He's AWESOME! What a nice guy! He helps you so much (think review sessions, lecture notes, AND study guides!) If you can take Thompson, DO IT!
Cool guy and very helpful in helping you prepare for the exams.
Thompson, stop voting for yourself!
he has a decent sense of humor and he makes everything SUPER clear in lecture. No homework is a plus, MC tests are easy if you study everything on the study guides he gives. Lecture is never boring and TA is nice and helpful. I just love this class! and i recommend you to take it with him.
really really cool and has a sense of humor. makes the class more interesting, and makes sure that everyone can understand the material. awesome professor!
I enjoyed going to this class even though he puts lectute notes online. He's very helpful and passionate about what he teaches. You don't have to read the text because the majority of the tests are on his lectures. Everything you need to know is on the study guides.
a great teacher!! great sense of humor, my favorite prof so far here.
AWESOME TEACHER!! That's all I can say, I mean there are no words to tell how awesome his class was. Keep up on the readings and pay attention in lectures (it's hard not to). Definetely one of the greatest professors I've had...highly recommended.
he's a really good teacher. his class was fun and interesting, but i couldnt help falling asleep, i guess it's because it was after lunch. but still, good teacher and good class. (i slept almost every class and still got a b)
he's a great prof...easy to understand and easy to love...he makes psychology very applicable and his tests are very fair if you spend time studying his study guides... you'll love his class...he will probably be your favorite teacher here at davis....he shows that he cares about you
best prof i have had at davis, as long as you take time for study guides and lecture, you will pass. he is very clear and always makes lecture fun and interesting.
The best professor ever! He actually cares about his students! The reading was a lot of work, but the study guides really help focus on important information. I'd take any class he teaches.
God's gift to Davis. He really is a dynamic and wonderful professor...he really impressed me. Honestly, if you want to be a parent oneday you need to take his course. I have learned so much about how to deal with children, I feel very grateful. T.A.'s are also great. Test are very fair and he offers very focused study guides. Take his class!
He is seriously the best psc prof I've had. He genuinely cares about hte students, he's humorous, interesting, wonderful teacher. Tests are fair -- all mult. choice. Two papers during the quarter, but they're interesting to do. He looks like Richard Gere.
GREAT, great teacher..I just love the way he puts things. Class never gets boring..seriously cares about students and their achievements. HIGH RECOMMENDED!!!
He is so amazingly intelligent and interesting. If you are going to take this course, do yourself a favor and take it with Dr. Thompson.
He's presents himself in a very friendly way, open to any questions any time, and is clearly a very understanding person. I find the lectures get a little boring, but they are definetly clear and understandable if you can stand sitting for 2 hours. Definetly recommended for a Psych teacher, better than a lot of others.
The guy's almost too nice. It's weird. I wonder what he takes before classes sometimes to make him so dang chipper. Whatever. A great prof, very receptive to students.
awesome proff... he's pretty hot too!
GREAT TEACHER! He explains the topics very well, and his exams are very easy if you studied the material well. He provicdes notes so that you can write down what he says rather than what he writes, and he has study guides that pretty much give away what's on the exam.
very good professor. especially clear and articulate. just study a little bit before the test and you should do well
Great course, he is an AMAZING professor. Take this class:)
He's a warm person, and he has the most soothing voice ever...which put me to sleep on more than one occasion. The review sessions are great though, the TAs were awesome!
Clearly he has a great deal of knowledge about the subject and he communicates it very clearly. Lots of enthusiasm for the subject and tries very hard to help students succeed. He is a very kind person as well and is very interested in what his students have to say. Study sessions are very helpful. If you study, you'll do well.
Awesome class, really interesting! Only 2 exams, 1 midterm and 1 final. Lecture notes printed on my.ucdavis I highly recommend this course!
Class with Dr. Thompson will make you happy =D
Probably the best professor I have so far in two years at UCD. Tests were easy but I learned a lot and it was an enjoyable lecture even though it was 2 hours long
awesome! what a hottie...
He's always smiling and it just makes you smile too! He's always open for questions and makes it so interesting
reminds me of richard gere..haha..great lecturer!
OnE of the BEST teachers I have ever had. SUch a motivational speaker and in a way like a father. HIs words are very powerful in motivating students to succeed overall with his class and with everything. Always looked forward to his lectures, thus i never missed a class, and trust me I sleep through all my other classes
I am extremely disappointed in the class and the professor. I found the lectures to be boring, the reading to be repetitive, and the tests to be unnecessarily hard. I thought it was going to be a great class based on the other ratings, but it was one of my worst classes at davis. I do not recommend at all!
