Had for BIO151, over the semester she got much better, but not the best. Very accessible and willing to help. She provides lots of extra credit options and open to suggestions. Thick accent, sometimes hard to understand. Exams are very hard but you can argue a question if you have a valid point that she gets. Really cares about student success.
Really cares about students
I loved this prof for intro biology. Lectures had a lot of useful info. Encourages asking questions. She teaches her own discussions which is really cool and unheard of. Always willing to help students succeed. Would take again.
Material is very in depth and this class covers a lot. She teaches, sometimes not understandable due to her heavy accent, well but the homework, quizzes and tests are worded so difficulty that even with prior knowledge you will have to guess. A lot of her stuff is online and already on Quizlet. Overall a lot of grades so you probably won't fail.
I loved her class. She gives a decent amount of extra credit. Make sure to go to class because she uses iClickers. Reading should be done outside of class to get an A.
The amount of content is immense, exams are difficult and primarily true/false questions with wording designed to trip you up, but definitely not an impossible class. Confusing at times but very approachable and willing to explain. She gives a ton of extra credit and really is a very sweet lady who genuinely wants to see her students succeed.
My absolute favorite class this semester. Rosa is a very kind person, easy to talk to, and extremely helpful during office hours. I specifically signed up for her section in Bio 153 next semester. The class covers a lot, and exams are difficult if you don't show up or pay attention in class. She gives a lot of extra credit.
Lovely prof, she really cares about you and wants you to succeed. Sometimes she is hard to understand but makes up for it though her patience in explaining even a simple topic. I would definitely recommend reading along in the textbook.
Her online quizzes are tough even though you read books and know what the chapters cover. Definitely not an easy A class.
Had her for 153 lab. She's very enthusiastic about what she teaches which can be a good and bad thing. She brings a lot of energy and excitement, but she takes the experiments very seriously and freaks out if you do something wrong. On the other hand, she cares a lot about her students understanding and doing well in her class and grades fairly.
I have previously had her for Bio 151. I signed up for her lab this semester and I have found it to be extremely interesting and well run. She is very enthusiastic and willing to help you if your mess up. Her grading is fair. She is approachable in office hours. I feel im learning a lot more than I would if the lab was run by a TA alone.
The first exam was tough but very fair, the second exam was tough (not as fair), third exam was ridiculously hard and the class average was terrible but she doesn't believe in scaling. The final exam was cumulative and extremely dense. Honestly this class was way too much work for a 200 level, seemed more like a 500 level course.
Had her for Bio153 lab (and 151 previously). She is an amazing and extremely caring professor who obviously has a very deep love for biology and teaching. She is a tough grader but very forgiving, and is always willing to help when you get stuck or confused. Study for the pre lab quizzes, show up (obviously) and do your reports to get an A.
Tests can be challenging, but the lectures cover everything you need to know, and there is a lot of really helpful supplemental material given and extra credit throughout the class, which is helpful! Dr. M is really caring and accessible outside of class as well and tries to make the class fair for everyone.
Her BIO283 Genetics class was pretty good. The exams are pretty tough if you do not study. This class is definitely not an easy A class. However, extra credits are capable to boost up your grades. As you skim the part that she will cover in the lecture and then shortly review what she has covered in lectures, you will get an A easily.
Awesome prof. she really cares about her students and takes a personal interest in talking to everyone during discussion. The class requires work put in, but it's not impossible. Definitely recommend.
Rosa is an awesome professor. She really cares to make sure that you understand the material and has great, informative lectures. Her office hours are very convenient and helpful. Her exams are great and similar to the lectures and discussions. She is also lenient with grading on exams as well. She's overall a sweet person and great for BIO151.
This woman cares so much about her student's' success. She does everything she can to help comprehension of topics whether through office hours, review sessions, or videos. She really keeps you engaged through discussion. She lets you pick up old quizzes/exams and go over them with her even with 250 people in a lecture. She's also great to talk to.
