Ross is the best math teacher I have ever had. Period.
Good and very helpful
Ross is a unique guy and may not suit everyone, but I really like him. I have "math issues" and he has really, really, helped. I will take the rest of my math from him.
I do not recommend this teacher. First of all, he picks favorites, and if you were in his class before you get more attention. Secondly, he is very difficult to pin down for after hour time with him, and even when you do, he has difficulty explaining the curriculum.
He has a tendency to confuse people and spends most of the class talking about life.
ross was the worst teacher on this campus i never got 1/2my work back he is very disorganize he made comments more on life or other mth class other then mth95 i learned more from the book and walked into class just to get confused i recommened everyone andanyone to never take his class you'llbesorry
I find it unprofessional for a professor to assign work and not reciprocate the effort of the student by returning the work in a timely manner with a grade. If you enjoy unnecessary anxiety and rambling lectures, Ross is the prof for you!
I don’t know if I was in the same 95 class as the others, but Ross was the best math teacher I have ever had. He is the first one to explain where this stuff might be needed. He finally explained where math is used in life and other classes. He didn’t give much work back, but we could redo the exams
Ross was awesome. He was really clear and would spend hours with me outside of class. This was my second time taking the class and if I had ross the first time I wouldn’t have had to taken it twice. I cant see how anyone could call him abrubt and callous. Take him if you want to learn
Call him tangent man, he was abrupt and callous he never got the HM back in time to study for the up coming test. He would talk about everything but math, I don’t recommend anyone take a class from and I passed it but I totally recommend take some else.
Really helped me overcome a big fear of math. I am actuall looking forward to algebra. He is a little too excited about math but this makes him fun and he is really helpful. I wish I could have him every term.
I was sure that I would always suck at math, but I got an A in Rosses class! He made it interesting and helped to break it down into small pieces. Now a am in math 60 and it is easy so far. Ross changed everything. Best teacher ever!
I took Ross for most of the calculus series at PSU. He was one of the best Professors that I ever had. Whenever I needed to use calculus in my engineering classes I always seemed to have an advantage over everyone else and I remembered the way Ross taught/explained it. It is really helpful to have someone that relates the material to other areas.
Awsome instructor!! Very clear and helpfull. Ross made this the most interesting math class that I have ever had. (but I still hate the identies!!) Highly recomend.
Ross Rocks! He made it all make sence despite the book. The other students in my 112 class wished they had taken ross.
Really hard class. They expect us to get through to many sections. Ross was great. He was always so much clearer than the book. He really cares and even gives out his cell number. He always spent time going over something if you needed help. MTH 95 is not a class for slackers, but dont blame a great teacher if you dont want to do the work.
Ross is the best! I wish I still had him. He even met to help me even though I am not in his class anymore. I wish I was still inhis class.
Ross wasthe best teacher I have ever had. He was really clear and heplful. He is really good at relating the math to real world. I like how he also talks about the history. I recomend him.
If you have a hard time with math, take Ross's class. You will not be disappointed. I over came my fear of Math, I got a B for the first time EVER! He is willing to meet you anytime for help.. Great man, Great teacher.
Good, but hard. Gives a buttload of work.
very nice. really cares.
Ross actually explains things. He was very good at getting me to understand what was going on. It was nice to have a math class that made sense so I understood there was a reason for doing all this work. I highly recommend him.
No calculators.. Ross Folberg thinks that his way of teaching is the best and only way....... unclear when comes to examples and Ross has no patients with older returning students. He will give more intrest in students that he favors. very aragunt
Nice guy, bright, available, knows his math, but disorganized. Rambling lectures, obvious he had not done homework problems. Poor exam writing (heavy on review) led to 3hr+ exams (class=2.6hr). Syllabus mentioned quizzes and writing assignment, but he never gave them. Wtih 7 day notice, gave a take home final that took 15+ hours. Don't recommend
Does not explain problems, unvailable to students, writing not legible, never returned any homework or tests, lots of student drops from class after first major test, inappropriate remarks to students in front of others about grade standing, due to poor teaching ability I will not graduate on time due to needing to retake class
Finally a great teacher. I have always struggled with math (had to take 60 twice), but Ross finally made it make sense. He came in on his days off to help students and let us redo to exams for more points. I wish he wrote the book because he makes a lot more sense. He is much harder than my other teachers, but actually makes it easier.
Ross definetly can ramble. He is so excited about math and wanting you to learn and understand. He shows multiple ways of doing the same problem, which at times can be confusing. He's more than willing to meet you at almost any time and answered his phone on weekends!! I want him for all my classes.
He is the best math teacher ever. I've never liked math or had an A in math. He makes it understandable. I wish he could always be my math teacher!
