She's very intimidating at 1st, she is knowledgeable and knows her material, but way too strict. Horrible grade guidelines. Quizzes and exams are very hard. Paces thru material and expects way to much. Her grading policy is ridiculous! Do not recommend taking her, unless you are willing to give 200% in her class.
If you care about your future and want to get into nursing school DO NOT Take her! Her grading is all over the place, she marks off for things that don't matter and when the majority of the class fails she gives the class a lecture about how we aren't studying. She is very demeaning. She shouldn't be teaching.
Shes No Joke, She expects a lot, but she gives enough help so that you succeed, but how well you want to succeed is on you. Study Her Slides!! They are your life line to passing. If you can keep up, you will know chem. She is Pretty Sexy too, hope my Gf looks that good at her age, makes it easier to come to class lol.
The LRC was packed on a daily basis w/ half the class spending hours trying to teach ourselves chemistry.I get it, it's not an easy subject but the way she was teaching was basically putting some slides together, lightly touching on each subject then throwing us in to the sharks tank. I felt helpless in this class. Passed w/ a C. There goes by 4.0
Dr. Gibbons is a tough teacher. But I respect her for it. In reality her tests are not that hard, you just dont get partial credit, so you have to know the material spot on.
She comes out the gate with her expectations, study and learn things cold and you will do well on quizzes and tests. Gives a quiz a week during spring sem and no partial credit. I respect her desire to teach at a higher level and I believe she raises the bar as a professor. I wouls reccomend to the serious student and not someone who wants an easyA
She is a extremely tough professor, however, that being said, she thwarts you into really working hard. Weekly quizzes worth 25 points (that you have no clue what she is going to quiz you on) and 2 exams plus the final (she gives a thorough review for them) I did learn a ton from her, still the hardest class I have taken to date.
Really tough teacher, however, if you study her lectures and pay attention to what she tells you, you will be fine. Nursing students need this class, so be prepared to study EVERYDAY, Be on top of all the material. Her quizzes are tough. If you take this this class seriously, you can do it. Don't take anything else with it though cus its a lot.
No nonsense teaching with plenty of out of the box examples/stories. If you can survive the first couple weeks and adjust to her level of expectation you will do well in the class. She had been one of my favorite science instructors so far and it doesn't hurt that she is pretty smokin hot. :) take her class you won't be sorry.
She is difficult and clarity can be an issue but she provides the best test review I have ever had. You must show all your work and if your work is wrong but the answer is right, no points. Class is demanding but with no chem experience previous and a lot of studying I still pulled a solid B but not an easy class. Legit 18hrs of studying a week
She was hard on us because she wants us to know the material. If you take a class and don't know anything useful when its over then you wasted your time. She cares about her students, thats why she's hard on people but she is an overall great professor. Chemistry isn't the easiest subject in the world anyway!
Dr. Gibbons is extremely bright and sharp. She can see through and read people like a book. If you do not study like you are supposed to then you will not pass the class. If you study and work hard then you will find you will be rewarded. She respects hard work and does not care for laziness. If you are looking to slack off take a different class.
I LOOOOOOOVE Dr. Gibbons. I had her for G. Chem 102 and O Chem 112&113. She knows her chemistry and knows how to make you learn it for yourself. O chem is definitely not an easy class but she made the exams very straight forward. I would recommend her to anyone that is serious about a career in chemistry.
Dr.G is a is highly misunderstood by students. Many of my peers feel entitled to believe that if they just show up and do some work that they are well deserving of an above average grade. That being said, if you don't b.s. your way into thinking that you are deserving of a good grade and just put in the work she will recognize your efforts.
Dr.G is a clear/concise instructor. To her "friends" /family who come to this site to tease her I can assure you that you are all wasting your time. Its quite petty that you all don't have more productive things to do with your time. If you must know, she is an incredibly tough instructor but she's there for us and helps us become better students.
Dr. Gibbons knows the material extremely well and she makes it known that chem is a very hard subject. Her lectures are packed with information so don't miss class. The exams she gives are multiple choice but NO partial credit, ever. If you do not study you will NOT pass. Be prepared to work hard, but you'll understand chem well by semester's end.
Took Dr G for Ochem and it was by far the hardest class I have ever taken. She's is a very well respected professor as she is head of the chemistry department at MSJC. She cares for students who care about their education. Some stduents don't like the fact that she uses powerpoint, but she involves the class and is always asking guiding questions.
Came from San Diego, been to 3 Colleges & University, I know what a tough teacher is! Professor Gibbons is not a tough teacher. Students think she is tough because they probably did not study & did bad in the class - blaming the teacher. I was never an A student. At the end of the semester I got an A, & got the highest points in the class.
Great Professor if you are a Science major but she will make you work for a passing grade. For Example, our class was standing room only the beginning of the class 30+ students and at finals week we had maybe 10 students. She is a great professor and will push you to succeed but you need to earn the grade. Also, she does not give half credit
Be ready to work your tail off for there is no room for slacking! She wants to see ALL of her students succeed b/c she sees potential in every single one of her students so she will push you to do your very best! LECTURE SLIDES ARE YOUR BFFs! If there is an SI session, TAKE ADVANTAGE OF IT! Pls don't feel intimidated by her!! Dr. G is amazing (:
Very strict and very rigorous. If you truly want to learn Chemistry, you should really consider Dr.G. She is very intimidating and is very honest; no partical credit or extra credit. You MUST know everything from Chem101. She truly gives you everything you need to succeed; you must keep up with everything. Lecture/Lecture Slides are key to passing.
