Ok, she is a great professor and lecturer and explains material greatly but her test are way too long! 5 questions in 50 minutes is way too much. Questions themselves werent that hard but because there is no time to think you make mistakes and have no time to correct them.
If you wanna take 133, I would recommend Rosalie.
Offers the Longest office hours, the fairest exams and the most engaging lectures. one of the best math professors at Mcgill
One of my only classes this semester that I genuinely enjoyed.
I'm very glad Rosalie's now part of McGill's math department. She's very clear and thorough, and makes sure that you genuinely understand the material. I wouldn't say her class is easy, but it's taught well enough that people generally do well.
Best teacher to ever teach this class at McGill. A lot of my friends took it last year and the structure sounded SO much worse. She completely reshaped the course for the better. Amazing and caring proff, would highly recommend. If only she taught all of my math classes
A very nice prof! Strongly recommended
She is one of the best professors i've taken at McGill. she really knows what she's doing. the final was super hard but she compensated it with the midterm where the class average was an A. All her lectures were recorded.
Make sure to check hour her office hours when you don't get the concepts!
She may be a good person but she is not good lecturer Her content was good but the was random and therefore it was hard to understand everything It's like she tries really hard, so that we can understand but it is so random that it is really hard to understand But I think she cares for her students
Rosalie is a great Professor, definitely one of my favorite math teachers. Her lectures can be heavy but if go to class prepared, do the necessary work, and go to office hours, then her explanations give the underlying math that makes understanding the concepts much easier. Somehow made linear algebra interesting!
I LOVE ROSIE. She is the best math prof I ever had and her lectures are great. They were recorded and she was pretty good at explaining concepts. Loved the worksheet-based lectures we had and I learned a lot. It's a hard topic if you haven't learned it before, but put in some effort and it will be worth it!
She's a fair and effectiv teacher with good character. You just need to get used to her socratic teaching style (ask a question, try something/doesnt work and derives proof, one or two important examples, next topic). Her notes are condensated and messy, but you get a good intuition of the material. Assingments and final are challenging, but fair.
Her lecture is definitely confusing to me. I learnt most of the stuff through MIT open-course on youtube. It has been clear to me that she designed the course content in a kind of messy manner because my friend taking MATH 223 pretty much learnt the identical things that we did in her MATH 133 class.
one of the best professors in the math department I cannot stress this enough. posts a ton of extra material to ensure your success! would definitely definitely recommend!
you legit need to teach yourself the course, as she doesn't explain well. She never answers all the questions and needed to pay for 10+ hours of tutoring. thanks rosalie...
Horrible teacher. Doesn't respect her students. If you ask a question, instead of answering she responds with another question. Messy notes and disorganized class. Get ready to teach yourself everything!!!!
Shes literally the best math prof ive had. She has lots of office hours and tutorial sessions are also very helpful. She cares about her students which is a big plus! Her notes are posted online so we can review them anytime. She has extremely fair exams and plenty of time to complete them. This is one prof you dont want to miss!
Teaches fine, if a little too fast, but has zero sympathy. There is an unmatched amount of harshly graded work you're expected to do and she has acknowledged this repeatedly, but responded with basically "manage your time better". She once put a class and two quizzes on thanksgiving day after skipping a quiz(but not the hw) due to midterms.
I think she's a great prof but the material she teaches is hard. Graders for the midterms are absolutely terrible though, get ready to submit a regrade request.
She's a homie. Taking classes with her made me want to switch majors to math (yes, she's that good). Posted the syllabus early and is very organized, really cares about her students and you can tell she wants us to succeed. 10/10 honestly
Literally the sweetest prof ever, really cares about her students. Grades are distributed over lots of different evaluations, plus she drops your lowest midterm! Math 133 is a pretty hard course, so I would put in the time to really understand the concepts. But the workload is fair and manageable, and reading the textbook is completely optional!
She knows how to approach linear algebra the correct way: with less of a focus on computation and more of a conceptual focus. If you pay attention, do the course notes, and are curious outside of the class (e.g. watch 3blue1brown, which she suggests), you will develop a solid intuition in the topics show in class, and the class will be very easy.
All around awesome professor! Caring, clear explanations, encouraging, motivating. The course is hard because you learn a lot of material, but there are a lot of ressouces at our disposal.
