She's so hard but soooo willing to take you to the next level in your education if you don't shut her out.
she is a great lab teacher...the class is very hard so u must be willin to spend a lot of effort to pass
she's one of the best professors i've had. she knows her subject and knows how to teach
Horrible, confusing and atleast partially insane. I would never take another course with this lady. I had her for my genral anotomy lab and she was OK but for neuroanatomy she is horrible. Unfortunately she is the only professor at CSUS who teaches neuroanatomy.
She is very clear as far as the material goes. If you need help out of class, she is rude and unwilling to help. I have gone out of my way to make sure that i never take her again.
This is the most together prof at Sac State. She treats her students with greatness in mind, expecting and excepting only the best from you. She does come off a little hard sometimes, but if you show interest and ask questions and practic, practice, practice, it WILL pay off. Don't expect to fly by in this one, that's for sure.

This teacher is so wonderful. However the class it self is very hard. You have to study a lot in order to pass. Because if you dont keep up in the work assigned and the readings then you will not pass. Carter is a very helpful teacher and she understands t
There is nothing easy about this class. Dr. Carter is an outstanding professor and clearly knows the material. She is confident and gives her best. She expects the same from her students. You MUST work hard in the class from day one. If you put in the effort, you can be successful. Never ever miss a lecture or lab and stay up on the readings.
This was the hardest class I have ever taken in my life. Carter seemed pretty cool, but I found her to be very intimidating. She really knows her stuff and seems SURPRISED when no one else does. Take good notes and try to make sense of them on your own.
Are you REALLY ready to become a surgeon, doctor, denist, pharmacist, nurse etc etc? Then taking this course with Dr. Carter is your first of many tests on your road to healthcare. How badly do you want it? Imagine you are in an intense surgery... the nurse has just given you a rundown of the patient's vitals... but you are busy dreaming about w
Scatter brained at times but knows her stuff. Tends to be very fast paced & mean in lecture but relaxes at lab. If you can get the 2nd lab, get it! She is much nicer after she eats and lets the coffee wear down. Stay on top of the readings from the VERY beginning because you will need ALL of the information for the ENTIRE course and always REREAD
This class was so hard, You really need to study and be prepared..She doesn't give you a study guide so you just have to try to memorize the whole chapter and really study
REALLY hard class!!! She doesnt make anatomy interesting at all and talks way to fast in general. She is a nice person but kinda mean..she doesnt really instill alot of confidence in her students and makes you want to change your major!!!
confusion between book and lecture and lab book, but overall really good course. Final much harder than expected.
Great person / High expectation teacher, MUST be driven to learn for yourself, dont be afraid to ask questions, Tape record lectures, ALWAYS read chapter BEFORE class, Lecture tests are way above students in class (~ 60 questions), Always come to lect. and lab (She does notices), Form study groups & learn from each other. This prepares Med students
Yes she does really high expectations, but bottom line you learn the material a long time after. Tests are challenging and at times she is moody, but she really is a nice person that wants you to suceed, you just have to put your work in.
I had this class last semester and it was really hard. You need to to study for this class every single day and she really doesn't give a study guide so you have to read the whole book and basically memorize it.
This woman is crazy! She obviously knows the material but she is very unapproachable and unwilling to help you. She wasted a semester of life talking about we should be doing as students rather than teaching the material. She is very moody and watch out because one minute she is smiling at you and the next she is chewing you a new ****.
her lectures are extremely fast, she makes you feel dumb at times, and shes not really engaging. I attended class everyday, i did well on the lab class (averaged a B on all tests) yet i couldnt quite grasp her (lecture) exams. Definitely would not advise someone to take her class
She is way too fast. I went to lecture and lab everyday and her tests didn't cover what she talked about. I hated her, she seemed to not care about her students at all and I know for a fact about 40% of the class failed. Would not recommend unless you want to spend 20 hours a week studying. Good luck with this one
This class is impossible to get an A in. I know for a fact that over half the class is failing her lecture exams and we're only passing the lab exams because she's not teaching it. I come to class and lab everyday and study for 2 hours everyday and can only manage a B average. She yells at you if you ask her something too..Don't ruin your GPA
Let me start by saying Thank the Lord it is Spring Break because I would kill myself if I didn't have this week off from listening to her incomprehensible ramble during lecture. Extremely difficult, but intelligent teacher..only 1 student will get an A in this class per semester and if you have a life, it won't be you. DONT TAKE!