She is by far the worst professor I have ever received. her grading is all over the place and she consistently blows past important class material that we might need emphasized for a Test. But worst of all If you have a job or anything else going on outside the class she wants you to drop everything and stick to this class. DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS!!!
Truly an amazing professor. She is strict and scary at times, but truly knows her stuff. Take her only if you are serious and prepared to work hard. HIGHLY recommend for all chem majors.
Doctor Gib is one of the BEST professors at this lousy "college." She is one of the brightest minds I have ever been in the presence of. She will make you learn even if you dont want to. you will care about chemistry like youve never cared about anything in your life. She is AMAZING so dont take her class if you wont be a good student to her
I love Dr G's teaching style. She'll let you know up front what will be on the tests and will make them on material we learn DO NOT pay attention to the 1 star rating, that person is just bitter. It is totally possible to pass her class. She isnt even tough shes just not an easy A like most profsrs at MSJC, that is the only reason ppl r mean to her
She is the most amazing professor I have ever had. Yes, she is a tough grader but all you have to do is study and you will be just fine. She is willing to work worth you if you do not get something even if it is from a lower chemistry class. I can honestly say that I understand chemistry.
Gibbons is a very strict and hard professor. After tons and tons of homework and power points, no one knew what to study for. So, everyone would end up doing bad. She doesn't give any hints either she just tells us to study from our homework and power points which doesn't help at all. Her tests are ridiculously hard too and worth about 80% of grade
Truly amazing professor. She is intimidating and strict, but very clear on what she wants. As long as you make the effort to study and understand, the class will go well. HIGHLY RECOMMEND if you really want to learn Chem.
Don't recommend.
Who ever just posted that she is very strict it is not true she is just slightly demanding and she literally copies and pasts from the lecture slides to the test! Also there is no homework besides the labs you don't finish and studying! She is encouraging and wants to see you pass but at the same time she wants you to learn ! BEST PROFESSOR EVER!
Great instructor as far as her teaching goes. Horrible professor, awkwardly social, and very angry all the time making it hard to learn from her. She treats all her students like a bunch of kids. I wouldn't recommend her to any future student.
Dr. G is truly one of a kind. With years of experience, I can say she is the best professor I've ever had. She cares about her student's academic career and is open to help those that need it. She is not rude just direct , and if you can set your ego aside and are willing to learn she can pull out the best student in you. Recommend 100%.
Great teaching but not worth the nasty negative attitude and energy she projects on all her students.
Dr. G is a great prof, well-rounded in all ways! Her teaching style: hands-down best of all my science/math profs! Interactive and focussed style of communication. Ties in old material so its refreshed, VERY clear on what to study for tests. Offers lots of helpful supplemental study material. She's not mean, naturally caring actually--strict is ok!
She is a very tough grader but she is super kind! She does tend to get angry but only when the class is not participating, or not studying! She wants everyone to pass but also understand! Just work hard and study! Shes amazing teacher and always answers your questions! She also knows the subject VERY WELL!
I was nervous before her course due to hearing a few opinions. I am SO glad I took her now. Honestly, if you've ever had a boss in the real world, her mild strictness will feel nice. She is strict with safety (prelabs) and ensuring you gain an education in her class for SCIENCE. If she were male, ppl would assess her twice as positively.
amazing instructor ! just work hard
She's amazing. Labs take a LOT of time. Do thorough prelabs days prior. Lab tests lowest % in class; take extensive notes. B4 course take notes on lab procedures & all chem-tests in manual to help labs & Quals. IR specs are huge points. Pay close attn to report examples she gives! Copy writing formula & enhance. Know reagent AND solvents for tests.
I personally enjoyed the way she teaches. She is firm/clear about what she expects. I thought she was a great teacher. However, I did not appreciate the way she discourages her students so early in the semester. I can sympathize for many students who felt intimidated and discouraged.
I took Dr. G for Chem 107. She expects her students to try. She doesn't hand out grades. I read a few reviews where people said they didn't know what to study, she literally tells you what to look over and hands out a study guide. Did I spend a crap ton of time in the LRC? Yes. Did I utilize office hours? Yes. Did I spend hours doing homework? Yes.
Dr. Gibbons is one of my favorite professor.
I honestly probably won't pass her Organic Chemistry class, but it's been quite the adventure with her. She is VERY MUCH a tough love teacher and grades with an iron fist, however it might be the only class that has pushed me beyond my limits to prepare me for my science major. Sure, she may get snappy, but she works to benefit you in the long run.
I enjoyed the professor's intense personality, and she does want everyone to do well. The way she lectures was difficult for me and I was always left feeling confused or completely lost. I had a hard time trying to figure out what I actually had to know. This class requires you to have A LOT of outside time to study/ learn everything.
