he is an O.K teacher that goes by the book. If you take him, keep your cell phone off!
Mr. McKenzie uses many different techniques to try to help you understand, such as play doh and toys. You need to complete homework or you will not pass this class. He grades homework problems at random.. SO DO THEM ALL!!
If you need a math class, get on the wait list for McKenzie. He takes everyone! Do ALL of your homework because he checks problems at random. If you can't make it to class, let him know. He's really understanding.
Probably one of the best math teachers at Modesto Junior College. He is a little odd but once you get over the whole star wars thing you can actually learn math...UNLIKE PROFESSOR DHILLON WHO IS TRASH!!
I dont know where you guys learned to judge people, but when I took him it was horrible. We asked him to do problems we didnt understand, he would never finish them all the way, even when asked because he didnt want to. Grading methods sucked period.
Though a tad eccentric, he's a great math prof. he uses a lot of different techniques to make sure everyone understands. i wish he transferred to a better college
it will get alittle to get use to the long hair but over all he is a good teacherand him dressing in white every day
He is a good teacher and answers questions you might have. He will go over and over a problem for people that don't understand. The tests are always on what he tells you they are, there are not surprises.
Big geek. Really nice guy and can make math clear for you. I saw him get upset only once, and the student had it coming. It was actually amusing. Take his classes if you can, and if you're a geek too you'll like him.
Talks kind of fast and doesnt always explain everything in full detail, but is always willing to go back over anything you might not have caught again. Generally fun demeanor and makes the class enjoyable. Plan on learning and working for your grade though.
He is ok he chooses the main point of the chapter and misses a lot of info during lecture. Time is spent catering to specific students that ask a lot of questions. When you go home to do your homework you have to figure it out from the book yourself. He changes test dates and test info, nice guy.
I took math 70 four times before I finally passed it with him. I dislike math quite a lot, but he made it a tollerable subject for me. I am a very visual learner and he was good at appealing to that. He has a great sense of humour and obviously loves his job. I highly suggest his class.
McKenzie is the Hazsus of Mjc math. he does so much math that all his clothes turned white cause of the chalk dust. He def knows his stuff and will make sure everyone understands whats going on. Clever little fella too knows how to make fun word problems.

I completely agree with all below, except: I love his grading technique. Class is based on 1000 points, so it is VERY easy to compute your grades. He also keeps an updated (, well done, and detailed) spreadsheet with all your grades. Willing to show you where you are, and what you need at any time.
Will bend over backwards to make sure his students understand. Gives bonus questions on tests like "what is your favorite song?" Cool guy, willing to answer questions outside of class.
This teacher was horrible!! He was not helpful at all. He didn't care about your grade and if you wre failing or not. He was rude and very heartless!
AWFUL. I have never had a teacher seem so uninterested and put-out when I went to their office. He has very poor social skills when dealing with students. Take another teacher.
Teacher was extremely difficult during the last part of the term. Helped only those who asked questions and did not help with homework unless you came to him (or fed him M&M's). Homework was so complicated and he grades only one question to either give u all or no credit. He's confusing and albeit a nice guy, unless your a prodigy, good luck.
Ross is a very interesting person. Most people are intimidated by him, but he really is just a big softie... he is always trying to bribe students with candy to get them into his office.. white is his fav color.. he is not in a cult or anything

He is a blast to have for a teacher. He always makes the class laugh and makes it fun to learn. After discussing something, he will ask if there are any questions. He is such a great teacher. If you need to take a Math class, take his!!!
He IS freakin hilarious! makess math fun!!! He is very clear and able to help with any questionss!
I have been out of school for a few years, and have always had some trouble with Algebra. So far he is very clear, it is easy to follow, and he is very helpful. He also makes class interesting. I think he will be a great teacher.
He is a funny guy. But wake up in morning for his class..really sucks! but overall he is an awesome professor
Love McKenzie. Totally quirky and always willing to answer questions that are asked.
Well, the semester is almost over and he ended up being a great teacher. I really like his teaching methods and how he gives partial credit for trying. I am getting an A in his class and all you have to do is study and do well on the quizes and tests to get an A...not as hard as it may sound.
Great teacher.
Very good teacher...you can tell he likes his job.
He rocks!
