All I have to say is take someone else! She goes WAY to fast, doesnt care if you understand as long as she gets through her material.... she flips though her notes like you can write 20 million words/minute!! DONT TAKE HER!!!
I have never written so much so fast in all of my life! She flies through notes so fast that half the time you don't get them down.No review sheets for tests. Any ?'s..-she 1.won't know it or 2. will try to aswner it but never fully does-then moves on
Her notes are DIRECTLY out of the book and she then just decides to skip over things that aren't important enough to cover, because she runs out of time. I don't think she understands english enough to answer questions because she doesn't do it clearly.
Her notes are verbatim from the text so if you don't understand the chapter, you're toast. She's a nice person and jokes around in the lab but she's not a good lecturer. If biology isn't your expertise, take Shepherdson.
I think yhis is an easy class. I don't recommend this class to a non-bio major. However, i think I have learned quite a bit. probably should take someone else.
OMG she is HORRIBLE! Goes through notes like the freakin Apocalyptic Horsemen are on her heels or something! Her tests are so hard it's stupid, random questions from 7 different chapters, so it's practically impossible to know all the answers. Good LUCK!
This is one of worst teachers I have ever taken. She always was hacking trying to get the frog outta her throat, and when you would ask her a question she would tell you that that was already covered. DON'T take her!
If you get the book her lectures are not neccesary. She reads verbatum from the book. It is beyond boring. She is not a real helper either. She seems only to know what is stated in the book. If you want further explanation your on your own.
Be prepared to take notes at the speed of light -its easier to just highlight in the book, everything is word for word. If you use the study guides, the tests are alright - she usually grades on a curve.
Lectures are NOT worth it. You take sooo many notes you can't even pay attention to what she is saying. She isn't very helpful in lab. and no one usually understands how lab ties in to the chapter. I wouldn't take the class if I didn't have to.
can't understand material i'm writing at the speed of light through her constant hacking fits. gross-out if you have a weak stomach. doesn't care if you learn anything, all around evil person. tests are so random and hard, most of it isn't even anything she covered. our class average was never above 70 on a test. her fault, not ours.
The class isn't that bad. The only thing that is hard is keeping up with her during note taking time. Oh yeah, and the exams cover to many chapters at once. I just took an exam today that covered 6 chapters in 50 questions. That's insane in the membrane trying to study 6 chapters for 50 questions.
I took Roz a few years ago and was reading the previous comments. They are terrible! This is college guys!! Wake up and smell the coffee! Things are spoon fed to you anymore. Wow, you have to study...this is what college is like, if it were easy-EVERYONE WOULD GO!
just bad, don't take her if you care about your grades. She goes way to fast, and i honestly think she has no idea what she is teaching......GOOD LUCK if you get stuck with her
Roz is actually easy going if you take the time to talk to her. Yes, don't bother with notes, use the book. Test are very hard, but if you study, hopefully you will pass. Her coughing is a bother but if you ignore it will be fine.
Lectures are boring powerpoints. If you read the book, you don't need to go. Test questions all multiple choice and true/false. Read the chapters and go to labs, and you'll be fine.
Funniest teacher possible
Professor Sweeting is very nice and helpful if you get to know her. Her lectures are boring but she doesnt count for attendence if you read the chapters you will do good the tests are very easy anyways. i would reccomend her to anyone taking biology
This class was good. You can't expect an easy grade. You have to work for it. Study hard and the exams are ok. She gives lots of extra credit. Labs are long and you don't usually get out early, but lab exams are easy. She is nice and funny. We had a movie day and she bought us pizza!
She wants all of her students to understand what she is teaching. Class always lasts the whole time period. Lectures are boring, but she puts notes on blackboard to take to class to fill in. Labs are very drawn out. She is a good teacher, throws in some humor here and there. Definatly would recommend her if you want to work for your grade.
She is a good teacher. She moves fast but she puts her lecture notes on blackboard. She will help you if you ask for help, and she gives lots of extra credit. Her tests arent as hard as I thought they would be. She throws in funny jokes every now and then. I highly recommend her! Shes great!
Strict in Lab. Make sure & talk to her, she is really nice. Her accent is cute. Exams are directly from Power Point and questions are in BOLD. Studying is a breeze if you print them out & fill in the blanks. Study Guide is right on the money. Liberal with extra credit, if you try, you will get an A.
