Ross is very smart, challenging, fair, funny. He is an excellent teacher.
i want to go back and take more classes from him. a gem
Greatest teacher at camosun! But DAMN that marking system!!
shows 2 sides to every argument. makes you think. great prep for 3rd year.
Hilarious and very interesting most of the time, has a funny voice sometimes too
very hard marker so scramble for points on mutible tests. great memory too
No Comments
Take him for as many classes as you can... Multiple choice tests are fine, the essay takes a lot of work to get a good mark...Awsome teacher
One of the greatest Professors I have ever had. He is the hardest marker I have ever had too. His comments were brutal --too honest, but I needed it. He shamed me into becoming a better writer. He makes you want to prove him wrong. Thanks Ross
Tough on term papers, but it's for your own good. Objective and knowledgeable. Ross rawks!
Funny, smart lectures, and THE BEST PAPER GRADING SYSTEM ON THE PLANET! I was the envy of all my friends when I wrote my PSC paper. Ross is a God!
After taking Ross's class for my third term I have to say that he is able to take a dry subject and make it fun, If anyone has to take a PSC course take it with Ross, you won't regret it
He is the best teacher imaginable! He is very veyr smart and makes you smart as well! He speaks Japanese just for fun and he knows everything in the world.
Great teacher. Tests are so easy and predictable. But he makes up for this with the worst and hardest term paper marking format known to mankind. If you're not good at writing papers, get a masters degree in english before taking his class.
Hey, I'm up at UVIC now and no teacher prepared me better than Ross. You think he marks tough? Thank him! He's doing you a favour, trust me. Oh, and cherish your days at the college...
OMG this guy is amazing, for a guy who is reaching retirement he's pretty sharp, witty and sexy.
his tests are predictable, his papers are hard but make you think, he is a good lecturer... but the guy is so unapproachable, a totally different guy during office hours :(
An awesome prof! He made me a better writer, and encourage you to think. Thanks Ross!
Bah. Ross is an arrogant, unhelpfull idiot. Don't know what his problem is, seems to like to flaunt that he knows everything about political science Marks extremely hard, regardless of how much time and effort you put into the term paper, he will fail you!
very smart but he's the only poli sci teacher at homosun so expect him to be busy
I think I took every course Ross taught at Camosun when I was there in 96-98. He was great. He was bright & interesting & tried to make his classes challenging. If you think he grades too hard, maybe you should consider the possibility that you're not that bright.
Ross is an excellent professor who makes class interesting and fun. Always talks current events and lectures at the student level. (ie. the ocassional curse word) Marks easier than some, but you gotta know your stuff. Recomended!
Ross, buddy, you're hilarious! However; your tests suck! Don't stress about the term paper, cause he will fail you ALL! He's brilliant and honest (gotta love it). I'd reccomend to people who know NOTHING about politics.
Ross is a great teacher and always fun to take classes from, but in one or two classes, the term papers were a ****; especially 222, which was very vague.
Really interesting man who seems to know a surplus of information. Hard tests and term papers, but provides interesting material. Always able to help out.
Ross is a great teacher. He gives you pre-tests before exams and he lets you re-write your term paper. How can you not get an A?
I have never had a better teacher than Ross, sure he's goofy, and marks hard papers, but hell, that's why we pay for him, to learn how to think, it's a good way to seperate the stupid from the witty
Hard term paper, get started on it EARLY. Hard for me, I had NO political knowledge previously, but Ross is such a great teacher, keeps you interested in a slightly boring subject. Very witty man.
What happens if I go to UVic and don't like poli with anyone else? Damn you for making us work so hard...I'm supposed to despise profs like you! But I still don't know how to use an apostrophe..hehe. If you are willing to work hard, and pay attention...it's some good times!I know you read these ross
Ross is a great teacher, although a bit quirky. He tends to talk over the heads of his students by using obscure vocabulary. He is a very hard marker on the term paper, but tells you exactly what to do afterwards. If you put in the effort, you’ll get a good mark with him.
This Prof is one of the best at Camosun. He's very tough on the term paper, but he's very fair and very helpful. If you're dying for an alternative to taking another English course, this will teach you to write a paper at that level. Ross makes a sometimes dry subject fun. Take one of his courses and you'll soon be signing up for more.
not worth it
Worst Class that I've ever taken. Too much sexual talk and random tangents about his own life. I'm not paying to hear about his days as a undergrad, I'm paying for a lecture. Tough marker and unclear of expectations. Don't bother with this boring class if you don't have to.
Ross has got good intentions, but sometimes i dont find his lectures useful..i think that to make his class better it needs to be smaller with a seminar class as well because we get so far behind that he cant even answer questions..hes tough im a A student, especially for essays, and i got a C on his paper..we get to do a rewrite-but who has time??
Ross rocks! Yes, he will destroy you and your term paper, but you get to rewrite it. His multiple choice tests are easy, and you can rewrite those too. If the test is worth 20% of your mark, then the test will be 20 multiple choice questions. I suggest everyone take PSC 104 and 106 with Ross.
