Very moody, but still and excellent educator!
Tough but fair, native French speaker
She's tough but really helpful and friendly ... i recommend her to who is serious about the subject only. by the way, she is a good friend too.
She is a good teacher but very moody
She got issues! she is hard and she is moody!
She was hard but hott as.......damn she was hott. With that french accent umm! i want some of that
Moody; if she doesn't like you, she'll give you a hard time and bad grade for the semester. Good teaching technique. Her grading system is excellent; you can still pass even if your tests are bad.
She's got a great sense of humor and loves to entertain while teaching. She is the best foriegn language teacher I've ever had. But, she's very serious about the French culture, so don't talk bad about the FRENCH!
Shes nice. But a horrible teacher, she is rude and moody.
Pay attention in class..this is your best learning resource. She is rude/moody when people make mistakes in French. If possible see the tutor Marie-France
this teacher is someone who you should not consider taking if your arab and you want an easy A. she tell you the first day of class if you know arabic already that you should leave the class cause it is only for people who are there to learn. oh yea and she thinks shes french lol.
this woman is crazy! I got an A, but she is really really moody. Shes from lebanon/egypt but swears shes french. plays favorites, she thought i was a native arabic teacher and gave me a very hard time, dont take her
she is ****ing sucks, don't even try to take her class, she set the class of fire, she is sorry
She is best of the best. I reconended for the people who want to learn....the egyptian guy
sheis freaking sucks, not a good teacher!!!
Oh man, she can be sooo annoying because of her moodiness. One minute she's making jokes and before you know it she's yelling at us even though all we're doing is sitting there and listening to her!!! Tends to make people feel stupid, but also does her best to make class interesting (songs & games).
Truly she is moody, but most people dont like her cuz she is not easy, but the truth is she is a great teacher and she is very nice. If you respect her she will respect you more. I recomend her to people who really want to learn. Other than that good luck she will be on your case if you wana be smart with her.

I took her TWICE, but it was still a cool class. I love the Arabic culture and the language so I really didn't mind her moodiness, but I warn you if you don't want to get yelled at; DO NOT ASK HER ANY QUESTIONS, KNOW THE ANSWERS TO THE QUESTIONS SHE ASKS YOU and you will do just fine.
She is a great teacher with a lot of zeal. She makes class fun, and at times she lets loose herself. She is moody at times, but I think it has more to do with cultural differences. I will deffinitely take her again, and I recommend her. She is very sweet outside of the classroom setting, and helpful. Whatever one wants from a class one will get.
She is incredibly moody as people say; it's like Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Anyway, I think the class could be a lot more fun and her requirements are more anal than helpful, but she had her good mooments.
She is incredibly rude, and mean! She is strict, but crosses the lines and can be outright abusive. She is punitive and irrational most of the time. Yes she does have her good moments, but let me tell you, the sheer anger she exudes overall--eradicates any of her good qualities. Like her one minute, and remember the next minute why you don't. Bad!
She seemed like a really sweet lady when the class began. However, she soon began treating us as if we were misbehaving little children. She would often attempt to embarass individuals in the class, and would become incredibly angry when she caught her students yawning. I mean, come on! The class was boring, so we yawned.
She is a cool lady and pretty darn cute to boot. She cares about the success of her students, and therefore can seem to be demanding. There are not very many professor's that care like she does. Be prepared to really study, or you will not do well. When she says it will take 15 hours a week...it will! Seems more mellow than what others have wrote.
I like her a lot. she is very helpful and makes the class enjoyable and she preally pushes you to do better.
Rosemary Sarkis is so mean and spiteful. If you ask her a question during class she'll say, "Ask me after class!" then as soon as class ends she'll rush out the door yelling, "NO QUESTIONS! CLASS IS FINISHED!" Her English is pretty poor so her instructions can be pretty incoherent. She has, however, mastered the art of the "withering look".
Rosemarie is a great professor, but her teaching style is different. She is very willing to help and her class is very fun. It is a hard class, but you get a lot out of it. This class isn't for everyone. You either love her or hate her. I loved taking French with Rosemarie. I got a B and learned a lot.