Dr.Thompson is amazing. His lectures are sometimes boring, but it's doable. He's the nicest professor you will EVER meet. his tests are kind of hard though, it's not just a recall of information, it's how you put the info you learned to use. He reminds me of Richard Gere! sometimes he sounds like he's preaching to you in lectures. i loved his class.
This prof is very cool, really enthusiastic and loves the topic. Lectures are podcasted, so you don't need to go to class if it's easier for you. I found myself more able to take notes that way. Essay was graded easily, tests are pretty simple, in my opinion. Definitely take him.
Great guy. He gives really good lectures, encourages group discrussion, and does everything possible to facilitate your learning. Puts up podcasts, lecture notes, and is very clear about how tests will be. Tests are hard, but fair. One of the best teachers I've had thus far.
AMAZING! His class was wonderful! Really ties in everything concerning human development and psychology. Never missed a class(WHY WOULD YOU WANT TO?). Lecture slides, podcast, and book. the book complements his lecture slides really well. I even downloaded his podcasts just to hear his motivational talks. A MUST TAKE!
He's tries to be very clear and helpful and puts up lots of review questions. has podcasts and powerpt lecture slides to print
He is an amazing lecturer, one of the best professors I've had at Davis. The way he explains the material makes it more interesting. He actually cares about how well you do and is passionate about psychology. He posts the lecture PDFs online, as well as the podcasts. Study guides for the exams are helpful, and the exams are textbook/lecture based.
He's awesome!! i went to class a max of 5x and got an A. just print out the notes, listen to the podcasts (thompson has an outgoing voice so it helps,) go over provided study questions & ur set. non-cumulative final. 45 MC questions on each exam. very interesting topics also
Professor Thompson is quite DILF-y. He was a really sweet &knowledgeable professor. Loved his lectures. I got C's on his midterms without reading the text; should have studied better. Didn't go to class the last three weeks and listened to the podcasts &read the text &got an 89% on the final. I got stuck with a C+ cause of midterm scores were bad.
Thompson was a great professor. He made the class very easy. I skipped a few times and I still got an A-. The study guides were extremely helpful. But the lectures can be boring if you aren't that interested in psych. Overall, this class was an easy class for GE credit and he really wants you to succeed in his class.
Best professor ever! Extremely helpful and funny, provides full study packets for every exam and posts all of his lectures as pod casts so you don't fall behind if you're sick. If at all possible take his class!
Prof Thompson makes this class really interesting and exciting. You dont have to attend class bc there are podcasts, but he is very engaging so its better to attend. The tests are difficult, but manageable if you know the lecture details like the back of your hand. You learn alot and everything is applicable to daily life
Very engaging teacher who gives amazing lectures. Class slides and podcasts are provided. A 5 page term paper was given and was the easiest term paper I've ever written. The exams are very difficult. He writes hard multiple choice questions designed to throw you off, so study hard and be prepared to be disappointed, but I would still recommend!
To disagree with a lot of people here, I felt that his lectures were so boring. He goes on and on about nothing really. The book has so much better information we never covered in class. His tests are designed to trick you, so beware. They are multiple choice though, and when you read them carefully, the right answer really sticks out. Paper's easy
I really enjoyed this class. His exams are difficult, but I survived. Its nice to have a Professor who is so passionate about what he is teaching. Like any other PSC or HDE class lectures can be boring, but he tries to entertain...telling stories about his family. Overall, intelligent nice guy....take his class!!!
Post powerpoints online. Have two tests and 1 paper. None of them are very hard. Has podcasts, so not necessary to go to class. Good teacher. Explains very well.
SO ENTHUSIASTIC!!! TAKE HIM!! He engages his students and show funny, cute videos. Seems easy right? WRONG the test is actually very difficult. STUDY HARD!! Don't be fooled by how easy the course seems. I survived with a C. But I loved the class so its worth it. Best professor!
The best teacher I've had in my life. Seriously, you will love this class.
Professor Thompson is an awesome teacher. His lectures are clear and if you miss a class he has pdf files for his lectures and he podcast. His tests are relatively straight forward, they only have what he puts on his study guide. Definitely recommend!!
This class really irritated me. But no need to go to lecture because literally everything you need is online. The way he talks makes me feel like a 3rd-grader, which is probably why he's so popular with freshman...
Awesome teacher! Made psych really fun!! :) I went to every lecture bcuz I liked it, but u can use his podcasts & never go to class. His tests are very fair, if u study a little its easy. I never read the book, just went over the study guides & used book to find answers to those questions. Those were only questions from the text on the tests.
