Ross is a great teacher. He's easy to understand, and he's funny. I looked forward to going to math class the entire semester. Until I took his class I didn't like math. I highly recomend him as a teacher. And I dare anyone with a sense of humor to take this class and not enjoy it.
Ross tries to really help you do well. He continually asks if anyone has any questions, and is patient when you don't understand.
Math is definitely NOT my subject and Math 70 with Mckenzie was my second attempt at taking it- and I pulled off an A. Ross has a very good teaching style, very clear, helpful, and grades fairly. I would recommend him to those of you who struggle with math, but are willing to work hard to make the grade.
very patient, helps when you need it, is reasonable, gives one easy question in tests were he wants to know how you would take over the world and he GIVES U CANDY! He knows his stuff, but be prepared to work for your grade, do the homework, come to lectures and dont miss the quizzes.over all hes a funny guy but put your game face on for test day.
SUPER SWEET guy! Wonderful person! Do not take him for math 122 though... He's only taught it once which makes for unclear lectures. The whole hour and ten minutes was spent covering 2 problems!!! Nice guy, bad teacher for math 122.
this teacher is soooo bad. he goes really fast in his lectures and he's not very helpful. his test are hard and he's unfair.
Very good explanations, h/w everyday but it's helpful, overall the class is good
ok so math 90 is probably the hardest math at MJC. I've taken it with other teachers and have failed miserably, but mckenzie actually explains it clearly. He is kind of weird, but he makes for a very good math teacher. i would recomend him
Mc Kenzie is a great math teacher for Math 70! He always makes sure if anyone has any questions before he moves on. Although in math 90 it was a little more difficult. Just do all the hw n ask him ?'s you'll be fine!! Even though never gave us our homework back to study for our finals, I still pulled off a B in that class. Overall, great teacher!!
He does not need to be teaching Math122... he has no idea how to convey information to students. When asked to explain, he would point to the board and move on without hesitation. He has a short fuse with those he does not like and he can be quite rude
Went way too fast. I couldn't keep up. Wasn't approachable and made you feel dumb. A lot of homework. I ended up dropping the class. He told me that I wouldn't be able to catch up to a C.
Prof McKenzie is great!! He makes sure all questions are answered before going on. There are quizzes or exams every week, but he tells you in advanced what sections will be covered. HW is turned in weekly, which is great! He is not good about returning HW, but he always returns tests the next week. I would take his class again.
Ross is a great professor!!!! The comments about there being a lot of hw make me laugh. Hello its a math class, of course there is going to be hw. But he only collects the hw weekly to give you time to complete the assignments. There are tests every week, but he explains what will be on them. I wish he was teaching math 90 next semester.
He is an o.k. teacher, but the class is extemely difficult. He gives out homework and sometimes the material on the tests is irrelevant to the homework. He can also be very rude if you are late.
This is one of the worst teachers I have ever had! Not only does he babble about irrelevant issues, he manages to make a student feel less than important because of his need to read the current comic books instead of grading papers. He is rude to his students and has no compassion for them. I needed this class to transfer, but its not worth it!
i love this teacher! i learned so much from him and had fun doing it! i wish he was teaching 122 next semester because i would definetly take him again. a little loopy but who wouldnt be after all those years of math math math. wonderful teacher take him if you can!
He's a great teacher. This class was a bit difficult for me. However, he seemed to really care about his students. He was always very helpful and would answer any questions I had.
Ross has a unique way of seeing the world; he is an incredible mathematician with a creative mind. His tests are made up of problems that he writes on the Board while he is teaching. He doesn't use problems from the book to write tests. The book problems are for practice. If you don't practice math you will not pass this or any math class.
Professor McKenzie is NOT a good math teacher! Very nice guy but EVERYTHING he talked about was related to STAR WARS! I know absolutely nothing about Star Wars so his little tangents about Star Wars were anything but helpful! Would defentinely not recommend him!
laid back teacher
I believe he should leave his lazyness in his office before he comes in and teach to classroom. he is always avoiding steps, and students get lost. i hate the way he teaches. if i ever have to take a math class in the future, I swear i would not take him again.!!!!!