Ross is not for everyone, If you don't understand he will explain again louder. listen to his talk on the first day about how if you like a particular instructor then you should go with them. I wished I had. I was an A student, not any more.
He rambles on about how he LOVES Math & he's ALWAYS late to class. Although, he is willing to meet with you if you have time. Some of us work & don't have time to meet after class, I wish he would focus in class. Several student have left this class because of the way he teaches.
Horrible, I had to take his class over. I realize that my new professor is actually going over the material, something that Ross never did very thoroughly. I attended every class, did all the homework, met with him after class, and still had to take a NO Pass. I would NOT recommend him. All in all he was a waste of my time and money.
Ross mentioned countless of times that his biggest intention in the classroom was to help his students get over a fear of math. He did the opposite for me, and I like many others did not achieve a good mark, which was reflective of his teaching method.
Ross’ tests were too long, but he graded them easy and let us redo them for more points. He spent too much of the class teaching what we learned from in math 65 because a lot of people didn’t know it. Overall, a good teacher. I just would have liked more new material and less reteaching what we learned in the previous class.
Ross is a teacher who runs through material too fast, gives excessive homework, unreliable quizzes, and doesn't really clarify Mathematics in simple terms for students.
If you take this class, be prepared to be tested on how well you suck up and follow directions, not how well you know the material. He will also assume you have cheated unless you can show ALL work & will not give credit if you don't, even if you get the correct answer. Guilty until proven innocent. I complained to the dean, but w/ no result.
he isn't that good a teacher. i am severely stressed out. he assigns homework that he hasn't covered in class and gets upset because there are a lot of questions at the next class.
If you are trying to fell math take him--if you are trying to pass as I was--keeping looking for a teacher. He's very good at talking about every other subject and mixing in a little math. He deserves an "F."
DO NOT TAKE THIS INSTRUCTOR!!! Many students in my Math 95 class complained after he failed us. We attended EVERY class, did ALL of the work, and even met with him after class!! What more can I say?? He is a friend of the dean, so it is almost pointless to complain. If you are reading this then please listen when I tell you to seriously reconsider
worst!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Best math teacher I ever had. Unlike many teachers he didn't care how we did the problems as long as they were algebraic and worked. He's good at explaining and I actually -understood- most of the material for once. He can talk a lot and his class isn't easy, but if you put in the effort and show up (and have pre-Algebra down) you should be fine.
Ross is the WORST I am gonna fail his class now. Im currently in his fall mth 20. Half of the class or more will fail do to his non teaching style. He assigns homework that he dosent go over in class, gives TO MUCH HOMEWORK and dosent go over it. He is a waste of time and money. I had to resort to the learning center to hope to pass with a C avoid
Terrible teacher, I would NOT recommend him if you are a person that struggles with math as I am. He's always late. he wastes lots of time talking about things that are unrelated to the class, then when the class is nearly over he rushes through the material in an incomprehensible blur. Stay away
Very helpful and is good at explaining the course work.
Very helpful.
Ross loves math and, I think, loves teaching but unfortunately he's very bad at it. He wastes tons of time talking about things totally unrelated to what yr supposed to be doing and then gives you a test as thick as the textbook. I worked my butt off and still got a D. Don't take Ross unless u really want a challenge! Worse class at PCC so far!
Not Very Helpful at all!! The guy below me must be crazy. Ross is NOT very helpful or good at explaining the coursework. Bad, Bad, Bad Ross! dont pass go or collect 200 dollars.
clear lectures but can ramble. makes more sence than the book. does give a lot of homework!
Ross requires alot of you. His tests are hard but you can do them and the redos are nice. He really makes the class fun and is the best teacher at applying the math to the real world. I never thought I would say a math class is fun. Not good if you just want to get through the class. Good if you want to learn math!
ehh.. easily rambling on one equation.
Awful! He always goes off on tangents. He spends so much time answering questions as oppposed to covering upcoming material, that at the end of class it's rush rush. I thought that was what the learning center was for...I end up going there all the time because I'm not getting the math that we rush through to cover. What a mess! DO NOT TAKE HIM!
Ross is very enthusiastic about math however, he rambles about irrevelant topics and saves the most important topic for the last part of class. He rushes through the material and spends too much time explaining one concept. He loves math but his teaching skills aren't too great. If you need help go to him or call him. He was helpful in this aspect.
He was easily side tracked and often refused to answer student's questions before he finished his confusing monologue about how cool math really is. I ended up teaching myself much of the material out of the textbook because he had a hard time getting through lectures.
Don't take his class unless you want to spend your entire weeking doing copious amounts of homework. His tests are ridiculously hard and nowhere near the level of problems you learn in class or in the book. He is a bit funny and nerdy and gets marker hand prints on his head, which is kind of endearing.
