He's the man!!!! Take him!!! Just beware that he tests hard. You will have to do lots of work, like almost every problem in the book, but he is very adept at making hard concepts easy to grasp.
For a difficult course he makes it quite understandable. His laid back attitude makes the uptight world of chemistry not so frightening and actually quite interesting when you get it.Tests are difficult but he prepares you well. No tricks or surprizes.
Dr. Greenberg's class is difficult! Though generally nice and helpful at times, he has an ego, and puts the class down if they don't know something. Tests are extremely challenging. I'd try for another professor.

This guy is cool, and extremely bright....unfortunately we're not all like him....his test are EXTREMELY difficult...a chem major would fail them...he is still cool and teaches well...word to the wise READ THE DAMN CHAPTERS AHEAD!!
even tho he is exremely hard, he teaches his stuff very well, he knows his stuff well and knows how to present them to the class...definitely would take him again
put it this way- you won't find a better teacher for chemistry, but you won't find harder tests!
Tough. Very tough. You MUST study if you plan to survive chemistry. Doesn't allow T1-83 calculators on his tests, only the simple scientific calculators. Lectures are rather inconsistent - hops from the book to his own notes back & forth.
He is a great professor. He makes this class very interesting. He isn't a boring person at all. His personality makes a boring subject shine. He will test you hard to see if you know it or not. Do all the problems in the book, and youll get an A.
Hes amazing, very clear, exremely helpful and patient his tests arent a breeze but they're very fair he teaches everyting in lecture he's also very funny and great to chill with
Tests are very hard, but the final grade is fair.
he is very mean .class is boring..and tests are hard. but if you do a little struggle you can make it to a B...
If u can avoid taking this guys class i suggest it. For a freakin' introductory to chemistry this guy will bust ur *&(('s. Honestly, if u a book worm, have all the time in the world (Students who have a job and other hard classes avoid this)go ahead
fantastic...very clear, very helpful. anyone who does not like him just puts in absolutely no effort...chem is hard, deal with it.
a really GREAT professor, always willing to answer questions and explain the material.WARNING> his tests are EXTREMELEY DIFFICULT!!.this class is NOT a breeze but he definatly makes chemistry do-able.take this class if you're willing to work.
A truly gifted teacher! incredibly clear explanation of the material. Friendly, funny and always available after class to answer questions. When studying for exams focus on your NOTES. If your'e not a chem whiz you'll have to work hard - but its worth it!!
Very, very difficult! Had to take chem 113 twice (the first time with him). Tests are far more difficult than you think they'll be, and he does get a bit impatient when the class doesn't know something. He knows the material well, but doesn't teach it in a way that's very understandable.
He speaks English. He is just a fat guy carried away with himself.
best queens teacher ever. might not be the easiest, but thats not the point in life. after taking his class i can walk away and say "i learned much" AND "i had fun". hes a cool guy if u get to know him
Far and away the best chemistry teacher, period.
Great teacher. Difficult exams. procure previous exams and study them VERY WELL.
Very difficult and his exams are extremly difficult. To do good in this class you have to be dedicated or in other words not have a life nor a job. The class is boring too.
I took Gafney for 113 and he was definitely was a better lecturer (he has more experience.) If you can take Gafney, do, he gives out all his stuff and repeats. Greenberg wasn't bad however just don't take Mintzer for lab.
He is tough. His lectures are inconsistent. Somtimes, he teaches well, and somtimes he doesn't. He goes over stuff too fast. If you are too busy with other classes, Don't take him. His class makes you nut!!! He is not bad if you can spend 10 hours every week to study. And don't take Mintzer for lab, he is terrible!!!
What a wonderful intro to college chem! He is a great prof. and gives a good solid foundation of basic chemistry to build on in future classes. You do have to work hard, and tests are challenging, but once you get a feel for his style, they are manageable. Plus, he's a nice and funny guy and stays really late to answer q's after class.
The best professor for chemistry in QC, but also the hardest. He is the coolest professor, but you'll F*** up on the exams....
put it this way : you won't find a better chem teacher in queens college but you won't find harder chem tests either.
Horrible teacher. Was the main reason I switched my major AWAY from biology. Steer clear....
all iam gona say is... His Final Exam is like taking the SATs in French : (
He is a great professor that really knows his stuff inside out.Teaching style is great and he knows how to explain things. If I had the choice I would take him for as many Chemistry classes.Tests are not so easy but they are very predictable and they are mainly from the notes. If you know your notes you should be fine.He curves your final grade.
he's a great professor, but his exams are very hard, especially the final. He explains everything you need to know on the tests, but it's better if you don't talk much in class, because he seemed not to like people who raised their hands too much.
hard as hell. There is nothing in the world that can prepare you for his exams and espically his final exam.
Awesome teacher and a cool guy, also. If you can, try to get old exams of his to get a gague of what sort of problem you'll need to practice. Lots of problems and simple math, and he will sometimes put note questions directly on the test with different values, so pay attention and most of all keep up.
this is an amazing guy. i took chem over the summer... very intense, but well worth it. his tests, while difficult, are 100% doable, you just have to pay attention to details. i love his teaching style, and i suggest to anyone wanting to actually learn som
Amazing teacher, not too strict on the labs but wants you to know what you're doing. Explains things clearly and is always willing to answer any questions you may have. Really cares about his students understanding the material.
Bad Teacher. Always Behind 2 Weeks In Class and Later In Sem, You Have to Eat his Lectures To Catch AKA Half The Stuff You Will Not Be Able To Remember. Take Gafni If U Have to.
Funny guy, smart, great lecture, needs help making examine questions, leave out key info, test stuff not in lectures, and he knows how to bend truth to his advantage. Good professor but lacking as a person.
Great guy, tests are really hard, do lots of problems to study.
sucks so much!!, finals are mad hard, lectures are long and mostly boring, not avaible outside of class, does not respond to emails, tests are soo hard that nothing can prepare you for them. DON'T TAKE HIM!!!!!!!!!!
you are a very sexy man
To all of the previous students who badmouthed the best professor in queens college, its on your heads if students dont take this class and learn from the best overall professor and person in this college. This is a pre-health class, so dont expect to be able to cruise through. you will have to work, but if you make the effort you WILL learn.
Can't say he's great, but not bad either. Tests are brutal, seems to think everyone is a chem major. Drink lots of coffee or red bull before class -- his lectures are boring and long, and he tends to stretch them.
Tests are insanely difficult and seemed to be designed to weed people out of the course. He has a tendency to play favorites, so if you're the quiet type, you're in trouble.
Teaches as if you're only taking one class and have no job, grading seems to be based on whether he knows your name or not (all his "buddies" had higher grades, what a mystery). He's the only one teaching chem in the evening, and I can only register for evening courses, so I'm stuck.
He is hard as hell, but an excellent professor. Greenberg is gifted in making chem interesting. I've learned so much, and mastered how to work my but off to get a good grade. You are truly missed Greenberg. I wish there were more teachers like you. Just ease up on the exams (way too hard). If you want to learn take him, but you have to work!!
OVERRATED, unreasonably difficult exams, and very unfair. Thanks Dr.Greenberg for making my semester more enjoyable.
he is so cool
Read the fricking chapters before lecture. Exams are note based and he makes it clear on the first class. If he has to postpone an exam, he'll make it harder. Claims to give partial credit but this is NOT true. Grading is slightly - SLIGHTLY - based on who you are, so it helps to make yourself visible.
Best chem teacher in Queens. Take him if you can.
