great instructor - very straightforward! online notes
Funny, knows her sh*t, very approachable, down-to-earth, willing to help. Exams and grading are fair. Lectures straightfwd - you will understand microeconomics! Lecture slides online, weekly prob sets.
She's very nice and grades fair, but she often made mistakes during my lectures. Then again, I only attended 5 lectures and pulled off a B+.
she's a great professor and makes class interesting, but MAKE SURE you study. her exams aren't as straightfoward as she is.
Her lectures are interesting. Very student friendly instructor, grades fairly. Highly recomended
she explains things very clearly, making book easier to understand. Looks out for students grades.
very good teacher....dresses very well and is down to earth...makes mistakes just like everyone else but knows her ****...not an easy class but she has a great way of helping students study..she gives you some of the questions on the exam..curves grades
Really great teacher. Helpful, funny, interesting, and she makes challenging material not only easy to understand but also interesting.
seems like an approachable prof. Wouldn't know. Almost never showed up to lecture, read the book and did the hwk. getting an A so far. she's a great prof that looks out for your grade.
Not an easy class, but a fair one to say the least (curves the grades). Knows the subject and makes sure the students know it as well.
She's the best among microecon teachers. Good as a teacher and fair as a grader. Her TAs are another matter though, don't bother going unless you need to copy the answer to the homework.
If your a prebusiness student take her..shes very nice and makes sure everyone gets the concepts, even in a huge lecture hall...im in the business school now and so far she has been the only professor who actually cares about her students..very approachable person plus her TAs are easy graders..lets you bring a cheat sheet to exams plus curves
A very helpful and interesting professor who really knows what she is talking about. Her stories from her experience of being on the Tax reform panel make the classes realy very interesting. Learnt a lot and enjoyed it. She is willing to help u and assist u in every possible way. I really thankful to her.
shes spunky and actually wants to be there.. but dont kid yourself because the class is HARD..no other comment..
Great professor. Knows her stuff and tries to make a hard class understandable for everyone. Her tests are easy if u go to class and do ur problem set or practice problems.
I don't know what everyone else is smoking, but this is an extremely easy class. The prof. is very helpful and clear, and as such its a great course. I wish she could cover more material, though, as most of the coursework is just basic economics.
she is so nice... cant beat the hyperness either... def. one of the best
she is a very interesting and fun person. she's awesome as a professor too. i def. recommend her. not hard if u study.
she is very easy goin, and professional, uses different interactive methods to explain dry stuff.
Amazing professor, she knows the subject EXTREMELY thoroughly, and her teaching methods are of the highest caliber. Truly a perfect class for a freshman is any class by altshuler.
Easy as long as u read the book. Most questions similar to practice exam questions. Gives extra credit for random experiments. Never went to class and pulling off an A so far. Take her shes easy.
She is very helpful and is thorough in going over concepts if you go to class. However, it is pretty easy to not go to class and get a A/B. Def take her.
I'll be honest, I didn't attend class all that frequently this semester. However, Professor Altshuler always gave great lectures that were extremely clear. The final wasn't terribly difficult, but you definitely needed to study for it. However, she provided so much material to practice with on the class website... definitely recommend her!
Good lecturer, and an even better person. Online homework is annoying besides that its fine. I love when she wears jeans, mmm.
she looks like ellen degeneres. REALLY. shes pretty cool, and keeps a dull subject pretty entertaining. go to lecture. seriously. online homework is really annoying. but other than that, pretty fair teacher, nice, and approchable.
this lady is amazing - TAKE HER! she's down to earth, has a sense of humor, and makes micro easy. there's weekly online hw assignments but jus do them ahead of hand and its fine. def an easy A if you keep up with your work.
Awesome prof. truly trys to generate interest and cares about what students think. Class was easy I always showed up but you don't have to. Test come from reviews.