Not as mean as I thought she would be. She liked to laugh and have fun, but she tends to be rigid and conservative. She is just someone who is set in her ways. I thought the class material was really easy. It is all out of the textbook and the tests only cover a small portion of what we learn. I am taking her for French 2.
Basically a continuation of French 1. We used the same textbook. She has lightened up a lot over the time I have known her. She is very nice but tends to go over things quickly when you have a question. She does give a lot of homework. Tests are from the publisher. Well, here I am taking her for French 3.
Really nice, friendly. Wants students to succeed. As Nothing good comes easy, she really make u work hard for ur grades. An excellent person in and outside class. I highly recommend her, If u really want to learn. If u want an easy way, I suggest u take someone else cos u aint having it with her. Extremely helpful, toughtful, and fun. Like her a lot
She is like the french audrey hepburn! she comes to class singing and smiling EVERY DAY. The sweetest prof on EARTH! However, the class is REALLY HARD. Tons of howework n quizzes. She's expecting u to work 'cuz she REALLY DOES, and she's ALWAYS willing to help, xtra credit, office hours etc. Do not blame on her, make like a tree and STUDY!
She's annoying and way too outspoken about her religious and political views, which is inappropriate and has no place in a French class. There's tons of homework which, while easy, is very time-consuming. And she actually grades you down if you don't go the lab every week (like if you go 3hr. one week and skip the next 3), which is pretty unfair.
Good teacher tries hard to help and passionate about her views, which is hard to come by anymore; good teacher, and good person.
She is a Great Teacher! If you want to LEARN French ? take her. If you are looking for an EASY CLASS ? find someone else.
I fully endorse the comment previous to mine. She was nice at first, but cares more about her vacation than her job. Cannot communicate civilly to save her life. Dropped a metric ton of information on us the day before our final (impossible to understand by myself). B will turn into a D if I don't pass the final exam. In what world is that okay?
NEVER take a class with this disrespectful, completely unthorough professor. She hates explaining things & speaks to students in a condescending, indignant tone. A few of my classmates & I have 4.0 GPAs which will now be adversely affected because of this class!Great right?!? Ive been to France & loved French...now, not so much. DONT TAKE SARKIS!
It is a tough class. She is moody and if you ask questions in the lab she is rude and unhelpful most of the time. Be prepare to work hard and put up with her condescending comments.
This was the longest six weeks of my life. I cannot recommend Professor Sarkis in good conscience. I am a very good student and this class was the most time consuming and unrewarding class I have ever taken. If you want to take a class where you cannot get answers to questions and the answers you get don't make sense, then by all means sign up!
It appears as if teaching is a burden to her.
Have to work had to pass the class. Do not hope for an easy ride. She will be a great professor to you if you are willing to learn and work hard at it.
This class was very stressful. She doesn't really help much at all, so be good at French before you sign up for her class.
She was a pretty good teacher but she seemed to get angry a lot. Make sure you keep up with her and all her hw if you take the hybrid class. I had so much hw but its not too bad once you get used to it. Overall she was a good teacher and I ended up with a B in her class.
the worst teacher I ever have, she makes you to learn things just to waist time, she promes a particular section will be on the exam, but the section she mentions is just worth like half point and she put a lot of other stuff you will have not clue it will be there, I hate going to class because of her atitude, she is not good by any means.
I was the worst experience I have in my untire college life, this was my last semester before transfering, and I can tell you she is got some serious issues, if she finds out that you have taken advanced classes she will do whatever it takes to bring you down. Do not take any class with her at all.
She truly is really bad at her job. She is very prideful and has no patience better take this class with someone else, she will yell in class and make u uncomfortable. all these comments are true so take notes.
