intense course, notes somewhat difficult to understand

Taking notes for 3hour/week is boring!!!!!
Notes are chunky, and sometimes a pain in the ass to understand.
I really enjoyed this teacher, he kept his course up to do and tries to help
In the first class, he basically said most of us would fail.
acts like he's got something to prove. keeps average low

BIO 108 lecture was a little dry, but exams were fair. For the BIO 107 lab, he was VERY helpful. His life achievements are peppered throughout the course (ex. his coral tank, the bacteria that he discovered,...) Very interesting and cute nonetheless!;)
The course was insane for a 3-week deal, but he knows what he's doing. Lecture was helpful and enjoyable, and a lot of lab review made all the studying much easier!
Review his notes after every class at least once - don't fall behind doing this and you will ACE this class!I thought his life achievments were interesting
His lectures were interesting and his exams weren't that bad if you put the work into it. He was really helpful when you talk to him outside of class.
very smart and kinda geeky, but a great prof with alot of knowledge to offer to his students. as long as you study hard, the exams are easy. stop whining and just study!
He is "Mr. Know It All" and you are the dirt on the bottom of his shoe...he never lets you forget this.
Made class interesting. Class was a peice of cake as long as you showed up and took notes. related well to the textbook. should do well in this class as long as you dont make the mistakes i did. STUDY for EVERY test.
Aided learning by reading out his material, having a powerpoint and also showing us what was coming up in detail. Very good teacher and knows his****, hard material tho.
Very helpful, doesn't make you feel stupid even if you have a stupid question. Knows his stuff... Overall a great prof
What a great guy; easy on the eyes too! ;) Ross is very helpful, very knowledgeable, and makes the class fun with his easy-going demeanor. He has no attitude, and knows we all start somewhere. MAKE SURE YOU STUDY HARD FOR HIS TESTS though!! Especially the fine details - know everything!!!!
He's hot. And he knows his stuff. Oh and he got to name some fish parasite that he discovered.
For the first three months, the course has almost no content (taught at about a grade 10 level) Then in the last three lectures he throws more material than there had been in the rest of the entire course. Also his knowledge base is a little shaky. When talking about genetic diseases, he used cerebral palsy as an example!
Very interesting class. Always willing to take the time after class to further discuss issues. Easy class but gets tough at end.
He treats you like garbage if you get on his bad side. I don't think he liked me cause I tried really hard to answer his questions during the lecture. Hard tests. Especially with the cladistic table or whatever the hell its called.
Unbelievably interesting course. Ross has a good sense of humour, is helpful, truly passionate about zoology (don't ask him about fish, though!) and he's adorable! Get in this class. But prepare to study!
notes aren't great
Be prepared to attend class and study! Overall a great teacher.
Very nice Guy.He is passionate about Biology, enjoys what he teaches.Very helpful when u have questions, willing to discuss further details.Great sense of humor, always has a story to share. His notes are only head lines, use the text book for more details.Always do the practice exams posted online,he always puts them in his midterms and finals.
I love his passion about the subject matter. DO NOT skip class, DO NOT try to wing an exam. Pay attention, do your work, and study for exams. Know everything, know it well. Do this, you'll do fine and learn A LOT. Very interesting class, very useful knowledge. He has a great personality, too. Relaxed, easygoing, helpful, good sense of humor.
Great professor. Uses powerpoint for notes and goes at a moderate pace so your not writing frantically. Uses loads of diagrams to explain everything which helps a lot. He explains each concept very well and to the point. Answers any questions asked. Must attend the class if you want a good mark, as there are lots of notes. Exams are easy.Great prof
Such a sweetheart, and such an (attractive!) nerd! He's easily one of the nicest profs I've had thus far, and I only wish I had picked up on him for my other bio classes. Do your homework, and STUDY FOR YOUR TESTS!!! His (lab) questions are based mostly on microscope work so draw good pictures in your notes. If you need to take a science class, take it from him!
good teacher with even better notes. he's clear, to the point and you just pay attention when he talks
This guy was a great teacher. If you go to classes and listen to what he says you will do fine in the class. He's the best teacher that I have had so far!!!
