She took over class midway into semester but did great job. Very, very nice and always available for help. She really wants her students to succeed.
She is honestly the sweetest thing ever. She cares about her students and really wants them to succeed. I love that the class wasn't a survey of world religions. We discuss current topics and she wants to keep her students interested. Three sort papers (5 pages each) and slightly longer final (8-10 pages). VERY available to talk outside of class.
My favorite professor for freshman year. She is one of those professors who truly cares for her students, very available for out of class questions, and her class topics were very interesting. Definitely one of the best POG classes.
She is a very nice, sweet person who wants her students to understand and do well, but she is very wishy washy and confusing in class. She doesn't explain topics and ideas clearly, but in the end, it doesn't really matter because she's an easy grader as long as you can write well. 6 papers in total (5 pages), no tests
She's a great professor. The class itself is very interesting and you learn about religion in a modern context, which I found to be really interesting. Just take good notes in class, and you'll be ready for the papers. Easy grader overall, but great class and you learn a lot about different religions. She's really helpful in answering questions too
A really genuine teacher who knows her material and cares about her students. The course is interestingly organized, as is class itself if you're willing, as you should, to engage with the texts. Highly recommend her.
Morici is very sweet. She loves what she teaches and she loves her students. She is an extremely slow grader and grades things too difficulty for the class. That said, she's definitely a good teacher for someone who isn't looking forward to POG
I loved her class, a good choice for problem of god!
Sweet, charismatic and cares about her students. Clear, interesting & engaging lectures. Analyzes several religions through different themes in modern context. Four 5-6 pg papers, easy grader. Loves to hear questions. Do the readings. Definitely take.
This class was pretty easy, but I would not say this class is for student who had a genuine interest in theology. Furthermore, I did not find her grading to be as consistent as other suggested. Paper prompts are unfocused, and it seems that grades are very reflective of whether or not office hours were attended. Also, terribly slow grader.
Comment below is pretty accurate--Morici's sweet, but if you're looking for a real intro to religion class, look elsewhere. Class is more like English than Theology, and the papers (four @ 6-8 pages) are mostly about analyzing texts. Not too hard, though, if you pay attention in class.
The class is interesting but the papers are graded like english papers. there are much easier POG classes to take. she is really nice but i wouldnt recommend it
Okay, definitely not a Problem of God class for those of you who prefer to take the easy route. But this is one of the more interesting classes I've ever taken at Georgetown (sophomore now). She's fantastic, material is super cool. Extremely helpful in office hours.
Very clear in terms of what she wants from students. Response papers are really easy if you summarize the material well.. She is a lenient grader and very helpful in office hours. Take her. Very Recommended.
She is super nice and kind. The class is purely discussion based so the excitement depends on your class' level of engagement. She is a fair grader but if you have to do the readings and take your time on the papers to do well. 5 reflection papers, 10 page midterm and final. A lot of reading and writing. More like an English class.
Wonderful professor. 5 reflection papers, 8 page midterm, and an 8-10 page final that only require reading the texts. Class is discussion based so attendance and effort means a good grade and lots of knowledge. I would highly recommend taking any class led by Morici (smart and nice!)
Such a smart and kind professor! Definitely take if you want an easy yet thought provoking Problem of God class (but don't take if you're expecting a super philosophical POG class). She's also very helpful with the midterm and final, which are both take home. Trust me, take this class!
Great class. Very responsive to questions and in office hours. Attendance is key and remember to take notes.
Class discussion is mind numbingly boring, as are readings. 5 short papers, 10 page midterm and 10 page final. A lot of reading and a lot of writing. Decently lenient grader and willing to help with work. Careful, sometimes she contradicts what she says to you in person when she grades.
Prof Morici is the nicest person! Personally I'm not a fan of theology but her passion for the topic and helpfulness definitely made it bearable. If you like theology you'll absolutely LOVE her--if you don't it'll be a good way to get the requirement out of the way. Take her if you can!
Rosanne's lectures were interesting and she loves to hear what you think about the readings. However, at times it felt like our class was veering away from actually theology and into the realm of sociology and politics. Which was fine, but not expected. Morici is very funny and friendly, I would definitely take her again. An easier PoG class.
Prof. Morici is very intelligent and her enthusiasm for the class is exciting. The class is difficult and time consuming with a lot of reading and writing. Thought she was funny and helpful but would've definitely picked a different POG class if I could. Material is extremely difficult... another POG prof. laughed @ what we were reading.
