Ms. Pugh is an EXCELLENT professor. She provides incredibly helpful notes throughout the course, fields questions quickly. I see her as focusing more on the quality of the work students are doing more than the quantity -- you do fewer, but tougher problems. My grade for her: A+!
I took Ms. Pugh's course online after a tough Math 99 experience (passing by a fiery hair), and wasn't quite sure what to expect. Ms. Pugh made lots of "math stuff" clear to me and helped get me on though to Math 120. If you have to take an online math class, which is already a tough proposition, take Pugh.
Rose Pugh is one of the worst teachers I have ever had. She actually made me reconsider my major so I could quit math. She seems less concerned with teaching and more concerned with adherence to her ridiculous rules. Moreover, she teaches the course within the role of a pirate and this detracts markedly from the curriculum.
You use a CD for the class, and do tests online which are easy. She assigns homework, but the questions she asks are really hard and confusing. You take midterms on campuss, and those tests are really hard and confusing too. She writes leture notes that are supposed to help you do your homework and the tests, but they don't.
This is my 3rd and last math class. YEAH! Math has never been my thing but at bcc I have had great teachers. I didn't feel that Ms. Pugh was clear with what she wants and her quizes and exam are exteremly hard. If you are thinking online will be easy this class isn't at all.
HARD!!! I took it online which may have been part of the problem but she is VERY unclear. Tests are confusing and the lecture notes for each unit are supposed to help but they normally DONT! I used to love math and get good grades, now Im actually worried about failing
In her online course, Professor Pugh is good as pointing out what material to go over and will answer any questions you have. She's also lenient enough for students to discuss homework assignments and quizzes on the class forum. While she doesn't spoon-feed the class material, she's fair about helping you understand it.
Took her class online and it was soooo much work! Need to contribute to discussions 2x a week, homework turned in every few days, quizzes every few days (the quizzes on the cd were easy though),and took exams at the school which were really diffucult! Exams were very tricky and all word problems.
I took her online 105 class. At first it seemed like it would be overwhelming b/c of pages & pages of the info. she provides but ended up not too bad. The quizes are really easy, but the homework & tests were challenging. She is not an easy teacher, but I found her helpful & reasonable, & felt like she really does want her students to succeed.
The teacher invested more time into the math lab that she ran, than actually teaching. She set up lessons and expected students to teach themselves. I understood the math book better than her lessons. Not a good sign.
I wasn't expecting this to be an easy class, but Pugh made it much harder than it had to be, by not TEACHING!All she does is hand out assignments, is not thorough with steps. You will definitely be teaching yourself. I took this class online at another college!
I wouldn't recommend taking Pugh for any online Math. She is not helpful. She respondes to students' emails/posts after the assignment due date, 99% of the time. She went on retreat right before the exam, so you can't get any help from her as you study for the exam. Please don't take her because you'll be disappointed.
Took her online class, the exam study guides were nearly identical to the exams and the class was a breeze. She understood when I was unable to turn something in on time because of an emergency, thus I was able to get an A
Online-Calculus. She boasts of writing math books, so she writes the lessons for the class (sometimes textbook is more clear). WORST part: Her tedious requirements for submitting the 8 hw assignments as a Word doc converted to PDF by email(adds an hour to each assignment). Grading takes forever! BEST: Practice exams closely resemble Midterm/Final.
I took this in the online forum. Her assignments and practice tests closely resemble the actual midterm/final.However,your final grade is based on your performance on the final, she takes your grade and puts the + or -in front of it based on the final test score. If you had an B+ but got a 70% or less on the final you actually get an B-.
I took the class online and found it much easier than I thought it would be. Her notes and practice tests were great. Rose is pretty funny and cool especially for a math teacher.
Worst teacher ive ever had. Received A+ in all my honors high school math classes and have extreme interest in subject. Not only is she not clear, she makes it down right confusing. Terrible! Avoid at all costs!
Your grade was based off of two exams, but the teacher couldn't be bothered to show up for them. Unclear instructions. This is a tough class and unless you are already a math whiz, don't take it online. She cares much more that your assignments look prim and proper than the math being correct. There's 90 days of my life I'll never get back.
