He is very smart, pretty easy, and he makes the content very interesting.
He is a specialist in paleoanthropology and expexts you to be. His matching on his tests is so hard and he expects you to remeber way too many details. His lectures are a snooz-fest. His personality is cool but his class sucks.
Dr. Sackett is a great teacher! He gets really into anthropology(will pretend he's a monkey, shows skeletons, etc.)Make sure you take good notes, his tests are similar each time, and is good about replying to emails. Just go to class! I think he knows who comes and who doesn't, yet there isnt a roll
Very entertaining, has wonderful teaching methods. Not very approachable. Organized, knowledgable, will answer any question you have. Not very open to debate. Gets his points across very clearly and succinctly. Is a fun guy, and not too difficult. Recommended.
Dr. Sackett is one my my favorite teachers I've had at this school. He seems to be very knowledgeable in anthropology. He also lets you play with bones.
One of the best professors at the University. His class rocked. One of my favorite classes ever.

Ross Sackett was so good of a teacher, I decided to change my major. He is extremely entertaining .
This class is awesome. If you take this class, get Sackett. I'm actually considering this a a major now. Ah, the ape imitations. He's a really cool guy.
he is a awsome teacher youll need to take good notes because the tests cover a lot of material but he does a good job explaining the material highly recomended if you like anthropology take sackett
This was my favorite class I've taken so far. I HIGHLY recommend this professor! He's funny and easy going and makes what could be a boring class interesting and a lot of fun. He is VERY knowledgable on the subject. If you want to see a professor hop around the room like a monkey (or if you just want to learn more about the subject) he's your man!
This Instructor and his class was the one thing that made being displaced from New Orleans bearable. He was highly passionate about his subject and willing to crawl on the floor or hop around to get a point across. His tests are easy if you pay attention and take notes. And when class started to get tight he gave us printouts of his lecture notes.
He's a terrible teacher. Explains the subject in such a convoluted way that you have trouble understanding it even if you did before. On top of that, once you do understand it he refuses to acknowledge your answers. I have never had such an unprofessional professor in my entire college career.
Funny, informative, and understanding. He approaches the subject with consideration of those who disagree, and does his best not to offend people. In my opinion, he does a fantastic job. I intend to sign up for his other classes the first chance I get.
This class was absolutely hard if you did not listen, study, or come to class. The teacher overall is awesome. He summarize the whole book and acts it out(awesome) I highly recommend him because he do make sense and implants the material in your head.
This was an amazing class! Its the only class I actually looked forward to coming to. If it wasn't for the fact that I have no idea what to do with an anthro degree, this class would make me change majors! Oh, and he is NOT difficult at all as long as you come to class! I never studied for any of his tests and made a high A.
One of the Best professors I have ever had, and probably one of the best at the U of M. Very entertaining lectures, but also extremley full of information. Be prepared to take lots of notes, but dont worry he also gives handouts on the more difficult lectures. Not easy, but very fair. And yes he does immitate an ape to make a point.
He is a very good teacher. He is very intelligent, and knows everything about what he is teaching and probably everything else there is to know. He is funny, which makes his class interesting. I struggle in the class cuz anthropology just doesn't make sense to me, but he makes me interested in it regardless.
one of the best teachers i have ever had. keeps you the entire time, but because the class is so interesting, it flies by. knows what he is talking about. go in with an open mind. gives a really good curve, almost a letter grade.
THIS MAN IS SO BORING...HE WILL DRIVE U CRAZY!!! NOTHING HE SAYS MAKE ANY SENSE. DO NO BUY THE BOOK BECASUE HE DOES NOT USE IT. PLEASE DO NO TAKE THIS TEACHER!!!!
I totally loved him. Just a great teacher, I recommend him.
This was an interesting class that had two professors. One from the history department, and Ross Sackett. He is a good professor and knows everything about physical anthropology. To me, the subject is enthralling so I loved the whole thing.