Professor Morici was one of the kindest professors I had this semester. She's so warm and helpful and genuinely cares about her students and her subject. The workload is not intense and honestly you don't always have to do the readings; in the end there's a bit of writing (4 really short papers, 8 page midterm and 8 page final) but nothing too bad.
Morici takes a different approach, looking at how modern society uses religion. The readings are long and often dry, but you can get the gist from discussions (even if you skimmedskipped). Only graded assignments are 4 2-pg responses, 2 (difficult) 5-pg midterm essays, & one 10-pg final paper. Not an easy A, but possible. My favorite class.
One of the best professors I had so far! She is always ready to stay after class and help!! I would definitely take her class again!!
I found Morici's classes to be mind-numbingly boring. There would be entire classes I would just zone out the entire time. Also, she uses the word "Right?" to end almost every sentence, which can be irritating. I pulled of an A- doing almost none of the reading. I would recommend a different professor if like me you don't like theology.
Amazing class if you choose to engage the material and discussions. Morici explores theology through topics like martyrdom, gender, violence, and race, which made for some of the most interesting and relevant class discussions I've experienced at Georgetown. Intelligent and kind professor. Very funny. Highly recommend!
Fantastic class and wonderful professor - a caring, down-to-earth, and thought-provoking teacher who loves to hear from students and gets excited about their ideas. Great choice for POG.
Professor Morici takes a great approach to The Problem of God by examining the relationship between religion and power. The class takes a very objective approach to religion, and fairly evaluates a number of different approaches. It is not necessary to have a religious background, and class discussions are what you make of them.
This class is great if you are interested and have time to do all of the readings. If not, lectures can get pretty boring. Papers are really easy and short although her feedback isn't always clear. This is an easy class and there are no tests, so it's worth sitting through the lectures even if you don't have anything to say.
TAKE PROFESSOR MORICI FOR PROBLEM OF GOD. Don't just default to registering for Sanders for POG because the entire Freshman class is doing that. Morici's class was fascinating, and the reading load was pretty light. She baked cookies twice and cancelled easily 5 classes. She's really nice and wants to make her class a great experience. Take her
Professor Morici is so nice. She thinks hard and cares about how she chooses to present the material, which I appreciated. A few short papers is all she asks for. Since every POG is different, you should know she chooses to examine a certain facet of each of the various major religious traditions and their relationship with power.
very sweet lady who care about students. cancels class. lectures helpful bc she goes into the readings in more depth. 3 short response papers just to make sure you read and then midterm and final papers. no tests and you can skate by without reading in close detail. very unbiased and covers other religions besides Christianity. discussion-based
Prof. Morici is very passionate and devoted to teaching. A lot of reading but it's mostly very interesting. A favorite for Problem of God, so take her if you can! Looking forward to taking other theology classes with her!
Her class is mainly based on discussion, so if you answer questions, participate, and discuss things in class she will love you! Papers are not at all bad, just actually do the reading and have some idea what you think about it and you'll be fine. She's very sweet and I definitely enjoyed her class.
One of the most passionate professors I've ever worked with. She genuinely cares about her students and wants you to do well - that doesn't mean she won't make it easy. A huge amount of readings that you can possibly get away with not completing for every class, but classes run on peer discussions. Would take her again for my second THEO
I took Morici for Problem of God my first semester. The class was fine, but nothing more. There was a lot of reading, but you could kinda get away with not doing it all. Grade is based upon three short essays and the final. Not the mot fascinating class, but not horrible either.
One of my favorite professors at Georgetown. Professor Morici is so kind and is always willing to help you with papers or even with just understanding readings. There is quite a bit of reading, but the assignments (5 short papers papers and 1 final project) are straightforward. Discussions were always interesting and engaging. Take this class!
She's one of the funniest teachers at Georgetown and cares about her students. She cancels class all the time and she doesn't just teach about Christianity; you get a really good understanding of most major religions. Some of the material is boring but it's a pretty easy A if you don't slack off and participate in class.
I loved Morici. POG was v reasonable- 4 3-page reflection papers on any reading of your choice, and then 1 final paper 10-12pgs (longer than I expected but it turned out fine). Meet with her before you turn in papers or put just a little effort in and you'll definitely get an A. I learned a lot about religion and would highly recommend taking her.