SHE'S AWESOME
AMAZING PERSON. TAKE THIS COURSE
My favorite professor 100%
Don't be fooled. Yes, she is difficult and yes she will make you work for your grade regardless of your major. However, she is fair 100% and tells you exactly what you need to study for the exams. Any chemistry class requires time, effort, and lots of repetition. HIGHLY recommend for any STEM or nursing major to prepare you for future challenges.
I gave this class a chance after seeing Dr. Gibbons high review scores. While I liked her as a person and the intensity she had, this was THE hardest class I have taken and Dr. Gibbons piled on tons of homework right before exams and put too much time into reprimanding pep talks when the class was obviously confused. Unnecessarily stressful.
I'm going to be honest, going into this class with her was scary. She is a very straight forward person, but she really cares about her students if she knows you're trying. She gives you everything that will be on your exams, you just have to put in the effort. Her labs are hard, but I can guarantee you will be a better writer because of it.
Very confident in herself (cool) but was hard to approach. Workload is very heavy, its chemistry. Daily quizzes with given info on what to study. Very extreme: nice and cheesy one moment then extremely angry and rude the next. Was not worth the unnecessary stress she put onto her students by yelling at and ridiculing people who struggled.
Dr. Gibbons is clear about her expectations from the beginning. Chemistry is not an easy class, but she is ALWAYS available for questions and concerns via email responding quickly. She lets you know what will be on the test, and how to effectively prepare for the exams. Opportunities for extra credit are should be taken advantage of.
The grading for this class is brutal. Professor Gibbons will mark questions completely wrong for messy handwriting that was legible and incorrect significant figures. Avoid answering incorrectly in class or she will publicly shame you. Focus on asking questions over email. Her lectures are good. The tests are based on lecture and homework.
Grades based off quizzes and exams only. Lab work was not put in grade book until very end of semester, hence not knowing where you stand. No hw, no extra credit. Speaks to students like children as if we arent paying to be here. Very pessimistic. Will be ridiculed if you answer wrong. Definitely clear about expectations, just a tad harsh.
Incredible prof and very inspiring. If you do not put in the work or time, she has no tolerance for it. You must put in 110% effort LITERALLY. She does not pad grades, what you earn is what you get. Can be very blunt, but do not take it personally. She wants to help her students improve. You will and MUST learn chemistry in her class to pass!
just be ready to work work work
Crashed her class; Not an easy A but not impossible; want to learn Chemistry ABSOLUTELY recommend! Straight forward, direct, fair, and clear of expectations. Wants her students to succeed; Absolutely takes the extra time to help, but you MUST put in the effort and show you are trying as well. Would absolutely take her again for Organic Chemistry!
Dr. Gibbon's is a great teacher who wants you to learn the material. Her tests are all or nothing on the questions but lets you know exactly what will be one them. It was not an easy class but I would take her again if I had to take more sciences. Overall great class but you better be ready to study hard.
If you want to actually LEARN chemistry, take it with Dr. G. She WILL make you work for it. This class is NOT an easy A. But it isn't impossible. There are quizzes every class period, 3 exams, and a final. Chem isn't easy and it's obvious that those who rate Dr. G poorly don't put the time or effort in. I would take her again for Ochem.
Chemistry is a hard topic, regardless if it's general or organic. Expect these classes to be difficult. I'm very grateful to have had her for 113. Really wished I hadn't listened to the negative reviews of children and taken her before. Expectations are clear, put the effort in and she will give it right back. If you truly want to learn, take Dr. G
If you put in the work you will get a good grade. Quizzes at the beginning of every class. All test questions are from the lecture. Make sure you use proper sig figs or you wont get credit. Gibbons doesn't do partial credit. She really wants you to understand Chemistry and she is very blunt and straightforward so dont take offense. Go to mentorship
In a word, Dr. G is AWESOME. Yes, she will challenge the hell out of you but if you're going into STEM you gotta learn to embrace that. It is totally possible to get an A and thrive in her class. She explicitly states what she expects on exams and reports and gives EC. If you want to do well in your STEM career, I would highly recommend taking her.
Dr. Gibbons is the best professor that I have ever had. She is very knowledgable and cares about her students. I learned a lot not only about organic chemistry but also about good study skills that will help me succeed once I transfer. I would not recommend missing lectures. If you put in the work, she will definitely give what you deserve.
She is the BEST chem teacher you will EVER find. She makes things soooo easy to understand and yes she does make you work for the grade but its legit a stem course, what do you expect? I would take her for every class if I could. I really learned what I needed to, and I feel prepared for my next chem courses. Totally doable and she is a chem god
Wish I had her throughout my entire chemistry sequence. She's very clear about expectations and pushes you to become a better student through hard work and effort! Pay attention in lectures, make sure you understand the material, don't procrastinate, and don't be afraid to ask questions. I learned a lot from her in just one semester, take Dr. G!
very difficult to work with and does not put her students first
She is the worst teacher I have ever had. Her instructions are extremely unclear. She is rude and does not answer questions well. Whatever you do do not take this class. Her lectures are so boring. There is so much information, and she must not have transferred over to online very well. I repeat do not take this class!