I love him. I only took this class because I loved ANTH 1100 so much, which was taught by Dr. Sackett. Amazing teacher. I'm going to try to find another class with him next semester.
as long as you come to class and copy exactly what he writes on the board you will be ok
Very funny guy! Adds a lot of cool extra information and is well-versed in his field. Attending lectures is a must and good notes help you on the exams..no quizzes. very kind and a cool guy
Dr. Sackett is a great professor. He's very knowledgeable about evolutionary processes, and he explains things well, sometimes acting them out. The 3 tests aren't too hard if you take notes; test 3 is the final exam. He doesn't really use the textbook much; but it is very interesting, regardless, so read it (some test questions do come from it).
Dr. Sackett is one of the best professors i ever had. i explains everything in a clear and precise manner. i took some of the classes he taught only because he taught them. he's an amazing teacher.
I really liked the classes I took from him. They were so interesting and he's also very nice!
Awesome Professor! He is clear, passionate, and helpful.
Dr. Sackett is a really good professor. I took this class because of Gen Ed. It was a little more difficult for me because I was not interested in the subject but I managed a B+. If you are passionate about anthropology take him. If not take someone else.
Sackett rocks his class. Jumping, crawling, awesomeness. You can't comprehend.
Dr. Sackett is THE best professor in I've ever had. I'm too shy to talk to him myself, but I have heard he is super helpful after class if you need anything at all. He is somewhat of a genius, builds telescopes in his spare time, and still manages to be personable and interesting and LIVELY in his teachings. I adore him!
He knew what he was talking about. Most of his tests come from his lectures, not the book. Although, there are things on the tests that are in the book. The final wasn't comprehensive. The rests we 50?s each. He usually filled classtime, but never really called on people. He had fun visuals. He tended to DOWN Christianity.
If you take this class, take Dr. Sackett!! He makes it so interesting. You DO need the book bc there are a few questions on each test which come from it. He gives study guides and there is NO homework. Sometimes he gives the notes in a handout which is helpful also. The tests are easy if you fill out the study guide!
definitely one of my favorite teachers everr! so smart, easy, nice.. go to class- he makes it interesting! LISTEN to him, take notes, review what's on the study guide and you'll get an easy A! highly highly recommend him to anyone and everyone!
I love him. He's the whole reaosn I became an anthropology major. The entire class was fascinating.
He's a great guy but I think my expectations of the the class was too high. I opened the book and was fascinated, but he used powerpoints not the book. Overall, the class was kind of interesting, I just didn't care for it as much as I thought I would and I thought he was boring. All in all, I thought he was alright.
AMAZING!!
All of the classes he teaches are absolutely amazing. Climbs up walls, crawls on floors. Great!! Very interested in teaching and is very personable and helpful. Is an Agnostic Evolutionist so he will try to question what you believe. However, the pushing only makes your stance on what you believe stronger. GO to class, Listen, don't over think.
Love him. Love everything about him. Thinking about being him for Halloween.
The BEST professor I've had at U.Memphis. I always looked forward to going to his class. Not to mention, good looking.
Fun, charismatic, and extremely passionate and knowledgeable about the subject. He will make you laugh; make you think; and leave you wanting more.I would take any class he offers. His tests are easy if you come to class and not too many required assignments.Just dont drop the meteorite!(or a bottle cap while the meteorite is being passed around)
Sackett is such an awesome teacher! I freakin love him. he is funny, helpful, and extremely intelligent. He REALLY knows his stuff. Show up to class and take really good notes. Don't be lazy or you wont do well...esp if you dont have much experience with biology.
Dr. Sackett is worth your time! He's a great person, a phenominal teacher, and totally passionate about his subject. Study for the tests; he encourages critical thinking! I only wish I could take more classes from him. Wow!!!
Wow!!! Totally worth your time:)
Absolutely love him! Had him spring 2011 and can't wait for something else of his I can take. Go to class and take notes, I personally never read the book and made a B+. No essays. Funny, smart, knows his stuff. Don't be offended he's an agnostic, he will respect all views. He still helps me in my career path today.