OkaY, first of all the final is ABSOLUTELY CUMULATIVE! To all those ppl who say you learn a lot in her class...well duh...if ur forced to study 5 hours a day for a class..of course you will. Her lectures are way too fast and only half the things are actually on her test, the other half is random pieces of info from the book. Stay away if possible.
she is very knowledgable but is better for an advanced course. you may think that beacause i failed that i am just bitter and whining but i failed twice. she teaches from the book but tests on her personal experience. labs are easy but lectures are hard. i studied and studied read the book over and over. but i still didnt pass
Well if what you want to hear is this class is an easy "A" - then forget it... Very difficult class. Time consuming, and will push you to the brink of insanity... *BUT* if you work hard and put the TIME in, it really is worth it. She really filters out those student who aren't serious about their majors - so stick with it - or change your major..
extremely difficult course. same as med/pharmacy school histology. must read book thoroughly. unless you're committed to putting in the time, just avoid this class
She is the toughest professor anyone can ever have. She teaches at the same level as grad school, to be put lightly. But if you read and study with groups in the class, you'll be fine. The best teacher I've ever had. She filters out all of the slackers. This class is not for you if you have bad study habits.
Very Brilliant professor. The way to get an "A" is to show up everyday and form a study group. She works very hard to keep her students doing well but at times is too wound up in other things to answer questions outside of class. One extreme down fall with this professor is that she acts very superior and forgets that we are only human. It is p
Dr. Carter's extremely hardcore. She teaches at an accelerated pace. If you have a mediocre study habit, passing will be very difficult. Ask relevant questions as specific as possible during her lectures. She'll happily help you during her lab. Don't bother sucking up. The cumulative grade you get throughout the semester will be your final grade.
Dr. Carter is THE BEST anatomy professor!! The class is hard but she makes it worth the work. Textbook and lecture are the bible... never miss lab or class and you will do OK. she takes time to answer questions and REALLY loves the subject. i took 2 others teachers and she's the only one i liked!!
This class seems intimidating but if you study regularly and keep up with your lab manual, its not too bad
Currently, we're at the beginning of the semester. However, this prof. has been nothing but unfair. Today, five people received extra credit simply because they nodded their heads when the prof. asked a yes or no question. WTF! So I guess you have to suck up to her to get some points. Remember to nod your head, even if you don't know it.
I couldn't agree more with the person who rated her today. In addition, she has a rule: nobody can ask questions during quizzes. She made a mistake on the quiz and I was frustrated because I couldn't ask a question about that problem. Though she ended up giving points back for her mistake, it cost the student time on other problems on the quiz.
Hands down the worst prof on campus. Constantly belittling students. Tests on stuff not in the book or notes. Don't even think about asking her for help. Extremely irritating to listen to in lecture.
Dr. Carter goes way over lecture time, has disorganized PowerPoint slides that are from previous unrelated classes to Histology, doesn't like answering emails and questions because it wastes valuable class time, assigned online quizzes without giving students permission which resulted all students receiving no credit. Study everything from BIO 22.
I had Professor Carter for Anatomy lab and the class was ridiculous. You absolutely HAVE to make every lab or you will be really lost. I'm a straight A student and got a D- in this class. The professor is not clear, unnecessarily difficult, and goes through each topic way too fast. Take this class somewhere else if you can!!!