Ross is probably the worst math teacher I've had in my life. I spend my entire weekend doing boat loads of homework, and was still behind in that class. He's a nice guy, but expects way too much from you. DO NOT TAKE MATH FROM ROSS IF YOU STRUGGLE WITH MATH. I wish I knew about this website before I took his class...
Ross was the worst math teacher I've ever had. I spent every weekend doing homework and was still behind in that class. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS IF YOU STRUGGLE WITH MATH!
His lectures were about how cool math is and how he uses big words so he can make more money. Other than that - didn't get much out of the class. I asked for additional help and scheduled office time with him but he failed to show up. Not impressed with his teaching techniques at all. Don't take him!
Really hard but does a good job of preparing you for the next class. he made math 95 easy! Lectures are clear but does like to tell stories.
As long as you are moyivated to learn the material, you will do well in Ross's class. He does assign a lot of work and his tests are hard, but in this way the material is driven into your head. His teaching style in combination with the tutoring center is all you need to actually LEARN math. If you just want to pass then find a different teacher.
Compared to the other Math instructors that I've dealt with since (whom I were all rated much higher) I found Ross's teaching style to be extremely effective with the way my mind worked at least. All of the concepts he taught were explained in a vivid manner that made math exciting. His program was well thought out and balanced.
By far the worst teach I have had at PCC. Lectures are unrelated to homework and tests are unrelated to everything. 1/2 the class dropped and I am jealous I didn't follow suit.
By far the worst teacher I have had at PCC. Lectures are unrelated to homework and tests are unrelated to everything. 1/2 the class dropped and I am jealous I didn't follow suit.
WORST TEACHER EVER. don't do it. don't even think about it. it is like having an asthma/anxiety attack. he will talk and talk (unrelated to math) and never breathe and his voice will get louder and he will laugh insanely. meanwhile, if you have a question about math, well, he doesn't have time. making students feel stupid is his specialty.
Good. God. Going to this class was like pulling teeth. My only salvation was the fact that I could sit in the back and text while he rambled on about nothing in particular. It didn't help the other people in the class were completely lost, I skipped 3 weeks of the class and when I came back they were in the same spot. BEWARE!
At first I was not happy with the way he was teaching, but now I realize his method and am into it. We would be lost without his handouts (they are great). The book sucks. He is always available to help and does care. In the end I know a lot more than a friend in another class. So he is hard but good.
He Talks more than he listens. He goes way to fast. Does not grade homework. He is sloppy.
i used to like math...until... he is so nice though. hw schedule is too confusing
I like him, he makes the class a bit more interesting with history and talking. He is very open to help and taking questions.
Ross is hard but good. He should write the book because it sucks. He has a good way of explaining things. He also is the first teacher to show me where the math is used and has some cool demos. His tests are long and challenging but straight forward. He should work on being neater on the board.
I thought Ross was interesting, but wasn't sure why he was so insistent certain things. I really liked all the history and always showing real world examples. Now that I am in calculus I realize how good he was and wish I had taken him instead. But PSU is alot more fun than PCC.
Folberg is a horrible professor. He tends to ramble in class and talk about things that don't have anything to do with the subject. He does not start lecturing till the lat 20 minutes of class and then expects his students to be able to do 3 or 4 sections of home work. He does not explain material really at all. DO NOT take his classes
I really wanted to like him. Very nice enthusiastic guy. Worthless instructor. Talks and is otherwise distracting throughout testing, even the final. requires attendance and gets stuck teaching a single concept to whichever three students don't get it the entire class time. I learned the material by reading the textbook, no help from Folberg.
Ross is a very horrible math teacher.DONOT TAKE HIS CLASS IF U WANT TO PASS. He is not good at explaining things. He is a tuff teacher. He counts half of the points off if you dont put a (.) at the end of the sentence, for story problems. Even if the answer is right.I wish i would have known about this website before :-(
He is very accessible if you have problems, even giving out his cell #. He knows his stuff but isn't for everyone. Tries to be encouraging but is unintentionally intimidating. Storms into class, usually late, with his bag of markers and immediately starts scribbling on the board. Made me anxious, even though he tries to be fun and interesting.
Ross wow where to start he showed quite a few times late. I felt he was unorganized he always carried like 30 markers in a zip lock bag. our tests were not graded in time. He seem to be cranky all the time. He would get side track alot. he ws not helpful to me the book helped!
Horrible. Forgets his notes to class and rambles for huge amounts of the lecture. When he does come prepared he runs through the relevant material in a matter of seconds, in order to focus on the most obscure points. Test are 2-1/2 hours long, with no practice material. I avoid heading to the tutoring center when he is there, he is useless.
WORST TEACHER EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ross spends the whole class rambling about nothing and expects everybody to get it. On tests people where happy with Ds. DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!!!!
