn't particularly helpful, just redundant.
She pretends to be very accommodating, however, she is not. During a pandemic she is more concerned with keeping people at Bs then adjusting to the situation. She is very condescending.
Dr. Li and her TA were great this semester. She is extremely engaging in lectures and makes class very group oriented. There are a few essays and a group project that are easy to do well on, as well as a small participation grade. This class is test heavy, but all of the information for the exams can be found in her lectures.
I have taken many PSYC classes and by far this has been the worst one I have taken. The TA's grade papers harshly and it is not clear where you fall short on points. The exams are pretty difficult. I suggest taking this class with another prof.
(Fall 2020) This was a very interesting class. She is a good teacher, and the tests were very fair (multiple choice and short answer). We read academic papers instead of a textbook, but she went over that content in class. There were a few projects, but they weren't bad. This was a great intro class for freshmen interested in psyc/neuro.
The easiest/ nicest professor I've ever taken. She assigns readings but for this course you definitely do not need to read (she even admits it). You will have three papers but they grade them super easy. A lot of group work but she lets you pick your groups.
A pretty easy class, just give decent effort and you'll easily get an A or B.
Dr. Li is a really neat lady but everything is graded by the TAs and I felt she wasn't always accessible to answer questions or concerns. Then once you do get a hold of her she will explain it the same way even if it doesn't make sense to you. Lectures were kinda boring and almost all the assignments center around a pre-assigned group.
Dr. Li is the most understanding professor and while the class is very test-heavy, the lectures cover everything. There are assigned readings but skimming will suffice. She's such a great person and super knowledgeable and willing to help you do the best you can in the class. Would recommend
Dr. Li is an amazing teacher! She is understanding of covid, mental health, and any other problem you can face. She is great about giving extensions for all assignments. Attendance is based on answering a few online questions (opinion based) in class. Grading is mostly done by IA's and they are not too tough. Lectures cover all test material.
This course is pretty easy but it is impossible to do well in it if you do poorly on one of the exams. The tests count for so much that the other assignments barley affect your grade. The assignments are mostly group assignments with a group of 2-3 that she selects. This class may have been worth it if it counted as a general education requirement.
Overall a pretty good class. 60% of the grade comes from two exams so if you don't do well on one it's hard to do well in the class, but what will be on the exam is pretty clear. Several papers/projects, but those were fairly straightforward.
Dr. Li was extremely understanding of COVID and its effects on students and worked hard to overcover the barriers of hybrid learning. Her class is heavily weighted on two exams, but both are completely based on the lectures, and the criteria for assignments were always clearly established. One of my favorite professors in the psych department!
This course is pretty easy but it is impossible to do well in it if you do poorly on the midterm or final. They both make up 60% of your final grade!! Tests count for so much that the other minor assignments barley affect your grade.
60% of your grade is determined by two exams in this class. I have gotten A's in participation, essays, and projects and then grinded for the exams and finished class with an 89.51. I assumed this would round up and I even emailed her but she wouldn't.
Dr. Li was understanding of pandemic stress; you can get an extension on anything. I found this class boring as I knew a lot from being a teen on social-still overcomplicated. Lectures go fast and can be confusing- if you have a q she'll often have you search through the hour long recordings or long readings. A nice person and not hard to get an A
Professor Li is a pretty good professor. The layout of the course is really nice and organized. There's a lot of working in groups, so this would be a good class to take with your friends. The course content is generally very interesting and she explains things well. The work load is very doable. She makes it very easy for her students to succeed
I have to give her a 5/5 because of her character. The class was quite decent, and the lectures were solid, albeit sometimes a little boring. Rosa was awesome though, I liked it a lot when she made jokes, and she was always highly organized, prepared and understanding. She is an excellent professor and person.
She as an amazing teacher, unfortunately I didn't get the best grade because I was focused on other things, but she was amazing and would help you no matter what and would even reach out to you for help when she saw you were struggling.
Not many assignments. Pretty easy class, but she's oddly uptight about it. I also noticed she slipped up a few times content-wise, but never corrected herself. And the exams aren't difficult, but they're harder than you'd expect. That said, they're open book and open internet, so even if you don't know something, you can probably find it.
She was a good professor and her lectures were pretty straightforward but her exams are set to like 20 questions so it was easy to miss one or two and make a B. Quiz every friday but you can take with a group the second try
Professor Li is super accommodating and understanding. Almost every type of assignment has a "drop lowest" including participation and papers. She does a great job at making diversity a focus in the course which was refreshing. Lectures were always easy to understand. A lot of textbook readings but that's pretty expected from a psych class.