Dr. Thompson is incredibly nice and really interesting. His lectures are engaging and very helpful for the exams. Rather than having an actual final, he just has 3 midterms, all of equal weight. Though the exams are difficult, if you read the book and go to all the lectures, you should be able to do fine.
good teacher. didnt really use the textbook except to fill out the study guide. puts all of his powerpoint lectures online and has podcasts. tests are reasonable. i studied a lot but still ended up with a B.
Great professor!! His class was definitely a fun class. He has podcasts, lecture slides, and even gives study guides for each exam. The exams are fairly straightforward (45 questions multiple choice) and should be simple if you study based off of the study guide. Textbook isn't really needed, but it helps when making the study guide.
Excellent professor who loves to teach. Very relaxed and amiable nature, approachable and helpful. The book is slow and boring, but has a lot of extra info that won't be on the tests. Just go to lecture, pay attention, and skim the reading and you'll do fine.
Dr. Thompson is one of my most favorite professors here at UCD. He's very friendly and a wonderful lecturer. I wish he taught more courses!
Dr. Thompson is amazing. His lectures are interesting as well as clear. Highly recommended.
First off, even though he is an older man, he's really hot. He makes lectures really interesting, and he is so into the subject. Lectures are long and can get overwhelming. Midterms and final are hard, so make sure you truly know the material. DO THE STUDY GUIDE!! MAJOR HELP!!
He is a very nice, fun, and clear teacher. There was only 2 midterms and a final (all noncumulative, all of equal weight and points). As long as you read and intently look over the powerpoints he posts online, you could get at least an A- on any of the tests. But going to class has its perks. He puts in effort to make it fun.
Extremely helpful professor that wants us to do our best! He makes class very interesting and understandable. Do the study guides and print out the powerpoint slides he provides for you. Also, I highly recommend attending his last lecture before the final. It's very meaningful. Loved this class!
pretty straight forward teacher. as long you read the book and do some studying, there's no way you can't ace the midterm and final
Professor was extremely nice and entertaining.. one of the best professors I've had.. Intelligent and cares about his students..His passion for teaching and for the materials does not go un-noticed at all!!! His exams are a bit hard, but study and you should do fine..
Thompson is great! There were 2 non-cumulative exams and 1 five-page paper that you can revise and resubmit. I read each end-of-chapter review in the textbook and was fine. Thompson's an enthusiastic teacher who cares a LOT about the subject and wants you to do well. Lots of personal anecdotes, but they're relevant and funny. Great class!
one of the best teachers at Davis hands down
Professor Thompson is the reason I am switching my major to Psychology. His class was my favorite part of the week - it was simple and fun and I really learned interesting things. Plus, he smiled all the time which just makes you feel good. He was an excellent teacher and I wish the class were smaller so I would've been able to talk to him more.
Definitely my favorite prof. at Davis so far. His class was so entertaining I am now double majoring in psych. He uses eg everyone can understand, curves towards the benefit of the class, & will always fully answer questions. The test were difficult sometimes, only b/c psych simple has a lot of material. If you can take psych 1 w/ him, do it.
My favorite professor so far. I now want to double major in psychology because of him. It is general psychology and there is a lot of material so tests can be difficult but he curves the tests to help everyone. He answers all questions thoroughly and provides study guides for each chapter before the midterms and final. Amazing teacher.
Great Professor. The lectures are really interesting and clear. He sure knows how to keep an audience awake. Exams are not easy if you neglect all the resources he provides. Otherwise, they're a breeze. Read the book. Do the study guides. Attend the review sessions. Class will be great, I guarantee it.
He is super nice!! My favorite professor!! I really enjoy his course!
He knows how to teach which makes the material easy to learn. Best teacher ever. The only reading you have to do is enough to answer the study guide questions. The study guide is given out 4-8 days before the tests. Tests are untimed; only 45 M.C. questions. Tests make up your whole grade. Final in not cumulative. He posts ppts and podcasts online.
FAVORITE TEACHER EVER ^___^. HE'S SO NICE AND HE MAKES PSYCHOLOGY REALLY INTERESTING. I LOVED GOING TO CLASS BECAUSE HE'S SUCH A DEDICATED TEACHER :D WHOOOOOO PSYCH!
He is the best professor I've had so far. His lectures are interesting due to his enthusiasm for the subject and efforts to incorporate videos, comic strips, and humor into lectures. He explains everything very clearly and in a way that makes you want to pay attention. No essays! Tests are fair, mc, and not particularly hard. Also a Really nice guy
I found this class too easy; he really only taught the basics of psychology, which I already had a general knowledge about. It felt like a high school psychology class. It was an easy A, but I didn't learn much. He also dedicated time for us to discuss ideas with our neighbors, which is obnoxious; what are we, 2nd graders? Also, don't buy the book.