If you can get over his appearance..lol. He is a excellent teacher, explains things real well and has awesome grading methods (partial credit, etc.) Always willing to help and wants everyone to know the material, I would highly recommend him.
He is a sexy beast!!! Great teacher
Who knew a math teacher could be this rad?? He's definitely not your average. I would highly reccomend him. He really loves his job and makes math as fun as it could be, while explaining things thoroughly. He's also very approachable and quick to help anyone who needs it.
This teacher is neato! I am definately taking him for Math 90.
Ross is an outstanding teacher. He actually is able to do what no other math teacher has done in my life - help me understand the concepts. He makes the subject interesting and he really wants his students to succeed.
All the complainers especially the one calling him biased & hypocritical are wrong. Every class he takes and answers ANY question you have. Math 122 isnt supposed to be easy, but he makes it clear on what you need to know. He is by far the best Math Teacher I have had, and I hope he teaches 171. To the complainer, Math might not be your thing.
Note: I am currently taking this class now, and I am pretty sure that whoever wrote that McKenzie is one of "the best math professors" is probably the one out of the two people that has an A in the class. ::Derrier Kisser::
Prof McKenzie is a really nice guy. He was a bit unclear at times, for he would write something on the board and be a few steps ahead of the studens because he forgets to explain it. I earned an A in his class, because he curved all the tests that everyone didn't do well in.
His class was not particularly hard (material-wise), but I found him to be very unhelpful and unclear. It was easier to just learn from the book.
VERY UNCLEAR, NEVER EXPLAINED WHAT HE WAS DOING, NOT VERY HELPFUL, HE KNOWS MATH AND EXPECTS STUDENTS TO KNOW WHAT HE'S DOING, BUT DOES'T EXPLAIN IT. WORST PROF I'VE HAD *BEWARE*. HAD TO RETAKE COURSE WITH OTHER PROF.
I agree with the Math 122 comment below. Ross sems to make the material more difficult than it is. He assigns homework assignments that does not help stuents understand the basic concept of the chapter.I will never take him again even, if he teaches Dungeons and Dragons 101.
He's a funny nerd who always has candy. Literally! He's a good teacher.. but if you're used to step by step instruction.. it may be hard. He skips ahead of some "basic" steps and that may lose some people who arent too good in math. Overall, good teacher. EASY quizes and Tests. NO calculator, but it's basic basic numbers.
I found him to be available whenever I needed help. I am terrible at math and I passed this class, thanks to his teaching.
I was pretty good at math in high school, but this guy made me want to cry every time I went to do my homework at night. He makes everything so complicated and has a weird teaching style. Obsessed with his clothes, "total nerdiness," and immature interests, such as action figures and video games. TRIPPED a student on purpose!
STUDENTS BEWARE!! this guys is horrible teacher he sucks. he doesn't have any patients for the students. which is what a teacher should have when teaching any class. his test are hard and he barely explains anything. if u actually want to pass math 90 i DON'T recommend this guy
Definetly an interesting person. Class was not to bad, tests or quizzes every week and a 300 point final. Assigns hw that is really hard and doesn't really go with the material, but overall he explains the material pretty clearly.
unclear unhelpful man who does not live on planet earth! unless you are an alien who uses the metric system do not take his class. i have dropped him twice and taken other teaches to get A's in the same course DO NOT TAKE HIM!!
He makes it hard to follow along; he's good in math, so he skips many steps and not everyone can follow him. When a student asks him a question, he verbally explains it without showing work or answers with, "Just because" while looking at the student as if he or she is dumb and moves on to the next problem, which makes it uncomfortable for other students to approach him.
He doesn't always explain all the steps for everything and goes over things quickly but is willing to clarify and answer peoples questions collected homework once a week and gave either a test or quiz every week
I Love this guy. He is a bit out there but very interesting to listen to. He is willing to help you with what ever you need. I agree that he skips alot of steps because he knows what he's doing but you should be able to follow if you pay attention. He's a good guy and only wants to help. The tests are easy and if you study well you should do fine.
He was really wierd. He spent more of our class time bragging about how smart he is then he did teaching it. Ya I'll give it to him that he knows what he teaches and thats always good to have in a teacher lol but he was WAY too cocky n zoomed through problems without explainin them. Very Strict. Very big Dork.I wouldn't retake his class if u paid!
