Go to lecture! This class is difficult if you don't study (like me) and you don'tgo to lecture (like me). The TA's are decent.
Lectures weren't bad (better than 101), quizzes range from very easy to kinda hard. Go to class and study some and you should do fine.
Excellent teacher...gives you practice tests, explains info very well and gives great notes in lecture. He makes it interesting. There is plenty of help outside of class if you feel that you need it. Great teacher!
He is a very good teacher and interesting. Go to lecture and study for your midterms. The Final was killer hard, i think it ws to make up for the easy quizes.
Pretty good class. I suck at Chemistry and still got an A- at the end of the quarter, thanks to a generous curve. Review sessions and practice exams are very helpful for the midterms/finals- he gives lots of hints. Does take some effort but was easier than 101, at least for me.
His is a great prof and he tells great jokes!
not a bad class, final is a little hard
I liked him until he made us retake the second midterm which caused me to get a lower grade. This class was better than 101 for me because I am a visual learner and the concepts are more visual than 101. Dalbey is a good guy.

He is a great professor who gives great lectures and makes good notes. He is also funny and makes everyone laugh. Because of his personality, I heard some girls saying "he's so cute!" all the time during the lecture. I thought his tests were pretty fair even though the final was kind of hard.
Loved this guy--very sweet man. Final was really hard--other than that, pretty fair. Study.
This class is much harder than I originally thought it would be. Requires a lot of memorization of rules and reaction products. Labs are very easy and leniently graded. Tests are scantron, but don't underestimate them. He shoots for a low average, so blow away the curve on the first two tests so you can coast on the final exam.
He is the BEST professor ever!!!!!!!!!! Very, very helpful!!!!!!!!
Unintentionally funny guy. Gives practice midterms for chem 102 from previous quarters, but yours may be slightly harder, so do some homework, other than that, he even gives practice quizes on his website... This professor WANTS YOU TO DO WELL, HE IS NO MEANIE.
Dr. Dalbey was a great professor. He was informative, organized, and often unintentionally hilarious in kind of an endearing, nerdy way. Definitely a good bet if you have to take an intro chem course.
Great professor! He is very clear and personable. GO TO THE REVIEW SESSIONS FOR THE MIDTERMS- he tells you exactly what you need to know. Only downfall: the final is really hard, so don't bank on it to raise your grade.
I hate chem, and I did not mind this course at all. If you do the practice tests you do fine on the midterms! Quizzes are fair, and overall his lectures are helpful!! I would take a class from him again!
Biochem is his specialty, so he sometimes went a little more in depth than necessary (for a GEC) on certain topics that were not covered on the exams and skimmed over other topics. The book rounds this out though. Nice guy. Go to the reviews that he and the TAs put on.
Dr. Dalbey is a great teacher, unfortunately his class just sucks. I don't like chem, so it wasn't easy for me, but he was always very helpful and was just a good teacher
Although Chem isn't the best thing in world, he made it kinda "fun". He does notes on the overhead&color codes a lot, so if u write in one color, the notes might be kind of confusing when u go back home to read them. He's a cute, old man! Random, funny things happen in class! Do the review packets&go to review sessions and youll be fine!
He is a fair professor! Chemistry is just a horrible subject! He is a very funny guy with a dry sense of humor. He seems to really care for his students. I would definitely take his course if you have to take chemistry 102.
This is how Chemistry ought to be taught. His lectures are clear and his dry humor breaks up the monotany. I did a lot better in the class than I expected and it is largley due to the quality of Dr. Dalbey.
Professor Dalbey is great. He's a funny guy that wants you to do well. I saw him several times in my lab sessions and he walked around answering questions and helping. I got a C in this class, only because I should have studied better. The class was curved.
Dalbey is a very nice teacher, the class is very straight forward, (Quizes, labs, two midterms and a final). He makes the exams VERY tough to make the average of the class very poor, but at the end of the term there is a very significant curve. Good class.