She is really unhelpful and mean when you are in the lab. She will yell at you for having questions when that is precisely the reason why you are taking the class. She always keeps teaching way past her class time. Beware if you try to leave once class is supposed to be over.. she will be really pissed!!! Well she always seemed to be angry anyways
She knows the language but she goes over the same points excessively (like she has a ceiling on the level of French she can actually teach). She makes you do a lot of busy-work (like geography and some culture stuff that even genuine french people don't know or care about) and this work counts as a high portion of the grade, pretty ridiculous.
I think outside of class she could possibly be a nice person. Although as a teacher she is unqualified. She never graded papers on time, we didn't even know our grade until the end of the semester. When you ask her questions, she will make a snarky comment about how you should know the answer. Unwilling to help students.I used 2 love french till now
She's very unorganized impatient. She'd often introduce new material during the last ten minutes of class, then we'd review that material next class and she'd expect us to have mastered it. Very haughty, condescending, and outspoken about her religious views. She comes off as nice and fun, but she's a horrid teacher. I wish Nadeau taught French 2.
Rosemarie is one of the strictest teachers I've ever had. And she's the best teacher I've ever had. You WILL learn in her class, and you WILL do well. She is impatient with idiots and slackers, but treats those who do well, well. Are you serious about learning French? Take her class.
She may know about french language but as a teacher she is terrible to say the least. If you ask her a question, she makes you feel stupid and makes an example out of you for asking the question. She is moody and abusive, threatening the class to lower the grades as she pleases. She will never be the teacher of great students.
She is a decent professor but she can be mean in class (even if you personally did all your homework) She yelled at my class every day because some people didn't do the homework. She is unorganized: we only went over half of the homework she assigned and she never gets tests back on time. The labs are impossible. Attendance and book are mandatory.
worst teacher ever. she yells at the class for anything, & she picks favorites. if you are having a hard time in the class, she yells at students in front of the class. if you need to take french take another teacher, or if they're full, wait until the next semester to take it with another professor.
Shes is okay teacher but she is seriously impatient with her students. I had to bite my tongue a few times because I was getting tired of her expecting me to know these things. Yes I study but she has to realize that not everybody gets it at the same time...Literally most of the students are afraid to ask her anything!
Excellent teacher, very friendly and funny! I took with her Fre-1 in fall 2011. I got A+. She is the best teacher I ever had. I highly recommend her. Do your homework and lab on time and you will have an A in her class.
This is one of the best professors I've ever had. She's energetic, reasonable, flexible. She also has a great sense of humor and she made the lecture become lively and intriguing all the time. Last but not least, with great understanding, she is super generous in giving extra points and chances to earn more extra points. So stand up for your chance.
AMAZING!! She is so adorable & has a nice sense of humor! She can be a little edgy but it really is for your own good, she wants the class to feel the same passion for the french language as she does. And have a good understanding of it as well. The lectures are very interactive and she makes every activity a group thing. If you love French, take it
Great French professor, just do the work and you'll be fine.
she is very picky on grading assignments and accent marks.
Shes the only french teacher, if u dont understand something and ask a ? she'll most likely put u on the spot. Shes an okay teacher. Just do all the work. ON TIME. She gives extra credit, if she likes the class.
I loved her! I took her French 1 class and learned so much from her. Yes, she is a bit temperamental and very strict but the point is that you learn. If I could give any advice is stay on track and do ALL of your work regardless of the quantity--There is a lot. If you keep up with your homework, reading, and labs you will breeze right by.
If you do all your homework and come to class everyday you will be fine. This teacher is tough but she will work with you and makes sure you understand it. She dropped the lowest test grade for everyone in my class and the lowest lab grade. If you are really interested in learning french def take this class.
She a chill teacher. She got mad at our class a lot because we wouldn't be prepared and study our vocab. But other than that you should do fine if you are motivated. It is a Hybrid class so do expect a lot of Hw.
excellent teacher
GREAT TEACHER! she is a little hard, but then again you do learn a lot of french. just do all your work and study for tests and you WILL PASS plus you will be able to understand the french language after that class
Brilliant teacher. Expects a lot from her students. So, do your lab, centro, online work, and you will get an A. Don't miss any of these assignments since they are worth much. She is very cute, even when she raises her voice! Love her!