The class isn't hard and the content is interesting. There were three unit exams that were each worth 10%. There were four papers throughout the course and she dropped the lowest paper grade. She also offers a free one-week extension for any one of the papers. The final was an exam and a group project. I highly recommend taking this class.
This was an interesting class, but wasn't an easy A for a gen-ed requirement. Several papers, a final group project, 3 exams, a final, and frequent check-up quizzes. There's some peer discussion in class, but it is mostly lecture-based. This topic is worth learning about, but it was definitely a more challenging course than I expected it to be.
This class is conceptually easy (mostly common sense). The TAs do all of the grading so if you get stuck with one that grades harshly you're out of luck. Dr. Li is not super approachable but she does try to implement feedback. Overall, I think the course content is interesting but don't go in expecting an easy A.
Reading the textbook will get you a better score on the tests than going to every lecture. The lectures weren't the most engaging, but the content was interesting. There's lots of flexibility in the course (EC, dropping the lowest grade in every category other than test) so it's important to be strategic.
Dr. Li is a really skilled lecturer, she is engaging and funny. She begins every class by playing music relevant to the topic of the lecture and often includes memes or other pop culture references in her slides. There are several readings, more so in the beginning but they are completely necessary. Big group project at the end. Dr. Li is great.
Dr. Li is very passionate and knowledgeable about child development psychology. Two lectures and one group activity each week. Her exams were tough, but she offers enough credit from papers and participation that it is still possible to get an A. She really cares about each of her students, so if you put in the work this is a great class!
The final project was graded horrendously, along with the other papers throughout the semester. Not really bad grades, but points taken off and no real explanation. She wants to randomly call on people in class too, so be prepared to have an anxiety attack!!
She's nice but I didn't enjoy this class much. The content was disinteresting to me, she calls on people at random, and the excessive amount of GRQs was unnecessary. Grading was pretty fair and lots of extra credit. I've taken 8 PSYC classes, I think it may be harder for people who haven't had psyc experience, especially for a 100-level course.
This was a pretty easy class, it just was dragged out a lot. Li is tries to engage students, but it ends up feeling forced a lot of the time. There isn't too much work to do and what there is isn't hard. Also, there is a LOT of extra credit up for grabs so f you are looking for an easy A, this is the class.
Professor Li is a great professor who cares about what she teaches. Attendance is taken in random class periods, and learning checks are used at the end of class. Exams were not super easy even though I felt I had a good grasp on the concept, but overall was a good class & great professor!
Professor Li is very knowledgeable on the subject she teaches, however, the knowledge she has never really correlates to how she teaches. She just read slides and some of those slides had no words on it either so if you were trying to review for an exam and you didn't take notes, it was over. Lots of extra credit, just felt like a poorly run class.
This class is very much geared towards freshman, and Li uses homework to keep them on track, which means a lot of busy work. That said, the class is easy, especially if you've taken any PSYC classes at UNC or if you're a PSYC major. The exams weren't hard and the TAs grade easy. If you need an easy A, it's a good option.
Professor Li is very organized and everything is super clear from the beginning. She gives you practice questions the day before the exam which are helpful, and gives so many opportunities in class to ask clarifying questions
The study guides are not helpful to know what to actually prepare for. Tests are hit or miss you get a notecard for some notes to have for the unit test and a sheet of paper for the exam. Dr. Li herself is fine , tries to encourage a lot of participation and groupwork. Be sure to take thorough notes because she does expect you to know details.
This class was very easy to take online over the summer. All HW's were graded easy, papers were fun and graded fairly, discussions were light, learning checks were good and you get two attempts (attempts are averaged), and the final was fair. Also, plenty of extra credit was offered through the discussion posts. Dr Li was a great professsor.
just a horrible professor who is mean to students and just doesn't teach well. honestly maybe the most uncaring professor i've had here
The class isn't the worst, there are attempts to build in flexibility with grading, but the exams are challenging and the professor doesn't make many attempts to help your success. Wouldn't go over key concepts for the exam when asked but said we were expected to know them, and lots of group activities that didn't feel helpful.
This professor is okay, but I will be avoiding taking a class with her again. The content is quite easy and her lectures are extremely organized but can become quite boring and she is extremely passive-aggressive. However, if you feel like your grade isn't the best, there are many opportunities for extra credit.
The class content was interesting, but when asked questions to go back over things, she spent a max of 5-10 seconds on a concept and then moved on to the next question. The exams are difficult due to having all lecture material, textbook, and other material being "fair game".