Rosa is such a sweet, smart, and caring professor. She truly wants everyone to be able to understand biology. She came to every discussion session along with the TA, which goes to show she's dedicated to getting to know her students. There is a lot of information to know, but if you take good notes and review lectures the exams are very fair
Moscarella is incredible. She cares about each of her students and is at every single discussion. She would come to lecture knowing students name and if someone raised their hand 9 times out of 10 she would be able to pick them by name. The content is not easy, and she has an accent but she is understanding of that and more than willing to help you
Prof Moscarella is one on the most caring professors you will ever meet. She is easily accessible outside of class and will take as much time as you need explaining the material to you. Her exams are straightforward and there are lots of other factors to your grade like weekly quizzes and problem sets that help your grade. 11/10 would recommend.
1st exam was easy, everything after that was ridiculously hard. She is very caring and sweet but never understood her lectures. Everything was self teaching. There is a lot to your grade though and exams are worth 50% of overall grade so you can do very well. She gives a bunch of extra credit through exams and problem sets so regardless, you be fine
Nice professor who really cares about her students. Her tests are tough but fair. She is always looking to improve and really nice.
She is super nice & is a caring woman. Her lectures require you to be auditory (most of the info she gives you is in what she says, not what is written on slides). With this being said, all lectures are recorded so you can go back. She genuinely cares about her student's success. There are a lot of small assignments that boost your grade.
Prof Moscarella truly cares about her students, shes accessible and this class comes with copious amounts of resources to succeed. That being said, this is a very work heavy and time consuming class. Not an easy A, you really have to put in work and stay on top of a lot of assignments
Dr. Moscarella is the most caring and sweet professor I've had. She genuinely cares about her students, but I could barely understand her in the lectures. I found some of the exams to be unnecessarily hard. She talks very fast and it is very difficult to follow her. I loved her, but not as a professor.
She is very excited about her course and interacting with students. She had lots of sapling online homework but it was very interesting, informative, and helpful. Dont miss the problem sets. Its not an easy A but is doable. I personally struggled with understanding her accent at all and she talks fast, but I made it through.
Bio283 is far from easy regardless of who you have. That being said, there was a LOT of work to do, which I liked because it made grade fluctuations less drastic. Plenty of EC opportunities, and I think she did a great job making the class accessible to all students. Dr. Moscarella really cares and is very approachable and wants you to succeed!
Professsor Moscarella is one of the best professors I've had so far. Genetics is not an easy topic, but she makes it understandable and straightforward. Pay attention in lecture for sure; the textbook is also helpful. She is super helpful and sweet outside of class and easy to access w/ office hours and emails.
Rosa is a really caring professor and always tries to accommodate her students. Unfortunately, her online class is pretty hectic with a lot going on. I feel as though I have to teach everything to myself.
During a pandemic she decided that she would have 5- 8 pre recorded lectures/week on top of live class on Thursdays. I have no time to watch all of the lectures on top of my five other classes. An extreme amount of lecture videos/material for a 3 credit course.
She is such a great person. Her tests are very hard though - if you studied, think twice. There tends to be a lot of work during the week. The discussion section is fun though, and there are TA's everywhere willing to help. Overall, she is great and I have truly learned a lot from her. **Does not believe in makeup exams but will give out EC once!
Like everyone else says, she 100% cares about her students. This course, taken online (bc pandemic) was very heavy. The lectures are long & dense (and there's 5-6 every week), but can be enjoyable if you take time to review her slides prior to watching lectures. She's gives extra credit to boost grades too!
Bio311 is the worst class I have ever taken. Rosa runs a live class every week on top of various pre-recorded lectures. There are about 6 assignments due every Sunday on sapling on top of problem sets that might be due on Moodle. I am very disappointed in the way she has handled an online class . Complete overkill of work.
Rosa is amazing, shes so nice! I recommend reading the textbook on top of watching her lectures, it just helps you learn the content in another way. Her work load is heavy, but I feel like thats fair considering its an introductory biology class and theres so much to learn. Her exams are fair; challenging, but if you study, you will be ok!