Doesn't explain equation calculations clearly, very confusing. Better off watching youtube videos then watching long, boring lectures. Doesn't answer questions directly, refers you back to unclear pre-typed instructions in her condescending manner. Expect to do many worksheets & quizzes with due dates unlocked & locked daily, 3-5x/per wk.
Makes you upload scratch sheet of paper showing work for test. If you do not upload work in that specific time she will give you an F. If for some reason you do not round an equation or miss a simple step in the scratch sheet of paper she will mark the answer wrong even if you get the answer correct in the electronic test. Real Power Tripper !
I wouldn't even bother going to chem at night if you need help with her class. If you ask her a question she'll get mad and say " i'm not answering that" or "are you new here?" it's disrespectful to whoever asked those questions since that's what tutoring is for.
Dr. Gibbons is one of the best teachers I have taken. She comes off intimidating at first, but she truly cares about her students and is tough on them for THEIR benefit. She makes you learn the material and teaches it VERY well. Attend her lectures and participate! Tests are not easy but are fair. Study slides and worksheets and you will succeed.
She is smart. Not a good professor though. It's her world we just all live in it.
Dr. Gibbons is a professor that cares for students. Yes, she is tough but she constantly pushes you to work harder because she knows what students are capable of. Put in the work, ask questions, and follow her instructions and you will get good grades. Take short-cuts and complain about assignments then you will get a less desired grade.
Professor Gibbons is by far the most condescending professor I have ever had. Her WORKLOAD is very HEAVY & HARD TO MANAGE W/ OTHER CLASSES. She is great at making you feel completely and utterly stupid when you ask for help or clarification. She has no patience and is quick to send announcements ragging on the class. DON'T TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!
She is fair & clear about her class structure from the start. Chemistry is not an easy subject. You can have a prof who is laid back, leaving you to learn the subject on your own. Or Dr. G, someone who will walk you through step by step. I feel I will be prepared when I need to take organic chem. Videos substituted for reading chapters.
DR. Gibbons is strict & very clear from day one what she expects. She wants you to actually LEARN chemistry so you can't be a student who"wings it". Easy to communicate with & actually help you. Exams/Quiz are all based off of lectures. CHEM at night is a huge blessing! It made the course easier to understand & learn. TAKE ADVANTAGE & you'll pass!
A very knowledgeable, and caring professor. She offers excellent mentorship program, like Chem at night, and even offer her personal time to meet your needs. She goes above and beyond to help her students to succeed. She's a dream professor to anyone who seeks success. I highly recommend Dr Gibbons for Chemistry! She's the best professor I've had.
DO NOT TAKE HER. She is the worst professor I have ever taken. EXTREMELY disrespectful. Does not care about students or whether or not theyre learning. Speaks to you like youre a child. Super condescending. Unrealistic expectations. Shes thinks she is all that. I wouldnt recommend her to my worst enemy. Avoid at all costs
She is extremely rude. She has no patience/understanding for anyone in the class. She is condescending and will make you feel stupid if you ask any questions at all. If you do not understand something don't even ask the question because she will get upset at you and be rude in front of the whole class. do not take this class!!!
This class is difficult, but it is not impossible. Dr. Gibbons is a fantastic teacher!! She wants her students to LEARN Chemistry, not google the answers. She cares deeply about her students. DO NOT listen to negative comments! The Mentorship program (Chem at Night) is INCREDIBLE and SO helpful. Don't be lazy and work for your grade, you will pass!
Dr. Gibbons is a great professor!!! She explains really well in the lectures and gives out examples to better your understanding. She replies right away with emailed questions and gives positive feedback. They also offer Chem at Night Mentorship which REALLY helps. Take her class, she's awesome!!!
Dr Gibbons is an excellent, very knowledgeable, and very fair to all students. She doesn't deserve anything negative because she taught us very well as a real teacher should. If you're looking for someone to spoon feed you, she's definitely not the one for you. She wants her students to learn and succeed base on their effort and hard work. Take her
Passionate about her job. Tough for intro but it lags a good foundation if you need chemistry later on. Ignore the negative feedback from the lazy bums that took her. Shes very responsive and always willing to help, just put the work in and youll do fine.
I expected a heavy workload, but this Prof went overboard with the amount of work you have to turn in. CUMULATIVE FINAL at the end of the semester about a week after Exam 3. She doesn't give enough time for Exams and makes the questions harder and take longer than the 2 mins. she allows to answer. Even if this was your only class, you won't pass.
DO NOT select this "Dr." as your professor. Not even if you really need the course! To say she assigns SO much homework WEEKLY is an understatement. She literally sets up her students for failure, grades hard with NO CLEAR instructions, & does not help when you ask for it... nor does she take constructive criticism well when SHE asks for it.
Dr. Gibbons is amazing. Heres why, she: cares about your success, takes her PERSONAL time weekly to assist students during chem at night, & she always responds to emails quickly. This was my first course back & I was able to do well because I worked HARD and Dr. Gibbons equipped me with tools to succeed. Study, ask Qs, go to 'chem at night'!