I wasn't even in Rosalie's class but had to watch the recorded lectures she made every week and they were really good. She is so caring and she made the class 100% better. Rosalie really adapted to the online situation well, and incorporated student feedback into the class structure which was really nice and refreshing!
Great Prof
She's a good teacher but some lectures were hard and could have been presented better. She was enthusiastic but didn't make the class fun or interesting. Graded by many things which is great, releives a lot of stress. In any case, I learned a lot so she did what she was supposed to.
She's amazing, everything you could hope for in a prof and more. She gives you all the tools that you need to be successful, put in the work and you can ace it. Take her class, just do it, you will not regret it.
Really good professor!!! Especially during this special online period, she did really well and very caring!
Not sure why everyone says that this class is hard though. Just show up to lecture and you should at least get a B+/A-. She does make some concepts more complicated than it needs to be. I mostly just zone out for most parts of the lecture and wait for the formula at the end but it's good if you want to understand how the concepts are derived.
However says they would take this course again is legit lying. Like no way. It the HARDEST thing I've ever taken. If you wanna take this was an elective, don't. Take a language course or smth not math 133.
Her class ideas are apparent. I forgot to sign in for the final exam (it would be regarded as a zero score), she forgave me for my carelessness, and she provided a lot of optional exercises. But I do not support her disrupting the textbooks' teaching order, which violates human acceptance logic, making this initially simple class very HARD.
She is nice and good at teaching. the classes are well-organized compared to my other courses.
Nice prof with clear notes. Straight-forward exams. Practice.
Linear Algebra isn't an easy course. She made it somewhat easier by providing a good structure. Lots of office hours, definitely go to them. She will ask you questions, so prepare before going to the office hours. Read the textbook. Watch videos on Khan Academy to practice. Oh, don't forget YUTSUMURA site for exam prepping.
Really nice professor, very responsible, efficient and understands the students.
Rosalie gives very engaging lectures with neat and concise notes. The assessments are very challenging, but they give you many resources to succeed. Overall, a good class!
Her teaching is perfect, also she's such a nice and caring professor, I do recommend her!
Super organized, her lectures are comprehensive and she genuinely cares about her students getting a solid understanding of the subject matter. Not an easy math course and I did poorly until I did every single homework question and re-worked lecture problems. An A is tough but if you work hard Rosalie will help you get there!
Such a great and adorable teacher! She is here to help and listen when necessary and explains content clearly.
Prof Rosalie was the course coordinator and absolutely killed it. Super organized, extremely knowledgeable, and always clear in her communications. If I had one criticism, I'd say she was a bit passive aggressive/unaccommodating when answering questions she deemed simple. She also sped up at times, making some of these Qs valid for clarity's sake.
This professor is just the best thing that could happen to me with online learning. She made everything clear and understandable, she answered all of my questions, she took care of our mental health, and the organization of the course was really appreciable. I strongly recommend her!
The class was well organized, Rosalie's lectures were easy to follow, she explains everything clearly. She was approachable and genuinely caring for students.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS She puts everything in weekly quizzes even if it is unrelated to course materials. Lectures are awfully organized, it jumped to everywhere instead of following the textbook. The midterm was a nightmare, she put uncovered, too hard things inside the paper. And it seems that she wanted the class avg to be as low as possible!!!
This class irked me because the wording of the exams. They were so ambiguous and took major marks off this. I only did this well because they omitted our lowest mid-term score and 2 webwork scores. I think I got a 55% of my final and still did ok though. Definitely do all of the extra work and try to understand everything, FULLY.
She's an amazing teacher who truly worries about her students and their mental health. I learned a lot with her. She used many outside of class examples, as well as numerous different ways of solving the same problem. She offered many different opportunities for grading: midterm, quizzes, finals, homework, tutorials, etc.
Such a great prof! Probably the best I've ever had.
A bit of a harsh grader. Great teacher. Very caring. Clear and well-structured notes. Really nice person. She genuinely tries to help, encourage and understand the students. Wish more teachers were like her.
Best prof I've had so far. Math 133 is such a difficult class, but she makes it make sense as long as you put in the effort. Make sure you're able to do all the worksheets by yourself. Midterm and Final had a couple wack Qs, but enough straightforward Qs that you don't NEED to get the wack ones. She's super nice and very clear, best prof for 133.