Professor Morici actually cares about her students! This might seem wild at Georgetown, but it's true! She lectures well and provides good feedback on essays. Take her!
I was really dreading taking Problem of God, but Morici made it so interesting and accessible to a non-religious person! It wasn't at all preachy and we focussed on religion and power in 5 major world religions. The reading wasn't too much, and we had four 2-3 page response papers as well as a 10 page final paper. She's also hilarious!
So many readings - you don't have to read them if you don't intend on talking during class, however if you don't talk during class your participation grade won't cushion your grades on papers. Only allows you to get a 75, 85, or 95 on papers (nothing in-between). Don't expect an A unless you write something she personally agrees with. 10-12pg final
I couldn't disagree more with the previous review. Morici is AWESOME - passionate, smart, funny and kind. The readings are challenging, but the load is manageable. Her expectations are clear; demonstrate critical and creative thinking, which she models and encourages in class. It is not enough to uncritically offer up opinions, hers or your own.
I took Prof Morici for Problem of God for freshman fall and I had such a fantastic experience that I signed up for my second class with her without even knowing what the topic was. She really cares about her students, and is always willing to meet people to discuss essays outside of class. One of the best professors I've ever had at Georgetown
Professor Morici is the nicest professor I've ever had. Lots of laughs in her class even amongst heavy topics. Her lectures are very interesting and she succinctly explains complex and nuanced concepts with engaging language. She really makes you think. 4 four-page papers that you can do at any point, on any reading, and 1 final paper
TAKE! Amazing professor & person! Learned so much & not just about religion. Couldn't imagine a better PoG class. Material was already interesting, and she made it even more so w/ her incredible passion and knowledge. Doesn't favor 1 religion. Learn lots about 4 major ones! Professors like her are 1 reason why I am so proud to say I'm a Hoya.
I've heard complaint that people didn't like her use of the Nation of Islam for our Islam section, which I'll concede is not great, but I still think she was a fantastic, engaging professor who really knew what she was talking about and encouraged all sorts of discussion from varying perspectives.
One-of-a-kind professor. Morici's enthusiasm, intelligence and humor made class exciting. She brilliantly combines compassion and critical thinking in her approach to every topic. She chooses interesting and diverse readings and leads compelling discussions. Reading Malcolm X in particular was a formative experience and a highlight of the semester.
Morici is dope. Class discussions are engaging, and you can get by pretty easily without doing all the reading. If you can impress her, she's got your back for the whole semester.
Absolutely amazing and would 100% take again. Theology is not very interesting to me, but Morici's lectures are very engaging. She cares a lot about the well being of her students and she wants you to do well. She is very helpful during office hours and appreciates students that seek help. Loved her!
Morici utilizes Socratic discussion, with a distinct focus on what students have to say. Lecture heavy, but every lecture ends up with students speaking rather than her. The papers are straightforward and manageable, and the content is interesting. She really cares about her course and the students in it.
Morici's class is a good way to fulfill your second theology. She is very kind and funny, and the class is very low-key. The readings are substantial but very skimmable and you're not expected to know them well. The discussions are thought-provoking and you will come out of it thinking about religion and images in new ways. Highly recommend!
Morici's PoG class takes a practical approach to theology, examining specific topics in each each religion (Love in Islam, Non-violence in Hinduism). For the papers, as long as you write something thoughtful and engage with the material, you get an A. Readings are long but you can get by without doing them all. Incredibly caring and genuine Prof.
Professor Morici is by far one of the best professors I've had at Georgetown. She truly cares about her students and is so passionate about art and theology. This was an incredible second theology elective to take. There were readings, but they were skimmable and she would give a recap each class. An amazing class and wonderful professor!
Great professor who is responsive to students' needs, hilarious, and so smart. Her lectures are great because of her knowledge and passion for what she talks about. Highly recommend for theology req.
This woman is incredible. She is an AMAZING professor. Her PoG class is an easy A- (at least) if you seek her help and ask her to read over your papers before they're due. Her lectures are interesting, and she speaks with so much passion for theology. Find a way to take her class, you will not regret it.
LOVE Prof. Morici. She is so helpful, caring, and funny. I will definitely be taking her class again. Don't have to do all the readings. 4 3-page papers and a 10-12 page Final Paper.
Prof Morici is really kind and helpful and cares about her students. Final paper is a lot easier if you take notes and do consistent readings for at least two units. Chosen readings are really interesting and class is good for people with no religious background.