Over 100 sapling assignments, live class, pre-recorded lectures, and four exams for the semester
Dr. Moscarella cares about you. She is happy to explain tough topics over and over until you really understand them. She is very sweet and caring. She doesn't want you to fail, often giving extra credit and flexibility. Her class is manageable, but don't be fooled, bio is super hard in general. Fortunately, her exams are pretty straightforward.
Yes she is a nice person, but she will make weekly quizzes easy, launchpad assignments easy, discussions somewhat difficult and tests insanely hard compared to everything else. The practice exam she gives, is ten times easier. 50% of the grade is testing, weekly quizzes are 10%. Tricky true or false questions. I dont recommend her. Grade scale bad
She's very nice and so sweet. Her exams are a bit difficult to be honest, you have to really study. However, she provides a lot of homework to practice
Prof Moscarella is really caring, which makes it even harder to leave a low rating. She wants students to succeed, but she doesn't really seem to understand how to make that possible. The lecture material doesn't match what you're tested on, everything is disorganized, and there are way too many assignments, leaving ZERO time to actually learn.
Love Rosa! Wasn't easy but well worth it. She is kind and explains content well. Had no trouble understanding her accent, but ppl do. She wants you to do well but makes you work. I enjoyed the class so much I may take genetics with her. Used Launchpad for HW and txt book, which you unfortunately have to buy. The animations are very helpful.
She gives a lot of work to do but its not busy work its actually helpful and prepares for you the exam. Just do the assignments and youll be all set
Professor Moscarella truly cares for the material she is presenting and the students she teaches to. Her genetics class is very challenging (for example), but as you move into upper level courses (like Mammalogy) with her, it becomes clear what deep passion she has for biology; this is very clear within her lectures and communication with students
Prof. Moscarella is an amazing professor. She is so organized (I took her class when it was online due to covid so this was very important), very informative, & extremely accessible outside of class. She is extremely informed, respectful and progressive in her views on gender vs. sex, which is a crucial in a genetics class.
Love her
Genetics can be a difficult subject, but Dr. Rosa wants her students to do well. She will explain anything that doesn't make sense, including at office hours. If you go she gives amazing 1 on 1 help. She is overall a kind woman and just cares about her students. You can tell she wants you to do well even if you aren't the best student. Hard exams.
If you are from another major(even if it's another heavy science major), avoid taking this class with her. She has prepared it ONLY for people in Biology major so you are screwed even if you've taken the prereqs and done well. She is very disorganized in presenting the material and expects you to know everything and just bombards you with things.
She's more determined on making students work hard than actually learning something. Have to read 80pg text before each class, even then it's real difficult. Weekly hw+ quizzes, biweekly problem sets & extra hard exams&all the text reading. No time to actually learn anything. Her accent makes it difficult to understand things, though not her fault
Easiest 300 level class ever. Rosa is the nicest lady I've ever met and the amount of extra credit is borderline absurd. She really wants every student in her class to succeed.
Prof. Moscarella is a caring person. Her lectures are worth going to but she tends to go over things very quickly. The launchpad textbook is best read before her class and assignments are due every week. Definitely go to SI sessions and reviews if you can!
AMAZING. You can tell she is so interested in her field. She explains concepts well and will clarify if students are confused. Online textbook access has to be purchased in order to do the homework, which is a chapter a week.
As someone who has only taken bio freshman year of high school this class is not meant for beginners. I don't think there was ever a time I understood what was happening no matter how hard I prepared. I would recommend going to every review sessions and reading the textbook if you wanna get above a C in the class.
I love Rosa. This class is by no means easy, but if you are willing to put in the work this class is really fun. She genuinely cares about her students (once emailed me back at her daughters recital). Her lectures go quickly, so be prepared to refresh material outside of class. Shes super funny and genuinely a good person. Highly recommend.
