In my opinion, Ms. Korpal is much too easy a teacher for Biology 118. If you just need a natural science credit take her class. Easy A. However, if you are going into the health field I strongly advise you not take her as she does not prepare you well for higher classes. 60pt tests with 15 pts extra credit....very hard to score lower than a 55

Communication is the key w/her! Grades fairly. Read your book, ATTEND class, RECORD her lecture and you will do great.

Take good notes and you'll do well. Lots of chances for extra credit *IF* you show up for lectures.

She is passionate about her teaching, she brakes it down for you. She really cares for your learning. She helps a lot. Always answers questions and she always gives tons of extra credit! I love her took her for both bio 241&242.

She's amazing! Gives you tons of extra crds (about 10-20pts each test) and goes very easy on your test (take-home, team-up, open text book etc) Read the text book before your take home test because she makes sure all the answers are covered in there. She's nice and funny and passionate and is everything you want your instructor to be!

One of my best instructor! she will make Human A&P easier and you will love to learn how your body works too!

By far the best professor I have had. Extra credit (popquiz) covers previous lecture. Print slides and take notes on them, you'll ace the tests that way. Active listening is a must, as well as effort. Lectures are GREAT and ENJOYABLE! Easy class if you put forth the effort to learn. You'll enjoy Korpal and learn a great deal. Great professor!

She's very considerate. You have to attend class to know the content of lectures and not to miss pop quizzes. Even though we have many quizzes and tests, she gives us lots of extra points. She makes things easy to understand. Sometimes, it's a bit hard to get what she is saying because of her accent but it won't be a problem

Rowena is a caring mother that everyone loves. She makes sure you get the knowledge and you need to work in her class. She'll help you as much as she can. Tons of extra crd each test and after grading our finals, she reviewed them again to add as much point as she could base on our answers and that changed my final grade. I really really love her.

Put it this way: you do your job and she'll makes sure she helps you in any possible way (take home test, partner test, open test, extra crd etc) I never know any other instructors that give away extra crd as much as Rowna does. You need to show up because she has pop quizzes or pop-extra crd.

One tip: record her lectures and listen again to take more note when you come home. This changes my grade from 3.1 to 3.8 in 241 and 242. And remember when she says she will ask something in the test, because she will! Also remember to review the practice tests because she always take some questions in there for the actual tests.

I went into the course hating science, and she made me like it again. She's an amazing lecturer and really tries to make sure everyone understands the material. You'll have to study hard for the tests, but you can score over 100% on all of them, and if you do that you won't have to take the final!

Rowena was a joy! She explains things well and answeres questions right away. She offers so much extra credit! I will say that without the supplemental instructor (tutor), I would not have done as well in the class. She asks trick questions and seeks very specific answers and the SI was invaluable at learning how she structures tests.

She is amazing, truly cares, and makes sure you understand but explains that it is up to you to study the material. The people who complain are the people who dont put the time in. She does pop quizzes. Participation and being involved is key. Practice tests help a lot and do go through the book because she pulls from ppt and the book. Lots of EC!

Best teacher for A and P, period.

Rowena is hands down the best prof ever. She gives tons of extra credit, is super caring, explains things wonderfully, is so funny, and always adjusts the workload according to what the class is ready for. AP is a tough class no matter who you take, but she made it fun and easier. I love her so much and I wish every professor was like her.

Tough course, but very manageable if you put forth the work and effort. She gives more extra credit than any other A&P teacher I know. If you show you care she will do everything she can to help you pass. If you don't she will show no mercy. She knows what she is talking about. If you are going into the medical field I highly recommend her.

I LOVE ROWENA! Personally one of the best Bio teachers on campus. Her Lectures are great and interesting. She makes you work for the grade but its worth every second. Be prepared to work, but love the class.

Rowena was a truly great professor. She answers all questions, is very passionate about biology, and is a kind and funny person. The course has a lot of group work, interesting labs, and we even went on a lake walk (to survey plants and animals). I loved this course, it is highly recommended.