Easily the worst teacher at PCC. His grading is random, he is alway at least 10 minutes late, and he spends the class talking about how relevant what we are "learning" is to the real world without actually going over the material. He then often tests on the things he said were unimportant in class. Do not take him if you want to learn.
I enrolled in this class as a requirement, hoping to have a better teacher this term than my prerequisite, but I was sadly disappointed. He was enthusiastic enough about the subject, proven by his assigning OVER 100 PROBLEMS and 3 labs due the second week after hardly discussing any material at all in class. Looking elsewhere!
Ross likes to hear himself talk. However he is passionate about math and wants to share that passion. He goes off on tangents about the history behind whatever and it's easy to loose him. He WILL help but you have to actively seek him out. Spent a lot of time in the learning center.
He's a good teacher, if you're a good student.
Ross is very passionate about math. He is a hard teacher, but if you do the work and don't miss classes, you'll pass. I had him for math 20 and 60, my first two terms back in college. When I was struggling he was always available for help and would make exceptions if he knew you were trying hard. Wish he was teaching 65 next term. He'll be missed.
He would say that if you did the homework you would do well on the tests. Not the case. No one did well in his class, no one learned from his lectures, no one could even finish the tests in time! He really shouldn't be a teacher.
I had Ross for 112 and came back for 251 because his passion about the subject was one of the only things that got me through it. He is one of the only teachers at PCC that values academic rigor, and I appreciate that, but his courses will also take over your life. On the plus side, algebra is no longer my sworn enemy.
Ross started the term acting as if he really cared. By the time the 2nd midterm was done he was telling the class that everyone did so poorly his department head felt he shouldn't continue with a policy of redoing the entire midterm perfectly to regain 1/3 or the missed points. Scaring students into not talking to your department head, so classy.
I am not good at math, so I needed someone that would take their time, use lots of clear examples, and be concerned if the student's grasped onto math. He failed on all accounts. He thinks his calculator is God's gift to the world and that math is life. He knows math well; too well. He flies through the problems and nobody can keep up. Do not take!
Ross is great and passionate about math. Really explained things well. I am bummed he is not teaching here now. My main complaint was that he kept helping the same people that were not doing the work and that slowed the class down. his exams have no surprises but are long and challenging.
Very willing to help in, and outside of class. unfortunately he talks WAY too much, goes off topic, repeats stories/notes excessively, and only gives 5 min break. Must stay ENTIRE class for credit.REQUIRES you to literally voice that you "understand" every couple mins. hw is for teaching yourself. ugh.
This was the best math class I have ever had. I have always hated math before, but the math we did was interesting. Too bad all the math classes to get to this one are so stupid.
Great teacher. Shows how everything is used later on. Only complaint is that he spends too much time trying to make the people that don't like math like it.
Cool class. Ross looks at math differently than any of my other teachers. Showed interesting side of math.
I miss Ross. In his class I thought he was interesting but challenging. Now in my math 111 class i realize what he was doing. This class seems pretty easy and see how well he prepared me.
I'm very unhappy with this teacher. He was consistently late, got off topic a lot, unclear with teaching, didn't hand back half the quizzes, and was impossible to get help from. This is the worst teacher that I've had.
Ross was really good but hard. his tests were hard, but he pretty much told you what was going to be on it and let us do what he called a redo to get more points back. not good if you don't care or want an easy grade.
Ross is awesome! He explains things really clearly and encourages students to get in touch when help is needed, giving several different ways to do so. He breaks down difficult concepts in a simple way and is always happy explaining why. He's a great teacher, and his love for math is infectious. Highly recommended!
Like last poster said. Don't take if you want an easy A but Ross was the best teacher i had. I learned alot and the class was almost fun.
No one did well in his class, no one learned from his lectures, no one could even finish the tests in time! DONT TAKE HIS CLASS.
Not recommended to take a class taught by him. Makes you comfortable from the start of the term, but not helpful throughout the rest. Withdrew before end of term. No use of purchasing book when he doesn't want go by it or use it. He has his own ways of teaching. Didn't understand a thing he taught, even though I read the book and did the homework.
Ross made students in class feel uncomfortable with snide and passive-aggressive comments. Not helpful in or out of class. Nobody would participate. High pressure tests, not enough time to finish. Take this class only if you dislike fun learning environments and want to LOWER your GPA.
Ross is great person, but he is not the best teacher. Quizzes are hard, midterms HARDER. He doesn't grade homework. He is helpful outside of class though. Do your homework, come see him and put a lot of time into the class - this way you pass it.
Ross is nice. Unfortunately he is not a good teacher. Doesn't lecture out of the book but makes us do homework out of the book and then doesn't give us a practice exam and then the exam is NOTHING like the homework. I love math and yet I hate this class and feel like I've learned nothing and we're halfway through the term.