Bio311 is a middle of the road class. I honestly did not go to lectures and still got an A. There's a lot of online homework which isn't super useful but it adds a lot of points to your grade for just clicking through it. Take this class with a friend and you will be fine. and do the SI worksheets they're a life saver. scales exams
Moscarellas lectures are useless. She meanders her way through a lecture with minimal info in her slideshow. Reading the book and the review sessions are helpful. Shes a nice person but not good at teaching this material, her accent can be a little difficult. She is not beginner friendly. If you did well in AP bio you should be alright.
If you've enrolled in this class, prepare to teach yourself everything. The lectures are long, but do not go into detail - they basically review the material that you should've learned during your extensive readings. This class will be very difficult, especially if you haven't taken AP bio.
There is loads of homework. Make sure to go to the discussion, some of my friends missed one and their grades dropped by a few points. I'll be honest the lectures were a drag, she just drones on and on. Never gives us review time, as soon as lecture starts we are learning something new no recaps or anything. Basically, you have to teach yourself.
She explains things really well, is passionate about bio, and really cares about students understanding material. It's a difficult class but if you use the materials, SI sessions, and pay attention in class, you'll do well and learn A LOT.
Emails reminders and gives extensions w/o you asking if you are missing work. Super interactive. Does activities in class and provides "busy work" for outside class (which is a pain but overall needed if you want to learn). Super approachable and caring. Will accommodate and emphasizes her desire for each student to learn to their best ability.
Rosa is very nice and you can tell she is super passionate about this field. However, this class had an insane amount of assignments. I honestly think they could have split it into 2 classes. There was a total of 6 exams, 1 paper, 2 projects, 8 quizzes, and more. Be prepared to spend a huge chunk of time outside of class to study and do hw.
Awful. Extremely unfair exam questions that do not reflect the material from homework, problem sets, practice exams or reviews. The material itself is not difficult but she intentionally creates multiple choice questions to trick you. She is also chooses who to give extensions to and who not to. Only helpful part of this class were the SI sessions
Difficult to follow along in lecture, and never felt adequately prepared for exams. The way exam questions are asked does not reflect how she teaches. Her attitude and frustration towards student's inability to grasp and regurgitate the information being taught often comes out during lecture and overall makes the learning experience unpleasant.
Although she is very sweet, this class was awful. Her exams were unfair, lectures were confusing, and she gave so much unnecessary homework. She also got frustrated with low exam averages and refused to listen when we tried giving her feedback on how to improve. Nice woman but bad professor. Would not recommend taking this class with her.
I had Prof. Moscarella for both Intro Biology and Genetics and I can confidently say that she is super nice. She is accessible outside class hours, helps explain concepts, and often gives extensions for work if you ask her for it. She does not give extra credit, which is a bit annoying, but her reasoning behind it is more than fair.
Rosa's lectures are kind of all over the place which was intimidating at the start but her exams are very straightforward. Known the basics and you will do great on exams. She is very generous with extensions and gives a lot of extra credit opportunities on the homework and problem sets.
Professor Moscarella was a really sweet and kind professor but I had difficulty understanding her lectures due to her thick accent. At least she does give some extra credit opportunities to boost up your grade. I highly reccomend attending office hours, TA review sessions, and SI sessions to do well in the class.
Rosa is probably the most friendly and lenient teachers in the biology department. Although her classes were not mandatory, she gave enough material to study outside of class so that we do not fall behind. She was always willing to help and her TAs were very informative during review sessions. Probably one of the best classes I've been in.
She spends so much time on topics that don't need to be repeatedly pounded into my head, and speedruns through things that should not be in intro to bio. God please run as fast as you can if you have her for 151, faster than her talking speed during lectures. I feel like I have to teach everything to myself.