I think his tests are brutal because he's bitter that he doesn't teach higher level classes. He said a statement: "you definitely won't have me for organic chem" and I noted a trace of resent in his tone. Therefore, he needs to make a statement by giving unreasonably tough exams. The first test had physics questions!!!!
he was very clear and his tests were straight foward. its a hard class - so u need a good teacher otherwise ull be lost. definitely take him. hes a really nice guy and will helo u any way he can
What can I say? His tests are brutal, and lectures are long and tedious. However, he is an excellent professor. Chemistry is not meant to be easy. If you are debating whether to take him or another chem prof. you should take Greenberg. YOU WILL HAVE TO WORK HARD!!! If you are taking him, take him for lab and recitation as well.
He gives hard exams, but he gives very clear lectures... Chem is not an easy course. Always attend lectures & take a good set of notes. Try to get old exams, they help.
I agree he's an excellent professor, he knows what he's talking about but his test really need to tone down! About half of chemistry is memorizing formulas and concepts, but he designs his tests in a way that forces you to UNDERSTAND, not memorize. Get ready to work hard if you register for his course.
Great teacher, loved his teaching style, very friendly, funny, great rapport with students. I was a serious student and did well, but you must study for the tests. Open to questions, will stay later if you have questions for him. Highly recommended if you're serious.
He makes the concepts very clear. His test questions embody the concepts that he taught in the class. They can be tricky. He uses the book as a guide. He wont teach u something that is not in the book. I did all the questions in the book; they get u used to the material but his q's on tests are not testing one concept but more than one concept.
Hate to sound harsh, but most of these reviews were probably written by him, or maybe his nephews or something.....If you are NOT a chem major, avoid him. His exams are clearly designed for chem majors. I understand his desire to challenge, and that's fine, but his tests require you to have no life. There's my 2 cents.
big madari, take him if you wanna see hell, he sucks
he is the best teacher EVER!!! he might give hard tests but he ROX....DUH~~~~!!!!!!! BTE (BEST TEACHER EVA!!!)
He teaches well and he knows what he is taliking about. However, his tests can be very tircky. In order to do well, I suggest reading the book and doing the questions of each chapter before you go to lecture.
Wonderful, Explain everything very well. But need to work hard for his exams. This is not the class where u never showup and end with an A. Have to know whats going on in the class. His Lectures are helpful and recitation prepares u for tests.

If you want to make yourself miserable then take the class because thats exactly what u will get from him...misery. His exams are hard as hell...and it wont be much help to you even if u study ur ass off as he doesnt even consider much when it comes to his exams. If you have a choice then avoid this professor and take another one!!...horrible!!!!!!
There about two good coments about Mr. GReenberg , it wont suprise me if he is writing these coments himself. Just as his name implies he is too green to be teaching chemistry in the first place. has no life and tortures his students for it. Just bec u r a genius when it comes to chemistry doesnt mean ur introduction to general che students should
omg....he is horrible. he teaches from his head: hardly used and/or refers to textbook. his test are crazy. goodluck
Really good teacher. Explains all topics clearly. You have to take really good notes in class. important that you go to lecture most ques on exam based on problem from class. Also try to do all the online hw questions theyre really good practice for the exams. Work hard and you can do well in his class

the worst professor to hit the lecture hall of Queens College. Ruined my GPA, helped me totally lose interest in Chem. Nice comments r written by Mr. Green hands down
he is the worst prof. i have ever had....he promise to give enough time on the exam but he didn't do.....he gave us 4 pages to do in only hour and half ..heis horrible....don't take him attt allllllllll
He's a great professor. Chem is hard and he did his part in teaching and explaining the tough subject. I think the people who dropped class early didn't expect chem to be as hard and unjustly blamed it on the Prof. He was thorough in his lectures and always willing to answer more questions. I did much better here than in high school chem!
His lecture was really good. BUT not helpful @ all. His exams were extremely hard. The lecture did not help at all. If you want to do well it's recommended that you take his lab section. Other than that, Good Luck! Take at your own risk
He's a great guy. People seem to lash at him because they don't want to do the work that comes with taking such a course! His exams come directly from the problems he goes over in class. Not an Easy A, but then again, if thats what you're looking for, don't take the class....
What can i say?? People simply fear his exams. He is one of the best lecturers in QC and his tests while are hard but there is no surprises on it. However, he loves to trick people with convertion factors. More than not on his test you will have to convert something
this guy cant teach for his life. he just keeps writing on the board and moving it up and down and left and right. it is a very difficult subject but taking it with him is a guaranteed F-. He doesnt care about students and his tests are like rocket science exams. he seems nice but dont be fooled. you will learn nothing from him.
The hardest professor I've ever had! Im sorry but he needs to be a little more lenient with his students. He probably thinks his students are studying at a graduate level. In order to do well in his class you need to be reviewing 24/7. If you're gonna take his class be ready to eat and sleep chemistry.
Best prof. I ever had in my life. I wish all the professors at QC were like him. He makes the three hour class go really fast. Umm if you want an A in this class it is possible, you just have to study really hard and be wise to read the text book before you go to lecture...I would take another chem course with him. Dr Greenberg you're the man!!!!!
Well Dr.Greenberg is really cool and yes he does help you a lot. He stays after the lecture to answer any questions. Overall tough class, but he makes it manageable...Not an easy A however, worth taking this class because you do learn a lot...Note: stop bad mouthing this professor because you're discouraging students to not take this class!!!!!!!!!
Nice guy, very brilliant and approachable. Taking him as the lab instructor is strongly recommended; he'll give you tips, however, I find this unfair, because the TA's for the other labs are oftn clueless -- but you can't blame Greenberg for this, but rather QC
takes too many cigarette breaks. not sure what to follow, the textbook, hw or ckass - they don't all agree. somewhat condescending when answering questions. recitations are helpful if you make them to be. would be much better if he planned out his lesson and payed any attention to the hw/textbook (i doubt he's reviewed either in years.)
Greenberg is amazing, hes open to help you with problems and I would recommend STRONGLY taking the class with his for lab and rec. He also has a way of explaining things in a manageable way in which non science buffs are able to make sense of. All this is worthless though if you do not attend his class. DO take notes, its all in his notes!!!
Prof Greenberg is the best Chem professor in Queens College. Explains everything clearly and if you have a problem he explain it until you understand it. His test are as straight foward as possible and if you study its a A. But don't expect to never come to class, don't buy the book and get a A Its Chemistry so you need to study.
In true honesty his class is difficult but very manageable. If u study you will be rewarded in the end, and satisfied with your grade. i got a B-
he's awesome. he explained everything really well and if you had any questions all u have to do is stick around after lecture and he will answer it, even solve problems. If u have him for lab and rec its even better bc its like your your own private tutor. i totally recommend his class. not easy def have to read n attend class.
He knows what he is teaching and can explain the problems clearly. His test is not that easy but if you study his notes, you will find if helpful. Because his tests were difficult, the final was much easier than his test, I couldn't solve the easy problem. However, I still got A. I also take his 114. Just work hard, u will get ur rewards.
Dr. Greenberg tries his best to break it down & help you understand He is very good at answering questions and explaining. Problems in class are on the tests. He expects you to understand the material, his tests are borderline sadistic & might be considered a form of torture, but if you study and practice you should do well
The only way to pass his class is if u eat, breath n sleep chem. This is a must for chem majors but for the avg ppl it will damage GPA. His tests are too difficult; u got to know the material inside out. Of all the chem prof. hes the "best" choice. Totally ruined my GPA. He needs to b more flexible n understand that not everybody is a chem major.
GREENBERG IS THE BEST CHEM PROF!!!! i really dont kno what people are saying here, he cant possibly be more clear than he is. his lecture notes are very manageable and he can answer any question u have. this isnt gym folks, u have to study for chem. def take him bc u wont find anyone better. he makes as less stressful as possible
I'm currently taking his class for chem 113. He is amazing, best teacher i have ever had by far. Teaching style defines what teaching is meant to be; almost an art form for him. Brings humor to class, is leinlent enough, but fair. Do your hw asap, keep up with lectures and your golden. "The Berg", he's the man. William Wallace...