Im not even in her class but attended one lecture because a freind of mine was in there. She is horrible..makes her students feel dumb and doesnt like answering questions. Goes way too fast on lecture. Bleh! Thumbs down
Dr. Carter is a very smart lady who really knows her stuff. She is truly one of the best at the school. Some people do not like Carter, but I think their problem is not with Carter, but with the material that we are required to learn. Everyone needs to understand that human anatomy is a very tough subject. So, no matter which professor you have, it
no matter which professor you have for Bio 22, it is going to be hard. You really have to be dedicated and focused to succeed in this course. I studied every single day, attended each lecture, and I ended up passing this course
Oy, I believe that this course needs to be revised and catered to the learning experience of the students, NOT to the patience of the teacher. Don't bother asking questions during lecture, make sure to read the chapter summary before each lecture, download the lecture outline on SacCt, form a study group, and study EVERYday. You might pass, hah
most HORRIBLE teacher in the history of BIOLOGY!!!! I'm a straight A student and happened to fail the first 2 exams so far. Dont email, powerpoints are word for word material from text = useless! Grade is detemined by 5 tests, 10 quizzes, 10 online quizzes and 5 lab practicals. Studying doesn't even help.
DO NOT TAKE HER! SHE IS ABSOULTELY AWFUL!!!! PRIOR TO THE FIRST DAY OF CLASS YOU SHOULD ALREADY HAVE ALL BODY PARTS NAMED AND MEMORIZED IN THEIR SCIENTIFIC FORMS AS WELL AS READ CHAPTER ONE AND UNDERSTAND. SHE GOES THROUGH LECTURE TOO FAST TO WHERE YOU CANT COMPREHEND IT OR EVEN WRITE DOWN WHAT SHE IS SAYING. RUN RUN RUn!
I have an A in the class and spent many evenings in the library to get it. She is difficult, lectures very fast and has high expectations but smart and I believe she does want the students to succeed (although irritable at times). If you survive carter and BIO22 (most students will not) I think you will be better off. Hint: USE THOSE BOOKS
As with all anatomy classes this is very terminology based and should not be entered in without proper prerec's. Her lectures are NOT to learn they are to clarify what you did not learn from the text(half the time its so much info you don't know what to ask). Be prepared to regurgitate the book. She will try to help if you go to her office hours.
She talks way too fast durin lecture, doesn't stop and doesn't want you to stop her lectures so no questions can be asked at all. She says she knows the material, I believe it. I just don't think she can teach the material.
When you FIRST come into that classroom with her, you would probably hate her so much. But if you stay in the class, you'll like her teaching. Her class is straightforwards, not easy but challenging. Anatomy does take up most of your study time, so study by understanding the material (what i mean is READ THE BOOK SO YOU CAN GET AN A!)
This. Was. Horrible. She is not a "teacher" she is your facilitator. You are responsible for knowing EVERYTHING in the textbook, with very little help. Anatomy is an intense subject, but it should not be THIS ridiculous. I am glad that I got a C- so I can retake the stupid class and get an A. This was my first (and only) C in my college career.
Unapproachable, knows her anatomy but does not teach, more like reviews the book in a fast pace. If you ask a question most of the time she will put you on the spot and tell you you are wasting everyone's time. My advice...try to get ANYONE else.
Very hard and strict teacher. But she makes you think and sets a base of knowledge for classes that need Anatomy. She knows her stuff and makes things very interesting. Loved her class hated her tests. You have to study study study for a good grade.
She thinks only her methods of studying works. Most closed minded teacher I have ever had.
DO NOT TAKE THIS "TEACHER"!!!! Talks down to her students, expects you to know whats going on in her head, you are responsible for the entire book yet she doesn't teach the physiology parts because she's above that. Oh, don't even bother asking questions because she will probably rip you apart unless you formulate the question flawlessly:(
3 lec exams + 2 lab exams + case studies + pop quizzes. Those pop quizzes btw are almost EVERYDAY. Don't slack off! The physiology in the book is good but note this... they are NOT on the exam. ALL anatomy. 1st exam was ok but 2nd & 3rd.... o____o" I dunno how I passed this class 'cause I know I failed her final lol. We think she curves grades.
AVOID TAKING HER!!! Doesn't teach, basically goes thru textbook each lecture and tells you what not to study. Talks to herself and gets confused with what she's talking about. Expects you to know everything about anatomy. Goes off on too many tangents. "Know it all" professor. Makes you feel stupid, especially if u attempt to ask questions. AVOID!!