Best teacher I have honestly ever encountered. Always breaking the usual monotone nature of a lecture by throwing in random comments, that give a good laugh. Knows his stuff very well, open to any and all questions during or after lecture. MUST study for his exams though. Will try to get into any classes he is teaching next year and Ace them too!
Oh my. I am definitely going to try to get into any class he teaches. GREAT teacher, made me laugh out loud at least once a class, and made me even more interested in biology than I already was. And boy is he cute...^_^
Great professor! He has excellent notes and great examples to go with them. He is enthusiastic about biology. His notes are to the point but detailed and uses video and pictures to help learning, also he adds stories and explanations as well. Exams were fairly easy but you have to study, there is a lot to remember. I would definitly reccomend him!
His humour coupled with his love of biology and level of knowlege make this class very enjoyable. He is very clear on expecations and makes the class interesting with easily understood material presented in class. Hilarious little side comments made in class keep you laughing.
AMAZING teacher! One of the best by far. Knows his stuff inside and out, great notes, and very funny. Great class discussions and keeps it very interesting. This class always ends so fast and I'm sad that its over. I definetly recommend him!
Fun, easy, and super helpful, technologically advanced. Exams are not long, not too hard, if you study of course. Recommend him.
Okay I really don't like bio but Ross made it better! He is so hot it is hard to not want to go to class. He is in amazing shape. Okay back to bio...he makes class interesting and fun to go to.
The great thing about Ross is that he tests you on what he teaches you and wants you to do well. His tests are fair and he makes lecture interesting. I highly recommend him if you need to take Biology 108 at Macewan.
I took Ross for Bio 107 and 108 because I really liked his teaching style, which focuses more on his lecture notes and reading around the figures from the text book, then actually reading the whole chapter. Overall, Ross is a really great teacher, and he always keeps the class interested, so I highly recommend!
I can't believe this prof didn't get higher ratings. HE'S MY ALL TIME FAVORITE. I had him for both lecture and lab. I found his classes very entertaining, and his labs extremely useful. He tells you everything you needed to know if you stay until the end. Use his MANY textbook references and you will do great.
Best prof ever so interesting and funny u want to attend this profs class. Exams are easy if u attend class and get notes. best teacher for this year!!!!
VERY GREAT PROF CHOICE!!! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!! Very funny examples, very clear, very organized. To sum it up, we labelled him: Ross Shaw aka. Sexy Professor Ross Shaw PhD.
Very nice teacher. compares his topics with things you can relate with everyday which enables me to understand and remember things better. his notes are kind of everywhere but he tests what he teaches, which is great! highly recommend this prof!
Amazing Teacher! You will always want to attend class, he is helpful when you need it, he will NOT look down at you at all. He is very nice and drop dead gorgeous :) GREAT TEACHER
He's my only prof who speaks English as a first language. Gold star for you Ross.
Professor Shaw is like a grown-up Jimmy Neutron! He is nerdy/cute and has a squeaky voice, but he is EXTREMELY confident in what he teaches and relates it to everyday things [sometimes sexual ;)] Only bad thing is that he has no assignments or homework to help boost marks, and he never gets the class physically involved to make things more fun.
VERY GOOD TEACHER. This guy really has a knack for teaching. He never said anything that wasn't relevant to what you need to know for exams, but still kept the content interesting. He's a funny guy, is very approachable, and very good at explaining things. All round the best teacher that Ive had.
i used to hate bio until i had him. He's the best prof i've ever had, ofcourse u'll have to study it's bio. I LOVE HIM!!!(as a teacher ofcourse) lol
I have no background in Bio, and I was worried sick about taking Bio 101. I got an A-. Ross is so helpful, so clear in his lecture, and honestly makes it easy for you to succeed. If you put in time to do some studying, you will do well! And he's definitely charming and nice to look at. :)
Ross is incredible. I wish I could have him for more classes. Exams have some difficult questions, but nothing too horrible. Very good looking! And smart. Great mix.