I don't know what do say... My personal opinion of him isn't the best. I didn't feel like he was very approachable and his test are insanely hard but the fact is the man can teach very well.
Prof. Greenberg is very humorous and clarifies the lecture. BUT, his exams so far are difficult. I'm not kidding. For the first exam, you can memorize and comprehend the first 3 chapters and that still will not help you ace his exam. The questions he puts on his exam are physically torture. I felt like giving him back the test as soon as i got it.
His tests are horrible. Everything he discusses on lecture are not on the exam. The questions he puts for the exam are extremely difficult, he needs to go over some questions that might be on the exam or else people will continue failing his class.
He needs to curve his exams by 10-15 points. Everyone in the last class did poor on his exams. Almost everyone took at least 2 hours for the first exam, even though we were given an hour. The questions for the exam are crazy, even though not everyone is a chem. major he teaches like everyone is, even then it is difficult. Lighten up on the exams.
He's a good lecturer but his tests are exremely hard. His test has nothing to do with this lecture. you can memorize and do problems til you turn blue but you still will find this test HARD.
if u wanna learn chem, this is who to choose, ya his tests arent crazy easy but if you pay attention to his lecture and practic chem everyday you'll do fine. chemistry 113 is not 10th grade chem, its alotta work so know what ure getitng urself into
He is very funny and helpful. Answers all your questions. Lectures are helpful. You would think his test might be easy. They are not, they are complicated even if you memorize the whole book. Overall you would learn alot in his class. Take him if you want to learn something. Very serious with his work.
This professor is well-known for having difficult exams, in which half the class fails. There are several people taking the class for the third time and still failing his class. This says a lot about the professor. If you take him, don't take him at Queens College, but at St. Johns in which he gives a 30 point curve and has multiple choice.
He is a great teacher, and explains everything very clearly, but his tests ARE MURDER!!! They are so hard you walk out of the room discombobulated! It is his goal to make every SINGLE question on the test as tricky and difficult as possible. The onlt way to do well is to study off of old tests. He is still a nice teacher.
He is a good professor but if you dont study you wont do well. His gives 3 tests and a final, plus online HW with over a week to do it. He teaches you not only to memorize but to understand that material and the concepts. As long as you understand the concepts and practice questions, you should do well on the tests
excellent professor, test are very hard though.....too hard. if you dont study dont bother taking his class; in fact, just dont take any chemistry class
Great professor! But you have to study that's the only way you can pass.
Unless you are taking him in st johns, dont plan on a decent grade. Unfair grader and malicious teacher in queens college that is.
If you already know chemistry very well, then I guess he is an okay professor. He makes something that seems so easy difficult and hard to understand. If you ask him a question he looks at you like you are stupid, but then why is he a professor? No interest in helping your grade.
First and foremost, professor Greenberg is a really hot guy, even though he is getting old he still got it. Secondly, Tests are somewhat challenging, but if you actually put time into studying and use your brain for a change you can pull off an A. Thirdly, it should be noted that professor Greenberg is NOT heavier than Evans, she is fatter by far.
Greenberg's exams are difficult if you don't attend class, do the WebAssign or study. They are otherwise fair assessments of what he has taught in lecture. While he doesn't have office hours, if you approach him before or after class he will help you out. He's a cool dude.
there is a saying about his exams .. the 1st test will crush u , the 2nd will kill u, & the 3rd will just bury u .. his exams are insanely difficult .. half the class is retakin chem 113 thanks to him . he makes chem 113 twice as harder then it is
Very sexy man. Take him.
This professor is the opposite of hot, just sayin. if u r not already a genius in chemistry, don't expect higher than a B in his class. this is not my opinion, just a FACT. after 2 yrs experience with this man, trust me I KNOWWW
Contrary to popular belief, Greenberg's exams are fair and do test you on what you learn in class, find in the textbook, and work out in the homework problems. With that being said, if you do not attend class, read the textbook, or do any of the WebAssign, you will not do well in this class! He is also more approachable than you think.
He is a wonderful professor. His lecture are very helpful and clear. He is the one who build crsytal clear concept about chemistry. exams are fair. He ask question what ever he teach in class.
His test is insanely hard. I have never study so hard for one class before. I am seriously thinking of changing my major because of his test. His lectures are good, but it is just his test that are a killer.
This is a real teacher he actually teaches you the subject at hand. His test are hard but your not taking this class for an easy A elective. If you work and go to his lectures youll learn a lot. Study, study study for his test though
He's a great professor, gives great notes. But his exams are BRUTAL. The ACS compared to his exams is nothing more than a joke. If you're planning on taking his class, be prepared for extremely low test grades. Sometimes studying for two weeks doesn't even get you more than a 65. Reading and understanding the textbook is VITAL. extremely difficult material but he does it justice during lecture. ASK QUESTIONS!! he never makes anyone feel stupid even if it's a simple question.
Greenberg is one of the chem best professors at QC. his lectures are amazing and you will learn a lot form him. he is not easy his test are really hard but this is chemistry. if u study study study then u should do well. it helps to read the chapters before class. ask questions he is always willing to help. and the ACS final u will find easier.
Definitely a class that you have to do work for, many ppl come into class not expecting to work and they will get a 6 on their first test. The class was cut in half after the first test because more than half the class failed. I did well but only with hard work. He says that his tests are fair bc they are, but this does not mean that they're easy.
Honestly, He teaches chemistry very well but his tests are ridiculous..I mean you teach a general chem class. get over yourself...its best if you register for Gochonour's class and attend Greenberg's lectures.
first off all let me tell you now that this man is highly over-rated. his lectures aren't as great as people say them to be, sometimes he's not very clear and mumbles. his test are dead hard and his lectures don't do much to help you study for them. only way you will pass if you solve EVERY single question in the textbook at the end of chapters.
I'm doing general chem MCAT prep right now and it's like Greenbergs right next to me, guiding me, telling me all the right answers in my ear, encouraging me. Kind of like Baby Jesus, or my fairy godmother. Hes sitting right on my couch with a lit up cigarette in his mouth...like a real highroler. He's a total baller. Take him!
This professor teaches well, lectures are very comprehensible but tests are MURDER. you could understand the material and fail the tests. NOT OK. really its better to take a teacher who doesn't start the first day of class by saying most people will fail.
Prof. greenberg is one of the worse professor ever. He gives 3 long class tests and the time line is very short compare to the questions. He classes are not that helpful and i will advise other students try to avoid this professor for this course.
Overall, I must say that he is one of the best Chemistry professors I've taken. In any science class a teacher has to the bridge the gap between two subjects: Science and English. Most teachers are terrible at this art, however Greenberg has mastered it. He does a great job at communicating scientific principles and is very easy to understand.
You can understand the material in and out and study from DAY 1... and recieve a 12/100 on the exam.
one of the best lecturers but test will murder u
Greenberg teaches well, but his tests are Hard!!! even if you do problems from the back of the book, and webassign problems (like he said), still can't reach a good grade :(
Chemistry is not an easy subject but Greenberg is amazing at teaching it!!!! He writes everything out on the board, answers questions, and is very clear...not to mention he is really funny....You can't come into this class and expect not to work but it is doable. Take Greenberg, he is the best professor!
I had him for Chem 113 and I wanted to take him again for Chem 114. He is the best option for general Chem, in my opinion. He covers everything that you need to know for his tests and prepares you pretty well for the ACS final. Attendance is highly recommended-he likes to see that you care. Tests are very predictable but you have to know your stuff
Terrible professor. Will make anyone lose interest in the subject [even chem professors] If you want to feel like a failure for the rest of your time in college, by all means take him.
Fantastic professor, explains everything clearly, wants everyone to succeed, but with one caveat: his exams are a living nightmare.