This prof is perfect. Best prof I have ever had. She made me love linear algebra and love math. She means more than a simple prof to me. You can learn beyond linear algebra in her class. Good luck :))
Possibly the best prof I've had at McGill so far. You can tell she really cares about her students, her lectures are very clear and she makes you feel comfortable to ask her anything. You can tell she really likes to teach math and has a passion for what she does. Check her website and you'll get her vibe (just look up her name on google)
She's a gem. Her class is incredibly challenging, but she works hard to break down complicated concepts and make them accessible to students. She had the entire class planned out from the start, and she stayed on that schedule. Her midterms are challenging (maybe because they were online), but there are infinite study resources available. I <3 her.
everyone switch for Rosalie when in other courses
A very good professor! She is good at using the knowledge we have to talk about the area we have not discussed. You need to do some work to understand the thing she talked before she starts the class, because if you did not do that, you will not keep up with her.
Brilliant professor, only reason I somewhat enjoyed linear algebra.
It's funny - I actually started out taking Math 133 in a different professor's section, but after attending one of Prof. Belanger-Rioux's review sessions, I started attending her lectures frequently, and by the end of the semester, her lectures were how I predominantly learned. She is excellent at explaining and breaking complex topics down simply.
I started off with a different professor and class section until I failed the first midterm. I immediately switched into Rosalie's class and I noticed a massive difference in my understanding. She is able to coherently explain the course material and her lectures are 10/10. I would recommend her to any student going into math 133.
Prof Rosalie's lectures are super clear and easy to understand. They are a great introduction to the concepts but you will definitely have to work outside of lectures to complete your understanding. First math class that has ever challenged me but Rosalie made it somewhat enjoyable. Would definitely take again.
Rosalie is a truly awesome. She gives awesome lectures, and got me really excited to attend her lectures. I really recommend going to her Office Hours as well: even if you don't have any questions, she makes everyone participate in answering students' questions. She is extremely nice and caring. I could not recommend her enough.
Rosalie's class is tough, and to get good grades you need to put the work in; but she also provides lots of materials for practice and to help you understand, and she shows that she cares about her students. Definitely one of the best math profs at McGill!
Very Good teacher. I suggest you do the additional exercises in her lectures and spend some time fully understanding the concepts and how they are related to each other.
Math 133 is really hard but incredibly interesting. Enter the class with an open mind, go to tutorials and TEAM meetings if you need extra help, do all the homework, and you'll be totally fine. I barely passed midterms and finals and I got a B. Profs are kind and understanding, and everyone really wants to help you pass.
Could not recommend this prof more! Her notes are very easy to study with and she really goes in depth to explain everything during lectures. Some concepts are difficult to grasp but she has a lot of practice material and recommends additional videos to get more comfortable. She answers questions fully and makes sure you understand her response.
You really have to respect MATH 133 to pass this class don't do what I did and skip lectures if you slip up once you'll never catch up
Switched over to her lectures, make sure to annotate the notes she gives and try to complete them before/during class. much more effective than pre-made power points. The notes made were very referable for later dates and I still use them.
She probably has one of the worst lecture notes I've ever seen from a teacher. She scribbles everywhere in the notes making them difficult to read. She doesn't really solve problems in class. Her exams are disgustingly hard. If you have other classes at the same time, don't even bother taking this class. take it in the summer with a better prof
Best 133 prof by far. Nearly everyone would review her notes at some point and she had the best-attended class and office hours. Math 133 is a very concept-heavy course where it's very easy to mix up terms. Despite this, Rosalie always understood any question she was asked no matter how nonsensical it was. That's pretty impressive if you ask me.
Rosalie's section of 133 was the best by far. That being said, to fully understand the material, you have to attend her live lectures. Her notes can be difficult to read, and it's important to hear her explanations. Ask questions! 133 is very conceptual, and she does her best to help students visualize the course content. Hard course, good prof.