If you want an easy elective this is not the class to take. This has by far been the toughest class I've ever taken. Reading the book is a must and participation is a must. She's not approachable during lecture, however she will answer any questions during office hours. If you haven't taken Anatomy good luck passing this class.
This was the hardest class I have ever taken. I studied at least 3 hours every day and was lucky to get a B+. Dr. Carter is a genius however she expects you to know what she knows. The test questions are EXTREMELY tricky. Don't expect much help from her, she makes you feel like your stupid when you ask a question. I would never take her again.
Let me start by saying I believe in putting in a lot of effort for a good grade. I wasn't expecting this to be an easy class by any means but this professor is horrible at her job. She doesn't lecture for the first half of the semester, gives a very vague outline for exams, I had to teach myself everything through the book and still struggled.
I read the book before each class meeting and was amazed that how she would explain the material. I hated the some topics like cranial nerves and the additional reading. I enjoy the lab and she's more down to earth and approachable. Attendance is very important. I glad I took this course, lots of study tips.
One of the hardest Biology classes offered at CSUS. Dr. Carter is a tough professor and expects a lot from her students. MUST read before each class - by the end of the semester, she expects her students to of read and memorize the entire Neural anatomy book. Tests are hard and can be tricky. Very stressful class and requires tons of studying.
She is a tough teacher. If you study for any other class like you do in hers you will get A's in every class. She enjoys when people go to her office hours because it shows dedication. Be prepared to read the book.
Low patience, terrible instructor in many ways. Avoid for your own sake.
Spends a lot of time in lecture telling students that they need to study or they will fail, taking time out of lecture for it. She barely goes over material in class. You have to teach yourself. Amount of material she expects you to cover in one day is substantial. First exam covered chapters 1-9. To pass you need to be able to put in a lot of time
Best mentality going into this class is don't quit. This class is gonna suck and push you to the brink. But if you keep studying hard and act like each test is a new day for a new grade you will succeed. The first quiz will be on the 2nd week of class 50pts do well so you set a good tempo. And if you don't read you fail, Lab will save your grade.
When you read, watch your time and make good use of it. A little bit every day and you'll be surprised how well you move along. The previous comments should give you a pretty good idea what she's like lol. Extra credit quizzes and a few other opportunities are your friend, believe me. Regular small commitment and everyone will be fine.
Is great outside of class. Very informative. Get ready to start reading the book. She will make references outside of the chapter reading and tells you that you should read ahead. The way she teaches you is different from how she tests you. Form groups asap. If you don't need this class for your major, I don't recommend taking it. Good Luck!
Worst teacher I've ever had. She doesn't teach anything, you teach yourself. Be prepared to memorize every detail of almost everything in the textbook. She is inconsistent, rude, unapproachable, and can't write test questions that anyone can understand. Half the battle is deciphering her bad grammar, misspelled words and typos. NEVER TAKE HER
This class w/ Carter was the best investment in my edu. Not easy, but it made all of my related classes MUCH easier to do well in b/c after this course I KNEW my stuff. Respect her and other student's time, ask INTELLIGENT questions (ie. ones that reflect you did the reading.) She will not hold your hand. Put the time in and its worth it.
Professor Sprowls no doubt knows the information she teaches in BIO 123 but her attitude and tone of voice comes off as imposing and a little bit preachy. Her discussion section is meant to let students explore their own education but she does little to facilitate the information. STUDY AND TAKE CONTROL OF THE INFORMATION and you will do well.
gets off track really easily, needs to be more organized - missing one question of a quiz brings down your grade it sucks doesn't always explain things right
Hate to hear it hate to see it, had her for Lab... Awful professor. Be prepared to teach yourself. Doesn't reply to emails. Oh, and as for online quizzes, she has modules with correct answers, and half the time the correct answer comes up as "wrong." With her as a teacher your wasting your time and money.
Sometimes she gets off topic and class is boring but she does give out the information you need for quizzes and exams. She is really understanding and will work with you if you are in need of something. Book wasn't really needed. Great Professor!