He is a pompous instructor who needs to be sent elsewhere. He does not teach the material... he completely butchers it!Not to mention it is incredibly unhygienic of him to wear white clothes with dirty yellow stains!!(FYI:He monitors his R8MyProf score...so be suspicious of high scores!)
This was the worst math teacher I've had. I used to love math and now I hate it! He's pretty rude too. He says if you get a C there is no use in taking math again. How is that supposed to encourage a student to do there best? It just makes them feel bad and not want to try hard.
Grade teacher. He tries to make math fun. Explains everything till everyone gets it. Very nice and helpful.
ahh!!!! what can i say!!!i hated this class. i understood nothing that he ever taught. homework is online but a lot. always talking about star wars (or something like that). not recommended!!!!
McKenzie is a great math teacher because he tries to get around a lot of the tedium that goes along with the subject. Tests are straightforward, online homework is very useful, and if you have a problem just talk to him afterward and he will help you out. Definitely take if you want math to be fun.
He is funny but he grades in a harsh way. He also doesn't give chances for students to pass because he tells us to drop like we don't care.
This is by far the worst teacher I have ever had! Always tries to make jokes which interfere with teaching. he's smart but thats a minus for him bc he assumes everyone is as good at math as he nd skips lots of steps when demonstrating. he does give partial credit on tests if u tried, which doesnt help bc the problems are purposely made tricky
I like it when he talks about star wars and his hobbies. i also like it when he helps everyone try to succeed. Not!!
breaks things down to where they are easy to understand. very good professor for those who are willing to work hard. no tolerance for lazy asses. and dont be late! he will give a pop quiz and lock the door to prove a point! NOT COOL! but overall he is a good teacher... first time i have gotten As on math quizes!
Good teacher. Answers any questions you have in class. also encourages you to come for extra help in his office. Test are straightforward and sometimes interesting. I don't see how anybody who actually tries can fail this class. I definitely recommend professor mckenzie.
He is a good person but his teaching criteria is high offcourse. Not recommended.
such a difficult class, not because of the actual math but because the teacher gave out test that were very tricky. His word problems, almost on every test, were an absolute nightmare. I attended class everyday, did ALL of that online homework, and studied like crazy and i barley managed to get a C. DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER!!!
He's thorough, affable, and approachable with an open door policy, but this class is not for slackers. You WILL be ready for the next level of math when he's through with you. If he "suggests" something, pauses, then smiles...imagine a cattle prod. He grades fairly and wants you to succeed. Would I take a class from him again? Yes, absolutely.
Ugh!!! Such a difficult class and every time he goes off to random steps which is not on the test! Not recommended!!!!!!
This teacher is the worst! He purposely made tests tricky, and like another student said, I came every single day, I literally didnt miss one day of class, did all the homework, and spent hours a day studying and also got a C. This class started out completely full, by the end only about 10 people took the final!
This teacher is a nightmare when it comes to the way he acts (as if he is Einstein), makes tests tricky it seems like he enjoys students being confused, and you will not get a good grade in his class. However, when you go on to the next class level, you will definitely be prepared! I am taking 90 now and am doing great because of how he drilled us.
For a math wizard, he is the best teacher there is. NOT!!!! Do not take this freak!
he does not have patience to teach. Only take his class if you are already an expert at math.
What can I say? The previous comments sum it up. If I had known about this website before, I would have never taken his class!
Wow, so many bad comments! I thought McKenzie was a great teacher for 101. He explained things well, went slowly, and the tests weren't too bad. He's hecka funny, in a nerdy kinda way. Attendance is a must. I missed one day and felt kinda behind for awhile. But overall a great teacher.
You like him or you don't. I don't. He was the most unhelpful teacher. Do NOT TAKE HIM unless you want to fail.
I took a summer course from Mc Kenzie, I went to class everyday, studied, passed. End of story. There's absolutely nothing wrong with this teacher, and he's absolutely hilarious in the dorkiest way possible. Most of the people criticizing him are just bitter because they don't understand how to do basic math.