That "I think I should drop the class" feeling you get from this guy? LISTEN TO IT. Get out and find a better teacher to wait-list on. Unless you absolutely have to take this class to maintain full-time status or GI Bill (to retake after you fail, which is likely), it's better to skip out on this teacher than to stay in the class.
Despite being an okay guy, Ross is a horrible teacher. He is by far the worst teacher I've ever had. He spends half of the class on tangents that have nothing to do with the material, and teaches in a sporadic, unorganized, and unclear manner. Everything I've learned this term has been through YouTube and independent study. Do NOT take his classes.
Ross grades hard but fair. He cares about student success, and is totally available during and outside of class. He wants everyone to get it, so he is welcoming of questions and will explain things several times in several ways until you get it. However, he does teach difficult subjects, so do the homework, even if it's not required to turn in.
Ross was the hardest but most interesting math teacher I ever had. Relates math to the real world. really available for help. I even called him on the weekends.
Ross is definitely not the easiest teacher. Do not take him if you just want to cruise over the class without putting hard work on it. But if you want to see math related to the real world and to be challenged and really learn math,he is the right teacher. He is also very helpful and really cares about his students' success. But you have to care too!
Great teacher! He reignited my interest in math (after it died out from a series of bad professors). He makes math fun and interesting, you actually will want to go to class!
Ross is a really nice guy. That being said, he is the worst teacher on the planet. I have never struggled so much with a class in my life. He never gives tests or quizzes back in a timely manner and he is a very tough grader! Only take his class if you have the magical ability of teaching yourself math, and never mistakes.
Ross is a good teacher, although the class design and the organization of the class makes it very hard! Expect a quiz every class, and expect to spend hours upon hours studying if you want to pass the class.
Pretty confusing class, some of it was pretty cool though. Hardest part was that the class was all SO vague no structure at all! He seemed to get real mad at students a few times but not at me so I kinda liked him.
Ross is very nice and helpful. He has VERY open office hours and you can call him whenever. He wants his students to succeed! BUT, he takes roll, NO PHONES allowed, a quiz a day (which you will never get back), very fast paced, prepare to study a TON and be in fear of the 3 huge tests. I struggled a lot but I do know the material now. Be prepared!
Ross was a good teacher and I felt like I really understood what Math really was. He was always available to help. Homework was not given back until the end of the course, quizzes were few and far between, and there are only 3 tests. Ross was very flexible with how you solved and thankfully did not have a specific form he wanted you to follow.
He is chaotic with his teaching but it makes sense. He is also very funny, so it makes class interesting. The class I was in he graded on a curve so it made for good grades. Homework was not mandatory but is super helpful if you want an A. Also very helpful as a teacher, he wants to help his students.
Prepare for Chaos. Ross showed up for class several times completely unprepared to lecture. He often got stuck during examples failing to conclude the procedure for the example, leaving the class stranded in thought then moved on without resolve. You had better be a self-learner to get the most out of this class.
Ross is an interesting teacher. He is very funny and knows alot about the background history of math. Ross grades very leniently and gives alot of extra credits (on parts you did well on the exam). However, Ross is sometimes unprepared for the lecture and makes the whole class puzzled.
Ross is really easy to get along with if you show respect. He leaves it up to you on whether or not you succeed. If you ask for help, he'll be there 100%. Some classes drag on and you have to remind him to take a break between hours, but overall, he's easy going and knows his stuff!
known for being an inconsiderate and difficult teacher. Avoid taking any classes form him. Impossible to read his writing on the board, is unclear, jumps over important steps. Gives you a negative attitude when you ask questions. Most people in the class felt uncomfortable participating.
Ross is a great teacher, funny, generous with extra credit, helpful and very clear during class.
I would never suggest this teacher to anyone. I like his enthusiasm and how he relates the topics to the real world. But he jumps around constantly, it's hard to read his handwriting, he skips important info, doesn't give you step by step instructions he only gives examples, and sometimes seems unprepared. His teaching style isn't my learning style
Avoid for classes greater than 100.
Lecture was not focused or clear. Examples often went nowhere and were not very helpful. He is better about telling you the history of something more than the actual concepts. Was not clear with how he wanted material presented for exams. Feedback given very late, already into next exam so you couldn't study missed material. Terrible.
Worst Teacher I've ever had (that I can remember). He writes blazingly fast and doesn't explain any steps he just writes them as if we know math and have been teaching it for 20 years. He is often late to class and unprepared and ALWAYS late to give exams back to you. There is two weeks left in the term and I'm trying to get out of his class.
Worst teacher I've ever had. He makes you do exams the way he would do them and he is as confusing as could be. I feel taken advantage of and dumber for actually failing pre-algebra.
