always willing to help!

Awesome professor, get to know her
Incredibly Hot, Will Fail you wiht a hug and a smile
crams too much into a smal semester but is ALWAYS willing to help
Very hard exams, tries to test too much. But, a great teacher and very engaging lecture. Also, always wants to help.
this class was horrible. she teaches as if we're in third grade, then tests us as if we're graduate students. class is not analogous to testing.her style is horrible, and is the worst science teacher here and i would know-i am a bio major. she just sucks

Very enthusiastic about material and takes an active interest in learning students names and creating a personal atmopshere, even though this is a lecture class.
Agreeing with a previous comment, she lectures as if we're children. The subject itself is easy and memorization-based, but she tests everything she has ever said in class, so review sheets are long. She could just say know everything, which is ****ed.
She obviously puts a lot of effort into preparing for class and uses powerpoint frequently. Always available for extra help.
Great teacher, but very demanding. She will murder you on the test but you'll still want to be best friends. She won't test on anything you havn't seen but will test on every single thing you have. Brilient prof., and always willing to help!
She is a professor because she wants to teach, not because she wants the title. I would recommend any of her classes.

Tough grader, classes are long, and she moves very fast, keep up on the material if you plan to do better than a C-. She is nice, but is very hardcore about her classes. This class was a ger dont take if you want an easy A.
If she said it in class, it'll be on the exam, which is a bit irritating. But other than that, she's awesome, her lectures were fairly interesting for so early in the morning, and I feel like some of it has practical applications. I highly recommend her, but don't expect an easy A.
OMG i loved this class, even though i hate science. Rowan is eye candy, so that makes it even better. Take this class, but study A LOT for exams.
Excellent Professor. Extremely willing to help you out. She had two review sessions for every single problem set or test and encouraged students to email her to meet one on one if they had anymore questions. She is very enthusiastic and involved the entire class in lecture.
EXCELLENT!!!!!!!!!!! Not much more than I can say. Work is easy, material is easy, piece of cake, easy A.
Lockwood is awesome! She is definitely my favorite professor so far. really enthusiastic about what she teaches and always willing to help! study a lot for exams tho, go to the review sessions they help a lot! you don't need to read to get a good grade, just take good notes and study for exams.
Probably the nicest teacher I've ever had. Will work with you if you have ANY problems.
Really really great! shes nice and clear and not too difficult. so take it, good ger credit.
Exams aren't easy, so study hard. But Prof. Lockwood is the best -- smart as hell, charming, engaging. And, yes, she's hot, too.
I don't like science, but I loved this class. Friendly and Enthusiastic-whole Geo dept has students call them by their first names. Got the whole class (100+) to participate. Exams had a lot of material, but if u go to class and study A's are possible. Always available for help. No need to read the text book-use for reference for problem sets
FANTASTIC professor. Interesting lectures. Has so many help sessions and office hours - if you take advantage, you'll do well. Very intelligent, friendly, and just a great teacher.
She really loves geology and is very knowledgable about it. She has 2 review sessions for each exam and each problem set so taht you wont be confused-always available thru office hours too. you dont need to read the textbook, just study the lecture notes (verbal and nonverbal) and review sheets. Friendly and nice to all. I definitely recommend her.
Super friendly and helpful, besides being very knowledgeable about her subject. Don't be shy about emailing her or going to office hours. I hate science, but this was a not-too-painful way to use up a GER. Its also helpful to have a friend in the class for tests and problem sets. More math than I expected, but if I got through it, anyone can.
Hot hot hot! Dr. Lockwood is a real joy to learn from. Friendly and vivacious, she's so eager to teach that she routinely runs out of breath during class. VERY approachable and down-to-earth, she still manages to cover a myriad of Geology-related topics and make them pertinent, informative, and just plain fun. Perfect for those looking to nail 2A!
She is the nicest teacher i have had here. She is always willing to help you outside of class. She holds review sessions before tests and problem sets. Gives you review sheets and practice problems. She learned everyone's name in the class in the first two weeks. Even if you dont like science or rocks still take the class becuase she is great!!

Grades tests hard - you have to know everything. But she's such an amazing teacher that if you make a decent effort you WILL know everything. Clearest teacher I've ever had in my life. Always willing to go over things after class, and funny! Best way to fulfil the GER.
