Rosalinda Moctezuma is an amazing teacher. It is very clear that she knows the material. She is extremely respectable and respectful. Her class is enjoyable, her lectures are interesting, she always makes time for her students and she obviously cares. One of the best teachers I have had anywhere.
I really enjoyed this class, she made it fun and interesting to learn. She really does know the history as she is able to recall most of it off the top of her head. There were 2 scantron tests (50 questions ea.)and one essay based on the novel. Overall,...........Great teacher!
Rosalinda is the type of instructor that has a passion for teaching, her skills and organization for instruction are very good,if only ELAC can have more instructors such as she we would really have many motivated scholars.Attend her class you will not regret, she knows a lot about subject she teaches.really she gets a rating of 100%
good teacher...very easy to get along with...class not so hard..wants you to understand subject more than memorization..
best chincano studies professor ever! once you leave that class, you have nothing but pride!
she is the nicest professor ever! extremely entertaining. you will definitely not be bored in this class. she seems genuinely interested in teaching and likes to incorporate students into her discussion on the subject. She is very approachable and helps you even in situations outside the classroom. a must-take professor. highly recommended!
i love this teacher!
Moctezuma was great not only because she kept the class engaged in the material and class discussions, but also because being in her class encouraged me to better myself in all classes there after. I had a great experience. Agreed, more teachers should be like her, there would be a higher grad/transfer rate! Cheap book, too! XD
Took her class last fall and passed with a B. She's helpful and makes class fun. Actually looked forward to going to class every week. Type your 2 pages essay every week and you should be fine. Better, you dont have to buy a book, she uploads everything on the ACE website. :)
BEST EXPERIENCE in collge!! An Awesome teacher! very engaging funny and explains and helps you understand the material. no book needed, everything is on ACE. class is not easy but since she makes it fun and clear, it seems easy.
She encourages students to speak their opinions but if you disagree with her, especially on her religious views, she gets mad and defensive. The readings she assigns are actually interesting. The midterm and final are easy. Her grading goes based on her liking you or not; you basically have to rub her elbows to get a good grade.
very fun teacher.her lectures are thought provoking and engaging. she will make you think outside the box for sure.. her passion for chicano studies is contagious and if the true measure of an instructor is that he or she fosters a passion for learning, she passes with flying colors. Easy A or B if you do all the work and go to class
Do not take this class if you're looking for an easy pass. I don't know what these other commenters see in this teacher, but her grading scale is just absolutely ridiculous. A (290-300), B (280-289), C (270-279), D (260-269), F (0-259) Beware of taking this teacher.
She is a down to earth professor, keeps class interesting but she gives alot of reading, we had one exam that was really easy. As long as you do u work you should be fine she is a fair teacher, doesnt except late work. But i loved her class
didnt like her at first. But in the end I did. The class is very interesting and I learnt heaps. She was hard on us at first, an A was a crazy 97%, I guess she started to grade easier to let people pass. There are so many bums who take this class so they really needed this help to pass. honestly they should have just failed some of us worked hard
Great Teacher! She is funny and makes class interesting. She reminds me of the female version of George Lopez. We dint need the book so, that's a plus. If you study and pay attention, you should pass!
Love everything about her. She's straight up and very knowledgeable in her field. She's there for you if you need her and willing to work with you. She makes lecture fun and interesting. Definitely would recommend. Also no books, everything is power point and on moodle. Thumbs up!
intelligent, sweet and very happy teacher! She knows how to actively engage with the students and the lectures are never boring. She follows her syllabus and uses Moodle for online quizes (super easy) and for the assigned readings. She gives 3 exams which are very fair if you did your work as a student and there is 1 large group project. RECOMMEND!
Despite the other negative reviews, Moctezuma is passionate for this subject and always adds humor to her lectures which she uses to engage students in the lectures. She is willing to help you for any concern and very caring. However, don't miss any quizzes on Moodle. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.