When I read the previous comments, I thought this would be a very difficult class especially to take over the summer. But it wasnt! Exams are a little difficult but, everything is predictable! Practice problems from web assign, class and from the end of the chapter. Prof. Greenberg gives great lectures which really helped me understand the chap
Prof Greenberg is a great teacher. He honestly taught the material very well! Yes the tests were harder then usual but they were fair because there were no surprises- plus we were so prepared for the ACS final as a result.Taking him for summer was really challenging however its chemistry what can you do-great class overall!
So I had him for 113 and will have him again for 114 since it's the only section that was open. He's a pretty good professor, but tests are long and difficult. I'm nervous because I have a pretty hectic schedule this time around. You need to show up to EVERY class because he only writes notes on the board. I suppose it could be worse
I would take someone else if you can.
He's a "chalk and talk" lecturer, which was great. He gives very extensive and organized notes to study from. His tests are long, but reflect the examples he puts on the board and the webassign questions exactly. He's straightforward, so just write down everything and study hard. He's a surprisingly lenient test grader; remember to show all your work!
All the people that complained are the people that dont belong in pre-med. He is an amazing professor, you just need to take good notes and study it. I took the DAT and he was the one science professor that actually thought the material well and had me prepared. If you want to learn take him!
This man, simply put, is a genius. Never has someone else caused my fascination to be so captivated and never has anyone taught me better, finer or more... even my own father. I would give the man my kidney if he ever needed one. That is what I think of Dr.Greenberg.
Do not take this professor if you want to maintain your GPA. He curves because most students in his class do not understand the course and did horriable. His handwritting is hard to read. Also people who commented saying that he is great teacher are the ones who probably got a c without the curve and got an A with massive amount of curved points.
Don't listen to the lazy students who except to magically get an A in this class without putting any effort. Greenberg is essential if you want a solid foundation of chem. Excellent Professor who teaches so well and makes it so clear. Work hard and put in a lot of effort. WEBASSIGN, TAKE AWESOME NOTES, PRACTICE CLASS EXAMS = A.
I must agree with some of the students on her, when a professor begins his opening lecture stating that no one has ever received a 100 in my course and that you will more than likely fail this course than i think there is a problem here. He teaches the course and explains concepts to the students as if they already understand chemistry. Very poor
WARNING: DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS.
Pay attention and take notes. If you have an inkling of interest in chemistry, he'll enrich it. Thinks outside the box. Very helpful and humorous.
Nice guy but brutal exams. Will make you work very hard to get a decent grade of B. Despite it being a general chem class, you need to devote a lot of time to this class. Not lenient with grading. Also disorganized. Overall, nice professor but be warned. He's an expert in his field and expects the same knowledge from students. You've been warned.
Never comes to class on time, cuts class early, disappears for 30 mins during lectures and cancels class for no reason. You fall so far behind you can't keep up with labs. He decides to make midterm the day you return from spring break cause you have to catch up. You suffer due to his laziness. You'll never know your grade, he doesn't return exams!
Ross Greenberg is the most interesting man in the world. He's intellectually stimulating and thrives off of trying to make us excel in his class…I only received a B in his class, but his class will forever go down as undoubtedly the most intense/interesting class in my life. He's the man, like…you can see his whole life in his eyes…idk
He is extremely knowledgable, anyone can tell but he cancelled class way too much putting the whole class behind. No one knows exactly how they are doing in the class bc he never hands back the tests! and the tests are pretty hard but all based on what he taught in class...
He's an excellent teacher, take notes during lecture. Seems like a nice man. Only issue is that he doesn't hand back exams. and comes in late a lot. He's definitely one of the better chem professors for 114.
An excellent professor. Good natured. Helps make all concepts easy to understand. Take good notes, go over lots of problems and you should do fine on the tests.
This guy's test are beyond difficult. Like you feel you know the material and then his test just blows your mind. Like literally the only girl to pass took the class already and her MCATs and is just repeating the class to do better on her MCATs. His examinations are literally why kids commit suicide in college. Way too difficult. geta diffrnt prof
Dr Greenberg has the ability to be an amazing professor, I took him Spring2014; after a personal issue he stopped teaching & I am still fighting about a grade & the lack of communication not only from him but the entire department. I am truly disappointed in his lack of respect for the students and the dept lack of attention.
I changed my career path after I was forced to drop this class because I realized that I'd never be able to pass this class. Greenberg expects all of his students to be chemists, yet he can't even grade his exams in a timely fashion. I find it disturbing that Queens College continues to pay this man. Take Chem at another CUNY if you can.
Greenberg pretty much gave up on our recitation class. After 3 weeks, he was replaced because he couldn't get the hang of the hybrid class. He taught us a section pretty clearly but it went downhill from there. we had to beg for his help, and he would deny. He was 30 mins late to the 3 classes he attended and disappeared for most of the time. Fail
Aced 113 and 114 with him a couple years back, liked him a lot *BUT* recently he has been having personal issues and is no longer able to keep up with his class (speaking from a second hand perspective). As a result his students are failing miserably and have trouble getting a hold of him for help. BEWARE. Advice- 113 Strekas, 114 Altman.
Greenberg is a great professor. His lectures are super clear. His text are EXACTLY what was done in class, but they are very long so you have to practice the problems a lot so you don't take too long on the exams. Textbook was not needed but he gave a lot of practice questions from the text, which helped. memorize and study a week before exam!!!
Greenberg is the man! Hes very clear and can clarify the most diffcult topics. Everything he writes on the board is very similar to his test. I am not an honors student or was not one in highschool and I ended up doing pretty well in his class, just because of all the info he gives you in class. TRUST ME, Altman will make your life worse.
Dr. Greenberg is good at explaining very complex concepts. However, his exams are from out of this world and aren't intended for undergraduates. He's impossible to meet or speak with outside of class and will come to class about 30-45mins late. If you're not a Chemist looking to miss up the curve in an undergrad class DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!
Amazingly clear lectures. Taking good notes is absolutely critical in this class. Tests are hard but are usually based off the example problems that are done in class. Start studying great notes in advance and you will be ok.
I am going to go complain to the chem department.
His exams are the equivalent of running a marathon and aren't intended for undergradute students. You're best option is to swap or drop. If it's too late I strongly suggest that you invest in a tutor and look for old exams. Greenberg doesn't interact with students outside of class, he's always late and teaches whatever he wants. DO NOT TAKE HIM!
Professor Greenberg is one of the best professors at QC. His knowledge of chemistry is astounding and he knows it inside out. He explains every topic clearly and wont confuse you. Tests are hard but you have to work for it. He is also very nice and there for you. Focus in class and sit in the front and you will get that A :)
Professor Greenberg is great at explaining difficult concepts. HOWEVER, he is irresponsible. He actually forgot the date our exam was scheduled for, and did not have a test written for us! Also, he is an extremely harsh grader. Do NOT take him if you can help it.
Take him for lab! Make sure you hand in all your lab reports and you got yourself an A. Doesn't even grade them. No quizzes which is huge! Lab reports are easy. He just wants your calculations and a brief intro and conclusion. EASY
Professor Greenberg is great at teaching chemistry, he explains concepts with ease. HOWEVER, he is very unorganized and rather lazy. Although he is nice and funny, he would jump around from topic to topic and hand back exams late. I also had to do a lot of self teaching in order to get the grade I got. I wouldn't exactly take his class again.
He is by far the worst prof in the world. His exams are by far impossible. The rescitation instructor couldn't even do the problems he gave on the exam. Do whatever you have in your power to not take him. He doesn't follow the book, he's never available to meet. It's worth it to wait another semester to take it with a dif prof.
Greenberg can make your mind spin.... He is a very detailed teacher be aware of all his class examples those will be on the test. If I was to redo the class I would have sat on the first row, gotten a winter coat and for tests time yourself too many queestions or too long to solve. He makes good scoring difficult. If u want hardship take him.