She's amazing! Great lectures, tests and problem sets are no trouble as long as you study! I definately reccomend it =)
Fantastic teacher! She teaches effectively and will bend over backwards to help people outside of classroom time. The tests are very in-depth, and you will have to study a great deal in order to get full credit. This is a fine way to fulfill the Science GER. It helps that she's pretty too. :)
AMAZING professor. Though I was required to take this class as an education major, she made it interesting, even at 9 a.m. each morning. There are lots of concepts to know, but they are not too difficult to grasp as long as you go to class and study the lecture slides. EXTREMELY helpful and friendly. Rowan is awesome!!!
She's AWESOME! Really organized lectures - plus she puts her powerpoints up on blackboard - and she keeps it interesting! Definitely the best way to fulfill the GER! She's really helpful and just completely wonderful!
Incredibly engaging prof; wants you to do well and will bend over backwards to help you. She really knows her stuff. Go to the help sessions for problem sets if you are confused. You don't need to read the book but it is a good ref for some of the problem sets. Exams can be tricky, so make sure you study. Otherwise, excellent course.
Absolutely fantastic. If you have an excuse to take a geology course (like a GER) take her class! She can be hard but is extremely fair. More than willing to help students out. So smart, friendly, nice, caring, enthusiastic and easy to talk to. Hands down one of my favorite professors at W&M.
Fantastic! best teacher ive ever had. very clear about information, enthusiastic, and really nice and helpful!
She is a Godsend! I bombed the first test and she met with me many times before the second to help go over things. She really cares that her students do well. Boosts your grade with participation (so go to class!) but lectures are interesting, helpful and organized. Take her!!
Best teacher/professor I have ever had. Very engaging, she took a subject I never liked and made it one of my favorites. Very fair test but can be difficult at times. Plenty of opportunites to pull your grade up, Everyone should take her at least once while you are at W&M!
Rowan is pretty great. She boils down the concepts into terms we non-science people understand. Tries to apply material to real-life situations. Class felt a bit high school at times, but I learned a lot. She's a really nice professor. Go to office hours. Tests are really difficult though, so study way in advance and go to help sessions.
im taking her class right now. shes the nicest professor ive ever had, goes way out of her way to help everyone. the tests are hard, she expects you to know pretty much everything shes ever lectured on, so definitely study a LOTTT for them. but shes so helpful and nice, if you study you should be fine.
Fantastic prof! Lectures are informative and entertaining. You can tell she loves the subject. Great outside of class too. Prefers fun projects and field trips over exams.
Great Professor. Will bend over backward to help you. Go to review sessions, especially for the problem sets because they will save you life. Studying is a must for the exams. Boost your grade by going to class. Participation is 10% of your grade.
Clear and interesting lectures, cool labs and field trips. Super nice outside of class and willing to help you through your problems. Assigned grant project which was helpful for improving research skills and for learning to think scientifically. Lots of useful mini in-class assignments. Would definitely recommend.
Best teacher EVER! She is incredibly helpful, and she's always at her office hours. She often takes the department on really cool field trips and she's one of the smartest people I know. Take her class!
Rowan is definitely one of the best professors at WM. I've taken 110 and 303 with her. Classes are worth going to, she makes the info easy to understand and is super helpful outside of class; she really takes in interest in her students. Her tests are hard, but fair; the amount of time you study will be reflected in your overall grade. Take her!
She's the best, super helpful and always available. Definitely one of my favorite classes I have taken so far. She made the class very fun, relaxed and easy to follow. There are great field trips too!
Great professor. Very helpful and easy to approach. Don't be confused though, she expects a lot; even for small courses. Highly recommend.
Rowan is probably the best professor I've had at WM. She's very willing to help you and answer questions outside of class. A great lecturer and very knowledgeable about everything in her field of study. Word of caution: she expects a lot out of her students, but you end up wanting to do well so you don't disappoint her! Would highly recommend her
She literally pushed me over line from undecided to wanting to major in Geology. She loves her subject, and is extremely helpful/accessible; she WANTS you to succeed. The best thing you can do is go to class, because there is a grade for participation. Participating and showing up is a great way to boost your grade.