Late to every class (at least ten minutes most times), had to go back and reexplain concepts to students because when he taught them the first time he wasn't clear. Difficult to understand his handwriting, difficult to understand his lectures, he didn't even know we were having an exam until the day before. Overall a very lazy teacher.
Ross is a dedicated and passionate teacher. He is enthusiastic about what he does and helps keep the classes attention. Practical use and context of formulas are also explained to help understand why the concepts are important. For anyone who has to take high levels of math I recommend him since you can take it all from only him.
I had a very poor experience in this class, I took it about 2.5 years ago and I never wanted to look at math again after his class. I have now finished all of calculus and am currently taking upper division math courses pursuing my math degree, after taking this course with ross I wrongly felt stupid and i thought i had no future in math...
Often late to class. He has zero focus when it comes to explaining lectures and many times he will talk about things in math 90 or higher levels that have nothing to do with what we were supposed to learn that day. This whole term I have felt like I'm trying to teach myself math and he is there to hand out quizzes and exams.
Ross is a bit of a jump around teacher, but very inspirational, very wiling to help-- he even give you his phone number so he's always available to help you, and he goes all the way up through higher levels so you can always have him. Best teacher I'ver ever had, to be honest.
Ross is the most caring teacher I have had at PCC. He is dedicated to his work and is eager to help students in and out of class. I would definitely recommend his class. I would also advice going to his office whenever you have a hard time grasping concepts, don't wait till last minute. If you take your work seriously enough, you'll do great!
Ross is very egotistical . He asks that you have the book but don't bother buying it as all he does is teach you why he thinks its wrong. Forget anything you may know about math because if you get your answer by any other method than his, he will mark it down. Ross was hands down the worst college professor I ever had the torment of taking.
Ross really loves math and it shows! He really cares about his students, is always available for help and has homework that sets you up for success.
Not clear lecture, when you ask a question he doesn't really answer it clearly or at all. Can't read what he writes on the board. Doesn't go over curriculum deeply or clearly enough. Feel rushed a lot of the time.
I had Ross for math 60. Nothing against the guy he just wasn't a good teacher for me. He gives out tons of HW each class. He doesn't really teach how how to do the work. He makes you read the book and learn it yourself then quizzes you on it. I wouldn't recommend him to anyone.
Went on tangents, never actually taught us anything on the test. Worst teacher ever, mostly it was just that his teaching style was not compatible with my learning style. And evidently that was the case for almost everyone else in the class (he would only teach you if you met up with him outside of class and even then it would be terrible).
Horrible teacher. I don't care the history of math which he constantly talks about. I want to learn the actual math. He makes us go online and do math on the computer. WTF. Not how i was taught and others agree its a horrible way to learn math. Told our class its a dictatorship and its his way or the highway. I think he has a serious control issue
Ross is a really nice guy, and genuinely cares about his students. He is also the worst math teacher I've had. Spent a lot of time telling stories and falling behind on material. Unprepared lectures, sloppy board work, and rigid grading. Weeks to return assignments, if ever. Makes constant references to MTH60, which he might be good at, not 253.
He talks a great deal and doesn't give specific examples of the test questions. Mostly, when you go to see him, you look stupid cause you don't know the material instead of him just helping you get to the answer. There is no study guide or quizes, and never gives the homework or any material back to review.
DO NOT TAKE ANY OF HIS CLASSES. PERIOD. Ross is Hands down the WORST teacher I've ever had in my entire life. Late constantly, weeks to receive papers back. It took two weeks to receive a grade back on mid terms. Poor feedback. Lectures are completely scatterbrained and unorganized. He will constantly tell you hes just a "dopey guy", forget it
Ross is a super nice dude, but he honestly just isn't talented at all when it comes to teaching. There's lots of homework (Webwork being the worst) and he grades kinda hard. I had to try really really hard to get my C to pass. Love him as a person, strongly dislike him as a teacher. get on his good side too. pretty sure he curved me cuz he liked me
I had a 4.0 GPA until this class. It was week 9 and I requested to talk on the phone about whether or not I should take the final (I assumed I had an F), we hadn't received ANY work back (quizzes every class, ungraded). He said he lost the quizzes, and grades would be assigned based on your level of effort through the term. Do NOT take this class.
Ross is a great person and he wants his students to succeed. The class is tough. If you want to get a good grade in his class, attend all classes, pay attention, and take good notes. Do the book homework, there is a lot but it will help you understand more. Don't bother with the Webwork. Is always available outside of class, can text him anytime.
Ross is a great person but an absolute terrible professor. On the other hand he is very helpful out of class. His notes are a complete mess. You will definitely be either spending your time in the tutor center or teaching yourself the material.
