Roxana is a really sweet woman! She truly cares about how her students perform and if they understand the material from class. Business Calculus was not the easiest class but she helped make the workload manageable and her lectures were great in helping to understand the material.
Roxana was the best!! I didn't even take calc in high school and I was able to get an A+ in her class. There's 3 midterms and a cumulative final with weekly quizzes in recitation and weekly homework. The quizzes were really helpful and kept me on track with content. If you pay attention in lecture her exams are straight forward. Highly recommend!!!
No. 1!
10/10, pay attention in recitation and you'll, probably, be fine.
I had this professor for my second time taking Calc 2-my first time I didn't pass the final. She is incredibly good at explaining concepts that I had a hard time grasping the first time I took Calc 2. Her tests are difficult, but they are good preparation for the final's level of difficulty. Take this professor for Calc 2.
Roxana is an amazing professor for Calc 1. She cares about getting all her students to succeed and gives you the resources to do so. Tests are hard so make sure you study and attend lecture. She is so much better than most of the other Calc professors so take her!
I will start off by saying that I've taken AP Calc AB before hand but I got a 3 so I had to retake the class. She's an amazing professor and she's really kind and respectful. The class isn't the easiest, but she certainly makes the class bearable. Compared to the other profs, she's definitely your best option. Highly recommend her!
Great educator. Roxana is very approachable and spends class periods doing worked examples. Recitation quizzes and midterms match what we learn in class, and have prepared me well for the final. You can tell she cares about her students. Given how hard Calc II is at Pitt, she's a FANTASTIC teacher to learn and re-learn calc concepts under.
Calc 2 at Pitt is notoriously difficult but Roxana does a good job; lots of examples during lectures are very valuable. Also, she prepares you well for the departmental final, which came easier than expected. Very friendly and overall a very good experience.
I love Roxana. I dont understand calc at all, and she explained the calc 2 material so well I was able to follow and understand. In my opinion shes a little scary at first, but shes such a sweet person. ABSOLUTELY TAKE HER IF YOU CAN. I wish I took her for Calc 1 & 2. I miss her in-person lectures. Online class sucks.
The in-person lectures were amazing and she always gave amazing examples on the problem. YOU MUST DO PRACTICE PROBLEMS IN THE TEXTBOOK TO REALLY GRASP THE CONCEPTS. The LonCapa homeworks were also extremely doable. Online was a bit of a mess since she just gave us Videos to watch, but she was still available a lot via Zoom. The midterms are hard.
Calc 1 is a hard class at Pitt, but Popescu is pretty awesome. She explains everything pretty thoroughly and the exams are pretty fair. Gives minor extra credit. The final is departmental, and if you study like hell it's not bad at all - Popescu prepares you well. LON-CAPA is kinda annoying but good practice. Will give back points if you are right.
Roxana is such a caring woman who really wants every student to succeed. This is my second time taking calc since I failed from a different teacher last semester and Roxana's lectures were very informative and helpful in learning such hard information. Even the switch to online she is extremely available to students. Offered my class extra credit.
Ive heard horror stories about Calculus courses at Pitt, but Roxana was an amazing professor who cares for her students and explains things so clearly. Her lectures are very easy to follow and are filled with practice problems that she will solve slowly and explain each step for her students. In the switch to online she was very understanding. TAKE
Professor Popescu is a great professor, caring, and presented the dense material effectively. She did a lot of practice problems during lecture, and for online instruction, she continued to have office hours and lectures via zoom. Her exams were challenging but prepared you well for the departmental final. Take her class if you can!
She's probably the best professor to have for Calculus. I found her great for Calculus 2, she did a ton of practice problems that make the homework easier to understand and her grading policies for exams are a big help. Her test prep isn't the best so you will have to work slightly harder there.
I had to retake calc 1 and I made sure to have Roxanna again. I've always struggled with math but Roxanna never made me feel less than if I asked a question. Her office hours are helpful and she really wants you to succeed. I definitely recommend her class!