Solid teacher, got a C+ and I barely showed up for class. His first two exams are somewhat harder than the final, which is given through then ACS. With some put aside studying time and some prior knowledge in Chem I couldn't imagine an A+ being so far out of each for a more motivated student
Dont take this class
Dr. Greenberg is old school. There are no powerpoints, He lectures, writes on the board, and speaks. You need the textbook, and you need to put in the effort to pass. If you're looking for easy, take someone else. If you want to learn chemistry from the ground up in detail, this is your man. A+, would take again. Very funny.
Never has chemistry been so difficult and confusing ever. If he does not have the textbook with him, or even if he does, he does not follow it & teaches what he feels like. He will put things on the exam that he does not go over in lecture. If this is your 1st chem course, a tutor might be your friend. The online HW is nothing like his lecture/exam
I took this class several years ago in college, and recently i have come across some of my old chem notes and got horrible flashbacks of this class. This class will forever be one of the worst experiences of my life.
If you want to take him for Chem 1131 lab, he's not a bad choice. He doesn't give back any of the lab reports and I'm pretty sure he doesn't even read them but as long as you showed up to class and did the lab reports you basically got an A or an A-. He never gives quizzes and always disappears for 30 minutes during lab time. Simple lab instructor.
Did not explain things well and exams were really tough. Rushed through material and lectures felt very disorganized.
He's not a bad professor. He just needs to chill out and make his tests easier. Theres another professor that teaches currently as well and has much easier tests, and counts the homework as extra credit. In that sense, this class is much more difficult. Again, not a bad teacher but really needs to know that his students are trying their best.
The other teacher that is teaching over the summer told their students that homework was extra credit, and also got a formula sheet to use for the test. This professor makes you memorize every equation and doesn't give extra credit. Not a bad professor, just doesn't care much about his students grades and isn't willing to help out.
Professor Greenberg is a teacher who teaches a tough course. He covers all topics that are on the test in lecture. Take good notes. Good notes are the key to passing. The examples he gives in class are the type he gives on test. His tests are very challenging. Be Prepared. He takes a break in class, accessible for questions then and after class.
I took Professor Greenberg over the summer and it was overall a good experience. His class integrates his lectures with the textbook reading! I liked that you can revisit the textbook and really understand the textbook after the lectures at a deeper level. Makes good analogies to help you understand. Lectures are well thought out and prepared!
No power points, no leeways, just straightforward old school teaching. He isn't a bad teacher in terms of knowing his material and teaching it but I found the course to be really tough. He also doesn't answer his email or phone.
The absolute worst! His disregard for student's work and concerns is despicable. Doesn't even bother to update students on their progress. Sometimes forgets to communicate the date for next quiz, and you get informed two days before on blackboard. His notes all disorderly. Fun person to grab a beer with, not to grab education.
Absolutely brilliant. Can be tough but he single handedly taught me all of the practical applications for each topic. I wouldn't have been able to pass without his help.
DO NOT TAKE!!! This man is a horrible professor He is Lazy Unreachable & Bitter Altogether just simply not someone you would want to spend any time with, let alone have as a teacher He didnt put any effort into the class and had an extremely unclear grading criteria Its sad that qc still employs this man in spite of the numerous complaints.
Had him for Chem 113 recitation. He was one of the best Professors I had so far. If you really want to learn chemistry than take him. He explains the contents really well. Just need to speak up and ask questions.
Since the first day I met this Professor I knew for the very first moment that he was going to be a nightmare. The first day of class he started by saying "I'm chalk and talk" and yes he never used PP & never spent time introducing a topic, instead he went straight to work problems. He never stood up in class instead he rolled his chair worst Prof.
Funny guy. Lectures are clear and to the point. Show up, pay attention and you'll pass. Most people seem to instantly turn on him the second he makes a joke that even the slightest hint not "politically correct", then proceed to come on here and flame his teaching ability. Do not let this fool you. He's an awesome professor.
Enjoyed his lectrs tremendously, had lots of fun. This isn't a class you pass without studying your butt off,he grades you by your knowledge, not by what grade you want. He is fair in many ways than people give him credit for. He's tests are no piece of cake, but they have no surprises. You gotta understand the material. I'd take him again if I could.
He is okay when it comes to teaching the material but sometimes he goes too fast. But he is available after class to answer any questions. However, his tests are pretty difficult. The short answers. Make sure you study a week or 2 weeks ahead. The ACS final is way easier than his tests and its cumulative. I wouldn't take him again though by choice.
To add to my previous comment, some questions on the chem 113 ACS exam were not covered during lectures. Not sure who to blame for this. Somehow we ran out of time and Professor did rush through the material in last two lectures. His time management should be modified. Besides that he is a good lecturer.
Dr. Greenberg teaches well. He is a cool lab professor. Chem 101.1 isn't an easy course. Make sure to observe all safety precautions when in the lab - not only is this for your own benefit, but he will grade partially on that basis. The final exam is difficult. Make sure to study hard for it and attend each and every lab.
Doesn't do PowerPoints so it's hard to keep up with the notes. Most of his lectures are oral and he speaks fast so it's hard to get everything down in my notes. Tests aren't too hard just got to study real good. Funny and makes his lectures entertaining sometimes. Grades are only based off of 3 tests and Aleks
He's horrible. I have him for lecture and all he does is talk. He uses the board once in a blue moon. I'm taking him right now Spring 2019 and I regret it so much. He likes to cold call, very lazy. Talks a lot about his urges to smoke. Doesn't teach well at all!! His tests are extremely difficult and he said that we should have read the textbook.
I wonder how he has good ratings, because he is such an awful professor. I had him for chem lecture and lab, he was so rude and always went on cigarette breaks during our lab. He doesnt truly care for his students at all. Beware Im telling you, you will have a hard time trying to pass this guys class, this class put me in tears weekly b/c of him
His lecture is him talking extremely fast and is confused and angry when 80% of the class fails. I am a biology major and am good at most sciences but he makes everything so unclear. He barely uses the white board, and when he does it is so unclear. Tests are long and difficult, as well as it being a hard course. Do not take his class.
Do not take his class! He talks really fast and writes really small and ineligible. He doesn't allow voice recording or taking pictures of the board. When most of the class fails, he blames us and gets angry even though, he doesn't provide any study sheet or review session. He doesn't care for his students and the tests are extremely hard.
Come to class everyday. Be prepared to take a lot of notes. Write down everything he says. Study only your notes and redo problems he gives you in class. Those problems WILL show up on your tests. He WILL test you on small nuances. The textbook will fall to the wayside so use it as a review. Your notes are your textbook. Funny dude though.
Professor Greenberg is an amazing teacher. He is able to explain the material very well and clearly. His tests are straight from his lectures and if you take good notes and practice problems on your own then you'll get an A. If you want to learn chemistry well and put in some effort for your grade, this is the professor to take!
PLEASE LISTEN TO ME AND DO NOT TAKE HIM UNLESS YOU WANT TO RUIN YOUR LIFE. Save yourself from the embarrassment. Taking his class was the worst decision of my life. His lecturing is so slow that at the end of the semester we did a cram sesh and finished the four hardest topics in two weeks. He does not know how to grade. DO NOT TAKE HIM.
You need to go to class and copy down everything he writes on the board. He does not use slides nor does he left you take pictures of the board or audio record. His tests are almost exactly the same as questions he gives in class so just pay attention.
AMAZING LECTURES!!! Such an easy class. The test is literally in the textbook.
I don't even know where to begin. Such an amazing professor. Makes you enjoy learning chemistry he will do anything in his power to help you understand chemistry. Tests come right from the textbook so make sure the textbook is your best friend while taking the class. After taking his class I decided to major in chemistry. TAKE HIM!!!!!!!!
Horrible professor. More than half the class will fail. Doesnt post slides, just talks all class and repeats himself. Only graded on 2 tests and the final. Takes weeks to return tests. Hard grader.