Fun, straight forward with great use of a variety of media and teaching methods. Definately a favorite teacher.
He is incredible! He has true passion for biology and makes me class truely enjoyable. My intrest in biology has increased since I had him.
Funny teacher, but notes are a bit confusing. doesn't follow the textbook format and doesn't use the textbook at all except for the pictures.
Very interesting teacher. Doesn't use the textbook very much, so going to class is a must. He has a passion for his subject, and he makes it exciting. It's hard not to enjoy it. I had almost no biology background, and I have an A in this class
I'm going to miss Ross as my prof. He is suuuper cute and really funny. He uses analogies in his examples to help us understand better but his notes are very confusing. If you are very organized and can catch up with him, then that's a bonus. He knows people think he's hot and he uses that to reel ppl into him ;) ohhh rosss
funny prof, but his notes are confusing. he covers little material before the midterm and too much after it. final was harder then expected. attendance is mandatory, makes very little use of the textbook. other then that, he was a pretty good prof, would DEFINITELY RECOMMEND him.
Such a great teacher! He's funny in his analogies and knows how to get the point across. Although, we only had one midterm then the final. No assignments were given to increase your mark. Attending class is a MUST! He's super cute and I'm going to miss having him teach me =)
This is the best biology teacher at grant...take him and u will do so well. His tests are easy and directly from his notes. You dont have to go throght the textbook all all. Recommend him to anyone anyday.
Awesome prof. If you can get into his class, do it. Easy to understand, fun lectures, and always there for questions. Some questions on the midterms are tricky, but if you attend class and read your notes carefully you'll do great!! Miss him already!!
Great prof. very interesting lectures. Easy multiple choice but some harder long answers.
He is my favorite teacher so far! He makes every class entertaining and is a pretty funny guy. Loved going to this class
He is super nice very knowledgeable he uses power points for notes and he doesn't post them online so you have to attend his class. 2 midterms one assignment- assignment he decided to try doing a group project- choose a topic and teach it for review- so make friends. textbook sucks don't understand ask him overall good teacher - very cute:)
Ross is a really interesting prof. He made 107 as interesting as it could possibly be, so props to him for making the study of cells bearable. He likes visual reps to explain things, and he doesn't post his notes online. So go to class. That being said, test material is straight from his notes. Textbook is not necessary. Entertaining prof for sure
He makes this class fun and interesting. Adds humour and adds in realistic analoogies to understand the concepts. He is a breath of fresh air and commmuncates very well with all the students. Enjoy the class, considering I don't care for biology. So I have hope to come put with good marks.
Bio is a difficult course but he made it interesting with his funny personal stories and bio related videos. I hardly used the textbook other than for figure references, because he gives awesome notes and bases his tests on them only. Its a good idea to rewatch or pay attention to the videos he plays cuz theres questions on the midterm bout them.
Prof. Ross is passionate about what he teaches and wants to make sure his students are too. He makes us of lots of educational videos to aid in material comprehension and provides lots of real world examples. Attending his lectures are a must as that is what he tests on and he doesn't put his lectures online.
Great teacher, not a single complain!
Hes a great prof. One of the few profs I will actually miss at grant macewan. He doesn't put trick questions on his exam. AND doesn't make you read every single chapter in the textbook. If you study his notes, you will succeed.
Ross is an amazing teacher. He teaches for every style of learning. He only refers to the text with figures which is very helpful and are text questions. He does not post the powerpoints so you must go to class. He makes the class very interesting with several videos and really good descriptions of the topics.
OMG, professor Shaw was sooo amazing! His lectures were heaven! Probably because of his ultimately soothing voice. Also, I found myself paying 100% attention to him, also probably cause he's so hot. ;) Teaching style is amazing! I always looked forward to his classes! The things I'd do to that man ;) But, yeah. Highly recommend him as a professor!!