I took her for Fall'14 and let me say she is the BEST professor I have ever had. She's straight up so if you're sensitive don't take her lol. She's hilarious and has the class laughing all the time! A lot of reading for the online quizzes but so worth it! I learned a lot and I really enjoyed her and I highly recommend her.
She is straight forward. You get what you give. If you don't put effort or thought into your assignments than don't expect a good grade. She is funny and makes the class interesting and relatable. But if she sees you talking or texting she will call you out in front of the class and ask you to leave. No textbook but you print out all the articles.
Professor Montezuma lectures are very engaging. Expect to read at least 8-33 pages of article per week or sometimes 2 times per week. Weekly quizzes that will help one at the end of the semester. All one has to do is listen to her lectures and read the articles as the lectures are based on the articles. To pass with an A, just do as she says.
NO BOOK! Hilarious, easy going, caring... She is not easy but if you want to learn this is a professor who is dedicated and puts you at a challenge. Just do your HW and JOURNALS, keep up with the readings, pay attention in the lectures and you'll do really good. Not a boring instructor. Uses movies and documentaries frequently too.
UH... NOT a good teacher. It almost sounds like she is rating herself. Really? Passionate? I highly doubt it. Im surprised she actually got a full time gig here. Anyway, she isn't that good and isn't tight with her knowledge.
She is a great professor. You can relate to her a lot. Reading is a must in order to pass. She does not provide a study guide so you have read and really study for her test. Her reading are about 10-30 pgs long. If you read and do what she tells you, you will pass with a good grade
Amazing teacher! you will learned a lot about your background. she inspire me to be a better person and has show me anything is possible in life! I hope she read this with a glass of wine :D best teacher, we need more like her in this school. expect to read and write but it would be worth it.
Professor Moctezuma is one of the few great professors I've had in my 4 years of college journey. She is not only passionate about what she's teaching but she is also very caring and understanding of her students. Simple moto, work hard and your hard work will pay off in this class. She is also very understanding of those of us who work, study etc.
Currently taking her class and I really enjoy her class she is hilarious and I like the fact the she connects the past to the present and teaches a lot of useful information. Group project and a mural report. A lot of readings and the quizzes are based on the readings
Easy A if you do your work. Overall she's a funny and passionate professor. One research paper on a mural and a group project. Weekly quizzes on moodle based on a reading. Two tests, midterm and final.
She is really funny and entertaining. I just loved her classes. Midterm and a final exam. Quizzes every week based on the readings. A group project and research paper and a mural report
Professor Moctezuma is a really good teacher. She's funny and will keep you awake throughout her lectures. She knows her stuff and will help you if you need it. We didn't use a book in class but there was a group project, research paper, midterm and final. The final required short essays so you have to pay attention.
If you want a professor who never shows up to class but still tests you as if she does. Then when you finally have class it's just a waste of time, this is the class for you. Honestly this lady shouldn't have a position at elac the only thing postive about this is no text book required for class.
Took her this semester and I really enjoyed her lectures. Yes, she did miss a few, but she always caught up and had questions/video online. However, the readings are really long and you have quizzes after. Quizzes are tricky, but IF you read you will pass. Group project at the end that pretty much determines if you pass. No study guide.
She's a great person but I do not like her teaching methods. The readings are extremely long and her quizzes are not based on what you learn but rather based on memorization. She will pick a random sentence from the readings and change one word and ask if it's true or false. Midterm and final is the same way & you cannot use notes. No study guide!
Moctezuma made me realize that Mexican history can be a real part of Chicano lives. I am Mexican american and i took this class because i wanted to learn about my roots. If you take her, trust me you will learn. I found this class fairly easy and I passed with and A but probably bc i enjoy knowing about Mexican culture. I highly recommend her! :)
Took her class this summer. quizzes were online, easy to pass just need to read material provided. Lectures included power points, and movies. Group project is also assigned consisting of research paper, presentation, and mural. Extra credit was provided and NO TEXTBOOK. Would take her again!