Oh how I love this man! Not only is he adorable and quirky and fun, but he really is passionate about what he teaches. You have to go to class, but I can honestly say I've never missed one because I WANTED to be there. He is a great professor, and you'll be doing yourself a favor by taking his class.
Professor Sackett is a nice, clever, and hilarious man. He really enjoys what he teaches and tries to make it interesting for his students as well. you don't really use the book, so you HAVE to come to class to pay attention and get a good grade. He is also very willing to help you outside of class if you have difficulty understanding a concept.
Very very hard tests. It's an interesting class, and he is a VERY interesting person. Attendance is very mandatory, if you miss one class you'll do very poorly on the test.
Everyone raved about how great of a teacher he was, so I decided to take him. I wasn't really impressed. He's nice and extremely intelligent. His test are a bit on the difficult side, and you must write down notes or you won't do well. You also shouldn't miss class if you can help it. He was okay, but I wouldn't take him again.
I absolutely love Dr, Scakett. Just come to class, take notes, bask in his magnificent lectures, and you;ll be fine!
The man himself is a good instructor, and obviously an expert on the subjects he teaches, but the material is so dull that unless you are a true fan of biological anthropology, you'll find it difficult to remain awake in class. Tests are all multiple choice and can be rather difficult. Overall it's a worthy class, but prepare to study boring stuff.
I absolutely love Dr. Sackett. I'm in his Biol Anth class right now, and it is by far the most interesting class I have ever taken. It has actually made me question my Biology major, because it interests me THAT much. I may decide to major in Anthropology just because of this teacher. Insanely interesting, helpful, and tests are easy.
Very good professor! loved the class it can be really interesting if you actually pay attention.
This is a very easy class. You need to attend class, take notes , and at least look over the chapter. The study guide he gives out is very accurate to the tests. He is a good teacher and shares his personal experiences with field work. Easy A as long as you attend class and don't use your cell phone in class!
Fairly easy course. You can miss 4 classes without penalty, but I suggest you attend class. 3 exams. Very interesting class and he gives a study guide that if you study, you will do very well on the test. Also, he curves his grades a lot, to the point where an 85 is an A
Loved Dr.Sackett. Very interesting class and I looked forward to going to his class. Attendance is mandatory!
Sackett is an excellent professor however his class is pretty difficult. He only has 3 grades. All being equally weighted exams. I rarely missed class and studied pretty well and received low grades on all tests. He grades mostly on his lectures. The most challenging part about the class was that there was so much information to learn in 1 semester
He's definitely a great professor! The material is pretty tough though. Basically the entire class grade comes from the 3 exams which are VERY hard. He does provide good study guides though and he grades on a curve so if you go to class and study, you can definitely pass. If you need Bio. Anthropology, definitely take him!!
As long as you are not overly formal with Dr. Sackett, he is an approachable, knowledgeable and cool guy. He knows something helpful on just about any subject and I love that he treats students more like friendly acquaintances rather than the rigid student-teacher "professional" way, which can (and is often) intimidating and off-putting.
Great class, attendance is mandatory but I wanted to be there because we covered fascinating material every day and the professor makes it even more interesting and easier to grasp by by detailed explanation, passing fossils around the class and even jumping and crawling around to demonstrate how different species moved based on their anatomy
Best class and my favorite professor. Must take lots of notes but hes never boring.
Sackett could talk about futons and tomatoes and keep me interested. You can tell he loves what he's talking about and he has field experience. He's by far the best teacher I've ever had. Your grade correlates with your attendance. If I were to take another Anthropology class I would definitely take him!
Sackett is interesting, true enough but being interesting is not going to help you pass his class; he assigns three hard exams that covers extremely long lectures. he gives grading curve but its not as effective;he assigns no extra credit
He says this on the first day, but if you go to class and take a lot of notes, you will have an easier time in the class. His lectures are lengthy, but very informative. Three tests that include stuff from lectures and the book. Loved this class.