I took every class available at Camosun with Ross. He is clear, informative and funny too. He is a hard marker on the paper, but he allows a rewrite. The tests are dirt easy, all you have to do is study the notes and the pretest.
I have no political background and found this course to be a great introduction. Ross is funny, easy going, and keeps the lectures as entertaining yet informative as possible. I highly suggest to take one of his courses.
Although he marks harshly, he offers rewrites on most of his tests as well as the term paper. This guy knows his stuff. If you're interested in anything to do with poli sci I recommend Lambertson. I definitely learned something.
stay away from this one, unless you like to learn how to memorize tests and not actually grasp concepts.boring, hard-to-follow lectures and rough speaking...this class put me to sleep and made me repulse politics! these people here must have enjoying memorizing pretests!
I've taken all of Ross's classes and he's called me everything from a pinko to a godless socialist - but always with a smile on his face. anyone who dares to bad mouth his teaching obviously didn't put in the effort. Ross is very reasonable, humorous and quite possibly one of the smartest men i've ever met. If you try, you will succeed.
ross is a terrible teacher.his lectures are boring. he does not care about teaching politics, he only cares about getting his students to pass his tricky, silly, pathetic multiple choice tests. memorizing political info? ridiculous. learn the content not how to memorize. he takes forever to return papers and is very arrogant.
Ross is one of the best teachers at CC. From his sense of humour to his sarcasm towards our leading political leaders, he always provided clear and easy to comprehend lessons. Be prepared to giver if you want to get an A. Besides learning all about our country's political sytem and policies, you will learn tons more from this cognisceti professor.
I was a student of Ross about 10 years ago. He still stands out as one of the best professors, I had during my undergrad. His courses remained relevant for my post graduate studies and professional work. For those looking for a good grounding in politics and law in Victoria, Ross makes Camosun as good an option as UVic for your first two years.
Ross is the****. If your wanting to take polisci, do it with Ross.
Political Science is really boring but ROSS LAMBERTSON made it fun anyways. Also all the tests are rather easy, woohoo! Unfourtunetly hes not always politcally neutral.
Take any or all of Ross's Poli Sci classes. They are all the same format. Tests are short and easy multiple choice. Papers can be difficult, but you can re-write them. The key to doing well on a paper is to discuss the paper with Ross in his office before you begin writing, then write the paper, then back to his office, then do the re-write.
Ross is the best teacher!! He really cares about his students and will go out of his way to help you out :) I have taken 2 of his classes. He's always willing to go over things in class that were not understood, or are more complicated. I highly recommend taking his classes!!!
It's been many years since I've been in Ross's classes, but I still remember much of what he taught. I can't say the same about all my old profs. Not to say that Ross is old. Well I guess he might be now. It's been a while. I'm guessing he's still young at heart.

Ross known his material very well. He offers many office hours, encourages the class to speak up and ask questions. Not an easy marker, but he gives you lots of chances for improvement, for example, re-writes, takes the best mark of the two...re-writes on paper. (there's your pepper ross, happy?) :)
Ross is great! Enough said. Take his class!
Ross is a really good teacher overall. I enjoyed the class but found I did get bored easily during the lectures. Memorizing pretests is vital to doing well on the tests. He allows re-writes and has good office hours, which makes it easier to get a good grade if you can put in the extra work. Would take another one of his classes for sure.
An OK introduction to international relations. Too bad lectures and seminars are often spoiled by a group of chatty jokers in the back of the class. This is supposed to be 2nd year college, but it feels like 8th grade thanks to the constant whispering and wisecracking. Ross, most of us want to listen, discuss, and learn - not goof off. Shut 'em up!
Lambertson is a great prof., his stories and his experience help play an important role in the way he teaches his class. It is obvious by the way that he speaks the he cares a great deal about political science, which helps students to care more.
Ross is one of the most brightest professors on this side of the planet! Very Funny! Knows his stuff! He Loves Russian Jews! Expert on civil liberties and human rights! Show the man you are a serious student, work hard and you will be rewarded! Great man to chat with! If you take Political Science at Camosun take it ONLY with him! He is a genius! Second only to me!
Law and Politics was the best class I took with Ross, and I took many. I HIGHLY recommend taking Law & Politics with Ross... HIGHLY!

Great
In hindsight, Lambertson's teaching (and grading) methods are just silly. I have never taken a poli sci course at Uvic that is in any way comparable, in terms of format, to a Lambertson course. I really have mixed feelings about him now. The tests are too easy, but then Ross employs his cruel grading system on the term paper. Go figure...
This class was tough. Ross is fair, and knows his stuff.
Ross is a cool guy. Definitely knows his stuff. The course was challenging but not impossible. Very tough marker, but he's fair (don't expect to be able to throw random BS on paper and get a good mark from it). Allows re-writes for most of the tests and the essay. I would recommend Ross's courses.
Definitely Ross's best class and it also seems to be the one he's most enthusiastic about. Ross is a great professor, very knowledgeable and very helpful. He cares a lot about his students and it shows. Highly recommend him.