Prof. Moctezuma is a really great professor. She has a great sense of humor. She gives these group projects but toward the end of the semester & she makes you get " married " to your group. Luckily I had a great group.. She even told us to never get a " divorce ". LOL. Other than that easy class just read & do quizzes. You'll pass
Moctezuma is a very cool teacher that will make every lecture fun. For her class, we do online quizzes. The quizzes consist of 5 questions and the course readings are about 10 pages long. They are all T or F answers. The book isnt really needed, its only needed for like about 4 quizzes. Be prepared for quizzes, a group project, and a museum visit
The readings are extremely long, quizzes are not based on what you learn but rather based on memorization. She will pick a random sentence from the readings and change one word and ask if it's true or false. No study guide! The only thing i enjoyed was the research she makes you do for projects. Beware she gives A LOT of work!
Such a great professor that I took her for another course. Lectures are entertaining and overall an amazing class
A really bad professor. She loves to create problems and make accusation. Be prepared to be harassed if she doesn't like the way you look.
One of the best teachers I've ever had! Shes funny and her life stories make it easy to remember what you learned! She very intelligent and people who don't like her ways of teaching probably don't understand that her readings are for learning but the experience is what shes trying to convey to you! Go to class, participate, listen and you'll pass!
Took Professor Moctezuma for Winter 2017. At first I was skeptical about taking this course being that the topic alone wasn't something that interests me. BUT after taking this 5 week course, I feel like almost every student at ELAC should take her course. She is super inspirational and motivational. requires group project and a lot of readings.
Prof. Moctezuma's class is pretty straightforward, show up to class, take notes. Sometimes she will play videos during lecture. She makes the class entertaining and relates to the students with her past experiences. However, she does have quizes online that can be pretty tricky, just pay attention to the readings and you should be fine.
Always looked forward to class because she was very interesting to listen to. Always very respectful and funny which helped the class feel more comfortable to contribute. her tests are somewhat difficult due to the wording but if you did the reading you should be able to be at least alright. Definitely pay attention to details.
Great professor and knows her material.
horrible instructor dont take her didn't like when you would ask her question wasn't clear on things and say inappropriate stuff
Classes we mostly powerpoint lecture, which she sent to you. She knows her material and makes it fun. Her assignments are clear, mostly reading and taking small quizzes. Very interesting course. Watch videos in class and a big mural at the end.
The class and environment were interesting, and class was pretty easy if you study the material.
She's so nice! There are a lot of readings and quizzes to them They are a little hard because she changes ONE word, number or last name so make sure you read carefully! No need for book, she posts all the readings and power points and you are responsible for taking them to class every day. Group project, you have to draw a mural and 6-8 page essay.
Grade is on the group project and final
Definitely recommend her! Shes so funny and makes class go by so fast! Usually all lectures are short power points. Shows a lot of documentaries in class. Its a Very easy class if you actually try. Theres 7 online quizzes each 5 questions based on an article. One group project, the midterm and final are both multiple chose.
Your grade is literally base on 4 things! She doesnt give out hw or in class assignments. Its an essay class. Shes super funny and is always telling funny stories. You get 7 quizzes each 5 questions they are online and you have a week To get your quiz done. One group project. Your midterm and final are multiple choice. Everything is online
She's a great person, but not a so great professor. Had tons of articles to read then got tested on them on Canvas. The questions were not based on main ideas of the article rather they were based on switching a word from a random sentence and answering if it is true or false. Heavy group work too and if the group messes up you pay for it.
She is an exciting prof, always looked forward attending her lectures. Makes the class pass fast with her funny jokes/comments and real-life advice. She's lenient and chill, I like her a lot and would def take her again. Just be careful for the online quizzes, they're a bit tricky but other than that one midterm, one group project, and the final.
