Nice lady, a little disorganized but overall a good class. I suggest printing out notes from the web before attending class so you can make your own notes too. She can be a little unclear on some topics sometimes...watch out for her cross multiplication!

Nice lady but she is very unclear and does not give proper instructions for assignments and then dings you on them. She cannot focus on what is important so study time is doubled if yu want a good mark. If you want to enjoy biology do not take her!!
Super nice and rather funny. Make sure you know what she's talking about before you let her move on or you'll be LOST. She is really into her website, but make sure you clarify what the notes mean-- they're a little vague. Study hard and you'll do well

Notes are definitely too vague. Good lecturer and demonstrates a sincere concern for student's understanding. Tests are very difficult, though - alot of memorization.
Very disorganized, relys WAY TOO MUCH on her website and notes that are way too vague to understand. She sooo plays Faves. and definately don't get on her bad side...as she says she is a Biologist, but in my opinion not a great teacher!
ROSEMARY IS A NICE AND FUNNY WOMEN HOWEVER SHE IS A BIT CRAZY AND HER NOTES OFF THE WEB ARE UNCLEAR. THE EXAMS ARE SOMETIMES UNCLEAR AS WELL. i WOULD GIVE HER 5/10
Rosemary is an awsome teacher, these comments must be from slackers straight out of high school. This is college, if you want a good mark you have to work for it because she is definetly not going to spoon feed you. The notes are vague but you should be lucky to get any at all. A++ instructor
Fabulous lady; really puts out an effort to get to know her students (our class started to seem very close over the months of working together in the labs). Make sure you study her notes; I didn't use my ecology text once...only her notes. Be prepared...the stats go me a bit....it can be tricky!
A horrible, disorganized useless teacher. She constantly contradicts herself and often more than not doesn't know what she's talking about. The notes are cluttered, she does play favorites and yes don't get on her badside. It can mean a letter grade
Rosemary is the sweetest teacher at the school. She really cares about her students. Her lectures are disorganized and confusing but the tests are easy if you pay attention. Very understanding, a great person, but not the greatest teacher.

Rosemary Mason is a very good teacher. She takes the time to get to know students and her labs are very relaxed and "go at your own pace style." The tests are fair but you do need to work hard and really learn the material to get a good mark. She's really awesome!!

Rosemary is a tragedy that has plagued the college. Other ratings have people praising her for what she does for the students. Sure she CAN be nice, but wtf what good is that to me when I need good grades. Anyone who has a review coplimenting Rosemary is obviously the class pet and I am embarrased for them.
Rosemary is a failure at life. The recent midterm she gave had a class average of 38 and 28 between her two classes. There is suposedly a problem with us students. It has nothing to do with her. The text book is useful as reading it is less boring then her power point. Dont take this class! She is nice by the way, and she makes crappy jokes.

:(I'm the bio whiz who gets 99% on the exams I still did a great job in exam but not b/c of Mason. I took Bio11 and that preped me enough. This class was a disaster. Completely scattered and Vague! Super nice lady but too reliant on web page and sleep inducing power point. The Dean was contacted by many students about her, the labs, & the *tests*.
I only have labs with her but she seems to go for the hardest way of explaining things. When she writes things on the white board it is better to just block it out and figure out an easier way of doing it. Classmates are extremely helpful. I'm afraid of her tests.

Rosemary is not a good teacher. I rated her as a hard teacher, but it is not because she does a good job of challenging you, it is because she goes out of her way to confuse you. The labs are like books that are full of excess information that does not need to be there. Her test layouts are designed to confuse you.Class averages are around 55%.
This woman is kind and will go out of her way to help you understand her class. If you work hard, she will help you to get a good grade. Her web notes need to be a bit more organized. She is the only prof I ever knew that actually gave the class her home phone # before an exam if you have Q's! She is dedicated and cares about her students. LOVE HER
Not a good teacher. Labs were boring and unorganized. Lectures were long and boring. Inadequate answers as to criteria and questionable marking scheme on tests. If you want to do good, be prepared to know your stuff inside out.
She is so unorganized and has an extremely annoying voice. It is nearly impossible to learn from her. She is boring and gives out useless but mandatory homework that does nothing but waste your study time. She also assign things like making you do flashcards as if it was still high school.

Rosemary is insanely disorganized, gives out loads of useless homework, and all we do in lecture is watch movies.
Gives a lot of homework that confuses the hell out of me and bounces around all over the text and in class, sometimes has trouble explaining things clearly enough.. Homework listed as 'reading' for a particular day doesnt provide page numbers. A lot of HW without a lot of direction and then poor marks.
Be warned, you should avoid this prof at all costs. She is a nice women and has a passion for Biology, but is a useless teacher. She just does not make it clear what she wants from her class and the labs are a waste of time.

Horrible, horrible, horrible. She is the most inept teacher I beleive I have ever met. DAILY she will need to be corrected by the students, she cannot keep focus for a lecture, cannot comprehend intelligent questions, etc.
Expect to study at least eight hours per week in this class. Study the lab manual more then anything, as it combines with the lecture material.Nice lady. Will help if needed
NOT recommended. Lectures makno sense. Often confuses herself & stops the lecture 2 try and understand what she is saying. Has very poor methods of teaching. U will have to teach yourself out of the text book if u want a decent grade. She does not make herself available whatsoever out of class, and has very low enthusiasm about material. Just, no.