Do not take this class with this professor!!!! She doesnt explain things well and her lecture videos bore me to death!!! She is condescending and passive aggressive. She gives a lot of HW on top of that her test are impossible to pass. If you miss placed a dismal in the scratch sheet of paper the answer is automatically wrong and the final is impo
Professor Gibbons is an amazing human. She gives great examples to explain information. She makes learning chemistry fun. She responds quickly to emails and is available for tutoring through the mentorship program called Chemistry at night, which is so helpful! As long as you're studying and doing the work like you're supposed to, you'll do great.
She is information heavy - for example, a simple assignment will have 3 paragraphs of instructions, but the REAL instructions of what she wants uploaded will be hidden in 1 single sentence throughout those paragraphs. It seems she does not work with students, and its her way or the highway. She is very Passive Aggressive and is up on a high horse.
She tries to trick you on your tests and quizzes. She'll make the answers so similar to eachother and change one little word that is easy to overlook. It's a game to her, but she's playing with our grades and that's not okay. I've studied my butt off and make sure I understand something before I take the quiz, but then i'll get half points
Three words... PICK ANOTHER PROFESSOR! If you are reading this, take my word for it. You will barely pass, even if this is your only class! No time for social life, for your job, or other classes. She want's you to live & breathe chemistry, and if it's not your major, go with someone else because she expects you to dedicate your life like she did
Chemistry isn't nearly as difficult a subject as she makes it. Tests require absolute perfection with no partial credit, homework is graded equally difficult, and she is not nearly as patient as she will claim. You will learn an abundance of information which will help for future classes, but I'm sure there are other teachers to pick from.
Simple typos or interchangable jargon in your work will get you docked, at minimum, a quarter of your points. You'll be studying upwards 3-4 topics a week- a quiz for every topic, a few worksheets for every topic, on top of weekly homework with 40-50 questions (but the whole assignment is 10 pts.) This was supposed to be an introductory class.
This class is not impossible to pass, but it takes lots of hard work to succeed. Attend tutoring sessions whenever possible. Be prepared to devote lots of time each week to reviewing video lectures and power points, completing assigned worksheets, online homework, and labs. Exams and quizzes were tough. Some assignments were overly complicated.
Dr. Gibbons might be a tough professor, however, this class isn't impossible (and neither is she). Dr. Gibbons truly wants to see her students understand the material and succeed. If you watch lectures, do the assignments and study you'll pass. The questions on tests are from assignments and lectures. I found her to be funny and a very cool person.
Do not choose this professor as your chem teacher. When emailing her about a problem shell attempt to resolve but if not then shell let you know what you did wrong. Even when you email her back that you understand she continues to email you annoyingly. She nitpicks way too much on things that have nothing to do with teaching chem. Dropped.
Find another professor. Shes making an introduction class a lot more complicated than it really should be. Very picky grading, the homework has a lot of content every week, exams are impossible. Also makes you pay $40+ to complete assignments through an external program. If you are busy with other classes I would avoid taking chemistry with her.
Tough grader and overcomplicates things ask for help and she gives off attitude. Wouldnt recommend makes chemistry 100 harder than it is.
I would HIGHLY recommend NOT taking this professor. 15+ hours of work a week, ridiculously hard tests, and your questions being answered by her questioning you. She expects you to attend 4 hours of a group tutoring session each week, plus outside tutoring. Her instructions are confusing, and she tries to trick you, its so stressful.
Her grading is very irratating, every document must be a pdf or you won’t get credit. Which is quite ridiculous even when she has full access to the assignments
EVERYTHING you need to know is in lecture. Go to chem at night!Quick to respond and encouraging with responses. No tricks, she wants to know you understand the material. Not all professors should be "online" instructors(yes i'm implying laziness) but Dr. G is amazing online. Chemistry is hard, so better to have someone who is passionate about it
If you get full credit for most of the assignments, homework, and labs you should be able to pass the class. For the exams just try to average 50% at most and you'll be good. She has clear instructions for everything, if you don't follow them to a T she will dock points. If you ever email her for help she will only suggest attending chem at night.
If you are trying to pass chemistry at all, DO not take her class. She literally nitpicks every assignment & has made Chem100 way harder than it needs to be. Not only is chem hard its worse when she grades the way she does. She will dock points for everything or even give you 0s. Homework that's only worth 10pts takes almost 2-3 hours to complete.
She is harsh on grading. When you ask her what you did wrong she doesn't clarify appropriately. She over complicates what is supposed to be an introductory class. Will give 0 for a completed assignment if you forget to bold a prompt for a discussion. Doesn't make instructions clear. I've never been so frustrated by a teacher.
This professor is god awful, she assigns HOURS of HW every week. Don't get me wrong, I am a science major so I understand work load but she overloads with HW. The videos she uses prior to quizzes are absolutely no help at all and what she requires for discussion posts is ridiculous for a chemistry class.
