She seems mean but she is not a hard grader. It is kind of scary to approach her but once you do, you realize that she is not she's very helpful.

She rubs most students off the wrong way. She isn't as hard as she makes herself seem. Just read and try and class and you'll be fine.

Don't be intimidated by her. Despite her snarky and sarcastic exterior, she really is quite helpful. Chacon is willing to be very personable and helpful. The tough outside is just a sign that she truly cares for the needs of her students.

Rubbed me the wrong way- hard to please in essays- annoying to hear lecture. Not difficult just a drag.

This professor is not as bad as everyone says. She is helpful and grades pretty easy. She is a little intimidating but if you can get past that and learn to work with her, she will do anything to help you with your grade.

Has an undeserved reputation for being harsh. She's fair and hard work is expected. If you don't want to learn -- don't take her class.

Anyone who has anything negative to say about this professor is because they are lazy. They probably have taken professors who set the bar low and therefore they remain lazy. She believes in her students. To all the lazy students out there: Wake Up, Your Are In College Now.

Grading is fair. Syllabus is very spread out percentage wise. Who cares if she has a bad day, schoool is business not fun. i care that she grades well and quite frankly very easy. ps. reading was very light considering this was a literature course. i recommend this class.

she tries to intimidate students at the beginning, but if you put in the effort, she will do what she can to help you succeed. people just have to be willing to do the work. read the material, participate in class and visit her office. you're not guarenteed an A (she's not easy) but you'll do fine. talk to her and do the work. she knows her stuff.

Don't like her. Tries to be intimidating but it's not hard to do well in her class. BE ON TIME! Has this STUPID rule that if you're late you can't turn in your work; not good for commuters. At times, she will try to degrade a student by talking down to them as if they are children or too stupid to comprehend. Extremely annoying but grading is fair.

Ignore what you read from other students. Professor Chacon is very fair and clear. She is always well prepared and knows her subject matter. I learned so much from herclass, and enjoyed every moment. She is clear about assignments. Her grading is fair, but not a giveaway. I enjoyed her personality and sense of humor.

She is very easy going and helpful, even when it comes to preping us before a quiz. She doesn't do anything to confuse her student. Tries to get everyone involved in discussions, but nothing is mandatory. Everything discussed in class is on the tests.

Prof Chacon is a great teacher. She is always avail to those who want help. She is tough but not unreasonable; we are in college after all. You'll need to do the homework and study but if you pay attention in class and are clear and exact on your exams you should do fine.

Chacon is my favorite english teacher of all time!! She is extremely intelligent, fun, and witty. She has a dry sense of humor, but you will love her! She always has a great line-up of novels/stories and great writing assignments. Nothing on the tests comes out of left field. She is so awesome and sweet!

The class is not easy but it is enjoyable. She is very cute and funny to the people who get her but others find her personality annoying. I loved her class.

She is a teacher that takes some getting use to, but she is a great teacher. If you take the time to listen you can learn alot from her. She has a dry humor that is too funny. If you try you'll get an A, if not you'll get lower.

She's not hot, I was just kidding, but she is pretty cool. Despite the perception of a complete lunatic one might get from her quirks, she knows her stuff. I found the material to be for the most part to be interesting, and her instruction to be fairly funny. If you ever find yourself in a participation stalemate, call out the word, "Racism."

Professor Chacon is one of the best educators I have ever had. Not an easy class, but very interesting and moving, she cares about what she is teaching and its relevant history. I fond her also very helpful as she stated she would be available for office hours. Not a sweet talking person, more down to business, so if your sheltered, dont sign up

She is extremely particular, but if you pay attention to her, she basically will give you all the answers to tests the day before, etc. She has a great dry wit, which I think many do not get from reading some of the other ratings, she cracks me up. Show interest in her class, and you benefit. She WILL call you out for being unprepared or late.

i dont know what the other people are talking about but she is really chill. if you pay attention in her class she will give you the answers to her quizzes and tests. the mini oral presentation is ridiculous just read what is in her text book that she made then you will be fine.

If you go to class, participate from time to time, do the homework... you'll do well on the tests! She's actually very funny and intelligent! she really knows her stuff. If you put in the time and effort, you'll pass the class pretty easily.

Chacon's class is not hard..she gives all the answers for quizzes during class (she doesnt try to trick you). She is very picky though, but it's nothing too crazy. If you are mature then you'll be fine. there is also not a large workload. the people complaining about her are probably just immature.

She's an odd ball this one... very strange... She grades ridiculously hard, but luckily she curves the grade based on the highest received grade.. Can be rude but she is also very nice.. if that makes any sense.. Don't get too close to her and don't ever put your paper on her desk... She will literally go nuts on you. I got an A+ but it was painful

She is really good at teaching. She is not very hard. I had fun taking her this semester. I thought she would be tough but she was very chill. I would take her again. She was easier then my other hard classes. I would recommended to get her.

A great way to beef up your writing skills with a teacher who takes some getting used to, but really does care about you if you take the time to get to know her. The classes are not to hard and Chacon will help you with everything!

A LOT of people highly disliked her in my class, but I didn't have a big problem. Yes, she is a B, but she's not hard. The homework is easy and she tells you EXACTLY what she wants on the tests/exams. Is it her fault you weren't paying attention when she clearly said THIS MIGHT BE ON THE EXAM? I would take her again.

One of the best classes I have ever taken at CSUN! Professor Chacon assigned really interesting novels and facilitated some intense class discussions. She also has a sharp wit and a great sense of humor.

Honestly, I think this is by far the best english class I have ever taken. I do agree that she is a tough grader, but if you participate and put in effort on the assignments then you will get a good grade. The class is not boring and she is hilarious at times. She may seem loud and complain a lot but she always lets us get away with things

She gives clear direction on what she wants, if you pay attention to that and put in the effort then you will pass. She tells you what are on the quizzes and exams.