Lockwood is a great professor. She makes it clear exactly what will be on the test. If its not on the powerpoints, it will likely not be on the test. She is very accessible outside of class and encourages you to ask questions. The grade consists of 3 tests, 3 problem sets(that you can work with a partner on),and participation(basically attendance)
Professor Lockwood is awesome. She is really nice and very organized. Her lectures are very straight forward and her lecture slides are always available on blackboard before class. Her lectures are very engaging and enjoyable, encouraging class participation. It feels like a small class even if there are 150 students. And she gives extra credit.
I'm not interested at all in geology and so this class was difficult for me, but Professor Lockwood is very helpful and approachable. Definitely go to her sessions if you need help with the many problem sets. She manages to make the material engaging, but not sure I would recommend her for someone who is just taking it to fulfill the GER.
ROWAN IS AMAZING!!!!! I'm not interested in Geology as a major, but she definitely makes class fun and interesting.... I'm definitely taking more classes with her! SHE ROCKS
W&M needs more professors like Rowan Lockwood. She is in a league of her own. Her enthusiasm for the subject is contagious and I have never had a teacher as accessible and patient as Rowan. She is unbelievably dedicated to her students. It is clear that she genuinely cares about you and wants to see you excel. W&M is so lucky to have her.
Rowan is amazing, exceptionally talented, and could not be more helpful. I have now taken 5 classes from her, however she is not an easy professor...in fact her exams are very difficult. I strongly recommend taking her but if you do you need to study like crazy and come to class...She is amazing though!
Intelligent, personable, enthusiastic, a great communicator, and more. William & Mary is lucky to have her - even though the class is tough, she prepares you well and is always available for extra help. Geology is way outside my area of interest but Rowan is splendid.
Rowan is an excellent professor who has great energy during lectures and will go out of her way to help students. Makes material clear and easy to understand and makes geology fun!
Lockwood is the best! She wants her students to succeed: she hosts study sessions before tests (2 midterms and a final) and before problem sets (3). She 's really clear through her emails she sends. She makes the 100 person lecture hall feel really small because she takes times to know all her students (she knew about 90% of the names). Take her!
She is amazing. She actually cares about her students and always has office hours and VERY helpful review sessions. She is funny and the class took a topic that I had no interest in and made it fun and easy. I definitely recommend her if you want an easy GER.
Rowan is one of the best professors at W&M. Her lectures are very engaging and she makes it so that you want to go to class. She holds review sessions and always gives partial credit so that you can do as well as possible. In a class of 100 people she learned almost everyone's name. Take a class with her if you can.
DO NOT TAKE for a GER! Great professor and person but course is very hard if you are not taking for a major or minor requirement! Not worth it to get the GER out of the way.
Rowan is by far one of the best professors on campus. Her enthusiasm for the subject material makes it enjoyable to learn. Test can be hard but she outlines exactly what you need to study and holds reviews sessions to prep you. I would highly recommend taking a class with her even if you don't have a strong interest in geology.
Lockwood is Brilliant and very helpful. The course is challenging. So, be prepared to work (I failed the first exam). Still, Rowan provided good feedback and I was able to pull a B in the class. I'm definitely not a science person, but she is one of the best professors I've had at The College.
Professor Rowan is AMAZING. She is genuine, caring, and respected. She is always willing to reach out to her students and she's very approachable. She outlines everything that you need to study in order to prepare for her exams. She tends to vary her testing ( short answer, contrast, essay, etc). I highly recommend any of her classes, she rocks
Very few grades, lots of memorization for tests. if you don't like memorization then don't take this class. tested on material covered in class so attendance is mandatory. if you like dinosaurs then you'll love it. Professor Rowan is fantastic.
Rowan is a great person, she's one of the nicest teachers I've had and if you go to her office hours she will help you out. That said this is the hardest class I've taken(and I've taken all the required premed classes). If you come from a non geology background you might struggle like I did.
Take her!!! She is an amazing human being and is so passionate about what she teaches. She is my favorite professor and person I have even encountered in my time at WM. You will not regret a minute spent with her.
Professor Lockwood is a complete gem. I am by no means a science oriented student so the class difficulty is high for me. The first exam is difficult and the test preparation is intense. However, her lectures are not only informative but so entertaining! Grades off of class participation so show up ready to work and study hard.
One of my favorite professors so far!! Very accessible outside of classes, willing to help and try to help you in various ways. Review sessions before each problem set, midterm and final. Extra credit opportunities provided. The course is quite informative but as long as you study hwk questions and memorizing concepts A is very possible.