He is a hard grader and will cut you no slack. Goes too fast and felt lost. Don't take unless you plan on having no life.
It's me again!!! Math 1588 Made a mistake its Math 70 Dont take this professor. he failed over half the class in fall 2008.. A teacher is suppose to be someone who teaches not play games with students minds. i wld never take him again & my fds won't either. Not a easy class very hard and he loves to confuse you and doesn't like to explain.
He's very clear, helpful, tells us everything that's gonna be on the test. (NOT!!!)
There isn't much for me to explain just by saying that HE IS THE WORST MATH TEACHER EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think Mr. McKenzie is an acquired taste. He's interesting; likes comic books, and has been wearing white since 1983. He likes questions, and is always willing to help and explain things for you, just have to ask. I like math, so this class wasn't too bad.
He ruined math for me. I came into this class excited about math from my two previous teachers and he killed it. He's condescending and won't work with students to help them understand. Avoid at all costs.
I watched all semester for skipping steps. This professor went step by step, he stuck to what the book was laying out. He built our class up from the basics. He spent extra time on the areas we asked for the most (factoring, word problems) he was always willing to answer questions and review.
He is a genious but helpless into passing you and he does expect you to be as smart as him which is pretty cocky of him. Not Recommended!!!!!!!
THIS GUY IS THE WORST MATH TEACHER IN CALIFORNIA!!!!!!!! HE RUINED MATH FOR ME AND THE REST OF HIS STUDENTS.
All I have to say is, if you are registered, drop and get your money back now before it is too late.
Dont take him if you want to waste your money by failing his course. Seriously do not take this joker!!!
Do NOT take this teacher. yes, he knows math very well, but he does not have the patience to teach. When one student asked a question, he said "that is what the book is for, read it." And,On the first day of school a piece of food flew out of his mouth nearly landing on my desk.
WORST MATH TEACHER EVER!!!!!!!!!
Mr. McKenzie is an awesome prof! I took his 5 week summer math70 course and I got an A in it. He is very helpful and if anyone asked a question he answered it. I disagree with every negative comment about him on here he is a great teacher and I'll definitely be taking math90 with him!
Good teach, who knows math well. Funny and interesting, but if u come to his class 2 be babied and have pity 4 u, he won't give it 2 u. he's very clear but has very little patience 4 people who don't know the basic's or who aren't listening, tho if u ask a question that he just answered he'll still answer u If u come to work you'll be fine.
So I'm sitting in his class right now and I hate it. He talks too fast and if he doesn't feel like answering a question he won't. He skipped my question and I ended up failing a quiz. There's other teachers so pick them, even if you have no other choice DON'T PICK HIM. Garbage teacher and gives hella homework. The homework he gives has100 problems
Mckenzies class wasn't hard. Actually very easy. I thought it was easier than math 90. I wish he was teaching trig this semester. i would recommend him. The people who say he isn't helpful probably didn't take the time to get help. And he does assign a lot of homework but its a five unit class its expected. He is very patientand will answer your Q'
Don't take this guy if you wanna fail his hard final. he is the worst instructor ever!
Teacher is condescending towards students so don't ask any questions because he won't help you he'll just try to make you look stupid in front of everyone. Will tell class first day it takes 7yrs to remove a teacher or fire them. This should raise red flags in your head about the attitude he has toward teaching you as a student.
Only take this class if you want to fail. I would not recommend this teacher to anyone.
McKenzie is a good professor. He can come off mean by telling students that are failing to change their majors, but he speaks the truth. He makes clear what he expects you to know on tests and weekly quizzes, and will help with homework questions. Study hard, and your grade will reflect your efforts.
I love everything about him. An absolutely marvelous math instructor. If you're honest with him, he'll be honest with you. Don't be afraid to ask him for help; he'll be there for you. Clean instruction and willing to go over things in more detail when asked. In a world of mediocre math teachers, McKenzie is a breath of fresh air.
Professor McKEnzie was very clear. He showed you exactly how to do the problems(sometimes more than one way)and then how to go back to check your answers for mistakes. You HAVE to do the homework, take good notes, and come to class every day-DUH!! You get an A if you try and do all the work!! Again-DUH!!