Run. She is not horrible but the amount of time you will need will not be enough. If you have no background in chemistry you are unprepared. She wants you to live and breathe chemistry. There were 19 people in class and after I became so disillusioned with the amount of homework and the endless amount of new concepts and withdrew there were 3! 3!!!
hard course in general but caring professor. requires a lot of studying and growth mindset. she helps as much as possible, does 2 weekly zoom nights to go over assignments, replies quickly, doesn't make you feel dumb if you need extra clarification on topics, she wants to help you succeed and grow as a person.
Just wanted to say--I took Dr. G back in 2018. I work in healthcare now. Damn, I wish more ppl took her O-Chem class. She holds you to a high standard and spends hrs of her personal time grading/helping you understand complicated topics. Not an easy A, but you will be a better STEM student + have higher standards once you accomplish her classes.
How much time and effort is wasted to complicate everything .
I'm so tired of this professor. I can't get a break between her constant assignments, lectures, worksheets, quizzes, and homeworks. I can't balance my work schedule with this class. I've literally pulled so many all nighters and I'm so tired of it. This is supposed to be an intro class, It shouldn't be this stressful.
She is awful and has to be the worst professor at MSJC. She grades too hard for an Introduction to Chemistry class. The school should fire her.
She is tough but so is the field that you are going into if you have her as a professor. She was an absolutely wonderful professor.
I had to withdraw from the class because my grade wouldn't rise by the end of the semester. I had so many problems with her throughout the semester, Any time I'd ask a question she would send the directions back and say "Hope this helps". She grades so hard everything has to be perfect and students cant work together on the labs. awful teacher.
Clearly she cannot teach well. She does not seem interested being a chemistry professor. She is just picking up her paycheck.
I would go to another school and not take Dr. Gibbons. She is terrible and grades really harshly. It does not seem like she wants to be there.
I really need the help I could get in chemistry. She does not explain things well. There are better professors out there.
She is way too picky. She also grades too harsh. Find a different professor.
Never take Dr. Gibbons. She is really nasty when it comes to grading.
She should leave MSJC. Even the administration hates her guts!
She does not help her students well enough in class. You will feel sorry taking this professor.
Please remove Dr. Gibbons from the chemistry department. She is an awful passive-aggressive lady who makes up stories about her students.
I know she tries her best to explain the material, but I think she can improve her teaching skills.
This teacher makes every single assignment far more confusing than it needs to be. When asking for help, the help is minimal, and clarification is out the window. The class and content itself isn't even the bad thing, its the teacher's lack of explanation in instructions. Wouldn't recommend unless you have people to bounce ideas off of.
She does not very much. She is really rude and could care less about her students.
What a terrible professor. She is so messy. I wish I never signed up for her class.
She wants you to spend your whole life studying this course. You will be sorry taking this professor.
You are better off taking another professor. She grades very harsh and could care less how a person feels.
She is passive-agressive and cannot be trusted. She thinks she knows how to teach but does not know how.
I automatically got a zero just because I did not highlight the directions. This is so ridiculous.
I know she tries to help, but it would be better if she could teach the class as if she is interested.
Trust me there are better professors than Gibbons. She is so boring and not organized. She tries to help but she can't explain things well enough.
She is really tough when it comes to grading. So watch out she can really lower your grade if you don't study well.
You will regret taking this professor. She is absolutely terrible.
Best advice is to not take her for Chemistry 100 this Fall Semester. She will ruin your GPA fast.
Do not take Dr. Gibbons! She is very hard and her personality is really bad. Read the reviews and listen to what other people think about her. The school does not like her either. Trust me there are better schools out to take chemistry. Avoid Dr. Gibbons!
Yuck! School has already started and I can see how awful and dreadful this professor is going to be.
She does not know how to teach chemistry. She has to be the worst professor I ever had.
I actually got a zero because I did not highlight the directions. Avoid this professor!
She expects too much from her students. She is making this class harder than it is supposed to be. I rather go to another college.
She is doing a terrible job teaching at this school. I wonder if she really still likes her job.
I'm still having difficulty understanding chemistry. Dr. Gibbons can't teach the material well enough.
Just don't do it. Even if she's the only teacher for the semester just wait to take it with someone else, so your GPA doesn't get ruined. Doesn't matter how hard you study, you won't do well with her. She doesn't teach at all! I've had to learn everything from YouTube channels and that still wasn't enough. Worst teacher I've ever had in my life!
After a lab test, I took my scantron home, leading to unfair accusations of cheating and course dismissal by the teacher. Unaware of my rights, I didn't contest this. Now, I realize legal action could've challenged her abuse of power and protected my education at that time. MSJC would of been held responsible for allowing such abuse of power.
I should have looked up this professor before wasting my time and money. She has a lack of understanding or willingness to work with you. I had a technical issue, with a quiz not loading. Once it did I only had 10 minutes left, leaving it incomplete. I reached out to the professor and she was not willing to; understand my issue, or give me credit.
Maybe at one time she was okay with teaching, but it seems like she does not care anymore. She really has a bad reputation on campus. I'm not sure if anyone in administration likes to help her.
I think you will be sorry if you take this professor. Even administration does not like her.
Dr. Gibbons is very blunt on how difficult the class is, she assigns a lot of homework and is super tough grader. However, she offers extra credit opportunities throughout the semester and has VERY thorough exam reviews which are super helpful! Wish she offered in person lectures because she does very well at teaching the concepts in class.