Professor is okay, not great. Exams are crucial in this class, but don't do a lot to help with review or to help students feel prepared for exams. There ar many activities that didn't seem beneficial for learning.
Lectures are very organized and easy to understand. However, make sure to read every chapter in the textbook that she assigns as she tends to put information on the test from the book that was never covered in class. Everything in text book is fair game for tests. She's a little passive aggressive as well. Lots of chances for extra credit.
Rosa Li is overall a good professor. My only real issue was that she has all material, even from guest lectures, be fair game on the exams and that information not covered in class was fair game with a poor reviewing method the class before.
I loved taking PSYC 180 with Dr. Li. She is an engaging lecturer and the content wasn't terribly challenging. You can tell that she cares about what shes teaching and the students she has. There are two thought papers throughout the semester that are very manageable. I definitely recommend this class!
WORST professor in the psychology and neuroscience department. She is more concerned with being right than considering students' perspectives. Her tests are ridiculously poorly written and her weekly quizzes are even worse. Her justification for her answers is always "well this answer choice was least-wrong." Pretends to be woke, learned nothing.
Monotonous. Learning nothing about development. Way too many tedious assignments that did not enforce my understanding of course content. Why did I spend more time illustrating and coloring a children's book for my final project than studying for my math 524 final exam? Overall a ridiculous class with an arrogant professor. Avoid if possible.
Brain rot class. Shocking how she got a job at chapel hill. dont take
study guide doesn't prepare you for the exams and they're poorly written along with the quizzes. When she goes over wrong quiz answers she says "This one is more correct than this one" without explaining. Try not to take this class
Avoid this professor if possible. Her lectures are extremely boring, she posts "study guides" for the exams but they are not helpful at all. She loves to put in very specific random questions on exams from studies in the textbook and other things we never discussed in class. She does not answer or explain questions the class is confused about.
Dr. Li is a nice professor but this class was honestly ridiculous. I feel like I learned nothing and the exams/questions are written so poorly. Even if you understand the material she makes the questions so confusing with multiple 'kinda correct' answers. I was super optimistic about this class but nothing is explained and its so frustrating
She was a great professor and as long as you went to class all of the tests were pretty easy. If you keep up with the little assignments its a relatively stress free class.
Dr. Li is slightly intimidating and slightly strict, but she really wants you to succeed. PSYC180 was pretty easy, but when reviewing, I realized the slideshows were very vague in information and you NEED to go to class to understand what her points were. She gives tons of extra credit and help though, so don't be scared to reach out.
The exams made no sense and there are multiple right answers but she will never tell you why one is “more right”. Papers were grading to harshly, the assignments were time consuming and not helpful. She never really answered questions but was passive about how she already covered that. she curved every exam which i've never seen in a psych class.
This class threw me a curveball. Professor Li was nice but her class was honestly ridiculous. Exams were worded weird and papers were graded harshly by the TA's. She gives extra credit but it's not enough to make up for the exams. Save yourself the trouble and DONT take this class with her.
Dr. Rosa Li was a very good professor so not sure why her rating is so low. The course was fairly easy, and she made exactly what we needed to do to succeed clear at the beginning of the year. Lots of lectures but she posts the slides. Gave lots of extra credit opportunities, and definitely recommend for PSYC180!
Li is a good professor I would say. She has decent lectures and the exams I thought were pretty reflective of the lectures. Some extra credit opportunities. you get an index card cheat sheet for exams. as long as you show up to class to take decent notes and go through slides before exams you would be fine.
Prof. Li is a nice person, and not a horrible lecturer, but boring. Her tests were also on very minute details like one small thing on a graph somewhere, or the answers were ambiguous. I did not do well at on the tests, but there were lots of other opportunities to pull my grade up with EC, so it kinda worked out. She is helpful in office hours.
Dr. Li is very nice and knowledgeable, and the class was generally easy. My only complaint is that there was a final exam and a final project. The exams were a little harder than I expected but you get a cheat sheet and everything else is pretty easy, so there is definitely plenty of opportunity to succeed even if you don't do well on the tests.
Before taking 250, I saw a lot of reviews on here that made me worried about taking this class with Professor Li. I needed the credit, so I went for it anyways and I've been pleasantly surprised. She is very clear about her expectations and has built in grace in her grading systems (dropping lowest quiz, etc) and offers extra credit opportunities.
Great class. Her grading criteria is very clear, and the exams are very fair. We're allowed one page as a security blanket for each exam, and the final is not cumulative. There are two papers and they're both super straight-forward, with clear grading criteria. If you take decent notes during lectures the exams are not difficult.