Always gives notes, so lecture is very helpful. Quizzes and tests are super easy if you go to lecture and study. The labs are a waste of time, but you have to go anyways. Isn't tricky on the midterms or finals- if you put in the work you are supposed to, you will get an A. I recommend taking 102 with him
Dr. Dalbey is really a good guy. He's really nice, and you can tell he wants his students to do well! His lecture notes are helpful. Quizzes are usually fair. However, exams are ludicrously difficult. Class averages are around 50%. That being said, there is a generous curve given at the end!
To succeed in this class you have to work for it. He told me what topics to study for exams and quizzes, which extremely helped me out and saved me time in knowing what to study. You should go to all his exam reviews and attend office hours, extremely helpful. Make sure you read the book and do practice problems!
With a class of about 300 in lecture it is hard for an instructor to reach out and take the time to answer questions and further explain. the class would sometimes have to correct him and he basically read off the slides. i didnt attend very many of the lectures because powerpoints were posted online. if he just reads them why sit in a 3 hr lecture
He would tell you something would not be on an exam and it would be. Dalbey does not care about you as a student. There were multiple times in class where we had to correct him. He mumbles and is very hard to understand at times. I found going to class a complete waste of time. You have no idea what your grade is going to be until the end.
He is the best chem teacher! Explain the knowledge very clear. Support material on carmen is very helpful.
Dr. Dalbey creates power points and reads straight off of them, he posts them online even with the annotations he makes during lecture, he often needs to be corrected and seems to not know what he's talking about.
All he does is read from the powerpoints. When you email him, he doesn't ever get back to you and we have to correct him all the time. He's really funny, though. He is a nice guy, but just not a good professor. I have to reread sections in my book all of the time.
He's a genuine and quirky guy who has fun in his lectures. Sometimes he doesn't know what he is talking about an often is corrected by students. The tests are normally much harder than the practice exams, so be prepared. A very nice guy who is willing to help, but the class is challenging for sure.
He only reads off the power points in lecture and his notes are pointless. I do all my learning and studying from the book. This chemistry class is very difficult, but there are lots of lab points that help. When you ask questions in lecture he doesnt clarify, but he is a nice and funny guy
He's a great guy but honestly he sucks at teaching. Reads mostly straight off the slides, and I've never been more bored in a class than in his. Everyone performs terribly on tests, and the curve is barely even explained. Online homework is easy, quizes are set up to help you, labs aren't too bad (depends on TA) but exams will most likely screw you
You could be doing great in the class, but the exams are impossible. I often find myself feeling confident in knowing all the material, only to get a D on the exam. Lectures are boring and students correct him very often. Many times, he looks at his own lecture slides like he has never seen them before. Funny and nice guy, poor instructor.
Dr. Dalbey gives you study guides for the exams. However this covers very little of what is actually on the exam. In order to prepare for exams, read the textbook chapters in depth. Also do the practice problems! This helps immensely. He posts the answer keys online. By using the textbook you get a good base on what material will be on the exam.
The professor doesn't deliver very well and doesn't ask if we have questions. Not really there for the students and dismissive. Unclear most of the time and his exams are really hard, if you don't have a chemistry background.
He is a kind person but he does not have a good technique to deliver information to students. I gave us a practice exam from last year, and they were fine but when we get the real exam was completely different.
In lecture, he reads directly off of his slides. His slides give WAY too much unnecessary information; and therefore, you don't have a clue what to study. His tests are 10 times harder than his lecture examples so it is very hard to prepare. I would suggest going to office hours and the help center and Celeste to be successful.
Dr. Dalbey is my favorite professor, he is so goofy and entertaining in lecture. I only had experience in chemistry from junior year in high school, and Chem 1110 was basically the same thing just at a faster pace. If you're lost, go to office hours. If you do and understand the online homework there is NO reason you should not get an A on exam
The problem isn't the prof as much as it is the CHEM dept. Hard to find help a lot of times, HW ridiculously long each week, tests nearly impossible to pass even after a week of studying. Prof lectures are long and dry, but he seems nice. Again, just a bad dept at OSU.