This math course is self taught.Rose rarely posts in the discussion area, which means your questions will be answered by other students who are just as lost, has not returned a single assignment yet(1 month into course)& her set up of the class site is confusing at best.Bottom line, avoid this teacher unless you're great at teaching yourself.
Explains everything crystal clear! attendance is not mandatory. but her lectures are very useful. she fills up the entire class time with useful knowledge. very tough grader but if you listen/take notes/study on own time you'll definately pass. no point in taking this class if your a slacker, thats for sure.
This teacher is very confusing and inflexible. She explains things in a fast way for those students that math comes easy to. She is not very helpful if you have questions or need clarification. Avoid her class and take with another prof.
This teacher is very unhelpful and doesn't seem to care about her students learning the material. She assigns a lot of homework but can be brash if you ask her a question about it. I find myself uninspired to sit and listen to her lecture and learn beginning algebra. Take this class from another teacher unless you plan to teach yourself.
I've had many bad teachers, but not only was she bad at teaching she was plain rude! I took her class online and actually did not get credit for one of my assignments because the title and format of the paper was wrong. She makes asking a question so difficult. Worst teacher ever. period.
There are few assignments. She gives lectures on how to do everything. Making it very easy if you know your stuff. She is nice, and really weird. But a generally good teacher.
Rose is a great professor. Although she is strict--will give you a 0 on an assignment if it isn't formatted properly-- she's also fair. She wants her students to succeed and gives the resources necessary to do so. Her study guides are SUPER helpful, I would have done poorly without them. Her lecture notes are PRICELESS. I recommend this class.
it was seemed as if it was a very repetitive class. She was helpful with explaining the key terms. But sometimes she remembered to leave out other ways of doing a problem. She would go over the same problem just with different numbers, many times. Which is good if youre a first timer
Avoid this teacher at all costs! The second you get this teacher drop the class!!!!!
Almost the entire grade is based on 3 test scores, if you are not a good test taker, then this is a bad class for you. If I had known that, I would have moved to a different teacher.
Honestly, she's not as bad as I thought. But that maybe because I took an online class and do not see her often. She is definitely very strict about things like homework submission and exam arrangements. She does really help students at all, because she believes that you , as a student , are responsible for your own learning.
So I took this class online - BIG mistake. She never gives us notes unless it's at HER convenience - otherwise it's up to the textbook to teach us. Her instructions on what to do on the discussion boards every week are unclear - avoid this teacher!! I'm failing because of her unclear instructions.
I would not recommend this class just because the teacher doesn't put in any input besides incomprehensible lecture notes and some answers to questions on the discussion board. The test review problems are helpful, but some are not fully relevant to the test. If you are not extremely disciplined and good at self+textbook teaching only DO NOT TAKE!
Some of her additional notes to the class were excellent,Some of the chapters without instructor notes were difficult to get through. Sometimes she was excellent in responding to discussion posts, sometimes she was totally absent. She was unbending on deadlines for us, but incositent (occasionally) on keeping her end up. Often rude (pert) emails.
Rose is very organized, her course is well structured and she prepares you very well for the tests. You absolutely know what to expect - so just do your homework and the sample tests (which are very similar but with different numbers)I usually never write reviews, but I was very impressed, I wish I had her for all my math classes:(
There is no "teaching" here -- just assignments from book on WebAssign. Her "lecture notes" are words about math in different colors on PowerPoint slides. Zero use of technology to teach us how to solve problems. Dumb sports metaphor on BlackBoard site, in which she refers to herself as our "coach." You teach yourself math in this class.
Great Teacher! You need to study hard, but the book s very clear, the weekly homework assignments follow the assigned readings and the lecture notes are incredible! I've printed them out to keep for future reference!
Not much teaching here. The lecture notes don't always follow the textbook, and the textbook is pretty poor. I bought a supplemental book and khan academy helps a lot.
the worst online class never returns tests back to learn from errors shes so hands off except to mark errors you can only work assignments on sat/sun/mo/tues ou learn more from the other students than her
Very friendly instructor, knowledgeable about her topic. I could have done much better in this class, but not her fault. Focus on the topic, though, and you'll be fine - and she'll help you out where necessary.