She is teacher who is very blunt. She's SUPER clear about everything she wants done and how SHE grades them to be. She has amazing test reviews, so make sure you study them. Get a good group to help you throughout the semester, it'll really help. PRIORITIZE this class over all others, trust me. You will pass if you stick through and try your best!
She is not doing a good job teaching. She gets an attitude with you if you don't understand the material.
Be careful not to sign up for her class. She makes the class harder than it is supposed to be.
There is no sense taking a professor who does not care about her students. She barely teaches and even if she holds office hours she is of. no help.
Do not EVER take this class, terrible teacher in general.
Take this class if you like terrible teaching and grading methods
All tags I picked are actually the opposite of what she is. Please do not take her class if you want to have a good college experience.
Horrible professor claims false accusations against her students. If you do not understand something she will embarass you infront of the classroom. The school needs to replace her immediately!!!.
She speaks to her students with great disrespect and treats us like animals. She does not see students as people.
One of the worst professors I've ever had. She does have good qualities, for example when she actually lectures I understand her but they're rare. You usually get the worst ppt's ever. Her extra credit is possibly the only way to pass her class. One of the worst things about her is how she treats her students, prep yourself before talking to her.
I have to agree with the comments below. She is a really tough grader and does not treat her class like human beings. She makes up lies about students. She should retire from the college.
Dont take this professor if you value happiness and enjoyment. She is unprofessional, disrespectful, and blatantly rude to all of her students. She is outdated and should not be teaching, but class is self taught anyway. Any review you read on here she is probably worse. She grades hard, and lacks any self awareness of her own classes. DO NOT TAKE
Not the best professor in the department. Lacks enthusiasm and can be dismissive if you struggle. However, the textbook is helpful, and tools like Unstuckstudy can make studying more efficient. Overall, a challenging but manageable class.
i personally don't hold anything against the professor, it seems like she is going through alot health wise, but it was so rough being in that class. not knowing my grade, messed up tests, lots of cancelled classes, feeling disconnected from professor and peers made it so difficult to truly learn. i like the professor, but there was a lot going on.
she is not much help i have to learn the material on my own she is so rude to me and the class.
The worst. Often missed class because of health problems and doesn't seem to care about her students. If you ever have to miss class you will be asked for 1,000 forms of proof. Her teaching style is giving you the work and telling you to do it. Many students, including myself had incidents with her where she was rude or passive aggressive.
Those giving a good rating isa BOT, W/ EXPERIENCE / UNDERSTANDING IN CHEMISTRY (OR) its GIBBONS HERSELF trying to compliment herself. Not only a TERRIBLE professor, a HORRIBLE human. If you want to FEEL DUHM, TALKED DOWN ON, IGNORED, NEVER GET HELP because it's your fault for not understanding. you should take this course with her :)) GOOD LUCK.
ADD ON I withdrew the day before the deadline IN HOPES OF HER BEING BETTER. NOPE!! not at all DONT. EVEN. TRY.. unless you can really handle that.. BUT WHY MAKE IT HARDER FOR YOURSELF?? get someone that actually TEACHES! and DESERVES the label "PROFESSOR". there is a 70% CHANCE YOURE NOT EVEN GOING TO MAKE IT THROUGH THE DOOR ANYWAYS.
waste of a 40 minute commute to SJC for her class IN HOPES OF GETTING THIS CLASS CHECKED OFF. I pray students use this website to understand who's really a good professor and who is the worst. and to really take these comments seriously. ROSALEEN GIBBONS IS THE WORST PROFESSOR EVER and does not deserve that title. HOW IS SHE STILL HERE???
the DAILY situation : "your prelab is wrong fix it on your own" *gets KICKED out* (NEXT DAY) "if you are not here for 2 days you will be kicked / dropped from this class" (NEXT FEW CLASSES) *Everyone leaving because LACK OF HELP* Another situation : "I don't like your handwriting" *almost gets kicked out risking your last chance to stay*
WE NEED PROFESSOR HARMINDER GILL BACK AT MT. SAN JACINTO COLLEGE! NO ONE IS GREATER THAN PROF GILL. GET ADMINISTRATION TO HIRE HIM BACK SOON!
This professor gives it to you raw. you will need to learn Sig-figs / Chemistry. You will need to stay on top of your work on the weekly. You have a duty to be active student. Overall Professor Gibbons was an amazing professor. If exam 1 doesn't go your way, don't give up too early and reach out to her. I Hope to cross paths with her ^_^ J.R
This professor is very knowledgeable, will give you a great education, and she did make an effort to make exams easier. However she is rude, unreasonable, and extremely difficult. This was the hardest class I have ever taken as a stem major. She does not curve, even when the average score is a 50% and has stated that the average grade should be a C
I read the reviews prior to taking this class &wanted to give her the benefit of the doubt. However,I felt so overwhelmed with the load work at the beginning. Prelabs were stressful not knowing whether or not you would be able to attend the lab 2hrs before labs started as they weren't approved yet. If you need any help you are basically on your own
Day 1 and I already can tell this professor is going to be awful. 7 assignments due at the end of the first week on day 1. Instructions are completely unclear and convoluted to say the least. Can already tell she is one of the most arrogant professors. From what I have read administration does not even want to deal with her. No place in teaching.
no no no no no. terrible, don't do it. so many assignments the first week. made me take a preassessment to see how much i knew in an intro class?? gave me a 3/20 when this is my first chem class. tried to email her for help with formatting my assignments and she was rude, unhelpful, and basically told me to figure it out on my own.