Someone magically erased my comment from the other day. Good person not a good professor radiates senority late to EVERY class and ALWAYS talks about her friendship with Andrew Monzon the department chair of Chicanx Studies so to complain about her would get you no where she helps the guys on the football team
montezuma is a great proffesor, literally all you gotta do is read for the online quiz, research and present a project with a group. you dont even got to be there for her lectures cus she just be talking about herself most of the time haha
Montezuma is a horrible professor and very unprofessional dont register for her class just take a different professor avoid at all cost if you can
Most of the assignments are on Canvas, so be sure to have access. She provides notes in class and posts them on Canvas, so be sure to take notes on EVERYTHING because she changes up words on tests/quizzes to confuse students. Biggest assignments of the semester are 1 midterm, 1 final, and 1 group project.
Too many typos on her instructions and powerpoints, I had to decipher what she meant to say on multiple assignments (example spelled "fright", "freight"). She doesn't seem qualified to instruct, and sorry to say a lesson on how to communicate in english (I only say this because she is an instructor).
Dont waste your semester with this awful professor you will haft to repeat chicano studies over again if you take her believe me you will regret taking her class
Easiest professor but you won't learn anything. 75% of lectures are about her boring life. Embarrassing as a teacher who doesn't know the difference between race, ethnicity, culture, nationality, and heritage. Racist towards whites although she is one lmao so that makes her prejudice. If you want to pass without learning then this is right for you.
She's really not that bad I took her class my first year in college and I think she was pretty cool. You just haver to do your work and I think you'll be fine.
Little communication. Despite her responses on the emails, they dont make any sense. Quiz and test questions are very tricky, for example, you should remember the fathers name of some person that you read about one paragraph out of 43 pages.
Professor Moctezuma had amazing power points and lectures this spring 2020 semester. I truly enjoyed her class... I really think the negative reviews are so off compared to the professor I had the pleasure of taking. She gives you a syllabus that as longest you follow and do the work your good!
I decided to give her a chance, but will not take her again. Although the assignments were simple, the tests were complicated. The questions were too specific, and her grammatical errors made things more difficult. This issue made test grades somewhat based on luck, which is obviously unfair. A professor is expected to be grammatically competent.
If I could go back in time and not take this class I would. Prof Moctezuma is not specific at all. This can be very fatal when it comes to non specific test questions and one sentenced prompts for essays. Not to mention all the grammatical errors in her assignments but she will take 5 points off an assignment for a grammatical error.
If I can go back & not care her I would totally have done so. Such a bad professor and doesn't care for her student. Does not accept late work which is unbelievable like many people are struggling with motivation right now due to the pandemic & she doesn't help. She is honestly the worst ever. Would not recommend taking her. If I can rate 0 I WOULD
All the assignments in this class were exciting to read and write about. The professor is very tedious for example if she states to respond to one student and you respond to two students points will be deducted if you are a B student I felt she will leave you there till the Final and that will determine if you get your A. Question are tricky
Her grading criteria is horrible. You miss one assignment and your entire grade goes down by a lot. She does make grammar errors on quizzes so you have to go out of your way to email her to let her know or else she will not give you that point back. Shes not specific and you basically have to teach yourself if youre taking the class online.
get ready to read lots and lots of lectures the test are only 5 questions which are true or false get one question wrong your grades drops by a lot
If your taking this class im sorry for you. Her grading system is so horrible. Get ready to read because its a lot of reading and have to do true or False quiz that earned 5 points no mms
Super chill Professor. No textbook needed, everything is provided via canvas. Weekly discussion boards on interesting topics. Final paper is very straightforward as is the rest of her grading. Just read the assigned lectures, post your work on time, and you'll earn an easy A.
Professor seemed unprepared. Lecture materials contained typos and confusing statements. When I mentioned it, professor seemed defensive. Sorry to say this, but it's frustrating when a professor does not admit there are errors on the quiz, or asks "gotcha" questions - that does a disservice to both student and professor.
She was very lenient and only gave 1 assignment a week
Makes you write a whole page every week, makes you read about 20 pages minimum, and talked about wieners exploding in the microwave
Her lecture slides are not very clear & contain errors. Her assignments are pretty straightforward but she can be very nit picky when it comes to grading. She's not very flexible with her students especially when it comes to family emergencies, in my case she displayed almost a lack of empathy. I would not recommend her.