Would not recommend her the tests are much harder and are not like the hw at all.
The Pre-Calc/Math 141 online course was disappointing. I have taken other Math classes online and felt that this one was unbalanced. The course grade is based on the midterm and final,(cumulative vs incremental tests). Everything else is basically irrelevant. The study guides were bogus and the book examples were completely different from the test.
Took 0nline math 142 with her. She isn't terrible, but was definitely far from the best math teacher I ever had. Almost the whole grade is based on 3 exams, which are very hard, and she grades very badly and without any thought for her students. She wants you to succeed, but makes it extremely hard to get an A
Took online so I didn't have to come every day for class, but wasn't worth it. Her class is very hard and spread across multiple websites (very confusing sometimes) and her tests are basically the only grade you get and they're very, very difficult. Don't recommend her class as I didn't really learn math very well; just got frustrated.
The second time in my life i withdraw from a class. I had to because this instructor wants you to fail in her class. There are three exams which are worth 78% of the course, and they are very hard not like what you see in the home works. plus she adds questions from previous classes like math99. Her lecture notes dont clarify the subject at all.
Absolutely miserable class. Rose is a nice person, but does not teach well, is disorganized and often confusing. Not to mention her class is WAY too hard; the exams are very hard and not like the homework and very frustrating. Do not take her.
SHE IS VERY ORGANIZED, answers all questions promptly, thoroughly and patiently. Lecture material on website is very helpful. It is necessary to take part in the weekly discussion , perform simple homework once a week.A total of 2 midterms and one final exam. Assignments on the tests is absolutely identical to that in study quids.
I did not the like this online course/material at all. This was my second online math class and was not nearly as effective as my previous experience. Also, Ms. Pugh did not check the online board regularly. I ran into a problem when she failed to answer my question before an exam. I got an A but hired a private tutor to help prep for final.
Math is difficult subject to cover in an online format. I would not recommend it to most students. Rose does an excellent job of providing a variety of resources, making herself available, providing feedback and interjecting corrections/tips into student discussions. Her course is very well planned and executed. She is clear and knows her stuff.
Positives: Expectations clear, notes provided easier to understand than textbook. Negatives: No teaching in this class,self-teach using the materials provided. She has her own solving methods you must use not what is in the book. Teacher is not very helpful beyond the website. Final Grading is unfair driven by final(take it on a good week!)
Prof. Pugh does not participate with the students beyond giving instructions, and providing notes. As an online course she expects the students to lead, not the prof, which is counter intuitive. There are no other Professors for PreCal so unfortunetly you will be stuck with her form of teaching, which isn't much. Just do the work and you'll be ok.
I hated this class. She was not helpful at all. Most of the time wouldn't reply to my messages or would reply days later. I don't recommend taking an online class with her. Her directions aren't very clear and she doesn't seem very interested in helping her students actually be successful.
Avoid this instructor. I have taken an online math class before and gotten an A. She does not provide enough video help and you have to teach yourself the math through 17 page lecture notes on each section. Unless you can teach yourself the math from notes, do not take this class.
By far the worst class and worst professor I have taken at Bellevue College. Do not recommend.
Worst Instructor ever. She does not hold an online office hr and has little interaction w/ Students - you can only communicate with her electronically and she takes days to reply. Rose is inflexible and autocratic, she only guarantees Homework to be posted 48 hrs in advance (most instructors allow at least 1 wk). Don't waste your time and Money.
Online math is not for everyone. You have to be disciplined and rely on the resources. Rose is not always available M-TR only so you won't get an answer over the weekend. BUT everyone is required to participate in the discussion. Most questions were answered by peers. You only have 3 days to do your homework. It sucks but plan for it.
MATH 141 online with Rose was a great experience. MyMathLab is required and is great test prep. You're required to make a couple posts on the weekly discussion forum and submit MML homework, but Rose's study guides are outstanding and will more than prepare you for any exam. Really enjoyed the online format and ended up with an A+.