Ive had few professors that make the class enjoyable but challenging at the same time. Rowena definitely does that. She is fun to listen to because she genuinely enjoys teaching the material. She hosted Friday sessions that were non mandatory but very helpful. She really tests on what she teaches so no need for much reading of the book.

Korpal is the best professor I've had. This class is not hard and is designed to be extremely doable IF you actually put in effort. I learned so much but never felt overwhelmed or discouraged. Practice tests are always posted, pop quizzes have tons of extra credit, and questions are very reasonable. I'd love to take another class with her!

Honest to God, the single best professor I have ever had and probably will ever have. She is so caring and sweet. Just like a mother. She is strict but will do everything possible to get you to know the information. Don't get lazy and do your part and you will pass with flying colors. Again, best professor ever.

Rowena is the best professor I have ever had. This class requires a lot of outside studying but absolutely pays off in the end. Her lectures are exciting and her worksheets are very helpful. This professor makes sure a student understands a concept and definition in real life terms so one can apply to every day Life. Be prepared!!

If you want to have a huge heads up on other students when you get into nursing school take Rowena! I am in nursing school and the things she covers and emphasizes will give you that advantage. She expects you to learn and take the course seriously. If you dont care or youre not trying, she probably wont waste time on you. Best teacher ever!

Dr. Rowena is the best professor I have ever had. I took her for summer quarter and it was very difficult. Be prepared to study! She is very fair and truly wants her students to succeed. She gives tons of extra credit! Shes funny and caring. record her lectures and youll do great!

Professor Korpal is a very good teacher for A&P. You must study, read the book, listen to PP, and take notes for everything. If you fail, its on you. She gives you every way possible to pass in the lab and lecture. Keep up with material and LISTEN to everything she says.

She is the best professor for A&P!! Such a hard course but Rowena really takes the time to make you understand the material. If you dont like the grade you get on an exam, go to her office hours and she will give you more points sometimes 20 whole points just for talking to her and going over things!

Rowena is the best A&P instructor Ive taken. She goes in detail and really really cares about her students. She does SO MUCH to help you pass with a ton of extra credit that my grade went up from a 2.2 to a 3.0 with extra credit alone!! Bio241 is difficult and yes you do have to do work to pass!!! but Rowena is amazing and I highly recommend.

She is honestly great! Bio 241 is a hard class regardless which professor teaches you, but she always gives you so many options on ways to study. You have to put in the effort and a lot of time to memorize and understand all the terms. She always gives extra credit in all her tests and pop quizzes. She also gives a lot of in class study worksheets.

Rowena's probably the best A&P teacher at Pierce hands down. She does give extra credit opportunities on every pop quiz, exam, practical, and even the final. She provides so many resources on canvas. In lab she will glove up and help you when learning the dissections of the cat. Don't be intimidated to ask questions. I asked questions and survived.

Rowena makes you really get into it, the lab exams are frightening, but when you know the answer, omg you feel like you have conquered the world. If you wanna know your stuff, take Rowena, one of my best college experiences to date.

Rowena is an amazing professor. She is dedicated and offers help/ clarification during lectures. Her lectures are organized, but as a non "science" major, it was very hard to keep up. Make sure to attend all zoom meetings, practice on WILEY+, and study her powerpoints. This isn't an easy class, but you will LEARN a lot. Lots of respect for her.

I love Rowena! She is absolutely hilarious and she made her lectures more fun. This class itself is rigorous and a heavy load but she actually helped me understand the material. I definitely recommend taking her. In my opinion, she is not really that tough of a grader and she gave out many extra credit assignments. You just have to study!

Professor Korpol is a kind and detailed professor. Her test questions are very difficult, but is open to discussing them and will typically give you the points if you can justify the answer you gave. On one exam I got a 60 but then got 30 points back. I had her class during Covid and she did have a lot of computer trouble. A solid choice.

Dr. Korpal is brilliant, kind and patient. She is thorough with her lectures & ensures to teach what is valuable for her exams. Though the exams are no walk in the park, she does offer extra credit opportunities. A&P is a difficult course regardless who you decide to take. Put in the work and you will not regret choosing her! Thank you Dr. Korpal!