Class is based on two exams, hw, and quizzes. All classes are lecture based, but Roxanna is engaging and answers questions outside of class. Exams are just like practice prblms. She regularly posts practice problems and final exam reviews. Great choice for someone that already took Calc, solid choice for someone just learning it for the first time
I did worse in calc 1 so i was a bit scared going into calc 2. However, Roxana made it SO easy to understand calc 2 and even if you don't understand the concepts she makes her steps very clear that they can be easily memorized applied to similar problems. Also gave extra credit after every midterm
Really nice lady and one of the better choices for calc 2. Solid lecturer but doesn't give the best test prep, so make sure you spend a lot of time doing textbook problems to prepare for her exams. The departmental final was also MUCH harder than she led us to believe it would be. P.S. Google her -- she was a national math champion in Romania!
AVOID AT ALL COSTS !!! Please save yourself and take any other professor. Does not convey material well and much more is expected on tests than she teaches. She also did not show up to her office hours which made completing her multiple weekly homework assignments difficult. She gives weekly quizzes where the material is taught one day before.
I love Dr Popescu's class. She is incredibly good at explaining the material and very easy to follow. I was afraid at first before exams, but they are just like practice prblms and she also did a lot of good practice problems at the review sessions. TAKE her class if you can!
Literally LOVE professor Popescu with my whole heart! Business calc is not an easy class but with a professor like her you will do well. Questions explained in lecture are very similar to the tests. Stay on top of the homework and lectures and you will succeed. She does give weekly quizzes in recitation but they help you stay on track. TAKE HER!!
Calc 2 is gonna be hard no matter who you take it with, but Roxana is a good prof and is very approachable. If you go to lecture, do the homework problems, and ask questions on what you don't understand, you'll do well in this class. If you don't do all of those things, you'll probably fail it. Roxana is a fine choice for such a difficult class
don't take this class if you have no prior experience to calc. she literally doesn't teach any of the concepts she just talks and says this is the way you should do it. also goes 2x speed and you barely understand anything she's talking about. every time I go to this class a part of me dies
Professor Popescu was my favorite professor this semester. She was very straightforward with the lectures and explained everything well. The homework is easy because you have unlimited attempts to get 100. Tests were slightly difficult but she prepares you well.
Honestly, it's the first month so it may be too early to provide a description, but Roxana teaches in a fast-paced way which I do not like. For individuals who are not great at math like myself, it can be hard to keep up and understand the concepts, she teaches as if everyone in the class understands Calc instead of breaking down things.
I couldn't recommend Dr. Roxana enough. I had to retake calc 1 because the prof I had last semester was absolutely horrible, and I failed the class. Right now I have an A in the class, and it's due to Dr. Roxana's amazing explanations of material and her kindness. She actually cares about her students and wants them to succeed. 10/10 take her class
Roxanna is an amazing woman and great professor. Calc is a hard class but her lectures explain concepts very well. Her midterms are tough but mimic the departmental final very well which is useful. Make sure to attend class though, otherwise you will fall behind quickly. She truly cares about her students and you can tell that she enjoys teaching.
Calculus can be hard regardless of the professor, but she is very clear in explaining concepts and gives many examples to study from. Exams are graded very fair and the questions almost always use techniques we were explicitly shown (i.e. no "trick" questions). Weekly recitation quizzes are generally fine, and you drop 3 of them.
Professor Popescu is very sweet, but sometimes moves at a fast pace. I never went to class and just watched the recorded lectures later because I often needed to pause it and go back to understand. Tests aren't too difficult if you study the material and do well on quizzes.
If you struggle with math--do not take this professor. She is very kind and caring, but her explanations are vague and in her lectures she mostly goes over practice problems and doesn't explain the concepts very well. The quizzes and HW alone did not prepare me for the exams. During the (online) exams she talked constantly and was very distracting.