Had her for Math 133 and specifically chose the semester where she is teaching Math 315 again. Love her worksheet organisation, explanations were clear and exams were fair
She uses fill-in-the-blank notes which are so useful and she uses tons of examples. She is also the one to make the exams so you know that you're covering all the needed content. I switched to her class from Sean's after the first midterm
Great lectures
Great great professor, one of a kind. I did Sean for 133 throughout the term but she is really good too. Very organized, does fill-in notes which were useful to people who need more practice. Coordinated this large course really well. Moderately difficult midterm and final but got 99 at the end, despite the proof-heavy, conceptual questions :)
love her
DO NOT, I REPEAT DO NOT take this class unless you want to go to therapy! This is a next-level Einstein class. Not even my math tutor could help me. This teacher needs to slow down she writes faster than the speed of lightning. If you blink, you miss the whole lecture! She doesn't go through the theory and skips to solving exercises in class.
Math 133 is the hardest thing I have ever done in my life. That said, Rosalie makes it much easier. She puts her lecture recordings online so if you miss something in the lecture you can watch it again. She provides note outlines that she then uses in lectures. Great system. Very nice woman. Sucks that her class is at 8:30 for in person.
She just lectures really well and very clearly. I had a different prof and switched into her section and everything started making sense. Uses examples and different ways of explaining very effectively. Exams are just hard but if you come to class and do the homework you should be able to do well.
Amazing notes and lectures! Her assignments are super doable, however midterm and final exam can be hard but do well on the assignments and you will be fine!
You can't expect to do well in this course if you don't go to lectures. She teaches very well, and is capable of making abstract notions seem easy. You have to be precise in exams, as even small abiguities can lead to point removals. But in general, amazing professor, and you'll enjoy her courses as long as you put in the work.
Just a lovely professor. She has a fill-in-the-blank notes system in lieu of a traditional textbook, which I loved. Attendance is not mandatory, as she records lectures (in fact, I made it to maybe 2 the whole semester). She is thorough in her breakdown of course concepts, and accessing her is relatively easy for a 1000+ person class
I was late-registered, missing the first 6 lectures. But Rosalie's lecture recordings and notes really helped me a lot ! She always post a lot of notes and practice problems, which are really useful if you want to improve your grade. Although the final exam was a bit hard, but if you did well in webworks and two midterms you should be OK. Bravo !
Such an amazing and supportive professor. Explained concepts so clearly and was very welcoming in office hours. No "plug and chug" type of questions on exams, much more abstract - she was very honest about structuring the course like this on purpose. Provided great resources on mental health, and avoiding imposter syndrome/negative self talk.
Teacher is nice, but the math133 material is a nightmare for those with zero background at vectors and matrices. It is abstract and she has a lot of stuffs in her plate which makes lectures a bit heavy. She is caring and patient, but her hand writting is hard to distinguish.
Rosalie is extremely clear about what you need to know. She goes over MANY examples in class so you know how to solve all problems on homework assignments. Her exams are hard but they are doable if you really understand all the concepts and how to put everything together. She has so many office hours and really wants every student to succeed!
Rosalie is amazing! She cares deeply about education and has organized worksheets for every lecture, plus lectures are recorded. Concepts are abstract so this is a tough course, but the grading scheme is fairly lenient. Her office hours are very helpful.
Every other assessment is pretty much accurate, her notes make A lot of sense and she's great.
Solid lecturer with a clear care for students! She takes time during lectures to answer questions and explains the material quite clearly, though assignment questions are often not reflective of examples looked at in-lecture. Working with peers is highly encouraged in her classes, which makes sense given the frequency and difficulty of assignments.
Best. Teacher. Ever. Takes the time to answer questions, clearly loves her job, the subject she's teaching, and her students. No superiority complex like a lot of other profs at McGill, very organized, she structured the course perfectly to facilitate understanding, and clearly wants students to succeed. Engaging lectures, hope u write fast tho!!
She is a nice person and claims to care about her students but 80% of the examples that we see in lectures, she will do the first step or two and then just tell you to solve it yourself at home and so some of the solution methods are quite unclear. Easy mid-term which was good and lectures are recorded. Recommend reading the other section's notes.
Second time taking a class with her - the best of the best at McGill. Emphasizes actually understanding the material rather than mindlessly spitting out practice problems. Extremely approachable (always emphasizes her office hours, etc.). Took time to constantly remind us of mental health resources + genuinely cared about our success.
Best prof I've ever taken courses at McGill.