Hands down the best professor I have had at Georgetown. Her Problem of God class was never boring and the assignments were manageable and graded fairly. You do not have to do all of the readings to do well but they are very interesting and she likes to hear personal ideas in the assignments so there is a lot of freedom. Take her class if you can!!
Professor Morici has been my favorite professor at Georgetown so far. Reading is assigned every class, but skimming a few won't hurt. As long as you are engaged in lectures (take notes, talk occasionally), the class is pretty straightforward. Extremely helpful with papers during office hours and super nice person!
If you want to learn about various religions, then this is your class. Prof. Morici's lectures are informative and engaging, and you can skim the readings. The four 3-page papers and a longer final paper are all very manageable. I got a B+ as I couldn't master her preferred style of writing, but don't let that discourage you from taking her class!
Professor Morici is one of the best teachers I've had at Georgetown. I took her for Problem of God and loved her so much that I took her "Martyrdom & Meaning" class. She goes over all assigned readings in class, so you can get away with not reading every text. She is such an understanding person, and she cares about meeting you where you're at.
took her for POG and loved her so much i took her for icons&idols too! relatively easy theo elective, class was always interesting and she is very passionate about art and theology. encourages you to write about what you're interested in and very helpful in office hours. also super flexible with covid accommodations! my fav professor!
Class is just composed of 5-6 papers. Really lax deadlines on papers which alleviated stress. She is super kind and really cares about what she teaches, however she has a history background not theology so she is a little wrong sometimes but also offers an incredibly fresh perspective to religion and martyrdom. Would take another class with her!
Professor Morici is so wholesome and so loving. She is so nice and really helpful when it comes to essays. She is willing to meet outside of class and is super accommodating with time differences. She gives really great feedback for essays. We only had to write 4 papers the entire semester.
Prof. Morici is the best professor! She is so kind and really cares about her students. She emphasizes that students prioritize their mental health. She is super open to scheduling times to meet outside of class. 4 papers during the semester. She covers Christianity, Judaism, Hinduism, and Islam. She is awesome! Take this class!
The best prof! Having rebelled from the catholic church, I was very apprehensive about taking a theology class. However, Prof Morici was a great choiceshe is so engaging, kind and caringand some of the content was very interesting and unconventional (e.g. Malcolm X), so if you like history I'd recommend. The work load was also very manageable.
I absolutely loved having Prof Morici for the Problem of God. She's the nicest soul out there and really understanding about having to miss a class or asking for an extension. Her lectures are engaging and essays are 100% manageable.
I took Icons and Idols with Professor Morici, and she is always thoroughly willing to really help you write a meaningful paper. There are no quizzes or exams, just short papers that seem difficult but are really manageable. She is a really wonderful person, cares a lot about her students' mental health and makes class interesting. Respect!
She is honestly the most caring professor ever. It would be a mistake not to take her class! There's quite a lot of reading but everything is so interesting and informative. It really changed my perspective and got me thinking critically.
Morici is really sweet and cares a lot about the material. I didn't find the class or assignments difficult at all, and I feel like she did a great job of leading discussions. Highly recommend going to her office hours just because she's so nice to talk to!
Take Morici for POG! There is a fair amount of reading with 4 reflection papers and an 8 page final, but she grades pretty easy. She is very kind and understanding and makes you smile, even at 10 am on a Monday.
Take Professor Morici for Problem of God! She makes the classes very interesting and is extremely passionate about what she teaches. She is also very helpful during office hours so if you take advantage of them, you will definitely do great in the class.
Professor Morici is amazing. She's insanely kind and caring and doesn't grade participation because she didn't like to participate when she was in college. There's not a lot of work for this class... all you have to do is write four 3 page papers and then a final paper. Def take this if you're trying to get your theology requirement out of the way!
she is really amazing and you should take her class. she is very understanding of needing extensions or to go over things that are difficult for you. her soul is very pure and even if you say something unintelligent in class she will not shame you at all but you don't need to speak up in the first place. she grades generously. please be kind to her
Good choice for a professor for Problem of God. One criticism is that the main assignment, the majority of final grade - 4 brief essays - lack a rubric which might be good for English-savvy people but that is not me. I struggled with the first two but went to her office hours and did so much better after. Slow grading/email response, but so so kind
I love professor morici. she is the only professor I had this semester that made me feel like she cared about me and wanted to talk to me about the material. Her written assignments aren't very difficult if you go to her office hours, and she is never too demanding. The reading can be a lot, but it is all very interesting. Great POG choice.