Dr. Dalbey loves Chemistry but has very little idea on how to communicate it to students. I found myself better off just mindlessly taking notes, reading the book and teaching myself instead of trying to follow his thoughts. He is an adorable old man though and likes to make jokes.
To give a quick run down, the lectures are extremely dry and very long. I found that I did better on the exams where I didn't even attend class or look at his notes. I did the best when I read and outlined the textbook, as did pretty much everyone else in the class. The tests are pretty tough, but if you put in the work, you should be fine.
Dr. Dalbey is the classic absent minded professor. He really loves chemistry and is very smart, but you may leave lecture confused a lot. Although he was always helpful if you needed it. Through the lab and doing the online homework I didnt have to read the book and was able to understand what he was talking about in lecture.
Professor Dalbey is a really sweet and funny guy, but not the best professor. He frequently seems lost in his own lectures. I rely HEAVILY on the textbook. The exam averages are about 65% so he curves each up to a C. Lots of people complain the tests are too hard, but listen, if you work hard and read the textbook you should get an A.
His lectures are dry. If you ask for help later after class, it ends up being waste of your breathe. Dalbey always tells you to talk to you TA if you have questions, not him. There are 25 questions for 3 exams worth a ton of points. The final is 40 questions and cumulative. I HATED THIS CLASS! Take Dr. S for this class!
Dr. Dalbey is a great prof who goes out of his way to help his students do well in the class. He holds review sessions before exams, and will always answer any questions you have to the best of his ability. Lecture can be dry, but have you ever been to a fun chem lecture? Chemistry is a hard subject to teach and learn, give the man a break.
Dr. Dalbey is not the easiest to understand; he is almost too smart to teach. Typically if you read the book and make your own notes you'll be fine. Other than that he is the nicest and sweetest guy you'll ever meet. He's clueless when it comes to some things like an explosive demo in class, but it makes it all the more better. Take him if you can!
Dr. Dalbey is a great person who clearly has a deep passion for chemistry, but has a hard time explaining it to students. He gets confused at his own lectures sometimes, but he really does want his students to well and holds review sessions on sundays. Overall, I would recommend taking his class, but be prepared to teach yourself sometimes.
Dalbey is a great guy, but isn't the best at teaching. If you attend class AND read the textbook, you should be fine. The material is covered very quickly and he doesn't know how to answer questions sometimes. But he is caring and wants his students to do good. He gives important topics for exams, which are really helpful so you know what to study.
Knows what he is talking about. Gives out key topics for midterms. Fair Chemistry Professor.
So much homework every week, along with pre laboratory, and a post laboratory. There are two lectures a week cramming content, along with a recitation and a lab. I would not take this class again.
Dr. D was one of the friendliest faces I encountered in my first semester of college. He hosts multiple review sessions before every exam and does what he can to help you succeed. He was always trying his best to keep everyone engaged during lecture because chemistry can be pretty boring. His office hours always proved to be helpful.
Fair teacher for intro chemistry. A lot of times he is just reading off the slides or his notes, but it is good to go to lecture for all the practice problems. Has review sessions pretty much every Sunday. Posts two exams from previous semesters for exam review. Lab and recitation are easy, but you have to show up to every one for credit
Dr Dalbey really cares about his students. He held help sessions and exam review almost every sunday of the semester and was always available for questions. Although the exams were quite hard, as long as you supplemented his lectures with the textbook you should be fine. Overall, a kind and knowledgable professor. Use the textbook and online hw!!!
Dr. Dalbey is the most caring, and helpful professor I've ever had. He understands chemistry is hard, and is available outside of class. He also holds review sessions, GO TO THOSE! Pay attention in lecture, and do review problems in the book. Also, be careful in lab and recitation; it's easy to lose points in those areas.