Dr. Sweeting is a great instructor. Go to her if you have any questions or problems. Tests are easy if you study her powerpoints and refer to the book. You never get out early!!
Dr. Sweeting is a wonderful lady. Her lectures are very clear and just like the book. If you have any questions she's always willing to help. Test are easy as long as you pay attention in class and go over notes once in a while. Take her for the sake of your grade!
She is a sweet woman, very helpful, tests are right off the powerpoints, and the powerpoints are right off the book. She is patient and very understanding. I highly recommend her!!!
Great biology teacher! All of her exams are from her notes, which she posts on blackboard. Print them out before class, fill them in during lecture, study, and you will get an A. She gives extra credit and is always willing to meet with you as well! Loved her!
Very nice and helpful. Her lectures are very straightforward and exams are fairly easy. She also posts all of her powerpoint based lectures on blackboard, which makes it easy to study from. This class requires a lot of effort, but its not hard.
Professor Sweeting is an awesome woman! I absolutely love her and find her to be extremely approachable and kind. She posts her powerpoint lectures on v-space and the tests are straight from them! You don't even need to buy the book, it's a waste of money! She is by far the easiest professor to take for 111A and I wish she taught EVERY Bio class!
Very nice lady. aleegrgic to everything and sounds like she is dying sometimes but she is fun. did really bad in bio in high school and was nervous about the class but she made it fun and easy to understand. Study the study guides and u should be fine. offers lots of extra credit. 1 paper that is not hard at all. Highly recomend her to anyone
This is the easiest science class I've ever taken, extremely easier than anything I ever even had in high school. She gives study guides and all test information comes from those. If you study only your notes and understand them you should have no problem getting an A on a test. She has a few assignments that are easy and gives extra credit.
I really enjoyed this class as well as the teacher. Lab is mandtory. The lectures are on VSpace and are power point. She is very clear and helpful. There is one final paper. Study and you will do well on Test. Rewards: lots of extra credit opporunties and a movie!
She was great at teaching. She gave lots of opptunities for extra credit, and she was always there during her office hours. My only problems were sometimes she went through the powerpoint presenations a little too fast, and 80% of the grade was based of tests.
Dont buy the book. She hands makes a powerpoint for you to print before class... The tests are easy and follow the powerpoints.
So the tests are mostly lecture based. But the material is on stuff she covers for like 2 seconds in class. The stuff she covers in detail for a half hour, she leaves out of the exams. So the tests are pretty much crap. You don't need the book. It would help tho.
If you are looking to fulfill your science requirement, she is a good teacher to take. There are a lot of tests but they aren't too bad. You also have to write a paper but she gives you tons of time to do it. I was scared to take biology because science is by far my worst subject but I still got a B+. I thought she was really nice, too. Don't skip.
She is a very good professor. Her tests were pretty easy, as long as you studied from the study-guide she gave out.
OMG all the COUGHING!!! What the HECK?!?! She is allergic to EVERYTHING so she will cough throughout the entire semester. And sometimes it sounds like she dying.... seriously. Watch out for that. Other than that and her deep accent her class was OK. Although I was sleep during most of them. She gives you a study with everything she covered. Labs ar
Labs were mandatory but lectures weren't. She posts notes on V-Space to fill in during the lecture. My only real complaint were lecture notes being posted 2-3 hours before class. Good luck with that. She's a bit strict in the labs but she wants to make sure you get the information. She seems like one of the better BIO profs on campus.
Very Good. I've heard horror stories about other bio profs and she wasn't bad at all. Labs are important to her. Offers extra credit and her powerpoints are extremely helpful. Don't even need the book.
she was so rude.
does notes on a powerpoint. she expects you to know a decent amount of stuff about bio before the class. i was confused at some points. there is not a lot of extra credit opportunities.. the tests are hard and it is like impossible to get full credit on lab worksheets.
Not much of an introductory class. At least some background in biology is required if you expect to do great without studying your tail off. She was an alright professor. Class organization could've been better. She was easy to talk to one-on-one when you need help. She talked down to students in the classroom setting though.
all in all a very well put together class. she tends to put different inflections on certain words like "capillary", but she will pronounce it the normal way. attendance is key, book is used for examples, 5 exams, 1 of which is dropped at the end. lecture is available online, but not entirely. very nice lady! :)
She was interesting at first because she has a neat accent and is really into organic things and not taking medicine or wearing contacts and she often wears overalls to class. She's a cutie. However, after a couple of weeks I got bored with her lectures and found myself having a hard time staying awake. I also relied HEAVILY on my textbook.