If you read this, I want to tell you one thing. Study for the first test. Study hard. Everyone was hit hard, and the average was something around 33/45 points. The lectures seem easy, but the midterms will hurt if you're not prepared. The best way to study is to just take notes on key terms in the book, and look at the mini quizzes.
From experience all I can say is study the study guides and you will at least get a B on the midterms. I definitely did not take the first midterm too serious, and got a solid B and eventually had to dig myself out of a hole to barely get an A- in the class. His podcasts are EXTREMELY useful when studying the study guides. He's a really great guy!
if u read the text n go to his lectures then the tests should be a breeze. Make sure u go to lectures tho b/c the powerpoints need explanations
Thompson was such a great teacher. Extremely clear with his lectures. I didn't attend some of them but he posted up all of his power points and podcasts. Do the study guides! They were beyond useful! Only used the textbook for them. Also if you're great at memorizing it'll be a breeze. I got an A on both midterms and final.
I loved this class and this teacher! He's great at explaining things and the class was very interesting. Even though he podcasts his lectures, you should still go to class! He's a great lecturer and he's incredibly kind as well.
Thompson was a great lecturer! He's funny, enthusiastic, and knowledgeable. I went to class, took notes on the reading, and used his study guides before exams (but I knew the material well by then). Spread the work out by doing the reading before class, then you won't have to worry about studying for the exams. I got an A and never felt stretched.
This class is also called HDE 102 (social and personality development). Thompson is so sweet, helpful, and CLEAR with the material. He uses real-life examples for clarity on the material. I rarely read the book, BUT I attended every lecture, and completed the generous study guides before the midterm and final. Take this class or any class with him!
I recommend this professor. His class can be boring at times but the 2 midterms and final are pretty easy. As long as you use the study guides he gives before each test you will be fine.
LOVE DR THOMPSON!! This has been my favorite psych class and he is my favorite professor at Davis. People don't attend his class because he podcasts but I wish they did because he is the sweetest man ever! 1 midterm and 1 final with a paper. Paper isn't bad but the tests are tricky. Make sure to complete the study guide and understand the material
Thompson is an absolute sweetheart! I can't say that enough! He's extremely passionate about his work and this subject. Midterm was difficult; class average was a C. Grading for paper was rough too but I studied the study guide for the final and got an A. Wish I had done the same for the midterm. Use the study guide; it's a must! Great teacher!
He is seriously such a sweetheart and great at explaining things. He is also so passionate about his subject that It's amazing to learn from him. Podcasts and Study Guides in this class!
Had him for PSC1 as well as 142, and as a senior, it's safe to say he is STILL my favorite professor here at Davis. I wish he taught more classes so I could have him again. Super sweet, funny, and helpful. I went to almost every lecture, even though he podcasts. Not an easy A, but definitely worth it.
Easily the BEST professor I've had in Davis, in any respect. Took this class to be a break from engineering coursework, but ended up taking away a lot from this course! Tests are fairly reasonable, Would definitely take again!
Thompson was one of the most passionate instructors i've ever had. He's so nice and his test's aren't meant to trick you, if you know your stuff, you'll do great
Go to lecture. Do the reading. Complete the study guide and memorize it. Tests are based them and some questions are directly from it and the text main concepts. He offered our class two opportunities for extra credit and they were short one page write ups. Funny examples and interacts with people in class.
Dr. Thompson is an amazing instructor! Class moves at a reasonable pace and the final is not cumulative. There is a lot of reading, but it is completely doable and so worth it! Natalie the TA is so helpful, and Professor Thompson is helpful both in class and office hours. Can't wait to take more of his courses!
AMAZING professor. He's super, super nice. He really cares about his students and does not mind if you email him about personal questions. I really enjoyed his class even though I admit I didn't always go. But during podcast I always listened and laughed at his jokes. Easy class, extra credit too.
Very helpful! Interesting lectures, although a bit long. No HW, few EC. Genuinely wants to help his students. 2 midterms: moderately difficult, fairly easy if you study ahead of time. Gives study guides for each topic. Questions are straightforward, all multiple choice, not cumulative. Textbook is a must (ebook option). AP Psych review book helps
Very eloquent and caring professor. Very clear about what you need to know to do well. Posts study guides for all his midterms. As long as you study the study guides at least 2 days before the test, an A+ is not hard to achieve at all. I never read the textbook and only used it to fill out the study guide.