Mr. McKenzie is a REALLY good math teacher. He may come off rude to some, but he really does care about his students. He is more than willing to help you if you visit him during his office hours, and will always answer any questions that you may have. If you work hard, then he will help you succeed. I highly recommend him for math 70 and 90.
If he is asked a question he is not helpful at all. Instead of answering he would make the student feel like a retard infront of everyone. He should be answering and teaching; that is his job.
McKenzie liked to give students the run-around. I had an issue with my code working for the online homework and he never helped me, leaving me unable to do any of the homework and getting a D grade. I will say he explains things very well and will go over anything you ask, but his tests were ridiculous.... problems 10x harder than what we practiced
I'll admit he's a pretty good math teacher, BUT he is very hard! I would recommend taking someone else because he is tough! The Hw is not worth anything which makes it even worse. It's all down to:Test(about every 3weeks or so), weekly quizes, and everyday quizes. He needs to realize that math is not an easy course for a lot of people.
Prior to taking his class, I had read the reviews and wasn't sure if they were being fair, but after failing in his class, I would say that he is not concerned in the slightest with students that struggle with the work. Unless you are the type that has the time to study every single day for this class, you might as well forget it.
Terrible teacher! Avoid at all costs and I'm not just saying this cuz I'm bad at math, I am a math tutor. This is THE most inconsistent teacher I have ever had. He's just a nerd getting back at the world for his nerdy childhood and unless you're a fellow nerd with common interest you have no hope of getting an A.
Professor McKenzie is exceedingly patient and thorough. He has consistently provided clear steps for each topic that has been introduced throughout the semester. Contrary to previous reviews, he only becomes frustrated with overtly flippant students. Also, extra points awarded for endearing nerdiness and great hair.
He comes off as a nice and genuine teacher, however he is rude and inconsiderate of his students. If you need to get clarity on the material covered he does not answer. This man yells at his students, belittles them, and tells them that they CAN'T PASS. If you are proficient in math then he's an okay instructor otherwise do not take this man.
Prof. McKenzie was the first math teacher I've had in a long time that I could actually understand and learn from. He uses "nerdy" examples for problems that could throw off people who aren't into that, but for me it made lectures more interesting. I'm pretty bad at math and I got a B, just show up and do the work and you'll get by.
Great professor who knows his stuff. Very funny. Expect to study on your own and take good notes during lectures, unless your a math wiz. He has chocolate candy in his office if you need a sugar rush to get your brain ready. He will work with you but you have to do your part too. This professors' individuality is inspiring and refreshing.
He's helpful & understands life happens. He always asked if there were questions & took the time to go back & walk through step by step in lecture. He made himself available after class and during office hours. He really cares about math (and D&D) and wants the students to learn. He made the class fun & I would definitely take him again. He's cute.
He is an easy grader. Sometimes. If you've taken Dorn, take McKenzie! I passed with a B, but i know i could have done better! Just pay attention & definitely ask questions! He is not mean whatsoever, hes actually funny. Go over your notes only!!! Bc he takes everything in the notes & puts it on tests, quizzes, and final.
The homework is online. Expect to spend a couple hours a week working on it. His lectures can be pretty funny. He's a super nice guy and FUNNY; easy to ask for help. Do the homework and you'll pass the class no problem.
If you are into Star Wars, Star Trek, and other movies, then his teaching style might be good for you. Since me and my friend never seen those movies AND have a hard time understanding math his style did not work for us since he always compared math problems to light sabers and chubacas which made it more difficult. We asked for help but unclear
Short quizzes everyday, attendance mandatory. Lots of homework for the summer class and hard tests but he's hilarious and helpful.
Quizzes once a week and four exams. Expect to do a couple hours of homework a week, or it'll pile up fast. BUT, he's an amazing teacher and makes learning math really understandable. He's also hilarious, and makes a ton of nerdy jokes! Definitely the only teacher to take, because I wouldn't have passed with anyone else.
I hate math, never been good at it, always felt intimidated by it. Thankfully McKenzie is patient and made math easy to understand. Yes he is a nerd but a funny cool one. Expect homework and attendance quiz everyday. This class does require effort so if you struggle with math attend the SI sessions whenever you think you need help. Good luck!
Amazing teacher for calculus! I'd retake his class any day any time. VERY welcoming and answers questions really well.
Awesome teacher! I've never been confident in math but this guy gave me the confidence to pass calculus! He's very helpful if you go to his office hours and explains things in the most understandable way possible.