Professor Korpal is an amazing teacher and definitely worth taking. Her class is not easy, but she makes every effort to help you succeed. She understands that you have a life outside of the classroom and if there is a personal problem, talk to her, she is willing to work with you. She cares about you understanding what you learn, not just grading.

This is by far the hardest class I have ever taken. The class average on exams was around 50 %. She does offer lots of extra credit which helps. Participate in class and show up to live lecture, she makes note of the regulars and those who truly put in effort. This class is tough regardless who your professor is but she is truly your cheerleader!

I had Rowena for A&P 1 and 2 and actually failed ap2 and so I had her for 3 quarters. Im in nursing school now but I never wouldve survived nursing school if it wasnt for how challenging she made her classes. It was hard but set me up for success and ahead of other classmates in my nursing program. Also i love her so much she is my fav prof ever

A&P is heavy on information, so you really have to put in the work and understand the lessons. There's a lot students complaints about her exams so my advice is to take the critical thinking course before taking this class. Her exams will test your critical thinking abilities and understanding of the course material. She sets you up for success.

I loved taking this class! Mind you no matter who you take the coursework will be very very difficult. However, if you really study and try to do well Dr. Korpal will see that and will reward you. She gives a TON of extra credit and is always willing to help in any way she can. Definitely would recommend her for this class!

She is very funny, helpful, and gives LOTS of extra credit. She makes it clear that this class is hard, but it's worth it. She is very clear in her explanations, and how she grades. The only thing is that sometimes, what is on the test, isn't what we went over in class.

Good lecturer, funny, and clearly wants everyone to succeed. Exams are tough, but there's a *lot* of extra credit offered, so it's totally possible to get a good grade, just be prepared to study more than you might be used to. If you're planning a medical career, I think the way Korpal teaches A&P will be helpful as a foundation.

easiest teacher you can get when it comes to a&p. gives you sooo much extra credit. basically half of her tests are extra credit and there are multiple people in my class with over 100% but only assignments are test lectures & lab tests. at first may seem daunting but allows u to focus on the concepts instead of a next assignment due. sweet lady

She was an amazing professor, when she wasn't confident in us, she added even more extra credit than she already had. I passed the class with over 100%, only thing I didn't like was the take home tests during AP2.

Rowena is great! No matter the professor, A&P is hard but Rowena makes it bearable! LOTS of extra credit, no assignments only tests, and basically half of the tests are extra credit. Attendance is mandatory if you want to pass.

Dr. Korpal is a wonderful and committed teacher. I really enjoyed attending her lectures and her class in general. Your grade is based nearly entirely on test scores, so there is a ton of studying that you need to do (tests are generally closed-book). She gives a ton of extra credit on tests and she gives extra credit for going to study groups too.

Amazing professor. gives plenty of extra credit for such a hard course. She will help you along the way until the very end of the course. have to really disipline yourself to study the material. there is a test each week. one week is lecture (70% of grade) which is out of 80 pts, next week is lab (30%) and out of 100pts.

Love Rowena. Expect to work hard but she helps with plenty of extra credit opportunities. Amazing person who loves medicine.

It was great to take Anatomy and Physiology (A&P) with Prof. KP. Yes, Prof. KP's class can be very tough, and A&P is a very difficult subject to study, but she will do everything she can to help you. For this class, you NEED to study a lot, and you will do great. People who wrote bad things about her class because they didn't study and failed.

I took her class at Pierce College, and let me tell you she's amazing! The course itself is difficult and will require you to put an effort to study the course materials, but she offers so many resources for students to utilize. She also offers a TON of extra credit which helped bumped up my grades. If u want to survive in nursing school, take her!

My favorite teacher that I've had at Pierce. Re-took BIO241 with her and it was the best decision that I made. A&P is difficult already and you MUST do your part by studying & attending class which she makes clear on the very first day. She does a great job at teaching the material in a way that is understandable. Love her!

a good professor. if you put in work- you get a high grade. cares about students so much, I've never seen so much extra credit in one test. yes, graded by tests only but that's a benefit, because all you need to do is study. always lets you know what kind of questions are gonna be on the test. cons: can be rude and has favorite students )