She knows her stuff but she is so BORING. She thinks she is interesting and helpful and knows everything but she doesnt. Truth is, is that all she does is teach from the book. I found it more useful studing the book and not going to class. Tests are straightforward but tricky, and TOO MUCH ONLINE HW, several EVERY WEEK.
Such an amazing and wonderful professor. Caring and nice person too. I would definetely take Micro again with her. Lets you have a cheat sheet on exams. And does reviews before exams, pretty USEFUL. If anyone doesn't get at least a B with Altshuler, then you just should not be a college student, PERIOD.
Good Prof. Not an easy class though. Need to do the work
One of the best professors I've ever had. She makes class fun with her anecdotes and her energy, and she does so much for us outside of class in terms of supplements for studying on her website. I highly recommend taking this course to any econ majors, probably the most useful econ course at rutgers to take into the real world
Best Econ professor at Rutgers by far. Her lectures blow away every other Econ professor I've had. She's extremely helpful. Material is not easy, but if you put in work and go to office hours, you'll get a good grade. If you take Econ at Rutgers, this is one professor you should take before you graduate. Absolutely the best.
Best econ teacher at Rutgers, no attendance, do the problems, read the ebook, extremely fair test, wish she taught more classes
Dynamic class. Funny and realistic. Some of the material drags, but she realizes that and succeeds in making it interesting. Straightforward tests, lenient grading schemes, easy to approach in class and via email. Class notes are helpful too.
Super nice lady. she makes everyone love her. there is no exception.
I can say she is the best economics professor in the states.Just take her. She is a Genius.
Nice person. Always there to help. Had her in my first semester, and have been waiting to get a professor like her since then. Super clear. Super helpful!! highly recommend to anyone.
*WARNING* Do not take this professor. She speeds through lectures, and it is almost impossible to get everything down. No curve. Tests were impossible. She is awful. Stay away!
This professor isn't all that great. VERY HARD MATERIAL. Brought my GPA down from a 3.9 to a 3.4 (my only C ever and I'm a junior)
This class is not at easy A. But it is an easy B.
Attendance isn't mandatory but she uses clickers for questions in class so you should go. Textbook is online. 2 grading schemes, whichever gives you the best grade
Nice try, last couple of posters. Only said that to trick gullible people into dropping the course. I'm taking her class for no credit this semester but I think it's worth it; she is pretty awesome.
Best microecon teacher. Very helpful, if you do the homework and study before exams you'll get an A. Makes class interesting and is a funny teacher.
uses aplia.com - book and homework are done online (you still have to pay). attendance not mandatory but clickers are used, however, they count for very little in the long run. had 2 grading "schemes" and chooses whichever gives you the best grade. overall very easy class and easy teacher.
One of the better and easier Microeconomics teachers. She's a good teacher, i would recommend going to classes even though notes are posted online. Uses iclicker and Aplia. Aplia is kinda hard. She tells pretty interesting stories but lectures can be somewhat boring. The tests are relatively challenging but not absolutely impossible. Take her!
Powerpoints are extremely helpful. She is a nice lady, who would answer all your questions during the office hour or after class. Although there is only a little curve for exams, clicker points and homework also counts toward your total grade. Homework is online, but easy. You would love it.
She is easily one of the best professors in Rutgers. Alot of students do really well and people think its cause her exams are really easy or something. However the reason everyone does so well is cause unlike other professors SHE TEACHES!! You learn everything in class. Very easy A if you can pay attention in class. Also a very nice person!
MY FAVORITE TEACHER EVER! She's an amazing teacher and funny! Very easy A if you just do the work and read the book. We're allowed to use a flash card for exams and that's all you need!
Good professor and goo econ teacher. Coming from a person who did not get an A in her class it's not an easy course.. her tests are kind of tricky and you do have to study pretty hard. She is a fair teacher and probably one of the best micro teachers at Rutgers.. I can't really say anything bad about her
i love this class! she uses clickers so attendance can really help your grade (or you can just give them to a friend) her tests are really reasonable and she's such a good teacher!!!! lol she makes funny jokes in class. and always has review sessions before tests. definitely take her for micro economics!!