Love this class. Thompson's lectures are inspired and enjoyable, and his passion for the subject is infectious. However, be warned that it is NOT an easy A, so don't take it for that reason. Study guides total 12 pages long of questions to fill out (per exam), and are necessary to do well. Exams were surprisingly difficult (class average was a C)
The workload is manageable, which is great! One midterm, one paper, and a final. That doesn't mean it's an easy class, however. Papers are graded fairly tough and the average for the tests were C. Take this class if you want a great teacher, but not if you want an easy A.
Awesome professor! Really passionate about psycology and the students. He is very willing to clear up concepts during office hours and class. 2 midterms and one "final" but they're all worth the same amount of your grade. Tests not cumulative and also provides study guides. I ended with a B (because of exam 1) but would not mind taking again.
Best prof yet. Very interesting class anr I actually learned a few things!
So at first I really liked this class. His lecture style is pretty good, but the grading was messed up. Because there is only a midterm and a final, studying for them was brutally overwhelming because of all the info (20+ page study guides to fill out with each test). The lectures were good but the tests were stressful. Papers were graded harshly.
At first I liked that there was only a midterm, final, and a paper. However, only two exams means there is so much info crammed into them. Studying was extremely overwhelming (literally 20 page study guides). I found his test questions to be a bit tricky, and the grade for the paper clearly depended on what mood the TA's were in. Surprisingly hard
Great lecture!! Great professor!! Do not always think about grade . If you try hard you will get reward. Need to take class like this.
amazing! crystal clear, helpful, loves his students!
Great professor. Midterms and final are not cumulative. For the first midterm 1/4 got an A and for the second more than half. He chose not to curve even so many students got A. Gives clear study guides for exams. As long as you read the material and his lecture slides you'll find the exams very easy. Patient to all your questions.
I think he's a good professor, but I wouldn't recommend taking him for 142. Studying for the exams was brutal because there were only two, so they each covered a lot of material. Also, the TA's grade everything and so it's hard to really have control over how well you do-- it'd probably be better if he were able to do the grading himself.
Professor Thompson is a great lecturer. GO TO LECTURE. That's where most of his test questions will come from. There's 2 midterms and a "final" but it's another midterm. All multiple choice. He gives clear study guides far in advance for the exams, if you know what's on them, you'll be fine. TAs are available and he's very approachable. Great Class
Doctor Thompson is an incredible professor, there are two midterms and a final (which is basically just another midterm) and they are all non-cumulative. Very approachable, and answers everything at office hours. Just read the textbook, do notes, attend lectures, memorize the study guides, and an A+ is not hard to achieve at all. Great class!!
Absolutely loved taking his class! Although the midterms could be a little challenging, all of the study guides he posts go over material that will/could be covered. He is an excellent professor and is very easy to talk to. I learned so much and I would highly recommend taking one of his classes.
Hands down the best professor I have had at Davis. Tests are a bit challenging, but his lectures are very clear and super interesting. He is so approachable and helpful that as long as you study, you will easily pass.
Lectures are VERY BORING! Dont even need to go. Posts podcasts and power points on smartsite. Technically there are 3 midterms, but they are not easy, must know how to apply information learned, simply knowing it wont get you a very good grade. Some aspects of the class are interesting others are dry and boring. Dr. Thompson is patient about Psych
He's a great professor! Really passionate about what he teaches. Kind of slacked off in the beginning of the quarter, or else I would've had an A. Tests aren't too bad, especially if you go over the review sheets!
This class was an intro to psych. It was interesting but there was a lot of reading. Thompson was a good teacher who explained things well and made study guides which were life savers for the tests.
One paper 5 pages double spaced. 2 tests so each one is on half the class. He's a really good professor, clear. Podcasts & Study guides, didn't try to trick you (wish he released the study guides earlier) but this is a good class with a good professor.
I really enjoyed this class and had considered minoring in Psychology after taking it. His lectures are interesting and engaging. There is quite a lot of reading in this class. The study guides he provides were really helpful.
One paper and two exams. Seems simple enough, but each exam covers half the class and so it's a LOT of material you need to go over before each exam, would've preferred one more test and less material on each one. Paper grades depend on TA (beware of Katie) but you will get a bad grade if what you say isn't the response they're looking for
Dr. Thompson is hands down one of the best professors I've taken at UC Davis. Although his class is not easy and does require you to really know the book for tests, he is clear with his expectations and is one of the only professors I've had that seems to truly care about increasing our intelligence. Very inspiring and clearly extremely qualified.