Prof. Moscarella is one of the sweetest profs I've ever had. She's also kind ab extensions. You can tell she's super passionate ab genetics and it really translates to lectures, which made me enjoy the subject too. Her tests are VERY FAIR. If you watch the lectures, go to SI exam review, and study for a couple hours at most you will do just fine:)
She is really so sweet and cares about her students, she just wants everyone to succeed and is very encouraging. She has an accent, sometimes she can be hard to understand but its easy to rewatch lectures to make sure you are caught up on the main ideas. She makes genetics interesting. All HW on quizlet, go to 1 SI review and set for exams
Genetics is a fun class and Rosa is very passionate about it. There are lots of extra credit opportunities. Homework is not bad but exams are definitely hard so study. Rosa goes over weekly quizzes and takes some questions off the grade if she sees they were too difficult.
Rosa is a great professor that genuinely cares about her students. As a student who took AP Biology in high school, this course was a breeze and was mainly a review of the topics learned in AP Biology. Her exams are extremely fair if you study straight from the lecture slides.
Maybe it was just me, but hardest class I've ever taken here -- had to drop it. The tests are not on the basics and are super specific, some being variations of problems that you haven't really seen before.
She has a thick accent which can sometimes make it hard to understand. Do your assignments because it actually helps to understand the class. The TAs and the review sessions are super helpful. Most of your time will be dedicated to this class.
Rosa moves very quickly in class and her tests counts for 50% of your total grade. Just go to the weekly SI sessions and tutoring before the exams and you will get an A in the class for sure. Lectures are really long and hard to pay attention in as there is so much material.
Dr. Moscarella is animated and passionate but she moves very quickly. You'll have to spend a good amount of time outside of class digesting the dense lectures. She is very willing to help students out and extend deadlines when you reach out. Going to SI and exam reviews will be a lifesaver.
Rosa is very passionate about teaching. She wants you to understand the concepts, no specific memorization is required. Each weekend there is a decent amount of homework, but it definitely helps reinforce concepts that were covered in lecture.
I had Professor Moscarella for two classes and both times her lectures were so easy to understand and really interesting. The moodle page is well organized so you always know what is due and the work you should be doing to do well in the class. She's really caring and great overall!
One of the nicest professors I've ever had; genuinely cares about the subject and students. Might talk a bit fast sometimes but she's aware of it and will slow down if asked. Attendance is taken via iClicker questions, exams (2 midterms, 1 final) only include what was learned in lecture, homework was manageable, gives extra credit and extentions.
Genuinely caring professor willing to put in the effort to help students learn. As an example, this semester she discounted homework questions that the vast majority of the class got wrong. Really fair grader, and the lectures were super super well organized and made learning easy. She's good at explaining concepts and I feel like I learned a lot.
Tests are based on lecture material, book material is covered on weekly quizzes but is mainly supplemental. The workload is extensive but helps pad your grade and there's also tons of extra credit, so if you put in the work you'll pass. I found her lectures fast/hard to follow and I think I learned most of the material by attending SI sessions.
She's great and BIO 151 is very very very easy with her. She gives free points on tests which make impossible to do poorly given you have functioning brain. Lectures can be a little boring but that can be said about any class. Overall, amazing teacher.
Rosa is very nice, but in lecture she talks way too fast and is hard to understand. Her test are very difficult and the questions are not straightforward. She does however provide a lot of opportunities for extra credit.
Professor Moscarella is not for everyone. She speaks really fast and her exam questions can be difficult to decipher. However, she provides a multitude of extra credit opportunities and seeing her in office hours helps. Compared to other professors, she teaches 2x the Biology 151 material. If your passion is Biology, I highly recommend Moscarella.
Make sure to pay a lot of attention in class, and there is a lot of information to take in for exams. I suggest reviewing after every class, and sometimes she talks fast and you don't have much time to take notes during lectures. She is very nice and friendly, but exams are a little difficult.
Prof. Moscarella is great! She is very caring, approachable, and passionate about what she teaches! Plenty of opportunities to exceed in the class; she is accessible, gives quite a bit of extra credit, and assigns several assignments outside of exams (weekly HW/quizzes, problems sets, paper). If you actually want to learn about genetics, take her!