She is amazing!! Like everyone else already said, you will actually learn in this class! Learning any language can be difficult but she is very helpful and overall an amazing teacher!
She is very helpful in class and during lab hours. the only way to pass is to do the hmwk, lab, pass quizzes (similar to online hwmk), and take the time to study the vocab./grammar. she gives extra credit if you participate and it will go toward your quizzes and midterm. she will get mad if you aren't prepared for class.
She is really nice. Is willing to help if asked. Do all the work, labs and everything. Get signatures they are worth points. She will get upset at you if you forget your book. She can sometime call you out in lab and if you are getting a low grade she will tell you to study. Some stuff she tells you study is not on the quizzes.
If you do your work, this class should be very easy. French is not the most difficult language in the world; it just takes practice. She is helpful in class and tries to get you to learn it better, just participate and it'll make sense. She can come off as a bit bi-polar. Must be a personality trait. Other than that she is very nice and helpful.
I wanna start off by saying that a lot of the students complained about her. She brought this issue up during one of her lectures & asked the class to tell her what she could do better. I told her, IN FRENCH, that she could be more patient. I feel she held that against me in the end, bcuz she gave me a D. Mind u, I did everything she told us to!!!!
She is a great professor! However, there is a lot of material to cover and you have to teach yourself some material if you want to stay on top. Grading is rigid, but an A is possible if you work for it. Participation in class is a must in this course and if you have trouble with public speaking or volunteering to speak, you may want to reconsider.
She was a good teacher. But you need a lot of time and commitment to get a good grade. An hour of lab every week, which was horrible, most of the time I didn't understand what to do! Lots of homework. Orals, she'll ask you something in French and if you don't get what she's saying she gets MAD. Take it if you have the patience.
Best teacher I've had at RCC. Really helps out a lot it's a pretty to the point course If you pay attention and go to class, lab 1 hour a week difficult but do able. Gives you the answers to quizzes before quiz since it's just the online homework. Absolutely love her, very interesting and very up beat. I definitely recommend her class.
One of the best teachers I have ever had! definitely makes you work for your grade but does the best of her abilities to help you achieve that. Amazing lectures, very funny, keeps you interested. Very hands on in her teaching style. I would recommend Mademoiselle Sarkis to anyone interested in taking french.
Took her for French 1 and she was wonderful, I've read a lot of reviews saying she can be mean but who wouldn't be if you are prepared or even care. Funny teacher, very helpful and even lets you turn in homework late, easy test everything is homework. Just wish we practiced the actual speaking more.
Subpar to say the least. she piles lessons and expects 14 hours a week out of the book. Now you might say "oh anon, that ain't much!" Quite frankly it isn't, but when she is rushing ahead like we have some super tight deadline, it's just becomes this asinine mess, quite frankly she is so concerned with getting through she let's people fall behind.
Taking her class was fine in the beginning but it became unbearable! There's lots of class activities. She wasn't patient with us & can be condescending. If you studied heavily & knew 90% of the material, she would get mad because of the 10% you didn't know. At the end there was about 6 people left out of 30/40ish. She rushes the materials too.
Professor Sarkis is a real gem to say the least. Her teaching style is fun and informative, but be prepared to read and study outside of class (especially if you take her 8 week class like I did). The text book is mandatory, buy it ASAP! If you are not up to date on the reading she will call you out for not knowing the material assigned!
It is hard for you to get a good grade in her class. If YOU HAVE ANY OTHER LANGUAGE Class can choose, don't choose him, you will regret it. She is very strict, you will feel very tired.
Great teacher. The workload is somewhat heavy, but the exercises have a purpose and help you understand the concepts really well, if you're willing to put in the time. She places a lot of emphasis on writing and forces you to participate in class, so always come prepared. In general, she's very nice and charming and makes the class really fun.