Lectures are long but he makes them very interesting; he clearly has extensive knowledge about the topics discussed, and he has a great sense of humor that makes class enjoyable.
Really good lecturer! He's very passionate about psychology and has a sense of humor. 2 midterms and a final, which was not cumulative. Online reading quizzes, so you had to do the reading, but not too closely because they were basically open book. Midterms/finals were MC and based mostly on his lectures and his study guides are really helpful.
Very nice guy who is obviously passionate about the subject and cares about his students. I hate to leave a bad review because I really like Dr. Thompson as a person. However, his lectures tend to drone on. Do not expect to succeed in this class if you are not an "auditory learner." Not many visuals going on, just puts up a slide and talks for yrs.
This class was so much work just because of the way that Ross structured the class. you take 12 quizzes which you have to read a whole textbook chapter to be able to do, then those scores are averaged together to account for a measly 15 points out of 150. Midterms covered so much content that it was difficult to study. I regret this class as a GE.
Look, don't get me wrong, Professor Thompson's personality is top notch, but in the end everyone cares about the grade and the ease of the class and I can tell you, the hype does not follow through. All he does in lecture, is drone on and on without directly telling you what you need for the tests. He is honestly not an easy professor.
Prof Thompson is awesome. He is very passionate about the subject. Please do all the quizzes and use the study guide for the midterm and final! Do not be lazy because it will catch up to you in the end. Go to his lectures and actually take notes! The best thing is that his final is non-cummulative. His light-hearted personality makes this class!
Cool guy, good professor. Don't have anything bad to say about his teaching style, but the grading is weird. I had an A in the class, and then he decided to make all our quizzes (we had 1 every week) just 15 points TOTAL out of the entire grade despite each quiz originally being 15 points each. Most of the kids who had A's lost them.
Great lecturer, truly cares about his students and explains what is expected of us from the get go. The class had 2 midterms and a final, but the final was basically a third midterm, and 2 open book chapter quizzes per week . He doesn't curve but, that's because his study guides outline everything for the midterm. Great class overall.
Thompson is a sweet guy who has a great sense of humor. The workload & material was easy but it wasn't an easy A class to me. There were 2 midterms and 1 final that were each 30% of your grade & then 10% was based on ur average chapter quiz grades(online quizzes that are due before each lecture) Do the study guides! Each exam gets easier too!
Thompson is extremely approachable, kind, and gives amazing lectures! He tries his best to give interactive lectures in a large class setting and seems to really care about the education of students. He's quite accessible outside class and makes sure the textbook is readily available. Beware his exams, they were pretty difficult.
Hands-down the best lecturer that I've ever had for Psychology. He's approachable, funny, adorable, and more than willing to get to know you and answer any questions you have. Weekly quizzes are open-book, midterms and exams are extremely lenient and can be finished in twenty minutes. Offers podcasts and slides of his lectures on Canvas.
Two tests and one paper. The exams cover half the class and he pretty much expects you to know everything. Before every class you have a reading quiz which is on a lot of material. I wondered why there were so few people in this class. The paper, he expects you to go on your own and ready chapters ahead of time to write the paper.
THIS CLASS WAS SO OVERWHELMING. THE COURSE CONSISTED OF ONE MIDTERM, A 5 PAGE PAPER, A FINAL, AND ONLINE CHAPTER QUIZZES. THE TESTS WERE SO TRICKY; EVEN THOUGH A STUDY GUIDE WAS GIVEN IT WAS NO HELP. THE STUDY GUIDES WERE SO LONG. IT WAS JUST IMPOSSIBLE TO KNOW ALL THE CONCEPTS.
Prof Thompson is a real gem. He's hilarious, interesting, and so nice. His class is easy as long as you keep up with the lectures (podcasts online too!) and read the textbook chapters. He gives you many resources if you want help or to study and even his grad TA's were great. He doesn't give too much work either. Take this class!
Professor is very passionate and knowledgable about subject. The lectures may be sort of dry but the topic is interesting overall. Tests are straightforward. Studied the quiz questions for the midterms. Allows you to redo the paper. Overall he wants you to know how to apply the material.
Thompson had 3 midterms + noncumulative final and weekly online quizzes about readings for the textbook. Sounds like a lot but the quizzes are easy and he gives you 2 attempts. He also provides study guides for before each midterm that are really helpful for the tests. If you're on the fence about taking him, take him!!
An amazing class. Thompson is a good lecturer even though he can get side-tracked but those are his funny moments. He likes to make the class laugh while being informative. His assignments are super easy and can be found on quizlet. His exams are pretty much from the quizzes and you basically have 3 midterms, not a crazy weighted final.
