Yawn... She is REALLY boring, and the class is pretty pointless and LONG!
boring professor
No Comments
Harsh grader.
Very boring, grades too harshly, wants too much work done for simple assignments
No Comments
it's frustrating when you know the best you can possibly get is a B+ in there.
Kind of nice, but really boring. Has a lot of trouble relating to students. She is VERY intelligent and has a lot to share, just has difficulty knowing how and when to do that.

She isn't the easiest professor there is, but you do get alot out of her classes. She is a great professor and a nice helpful British woman.
Always willing to help, but the assignments are never exactly clear. Somehow, none of us in the class realized we were doing something wrong until right before a paper was due. Make sure you ask her to clarify anything that is confusing to you right away.
Was horrible for Global. No clear goals or direction the class was going in. She would lecture and lecture, so BORING! The highlight of the class was Model UN, which every Global class did, anyway.
Not very personable and seemed annoyed by students. Made Elon 101 harder than it should have been. Very bland and tiring, but cool accent.
knows her stuff....dresses like someone from the 18th century, needs some new outfits...very easy to talk to and helpful...somewhat hard grader on papers...u can get by without doing the homework readings they are a snoooooze
she's very rude and not helpful to the understanding the student's situations at all. do not take her if you think you want to have a good relationship with a teacher.
no...just, no
RUN AWAY!
May not be very exciting, but she's a good teacher who helps make you comfortable about speaking in class and has a pretty good approach to a boring subject.
Very helpful if you go in to talk to her during her office hours. She's so nice!
May not be super exciting, but I feel like I learned a lot and became much more interested in the subject after the class was over - she is very nice though
not very organized or clear... if you are motivated and do assigned work when you know she wont collect it, you will be fine.. if you are lazy it will catch up with you.. fo shizzle
don't take it. she's hard
You do have to write a lot of papers, but if you are decent at writing, you will do fine in the class. There are many opportunities to raise your grade.
Got the Brit accent going on and I LIKEY. Her classes might seem boring to those not interested in the subject, but if u are, she's very thorough and enjoys opinions and class discussions. If u know how to write, you will pass with flying colors.
Such a BS class - if you are okay at writing and don't mind boring lecture take it for an easy B at least. She is nice, today during college coffee she asked me if i was goign to "queue up for my bananary". Take it if you don't mind being zoned out once every 3 classes.
EXTREMELY boring but really nice. Tough grader on papers but even if you're a bad writer you could probably manage a B in the class.
Tough grader! She's very specific with what she wants and very picky when grading papers. She's a sweet old English lady that likes class discussion. She expects a lot out of students in upper level courses, so be prepared to read and write ALL semester. You better like the subject or you'll hate the class.
She is the thoughest grader I have ever had. Do not expect the easy A in here, because it will most likely look like a D. Lot of writing and reading, and she demands everything out of you.
Stay away from this professor. She's got a brithish accent along with an ancient wardrobe and she's prepared to use them!! This class was awful, she is not cooperative at all if you have any concerns. You have to do alot of writing, the in class writing isn't bad but the research papers blow! If you are a good writer, this class is perfect!
Just look at her picture, she is a very hard grader and very inconsistent, get out while you can.
She doesn't make clear of what to expect and her grading is very inconsistent. It is nearly impossible to get anything higher than a B. The only good part of the class is knowing that it can't last forever. Please, do not take her class learn from my mistakes. I say that with the utmost sincerity.
THE WORST GLOBAL CLASS TO TAKE AVAILABLE AT ELON. Will not give higher than a C on papers, and yes she teaches like you are majoring in global when really it is just a required FRESHMAN credit. My friends laughed at me when they heard i actually had a final, which took all 3 hours by the way. GET OUT WHILE YOU CAN...ALIVE!
very nice teacher, always willin to help, great class mostly discussion, very easy to get good grade, would take again happily, great british accent, just love the class!
Although attendance is 'mandatory' she gives 5 absences a semester with no questions asked. She also requires 1/2 of a rough draft, then a rough draft, then a rough draft with 'significant revision', and lastly a final draft, all spaced out with a week in between which helped everyone to not leave papers to the last minute.
this professor is HORRIBLE. not only is she rude and unpleasant, but she is a very inconsistent grader. Research papers all the time. i had her for Global- a REQUIRED FRESHMAN CREDIT, and dreaded going into her class. DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS.
If you enjoy a hard class with hard grading then this is the class for you. Very hard research papers and a very hard midterm and final. She leads decent discussions in class, however, the discussions are not worth the hard grading.

Dr. Haskell is very friendly as a person. The class is not one you should take with her. Grades are arbitrary. Class discussions are weak. You can't even tell when she read the texts. When she reviews essays, feedback is mixed and the final grade does not correspond to how she felt about your rough draft. Not a good Southern Lit Professor.