He does not know how to teach. Does not give extra credit. Look for someone else teaching this class.
Pretty funny guy but He's the worst chemistry teacher ever, yeah he cares and he is nice but he sucks at teaching. The lectures are just a mess, jumping from topic to topic each one. He makes Chem seem 10 times harder. Doesn't even give you a study guide! We asked what we should focus on to study for the test and he said "eVeRyThInG iS fAir GaMe."
nothing to say....
Greenberg makes chemistry harder than it should be no matter how much you study its hard to do well in his class. will go over a topic in last 10 mins of the class and will expect you to know everything about it. also, he rushes over important topics and ASSUMES you know the stuff. queens college needs better chem professors. very disappointed.
As a 100 level class, Dr. Greenberg gave me more ptsd than a war veteran, everytime I study for this class I start crying and considering whether or not its worth it to keep going through this hell. He teaches the class verbally (topic is said verbally no slideshows very few things written on the board) and jumps from topic to topic.
No one can see what he's writing on the board and when the marker runs out of ink he continues to write with it. He's a good person but his lectures are hard to follow when you can barely read the board sometimes. If you take him just make sure you review the material well before class. He just reviews it and his exams are not easy.
Tests are so hard. He doesnt seem approachable at all. Do not take.
His tests are really hard ACS final is easier than his tests doesnt really curve or drops the lowest grade i wish he cared more. he blames on students to read the textbook but is very unprepared on his part, cursive writing maker out of ink he could atleast curve because one C- can ruin your gpa!
His exams are harder than the ACS final. To pass this class, you have to work very hard and study as much as you can. Greenberg is a funny guy and knows what he's talking about. Sometimes it's easy to get confused in lecture, but if you ask him a question he will clarify it. Read the textbook before lecture and it'll minimize any confusion.
AMAZING lectures. All you need to do is study.
There is nothing good about his class. He refuses to adapt to with technology. No slides, no study guides, and he makes the tests excruciating. Drop this class ASAP! You'll thank me later. There are other Professors that are better, and really care about their students. Chemistry is difficult already, no need to have the worst professor on campus.
He's awful. I killed myself studying for this class, and he makes it impossible to do well. Even if you understand the concept, his tests make everything 10x harder. I wished I had checked Rate My Professor before it was too late.
His lectures are useless for his tests. I usually don't even rate professors but he doesn't care for his students. Worst professor I've ever had. His tests are ridiculous. He uses the class for his ego on how he knows how to play around with numbers. DON'T TAKE HIM AVOID AT ALL COSTS!
I studied so hard for this class and still ended up with a C- He gives 3 exams and a final and aleks hw. His exams are so difficult people end up with 0 on the test. His tests are a mixture of multiple-choice and written response questions. I highly recommend NOT to take this prof or your GPA will be destroyed.
Professor Greenberg is the kind of professor that no matter how much you put in you will not succeed. He gives hours upon hours of homework and it is on material that you have not yet learned. His class is basic chemistry, yet, it is harder than general chem. Do yourself a service and stay far away. You will regret taking his class.
DO-NOT-SIGN-UP-FOR-HIS-CLASS. We didn't know what to study for when it came to the tests. I thought the lectures would be like the tests but they were not. What he gave on the tests no one would've imagined to study for. The class avg on tests would be 30 out of 100, the final is more practical than his tests. YOU WILL DO POORLY IN THIS CLASS.
this was for lab! i don't understand how he doesn't have a lower overall rating. he would explain certain concepts that he KNEW we didn't go over in lecture, but then expect us to know the answers or definitions of certain ideas. he barely prepared for lab and didn't even know what we were doing and asked a student for their lab report the day of
One of the worst professors I've ever had. Greenberg is rude and disrespectful towards his students. Unresponsive to his emails. Exams are gruesome! The amount of time I spent studying for this class, does not at all reflect my grade on the exams. Please stay away at all costs!
I thought I was going to fail. I failed two exams but passed the final and only did a little bit of homework. He overlooked the other grades and only counted the final. But it's because he knows how messed up his exams are. I used to pray for something to happen to me so I wouldn't have to see his face again.
Chemistry is really hard but professor Greenberg makes it a lot better. His jokes lighten the mood. He's a little rough around the edges and his tests are really hard. You have to go to class to pass, overall it was a pleasure.
Your grades depend on his exams. So if you want to pass study ALL his classwork examples and dont overlook anything. If you think he wont put something on the exam chances are he has like 10 questions on it already. Come to class, take notes, and study everyday. Youll pass but youll probably cry on the way.
During this trying time of the epidemic, professor Greenburg showed great concern for his students, trying to help the students in every way possible. He may be strict but he wants us to be determined and successful. A famous quote from him, If you cant stand the heat, you dont belong in this kitchen!
Prof Greenberg is a great professor, that being said his tests are extremely hard and if you are not willing to study outside of his class or outside of the ALEKS hw then your grade will SUFFER ALOT. I recommend doing his class problems over and studying from the recitation worksheets. Watch youtube and ask questions this is how I got an A!
Just show up learn the material. Don't think you just know the surface and you can pass. Practice what he teaches outside of class. Aleks is just a prep, you need to master the material. Hes a great professor, but he can sometimes be very confusing, and his test are extemely difficult and confusing if you dont understand the material
This class is not at all worth the stress!
Dr. Greenberg is a phenomenal professor, who gave very thorough and in-depth lectures, along with being a caring and nice person. His tests were very difficult but fair, nothing shows up on the exam that he did not go over in lecture. He literally gave me extra help at midnight before an exam via video call, which no other professor has ever done.
There are only 3 tests given throughout the semester and then the final. It is a very tough course so I would not take it if you just need a science credit. Do your homework on ALEKS and do well in recitation in order to boost your grades. Must pay attention in lectures and take notes. It's not a easy class to get a C in.
Funny how he forgets chem STUFF in the middle of his lectures and expects students to know everything extremely well by making super hard questions. Like you been teaching chem since forever and yet making stupid mistakes but encourage students to study ''HARDER'' hahahahaha this gotta be a joke
Dr. Greenberg is very knowledgable on the subject of chemistry, however does not know how to effectively relay the material to his students. While the material is very unclear at first, if you ask him a question he will clarify. Exams are brutal and no extra credit. The hw is extremely long. Takes weeks to give back exams. Not worth the stress!
Very nice Prof. Hardest class I have ever taken!! Lots of HW, Test Heavy!! He will help you whenever you need, it is just a really hard subject!! Do not take it during the summer unless you have to, or will have a great work ethic because it is very stressful!! The teacher is really nice and will be there for you but @ the end, it's on you, GL!!
Great teacher, explains everything very clearly. I understood so much in 5 weeks. His tests were easy if you understand the concepts. Take VERY GOOD notes.
Lets put it this way, his lectures are long and boring but come on its chemistry. I took it over the summer so it was crazy amounts of work. But if you take good notes and do all your homework you won't be disappointed with your grade.
do NOTTTT take him he is a literal nightmare and will not care about the class. He does not take into consideration the tough times that we are facing throughout this pandemic. He does not understand that there are other classes other than his and expects you to spend about 5 extra hours outside of the lectures on his work.
Hes very rude and has an attitude problem, he gets upset when students share their concerns about the class. He has made the conditions given with online learning much more difficult and so much harder to pass.
Honestly speaking, the worst professor I've ever had. As the other ratings say, he actually doesn't respond to emails or prepare you for the exams. The homework given on ALEKS and his lectures will not help you on the exams at all because he just makes the exam so much more difficult (way harder than ALEKs HW, practice exam, and other genchem exams
Awful. Causes mental stress. Doesn't care that most of the class is failing. Its not worth it.