Go to class or listen to the audio. Take notes because his lectures help you with the exams. Do the readings and take the quiz. Go to office hours if you need any help. STUDY GUIDE HELPS. Its your passage to getting a good grade in the class. Most of it, if not all, is relevant to the Exams. He's super sweet & makes the lecture relatable and funny.
The class consists of two midterms and the final which is just another midterm. He provides study guides that are EXTREMELY helpful for the exams. There are two quizes each week that are really easy to complete. Overall a great class
Professor Thompson was honestly one of the greatest professors I've had. You can tell he really cares for his students through all of the materials he provides to prepare for his exams. Listen to his lectures! His tests are pretty much based on everything he says. The study guides are extremely helpful. I totally recommend this professor!
Dr. Thompson was an overall good professor. His lectures were useful but not mandatory. He gave very helpful study guides which made the test pretty easy as long as you do them thoroughly. The only thing is he requires you to do a quiz before coming to lecuture, it was easy and open-book but it got repetitive and was only worth 10%. Overall easy A
I honestly loved him! Has 3 midterms ( final literally 3rd midterm). Non-cumulative. Study guides are super useful. Easy onlinequizzes. Does podcasts. Cracks jokes & tells the ocassional story. Shows interesting videos related to subjects. A+ professor! Exams are literally what he says during lectures (use podcasts!) & textbook Qs from study guides
god bless ross Thompson. got a B in his class cause the first midterm I didnt do so hot on, and the grade is the two midterms and the final, but still, take this class. seriously. hands down the best prof for this class. Bless you ross and your big Alaska fleece jacket.
Sweet guy. His lectures put me to sleep, so I stopped going to them. I only showed up for his exams - and studied only the night before using online resources - and aced the class. The homework (Canvas quizzes based on textbook / lectures) was kind of annoying but, like the rest of his class, was very easy. If you want an easy A, take this class.
I never read the book, the quizzes were fairly easy and the harder questions could be found on line, lectures were interesting and hes super passionate. Studied for midterms for about 20 minutes the night before and got an A on all of them. No cumulative final (: 10/10 would recommend
Prof Thompson is super passionate and kind. His lectures get kinda boring sometimes but overall he's a great professor and the class is super easy and straightforward if you read the textbook and look over his lecture notes.
Difficult class but good. Prof was caring, knowledgeable, and loved to teach. Attendance was not necessary but was important to pass the class. I was able to stay awake in his class which says a lot. Good experience overall
Very caring and kind Professor. He seems to enjoy what he teaches and is passionate about the subject. Hardest thing was the paper, tough grading! DO THE STUDY GUIDES for the tests, everything on the test is in the study guide. Quizzes are easy A. Going to class isnt necessary, he posts podcasts and lecture slides. OVERALL great class.
Test questions were fair, but difficult. Weekly quizzes hold you accountable, but some of the answers are confusing, even after reviewing the textbook. The paper was graded harshly, even more so on the re-write, but the content was enjoyable. It's very difficult to get an A in this class since the grade is weighted like 90% the midterm and final.
A very warm professor who truly cares about his students. He said he has changed things about the class based on evaluation feedback, which I thought made the class very enjoyable & interesting. Quizzes & study guides he gives are extremely helpful for the exams and the paper was very fair. Overall a great professor and class!
He was okay, but honestly gave me a creepy vibe. Midterm and Final were worth too much of final grade. I would not recommend.
I took him in my first quarter at UC Davis and he is a really caring guy. I also had him as an honor's class, it was not bad. He does have you read the textbook before class, but it was not bad. He was does a great job of explaining, but midterms are worded wierdly. Make sure to do the practice midterms/final. Final is pretty much midterm 3.
My absolute favorite teacher at UC Davis and I didnt even get an A in his class (my fault). More qualified and more renowned than most other professors I had but teaches with humility. Lectures are long but he cares about your learning. Very genuine man who seems to be a great person outside of academia, too.
Professor Thompson is incredible!! I hands-down recommend this class. My best advice is always to attend lectures(he records them, but being there is enjoyable, and he is hilarious). READ THE BOOK!!!, find a study buddy, and attend office hours!! Prof. Thompson genuinely cares for his students and wants his students to succeed! TAKE THIS COURSE:)
Professor Thompson is caring and really know his stuff. The material was not hard, but there is quite a bit of work. The textbook is awful and way too dense. There are so many assignments back to back and it can get overwhelming. I would suggest only taking this course if you are interested in social work.
