Probably the best prof I've ever had - great lecturer!
Enchanting, sexy, witty, and kind. Inspirational and sweet.
Great prof! Makes lectures funny and easy to understand. Great TA too (MK Low).
doesn't stick to the course, spends too much tim trying to be funny

tries to be funny but he's not..
If you're really "weak", take his course. Otherwise you will fall asleep easily
loves math & algebra... kinda scary thinkin' about that!
funny guy, never fell asleep in his class as i did in the others
TOO THEORETICAL
Excellent teacher, very helpful. Humour, while hit and miss, is welcome.

Very interesting and fairly easy to understand. A great Prof
An inspiration to procrastinators everywhere

Good lectures, he tries to make it entertaining. Midterms were REALLY easy.
awful
mean little man with no teaching or math skills
Best prof I've had. I recommend him to anyone who is taking math. He knows what he's doing and he makes it interesting. He deserves a plaque!
awesome prof! incredibly smart, very helpful to students, very clear lectures... and very weird sense of humour!! easy midterms too...
Great prof! Good notes, and makes sense in class. Very approachable. Tries for the humour, and its the effort that counts :)
Great prof. very enthusiastic and approachable. Hilarious!
Phenomenal prof! He know's how to keep to make us laugh and learn at the same time! The best algebra prof i've ever had! I owe my learning to his excellent teaching skills
Very nice guy, pretty funny...great prof, makes things easy to understand and explains the importance of each topic very honestly and clearly
Excellent prof. Very approachable. Just asked him one question about the mid-term and he took up the entire thing with me. :)
Hilarious! Makes crazy and eccentric jokes which wake you up in the morning. Called a theorem "The Big S***" once - made my year. Awesome guy (apparently from seattle)
The best prof I've had so far. He actually makes math seem fun! He is a hilarious guy and he's really easy to talk to. He definitely knows his material and his classes are planned out perfectly. I did really well in the course and it's all thanks to him.
He thinks too highly of himself and is really unfair marker. Don't believe the previous reviews!
He's creepy and mean.
excellent
One of the best profs I've had. Explains material exceptionally well and is very helpful outside of class. Only complaint is that notes weren't posted online and lectures were not in sync with the text.
He is a perfect professor
My favourite professor this term. Really nice, funny, and goes pretty easy on tests and assignments. My only complaint would be that his notes are not as organized as most math professors. Actual class material was extremely easy.
Maybe the best prof at UW. Funny as hell, very clear lectures and easy midterms(maybe too easy). You owe it to yourself to spend at least one semester in his class. If you don't get him for a core course, enroll in a PMATH course, even if you're in accounting or cs and don't give a rat's ass about fields.
Good lectures, fun assignments, fair tests. One of my favourite classes in the term. Highly recommended.
Excellent professor--and complemented by Zorzitto that term to boot. Very clear, very knowledgable, and great at keeping interest and energy up during the lecture. Writes like a fiend on the board--you REALLY learn how to multitask taking notes and paying attention in his course.
this dude is pretty much the most spectacular prof ever.
i love ross! ross is so great! he is the most amazing professor i've ever had. i will never in a million years find another professor who can make pure math as profoundly interesting and exciting as he does. yay! go ross!
i never went to class, but i heard he was awesome. he totally supports not diverting cereals away from the wormy, needy, orphaned children, in war-torn, communist countries. he doesn't want them to be reduced to eating their cats. Or fleas. Or worms. Which is great and totally just goes to show you what a decent dude he is.
THIS PROF IS DA BOMB!
Good speaker, good pitch and tone, writes very fast on the board - but the material presented in class is sufficient to solve assignments - textbook is just extra help if you missed a point. Good amount of examples. Bonus - he actually answers assignment questions IN CLASS before assignment due date.
He is a good example of a nerdy math prof. I admire his great brain surrounded by his nerdy glasses and center-emptied hair. His explanations are crystal-clear.
the best professor U of W could have ever hoped for. very funny, very nice, everyone at U of W needs to take a class with him. live on Ross Willard Appreciation Day!
FANTASTIC! Best prof I've had at UW so far, and I'm in term 4A!
Very good Prof! Very clear about the material. Didn't use text much, because it was not correct, so attending class was a must. Good assignments, and very fair exams. Always available for help outside of class, and he actually cares and helps out a lot. Great Prof! Highly Recommended if you can take a math class with him!
Great prof. Very helpful, and all around nice guy. Tests are fair. Assignments can be tough, but must be done (20% total grade). Lots of proofs, but he explicitly lists which of the tough proofs you're expected to know for the final (14 long, moderately tough proofs to memorize). Fun material, well presented. Can't really go wrong, if you work hard
I've had Willard as my teacher in a few Algebra courses, and he has turned out to be one of my faviorite profs at waterloo. Very energetic, knows his material very well, and his dark of humor keeps things down to earth when the material gets dry. If you're interested in pure mathematics, I highly reccomend taking his courses.