Teaches very clearly and will review if confused & helps w/hw during class by going over a problem sometimes. take notes during lecture, do the practice problems she gives, any extra credit, & really put effort into studying, & you can pass. Recitation is helpful, mostly before the weekly quizzes. 2 midterms, & a final that are very time sensitive
I like Professor Popescu. Her lectures are very well structured and she does examples of every homework question we are assigned. If you pay attention and study you should do fine. Quizzes every week are somewhat annoying but help you stay on track for bigger tests. We are not allowed to use calculators on any exams.
Roxana is super sweet and a good professor. She does lots of examples with different variations during lectures to prepare us for weekly quizzes and the exams. The exams are pretty easy, and they only were a few problems. It is pretty fast paced, which is understandable, but if you pay attention and ask questions it comes easy.
Roxana is a very good teacher. She goes through every problem and explains exactly what she is doing. She moves fast but that's because she has to, and the quizzes aren't too bad if you pay attention and do practice. She's great if you go to office hours, as she'll go through any problem you have and be very understanding. Super nice and chill.
I found Roxana to explain concepts in a good manner. She goes over problems in a class similar to the ones in homework making it easier to complete. I also enjoy the fact that she doesn't teach at an extremely fast pace and thoroughly goes over concepts. Be prepared for weekly quizzes that cover recent material.
Roxanna is a really great professor is always happy to help. I'd recommend finding a PDF of the textbook online rather than buying the interactive version. The class is extremely fast-paced and comparative to other professors, she is known to grade harshly. However, she is also known for being able to explain concepts better than other professors.
Professor Popescu was my favorite professor this semester. The class was definitely difficult but she really helped us through and you can tell she cares. Pay attention, take notes, and do the homework. You will be fine.
I had her for calc 2 and think she is a solid choice. Her midterms are difficult but doable and are good at preparing you for the departmental final. She gave 5 points of extra credit on each midterm but did not drop any quizzes this semester. Each midterm was worth 25%. I thought her class was fair and definitely better than some other options.
This class is pretty easy if you took Calculus in high school. If you didn't take calculus in high school going to lectures, office hours and recitation is really important because it's the only way to get enough practice on certain topics. If you study you'll get a good grade. The final exam is department wide and a lot harder than the midterms.
Most of class is based on examples that will be in your homework and quizzes. She also has very flexible office hours and will provide extra examples during that time as well. Your grade consists of three midterms, homework, quizzes, the final exam, but she grades fairly. If you just attempt a problem she'll give you some credit. Take her!!!
Dr. Popescu is a really great professor!! The class is hard, especially if you aren't the best at math like myself. However, if you put in the work and reach out for help (which Popescu always provides) then you will be fine. Weekly quizzes can be tough sometimes, sane for homework, but midterms were never too bad. The final however was very hard.
Definitely need to learn through the textbook if you take her. She teaches more as if math is to be memorized rather than understood, but she understands that calc is hard and does enough examples so that homework and quizzes are easy. Exams were consistent with recitation quizzes and easier than homework problems.
She wants all of her students to do well. She could've explained concepts a little better, but she did a ton of practice problems, so nothing on the quizzes or exams came up as surprise since we did it in class. Final was very difficult, but so is calc 2 in general. This professor is a very good choice.
In my opinion the best option for BUS Calc. The exams are 100 points each but she gives a reasonable amount of homework to make up for it. Clutch extra credit at the end of the semester.
Dr. Popescu one of, if not the best professor at The University of Pittsburgh. She is extremely understanding and genuinely wants her students to pass and be well prepared for the future. She doesn't make assignments any easier than other professors but you will be beyond prepared for the exams if you attend her lectures and pay attention.
I had professor Popescu fall of 2020 and I cannot say how thankful I was to have her as one of my first college professors. She was very clear about her expectations, was kind, and cared about her students. If you are having any sort of problem, go to her office hours and you will for sure do amazing! Her homework also did not take me too long.
Roxana is a QUEEN. I love her lectures and she makes calculus fun. Unlike most professors at Pitt she is clear and answers questions in a way that makes me understand the material. Highly recommend!