Dr.Shaw is an awesome prof!! I never enjoyed biology but he has made it interesting! His teaching styles are awesome and it is easy to pay attention and to understand the material. His tests are easy-ish but going to class will help ensure you achieve a good mark.I would take another class with him! Totally recommend Ross!
Great Prof! Explains everything super clear, answers all your questions clearly, and uses life experiences to explain concepts that helps you understand. Only tests on the notes he gives in class, but does not post notes online
Awesome prof. Must attend class, does not post notes online. Gives metaphors to remember info. Tests on notes & videos from class, he'll emphasize certain sections - those will be on test. Makes funny jokes & made biology fun & realistic. Tests fairly!
Super helpful and funny! He made the more difficult parts of biology interesting and related everything back to situations I could understand. Would definitely recommend this class.
Excellent Prof.....super helpful and easy going.
Great prof only bad side doesn't post his notes online
Very Easy to understand, what he teaches in class is what is on the test. Text book is used for diagrams and studying
Good guy and funny which helps with your attention. Doesn't post his notes which sucks but puts up a vague guide of what he goes over to sorta throw you a bone. Exams are hard but if you work hard you'll be fine.
I went to every lecture and took notes. All I did to prepare for the exam was review my notes and I ended up with an A+. He is super clear and super helpful with any questions. His class on Biology of Human Concern was really interesting and relevant. Highly recommend.
Actually one of the most amazing teachers i have ever had. Ross is awesome. You can tell he is very passionate about what he does, and although the course is tough he tries to make it easy. Make sure to attend class though as no notes are online. Also, the textbook is almost a waste as it is only used for pictures Overall he is totally recommended
Ross Shaw was a really good professor. Assignments are done online, but you have to go to class for the notes (he doesn't post them). I didn't use my textbook the entire year. He tests from his notes. Understand the details and you'll be fine. He's pretty entertaining in class as well. :) I'd take him as a prof for future classes.
Ross was such a good prof! Must attend class as he does not post notes online, and he does not recommend use of the textbook. Would take again for other courses!
Most interesting class i took this semester. He really tries to make the information interesting and make the class laugh. He doesn't use the textbook at all besides the figures (know the figures!). Overall i'd suggest him to everyone, best of luck!!
He is an ok prof. His notes are not the best, tends to short form everything so when you go to read them it doesn't make sense.
Ross was great, would totally take another course with him. The exams are all based on the notes he presents in class which makes it pretty easy to study for exams. He tends to short hand alot of his notes so it can be a little tricky to decipher what you wrote down if you dont remember the abbreviations, but again, great prof.
Ross is... Well... He's smart. Really smart. And I think that translates to him not really getting that other people aren't as smart as he is. He's quite useless when you ask questions, but tries to hold up that he was clear in the first place. I like Ross, but I hated this class.
He is Amaaaaaaaazing
He's a great teacher, and he's super funny. I only used my textbook when I couldn't understand the notes I took because he short hands them a lot, so it can be a bit confusing. I'd definitely take another class with him. Tests weren't the usual as well, just study your notes.
He's a pretty good professor. He makes the lectures interesting, and he'll help if you don't understand anything. You work with other students often.
Hes a good prof in the way he teaches as the textbook is not required. His notes are condensed which makes it very easy to study. The only problem I had was that he doesn't like to reply to his emails.. which is kind of irritating for a student who may need help. Otherwise he's pretty good.
He is honestly amazing and He's making me love bio since the first day! He explains well and makes sure you understand everything thoroughly !
Ross is great, super funny and makes the class fun! Definitely recommend, he understands his students and is a genuine guy. You can tell he loves what he does, and wants you to do well. Awesome!!!!!
He a great teacher. But he ONLY gives you 25 minutes for your midterm, around 16-18 MC and 2 long answers. Thats the only grade you get marked on the whole semester (minus the final). So you don't get a chance to boost up your mark if you do poorly on your midterm.