Rowan is without a doubt the most liked professor on campus. Never a dull moment. Attendance is important because she sometimes includes things not in the lecture slides, and you're expected to know them for the test. Her tests require a lot of studying but are concise and fair. Regardless of your major, take her class. TAKE IT.
See, Professor Lockwood is so so nice. But that's about it. Her tests make it impossible to get above a C, even when you put in a lot of effort. Honestly, not worth it. You're better off without taking this class
One of the nicest professors I've had, and class is always engaging and never dull. However the tests can get tricky. All fill in the blank/short answer/essays. Fun class overall
Rowan is an inspiring professor, with an astounding grasp on the curriculum she teaches. I look forward to taking every class she offers. Great class, would absolutely recommend to anyone. Rowan is one of a kind, don't waste the opportunity to learn from her.
I honestly took this class for the C200 label, but I am now exiting as a possible geology major. Rowan Lockwood is completely down-to-earth and does her best to be personable even in 70 person lectures. Her office hours are more than helpful in prepping for problem sets and exams or even talking about your future. Cannot recommend her more
The class was much harder than expected, especially since part of our grade was participation, even though it was a big lecture class. She is a wonderful professor and person, I just found the class and the department to be too memorization heavy for my liking.
Amazing Professor! Definitely not an easy class, but she's a very fair grader/ test maker. If you study and do the work you will do fine. I can't wait to take more classes with her!
This is by no means an easy class in terms of grading since your grade is basically the sum-up of three exams. No multiple choice questions, no grade dropped, and VERY little room for mistakes. Professor Lockwood is an excellent professor who is very willing to help and very straightforward in lectures. But it's very challenging to get above a B.
It's a challenging class! make yourself study for it!
LOVE HER! Great professor, her tests are challenging but sends out a list of things you should know (which is very lengthy) and also has a review session. Practice problem sets are pretty easy grade boosters as you can ask her many questions, use notes, and go to the review session on it. Her lectures are very engaging, and well done.
Do not take if you are not a geology major/have an interest in science. Lockwood is an amazing professor and a nice person, but her class is unrealistically hard. The tests are insanely difficult and they are based off of application of thousands of vocab words.
As an intro level class, this class is incredibly hard (if you aim at an A or A-). The class average is around 85 (a B). You need to memorize every single word on the slides accurately in order to receive credits in the exams. Grading can be wired. I recommend studying 20+ hours before each exam. It's all about accurate memorization. Good luck!
Im not great at science, so this class was difficult for me, but I still enjoyed it. Lockwood is awesome and makes the material easier to understand. But tests make up 75% of your grade, so study hard and get help!
i think it's a very challenging class if you are unfamiliar with the testing style. study hard and memorize everything on the slides and you will be fine.
This class is designed for geology majors, so it is challenging and intense and requires a lot of commitment. If you only wish to satisfy the COLL requirement and have a lot of other work to do, I would suggest considering another class.
I LOVE ROWAN!!! This class was absolutely fantastic. Personally, I didn't find the course material as challenging as a lot of other people did. Just make sure you really really study the material and you should be alright. There are also quite a few extra credit opportunities. A fantastic course, but maybe I'm biased because I love dinosaurs!
Professor Lockwood is very caring and makes an effort to get to know all of her students. GEOL303 (Age of Dinosaurs) was fairly easy, though it was mostly based on memorization. Participation and in-class activities together make up 30% of your grade so you need to attend. You don't really need to buy the textbook (if you do, buy the older edition)
A great lecturer, took time to get to know each student even in a large lecture hall. I missed my final and she was super understanding and let me take it the same day.
Love her but very hard class! She gives amazing lectures and does lots of group activities, its important to attend so you can get a good grade both due to the activities and because the exams are based off lectures and stuff she says in class. Really interesting class with a great prof but the exams were super hard even though I studied 10 hours.
Rowan is the best! Her lectures are interactive and help you learn the material just that much better. The exams are hard, though. If you make a study guide and spend time with the material, you should be fine on the exam. Age of Dinosaurs is such a fun class, and I would recommend it to anyone.
I love Rowan. By far my favorite professor at W&M, and even though I'm not a fan of paleontology, I took her upper level seminar anyway just to take a class with her again. She makes you work for it, but you will definitely learn and retain a lot of information. Truly cannot recommend her enough.