She should be banned from MSJC. She is ruining peoples lives.
It does not seem like she cares about her job. She has had too many lawsuits with the school. Administration hates her.
she is the worst person you can meet on campus/
I felt so discouraged the entire semester I wish I checked this site prior to her class. A presentation was required and just my luck I had the worst case of laryngitis I emailed her to let her know my voice was gone but I still attempted to get it done, she gave me a C and her note said "it wasn't a reading assignment it was a presentation"
Currently taking this class. She's strict in terms of homework and learning but it's pretty reasonable this is like a 5 unit college class. Grading is a little tough but manageable. Overall I like the professor, she gives good feedback, really good at lecturing, and she's honestly pretty funny making the class a little less intimidating.
she does not care about anyone. administration hates her too.
Get ready to get yelled at, but the class is bearable. Set time aside for her tedious homework.
She insults her students. She dis that to me, and to everyone else. DO NOT take her class
Extremely disrespectful. Rude to all of us. Hardly teaches subjects correctly either
Gives a bunch of work and hardly ever grades. PLEASE avoid her class
If you value your sanity, do NOT take this class bro!
No real substance to the material. She switches up alot of the formats of our study guides
So much work, so little time. Btw she will literally berate you the whole class
Just dont bro
Disrespectful. Bashes on student performance but does nothing to improve it
I had no clue what she wanted from us. Was blatantly rude, and never helped even after she said what you did wrong
I highly recommend taking another teacher
Extremely disrespectful to all of the students. I think she literally finds it fun to misguide students and yell at them
Was told not to take her class. Thought id give it a shot. Never again.
She literally doesnt help but assigns so much work
At first I thought I was just misguided, but no. Shes that bad of a teacher. I just cant stick up for her anymore
Assigns heavy amounts of work, doesnt grade it though…
I genuinely think she DOESNT know how to do the work she gives out, she just doesnt help
She seemed somewhat tolerable at first. But I think shes just mean on purpose
PLEASE never take this professor. Ive heard all kinds of horror stories anytime she teacher literally ANYTHING
Lots of homework, little time to do it. Tests make up most of the grade, she also gives us useless study guides and doesnt help us understand the lecture
Concise goals were given for the class? Yup. Does she help? Lol not at ALL
Gives tons of lectures that have nothing to do with work or tests
Tons of work, no time to do it, all while she yells at you and berates you
Assigns too much work honestly. She cant even grade it
I don't understand what she wants from us. If you fail she kicks you out of class. If you dont, shes still gonna disrespect you…I dont like this teacher
Accidentally put the wrong tag, she does NOT in fact have clear criteria for work. Shes very misleading with her study guides. Also very judgy as a person
She can be bearable, but she should never teach again
Seriously wish I never took this professor man
Pretty mean, also she doesnt have a clear study guide for any test or quiz
Dont do it
I wouldnt :/
Too many quizzes on top of labs and HW. Also she doesn't grade in time
Your gonna regret taking this professor
Very rude to students
She just doesnt help man
Dont take her class. She doesnt know how to teach. And I would know, Its my lifes goal
You shouldnt do it
Said she was responsive to emails, lol no shes not
I just don't know what she wants from us
Very very harsh grader. Also doesnt help efficiently with labs
Please for the love of god dont take her for chem
Rude, not inciteful at all. Gives basic lecture answers to intricate questions (the lecture is basically useless and not even applied by the way)
I really wanted her to be a good teacher but shes just so unlikeable lol
Bro can NOT teach
Quizzes and labs all over the place. Sure she had a schedule, just wish she actually knew how to work with students and teach them within the time frame
So rude man
Too much to read and no time to do anything. She assumes your ONLY taking her class or something lol
Please do not take this class bro lol
A literal circus trying to help in class. Also she doesnt know how to teach either. Good luck if you take her
Doesnt even try to help you bruh
Not that good of a teacher :/ (an understatement by the way, bro can NOT teach)
Very disrespectful, as everyone else clearly stated, but she will literally yell at you and send you home for getting even one little thing wrong
I absolutely recommend ……not taking her class :)
The main reason a-lot of her students are mad Is because she literally gave us all such a low grade cause she gives barely any assignments or extra credit and gives us only tests and labs (so good luck if your lab partner doesn't help btw). Oh yea, that and she doesn't know how to teach us, Its almost like she cheated to become a professor
I dont get her class man. Just dont take her
Genuinely sucks as a teacher. She cant teach, and shes rude if you have trouble or ask for help, like hello?? Call is coming from inside the house, I might be having trouble learning, but YOU cant teach lol
Dont take this class.
10/10 would not recommend :)