I learned more about writing a good paper from Ross than any of my English Prof's. He has great control over his class, but allows us to speak out. I can't wait to take 106 with him in January.
Do not be fooled by Lambertson's courses. This professor leaves you totally unprepared for Political Science at the university level (and don't be fooled into thinking that Ross teaches university level courses.) Trivial is right.
great teacher
Show up, collect pre-tests. Memorize pre-tests. Complete term paper and hand in. Receive marked term paper, with letter grade "B." Take note of Ross's comments and criticisms, and rewrite accordingly. Hand in. Acquire course grade of A+. Now, what exactly is challenging about that? As stated below, this man does not prepare his students.
Seems to know his stuff; however, he is incredibly uncaptivating during his lectures and is one of those profs that simply stands infront of the class and reads off the note packages. Tests are super easy because you just have to remember the pretest, but his term paper expectations were rediculous. Overall an easy but put you to sleep class.
Took Ross for Poli Sci back in the 70's. Good dude. He'd be mad to know I work for the Federales now!
Honestly, I hated the class. He just taught in a way that did not work for me. His lectures were extremely boring, and unnecessary. His tests were extremely easy, but his term paper had stupid expectations. I couldn't bring myself to go to class so I dropped it.
The worst I have taken at Camosun. For those first years who are taking PSC, take it with Randall Garrison and you won't be disappointed. Ross is the most confusing, boring and non structured teacher I have ever had. His expectations for the term papers are ridiculous and it's like he is more interested in "tricking" you on tests than you learning.
If your are stong headed and conservative you probably won't like him or you'll just argue with him all the time
Ross can be considered cold, I know I thought he hard to approach with questions/comments when I took my first class with him. But I've now taken 3 with him. His class is not easy but he's more then willing to tlak to you about marks if you think he's wrong or you didn't like your grade.
Good teacher; does tend to get sidetracked easily. Loves to provoke people, which I loved.
I find Ross to be very funny and engaging in his lectures, and his knowledge is immense. He's incredibly clear on the instructions on the term paper, willing to help you with questions, and you get the chance to rewrite for a better grade. I'm enjoying the course, and I think Ross is a gifted instructor.
This was my favourite class. Each class was basically a discussion, and even though they didn't always stick to the subject of the chapter, were very engaging. I'm not one to always speak up, but always left class thinking about some tangent or another. Isn't every good professor supposed to make you think? Ross both says so, and does.
Ross is a very unstructured teacher. His term papers are highly unorganized and he expects more than he should from his students. Worst of all are his tests, which are 20 m/c questions worth 20% of your grade that are designed to trick you in every way possible. He does allow rewrites on both the paper and exams (although not m/c). NOT Recommended.
Great teacher. Everything to be covered on exams clearly outline and there's no trickery. He won't tell you every single item you're to cover on your paper but expectations are clear. Paper and tests can all be rewritten for a higher mark, and participation mark can be given for emailed thoughts if you are not comfortable speaking in class.
The Best Professor.
Interesting material presented well, provided you attend class and do the homework questions. Test questions can be tricky but often they are essentially the same as those given for homework, and if you can give a good argument for why your answer is actually correct he will give marks. Will take some serious homework to get a good grade though.
Ross provides discussion in class that, while stimulating, has absolutely nothing to do with the course material. His tests and teaching style are geared toward a specific learning type, and he can be very condescending if you do not fit. The course load is ridiculous, and the lectures useless in preparing you for exams.
Lambertson is an extremely intelligent man, he's read more books than I can ever hope to even consider in my lifetime. However, that superior knowledge has a hard time translating as teaching material. I think he forgets he's teaching intro level politics and fails to break down the material for the students who aren't as well versed.
loved his class
I loved law and politics. Unlike in some of Ross' other classes, all the materials to be tested on are covered in detail in class. This was extremely helpful in preparing for tests and the term paper.
Like previous comments, Lambertson is not an easy instructor. But he doesn't make it hard because he hates you, he does it to prepare you for upper level classes. Put in the work and you'll have a good idea of what upper level classes will be like. His teaching method/style is different, but you'll adapt if that is what you really want.
Ross is one of the best profs I have ever had. Attend class, do the readings and ask questions and you will learn a lot. The value of his teaching methods will not be apparent until you transfer to UVic or another university and you realize you are well prepared for third and fourth year courses. His passion for teaching is obvious.
I had Ross for two classes last semester 210 and 222 I think. I loved him so much I am taking two of his classes again. He is extremely intelligent and helpful. It's true his classes are on the harder side but I think being challenged now will make things easier in the future. Thanks Ross!
Ross is a tough professor. While this does prepare you for UVic the course load is still excessive. His lectures don't have much to do with the course content. Do the readings, come to class if you have questions (participation marks will given) and study hard. He likes to trick you.
Ross Rox!!
Great lecturer, and the best lecturer I've had to this day. He gave us amazing notes, so we didn't need to write down everything he said, but could instead make notes on his notes. It was also clear exactly what you needed to know on the exams. The lectures was up-to-date with discussion of the weekly news, and was easy available if anything.
Ross is awesome; every poli sci undergrad should take his class