This guy is a legend. He is a professional in terms of his delivery. He is evidently passionate about biology. He is clear. His lectures are quite concise, so it is helpful to reference the textbook. Overall, I would echo the previous positive sentiments of other raters.
he is amazing and knows his material. he also does in class review which is really helpful. would take again if possible.
Ross's lectures are interesting and fun to attend. He tells jokes and stories, and shows videos to make the lecture more interesting. His notes don't always make sense when you come back to them later, since he uses a lot of shortcuts and key words, so try writing the notes in your own words. Definitely would take again if possible.
Shaw is one of my favourite profs. His lectures are great and entertaining. They are quite concise, so it can be helpful to reference the textbook. However he answers your questions thoroughly and makes sure you understand the material. He uses many teaching methods to cater to different ways of learning. Shaw's passion for biology is contagious.
The way he structures chapters are exactly the same in the text to it is easy to follow along and make extra notes. Only tests from in-class, but I found that reading the text gives you a better understanding than the simple explanation he gives. His midterms are small because you write a second one with a group.
Cannot say much other than Ross is the best prof I've had, he executes lectures perfectly, incorporating comedy and videos into his lectures making it all much more engaging. Tests are based off understanding of the concepts, not just spitting back out what you learned in class, so in-depth study of what he teaches is suggested.
Ross is one of the best at MacEwan, not only in the sciences. He won a distinguished teacher award at the school and for good reason. If you see his name come up when trying to pick a section for a bio class, make sure you lock down your spot. He makes lectures engaging and entertaining, and in cellular biology, that can definitely be tough.
Ross is great! He's super funny and I never have a dull moment in lecture. He's always willing to help and answer questions. Go to class, as a lot of the notes aren't posted. I would definitely take him again!
I found his lectures super boring but it could have also been the material since nutrition is such a dry topic. It felt like bio 20 but with univeristy level difficulty. I failed the assignment because there was no outline for what he wanted on it. And tests were really really hard. I barely passed any of them even though I studied so much.
Ross is an amazing teacher. He is so passionate about what he does and what he teachers which makes him anything but boring. His style of teaching isn't very conventional, he teaches with a lot of videos, guest speakers, etc. Great guy and greater teacher, would recommend for sure.
Ross is an amazing prof. He's very passionate about what he does, and it shows in his teaching. His lectures are clear enough that I finished the class with an A- without buying the textbook. Just make sure you either go to class or make a friend to get notes from if you miss and this class is an easy A! He's also very funny and personable.
I do not have much of a science background and I am doing decently well in his class. Only science course I've ever enjoyed. Sometimes he might mention a few terms I am not familiar with but he explains things very well if you just ask! I definitely recommend him to everyone! Con: The lack of punctuation in his power points drives me nuts.
He is a great guy who really knows what hes talking about. Be sure to show up for lectures and take notes
Knew he was a great teacher, but took him for granted until we had a different prof for one class.
Lovely prof!! Take him if you can because hes simply wonderful. Very caring and very helpful, lectures are fun and interesting and overall a good experience!!!
He is an amazing prof. Very knowledgeable about his field. He cares about his students and wants them to do amazing and that is why he provides all these small extra things that help you for your midterms and final but are easy to complete. Therefore you get easy 100% on those assignments that add up and have a great impact on the overall grade.
Ross is a great prof! Always willing to help students succeed in his class! Would definitely take again!
A caring and very informative instructor. Bio has lots of information to digest but Ross condenses it to the things that you should be learning (such as whats on midterms and exams). Very witty and funny he has many funny stories related to the lectures to help you remember. Did not need the textbook as he provided enough info on his slides.
Great guy, if you can get into the his section, just do it. Interesting lectures and exams are not hard at all
What an awesome prof! If you can get in with him do it. He explains things so well, makes class fun. He relates so much to real life things so you understand.