Good luck !! She clearly knows her material, but has trouble teaching it. You will be your own teacher with her. she may come off a little rude sometimes but highly doubt that's her intention. I failed because I lost motivation due to corona, if you have self discipline you'll be just fine honestly. Good luck.
Reason for low rating was due to her inability to teach properly and not clearly tell you what is expected on her exam. Came unprepared in class and mostly read from her powerpoints so most of you're learning is on your own. She is nice and caring, assignments are super easy but ruined the whole biology learning experience.
I was excited for this class looking foward to it in the beginning of the semester but she ruined the whole learning experience for me. SHE TAKES FOREVER to respond to emails you are lucky if she responds. She does not know how to teach properly. She is rude to her students, and just avoid her and take a better class where u will learn.
Lectures too fast + doesn't record lectures for people who need to get a better understanding of material. Turned the chat off in zoom meetings taking away our only way to collaborate with other students to ask for help. The only way for students to ask questions is to interrupt her and she gets very mad about that but we can't type them.
By far the worst professor I have ever had. She doesn't care for her students. She gets angry when we asks questions. Lecture's too fast.
Professor Sprowls was my only my lab professor not for lecture. Three exams, lots of quizzes, didn't communicate what she wanted for assignments/what was on exams. Very hard to get a hold of outside of class. Not a "tech-savvy" prof, couldn't use Canvas that well. I would not recommend if you have the choice, if not her class is bearable.
She is probably one of the worst professors I've ever had. The class is self paced with A LOT of quizzes and 4 Exams. She is awful at answering emails or questions because she gets very defensive. She is not "tech-savy" so it makes online learning difficult. Textbook is optional but I suggest getting it because you're gonna be teaching yourself.
do not take her class if you can help it. horrible teacher and DOES NOT respond to emails. online learning in her class has been the absolute worst, i have had a horrible experience and would not recommend her to my worst enemy
This is the worst professor I've had. Do not take this class. She is extremely rude and disrespectful towards her students. She's unprepared and doesn't know how to teach. I tried using the book, but it didn't help at all because most of her questions on quizzes don't even make sense. She doesn't reply to emails.
This professor did not go by her syllabus. A week before finals she assigned 7 quizzes and a few minutes before the finals she was changing times and points causing students to be confused. the exam was badly organized and was full of repeated questions and of pictures we could not see. I don't recommend anyone to take this class.
If you get placed in her class.... SWITCH ASAP. She's so difficult doesn't even teach, assigns so much work. Her quizzes/exams make no sense and isn't even on the notes. she's rude as hell, just switch trust me
Very rude and unapproachable to students. Never replies back to emails. Majority of tests and quizzes are not based off of the lectures. Be prepared to self-learn throughout this course alone, or do not take this professor at all!
RUN, she is a Handful. Totally disrespectful to students in class. She only assigns quizzes and exams(& 2 essay assignments). She left us to figure everything out, those exams will drop your score badly. The exams had topics from sections we hadn't even started. It was one big mess, save yourselves.
Professor Sprowls was very rude towards classmates in class. Be ready to teach yourself and read the book. Her lectures are very confusing . The exams don't even make sense. Please switch out!!!!
This professor is hard to reach and if she responds then its hours later. She makes all assignments just quizzes and if you get one bad grade on a exam or quiz it is hard to get back up.
she literally just doesn't teach. she sits there and give you old lecture slides and just assigns test. easy money for her
The course is an intro class that is extremely hard. I have received A's in all of my science courses for the past six years and even got accepted into UCD as a bio major. I graduated at the top of my class. The point of this though is that the class itself is taught through a book and power points are useless and the exam/ quiz layout is WEIRD.
A couple of people dropped in the beginning. MCPs are just confusing. Not enough time for tests. I have the book (recommended) but I question if Im gonna pass anyway. Quizzes are ok, be prepared to get a lot of 8/10 s. I have a C rn and Ive only taken one exam so far. :(
DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS. Every test is worded in the weirdest way possible. The tests barely and I mean barely contain whats taught from her. PowerPoint presentations are flooded with unnecessary information that dont help prepare for test and quizzes. Multiple classmates reported her to the school. Tests have insufficient time limit. Felt rushed
Just awful. Dont take this class. If I were you I would look for another bio10 teacher.