Morici is the best! If you want a PoG class that focuses more on the historical and current applications of religion rather than the theological arguments for religion or philosophy of religion, then take Morici. You have to read for lectures but she goes over the readings thoroughly. 4 papers + 1 short canvas discussion. Could not recommend more.
Morici is a GREAT choice for POG, she focuses on the history and practical applications of religion while learning about different faiths. Her lectures are interesting, there was more reading than I expected, but you dont always have to do it all. She is very nice about giving extensions for papers and if you go to her office hours she will help.
Very kind teacher, understanding, and you don't have to participate. You write a total of 4 papers and a discussion post. Pretty good way to start your day.
Would definitely recommend Prof Morici for POG. The classes are usually a bit of her lecturing and then mostly student-led discussion. She sometimes takes a while to give back papers and can be a bit disorganized, but is a good professor, accessible outside of class for office hours, and a very caring person.
5 papers that were 4-5 pages each that spanned across five different units. no tests or quizzes, and because i love writing, this class slayed. also, participation is not factored into your grade if that is not your vibe, so all students (even if u r quiet) can succeed. she gave me a 100 on all my papers, and i skimmed rdgs before each paper.
Prof. Morici is the BEST! Decent amount of reading but you can get away with skimming. Very lenient grader and you only have 4 short essays and a discussion post. Participation only counts in your grade if it helps you. She is truly the sweetest and so understanding. Interesting lectures and discussion, love the focus on history. Take her for POG!!
I absolutely loved Prof Morici's class. Despite there being a substantial amount of reading, the content was so interesting. Moreover, she is genuinely the kindest human ever, and speaking to her during office hours always made my day brighter. Take her class!!!
Prof. Morici is a great choice for Problem Of God. Lots of readings, but optional to participate in class discussions, and the assignments (4 5-page papers) are graded fairly. Also, she is the kindest, most understanding professor ever.
Incredibly kind, good lecturer, and fairly graded papers. Reading is heavy, but you can get away with skimming. Go to her office hours!!! She is a great mentor and a wonderful person to talk with
Morici is genuine, kind, and understanding. Papers are short (5-6 pages) and she's a generous grader. Some people have said readings were long, but I felt they were pretty standard. One issue I have was some of the readings and topics were not interesting. Certain religions are covered so in depth to the point where there's nothing left to say.
Take Morici for POG! I took her because my friend recommended I do and I don't regret it one bit. Class is just discussion and she really wants to delve deep in a class conversation about the interesting topics. 5 short papers, of which you're flexible in the topic you want to write about relating to the topic and she understands if you submit late
The goat. Such a kind soul, so caring and understanding of student's needs. Very interesting lectures, participation is optional, and if you put in effort you can get an A on every paper with ease. Absolutely take if you have the chance.
Recommend 100%
She is a great professor and super easy, would highly recommend
Love love LOVE Morici. Seriously. If you have the opportunity to take her, TAKE HER. She genuinely cares about all of her students, and gives easy grades to top it all off.
Professor Morici teaches a POG about how religion plays out and impacts culture, which is super interesting. Classes are very few lectures and primarily discussions of the reading but participation is not harshly graded. She did not grade most of the assignments until the very end of the semester or provide any feedback on those assignments.
Exceptional Problem of God professor. Very engaging lectures, three papers, and three discussion posts. She keeps it light and still teaches you a lot.
Professor Morici is extremely caring, and it is hard to find a more genuine Professor here at Georgetown. This is a reading-heavy class, and you will learn a lot from homework and the topics are fascinating. Though the lectures in class are sparse, they are packed with interesting information, and class is very discussion-driven.
Prof Morici's POG course is a great way to fulfill a theology requirement. With no tests and just 4 short papers, the workload is light. Participation isn't graded, so even quiet students can succeed. Unstuck study was a lifesaver for prepping those papers.
Took Prof Morici for Martyrdom and Meaning and she was truly a great professor. Can get away with skimming (or honestly skipping) a lot of the readings, and essays are very doable. Participation is fully optional, and the final project is actually pretty interesting and engaging. Definitely recommend her for any class!
taken spring 2024. great POG choice. i appreciated the wide scope of topics in various religions. learned a lot of interesting stuff. easy grader and flexible with deadlines too if necessary. don't need to participate so much either.