Very gifted prof! The class content is very organized and clear. For each lecture she posts her notes from in class and also posts the lecture recording. She doesnt do too many examples in class, which encourages you to do them on your own.The webworks are great practice and are doable with her notes. The most organized teacher in my first semester
Best prof at McGill. Entire course was so organized, and she made it very clear what you're expected to learn. Though the content is difficult, you will do well if you put in the time. Midterm was easy, and final was a bit tricky but nothing crazy if you took the time to understand the material. I'm really going to miss Rosalie's teaching!
Great professor, puts a lot of care into her lectures and her students. Very conceptually focused.
Really interesting teacher! Her notes can be a bit all over the place but she's really knowledgeable and teach in a super intuitive way making the materials covered less abstracts!
Rosalie is an excellent prof and I would strongly recommend taking any math course taught by her. Material can be difficult but exams and assignments were fair in my opinion. Lectures are recorded
One of the best profs in the math department. Her courses are super well organized, with consistent assignments, lots of practice problems, office hours and clear expectations. Assignments are challenging but really help you learn the content, and the grading scheme is generous. Make her chair of the department tbh.
There is a reason why she taught at MIT and Harvard. She has a wealth of experience and knowledge in math and her lectures were fun to attend. Great person as well; she does a lot for the local community.
Extremely sweet and knowledgeable professor. Lectures are recorded and you have tons of material accessible to you (extra practice questions, organized lecture material covered in each lecture, etc). You can tell she actually cares how her students perform and is overall a lighthearted person! Highly recommend taking her if you can :)
Very good teacher. The notes were worksheets that we'd fill in in class with solutions posted afterwards and it was all extremely clear and organized. Everything was recorded too. The midterm was extremely easy and the final was definitely harder but not more than other math classes of the same level. I greatly recommend this teacher.
The final exam was a joke, it was tough. Besides that, she is nice but not so nice in exams.
She is very nice and out of all the professors for this course this semester, she was the better one. She does in fact take the time to introduce a topic well and in depth, however it is not enough for the difficulty of webworks and not NEARLY difficult enough for the final. The final was a extra difficult for no reason, not prepared at all.
Great prof who wants you to succeed, very knowledgeable and provides 3 grading schemes. Lectures are recorded and notes are provided. The final was much harder than the midterm but it was doable.
Terrible professor. Spent ONE MONTH on series, which was supposed to be review. Spent ANOTHER MONTH on linear algebra jargon. And ONLY SPENT 1 MONTH ON ACTUAL MULTIVARIABLE CALCULUS. The exam was so unfair because it covered mostly multivariable calculus which we spent only 4 weeks on. The course content NEEDS to be changed! Wake up McGill!!
Extraordinary and reliable as always. Have truly felt set up for success in each and every one of her classes. If prof Rosalie has 0 fans I am dead.
Everything about her class was complicated for no reason. Her worksheets are never fully completed in class and they don't even help for midterms or finals. Did every problem in the worksheets, attended every class, did all the webworks and still ended up with a B+ in the end. Exam asks the most weird questions ever...
Rosalie is an excellent professor who makes complex topics more understandable. Her lectures are well-organized, and she genuinely cares about student success. While the content can be challenging, using unstuckstudy alongside her notes helps prepare for exams. Overall, a rewarding experience.
This is the best prof I had at McGill so far. Her lectures are so clear, engaging, and she makes us participate to the class. She's very accessible outside the classroom, answering all questions. And she makes review sheets before our exams which is so helpful (I aced the midterm studying 5 days prior to it). Amazing tutorials and TAs.
Rosalie's lectures follow notes she makes and are very informative. She is a greta prof and writes very fair exams - although the 263 midterm was rough the final was reactively (imo) easier. She is a great lecturer and has online office hours which are very accessible. 10/10 would recommend.
Just a bad teacher in general. Bad lectures, bad tests, bad bad bad! Avoid!
So disorganized. Spends very little time on the hard stuff and too much time in the easy stuff and on the exam there's only the hard stuff. Avoid at all costs please.
After I took the course I still did not understand a thing. Even though I passed. She does not prepare you at all for the exam. Very poor explanations in class. She tried this intuitive approach that just did not click with me. Very bad professor.
Posts lecture recordings, explains theory well, provides enough practice questions so that if u understand the content well, the exam should come easy naturally.