Ross mixes up his teaching style by having Skype calls with different profs to talk about marine issues. Lecture notes sometimes aren't always clear so paying attention in class is a must. No textbook needed. Likes to bring in contemporary issues and makes the class interesting. Encourages group work and overall material is easy if you study.
Pretty funny, goes through content very slowly, fairly easy to pass but you need to go to class since his notes on BB are blacked out. Nice guy, tests are a little harder than what he makes it seem like.
Ross gives really great lectures. He cares a lot about the material and communicates it in a really interesting way. He is younger and very easy to get a long with. I do think he needs to produce some clearer learning objectives for the course, but he is eager to answer any questions you may have. He is a solid choice, you will not be disappointed.
Ross is a really great Bio prof. He is very accessible outside of class and is accommodating. Easy science credit, classes are interesting and Ross brings the topics to life.
Ross is an amazing prof, definetly knows his stuff and for a high content course he doesnt expect you to know every detail. He is fair and kind. Very enjoyable class.
Ross is hilarious, I laughed every single class. If you have taken BIO 30, the class is a breeze. It helps that it is also very interesting, and Ross' style of teaching. Although lectures can seem long he is easy to listen to and loves to crack jokes. Highly recommend him for any class!
spectacular!!!!!!!!!!! no words to describe him he the life saver !!! but his tests and exams and midterms are not joking if a student who have shown up to every class and studied his notes !! can able to do it otherwise you need superpowers!
Very hard to follow in class, rambles on from one thing to the next and back. He says its very important to write what he writes on board but when it comes to study, its no help or very vague. He forgets to mention a lot of things in txtbook. Does not reference the textbook. Examples given for practice arent whats on exam, study from txtbook.
Best professor I've had so far. period
care about how you works based on research datas and be willing to help all the time. Great professor and lectures.
Dr. Shaw gives out very easy to understand lectures, even without any Bio background. He makes concepts easy to understand, plus he's hilarious and makes his students laugh. Your grade is based on two midterms and the final but the content is very fair as long as you go to class and study. He is very accommodating and helpful to those who need it.
Such an AWESOME Bio prof! He is a very nice and funny person as well. His lectures are interesting and they give clear content about what will be on the midterm and final (attendance is recommended as exams are solely lecture-based). He also posts useful practice material to prepare you for exams on Blackboard. Overall, I 100% recommend!
Ross will always be one of my favourite profs. He's super fair and always makes sure you're prepared for midterms and final. He tells the odd Dad joke which is always nice.. If you skip this class, its not the hardest to keep up, but make sure you have a friend to give you the notes since his online notes aren't defined/elaborated on.
Ross was an amazing prof for bio107. It's a tough course, but the way he explains things really sets you up for success to pass. Get ready to study your butt off because cell biology has a lot of memorization involved. If you skip class make sure you have a friend in the class because his online notes aren't defined or elaborated on. Don't skip tho
Ross is amazing. Best biology prof ive had. He makes lectures entertaining and if you go to class, you wont need a textbook. His midterm question are sometimes the same as his unit reviews! If need bio, take his classes!!!
Ross is an amazing prof! His notes are exactly what his exams express. He doesn't care if you show up or not, but I highly suggest attending the class as what he tests you on are the notes that are NOT on the online powerpoint. He does very well at explaining a very heavy content course. Would 100% take him again.
I enjoyed Ross' classes. His lectures were sometimes dry and scattered but his exams make up for it. If you study the notes he reviews, as well as the practice questions at the end of each topic, you'll do just fine!
He has the best powerpoints, that are simple and visually appealing. He never makes you feel dumb and is honestly a really genuine person whose always there to help and wants the best for his students. Nice guy and great prof. His lectures are entertaining and he gives breaks, he prepares you for exams and midterms with practice ones
gave only 5 assignments that were pretty easy. He was an easy marker as well. No lectures, you just read the textbook and do the practice quizzes. midterms and final exam were really easy as well.