This class gave me so much anxiety. We had to have our cameras on (which meant no privacy for being at home). Really specific test questions. Basically all just rote memorization. One time we studied like 35 bones in the dinosaur face and she quizzed us on one of them. Too much material is covered on her quizzes, and that makes them impossible.
Rowan Lockwood is an amazing professor, one of my all-time favorites. The class doesn't hand you an A, but it's entirely feasible to attain one. She generously provides quiz study sessions and tutoring for all assignments. Her lectures are great & I actually learned. Most importantly, she really cares about students and is an impressive role model.
I absolutely love Professor Rowan! Please take a class with her - she is very passionate about her material and is there to help her students truly succeed. I am not a STEM major, but because she was easily accessible at any time if questions arose for me. Age of Dinosaurs was so much fun - one of my favorites at the college.
Rowan was friendly and communicated well with students. Class was fun and she was very enthusiastic. She felt well with having half the class in person and half on zoom and was so accommodating.
Professor Lockwood is genuinely one of the best professors I have ever had at W&M. She truly cares about her students and will work with you at an individual level. Her paleontology class was one of my favorite classes I have taken so far. It is not easy, but if you stay engaged with the material and participate you should be okay.
Professor Rowan's Age of Dinosaurs is a 10/10! If you need a Coll 200 NQR, I could not recommend this class more! I am not good at science, yet I loveddddd it! Some quizzes are harder than others, but she truly cares.
Honestly, this was my favorite class and favorite professor so far. Lockwood's lectures are so interesting and she also adds a lot of humor into them. She's enthusiastic about the topic. Quizzes were open note, no midterm, and you get EC for answering questions in class. A really easy and lovely Coll 200 NQR if you're looking for one.
I took this class as a humanities major needing my NQR requirement. Professor Lockwood is a good lecturer and is knowledgeable. However, for a non-STEM major, the course was very difficult. You have to memorize tons of information which was very difficult, even though quizzes were open note. I don't recommend your class if u are not stem.
I took this class as a non-stem major for a COLL200 NQR. Rowan easily made the class one of my favorites. She is so knowledgeable about the material and wants students succeed in her class as much as they can. Age of Dinosaurs is interesting, but Rowan makes it FUN. Quizzes are open note, but the final isn't. Lots of memorization, but doable.
Prof. Lockwood is great. The class consists of participation in the form of poll everywhere, 6 quizzes (takes the best 5), a handful of larger assignments, and a final. Overall, the class is very manageable if you study well. Even in a class of 100, you could tell Lockwood cares about you as an individual. I highly recommend this dino course!
Rowan is super passionate and knowledgeable about all things dinosaurs. She speaks fast while lecturing, but posts lecture slides on Bbd. Lots of memorization and some calculations required for this class, but it's all doable. Rowan is happy to explain things again and genuinely wants to see her students succeed. One of my favorite classes so far!
Rowan's great. A good lecturer, wants you to succeed, is willing and able to work with you outside of class. Has a passion for the material and wants you to learn and enjoy it.
This class is incredibly hard and requires tons of efforts. I'm not a science major and took this class to fulfill the COLL requirement. I ended up spending over 60% of my time and energy on this single class and ended up not having enough time for my other classes. Each exam requires at least a week of intense preparation (25+ hours at minimum).
This class is by no means a 100-level class. It assumes a lot of prior knowledge and education background and is designed for geology majors. Exams are extremely hard if you have no geology background because everything is based off of prior knowledge. Prof. Lockwood said you must study at least 20+ prior to each exam.
Professor Rowan is such an angel! She provides the textbook online for free and gives out study guides for everything on the tests you send her your study guide or go to her office hours she can also revise it for you in case you missed anything. There were 3 big exams and an every-class attendance grade along with a few assignments.
I liked this class. Required a good bit of studying but for sure managable
She's one of the BEST professors I've taken. She's passionate about the material and cares A LOT about her students. She is accessible outside class and wants you to do well. Age of Dinos is an amazing class, it's SO much fun + interesting. There are 3 exams (you have to understand the concepts to do well), and assignments (graded on correctness).