Prof Greenberg is knowledgable in chemistry, but he refuses to adapt to modern ways of teaching. If you rely on powerpoints, don't take him. You'll do fine if you pay attention to every second of lecture and study from the examples he gives. He's mean on the surface but not a horrible person. Do the aleks hw! The class is what you make of it.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. He is the most inconsiderate and rude professor I've ever encountered. He has no regard for his students' concerns even if you are polite. I'm doing everything to pass and he makes it absolutely impossible. He even said that the ALEKS hw will not help at all on his exams. He is all around just a terrible person.
Ross Greenberg is a calamity that was unfortunately placed on many unsuspecting individuals.
Anyone who is giving Greenberg a bad rating is just blaming the professor for their own mistakes. this is a course that requires a lot of dedication and studying. his exams contain the exact problem questions that he has during lectures and if you understand the concepts you will do well. he gives his time to students that need it and is very blunt
Prof Greenberg is a very good professor that cares about his students. U just have to show him your dedicated. The people who get bad grades are the ones who dont attend the extra zoom sessions and dont study efficiently. Hes stayed on extra help till around 10 pm to to help me. Do ur work, work hard & your grade will be an A. Stop making excuses
Had to drop this course because the professor was not fair game at all. Professor Greenberg does not know how to teach students efficiently, as shown by the 200+ negative ratings about him.
I heard a lot of bad things about Professor Greenberg but at the end he only showed compassion for students. Just don't be annoying and you'll be fine. Chemistry is hard but you can do it. The prof reminds me of Peter Griffin because of his sarcasm.
Greenberg would be a great professor if he were to just make powerpoints and provide students with more practice material that are similar to his style of questions. Make sure to really study the material, this is NOT a professor or class you can just pass by doing the bare minimum. DO ALEKS! I really didn't know what to expect on exams, study!!!
DO NOT TAKE THIS MAN'S CLASS. Save urself from hours long ALEKS HW that you PAY for monthly, save urself from the attitudes, the lack of consideration, stress, etc. Promised us a curve and did not come through. Im sure that he didn't even add the extra credit from aleks exams or even the perfect scores on homework assignments. SAVE UR GPA!!!!!!!!!
If I could give him 0 stars I would. He cares more about cheating than if his students pass or not. Hes rude, doesnt answer emails, and exams which are a third of the final grade often contain material not mentioned in lecture or the syllabus. ALEKS takes a ridiculous amount of time. Avoid him at all costs. Hardly got anything out of the class.
He doesn't care.
I'm not sure how I passed, but he have had to curve the grades at the end of the year. His lectures were good and clear and I studied everything I could, but not sure why I didn't do so well on exams.. I wish we weren't responsible for material we didn't have time to cover but it is what it is. Just be prepared to work hard and he is okay!
Greenberg is not adaptable any feedback anyone suggests. His teaching methods are outdated & his class notes are extremely unorganized, all over the place and hard to read. He makes it known that he has worked here for many years so complaints about him WILL be ignored. Also the online HW will take you hours to complete and will teach you NOTHING.
Greenberg does not care to help his students at all! I studied my brains off for the tests which included doing all the Aleks HW and got 100 on all of them and still did poorly on the tests. I met with him to discuss a better way to study for the final and he said he cant help me at all. His response was "just know everything" Worst professor!!
Super inconsiderate when it comes to homework on ALEKS... the homework itself was a lot of work and the exams were hard. As much as you try to obtain information throughout the class, it is still hard to learn (obviously my opinion). If CHEM 113 is your first chem, I highly encourage you to choose a different professor. Greenberg ain't it.
Stay away from this class if you want to keep your GPA and mental health intact! Homework is overwheling, he assigns about 10-20 topics on Aleks every week (20% of your grade), two semester exams (40%) and a CUMULATIVE final (40%). Only review session held was a Q&A during SPRING BREAK. But it was not at all helpful at all! STAY AWAY.
Prof exams are tough, we all failed and he blamed us for cheating because of one question most of us answered the same. A LOT OF HOMEWORK, ALEKS HAS 185 TOPICS, 3-5 questions each topic, total 555 questions in 15 weeks. You will be stressed during his class. Lectures are short so you wont cover everything. You will feel unprepared for exams.
DON'T TAKE HIM AND SAVE YOUR GPA AND YOUR MONEY !!! He gives ridiculous hours of ALEKS homework, he doesn't answer emails, and he offers no study guides. His exams are entirely different than the homework. A perfect Recitation won't help your grading. Out of 80 students in our lecture, over half dropped. His class is a pitfall into probation.
Still suffer from the grade i got in this class that ruined my gpa. i wish i never would have taken this class but it was my first semester in QC and i was a naive little kid! The only C grade i got was in his class. RUN away from him.
I'm currently taking his morning class and it is impossible to stay awake. He speaks very bluntly, which normally is something I would just deal with and not let it bother me too much, but he doesn't compensate for it. He doesn't give study guides and in our whatsapp gc, we all weren't sure when the exam was until 2 days before the in-person exam.
He was very rude in emails and so dry when giving his lectures. Does not care about students at all and taught lectures way too close to the tests, which gives you no time to actually study the last chapter you are taught before the test. Gives Aleks homework right after the other with so many questions. Take any other professor but him!!
I'm gonna be 100% honest, he is the #1 worst chemistry professor I've ever had. I'm so disappointed that I took his class. I really enjoy chemistry and believe I'm quite good at it, but he just ripped all of that away from me this semester. He doesn't make review sheets for exams (which would help his class but he doesn't seem to understand that).
The worst experience I've ever had in a class. Very rude and condescending. He fails to go over a good portion of the material and makes you watch his previous recorded lectures that take hours so good luck if you're taking more tough classes. No reviews, the tests are very hard, Aleks is ridiculous hours. Your grade in other courses will suffer.
Terrible.
There are other options besides Greenberg. Please for your sake, just pick someone else besides him. Hes good at chemistry just not the best at teaching due to his nasty attitude and lack of material to provide for his students to improve when clearly were literally failing.
Agenda is not organized. Lessons are packed and yet he still manages to be behind. He made us watch lecture videos for the last two exams because classes ended too early for him. And he doesnt grade on time. Manageable only if you love chemistry and can put 5-6 hours a day of work into it.
Professor uses Aleks for homework which has a lot of questions and very time consuming. His exams are not what we reviewed. 3 exams and one final. Behind on lectures. Do not take him your GPA will drop!
I never write reviews, but hes the worst professor I have taken ever. And because of him I ended up changing my major. :( I went to his class in 2020, 70% of the class failed the course.
Dr. Greenbergs class is tough. I took it for pre-med major. Exams are tough however he is readily available to help explain tough concepts. He mostly is a tough subject and anyone must expect that it will require a lot of Time and dedication to mastering the subject matter. Not your typical easy liberal arts class. Expect to study a lot.
He's funny and when you ask him questions during lab if you're unsure of something he'll help you figure it out, especially if it's calculations. He does expect you to know the procedures before each lab. There are pre and post-labs and 13 labs in total. No lab reports are needed and they provide the lab manuals you just have to print it out.
A NIGHTMARE. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD DO NOT TAKE HIM UNLESS UR A CHEM MAJOR AND UR AMAZING AT IT. I had to drop his class cause it was so bad. He gives a lot of Aleks homework which takes FOREVER. His exams are insane I had never spent so much time studying for an exam and still failed. The class average was 20 for an exam. SO many people dropped him.
I have never been more stressed out in my life save yourself the trauma and don't take him. I don't know what he gets out of being so difficult but I hope if ur reading this Mr.Greenburg I wish u would care more and that's it's not always the student's fault for getting bad grades. I studied my butt off and still didn't do well.
No matter what you see here, you're going to sacrifice your sleep to even get a C or B in this class. He doesn't do test reviews, study sheets and just will give you an exam, and not even let you see what you got wrong. You're on your own in this class, so be prepared to work 6-12 hours a week(Go on youtube), doing ALEK (test isnt even based on).