An intelligent instructor who's hilarity permeates through every lecture and exam story problem (and D&D anecdote). Attendance quizzes are taken every day (easy), plenty of exam review, and awards as much partial credit as possible on test answers. Easy-going and always willing to re-explain; I cannot fathom why there are negative reviews on here!
Has an interesting geeky sense of humor. Do the homework, pay attention to the lecture and you will pass the class. He is clear in explaining the lecture. I like he pauses and ask if there is any questions before continuing to solve a problem. He might have a little sense of humor consider to be harsh but it really isn't.
He is an awesome math teacher that I have ever seen in college. He has briefly lectures and you can feel his examples in word problem and understand them very well.
One of my favorite teachers, he is so funny and teaches so clearly making it easy to understand and learn.
Great teacher. Just do your part and study--you'll pass.
It's weekly quizzes but they aren't too bad. Stay on top of your game and pass each quiz or at least have a solid understanding of each chapter.
He was a good teacher, who would try to be funny. His exams were quite hard, but then again Ive never been great at math. I wouldve passed if I had paid more attention.
I thought he was a great professor. I did not pass his class because I had too heavy of a course load so I didn't get to focus as much as I needed to in his class, but if I did I would have gotten a way better grade. He responds fast to questions and he offers extra credit on the tests.
I absolutely despise math. But professor Mckenzie is very good at explaining he is very clear and hilarious. Fantastic math professor
The best math course I have ever taken and it is all because of McKenzie. He is skilled enough on the subject that he is able to perform all lectures off the top of his head. He writes everything out on the board so it is important to show up. He makes the quizzes and exams extremely fair and creative. Do the homework and show up and you will pass.
This is the second professor that I've taken at MJC and by far the best. He was very good at explaining the math problems and how to work them out. His test and even quizzes where very easy. When ever he gives you a study guide it will be the same as on the test or quiz the only thing that will change will be the numbers. His class is very easy.
If you aren't a pro at math, don't bother. Grades very harshly .
I took McKenzie over the summer, so only a 6 week course and it was great! There were 2 test and 1 final. He gave a bonus question on each test and a gave study guides for all 3, that were almost identical to the tests. I'm not the best at math so I was nervous about online but it was great and I regretted not taking him the second half of summer
Took the online Math 29-89 accelerated class. And online homework you can do over until you get it right. Exams are in class, he will send a study guide but I personally think that doesnt help because on the real exam he includes questions that we WERENT READY FOR. Grades very strict and will dock points any chance he gets. Dont recommend.
I thought Mr. McKenzie's class was very straight forward, he posts his own videos with specific examples and ones to watch out for. Homework is fair, he gave approximately 10-15 problems per assignment. There are two tests and a final that he gives sample tests for that closely resembles what you'll see on those tests. Highly recommended!
Professor McKenzie was the worst professor I have ever had. He taught me how great I was to pass this class in spite of him. I sent him six(YES, SIX) messages asking for feedback on tests and got no response. I ended up having to call him out in class to actually get some words of how I can do better on his final. How is he allowed to teach?
Took math 29 & math 89 both were hybrid. For someone who hates math & doesn't always get it I passed both classes with my lowest being a B. You have to try with both classes but he provides enough guidance. Replied any question I had. Study guides help, they aren't exactly like the test but are similar. Study word problems & you'll pass test.
He is one of my favorite math teachers I have ever taken. He gives plenty of examples and will do more if anyone asks for them (even specific hw questions). He gives an overview on what to expect each test and even has dedicated test review days the day before. Id recommend him to anyone really!
I had him in the spring semester and he has been one of my favorite teachers in college so far. His teaching style matched well with my learning style mainly because he provided many examples. He is very understanding. Once I had to skip his class because my mental health was not doing the best. I talked to him about it and he totally understood.
I have taken McKenzie for two semesters now and have really enjoyed his teaching style. He answers any questions the class has, even when they get a little repetitive, he answers each one. He is considerate with grading and is clear about how he gives points. Also, days before tests, he outlines the whole thing so you know what exactly to study for
He made math simple. No hw even though you have to study for sure. Hes very nice and easy to ask questions. He has lots of ways to explain stuff. I was never bored in his lectures. Nerd points for days. Just an all around good class. Not a giveaway though.