I'll be honest she is a nice person like personality-wise. However, she can not teach. Like at all. Her lectures are hard to understand, she talks way too fast and just scribbles on slides with no way to even see what she is writing. Be ready to get low grades on her exams because she puts hard questions that you have never seen before.
Prof Moscarella and lab instructor Kate are super nice ladies with good hearts and are both passionate about their studies. But this class was a lot harder than expected. I got a B- which is low for me due to the really hard exams. The worst part is the lab practicals though. Expect to get at most a 50 on those. Or just don't take this class. Sorry
Exams and lectures are very content heavy. Attendance to lectures helps a lot because slides are very lengthy but pay attention to the slides and exams will go smoothly. Not really flexible with deadlines. Scales exams.
Prof. Moscarella's lectures were okay and a bit boring at times which was annoying because attendance and participation are graded. There's a lot of homework but also a lot of opportunity for extra credit and it is difficult to lose points on the discussions or homework.
do all the iclicker questions and homework, and use the study guides she gives you, and ull get an A
She understands students and grants extensions if needed! Participation is required (and checked through iClicker)! It's important as it helps with exams. Exams aren't too bad as she gives practice exams (and SI and TAs hold review sessions)! Diagrams are given in exams! Homework helps practice concepts and review for exams! (Not too much hw)!
Course was very difficult but she made it bearable. She granted extensions if needed, was incredibly nice and interactive during her lectures despite the Size, and her exams were actually direct questions, easy to study for and included diagrams to help understanding.
Loved her she's so sweet. Three exams and uses iclicker in class for attendance and worth a couple of points. Finals online but monitored, replaces your lowest midterm if its better. Weekly discussions that are basically grade booster, lots of HW. Gives a lot of recourses do up your grade and get help.
Rosa is a really sweet person and she clearly cares about how students perform in the course. The exams are not that bad and there is a ton of ways to earn credit in the class. She does go through slides really fast but the material really isn't that hard. I would recommend taking her course.
This class is tough because there is a ton of information and assignments but I learned more than I have in any other class at UMass. I also could've gotten a better grade but I slacked off because it's my last semester. I definitely liked the lab more than the lectures but the class was great overall. Rosa really enjoys teaching the material!
Rosa is a very caring professor. She is dedicated to supporting her students throughout the semester and doesn't just teach to an exam. Rosa is concerned about her students fully comprehending the material and their ability to apply the information in real-world situations. I appreciate the level of difficulty in her lectures.
Rosa is a great professor who does care a lot about her students and making sure her students understand the principles being taught. However there is a lot of homework every week and exams were made purposely harder after the class did too well on the first exam.
Love Rosa! She certainly cares about her students and the class was very easy to follow as someone with no biology background. There were many homework assignments, but they have multiple attempts and were overall not too time consuming. Tests weren't bad at all. She structures the class around student's success
She doesn't explain things in lectures very well but it's easily self-teachable through the textbook. Lots of extra credit and office hours, if you meet with her personally she explains things a lot better. Exams are easier than homework.
I love her so much, she is definitely one of my favorite professors.
Rosa is a very nice professor who really cares about her students and their success. The material, however, is pretty difficult for an introductory class. Thankfully, Rosa provides students with extra credit, homework assignments (which serve as cushion points), and plenty of resources to study with. Be ready to teach yourself a lot of material.
Professor Moscarella is really kind. I loved attending her lectures because they were always incredibly interesting. Having taken AP Bio, I found it easy to follow along with her lectures-- others thought she went through material too quickly. There were many assignments scattered between canvas and achive which were hard for me to keep track of.
Took BIOL521 Comparative Vertebrate Anatomy Lab, not 548. One of the most challenging classes I've taken. You will need to put in the effort and many hours outside class/lab in order to get a good grade. Lab exams consists of you being able to identify and know the function of up to 30+ muscles and bones. Not for the feint of heart but worth it!!