So helpful! She's a taxation expert but really knows how to make things simple and relatable. TAKE HER! Aplia gets annoying but really helps. Will help not only for this class, but how to survive the econ major as well.
three words: LEGAL CHEAT SHEET
awesome!!! looks/dresses exactly like ellen-- it's crazy. if you put the work in you can def get an A. make sure you go to class for clickers/do the online homework on aplia (which is a little annoying). also really helpful if you have econ related advising type questions.
Makes the material simple, allows a cheat sheet for every exam, and is hysterical. She definitely resembles Ellen.
Recommend taking her, at least for Intro to Micro. Positive attitude, clear with explanations, exams are not very easy but aren't the hardest things in the world. Clickers are used almost every class. She puts up good slides. Gives Aplia HW which is a part of your grade; it helps understand the topics. Dont know much other prof, but I rec her.
She was def easy for Micro, but she got a lot harder for econtax she has realized her class was easy and now it does take a lot more effort to get a B in this class, then previously mentioned if you are willing to work and learn then this is the class for you, but not an easy A even for the people who work for it
The exams in this class are extremely difficult. I had a 3.8 in economics before I took this class and somehow got a C. I studied so much for this class but the exams are impossible. On top of that there are so many long, tedious, homework assignments.
Impossible to get an A in this class. Studied over 20 hours for each one and still got a B in the class. On top of that, we got homework assignment that take forever to complete.
Extremely difficult exams. Professor is easy for other classes but for economics of taxation, the exams were very difficult. Plus there were a lot of tedious homework assignments.
She has gotten ALOT more difficult she even said it the first day of classes last semester that she has caught onto the fact that the class is too easy and made it a more rigorous course Watch out it killed my gpa
I don't know what the people below me are on. As someone who didn't buy the book, all I can say is take detailed notes during lecture, and most importantly know the practice exams inside and out. Her curves were more than generous. An A is easily attainable.
Great professor, one of the best at Rutgers. An expert in her studies, taxation. Her class is not boring and material is fairly easy. This is not a class where you can MISS the lectures and expect to pass. Go to class, do the 4 assigned homework, and do some light studying before exam would be enough to secure a good grade.
Seriously one of the best professors at Rutgers. Really tries to help you understand the material and gives a sizable curve because she wants people to get good grades. If you're lucky enough to get into her class, go to lecture! She's funny and really engaging. One of the best. You can definitely get an A - just take good notes and read!
Taxation is a great class, and she is one of the best professors in the economics department. Very helpful, she does chatrooms and office hours to answer students' questions on the homework assignments. Go to class, and study a moderate amount, and you should do well!
Two grading methods; she chooses whichever gives you a better grade. Fun, helpful lectures with i>clicker, textbook, and online Aplia work. Exams were fair, but study. Don't underestimate how easy they seem.
Took the honors section. She's kind of tough and I worked a lot to get the A, but I love this professor. She's really sweet and genuinely cares about her students, and she does a really good job with teaching the material.
FAVORITE PROF!!Her lecture is really great and interesting.I want to major in Econ because of her!
Really easy class if you just show up, listen to the lectures and participate in her clicker questions. There isn't a need to buy the textbook because she uses aplia which includes the textbook. Chooses your final grade based on 2 schemes, which ever gives you a better grade. Super fun class and hilarious professor.
She is very helpful and will do anything to make sure she answers your question. She truly cares about her students! It is not mandatory to go to class however her class is one of the classes I wanted to go to because she was so enthusiastic about what she was teaching that day! I would definitely recommend her
Fantastic professor. Really cares about her students and is incredibly fair. She makes the subject interesting and does everything she can to help you learn the material! But you still have to do your work in reading the textbook and doing the hw. Take her if you can.