Just took this class for the NQR and had so much fun. She's super engaging, keeps things simple, and makes it easy to succeed. Gave multiple extra credit opportunities, distributed points well across assignments, and was always super accessible (literally gave us her phone # before an exam in case we had questions). So easy and SO interesting!
Prof Lockwood has amazing lectures and is super helpful and accessible outside of class.
Professor Rowan is absolutely fantastic, her lectures are incredibly engaging and she's very approachable. You don't need a biology or geology background for this class, but be ready to study for the midterms. All assignments (there aren't that many) can be worked on in groups, but are definitely short and easy enough to do on your own.
Prof. Lockwood is available outside of class and very understanding. Lectures are engaging. The homework is group work and is very easy. The class itself is not hard. However, it does require studying because most of the information isn't common knowledge or sense. The textbook was available for free through the library which was nice.
Prof Lockwood is super sweet. It is clear she is passionate about her subject matter. Her lectures are engaging, straightforward, and recorded, which is an added bonus. Class is extremely dense in material, but study in advance and go to office hours for tips and tricks--you'll do great. She's amazing, take her dinosaurs class!
One of the most incredible profs EVER! Entirely caring, lots of review sessions, answers any and every question, and lectures are dense but NEVER boring. Interesting, fun, + pretty easy class, you don't need to read the textbook. 3 assignments outside of class, 2 midterms and a final (she gives great review guides). Please take a class w/Lockwood!!
She's a greater lecturer. She can be a hard ass with grading, but if you take good notes you'll do great! She's a very dynamic lecturer. It's a lot of material but well taught! She is very compassionate and wants to help students if you explain your situation to her. Great office hours and support. She wants to see her students succeed!
Professor Lockwood is incredible! As someone who dislikes science, I found myself excited to go to this class and learn. She incorporates so many subjects and is an engaging lecturer. Only drawback is that exams cover a lot of content, however, she provides detailed review sheets and hosts review sessions. She is always happy to meet outside class!
Professor Rowan is fantastic - her lectures are engaging, and she's super accessible. The class isn't too difficult, and there are great study resources like Unstuck study to help prep for exams.
Can't say enough great things! TBH was dreading the class as a non-science person, but it ended up being one of my favs! You have to put in the work to do well and there's lots of content, but it is engaging and accessible for all learners and majors. Rowan is always open to answer questions and is extremely fair, kind, and understanding.
Professor Lockwood is amazing. She is funny, very passionate about the subject, and always willing to help and answer questions. This was one class I would always look forward to going to, tests are difficult and she is a tough grader but she will always help out. I would highly recommend taking this class if you can get in.
Rowan is one of the best teachers and mentors I HAVE EVER HAD! She is so caring and class is delightful and funny. It was a lovely class to get settled into campus. It was great fun and really fascinating. It truly inspired me to take geology as a double major. I can't recommend it enough! She pushes you to be your best self. Rowan is absolute gem
She's incredible. Great with lectures, very accommodating, always makes time for a review session, and she really cares about the material you're learning. The exams are hard. They're very detailed and cover like everything she talks about, but she won't test you on anything that's not on the study guide. If you study a bunch, you should be fine.
Professor Lockwood is by far the best professor I've had at W&M so far. The class is so interesting and cool. I didn't really find dinosaurs fascinating before this class but now I'm basically addicted to them. It's perfect if you want a chill NQR. There are 3 assignments, two midterms, and a cumulative final - but they're all manageable.
Rowan is a gem at W&M, which is why I just had to take another one of her classes! Paleo has its fair share of memorization, but passionate class conversations make up for anything that might otherwise be boring. She is endlessly kind, a wonderful person, and an even more fantastic and inspiring professor.
Rowan is an amazing professor and always willing to answer questions. This class is pretty dense but the lectures are engaging and she makes it clear what you are expected to know for the exams. Would highly recommend taking a class with her if you can!
Professor Rowan is simply amazing. She's one of the best professors I've ever had, and I've had some great ones. Very smart and a very good lecturer. The tests are hard, and there's lots of memorization (but that's just paleo). I highly recommend her!
Took for NQR, loved all the info, not too hard just need to study for the 2 midterms and the 1 final (all cumulative)
I don't reccommend her COLL 150; I only took it for the requirement but I would advise finding another class for it because it's a lot of cousework (for an intro class, which is why I say this), especially comparing it to other COLL classes I also took this semester it was just a lot for seemingly no reason.