Professor Moscarella's class is no easy feat, but with dedication and the right study tools like unstuck ai, you can succeed. Attendance is a must, but the exams, while challenging, are fair if you put in the work. Highly recommended for biology enthusiasts.
The textbook is your best friend for this class. Most of the curriculum for this course is microbio so while lectures are helpful it is too much info to grasp in class, this class is a lot of work outside class but if you study you'll be fine. If you keep up with the class the assignments she gives are actually really helpful. Very understanding.
Honestly, Rosa is such a sweet person, but her lectures do not help very much. I would say show up and just listen to what she says to get an idea of what is going on. The homework assignments are very helpful to understand what is going on. If you could only do one thing, SHOW UP TO TA EXAM REVIEWS, they explain everything so clearly.
She's a nice professor, but sometimes lectures are hard to follow. There is a lot of online homework that feels like busy work half the time. I thought it was an easy class though.
I was excited for this genetics course. However, honestly this was by far the worst class I've taken so far. The professor is a sweet person, but the type of homework that is assigned does not fit with exams given. you must pay $100+ for an app that is not that helpful & problem sets are graded harshly. The TA review sessions are your life-saver.
Amazing prof that really cares about students! Lectures are good, and the supplemental readings really help when completing the homeworks and quizzes. Exams are MC and open response, but she helps you prepare and there's extra credit. The workload is not bad for this course and she is great with answering questions
I think that this course is very interesting but sometimes Rosa doesn't do a great job of teaching it. Honestly the TA notes were my best resource in this class. You can get up to 10% extra credit on both midyears which helps a lot but not on the final which was harder than the midyears. No reading, just assignments which aren't that helpful.
Excellent class
She is extremely kind and helpful, but I would look into other professors. Moscarella assigned more work and harder tests than most other Bio 151 classes. It's a lot of unnecessary work when you can get the same information and credits somewhere else. However, I did learn a lot and would take her class again if I had a light schedule.
Rosa is so sweet. She cares about bio and her students. But, her lectures were hard to follow, and the homework on Codon learning was complete busy work and did not help me for exams at all. The only reason I did well was because I took AP bio in high school. I would only recommend Rosa if you have a strong bio foundation. Despite, very nice lady.
Very nice professor! She uses a online learning website called codon which you have to pay for, but no textbook. Pay attention in lecture, ask your discussion TA questions. The codon work is usually harder than actual exams so do not freak out when the codon practice test is super confusing.
Lots of homework but exams are much easier than the homework. LOTS of optional extra credit, you'll be doing yourself a HUGE favor if you just do it and get your work done on time. She's really sweet and understanding. If you go to lecture and do your work, you'll do fine!
Her lectures suck lowkk... you will def have to rewatch the slides to get a good grasp, unless you took AP bio then u might be good. But i hated this class. Shes sweet and all but god damn she dont know how to teach.
Dr. Moscarella is such a sweetheart, she really cares for her students. Lots of extra credit was given. We did homework on Codon Learning, which was harder than actual exams and not entirely helpful. Lots of prep for exams. Her lecture slides were a little hard to follow. If you show up, and *genuinely* put in effort, you'll be just fine!
As someone who did not take AP Bio, this class was a nightmare. Moscarella is nice, but can't teach. Lectures are fast and hard to follow. Tests are extremely difficult, even if you studied and got help from her or the TA. She uses Codon Learning for a textbook which is awful and confusing. I don't recommend unless you have a strong bio background.
Good professor, ok at teaching, she goes too fast on important topics which is annoying. Codon was not helpful. Tests on it are super hard. Her tests are easy, so much extra credit and si/ta are helpful. Overall, it's ok having a bio foundation helps.
Professor Moscarella was a great teacher and is an extraordinarily kind person. Even without much bio experience, it's very much possible to do well by paying attention in lectures (a must) and doing all the homework and discussion packets. The material is not too difficult but there is a lot of it.