Ross Shaw was a great professor. His lecture notes were amazing and super clear & to the point. His assignments were simply and easy was to bump your overall grade. He is very reasonable if you need extensions as well. His tests were a bit tough, but if you study and pay attention they are certainly manageable.
He was a very hands off prof. We had five assignments and several quizzes, but the quizzes were open book and you had multiple attempts. He didn't leave any feedback. Not a bad choice if you don't mind working independently.
Ross is quite nice and funny so his lectures are usually pretty entertaining. He LOVES groupwork though so be prepared if you take Marine bio... multiple projects, test prep and in-class discussions in groups. He got us a guest speaker as well, which was cool. Unfortunately the class was cut short by covid and we didn't get to finish everything
The works given was clear and straight-forward. Dr Ross Shaw is also quick to reply to any emails sent to him. It's fairly easy to score marks as long as you complete all the given quizzes and assignments. Overall 10/10. Definitely recommend!
There is not much to say on Ross only because he was a very hands-off prof. It was mostly independent note taking from the textbook. However, the 5 assignments in the course were easy to understand, and he was a fair and easy marker. Overall a decent prof, but like I said, if you want a more involved prof I would pick someone else.
Ross Shaw is a pretty chill teacher. He isn't overly involved though. Most of the content was textbook reading and note taking from the online lecture. His assignments are easy to understand and if you put in the work on them you'll get a good mark.
It was a really fun class. You can attend his weekly live session for a clear understanding of the topic. After each quarter quiz, you can ask him for a review so he can go over it with you and help you understand.
Ross Shaw is a great prof! He is pretty hands off, so if you work well independently I would definitely recommend him. His lecture notes are excellent and his assignments are pretty easy and straight forward. Make sure you read the assignment instructions carefully and do the required readings and quizzes for practice and you will do great!
Not a bad professor in general, just didn't feel 100%
Dr. Shaw is a thoughtful and engaging professor and has a very conversational style of lecture at times. His expectations are clear, and he is approachable and responsive. He is always willing to discuss exam results. His expectations are clear, and overall, just a great vibe to be around! He made this class really fun!
Hands down my favourite prof so far at MacEwan. This guy is a gem! Great lectures, material. He is super funny and cares for his students and their success. The class game LOTE is amazing. I would take this professor 10 out of 10 times. Also, the class is quite straightforward if you study key concepts. The class is laid out well to succeed. TAKE!!
One of the best profs I've had. His expectations are clear and does his best to make time if you need to review the material. He's super fun too. It's an asynchronous class but just make sure to watch the recordings as that's where he explains the difficult concepts in detail.
Definitely one of my favourite professors so far. He always answers questions clearly and never makes you feel dumb. He always cracked jokes so his classes were never boring and he also provides a lot of materials for study and if you do them, you'll be fine.
Ross is a professor who truly cares about his students. His BIOL107 course was extremely well organized and easy to navigate. He cracks jokes from time to time, adding a bit of fun and charm. He is available to help those who need it and gives extra live lectures to answer questions and give extra help. Even though I hate bio, overall S tier prof.
ross was great! if you do the readings and youll do great. he actually did live online lectures when many other profs dont. one of the best profs at macewan by far!!
AMAZING PROF. His tests were based solely on class material, so there was nothing unexpected. His lectures were my absolute favorite to attend, they're so interesting and informative; his classes were never boring. He has a great sense of humor, & cares deeply for your success. The final exam was super easy as well. I have no complaints about him!
Ross Shaw is very good, he tests on the stuff you learn in class and gives review quizzes and participation activities to help understand course material more. He is good with helping and answering questions and is fair with the breakdown of course weighings, also gives a lot of material you can read through to help with the information.
Ross is great! There are no surprises on the quizzes or exams. Some of the content can be tough but he provides tons of learning resources, so if you put in the time and effort you'll be able to get a decent mark.