Dr. Thompson is very caring, knowledgeable, and approachable! The class consists of 3 exams, 2 quizzes each week, and 1 paper that you have the chance to rewrite. I recommend this class only if the topic interests you, because his lectures might get a bit dry and there's lots of info in general. You will do great if you take good notes/ask qs!
Professor Thompson is the sweetest prof I'd had at Davis. His lectures are super entertaining (even through Zoom) and he's very accomodating. The class is made of weekly quizzes on the textbook and three midterms (no final). I really enjoyed this class and would recommend him to anyone!
Professor Thompson is so kind and his lectures were always interesting and insightful. There was a lot of textbook reading, we read the whole book, which you take quizzes on, but the reading was usually engaging and quizzes were easy. 3 midterms (non-cumulative), based on the reading and his lectures. It was a fun class with a great teacher!
Prof. Thompson is so kind and caring. He provides Study Guides which are so helpful to concentrate on concepts that are important for exams. There are 3 exams (no cumulative), the questions are clear and straightforward. There are weekly quizzes (easy) about topics discussed in class. Lectures are long, and have to do lots of reading . Take Him!!
Had to complete a quiz on the reading before lectures. Graded by 3 tests, each 30% of grade, all multiple choice. Gives out very useful study guides before tests, gets you ready for the test. Overall if you understand multiple choice tests you will do well in this class. Very interesting as well
I get that quizzes have to be taken on time and that is your responsibility, but he should at least consider allowing those who missed their quizzes to take them with deducted credits.
Good lecturer, cares about students needs, overall great professor!
The topic about reinforcement vs. punishment is very confusing, because you have to guess which perspective the question is referring to.
A wonderful professor to have my first quarter here! Prof. Thompson is very kind, entertaining, and enjoyable to have as a professor. He made class fun and interesting, textbook is online, weekly quizzes and 3 midterms are open book and open note. (Yup, no final :) ) I highly recommend taking him at least once while at Davis!
Super passionate professor with a sense of humor. Really accessible and would take time in class to answer any questions from students. There are readings due each week right before he actually lectures on the chapter, and 3 noncumulative exams. All quizzes and exams are open note and open book.
One of the best professors I have had. His lectures are incredibly engaging and the material was taught extremely well. He makes an effort to connect with his student and answer all questions asked. His tests are pretty easy and test your knowledge of concepts instead of memorization. Definitely recommend. if you have the chance to take him, do it!
Professor Thompson is one of the most caring, kind, and passionate professors at UC Davis. His lectures are always entertaining and clear. The work isn't difficult, but there is a decent amount of reading per week, accompanied with chapter quizzes. If you read and pay attention in lecture, this class should be an absolute breeze.
Professor Thompson is very nice and funny. Class consists of textbook readings and 2 weekly chapter quizzes. Midterms multiple choice but even if you get 1 point off, it affects ur whole grade. Overall, a great teacher although his lectures may be a bit boring. Sad hes retiring :(
You can tell he really cares about every student. Final wasn't cumulative to help with the stress of other finals. He really taught the class for life application, so there was always something to take away from each lecture. 2 hour lecture and I never missed one. Great professor! I'm sad he's retiring, I would've taken him again.
AMAZING professor! I had a medical emergency and missed a lot of quizzes, and he reached out to me to see if everything was alright. He REOPENED the quizzes for me! There are 2 quizzes (that you can retake) every week and 3 midterms- all open notes and open book. I didn't go to 80% of the lectures due to my situation, and even then, I got a B.
Grade is based on textbook quizzes and 3 midterms, none of them cumulative and no final. All exams were fair, and were open-book/open-note. His lectures were interesting and he was very engaging with the class, always open to answering questions. Overall a great professor.
Cares about his students and Great guy. class consists of 3 tests that are take home and open notes.
Professor Thompson gives fantastic lectures. Seriously, very engaging, informative and entertaining. Most of the grading was on tests and quizzes, but it is very doable for the most part. Definately grew more interest in psychology because of his class.
This class was evenly paced, and the Professor was very effective in his lectures. However, nearly all of the testing materials (which were twice a week) were based off the textbook of the class. This textbook was AWFUL. It was not social justice friendly, to say the least, even though the professor himself was better about this in his lessons.
We had quizzes on each chapter but every exam (including the final and midterm) were taken at home and open note. The questions were pretty fair and sometimes were examples from the textbook itself. Everything was multiple choice as well. I enjoyed his class and his lectures, even if they were a tiny bit slow.
Professor Thompson is a fantastic lecturer who makes the material engaging and relevant. While there are weekly quizzes and midterms, they are fair and open-note. I found Unstuck study super helpful for studying and prepping. Overall, a great class to take!