Rose teaches an excellent MATH 142 online class. MyMathLab is required and is great test prep. Weekly homework and minor participation in online discussion groups is required. Rose writes study guides that will prep you very well for every exam. Really enjoyed the online format and ended with an A+ in 141 and another A+ in the follow-up MATH 142.
She teaches the online course really well. People might be scared about taking an online math course, but the student discussion page is really helpful and she gets back to your messages promptly. She says that it's not a self-paced class but you can breeze through or slow it down to your pace (as long as you complete the hw assignments on time)
I have taken a bunch of online courses before, but this one is the worst. Doesn't use the Canvas website very well. Puts links in links instead of using the links on the sidebar, which is more confusing and takes more time to get where you want to go. Hw on mymathlab, weekly discussion, 3 exams.
Her canvas website is very confusing, rather than using it she just posts links to other pages that then link you to other pages and websites. She doesn't use canvas calendar or grading either, which makes it much harder to stay on track. Her lecture notes are also not that great, it's pretty much the book in her own words. Wouldn't recommend her.
I was surprised that there was sooo much reading in this online PreCal class. Participation posts twice a week. A new math section daily with a 15 page supplemental on how she wants problems to be done her way. Very easy Homework on MML. MML quizzes are much harder. MIdterm and final are written on campus. Very high workload.
A high workload, but she gives all the material you need to succeed. If you stay on track with the notes and practice problems, the tests won't be very hard. No surprises as long as you stay on track. Be prepared to read a lot of lecture notes, though.
Taking an online class doesn't mean you just spend little time on it; in contrast, you need spend more time on your work. But if you are always on the track and careful enough, you will find it's easily to get an "A".
The lecture notes Rose provides online are lifesavers! Print them out, read them, do the examples, and use it as a reference while doing the homework. Grading is fair, and points are well distributed between participation, homework, quizzes, and tests. Make sure to do a lot of practice problems! Exams are very similar to the practice exams.
The communication with this teacher is very low. Small amount of assignments, but a TON of reading and studying- expected 3 hours a day of time for a 5 credit class. MyMathLab website sucked too. Would not recommend, especially if you're looking to retain the info rather than just freaking out about passing.
Has very clear expectations for HW and quizzes. Math can be hard to do online, rose makes it easier with clear expectations of what you need to do. If you complete the HW and practice problems Quizzes will be fine. if you complete the study guilds Mid terms and finales are a breeze.
Taking precalc as a refresher since I've already passed calc 1 and 2, but over ten years ago. Was not expecting such brutal questions on quizzes, Rose really pushes your knowledge of material by inserting other concepts that you better know as well. Do a serious half-page of notes for exams. Other than that she grades VERY fairly on exams.
Lacks on communication and organization. It is hard to find anything on the course website, which is nothing like a regular canvas site is laid out. Asking for help is tough too- I understand we should work for ourselves- but student's don't know everything, and some questions can just be answered simply rather than how she handles it over email.
Unless you are a math major do not take calculus online. Hardest class I have ever taken. I worked with a tutor for about 15 hours a week and still only received a B-.
need to participate in discussion, which means make 2 comments every week 2 exams, 8 HW assignment points, 2 online quiz points. need to get an A on the final in order to get an A in the class. lecture notes are provided. no pop quizzes. not really any teaching was involved, need to self-teach yourself math. extra credit given, no group projects
Really not a fan of cumulative finals. I don't really think it's reasonable to ask students to learn thirty completely different subjects and remember them all. Pearson online service sucks hard. Her advice is kind of vague, and overall I think she'd be a good in-person teacher apart from the final, but she's a really detached online presence.
Math 148 online, also took her Math 141 and Math 142 online. The best thing about this professor is that she provides every opportunity for you to succeed in this class, provides great support, clearly states expectations and is very organized. She wants you to do well and provides everything you need to succeed.
Rose truly cares about her students and their success. She is always involved and willing to help in order for you to pass. You definitely need to hold yourself accountable to learn the material or else you won't do well on homework or tests. She has a homework assignment about once a week, and has a lot of opportunities to receive easy points.