Gives bad reviews for tests(IF AT ALL) Need I mention the SI who was NO help; went to regular tutors instead. He's funny if you're looking for funny go ahead, but he's also lazy. Each homework assignment takes an hour to finish because he uses MyMathLab Had office hours during SI I was good at math so I pushed thru but if you're not, don't bother
He is a very solid professor, During the COVID 19 situation he continued lecturing using zoom. He has review days and answers the same question just to make sure students understand. The structure of his class is also really good he does care about his students learning math. He is cool during office hours too, into Pokemon. Overall good class!!!
Math is very hard and he is good at showing you how to do math. He takes his time lecturing and will stop in case anyone wants to ask questions. He always has office hours and is more than willing to teach more if you go and visit him. He is a fair grader and if you fall behind you can always count on his review sessions he is a great professor.
I took this class 3 semesters before I transferred. Just came back to say this class was very helpful in building a foundation for Calculus. Mckenzie teaches in an interesting way, homework is assigned from the book not mathlab. So, it wasn't a complete drag, he takes his time teaching so you actually absorb the information and he has review days!
Math is not an enjoyable subject for most however Professor McKenzie does make it bearable. I took the the course online in the summer so it was very fast paced but with tools and lecture videos provided it is possible to pass just as long as you put in the work also. I would definitely recommend Professor McKenzie.
One of the worst professors i have ever had in my life. on my first quiz which we had it about precalc and trig I did my answers all by myself and he gave me -0- and told me i cheated and i should stop it. he should prove that i cheated in this class and not answering my emails makes me more mad. i passed both those classes with A+
He can't even teach and he calls himself professor? yet he says that i cheated in his class which he doesn't like anyone getting good grades in it. Is that even possible? i should email the dean and tell them about what kind of person he is. don't ever take it with him.
He is a jerk. I took this class because he was the best out of the worst options that we were given. There is no homework in the class itself, but don't let that fool you. There are weekly quizzes that are given and he is a very tough grader. He makes it practically impossible for you to get a perfect grade, if you do he assumes you cheated.
A full jerk, he doesn't understand that we are in a pandemic. He doesn't give hw but he give a quiz every week that is soo hard. The quizzes are way different from the material he goes over during the class, he accused me of cheating even tho I didn't, he said "I had similar answers to some other guy" like wth.
I haven't taken a math class in years and Professor McKenzie made it a pretty enjoyable experience. He had short lecture videos for every lesson, which personally I wish they were longer and more fleshed out. There was homework, a quiz, and a discussion post every week. I'm not great with math but I was able to understand his short lecture videos!
Professor Mckenzie is an awesome professor I liked how he lectured. When it came to quizzes during COVID he made them more difficult to hold people accountable. He was very fair and clear with his grading policy and rubric. I learned a lot and feel fully prepared for Calculus 2. Awesome professor and if you put in the work you will do well!!!!
I took this class with Professor McKenzie twice. The first time was a hybrid and I did not do good due to social anxiety during tests, but then I took it when it was completely online during the pandemic and did good. He gives good feedback and is definitely willing to help when people need it. You do have to work for your grade though
I took Professor McKenize during summer semester. Yes, it was a short class and I already suck at math. I thought I was doing well, until I got sick and ended up in the ICU during the final. I was felt like I wasn't believed. I was never offered to take the final at a later time. I did end up passing with a C. Math takes a lot of work.
Itook his math 89 class in summer and was very disappointed normally when you take a class and turn in every assignment you on average get a c in the class. I failed the last test that was given so my grade needed up being a 69.something all I remember was I was so close to a C and he did not pass me. Always accused people of cheating! worst class
Professor McKenzie focuses his Precalc-1/Trig (with distance formula introduced) on STEM students. In person, apart from pandemic. mymathlab, (participation grade, significant). Vendetta on Chegg, writes own tests, 30min+10 to scan/upload, considers Desmos graphing cheating, but uses in lecture. Sketch graph or fail! Review trig on khan-acad first!
GL taking him. I took the 7-week course. Homework assignments weren't bad, there were discussions every week with 2 response and a couple of assignments on MyLab that were due every Wednesday/Saturday night. I mainly had a difficult time understanding his quizzes/finals, they didn't make sense to me. Although I understood the assignments perfectly.