Very helpful, EASY prof. but the coughing omg... This is a very good intro course, she goes with the flow of the students, exams are easy and she drops your lowest score.
All I can say is good luck. I came here with all A's and I barely made it out passing. She doesn't care if you understand the material, talks down to you, and expects that you already know what she's teaching and it's just a review. If you make it out with anything higher than a C, great...but good luck. TAKE SOMEONE ELSE!!!
Dr. Sweeting is an awesome professor. Those who think she's hard (for 105 anyway) must just expect not to do anything. If you go to lecture and study a little for the tests, you will get at least a B. Don't really need to read the book, but it helps clarify. She really knows her stuff. Would definitely take her for 105 again if i had to!!
Very nice woman and very intelligent. Go to class for lecture and notes and you'll know what to expect on the test. Ask for help if you need it, she's more than willing to help and you also have an opportunity for extra credit. Lab is mandatory, but you don't stay the whole time.
Dr. Sweeting is a good professor. She wants students to learn. Any bad reviews here must be from lazy students. She will explain a hundred times if needed. She will not accept excuses and studying is necessary. If you attend lecture she gives hints for the exams. This class was not as difficult as I expected, but I did put in an effort to do well.
She's such a great teacher!! Definitely get her and you'll learn a lot, its a hard class but she's a great professor.
Hard class only because she makes it hard. She knows a lot about the subject. She doesn't curve her tests. It is almost impossible to get an A in her class. She tricks you on the exams so pay close attention. Demands that you need the book, but I think I only opened it less then 5 times through the whole semester.
Posts powerpoints and most of test comes from that. Roommates took other profs and hated them... Take Sweeting!! Finished Semester with an A-
This class was interesting. Didn't really need the book for lecture. Just pay attention to her notes and study the notes for exams and you should be set. For lab, just don't miss any labs they are easy anyway. She takes a letter grade off for every lab missed after one. I would recommend her.
Really enjoyed this class! It was a lot of work, but absolutely worth it.
I have actually only had her as a lab professor for genetics...but she's awesome. She has an obvious passion for teaching. Easily one of the most helpful teachers you'll find at SVSU. Always encourages students to come to her office hours. Sweet lady and wonderful prof. I'd definitely recommend her.
Dr. Sweeting is a personal favorite. She covers lots of material and does it well. You will really learn a lot in her class and she will really go out of her way to help you. Minimal homework, tests are relatively easy (it is 111A), and you don't need the book. Plus her British accent is just cool. Take her if you can.
She was nice, but her exams had so much information on them. I would study very hard for each one and not do well. Good teacher, but, idk....just the overall feeling I received from the class and how much of class was struggling, she said she would give us grade boosts, but she didn't. Very disappointed in the end with this course.
Had her for lab. Not a good idea. Her lab brought me down from A to B+
i loved her! sometimes she gets annoyed with stupid questions, but tries to level with you. the exams were a little hard, but she tells you at the beginning don't take it unless you are actually going into biology.
Pay attention in lecture. It's difficult sometimes but most test anwsers come right from power points. The tests are tough so study hard. This course has a lot of information.
I really enjoyed her class. She put all of her powerpoints up online before class, so it was easy to come prepared (or miss class). Her tests may have been difficult, but she warned us the very first day that it was a tough course. Over all, if you study like you're supposed to, you'll do fine. I suck at biology, and I passed with an A.
Dr. Sweeting is a sweet lady. Loved her as a professor. PowerPoints are all put on VSpace, no need for the expensive text. Grade is based off of tests and one paper. Test are hard, you must study.
I didn't find the course very helpful. I expected to learn more than I did and I put in a lot of effort. I won't be taking this professor again! Not happy with the outcome of this course at all! I personally would not recommend her.
She was such a sweet lady! Considering I am not a science major for a very good reason, this class wasn't bad at all. Don't get me wrong, her exams are tough, but they're doable if you study! The one paper in the course was easy points, because she wasn't a harsh paper grader. Take her if you can! :)
Professor Sweeting is one of the nicest professors I have had at SVSU. She's super helpful, and very clear about what she wants. Tests are easy as long as you do the study guides. She always has several ways of explaining something so that everyone can understand. Great professor, I would highly recommend her!