Good teacher. Isn't available on campus. Some parts of the class were disorganized, but overall the class was well organized. A lot of work. Easy to fall behind schedule. Participation in online discussions required. Occasional online assignments. A couple online quizzes. Big tests: midterm and finals. Allowed to bring half-sheet of notes to test!
Reasonable prof. Discussion board online is awkward. There are MyMathLab homework/quizzes which are annoying. However, the midterm and final resemble the relevant study guides. A few extra credit opportunities came up. Note: Beginning of course has a mandatory "scavenger hunt" to show you read things like they syllabus and schedule.
She relies on classmates providing forum feedback to questions, not available for help/instruction. She uses a lot of regurgitated dissertations to support work and not very supportive... Read the book, ALL the Labs exercises, videos, & prep!!! Expect to spend HOURS of self study! Mid-term & final study guides are your saving grace!
Her "lectures" are 1-2 pages of notes. final is cumulative. Two quizzes, midterm and final are worth 370 of 510 total points. She will nit pick at the smallest things and will dock you points. I studied 20+ hours a week working with two different tutors that is the only reason I got an A. I literally didn't learn anything from this teacher.
This was an online precalculus 142 class. I am a straight-A premed student. I assumed that if this class was offered online that the prof must video record the lectures so that we can see her do the math. Um, no. No lectures, nothing. I was left to teach myself the subject out of the book. Now I have a "Withdraw" on my transcript. Stay far away.
Took the online PreCalculus II class. She is very detail oriented and most of the class is self-taught out of the book and the online written lectures. As long as you put the time and effort into doing the reading and working through the practice problems you shouldn't have a problem. Take advantage of the MathLab and she responds promptly to email
There's a theme for her online class. She pretends she's a wizard or a musician. If you want to work ahead, you can only work ahead on the lessons not, on the homework. The things that are actually graded. Discussion for participation. Basically, ask questions even if you understand the material for participation points. Ridiculous.
It is clear she loves to teach. It is own responsibility to review her lessons and go over worked out solutions for math problems. Her practice exams were very helpful to mid term and final exams. She is very involved in discussions making sure students are getting their questions answered.
One of the best teachers I ever had. Assignments were straight forward and exams preparation materials were great. Also you could take some of your notes to the exam which was great. I am glad that I didn't listen to all negative comments when I took here class.
Her online interface is horrific and impossible to navigate, nothing is actually attached to canvas but in a weird, useless web app, Expected an unreasonable amount of ungraded work every night. Graded questions were too vague to solve correctly. Textbook was a waste of 400 dollars, gave me a career crisis. Can't work ahead.
It's clear Rose wants to help her students, but she's a terrible online professor. She creates her own interface outside of CANVAS. You are expected to self teach from the textbook, there are no lectures. She does allow notes for exams, and provided very useful study guides, however I ultimately learned from Khan Academy.
Two quizzes and two on-campus proctored exams. Most of the people that left bad reviews didn't try, trust me they will stand out when its discussion time. Weekly discussions for help and to help others. Take advantage of the MyMathLab Study plan and do the study guides and you'll be set for an A.
She has a total of 8 home works, 2 quizzes, 2 exams. Every week, you will need to write 2 discussions to get attendance credit. Her syllabus clearly states that you will have to learn everything yourself. She provides "lecture notes" although they are the exact same as the textbook lesson. Hated her. Only passed because of tutoring help.
she gives 2 projects but they're extremely easy (takes under an hour). she wants you to pass, she gives A LOT of extra credit. stay on top of your work and you will pass
a solid teacher. I took math 141 and 142 online with her. Yes, there are a handful of notes you have to take but they aren't graded so you can do them if you want. there is homework every week and it's pretty easy, you get 2 chances to get the answer right and it is an easy A. a midterm and final and you get a half sheet of paper for help
I do not recommend taking this class through this professor if you have better options. She provides decent feedback during discussion boards that are stupidly mandatory, but everything is very self taught. Self learning materials include pre-typed up notes and reading the textbook. She does not teach at all.