I love this professor. He's very nice, helpful outside of class and clear. He's also very silly which makes class a little more interesting. The Algebra book he used was very helpful. If he was teaching again, I would enroll in his class.
Ross is really one of the best profs in the department. I'm *not* a natural in PMATH courses (especially algebra), but he really presented group theory in a coherent well structured way that emphasized understanding rather than abstraction. Very straightforward tests, reasonable assignments. Good lecturer, nice guy. If only I'd had him for 345! =(
Course was extremely easy compared to every other PM course I've taken, much easier than 345. He went quite slow (can be good or bad). Assignments helped learn material but were fairly tame. Exams were very easy, maybe a little bit stretched for time on the midterm. What he taught he taught well. However he should have covered a bit more material.
Best prof ever
Fantastic first year professor, really helped me understand a difficult subject. Actually made me want to get up for 8:30 lectures and kept his teachings interesting and engaging.
One of the finest professor's I've had. Made one of the more challenging courses so much easier.
This prof is so COOL! I never get to sleep in his class even though it was an 8:30 one because he's so funny! He's clear in his explanations and has slides for his students. Recommended
I took his introduction to groups with him a couple of years back, and prof Ross is great! Although I didn't receive the best grade, he was always there for extra help and would break things down to make them simpler for us to understand. If I had known about him before, I would have taken the courses he teaches. He is very engaging duringlectures!
This professor many much good and clear. He will gave lecture notes very thorough explanation and posted online. Is funny guy in class and is the welcoming guy in office. However, for one thing i did not understand it and that is why did he always write iota with a dot and to confuse sometimes.
His lectures are fun and enjoyable, totally worth getting up early in the morning. His assignments are helpful for learning the course material, and he explain stuff really well in class and office hour.
The course itself is very challenging but Ross tries his best to make sure you understand. His humour keeps the lectures interesting. Go to his office hours if you need help, he really cares for his students and will do his best to help you succeed.
My favourite math prof I ever had. Concepts were difficult but he made it extremeely clear and easy to understand. He has an amazing sense of humor and really keeps the class focused on the material.
Ross teaches you how to understand Math. He presents you the lectures in a very logical manner and makes you think in the class. Best Math prof that I've ever gotten. Will definitely take a class with Ross again if I could.
Ross is definitely one of the best professors in UW. Very very smart guy and knows how to set you in the right direction. MATH135 was not easy but Ross made it fun and motivated me to work hard in this course. During his office hours, he really spends time to teach you and explain to you every detail of a question or notes from a lecture
A very good and smart prof. He knows how to explain it in your level. The course itself was tough though.
BEST. PROF. EVER! My favorite theorem is now DIC. Great explanations on everything, especially Fields and Polynomials. The course itself is tough though.
Really engaging and know how to pace the lectures. Does a really good job of making sure students don't fall behind.
Choose him, you will never regret!
Ross Willard's the man.
simply great
Amazing prof, really clear notes and presentation of concepts. Would highly recommend!
Soooooooo nice. I visit his office hours all the time, if for no other reason than to hang out and learn something cool. In our class, he made a real effort to connect with everyone in the class, pushing himself to learn everyone's name, for no other reason than because he could. Absolutely a fantastic class, 11/10.
Great lecturer, he's smart and passionate and it definitely shows. Also this course is very easy, half the final exam was computation based (find the determinant of this matrix etc), another 1/3 was regurgitation of proofs and definitions. Still, he's a really funny guy and makes lectures enjoyable even if the content gets a bit dry sometimes.
Very cool, helpful and knowledgable professor. Would like to take his course again if possible:)
Strongly recommend
Hes such a hilarious prof, makes lectures so interesting and fun and even though his assignments are a bit easier than other classes, by the time of evaluations you feel very prepared
Prof. Willard is an awesome professor. Hilarious in his lectures and is really motivating. He made Linear Algebra very easy to understand and explains concepts very well. I'd love to have him again for a future course.
Really enjoyed going to lectures!! I'd go to all of his classes if not for the fact that I'm not actually a pmath student...
Amazing teacher with great lectures! The exams are easy and the assignments are great for learning.
Very care student, assignment workload balanced, not too difficult.
Very good professor, organized videos.
Professor Ross is the best pure math professor I have met so far. He provides very informative typed pdf lecture notes and excellent elaborations during lectures. His handwriting is good so you can understand everything he wrote on the blackboard. Assignments and quizzes are fair and doable. Overall, 9.7/10.
Professor Willard is the best pure math instructor I have ever met. He provides clear typed PDF lecture notes and he gives awesome elaborations during lectures. His handwriting is also clear so you can easily understand what he wrote during lectures. Assignments and quizzes are doable and fair.