Dr. Dalbey is a nice guy, but for a non math person, this class is hard. Labs and recitations are mandatory and come with additional work. Homework is online and due Sunday night. I found the the lab department to be quite difficult when dealing with a personal situation (almost failed) but I passed thanks to a generous curve. Go to his reviews
One of the best Professors at OSU. He was so dedicated for everyone to pass. He held review sessions every Saturday and an additional one on Sundays before exams. Sometimes he would get a little confused by questions, but not too bad. One of my favorite professors here.
Dr. Dalbey is the quintessential nice old man, he has reviews every week, and extra reviews before exams. There were three reviews before the finals, and at one of them he bought three sheets of pizza from adriatico's, and another he brought in cookies his wife made. The class is pretty similar to my high school chemistry, with some extra stuff.
His demos are so funny and you can tell he loves them too. Do well in the lab and explain your thoughts. Attend all the Sunday review sessions and you will pass no problem. I made review guides out of his "topics" posted and they helped a ton.
Final was terrible. Study for it! Go to review sessions.
Focus on lab grades and exams because they made up a majority of your points and are weighted heavily. Dalbey is a fine lecturer, and I recommend going to his lectures, but it's not a huge deal if you skip a few. He holds review sessions nearly every Sunday, but I found the most effective way of studying was reading the book and taking notes.
Dr. Dalbey is a great professor. He is engaging in lecture and holds good review sessions when its time for a midterm or final. His review sessions really help, I do not recommend missing those. 2 of the 3 weekly lecture hw is for correctness so make sure you use your book so you get all the points. If you put in the work, you should do fine.
Dr. Dalbey is a great professor and he greatly cares about his students. His demos during class are always entertaining and a nice break during long lectures. There are 3 midterms and a very difficult final at the end of the semester. Make sure to attend Dr. Dalbey's review sessions that he holds almost every weekend- they are extremely helpful.
Doctor Dalbey was an overall pretty good professor. He held many review sessions before exams, helping to know what would be on the exams. Reading through the book is very helpful with the homework and studying for the exams. However, Dr. Dalbey was very unorganized with his exams. All three of my midterms had a problem with how they were graded.
Wonderful guy, but doesnt explain very well.
Dr. Dalbey wants you to succeed in chemistry. He recognizes that even though it is an intro class, it is difficult. You do have to dedicate time to this class to pass. But, he has very engaging lectures and he has fair tests and provides a lot of resources to review and study with. Although it is a tough subject, he wants students to succeed.
Dalbey was a fun prof. but the class was a lot of work. The labs took up a lot of time and so did the homework. The first 3 midterms were not too bad but the Final....
He is a nice professor. the problem is he wont directly answer your question. He goes around the question not knowing he isnt giving the answer. also, he doesnt really give good explanations during lecture. He is a caring guy and wants you to know what is on the exam and his office hours do help a little. He has saturday and sunday review sessions
Take dalbeys class if you want to pass! during COVID, he let us make a study guide for ourselves. and for the Final we got to use 5 pages worth of notes! he makes sure to give us information that will be on the exam. chemistry is hard but going to his office hours and asking question after class will help! and the TA are amazing
Dr. Dalbey is truly one of the kindest professors I've ever had. He held many review sessions on Saturdays/Sundays to make sure everyone could learn the material. His lectures are kinda boring, but he does a lot of demonstrations. His exams are only 25 questions, however, so they can be pretty difficult. Overall, a great professor!
Dr. Dalbey cares about his students and gives lots of study materials and hosts many study sessions. Definitely attend the study sessions as he tells you about a lot of what is going to be on the exam. Sometimes his lectures were boring, but the demonstrations always made me laugh.
Dr. Dalbey is just such a funny old guy. He loves to show animals on the lecture slides and he loves to talk about his cats. He is a really nice guy and he is always willing to meet with students during office hours on the weekend. The class in my eyes was really easy with any background chemistry knowledge from high school.