Yes, she teaches Global like it's serious. Yes, the final takes all 3 hours. Yes, people will find her grading of papers very harsh - she's an English professor, what do you expect? Your grade will reflect how much time/effort you put into the work, so do what you can and then go to the Writing Center or something. This class is not impossible.
Did not really enjoy Haskell's Global class very much at all. The lectures were very boring and the class simply dreadful to attend sometimes. Haskell is a very difficult grader and the class is very much writing intensive, so beware of that. Her dry humor and British accent are the only things I really liked about the class.
Jane Austen lit class was exactly what I had hoped! It's a lot of reading so make sure you like Austen. She obviously loves Austen and makes it fun. Great conversations with easy in class writings. Papers aren't too bad, you can pick your own topic for the long one. Hard grader but she is always available to help before you turn it in. Loved her!
Haskell is an extremely hard grader. Her papers are always 1600+ words, and usually due within a week or two. Most of class time is spent peer editing, and the 5 papers you write during the term make your grade. nice enough person, boring class.
I've had three classes with her now, British Literature II, Jane Austen and Classical Literature, and she is one of my favorite professors. Yes, the classes and papers can be difficult but she is willing to help anyway she can. She's a bit eccentric but it makes her interesting and you can tell that she loves the subject she is teaching.
She is a hard grader and gives 5 papers of 1600+ word count. but she always is very clear in her expectations and is more than willing to make time for students after class. she gives plenty of time to write her papers and will spend about 3 classes peer editing them. good teacher
She was a great professor, really knows her stuff and explains it very well. She is extremely helpful if you go to her office hours and is willing to work with you. Somewhat of a hard grader but you'll be fine if you do the work. and we are in college so that shouldn't be a problem.
So funny! She really knows what she's talking about and class was always engaging. The papers looked hard but ended up being okay!
Best and most beloved teacher I ever had at Elon.
She's a great teacher who knows what she's talking about and has a passion for what she teaches. If you need help, she will try and work with you.
Haskell is an extremely tough grader. Not always clear about what she wants and her paper topics are extremely broad. I really liked the class, but the vast amount of readings assigned seemed tedious and our discussions didn't always include them. It's tough, but you'll get a lot out of it
Hardest teacher I've ever had. Ridiculous grader, longest assignment ever, impossible to pay attention in class. She talks non-stop and is rude when answering questions. I usually love Brit Lit and I ended up with a D because this class was impossible.
Haskell is a great teacher who has true in-depth knowledge of subject matter in her courses. Some people can't tolerate that fact that her classes are all lecture with significant discussion, but I enjoyed it. She assigns a boat-load of reading out of the expensive textbooks, but I did pretty fine without buying the books rarely reading.
The class is extremely difficult.
Professor Haskell taught me insane amounts about writing, but the course was a lot of work. I constantly was in the library and her office. She rarely gives As on papers, but will on grammar corrections. If you are taking her class: be ready to learn lots and work hard.
She's really nice, definitely a very smart person. She has super helpful and important writing tips. We wrote 5 papers throughout the semester, usually 2600 words except the final paper which was 3600 words with a partner. Getting an A on a paper is hard. No tests though!
get ready to buy expensive textbooks and to read them. her class is full of writing and has 5 papers so get used to long hours in the library. it feels like a high school class because her assignments are very specific, however she is biased when grading. she is nice but not always. she will definitely make her students good writers.
lots of papers. super strict
Good effort is important in this class. Professor Haskell is nice and reasonable but expects her students to participate and put forth effort. Her papers are challenging but not impossible and are on somewhat of interesting topics. She also offers 5 free skip days and the reading isn't usually necessary to do. Overall: Solid professor and class
I came into college writing at like a 8th grade level. Shes a hard teacher, but your gonna become a good writer if you pay attention. I'm a comp sci. major, so I don't care much, but I am glad I took the class.
Awful teacher, pointless class, and I came out at the end of the semester with zero things learned. Surprised Elon doesnt give the opportunity for STEM majors to place out of this huge waste of time without AP credits, which my high school didn't offer. Never taking her again.
She is a very bright women and has the skills set of an amazing writer. I warn you though, STAY AWAY. Do NOT take her class. We had a sub for one class and she was so much better than Haskel had been then entire semester.
Haskell is the biggest sweetheart, you really just have to show that you care about the class. She is always open to help and knows a lot about what she teaches. Although I'm not ending with an A, I really liked her class and would recommend it to anyone who wants to take a literature class. Need to buy/rent books for class.