I had him for Trig and it was frustrating. I felt like I had to teach myself. The lectures were hard to understand because he would say "you should've learned this already" or "you'll learn this in your next math class" instead of giving a brief example. He goes off on tangents as well that is not related to math, taking time off lectures.
I took his class during covid lockdown in 2021. I was taking a test and the power went out in my neighborhood. I explained my situation and showed proof of why I was not able to finish the test. When I asked if I could retake the test he gave me some rhetoric about "not being fair" and said I could not retake the test. Despite me showing proof.
Your probably contemplating picking a class with Ross Mckenzie because all the good real Professors classes are fully booked, but this man is very egotistical and explains things poorly your better off having google and youtube as a teacher, even if he has one of your required classes your better off just waiting. You will regret it!
Homework load is very much manageable. He explains topics during lectures which half of the time I don't understand. Then proceeds to make comments like, "you shouldn't take that long to finish the quiz" when in fact I do take that long. He thinks everyone has his understanding of Math. Do not take him if you have a hard time understanding Math.
Tons of homework that is worth very little grade-wise. Even if you get A's on every homwork assignment, you can't afford to do rough on the tests at all. Brought my grade so far down and I almost failed because of my terrible testing abilities lol. After spending so many hours on homework and it not really doing much for my grade, I'm a bit salty.
Terrible class! He basically askes questions on the final you didn't learn to do. When your not understanding something you can meet with him but he doesn't even explain it right, The Pearson website teaches you then he goes and try's to asking thing on the final you didn't even learn to do.
Boring lectures. Was easier to just teach myself with the Pearson tutorials. Homework means nothing but is 98% of the work. Quiz questions are made up by the teacher. Got A's on every assignment but couldn't make the first 2 zoom quizzes and now cannot bring my grade up enough to pass in time. If you're a bad tester or can't make the quizzes, drop.
During the exams many people struggle. We're not even allowed to have one of those 'cheat sheets' to help during an exam. You can't afford to fail the exams, otherwise it's just an automatic fail since other assignments do little to nothing on improving the grade. Can't retake any quiz or exam.
It seems like less and less people show up after each exam. Also the only day I was absent the teacher decided to grade based on whether or not you were there that day. I was sick.
Take this class if you like exams where you don't know if you'll get a study guide or not, like having no cheat sheets, and where the questions are harder versions of what you were taught (so you're left in the dark). If you also like unfunny millennial humor and copious amounts of online homework that will take you eons to complete, take this prof
Told you need to cintribute around 22hrs a week to do homework that doesnt affect your grade. He kinda expects everyone know have "Basic Knowledge" that would only be known to someone whos proffesion is already mathematics. We're not him and he kinda shows that as it is seen. Loves Transformers. Topic Heavy.
Professor McKenzie's class is challenging but manageable. The lectures and textbook are helpful, and unstuck ai made studying much easier. Stay engaged, and you'll likely pass.
Did not respond or seen to knowledge any of the gmails sent. Does not work with you and makes the class more difficult.
He will go through problems, pause, look at the class, and ask, " Does anyone have any questions about this problem?" If the room goes silent, he will follow it up with, "Does anyone have any questions about anything at all?" He's very flexible about any questions you have, but just make sure you sharpen your arithmetic/basic algebra skills.
Very good about asking if anyone has questions about the lecture or anything at all. Covered material on midterms and final in lecture before which helped. He's very communicative and was very helpful. However, some of the material wasn't lecture so make sure to watch Pearson lectures. Overall, I think he is a good professor. Would take again.
I absolutely despise math, but I really enjoyed this class. He made it so easy to re learn math again and he was overall a great teacher. If I had to take math again I would definitely take Ross. Little awkward but if you talk to him about whatever he's great at that.
Professor McKenzie is great. If you are somebody who wants to get the work done, take his class. He is decent and explains well. Always available at office hours. Yes, he sometimes goes on short tangents about some movies, but who cares? He was a good teacher and I will take him again. It was a heavy class so don't fall behind on work.
this professor puts all his grading into exams. doing the homework helps but it is not most of your grade. his lectures are long and messy. what he teaches us does not fully help with the exams. he does allow cheat sheets and reviews what might be on the test, but the homework does not match the exams.