Dr. Li is a great professor with engaging lectures and clear slides. You can choose between two grading systems: one with required attendance and GRQs, or one based only on tests and papers. Exams are fair, and there's lots of extra credit. The class is enjoyable and manageable, even for non-majors. Highly recommend!
I was afraid after reading other reviews but def my favorite class this semester. Pick how you are graded (attendance/pre-class work included or 2 papers based on personal experiences + exams only), opportunities for extra credit, light work load, content is super interesting and relatable. 10/10 would recommend!
Dr. Li was extremely fair. Students could pick how they want to be graded based on strengths. Her exams were not super easy, but definitely not hard. They required studying because she would ask very specific questions. However, all her test questions were reflected on the slides. Definitely recommend this class, even though lectures can be boring.
Clear criteria with fair grading (you picked one of two grading schemes). Your grade is based on attendance, pre-class readings (if you picked the scheme with those), 3 tests, 2 papers, and the final. Classroom discussions were fun, and the material was interesting! I thought it was a relatively easy course, just pay attention to the slides.
PLEASE AVOID THIS CLASS!!!!! she will try to help but mention on exams a accordding to study from this random tuesday and lectures are sooooooo boring
Rosa Li was very nice, it's big class so I you won't necessarily be known unless you go to office hours or participate heavily. Class is interesting and structured well. The exams would have some random questions that threw me off. No textbook but lots of readings. There is a good mix of papers, participation, and tests for grades.
Her tests are worded very oddly and you have to guess to see what she is asking about. Papers are not given clear rubrics, and will get points taken off for random things. A boring lecturer who expects you to remember specific information from studies. Material is not difficult, but she makes it hard to do well.
passive-aggressive, not informative, and boring.
I preferred 180 > 250 with her. The 250 TAs lessened the quality of the class. There is a lot of homework and it's very repetitive but it's better than in class attendance in my opinion. Lots of group work so pick wisely. Dr. Li is a good lecturer and helpful for questions. She sets very clear policies and does not waiver on them.
AVOID HER IF YOU CAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
weird grader which makes it difficult to do well even if the work is put in
Didn't really learn anything from the class. I would agree with some of the other comments made too about her grading.
This class is super easy, and the 2 essays are also graded easily. You just have to memorize some terms for tests. There are grqs before most classes but shoulnt take more than 15 min to do. No other HW. Very low stress class.
I've gotten the impression that she wants to make the class unnecessarily more difficult than it needs to be. Will take grades off for things that are never explicitly mentioned in the rubric. She can also be quite hostile if you miss class. I personally would avoid taking a class with her if you can.
She does a lot of things right, but a lot I would change. Review sessions are not very thorough. ULAs didn't seem to know any material. Her formatting for the class is nice but lectures are not easy to pay attention to and tests are not easy because of how she words questions. Pretty interesting content either way
her exam questions are worded very weirdly and you can tell she wants to make the class harder than it should be.
I might be in the minority but I enjoyed every lecture and though Dr. Li did a great job teaching content during lecture in a very professional but still entreating way. I also took 180 with her and I feel like exams can be weird but once you figure out the general form and use the ability to bring a cheat sheet, you will do fine.
Dr. Li genuinely cares about her students and makes the course content easy to digest. I appreciate the frequent use of studies, examples, videos, and real-life scenarios in her lectures. Made it very fun and engaging. Tests/LCs aren't bad.
Rosa Li is generally a nice person, but her exams are unnecessarily confusing. Many of the questions are worded in an unclear and overly complicated way, and it often feels intentional. The difficulty of the class comes more from how questions are phrased than from the actual material. I'd avoid unless required.
tests are worded very weirdly and you have to kind of guess on what she wants. also be aware NO ROUNDING UP. if you have an 89.9 tough luck but that's not an a- to her.
There are weekly mini quizzes that are open note and pretty easy, and the group activities, almost every week, are also easy. Other regular lecture days are lowk boring, but not bad. They are a nice break from the other days imo. You need to know textbook terms for the exams, but you get a clear study guide and cheat sheet!
Dr. Li was super helpful and very accommodating to all students. Class has 2 midterms and a final (non-cumulative), 2 papers (short like 1-2 pages) and a group project (easy), lots of extra credit opportunities so you would genuinely have to try to do poorly in the class.
Dr. Li is superb! She assigns very creative and fun assignments, is very good with communication, organization, and you can tell she loves what she does. She is very accessible outside of class, and incentives you to do so. She is very well-versed in her craft and I hope to take another class with her soon!
A great class for some of your first semesters, interesting and super easy