I love Roxana. She understands that calculus is a hard topic for many people and does a great job at dumbing it down for people to understand. I like how she writes the concepts that we are learning in a box on the board and refers to it as she does problems. She also gives you a lot of resources for practice. I recommend her to anyone.
Dr. Popescu is a sweet and caring teacher. Her lectures give many RELEVANT examples to what you will find on tests, and she lays out each step to problems clearly. She is accessible outside of class for office hours and will help you succeed if you show that you are willing to try. Could not recommend her more.
As someone who set a goal to improve in math this year -- Dr. Popescu was a blessing for me. My math-related anxiety going into this class was subsided by her clear teaching and how accessible she is to talk to. Workload and exams are still what you would expect for this class. She sets a great base for you to apply in your own practice problems.
Roxana is a kind person. Her lectures are also surprisingly easy to follow, considering she teaches calculus. While the course is tough, she provides relevant examples, good resources to practice with, plenty of extra credit, and some heartfelt advice. She clearly wants her students to succeed. Professors like her make learning more enjoyable.
Queen of Pitt math! Absolutely amazing! Very Detailed explanations and easy midterms. The final is departmental which is really unnecessarily HARD and LONG, but it has nothing to do with this professor. Like she once said in class, she is trying to help you as much as possible until the final. Please treasure her if you are taking her classes.
Great choice
Popescu is THE BEST and a QUEEN. Her lectures give a lot of great examples which are like identical to what are on your test and all of the homework is very easy.
Roxana is an amazing calc prof because she goes over theories and proofs, but backs them with easy examples. She provides practice worksheets for every quiz, and gives so many resources for her students to succeed. 100% the best math prof at Pitt.
I've never felt more prepared for calc than this class. She covered all the material and gave fantastic examples. The quizzes and exams were relevant and prepared you for the class, you knew what to study for the final because of class. Go to class to make it easier it on yourself. She gave extra credit to raise exam averages. So nice, made it fun
I took Popescu for Calculus 1, and I wish I could've taken her for Calculus 2. Popescu is engaging and is a very fair grader. The only slight downside is that there isn't much homework, and I honestly would've wanted more.
She is a very good teacher and willing to curve if the class average is below a 75 (it always was) the departmental final is tough which is out of her control but overall she is a sweet, chill and kind teacher. I wouldn't recommend anyone else for Calc 2. Only con we kinda rushed through material near the end but it wasn't too big of a deal.
Take Professor Popescu... If I could some it up in three words that's what it would be. Calculus is not an easy topic but she explains very well. I currently have a different professor for Calc 2 now and realize how good she was. She is attentive and wants her class to succeed. MUST TAKE if you are looking for a calc teacher at Pitt.
TAKE. HER. She makes difficult calculus concept easy to understand and explains EVERYTHING. She is also abundantly clear about what we are expected to know for each weekly quiz, midterm, etc. and provides practice problems in canvas for everything with solutions. Couldn't recommend her more.
She wants everyone to succeed and provides you with everything you need to do so. Her lectures are amazing and clear. Go to them. She is an asset to the math department. Take her class.
Popescu does an amazing job at explaining the concepts. She takes the time to go through examples that will be on the tests and homework. She have extra credit for one of the exams as well. You can tell that she wants everyone to do well. Take her class if you can!
She is incredible. Best math teacher I have ever had in my life. Offers extra credit after midterm exams and explains concepts so clearly. If you have the option, I would take her class!
Although many people like Popescu, I did not. I could not understand her during lectures sometimes and she was very condescending when I reached out for help. I will say she prepares you very well for the final but the final still dropped my grade a lot regardless.
She was one of the best math teachers/professors I have had. Explains the material very well, and provides examples to back of what she is teaching. There is weekly homework, but it helps to practice the material. The material is difficult;I would recommend attending all classes, although attendance is not mandatory.
Amazing professor! I did not even take calc in hs and ended with an A. She made all the concepts so easy to understand and did examples in class that were similar to the problems on the exams. Homework was not super time-consuming and was good practice! She gave tons of partial credit on exams and always offered EC. Do the practice problems!