The previous review was also me,When doing exams he only allows1 cheat sheet, which he didnt even want to provide department required. On this site he also puts his own false reviews so be aware. Also, you will NEED outside material to prep for this class. My 1 recommendation is to go to another Professor class if not, just grind through and endure
Do not take this class with other classes, your grade will definitely suffer. A lot of people in my class had dropped for it not to interfere with their grade. Classes was online but exams was in-person. ALEKS is so time consuming. Whats on ALEKS is not on the exams, you have to rely heavily on lectures and the textbook.
Brutal semester, half the class dropped. He wasn't approachable and kinda condescending. Exams are long and require you to integrate multiple concepts for in depth questions. My test grades were all oveR. He never responds to emails
I had prof Greenburg over the summer so the course was very densely packed. Yes, he is harsh, his exams are challenging, and he will make you work for them. But he is the only professor for chem 1134 that knows CHEMISTRY. Everything on the lecture is on the exam not textbook based. Study and practice, you should be good.
He is the reason why I changed my major. He is the reason why I will forever have a bad mark on my GPA when I was always an A/B student. Run from him. He is brutal. This is the "weed out" class. Most people who take it either drop it or change their majors after...
What I can say is that this guy knows his material, but he doesn't know how to break it down so that the students can understand the material. His tests are very math-heavy, and don't really prepare you for the final, so make sure you guys study EVERY part of the textbook.
Prof Greenberg does not receive the credit he deserves. He is very knowledgeable more than any chem prof at qc. He is harsh but honestly, all you gotta do is review your lecture notes and ask questions. And you will be good. He is mean only people say that because they can't pass.
Do not take him. He will ruin your GPA.
Professor Greenberg is super knowledgable and gives amazing lectures. You have to take note of everything he says and stop him for questions but he's always willing to answer. Exams are difficult and theres alot of material but its doable. People say he's mean but this isn't the type of class you're getting an A in without putting in the hours.
Professor Greenberg can sometimes come out as rude, but that's because he is very frank with people. He is a great professor and does a great job teaching the material, and he is always willing to answer any questions after class. If you plan on passing this class, you must attend the lectures and study since it's challenging.
I would take Prof. Greenberg again for a lab. He's not amazing but he's not bad. Just come to class and do the assignments and you'll be fine. He didn't give back any of the weekly lab reports, so it was hard to gauge how we were doing, but I think he's a fair grader. He's really funny once you warm up to him.
One of the chemistry best teachers at QC. Breaks down material well. To do well in his class show up evryday & take notes on everything.Tests are lecture-heavy & he will test you on something u talked about for just 1min so study ALL of ur notes. He doesn't test based on the Aleks, it's practice for u. Study on ur own bc chem is not an easy course.
Don't take this class because it will ruin your GPA. The homework assignments on ALEKS is A L O T....
He's a good lab instructor but I've heard his lecture class is tough. He's knowledgeable and always helps students during lab. He doesn't grade anything until he end of the semester though but the grade mostly consists of lab reports and online pre-labs that he makes you do before you come to class.
I can't write in full sentences bc of the word limit so: attendance isn't mandatory, semester exams are harder than final, not helpful in office hours (which are outside in the open, not in a building), knows what he's teaching, but only teaches half the stuff we need to know. get ready for lots of work from aleks hw site and reading from textbook.
rude to students
Outside of lecture, he is a pretty chill and funny guy. However, he is straight up a spawn of Satan. His exams are harder than ALEKS, so you have to jump through hurdles on the exams to get it right. If you have to take him then I recommend to do a lot of practice questions ranging from various examples.
If you want to do well you must already have read and done all the practice problems in the chapter before he teaches it or else you won't understand or learn anything It's something that's obvious but so many ppl never did it and complained when they did bad. Go to every LEC, don't overdo it with other hard courses and be prepared to work hard.
Each semester 70-80% students drop his class, I have witness this two times. Hard exams, harder then the final exam which is from the department itself. Summar class with him a big NO, because you need to know everything in short time. Doesn't care about the students passing his class. Aleks is gonna give you heart attack. You end with W or D grade
His lectures are long and boring, he doesn't have slides. His tests are hard, harder than the final. He doesn't care about students grades at all, he is just there because it's his job. He is not so bad in labs but is in lectures. Most students drop from his class by final there is barely any students left. This will ruin your chemistry experience.
Dr. Greenberg is a fantastic professor. I struggled on the first two summer exams but kept studying day and night, and he encouraged me to stick it out and not give up, and I did so well on the final it turned things around. He cares about students who care, and most students who dropped/failed were not prepared to actually put the hard work in.
Currently sitting and crying over finishing my ALEKS that he hasn't even covered all of the chapters on yet in class, and it's due in less than a week. Majority of it isn't even on the exam, so it's a complete waste of time imo. Feels like he sets us up for failure. Don't make my mistake of taking him. Save yourself
He's not a terrible professor, but I would never take a class with him ever again. Class average for the first exam was 33. We also have our 2nd exam this week which is only a week from the final. Syllabus isn't clear on when exam dates are which is bogus. I think that should be reflective of how good of a professor he really is. 2/10 recommend
Only way you are going to pass is if you start studying the material from day 1 and using youtube (I recommend the organic chemistry tutor). He's old school and uses a chalkboard (no slides).. so whatever you miss during lecture you should go to his office hours or try and connect with classmates. If I had the choice I would chose a different prof.
He is very easy and laid back, just do not give him a hard time for something, and just follow the lab manual that really is all, his explanations were messy, but honestly it was kinda useless, just self teaxch it youtself and it is better.
The class is brutal. The online homework is not made well and has very annoying, unreasonable aspects making homework more frustrating. The exams are 10 times harder than the homework and lectures. Nothing will prepare you for the extreme difficulty of the exams unless you are very knowledgeable already about science.
He has an attitude whenever you don't understand his unclear instructions. However, all his exams are based on what you learn in class. If you show up to class you will do good on the exams. The ALEKS homework can be frustrating, but it is worth 40% of your grade. Make sure to attend every lecture and do the ALEKS homework and you will be okay!
Terrible professor. Very old-school in his teaching just lectures, No slides! No effort to make sure students actually understand the material.Gave the midterm just a week before the final, which makes no sense and left no time to recover or improve. The tests are unnecessarily hard and don't reflect what was taught. Overall, not a good experience.
I had Dr. Greenberg for Lab and I really enjoyed it. As long as you don't give him a hard time, there's no reason to be worried. You have a lab report every week but he doesn't grade that harshly. Pre-labs that he often forgets to post and 1 final which is easy. If he does get mad at you don't sweat it, he'll be cracking jokes w/ u next week.
I had him for gen chem 1 lab. We had pre labs and lab reports which were a pain but manageable. And we did have a final which wasn't all to difficult if you done all the labs. He would crack up funny jokes here and became a chill guy after half the semester went by.
His exams are very difficult, 10 times more difficult than the homework and in-class problems. A majority of the class does awful on his exams. The homework online is not well-made and frustrating to do because of very specific answer requirements. It is a tough class and you can only do well if you are already very knowledgeable about chemistry.
Professor Greenberg was a great professor. He truly cares about his students and wants the ones who actually want to do well to succeed. If you have any questions or if you are uncertain about a topic, ask questions. He really will take the time to explain everything to you. Chemistry is tough in general so be prepared to really study.
Dr. Greenberg had some incredible lectures and really managed to simplify down the material to help you understand it in class. But exams were hard. Exams were REALLY hard. I realized right before the final exam that there was no way I could pass this class (especially given that I'd failed 2 exams). I then dropped and changed my major.
I had Dr Greenberg for Lab, he's very understanding and kind. He's a bit flexible with submitting lab reports but don't make it a habit of leaving them for last minute.