This class was difficult, and she makes you work for your grade. However, I learned a lot from her class, she's very intelligent and is willing to help. She really prepared me for all the other papers I would have to write in the future. The class can be a pain, but it's worth It in the long run. It's possible to do well in this class.
She means well and is a great person but her assignments make no sense and shes a very nit picky grader. I worked hard for a C many times and she rarely responds to emails in a timely manner. She is very approachable but often her feedback is confusing.
Very rude about missing classes, no matter what even if you are sick or have an appoitnment it is not excused and after 5 misses you will lose a lot of final grade points. Very pointless work and class being mandatory is such a bore. Def would never ever take this again, made me hate elon.
Horrendous
I loved having Haskell. Yes she expects a lot and holds you to your standards. But I learned a lot from being in her class and started to enhance my writing skills by her feedback and wanting to impress her. Having Haskell paid off in the end cause I beleive I am a better writer now.
She is such a hard grader nothing pleases her. I hated the class and it was miserable to attend. Ton of homework and essays every week.
I really want to love Professor Haskell, I really do! But god has this class been insufferable. Had I taken this class over a normal semester, maybe it would have been fine, but cramming everything into jterm has been a nightmare. The 150+ pages a night plus her really tough grading makes getting an A nearly impossible.
Professor Haskell is very nice and pushes you to do your best. You will constantly be doing work for the class, and she is a tough grader, but if you keep up and do the work you are able to do well. If you're ready to do a lot of work and want to learn, this class is for you, otherwise I would look to other classes.
Dr. Haskell is a harsh grader, but she gives a lot of helpful and specific feedback which can be used to improve your writing ability. Work hard on the rough drafts, because then you have to edit less in the final draft and you can make sure your idea matched the topic. Also beware of partner essay where you will do all the work!
Whatever you do, make sure you do not get in a class with this professor. Although she want you to learn and her course is very informative, her grading is absolutely ridiculous as far as difficulty and there is constant busy work and assignment. I should not feel swamped by a mandatory core class and Haskell has ZERO grasp of that. Stay far away!
She floods you with work. If you have a social life get ready to throw a lot of days away. She is not easy on grading either. She will rip apart a good paper.
Each Absent day above a 5 means 1/2 a letter grade taken off, no matter what. Treats a 1000 level class like a 4000 level class. Gives poor instructions, grades very strict, hasn't responded to any emails, gives insane amounts of work. DO NOT TAKE!
I scored a B on a paper, so for my next paper, I worked harder, had it peer reviewed, and took it to the writing center, only for it to get a lower grade. She also said my grade in front of the whole class when handing it to me, which personally doesn't bother me, but I know would bother others. Grades improved after talking with her 1-on-1 though.
Loved British Literature with Dr. Haskell. She is very very intelligent and taught the subject in a fun way. Very accesible for office hours, she gave great feedback that helped my essays. You do not need to buy the textbooks, the material is old enough that it is all public domain and online. She has a great sense of humor as well.
This professor did not post the grades on Moodle ever and when having group work problems, she did not offer help or do anything about it.
Honestly I really enjoyed Professor Haskell. I took her lit class over J-term so it was pretty face paced. Reading the reviews here had me scared, but it wasn't bad at all. Classes are lecture/discussion based. She never outwardly judged student's answers and was open to different points of view. She doesn't put grades in but she hands stuff back.
Professor changed syllabus last minute and did not follow updated syllabus. Very lecture heavy and group projects. Took the class over J-term and was flooded with work which was somewhat manageable but the professor was strict on using paper for in class writings only. Also, was not very helpful during office hours. Do not miss class, very strict.
As someone who is passionate about lit and English, she made it the most boring class to sit through. I didn't absorb any of the material, and she assigned hefty, dense books with not nearly enough time.
Absolutely love her, she's a genius, but omg so so tough
Assumed all students had the same or similar level of knowledge on all of Austen's life/her novels. Three intense papers with little to no feedback. In class writings often, had intense amounts of reading to do (you read 7 novels in the span of the semester, written in old english). Don't take unless you know Austen and have plenty of time to read
Very nice lady but she expected too much from the students in the class. Reading HEAVY! You'll be reading all of Jane Austen's books and having to do heavy papers. Grading structure did not make sense. If you skip a certain amount of classes your grade would go down a whole letter grade
Class is far too hard when compared to literally any other english class that is needed for this requirement. Unless you are a god at reading and can knock out a 4200 word essay with little effort this class will embarrass yourself when compared to your other grades by the end of the semester. Do not take no reason to do so unless you're a sadist.
Super harsh grader with unrealistic expectations. Expects expert-level essays. Peer reviews mean nothing because she still grades extremely low. Never posts grades, so you're stressed all semester. This class killed my love for the subject and is why I am no longer pursuing a minor in the subject.