Take her. Clear in class problems that are similar to quizzes/exams, almost identical to homework. Midterm 1 25%. Midterm 2 25%. Quizzes 10%. Homework 10%. Final 30%. We got 7 points of extra credit on each midterm- AMAZING for grade boost. Def ask her but OPT OUT OF THE TEXTBOOK, "found" a PDF but never used it. Hard final but got an A on it.
definitely one of my favorite professors. her calc 1 class is not the easiest but she does teach all of the material needed to do well on the exams. the loncapa homework has eight tries for each question and she also gives extra credit after both exams
Calc is an extremely hard class, and the final is rough. Thankfully, Roxana is an incredible teacher and always available to help you if you are struggling. She grades fairly and puts you in a position to succeed.
Roxana is a very sweet and caring professor who wants to see you preform well. She gives extra credit on tests and frequently does online zoom meetings for homework assistance. Pay attention in class and ask questions. 2 midterm exams, 1 final exam, and a quiz every week.
TAKE POPESCU! She is an awesome person and teaches Calculus in a way that makes it all make sense. All her examples in class are identical to what is given for homework. She also holds office hours on Zoom before exams. If you're looking to build a strong foundation in Calculus, she will help you get there. Nothing but love for this woman.
She is a good teacher in class, but many of her tests are not similar to the content that is covered in class. The midterm questions felt like the difficulty was so much more than what we actually did. One good thing is that there is extra credit but it's only a few points.
I really liked her and her teaching methods. I would say she teaches the course like you took calc in high school which I have not so a little bit harder than should be. I also don't like that she doesn't post lecture notes or practice exams, but gives partial and extra credit on exams.
If you go to lecture you will understand the topics, and if you don't office hours are very helpful. She is very sweet and tries to get to know you if you put effort in. there is a quiz basically every week, but they are not difficult. Overall, if you are a visual learner and learn math better with various examples, Roxana is a great choice.
I love her. She wants to see her students succeed. She'll do as much as she can to help you perform well and pass her class. I wish I could take her for calc 2 but unfortunately, she is not teaching it spring semester. The class was hard for me since I never took calc in high school but she made calc so much easier to understand. take Roxana
If you need to take Calc 1 take Roxana over anyone else. Her lectures are well structured and she goes over everything. As long as you pay attention in class its really easy to ace her quizzes and tests. When I compared my quizzes to my friend's, hers were much easier.
I really enjoyed her class and felt like I learned a lot about calculus. Even though attendance isn't mandatory, I would not recommend skipping her lectures. All examples made sense in class, however they did not match the level of difficulty of the exams. So I would recommend doing extra practice problems from the book as well.
Roxana was a great professor and an even better person. She truly cared for everyone in the class and wanted everyone to leave lecture learning something new. Lectures weren't mandatory but she wrote all her examples on a whiteboard and didn't record. Some examples were exactly like the exams but some were harder than others. Would 100% take her!!
I came into this class with limited math knowledge, only taking pre-calc in hs and doing bad in that. Surprisingly, almost everything Roxana taught I actually understood. LONCAPA homework every week, as well as a quiz every week except midterm and finals week. I'd recommend going to class as she goes over hw problems and prepares you for quizzes.
Never took calculus in high school and was still able to keep up. Roxana is very sweet, welcomes questions, and goes at a reasonable pace in lectures. She does a lot of practice problems, most of which are nearly identical to the homework. She offers extra credit after both midterms and provides lots of partial credit on exams.
What a gem. Roxana makes night classes tolerable and really has a passion for teaching math. Homework prepares you for exams which are difficult but curved with extra credit. Final was much easier than departmental final and got to replace lowest midterm. Get familiar with the conceptual part of calc and review algebra b4 taking the class.
You can definitely pass the class with her but she was just okay. Lectures were mostly examples with little explanation of how the rules worked and the exams were harder and unreflective of the practice materials she posts. There are quizzes nearly every week and lots of hw but she does go over hw problems in class before it's due which is good.