Great teacher. She is the best bio teacher I've ever had! She is so cute and her British Accent makes everything so fun to listen to. Take her!!!! Every class is a lecture on a powerpoint and she posts them online so you don't really have to go to class if you don't want to!
she is a great professor,,easy helpful and dedicated. I like the videos she presented were veryyyyyy helpful to understand things.
I hate science but she made it interesting. The exams were not too bad as long as you study. Attendence to lecture was not needed but need to go to lab. Overall, if I had to take another science class I would take her.
Overall this is a very tough class. Sweeting does give you copies of powerpoints so you have them to study. Exams are pretty tough and are really the only thing that contribute to your grade. She does explain very well, its just a complicated subject
good helpful notes and study guides.
Sweeting's class was difficult for some people, but if you study hard from the notes she posts on vspace her tests aren't that hard. Lab is fun.
Dr. Sweeting is one of the best professors in the Bio Department. Her exams can be quite difficult, but it's Genetics, it is suppose to be hard. She really encourages you to visit use her office hours, and you should! She's a nice lady! She really got me interested in the field of human clinical genetics. Also, gotta love her British accent!
She is a really good professor. The tests can be hard, so study because besides one extra credit opportunity and a paper that's all your grade will be.
Horrible professor. Do NOT take her.
She knows what she's teaching. Test questions come right from the Powerpoints, which she posts online so class isn't mandatory. Studying is needed! Use her study guides, and you should be okay. Book is needed for the online homework.
Basically just reads the notes, you can do that at home. A jerk about lab questions and their submission dates. Great part is she doesn't take your attendance :D
Professor Sweeting is a great professor. Her lectures can be long but she knows her material. Paying attention in class is a must and so is studying. Do this and you should do well in the class.
Dr. Sweeting is interesting. It's obvious she knows the material but does not convey it well. She does not use the lab manual for anything which makes things confusing. Mildly demeaning to students by calling adults "boys & girls". Not a very approachable individual, can make you feel dumb.
The genetics of cancer class is a very interesting and enriching course. A lot of emphasis on molecular biology and, of course, genetics. The course is literally designed for you to drink out of a fire hydrant. In addition, this is Sweeting's expertise of study, so exams are very tough and she expects a lot. Love her to death and I enjoyed the clas
Great professor who knows her stuff. Be prepared to learn every class peroid. The exams are tough, and there's a writing assignment other Bio 111 professors don't make you do. If you retain information easily and study, you will do great. Overall, there are much easier professors you can take, but if you like bio and want to learn, 100% take her.
Dr. Sweeting is a very knowledgable professor. She is great at explaining difficult topics and starts each class period with a recap of the previous class. As a honors student, I will strive to take additional classes with her. The class itself is composed of 7 exams (2 lab), lab questions, a 4-5 page writing assignment, and online work.
She tends to contradict herself. Not clear with what she expects in her assignments. Quite condescending to students in her comments. Don't buy the lab manual--you'll never use it. Expects students to already be master geneticists prior to this class. Would take the other prof for this class over her.
Sweeting began with a recap at each class, no attendance policy. 5 lecture exams, 2 lab exams, 10 pre lab quizzes. A little extra credit. One paper that she grades easy. Beware of the pre lab quizzes. Be super detailed and cite the lab book. She grades them ridiculously hard and inconsistently. Always review exams at her office; she has been wrong.
There is homework, and the book's help is confusing , but she will gladly clarify any issues that you have. 4 exams, 1 paper, and a poster, as well as homework. Not too bad
Bio111A is a hard class in itself but professor Sweeting makes it better. Her notes are powerpoints and usually all the material are on the tests. She's funny sometimes too, I didn't study much so I did average in the class but if you study you'll easily get an A or B. I would totally take her again
This class is very difficult. The key to pass is to look over notes and power points after each lecture, you MUST talk to her if something doesn't make sense, and you need to do the homework. She uses a similar formats from homework questions in her tests. Don't wait last minute. Do this throughout the semester. Makes test studying easier.
Dr. Sweeting makes you work for your grade. Bio 111A is a difficult class but is attainable if you go to lecture, take good notes and read the text book! Her exams are difficult and the prelab worksheets are very difficult to get 100% on. She is a very sweet and funny lady and is happy to help you out. I would take her if you want to learn!
Dr. Sweeting was a great prof with a wonderful sense of humor. Despite Genetics being a challenging course she made it enjoyable.