Dr. Dalbey is the sweetest human being alive, and he genuinely wants everyone in his class to do good which is why he offers review sessions on Sundays and occasionally Saturdays. Chemistry is hard but he makes it fun and easy to learn. I always struggled in chem and I'm actually doing good, the hardest part are the exams which there aren't many
Prof Dalbey is one of the best professors Ive ever had. The lectures can be boring but he is always hosting review sessions where he makes the course material a lot easier to comprehend and gives a lot of exam insight. If you go to class and study the class isnt too bad
There are weekly homework assignments that help you to understand the lectures more. I recommend reading the chapters before or after the lecture. They are very helpful. Also Dr. Dalbey hosts review sessions which are super helpful, so I recommend going to those as well. As long as you put in the work, you will get the grade you want.
Dr. Dalbey is an amazing human and professor. He truly cares about his students and wants us to do well. He hosts review sessions weekly and is extremely helpful. He is willing to answer all of our questions. If you stay on top of your work, you will do well in his class. If you have to take Chem 1110 definitely choose him as your professor.
Just focusing on lecture: the lectures are fine but do not go in depth as much as the material on quizzes do. Your textbook and Khan academy are your friend. Ross wants everyone to pass and cares deeply- but that doesnt mean he will go the extra mile. Put in the work and itll come back to you.
exam's are very hard but homework will bring you up. He does sunday review sessions every weekend.... GO to them !!!! saved my grade. final is impossible.
I was HORRIBLE at chem in hs but Dr. Dalbey is an amazing professor. He has review sessions and office hours which are SO HELPFUL!!! He provides the resources you need to succeed and if you use them, YOU WILL DO GREAT!! work hard, put in the time and effort, and he will help you even more. the book is not required but it gives amazing explanations
Decent professor, but the lectures are pretty boring. So long as you pay attention and show up to review sessions you should be fine.
The lectures were really boring, it was very easy to get off track during class. I loved his in-depth Sunday review session. They were more helpful than the class. 3 midterms then the final exam. BE PREPARED!!!!!
Dr. Dalbey is a really good dude. He can be a little disorganized sometimes but he overall really wants his students to do well. The first three midterms aren't extremely hard, but the final was very difficult. I suggest using his office hours and review sessions, and use his key topic sheet so that you feel confident about all test subjects.
Dr. Dalbey was the most amazing professor I have ever had. He donates to much of his time outside of class to help his students, and really wants them to succeed. Attending his review sessions helped studying so much, as he narrows all the class content down to what you need to know for the exam.
I seriously wish i could understand him, he gets very off topic and mumbles about random stuff. has 3 midterms and lots of homework due every sunday. im sure theres better professors to take if you want to do well. i recommend 1210/1220 for a better range of majors you can take.
It was a hard class overall, but as long as you attended lecture and watched the zoom reviews that he posted, you will succeed. He was a bit scatterbrained, and the teaching style was a bit unorganized, but I am also very particular. All assignments and expectations for his class were clear and resources were always available.
Dr. Dalbey was a sweet professor. I went to almost all his office hours and found them to be really helpful. Before exams, he hosts a zoom and goes over material for the upcoming test. I used the online textbook, to follow along but it definitely isn't necessary. Although lectures aren't mandatory you should definitely attend all of them.
Dalbey is a kind and funny professor, he genuinely seems like he wants you to succeed and he takes the time out of his day to do extensive and multiple review videos before each exam. Sometimes he is scatterbrained during lectures but you can tell he has a lot of passion for what he teaches!
Professor Dalbey is a great professor! He takes the time outside of class to do review sessions during zoom for each exam. He seems to genuinely want his students to succeed and has a lot of passion for the subject. He sometimes can be scatterbrained during his lectures but it wasn't a problem for me as long as you pay attention.
Dalby's class was easy if you are an avid studier and student. If you take time outside of class to make your own quizlets and review the slide shows, you will do great. All the practice exams were basically the exact same layout as the actual exam. I received 100% on 2 of the four exams, and the worst I did was an 18/20 on the first exam.