I am not surprised at the number of people have come on here to warn you about Professor Sprowls. I thought I was the only one who seemed like the tests were off subject but it is clear that I am not. If you try to reach out to her she does not respond or will speak about a totally different subject. Please save yourself and your GPA look elsewhere
I don't really feel like I learned anything, effort they put in is very little. They do seem nice though from emails, but that's it. There goes my grades...
She is a TERRIBLE professor. She has no clue what she is talking about and she has the audacity to make her course asynchronous which shows show lazy and unprofessional of a professor she is. Please drop this class because you will save yourself big time. Youll learn more from peers rather than her which is sad. DONT TAKE THIS CLASS
This professor is the worst I don't understand how she became a professor with the lectures and grammar she has. The tests/quizzes are confusing because of the way she words them so you have to guess what she wants as the answer. 80% of what she says in class is not on any of the quizzes or test
She uses a lot of off-topic examples and all of my quizzes are 8 out of 10
Very test heavy. Majority of questions on tests are confusing and don't make sense.
Tests don't match up to lecture nor book material.
For a beginning biology course, she makes this extremely difficult. You can read the book and go over the slides/modules yet none of her questions on the tests make sense. This class is like 80% test dependent. Half of the questions on those tests have horrendous grammar to the point you have to guess to what she is saying. Find another teacher.
Don't. This class is useless, waste of gas, and energy. She reads off the slides and makes irrelevant comments. In my experience, I get disrespected by her when I ask about anything. Last time I try to mention any comments or concerns because shell straight yup yell at you as if you were her kid. A high school education is better than her.
If you get this professor, RUN. There is a reason her rating is so low. She is rude and does not take criticism well. She will not listen to you and her quizzes make no sense, only a few things come from the note. Join a discord server for this class with fellow classmates, some people really help. I recommend the app Socratic for help on quizzes.
I would have to say Sprowls has decent lectures and I do feel like explains some topics very well. But when it come to our quizzes and test their awful, her grammar sucks and words her exam/test questions very open ended. It makes it hard cause the question itself is very generalized but the answers are generalized as well so its hard to answer
Find literally any other professor for Bio if you could. Her lectures feel pointless because the majority of her topics on her lectures are not on the exam. Her lectures are just so broad while her exams nitpick and go for the little details. Just find someone else if you can, then if not good luck.
Dr. Sprowls is an amazing human being - kind, caring, and always willing to give extensions. She is also a phenomenal lecturer. That being said, pray to whichever deity you believe in. Quizzes and exams are insanely hard, covering minutia which is not covered in the textbook or lectures. It is only by divine intervention that you can pass.
She was a good professor and her lectures were understandable. However, her lectures rarely reflect on the tests and her grammar is not very good. She does NOT give extra credit and is not clear with assignment directions. I would recommend taking another professor.
DONT TAKE ROSALEE CARTER SPROWLS...save yourselfs. This lady is "teaching" an intro to bio course, and is treating it like med school. Literally run. Her exams are written like a 2nd grader, (in terms of grammar) and are on things that she didn't "teach". She also has an inflated ego; and NEEDS to be humbled.
Test questions irrelevant to what she talks about in lecture and reading
just saying hi and bye to this professor, she is very terrible with her grammar and irrelevant questions
Great person, not so great teacher. Went over the syllabus, explicitly stated (on the syllabus as well) that attendance was not mandatory but begins to take attendance without releasing an email or statement saying that she would. DOES NOT CHECK EMAILS. Unwilling to respond and help with lockdown browser issues (there's a lot). AND SO much more..
These so called quizzes don't match any of the lectures, have horrible grammar making it very hard to understand quizzes. The notes she shows during lectures are out of order and she is constantly going far ahead for a topic we have yet to reach. Overall horrible class would NOT take it again. Find another professor if you want to pass.