Professor Altshuler is the absolute best professor I've ever had the pleasure having at Rutgers University. Economics of Taxation is by far my favorite class in my last three years here at Rutgers. She is so helpful, funny, intelligent, and I am going to be so upset not having her next semester as a professor. The class is hard, but so worth it!
This was by far my favorite upper level Econ class at Rutgers. The material is a little hard, but she makes it clear what you should know and is very helpful. Her lectures go by quick and are engaginginteresting . Tests aren't too difficult if you go to class and study beforehand. Homeworks also help. Take this class, or any of hers, if you can!
Spectacular instructor and overall fantastic person in general. She will bend over backwards to help you. It's evident that she really likes her job and genuinely cares about students. Also, ignore the comments below. Econ of Taxation is a fairly easy class. Just take detailed notes, do your homework, and take her practice exams and you'll be set.
Very overrated professor. Doesn't explain things too well in lecture and office hours so I just went to class to write it down and learn on my own. Grades homework sets that are pretty hard. The real problem is her grading scheme. 12 Multiple choice questions are worth two times the 2 open-ended ones. I got CBs every exam for 2 MC wrong.
One of the best professors I've had at Rutgers. Great teacher, even better person. Always ready to help you, explains things clearly, makes taxation interesting. Make a reasonable effort to be there, take notes, and do the work and you'll learn a ton and get an A.
A nice woman but overrated professor. Flies through the material and doesnt explain it very well or in an interesting matter. Studying for the exams is really hard since theres not much to study from and the exams are really hard and confusing. The exam structure and grading criteria is also peculiar
Her Tax econ class is really hard. Notes are confusing and the exams are really hard. You have to really enjoy the economics of taxation a lot to do well in this class
If you take micro take this professor. She explains everything very well, gives you all the lecture slides, and her exams are multiple-choice only. Unfortunately, this is a class you have to go to every day and pay attention 100% of the time but it will be worth it at the end of the semester with a great grade and understanding of the material.
Okay, she is possibly the best professor I have had at RU. Lectures are always a blast if you actually pay attention and participate. The tests were all multiple choice, and she was always uses fun/relatable examples when explaining to make it more approachable.
The best professor I've had at RU. Class is not too difficult --> if you have to take micro, take it with her!! Instructions are clear, lectures are clear, weekly hw keeps you on top of the work so you don't fall behind. Amazing, amazing professor.
best micro professor, will drop a midterm and make final more heavy if it can help your grade. cares so much about the students, accommodated so well for students for the pandemic. truly the most compassionate professor i have ever had.
Prof. Altshuler is amazing. She is always open to feedback and is willing to change to ensure student success. She is really helpful and loves her students. The class had quite a bit of reading, but it was very manageable. Be sure to attend her recitations, they are crazy helpful for the quizzes.
Professor Altshuler is excellent in explaining economic concepts, and is the most caring professor I have ever had at Rutgers. I can even feel her passion in teaching through the recorded lectures. I won't call Rutgers a FAKE world class university if all Rutgers professors are as professional as Professor Altshuler.
Professor Altshuler is the gem of Rutgers Economics Department. I had Altshuler for Intro to Micro and she adjusted really well to remote learning during COVID. Altshuler records her lectures and recitations for her asynchronous class and even provides office hours at your own convenience. Professor Altshuler is what makes Rutgers great. Easy B+/A.
She is a very nice professor and was always willing to offer extra help. She does a great job teaching as she is extremely knowledgeable in the field. Only complaint is that the weekly quizzes had too few of questions, making there be more of a penalty for only getting a couple wrong. Class consists of only weekly quizzes/hw and a final.
Professor Altshuler is amazing. I retook Micro after not doing so well my freshman year, and she's definitely the best in the department. She genuinely cares about the course and the students and is more than willing to make adjustments if you need her to. The Sapling software helped a lot and her final was not too hard. Great professor, 10/10!!!!