Let me start this off by saying she is a wonderful, caring professor. She's quite funny as well. However, she uses an online only textbook that she wrote and majority of it is scrambled or, sometimes, unusable. If you take her class, make sure you're very serious about learning French otherwise you WILL NOT pass. Do your labs. Ask questions.
I love Professor Sarkis, I took her years ago in 2014 and I still remember what I learned from that class. She makes you work for it, no doubt about it but she really wants her students to learn. The lab was lengthy and it takes time but you have to get it done. Show up everyday and participate! You will be reading in French sooner than later!
A very caring teacher! She really wants students to learn better and gives a lot of extra credits. I chose an 8-week class and was not so stressful. However, students need to buy an online book and do preview in advance. Be careful, few students got As in the class I was in.
Didn't speak a lick of French going into her accelerated 8 week class. Forgot most of what I learned after I passed the class, but I still know more than I did going in. The lectures were kind of hard to follow, because instruction was given in French not English. Do the homework to study before quizzes, and try to memorize vocabulary.
Took 1 &2. I like her & the class but her methods can be frustrating. The online book has so many mistakes & she gets irritated if you bring it up. Yes you do learn a lot but also there is a lot missing from her instruction. It is more about structure not enough depth. Her tests are confusing in what she is asking you to do. Teaches 123 & tests xyz
Extremely nice and kind but VERY disorganized and gets carried away too easily. She can be really condescending when she's stressed out with things that aren't related to the class itself. Unfortunately, she had the habit of jamming a bunch of material before the quizzes and would test you on it. A LOT of homework (from online textbook).
she is funny and nice but if you want to pass this class you have to read .She is difficult in grading as well .I feel like she focus more on the people who have taken french in high school and does not give time to people who are learning french . TBH you can not learn french in 6 weeks which she expects you too.
I took her class for fall. She is really nice and funny but she does get side tracked sometimes. She expects you to memorize literally everything and will get upset if you do not come to class prepared. She lags on grading and gives quizzes around every 2 weeks. Theres also A LOT of homework (including lab hours)! She does not teach too well.
Madame Sarkis is the sweetest French teacher I've met. She is caring and wants you to pass. Homework is a little excessive regarding the amount but not hard; if you're organized you can do it no problem. Quizzes are not hard and sometimes she allows for group quizzes. Participation gets you points which you can use on the final. Overall, good prof.
Horrible teacher. Took both French 1 and 2 with her, but her French 2 class was downright awful. Book is full of errors that she refuses to correct. Got very mad when you asked her about grading assignments, and crammed in an enormous amount of new material a day before the final exam, and none of it was on the final. Do not take this teacher!
A textbook heavy class. I get that it is a hybrid, but she depends way too much on the textbook to teach the class. There are chapters that are confusing so, in the lecture, you will struggle to understand, and if you ask her, she assumes that you did not read the book or study enough. Very ill-tempered and opinionated. Her class is a disgrace.
I took four years of French in HS. My HS French teacher was 10x more difficult than Ms. Sarkis. I took her French 1 class online, and I'll admit, it was easy. Just read your textbook, do your homework, and show up to a lecture or two for tests. Approach her respectfully about mistakes in the book, and send her screen shots of the problem.
Horrible professor. Not many good teaching skills. Shes is impatient and condescending. She starts with 20+ students and ends with about 5 students. Shes clearly not a good teacher. She doesnt take accountability for her mistakes and has a short-temper. Expects you to memorize everything. Rushes through material. Dont waste your time with her!
Do not take her. She is the rudest professor I've ever had. It is her way or no way. She likes to ashamed you in front of the class. At one point she said she can be mean if she wants to. I was shocked. Lots of homework and forced you to buy her book or you are dropped. Book has so many mistakes and she refused to correct them. Sad RCC on has her.
Great professor, but there are improvement areas. First, you MUST buy the book, since it is those platforms where you have the content and the HW. There are quizzes right after finishing 3-4 lessons and it is important to memorize the vocabulary. The labs are lengthy but ok, i took around 30-50 minutes each. If you really want to learn French, go:)