This guy is unaware of his professional responsilities and incompetent. He is good at math and bad at teaching. he monitors his rmp score. Beware of high scores.
Most of the students end up dropping the class the ones that don't drop fail.
This is my second year at MJC and have never had such a crappy teacher. He get mad when he can't play video games and takes it out on the students.
I wouldn't reccomend him if your not a fast learner. i had to drop the class on the 11th week cuz he was moving to fast. There is a lot of hw and you have to do it everyday otherwise you won't do good on his quizzes. The test are hard but not horrible. The worst part for me was that there were word problems for almost every single section
he is a horrible teacher. he tells his students to drop and almost the entire class does end up withdrawing
I love this teacher! I am horrible at math but he explained it in a way that made me understand it. Got my first A in math ever! He is nerdy but acts more like your friend then a teacher. He used a lot of word problems though, but if you really study, you will pass. His tests and quizzes are not to hard either.
MY GOODNESS! I suggest another professor, please. If you're good in math then go for it, however if you're a slow learner as myself you will not learn much, i repeat! you will not learn much. he moves way too fast. faster than other professors, thats for sure! go with Manke or Meyer.
He makes things clear you have to do your work. One of the best math teacher at mjc. Anyone who thinks he's hard well they are idiots and dumbasses. And I'm a major slacker so trust me take him
McKenzie is a funny guy and entertaining. His quiz and test questions are very original and nerdy. Don't even need the book, but you have to buy it for that stupid access code to do hw online. Good class, good teacher, but not for me because i had trouble sitting at the computer for hours doing my homework.
He's a good teacher, but he can be a DICK! Sometimes he's in a bad mood and gets pissy when answering questions and sometimes loses his patience. If you don't mind a slight attitude problem at times, take him. His tests are easy and if you go to class and do your homework you'll be fine. Over all, he's not a bad teacher, I'd take him again.
BEST MATH TEACHER!!!!!!!!! I took him for math 70 and 90...dude PWNS! Has a ridiculous sense of humor/nerdy but its funny as hell. Very clear and helps you understand math in normal peoples way of thinking if that makes sense! I recommend him
By far, the WORSE professor I have ever had! He failed me with a D and brought down my 3.6 G.P.A! I already retook this class with Manke and got an A+! I couldn't believe how hard he made everything to be, overall he is just a bad teacher. I think he is too smart for his own good and thinks we are all math professors, like him. DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!!!
I liked him as a teacher. He was able to make it understandable, and fun. He maded it easy to get into the subject. You just have to worry about the test, but then again they where pretty easy.
Do NOT take this guy if you are serious about getting a good college education/experience. This instructor is not worth your money or your time & effort!! He is rude and does not know how to teach. Choose another instructor!!!
He is an ok teacher even though I failed. He needs to really slow down and realize everyone learns different and come to a teaching medium. I recommend only if you are comfortable with algebra and confident.
Best Math teacher. I took him for math 70 and now i am taking him for 90. He was soo funny and made math enjoyable...a lot of work but this is college people!I would definitely recommend him!
Professor McKenzie is a good guy, and he really does want his students to learn. He tries to be helpful and explain things very clearly, the only problem is he does not understand what it's like to not be a math GENIUS like him. He can't break it down. Also, he makes the book and the homework optional... obviously, that is a one way road to failing
McKenzie was a great teacher! He was extremely helpful and more than happy to answer any questions, or re-explain material in new manor to help get the message across. No need for textbook, he covers everything in class. Math is a DULL subject, but he tries to makes it fun with stories and jokes. I look forward to taking 121 with him.
WORST PROFESSOR EVERRRR. In general the worst teacher I've ever had. He makes fun of you for asking questions, He doesn't explain or go step by step when lecturing and then gets angry if you ask him to repeat what he said if you don't understand. As someone who struggles with math, he is NOT HELPFUL AT ALL. Funny guy, terrible teacher.
Please do not take any class with him. This teacher is no patients when teaching the material. Worst teacher ever.