Dont take a class taught by him. Terrible professor. Shouldnt be teaching. Go to the tutoring center for help
Sure he gets disorganized from time to time and we are always falling behind, but it is because he takes the time to make sure the class really understands the material. If we had gotten one more week, we would have been caught up. Most in depth math teacher I have ever had and I appreciate him for it.
Ross is very disorganized and does NOT give clear instructions. He expects you to know a lot about the previous courses and expects you to be able to teach yourself on lessons he doesn't go over. His exam grading is extremely hard because one small mistake will cost a whole point. I would not take his class again.
Im not sure where all this bad feedback is coming from. I think he teaches a lot of prerequisite classes and people who dont want to take math are pumped through. Visit Ross in his office hours, and he will make any concept clear. Super passionate about his work.
Way too much homework and you wont learn anything IN class but beware of tests and quizzes. Class schedule is disorganized and unclear.
Do not take him!!!!Class is a lot of rambling and tangents about stuff that 'relates' to what we were 'being taught'. He hands out random papers and packets to fill out of stuff that he doesn't actually teach you. Online homework does not follow what is being taught in class. He is right tho, use your peers!!! I did all the work and struggled!!
If you want to pass your math class without understanding anything!!. TAKE HIM. he basically, wastes the class time talking about stuff that are not even on the test. He talked about things you don't need to know. For things you need to know you will study it on your own .
Ross is an absolutely disorganized mess of a teacher. Isnt clear about anything- lectures, grading, etc. Sets ridiculous expectations but clearly doesnt have any for himself. Goes off topic 90% of the class, very easy to get confused/fall behind. Math normally comes very easy to me, but not with this guy. Cannot stress enough to avoid his class.
Do not take this professors class.
Mountains of homework and tons of using the textbook, but genuinely funny and caring individual willing to 100% help you outside of class. Will tangent a ton, and is really disorganized, but he tells you upfront what he expects from the students and the class. Can be hard to follow along with, but I found the class engaging and fun.
Ross was a bit disorganized at times but he is a great instructor. He really knows how to break down complex concepts and is easily accessible outside of class. Do beware of the amount of HW he will assign, but just know its for your own learning. Def want to take him for higher level classes!
Ross is the best teacher I have ever had. He cares so much about his students, and somehow makes calculus riveting and philosophical. Hes so willing to work with you outside of class to improve your grade, and makes his expectations very clear!
Ross has a true passion for knowledge. Any student that actually aspires to understand math should take his class. He does teach fast but if you ask a question he is more than happy to make sure that you learn the material. Ross will give you his PERSONAL PHONE NUMBER. You can call or text him at any time with questions. Excellent instructor!
I only had math lab with Ross, but HAVE TO leave a review, because he is actually the best math teacher I have ever met. A lifelong math hater, I was extremely nervous walking into the lab. But Ross managed to help me understand everything by speaking my "language". It is thanks to him that I aced my MTH60 class this past term! Highly recommend!
I hate math! I used to hate math. Mr. Ross was such a pleasure and delight to have as a teacher. He really went out of his way to help me every week of the term. If teachers could give stickers, Mr. Ross would be that teacher. He really gave my confidence a major boost with the methods and suggestions he applied. You're going to love this teacher.
Don't take Ross for a math 20 course that's not required. He teaches and grades everything like he's teaching an advanced class for students who are trying to get like a master's degree or something else. He's a very nice guy though, but there's everyone's got a busy schedule and people are shy and won't always participate when they're struggling.
I'm surprised to see so many negative reviews on Ross. I took his class this last term. Yes he goes off topic and gets distracted. I loved him as a teacher though. I have never felt confident in math until learning from him. He is careful to go over in detail so that everyone understands. I'm taking another course from him this term, intentionally.
Ross said "Your way is the right way" for learning the math, but I still didn't understand his whole teaching method. Yes, Ross is a good professor by getting the whole class involved, and by making sure that we were in touch with our fellow classmates, yet it still didn't help. Not a required class and it should've been easy.
There are Pros and Cons to taking Ross. Pros: -Ross cares a lot about his students -He has good understand of the material -He's good at making things easy to understand Cons: -Very bad at managing class time -When I took the class, he did not submit most of the graded work -Often falls behing on the lesson plan, making it up to you to catch up
This class requires you to meet with him once a week very briefly to check in. There is no final. The only work for this class is the work that you do in ALEKS, a see paced program that is tailored to whatever math class that you are taking. You need to spend about 4 hours a week practicing in Aleks and you will pass the class.
ross did not start grading assignments until the last 3 weeks of the term. majority of the assignments for this course were graded on the final day for grades and given no feedback. do not take this class if not having a grade will stress you out.
Sticks to the text book and worksheets. Don't be afraid to ask questions! Some class work has you working with the people at your table.