I would recommend everyone from any major to take this class! He is the most enthusiastic & inspiring teacher I've ever had. He is a really really smart guy & is FULL of interesting stories. The subject matter is easy to understand he puts his all into. This class changes how you look at life and challenges what you think you know about evolution.
One of the best professors ever. Wants you to pass but Anthropology is not an easy topic. It does require work and studying. Not an easy A but I would take the class just because of Sackett. It is still very possible to pass the class with a good grade. ATTENDANCE IS IMPORTANT Miss more than 4 days, your grade is affected. Miss 9 days and fail.
He is a great professor who makes class interesting. However, if you aren't interested in Anthropology it will be easy to zone out during class. If you do not read the chapters in the book and listen to his lectures then you will not pass the tests. He talks really fast so I decided to buy a recorder to listen to the lectures later.
This is the man who convinced me to major in Anthropology over subjects I thought I was more interested in. His love for the subject shows in every lecture - even when he's sick, he's animated and engaging. I don't think he knows how much of an impact he had on me, as I wasn't an ANTH major, but he changed my life irreversibly for the better.
AWESOME!! One of my favorite professors of being here for 4 years at Memphis. I highly recommend taking this class. You won't want to miss because the info is so interesting! Study the study guide, go to class, take notes and you will pass!
Great teacher. Lectures were long. Take really good notes and study ALOT for the tests. The class is not bad though, I enjoyed it. A couple of homework assignments in the first two weeks of class, but that's it.
He's an amazing professor and is easily in my top five. His lectures are heavy, but if you pay attention, read the assignments, and go over your notes you'll pass. He has definitely influenced me into considering to being an ANTH major. He really cares about teaching and is enthusiastic about doing so. Not much homework is assigned either.
Great professor and a great advisor to boot. Really good at making confusing topics exciting.
THE BEST OF THE BEST I LIKE HIM SO SO SO MUCH, HE IS VERY NICE . ALWAYS SMILING, HE KNOWS WHAT HIS DOING VERY SMART I ENJOYED HIS CLASS.
Sackett is one of my favorite professors of all time and one of the best at the U of M. He is incredibly knowledgeable and his lectures are very interesting. He has so much passion and excitement in what he does. If you go to class, take notes and study, you will do well. Highly recommend! Never missed a class because it was so interesting!
Dr. Sackett is great! He really cares about this class and his lectures for this class are never boring! He goes the extra mile to help you understand it and make it interesting. However, you need to go to class to pass period.... Just study his lectures, study guide topics, and make flash cards and you will do fine.
I loved this class so much and really enjoyed the teacher he made everything really interesting and he was very friendly and funny. The key to passing is just paying attention and studying the study guides everything is very clean cut and clear in this class!
Truly cares about anthropology. Great personality! Tests are hard so be sure to study!!
We were asked to read from the book for more information, but that's it. He is a real funny guy, but the tests are just naturally hard. Come on. Its fossils and dirt, its going to be a little challenging. But hey, at least pick a teacher that has a lot of charisma and enthusiasm! 10/10 rating!
He's always enthusiastic, funny, and tries to keep the lectures interesting. A "study guide" is provided before each tests, which mentions the topics on the test and it makes things a whole lot easier. However, the lectures are heavy and there are only 3 (really hard) tests, so you don't want to miss classes! Definitely recommend him!
His class is challenging but his lectures are very engaging. He's really a stand up professor,I'd highly recommend him!
Dr. Ross was by far the best professor I have had since I transferred to the U of M. The class was pretty intense since I'd never had an Anthropology class before, but it was bearable. Also please DO NOT SKIP CLASS! Missing one class period is equivalent to missing a whole week of lectures in my opinion. I would definitely take him again!
He is a great professor, really knows everything about anthropology and is very passionate about it. Very lecture heavy and showing up for class is your best bet!