He is a really cool teacher, he was very helpful, and he explained the math really well. He does give A LOT of home work, but without it I would've done horribly on the tests, it really helps in the long run. 10/10 would take again.
Took him for Finite Mathematics. He's a quirky teacher and does a great job at explaining complex mathematical concepts. Overall he's a solid professor. No textbook, but you do have to purchase an online code for homework (around $90).
SOOO much homework and quizzes every week. wouldn't take his class again. Prepare for lectures about robots and ninja crap.
I have taken quite a few classes at MJC and have experience with many different professors. I can honestly say this professor was the kindest and also made it super easy to understand the material. He is one of the few professors that actually cares about the success of his students
Really great professor. Although you do not use a textbook you do need to purchase an online code to access homework. He really wants his students to do well in his class. Homework heavy but it helps with quizzes and tests. Easily accessible for any questions.
He's a very good professor, One of the best at MJC actually. His classes get filled up super fast because he's that good. I wasn't very good at math, but his style of lecture is awesome and he is always willing to answer any math question. Opens up the hw for review and he is accessible during office hours. Great guy and good sense of humor too!!!!
Took Professor McKenzie in the summer and is compassionate about his job. He responds to emails fast and cares about his students. He gives good feedback. Purchased an access code for the course and the video lessons were included also parts of the textbook. Theres a lot of homework but keep up and be ready to learn!
Horrible professor. Do not take this class with him. His lectures are not useful at all. His quizzes are made by his imagination and you can not find them anywhere. very mean if you ask a question.
McKenzie is super easy going and he really wants you to pass but his switch to online wasn't very smooth. He has two types of quizzes, either exactly what he taught in class, or he was trying to make it so you can't cheat and ended up making it so you can't even do it normally. Love him as a person but his quizzes are crazy hard sometimes.
This guy truly cares about his students. I personally hate math but I was able to make it through. He is also willing to work with his students on grades. Doesnt require any unnecessary busy work and allows his students to work at their own pace. A weird but neat dude.
If you are a person who really struggles with math I would recommend you find another professor. Don't get me wrong, he is really good at math, but when it comes to teaching, he writes down the problems but solves them in his head. I hated his teaching. Felt lost all time. 30-50 problems of hw every week + a quiz, be ready! Writing is worst part!
He does not lecture well and is very sarcastic about everything. He skips through steps, so you have to self teach yourself. I dont recommend him if you already struggle with math.
McKenzie was very understanding when I sent him messages. He makes lots of lectures that are crucial for the quizzes. There is a lot of homework on Pearson, but Pearson allows you to submit as many times as possible to perfect your grade. Overall, this class took up a lot of my time because it was condensed into 7 weeks, but I learned a lot.
I sent him an e-mail asking for help because I had a family emergency. When he did not respond for more than a week, I saw that he didn't care. I withdrew from his class, because his workload is alot.
I took this class in fall of 2021 during the covid lockdown. During a test my power went out in my neighborhood and I sent proof to the McKenzie. He told me some rhetoric about "fair is fair" and said that I could not retake the test and I got failing grade on the test even though I sent him proof of the situation that was beyond my control.
Take a class with Ross John Mckenzie Jr. if you hate your life or if you want to hate your life
I sent a msg to the professor that my grandfather had passed away on 6/6/2023 and if I can make up all my assignments on Monday, I waited a week for a response, NONE, so I had to drop the class.
Professor was very helpful throughout the semester! very easy to understand and follow. Be ready to stay focus on the small details, and the assignments death-lines. Overall, great professor, great teaching, and I will take again.
I took this class in 2024 but forgot to write a review. The professor was nice and helpful throughout the semester. The content itself was approachable and well explained (I struggle a lot with math). The tests were doable if you reviewed and attended the practice tests before the exams. If I had to take another Math class, it'd be with him 100%
He is great at math but not great at teaching. He goes really fast, does not give much explanation for concepts, and acts weird when someone asks him a question. I do not click well with his teaching and I have resorted to checking out books from the library. Unless math comes naturally to you, I would not recommend taking him for pre-calc & trig.