DON'T rely on the study guide for the final. Prepare through the homework material as well as resources online. She said the final would look very similar to the final when it was the complete opposite. Had an A and the final dropped me to a C. The course outline is not hard at all, but the class is HEAVILY based on the final so be ready.
this teacher does not care for her student, my last professor made a video for lecture notes. rose is 2.8 for a reason. DO NOT TAKE HER. all you get graded is homework. the ones you do not do will pop up in you final some of them. the final provided did not help what at all. waste a lot of time on final instead of reviewing homework on MyMathLab.
rose wasn't horrible but if you have any other option, take that one. she's nice and provides some helpful tips about content in the discussion boards, but that's about it. you can't work ahead on homework, either. whatever you do, do NOT rely on the study guide for the final. the final is the reason why my grade went from an A to a C.
Dont take her. Shes bad. Like you thought you were doing well and then got a D on the final bad. Her class is set up so your whole entire grade is basically the final. If you are taking her class, do not pay attention to the final study guide. It has nothing to do with the final. This class was terrible and Id avoid it if you could.
If you are quick with math, take this professor. If you're not great with math like me you won't like: The use of Mcgraw Hill connect for homework, just 3 tries to get the right answer, and a frutrating "help" system built in. Grading based on just a midterm and final worth 50% aswell. She uses honorlock for tests and it breaches privacy.
You must be prepared to teach yourself everything. She offers no lectures or help outside of the textbook. If you're okay with that, the homeworks and exams math the textbook exactly and she offers study guides.
Do not take this professor. She is 10/10 the worst professor I've ever had. Put something on the final that wasn't covered anywhere else, doesn't teach at all and what she does is NOT helpful. Adds nice little twists for the tests. spent 8 hrs 3 times a week sitting down with the work. if you have no other option wait for the next quarter for math
i took the asynchronous class and she seems like a nice lady but she said in the syllabus to be ready to spend 3 hours daily on her class which i did not have to spare hence why i took the async so if you aren't naturally gifted/don't have a lot of time do not take this course
1: Basically the class covered limits, derivatives, anti-derivatives, finding area under curve, marginal cost stuff which is the business part, critical numbers, integration and rate of change. These are the main ones that I remember. Workload is tough, not recommended if you don't have a lot of time. Listen to what others have said!
If you're an independent learner I would take this class. If you're not, definitely do not. A couple tests, HW assignment about every week, and an easy, weekly discussion board. She does not teach at all, so if you often struggle with math, don't take this class. Workload wasn't bad.
I recommend everyone to take another class, she's literally a tough teacher with advanced questions in the exams. She always gave out the study guide but it's different from the exams. Every week, I spent many hours on this class, her lectures didn't work for preparing for the exam. In her class, there will be 4 assignments for each exam.
Assignments were class discussions and weekly homework, easy to get maximum points on them. However, the main determinant of your grade are ONLY two exams (midterm and final). You have to be an independent learner and there are NO lectures to help you, I cannot stress those points enough. I only recommend this class if it is your very last option.
DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER!! She is unorganized and doesn't care about her student's passing. You have to teach yourself everything. Even anything she "explains" is written confusingly and randomly. She's hard to reach by email. No extra credit to raise your grade either. She literally gets paid just to sit and occasionally (midterms/final) grade.
I knew going into it that an online math class was going to be difficult, but I didn't know it was going to be this difficult. You need to put in a lot of work, and will need outside help. Midterm and final weighted so heavy, it tanked my grade. I took this class with her as a retake and did worse than before.
Professor Pugh is very responsive and supportive. Her lecture notes are easy to understand. She sets very clear and logic grading criteria. I would love to take her again.
One word. RUN.
I took this class online but it didnt work well for me. her notes are not that useful but i took this class to satisfy business pre requiste but if you are someone who needs proper guidance please dont take this class because it is like read maths type of thing no work checking no communication nothing.
Do not take, not worth your time. She does not teach the class, she uses a software. Test heavy and thats pretty much your only grade in the class. If you want to study business clac at BC just don't the teaches are awful and are not there to help you and just turn you over to the math lab. Take math at a different school.
She does not teach the class, she has her notes posted on canvas and wants you to do the HW with those notes and by reading the chapter. She does not provide any videos, only videos are the ones where the online homework that is graded on. Also your final determines if you get a (+) or a (-) on your overall grade in the class.