Gives the impression that she cares about what she's teaching. That's where the good ends, most of your grade is based on quizzes. Sometimes the answers for her quizzes make no sense, and makes it seem like there could be multiple correct answers for one question. Says that attendance isn't mandatory yet grades people on attendance.
Worst professor I've had by far. I feel bad because she has dyslexia, but she cannot properly phrase her quizzes. The quizzes happen about 2-3 times per week and account for over half of your grade. She also takes up too much of class-time ranting about things that aren't appropriate to the subject matter. Avoid taking her if you can.
RUUUUUUN. When I read her RMP I thought everybody was just complaining but she really is not a good professor. The amount of grammar mistakes she makes leaves me scratching my head every 30 secs. Slides are all over the place good luck learning off of them. Quizzes and Tests are not clear at all and are way too hard for a GE Biology class.
TAKE ANY OTHER PROF! most of your grade comes from the 2-3 weekly quizzes which have LOTS of grammar and spelling errors. Lecture is a story time about her life. Went to her office hours for help in the class and she recommended I change careers.. uses a lockdown browser for quizzes/exams that literally isn't compatible with Macbooks. #HumbleHer
I thought everyone was just whining when I read the reviews before arriving to campus, but within the first 2 weeks, I dropped her class and joined another Bio10 class, if you can try to take another professor. From what I hear she covers the chapters too fast, leading to no learning, leading to people not even attending class. Switch if possible.
Switch professors ASAP. A lot of quizzes and exam. Her grammar was bad that I would have to guess what she was trying to say. GE classes are supposed to be easy but this GE class was hard. It wasn't worth my time showing up to her lectures. Just save yourself and find a better professor
Switch professors ASAP. She just rambles in all of the lectures and doesn't make any sense. There is no point in going to class because she makes no sense and will go on about pointless topics. The exams are extremely hard because they are worded horribly and lead back to no reading or lecture material.
She reads off the slides and never actually teaches. She always has wrong answers on quizzes and makes them confusing on PURPOSE. Even if you do know the material, she makes you guess the answers. For a subject pretty easy, she makes it hard. 3-5 quizzes per week, she talks about things that won't even it. Would never take again.
Expects you to be at LEAST 5 chapters ahead of her lectures. Quizzes were so hard I wanted to cry. Makes you feel inferior if you try to correct her and does not understand the material herself. Read the textbook and pray every night if you do plan to take her and plan your all nighters too. Lectures were based off of her repeating the textbook.
Save your time, GPA, money, and sanity. Pros: Seems caring Posts lecture slides Will extend assignments if lecture content is not "taught" Cons: Does not teach what is on slides, quizzes, or textbook Quizzes are nowhere near what you go over in class Yaps. She means well, the lectures can be hard to follow and I find that a lot of the time material in the quizzes differs heavily from the lecture. If youre already strong in bio this class is manageable but if not it can be a bit much.
After reading all these ratings, I went in thinking that it wouldn't be that bad, and to be honest, it was okay at most. Dr. Sprowls is very caring and does care for her students, but her teaching methods and lectures can be confusing most of the time. Her lectures go into what you are learning, but she tends to be off-topic sometimes.
She is super sweet and caring, but the quizzes are so different from her lectures. She said the textbook isn't required, but I ended up having to buy it halfway through the semester because I wasn't doing well on the quizzes. The quizzes make you feel dumb, especially when they don't align with your class notes and time spent studying.
Okay first off, where was she 70% of the time? The lectures didn't match the quizzes, MCPs, or tests. She wasn't even in class most of the time. She kind of yaps whenever we would have class. All the questions will be different for every retake. You get 2-4 quizzes a week! She does post her lectures/material on Canvas though! Very caring as well!
Avoid this professor at all costs. Her lectures are a mess, with frequent grammar and spelling errors, and she covers the material too fast for any real learning. Quizzes and exams are unnecessarily difficult and confusing. Unstuck study could be a lifesaver for studying, but this class is still best avoided.
She is the worst professor I have ever seen in my whole college career, I want to come back after 3 years and confirm she is for sure the worst professor in CSUS.