Professor Moctezuma overall is great and really funny, and great humor. She has very straight forward assignments I would say, well at least to me. Be beware! be ready to read assignments that require a 30 page read to critically be able to answer the questions or what is asked of you. If you are not up for the challenge I would not recommend.
If you don't need this class, don't take it. If you do, I wouldn't recommend this professor. She grades on attendance. Her assignments are weekly readings of 20-30+ pages and you have to write an essay about them, weekly. She doesn't go through the readings thoroughly. Her lecture slides had many errors and she rambles/repeats herself a lot.
If you have the flexibility to choose another class, please do so. Her rubrics were very confusing, she was extremely picky about the grading although her syllabus/assignments had almost 10+ errors on them, and she wasn't understanding/empathetic at all. If you attend this class, be ready to work twice as hard for a rudimentary class.
So, she mainly does discussions and essays. At least one discussion and essay a week, if you're busy and are a stem major I wouldn't recommend this class. Lecture slides are also messy, and have mistakes not to mention the 50+ pages of reading material you have to read to even complete the assignments. Also no late submissions, and no exceptions...
Took prof. Moctezuma online for Chicano 054. One discussion per week, three projects throughout the semester. She posted lecture slides which were full of juicy information. Unfortunately sometimes prof. Moctezuma can be unclear with her grading criteria for projects and essays, and you end up losing points for not meeting her standards.
Ay-ay-ay. Roughly 3-12 pgs of reading every week, 300-700 word essays to go right along with it. Attendance is mandatory & she gets distracted & side-tracked during her lectures. 20% of "lecture" is course-related, the rest is her rambling about her personal life experiences. Told us that our "final" would be a project, then gave us a final anyway.
If you don't like to read and write don't get this class but if that isn't a problem with you it's just an amazing class, at the end you see your life different, this class makes you think and write about your grandfathers, fathers, siblings, all I can say professor Rosalinda Moctezuma it's such a great teacher. Summer class 2024.
I must say I was not a fan of all the reading and writing but everything you read will be discussed in class and in the essay every week so it's not a waste of time. She knows what she is talking about and makes the lectures very fascinating and relatable to everyone, not just Chicano students. She cares about her work and is very passionate.
AVOID Rambles a lot, not clear on her grading, “Latinos don't like to read” gives out excessive reading material. 4-6 page essays weekly, disagree w/her = —grade “cops/military are racist”, “Latinos should go to occupational schools not college”affirmative action is bad, although she used it. reading is outdated tries to apply to present times
Prof. Moctezuma is confusing with her grading, she looks for excuses to take points off. I like to do my homework in one day and she was taking points off for answering my classmates in the same day in the discussion boards, and in the essays she will always tell you that the MLA format is missing even if you do it right.
Avoid taking this professor at all costs. She is extremely unorganized, the canvas assignments' rubric does not align with her syllabus at all, and she is extremely petty when you respectfully call this out. She will mark off points for "incorrect MLA format" even if you did it correctly. I would recommend picking a different Chicano Studies prof.
weekly reflection essay 3-5pgs long based on weekly article readings posted on Canvas. These articles are 15-30pgs long. She is petty, judgmental, and grades based on her mood. She takes away 3pts every day it is late. If your essay is great, 3pgs long, and on time, she will still lower the grade because it's not 4/5pgs. Same with other assignments
Her class is pretty easy and straightforward. Just do the assignments, which are all based on the readings and your opinion. You don't even need to do any of the readings, you could just get AI to summarize the readings. Also, she replies to emails and means well. Just put in the work and you'll get the easy A.
She low-balls grades and grades only 1 day after the drop date with W.
A low Baller when it comes to grading deducts point for petty reasons. Very sneaky doesn't start grading assignments until the drop date passes.
If you only need this class for credit and it's not ur major don't take her she'll be more stress than your necessary class and she'll find anything to make sure you don't get full points on essays