He is very great, well spoken, explains everything thoroughly, and examinations are on the material we learn in class. He is a really great and kind teacher!!
I loved Ross!! Amazing prof who wants to see his students succeed. Although the class was online and it is content heavy, he is hilarious and makes it incredibly fun! Attendance was not mandatory as he posts his recordings online which was super helpful! I learned alot from his class and definitely enjoyed it.
Dr. Shaw is an excellent professor. Would recommend.
ross was awesome! he made lectures super interesting with easy assignments. i would definitely take this class over again just because i enjoyed it so much.
Great Prof, and when I had to reach out to learn about something outside of what he was directly teaching, he took the time to point me in the right direction. If you get a chance to join one of his classes i recommend you do
Ross was great. The class is really easy even if you don't really pay attention to it which is really helpful for anyone in STEM. It is an easy GPA booster. Participation quizzes every week but you get full marks just for attempting. 2 easy midterms and a final. He is also very easy to get a hold of and takes time to help his students.
He is amazing! Took online with him, lot of areas to increase marks. Exams and quizzes are open book, fairly good. I never used book for this class only notes and did really good! You can either join in online lecture or watch on your on time.
Great prof & online course. Definitely an easy A compared to taking it in person, but you do have to watch the lectures and take notes from them for that to be true. Exams will ask questions specific to what was said in the lecture (so, you can't google the answers). His wording could be confusing at times, but his virtual office hours help tons.
Ross is a great professor who makes the material engaging. His lectures are straightforward, and the exams focus on what's taught in class. Unstuck study was a helpful study tool alongside the provided resources.
I did the online Bio 101 with Ross. I was enjoying the class until we had to do oral check in's which you meet with him on zoom and he asks you 2 long and challenging questions. The questions themselves were not the issue the pure stress of being watched by a professor was. He showed up to the 10 minute late so I was rushed.
I enjoyed prof shaw, the only qualm I have is that although bio 30 is not a prereq, it might as well be with the way that so many of the topics relate directly back to bio 30, he also assumes that the students are as advanced in bio as he is, which can be difficult! overall, nice guy who is willing to help you out but exams were a little tricky!
absolute godsend of a prof i'd recommend to literally anyone. he gives lots of opportunities for marks and is replies to his emails really quick. notes are so clear and everything. 10/10.
Honestly the best prof I had this semester. His lectures were engaging and he's genuinely a nice caring guy that wants us to do well. Literal godsend he is the best! If you can, PLEASE TAKE HIM!!
I had Ross Shaw for my online asynchronous BIOL 107 class, and he's chill! Since it's asynchronous, I didn't interact with him one-on-one or in class at all, but he gives video reviews for the notes and assignments and gives lots of extra resources if you have trouble with the content. He also has drop-in meetings if you need to talk to him :)
I took Professor Shaw's online bio course and it was extremely well taught. I wasn't looking to get into an online course but it was the last available option. I found I had no issue with the online format of his course as his teachings were clear and easy to grasp even through a screen.
Dr. Shaw is a wicked marine bio prof, it is his field of knowledge and brings great examples and expertise to the lectures, his exams are not bad, and gives you a whole class to do a practice midterm. one of the best bio profs ive had
He is very unreasonable the midterms are ONLY 30 minutes long with 28 multiple choice and 2 written responses and he wants paragraphs for the 2 written response questions. He gives lots of resources but his tests are still unfair
(Online) The are weekly participation activities, weekly review quizzes, 3 quarter quizzes, and a final. Time limit is very limited which is frustrating because he includes 2 SA portion for the tests. He has an oral quiz which is worth 10%. He uploads video lectures and gives a lot of learning resources to the point that it is overwhelming.
I have to give credit where it's due, this is probably one of the better asynchronous courses you can take. He sets it up in a way that forces you to keep up with the course materials (this is a good thing). However, the tests are really unfair. Only 30 minutes to answer 28 multiple choice and 2 long answer questions. This class ruined my GPA.