She marks hard on everything. She marks like a strict English prof also in your paragraph assignments. Some of the assignments appear useless also. Nice lady, but it's a class that I hate to go to every week. No lab review for the midterm which is lame... Oh and she's never in the lab during lab days....
By far the worst class I have taken at Camosun. Lectures are uninspiring and poorly organized. No direction given in labs leaves no desire to attend. Midterms are MASSIVE and complex with NO review. Incredibly unrealistic expectations for students. If you want a decent grade be prepared to study your material for full days before a midterm. BEWARE.
She is not a good teacher for 1st year bio. She expects students to know 4th year material which is ridculous and not fair. She is a nice lady, but a terrible teacher. Do not take her class if you want to do well.
WORST teacher I have EVER had! Avoid her at all costs! She hasn't done the labs herself before assigning them. They will not work out for you so she will stop the class to type alter the lab. Because of this your results will be wrong and she will take A LOT of marks off. Gave midterm before reading break so she could use it to mark them!
Rosemary is a super nice lady, and is willing to spend time with you on tough subjects, but her lectures are unclear, and her objectives are very broad when she wants specific things. The content is far above that for first year, and compared to other sections of the same course, the midterm marks are nearly 30% lower. DO NOT TAKE AT ALL COSTS!!
Rosemary's exams are designed to see if you can answer with the answer that she thinks is right. If you read it out of the text...that doesn't mean it's right. If you don't pay attention in class, good luck to you - you will need it!
WONDERFUL woman but exams are structured so you must give specific answers even though multiple answers might be correct. Expected to understand concepts thoroughly. Lectures are easy to follow, labs are often VERY unorganized and confusing.
Rosemary is the worst teacher I have ever had. I went into this class loving biology, always having earned A's in every bio class I've taken. After this class, I never wanted to take another bio again. No matter how much you study, how much help you get, there is no getting passed her. Exams are so hard...make you wanna cry.
Yes rosemary is a tough teacher and yes at times she is not very clear, but overall she is a good teacher. This class pushed me to my limits and drove me insane at times, but the study skills I learned in her courses prepared me well for university.

She gives you tests that should be fairly easy and even if you answer each question and feel good about it she will find a way to fail you. Dont take this class, you will hate your life.
I agree with the comments here. She is the worst teacher I have ever had, she definitely picks favorites and gives them high test scores. For every midterm we have been given sample ones to get a basis of what will be on the test. You will not get one for the final! She wants you to learn everything and see which one she picks. Worst class ever.
Rosemarry is a terrible teacher, she tries to be so precise she ends up being very vague and confusing. Everytime she tries to explain something it is just this confusing mess that needs the textbook or another teacher to clarify. Oh and shes marks like we are doing our PhD in the subject. AVOID HER!!!

As far as getting help from her, she will answer your question as if your a complete idiot and makes you hate biology.
Doesnt use the textbook and when you try to follow along with it she'll be on one page skip forward 20 pages to the next topic then back again. ALL OVER THE PLACE! Her lecture slides consist of only pictures and no text so you can tell you're looking at a bacteria, just not which one. Let's just say shes HORRIBLE. Nice person though.
A little extra effort is required because the notes she gives can be difficult to follow and study.

Her tests are fair. She posts the learning objectives for her classes and if you can memorize the answers to the objectives you will get an A+ on her tests. Her weakness is her notes and so its really important that you use the textbook to study from.
despite all the bad reviews, I believe Rosemary is an awesome prof. She loves what she is doing and that's pretty rare to find. She is nice with everyone and if you show interest she'll engage with you. It is a hard course but if you are continuing studying biology, you'll need to know all about she is talking about. Get on it!
Worst professor i have ever had. Unreasonable and does not give helpful lectures. I was better of learning it from my text book then showing up for her class. Hell she even forgot about class once!
bad teacher so i barely went to class - just read the text book, which got me an A. she sometimes forgot to come to class and often marked things incorrectly. she marked my lab final as 64%, i asked her about it and turns out she made a mistake and i actually got an A, she changed it but still... WOW.
I found Rosemary to be very helpful and nice. She made time for me in her office hours and gave me great tips. She also loves what she does and is very passionate about biology which made it way more interesting for me since I didn't really want to take the class to begin with. It turned out to be one of my favourite classes.

Not the easiest lectures to understand; however, she has a list of lecture objectives on d2l and as long as you know those you are good to go. Slightly stressful lecture periods but easy tests. Rosemary is a very nice lady.

Rosemary is awesome! I was worried at first to take her class because of all the bad reviews here, but Rosemary turned out to be a very good teacher. She has great teaching skills, loves her work and is also pretty funny. And, she is very understanding about the stress of being a student. Rosemary is a wonderful person. I highly recommend her class

She couldn't have been more clear about what to study or how to get a good grade. She's also a nice person and interested in helping people pursue careers, not just degrees.
Lecture notes not available if you miss a class even for medical reasons. Had 2.5 lectures before the class list was finalized and we had a quiz. No practice tests available, undefined structure in this class. Very unhelpful when student is struggling, She is a lecturer not a teacher,class isn't following her and she doesn't seem to care

She's a very sweet lady, and very funny. However, her powerpoints are essentially useless. Her explanations are vague and a bit confusing. She's obviously in love with the subject, however, she behaves as though the class already has a high degree of biology knowledge, making for very fast and difficult to follow lectures. Stick to the textbook!!

Though Rosemary is not as up to date on how to use power point like some other teachers, her teaching comes from experience and is always thorough. Some teachers only use material from the textbook while she has taken the time to provide other material to study and alternative ways to learn the material. Her lectures are full of knowledge.
I had Rosemary for 2 courses (both biology) and loved them. The power points were very helpful and I found the courses interesting. Rosemary really seems to care about all her students, making conversation with them outside of class and being genuinely interested in their lives.

If you do not attend class, you will not pass. Her powerpoints are not specific but she will specifically say "This will be on the test", and lecture about a subject. If you show up and listen you will do very well.