Ross was quite helpful. He helped me review a test after I took it, and was very kind about it. He really wants his students to succeed.
Prior to taking this professors courses math was a subject that I not only dreaded but was not great in. He took the time to explain things to me in a way that I could understand. He cares immensely for each of his students and will go above and beyond to help you learn. All he asks is that you make the effort as well.
Ross cares a lot about his students, he wants everyone to succeed. However, teaching is not his strong suit. He constantly rambles all throughout class about random things and hardly ever teaches actual material. He tends to complicate simple concepts and questions almost never get answered. Prepare to be teaching yourself a lot.
Really nice guy, but has no idea how to teach. Would hardly review the material, never fully answer questions, and constantly talked about how he "can't spoon feed us answers because we to find it on our own." That's the whole point of teaching- to guide people! Never actually showed us how to do a problem, just showed us resources online.
The professor is a good guy, but he does not grade the work done in class, as it is important to know where you went wrong. He graded the midterm 4 weeks before the end of the term and that was the only grade until a week later he manually put in.
I have learned more from teachers on youtube than from my professor. Will spend all of your class time on desmos which you cannot use on tests or homework. Horrible handwriting that he cannot even read. Doesn't explain well at all. Might as well be a self taught class because his lack of teaching is extraordinary for his "20 years of experience".
It's currently finals week and he still hasn't graded anything. He doesn't answer emails and doesn't actually teach, he will sit at his desk the whole time, and when we ask him a question he'll start talking about something off-topic. The group project he assigned was a mess, there were no guidelines or rubrics for it, gave us no direction at all.
He never explains anything in class he just sits down to see his laptop and before clas is obligatory to complete the class prep that is basically some videos explaining the class instead of him and solve the rest of the problems with your work group but he does not explain a single topic and terrible organization.
Ross is an amazing teacher and one of few that really cares. He is always available via phone (even in the middle of the night he says) and is willing to help or answer questions about anything. I just stayed with him for 2 hours after class just to get some basic help on my exam-redo, if you take the class you'll know what I mean. Highly Recommend
If you're looking for structured lessons, don't take this professor. He just rambles all class about how much he cares about you & repeats the same thing ad nauseam. He's super nice and makes himself available to students outside of class, but how much of that could be avoided if he had taught properly in class in the first place?
The professor has a unique teaching style, but with the help of resources like unstuck study, the class is manageable. Attend lectures, use the free textbook, and you'll learn a lot.
10/10 would take again
He would make us grade our own papers, which we would have 4+ packets a week, and also spreadsheets and many other weekly assignments. During the class he would just talk about a bunch of irrelevant stuff. This was a group based class. I just wanted to learn and many of my class mates felt as if we had to teacher ourself outside of class.
Very kind and understanding just make sure you do the homework
Ross did not grade any of the work, besides the tests, until a few weeks after winter term ended. When my class discussed this with a substitute teacher, she said she would talk with him yet nothing changed. I believe this class was quite tough, and unfortunately do not recommend Ross.
Ross is the most difficult professors I've had and the reasoning is because he simply gets so lost in non-math related topics. he's trying to have fun but when he can't finish explaining how to solve something and goes on a 20 minute rant about how he's “dory the fish mixed with forest gump” it's stupid. Expectations are also left unknown.
Caring professor that takes lots of time to help students understand math in a way that can be tailored to the workings of their brain. He spends time going over each classwork. However he will sometimes spend too much time on one problem or with something not related to math like how to use Google. He has yet to grade anything at all & it's week 5
He may go off topic but, if you pay attention you'll do well and learn.
This teacher wasted 3 months of my life. I learned more from the tutoring center than in his class. He talks about desmos so much but we cannot even use it on the tests. What a waste of time.
Ross is a good professor overall but i would've learned the material better had Ross out the same homework material on the tests and pop quizzes. Same formulas and different numbers but not stuff that we haven't learned about in class.
Ross is a super nice funny guy as a person but he lacks staying on topic with the math material during class.
late to every class, makes sexual jokes/comments, doesn't grade anything all term rants about nothing for 2hrs and 20 mins should have been fired years ago also doesn't communicate
always late, the whole "giving his phone number to students" and "I will pull up to your nearest Starbucks in my pj's to help you" is just creepy. Genuinely scared of the guy. Hes passive aggressive and he talks about everything but math for 2 hours and the last 20 minutes he rushes over stuff. Hes alwasy trying to make himself seem childish, wierd
The instructor would always arrive 40 to an hour late every class. Much of the discussion focused on topics unrelated to math. No assignments were graded just shows N/A. Tests and assignments were hard nothing similar to the web work.He answers in a discouraging way rather than helping you understand. Lack of feedback, instruction, support.