Loved this class. One of the easiest math teachers I've had. She is really nice and gives examples identical to the homework problems. Gives many practice problems that make her tests manageable. Gives good amount of extra credit for the tests. Would definitely recommend!
She knows the material very well, and is great at explaining each topic. Wastes no time- she will walk into the room and immediately get her markers out to begin the lecture. Do not skip class. She doesn't have slides to post since she just writes on the board for lectures. Weekly lon-capa homework. Very lenient grader, and curves her exams.
As someone who almost failed high school trigonometry, Roxana make's it easy to grasp any subject as long as you show up to lecture and pay attention. My current grade is a B, so anythings possible if you just try. I'd definitely recommend her if you're scared of Calculus or haven't used it before.
She was very nice but a little hard to follow during the lecture. She is really caring and will help you outside of class. Very fair grader and is always giving extra credit opportunities.
For 0413. Didn't seem to want to teach the class. Arrived late and simply wrote notes directly from the textbook onto the whiteboard every lecture; very dry. That being said, she is nice, homework is easy, and exams are graded generously. We were given the opportunity to earn 10 (essentially free) possible bonus points after the first exam.
I really liked Prof Popescu as a professor. The questions on the exams were a little harder than what she taught us but with good practice and preparation, I think it is quite manageable.
This professor is writes all the notes down on the board super fast and doesn't explain anything. If you come into the class lacking a lot of experience you will need to do a ton of extra work trying to catch up. Her exams are much harder than the homework and she is firm with her ways.
Calculus is a hard subject, and you want a fair teacher? Take Roxanna. Tons of excellent review material, extensions on HW and exams are very reasonable and still get curved. If you wanna pass Calculus 2, take Roxanna. Really cares about her students and wants them to succeed. Great professor.
Popescu was like a warm aunt that gives you money on the holidays. She seems to genuinely care about her students doing well and will go out of her way to prove this. She has extra review sessions for finals, good homework, and accessible office hours. She was wonderful, especially for calc 2 as she walks through everything step by step.
An absolute gem of a teacher. Explained everything thoroughly, asked questions during lecture which forced students to be engaged during lecture, and would spend class time as review sessions for each exam. Very accessible office hours. Wish she was teaching calc 3 next semester :(
Attendance not mandatory but need to go to lectures- writes on whiteboard and does not post any form of notes. Lectures are easy to follow, just need to know basic algebra. 3 exams and a final. Weekly homework, unlimited attempts for full credit.
It was hard to stay focused on her lectures as she often just copied down questions from her tablet without explaining them, so you will have to study a lot and sometimes self-teach. However she offers a ton of extra credit and is very generous with partial credit on the mid-terms. Probably would've gotten a C+ if it weren't for them.
I LOVE ROXANA her lectures may be a little dry but they are straight to the point and very informative. She goes over so many problems, so even though participation isn't required the lectures are very helpful. She is super sweet and helpful, plus gave us 7 points worth of extra credit after each exam. If you want a good grade and to learn take her
Lectures were a bit dry but were to the point. Quizzes in recitation every other week. Gave bonus assignment up to 7 points for all tests. If I didn't take calc in high school I might have found it to be more challenging, but she gives a lot of practice tests and problems.
For the love of God, take Roxana over Sheng Xiong, you will learn more and get a better grade. She is the GOAT.
TAKE HER!!!! I suck at math and it was not the easiest, but she is the best MATH TEACHER at pitt by far. 7 bonus points are given on every exam, quizzes in each recitation, and homework every week. Make sure you go to lectures and you will be fine.
Professor Popescu makes Calculus manageable, even for those who struggled with math before. Her lectures focus on examples and she's generous with partial credit. Unstuck AI was a great study tool alongside the practice problems.
The only reason I am giving her a 2 is because she is lenient when grading exams, however everything else was awful. She is not a good lecturer and made me feel bad about attending her office hours and asking questions.
She is so sweet and caring. She grades fairly and gives opportunities for extra credit on every test. It's a hard class and you may have to do some teaching yourself out of class (sometimes the lectures don't make sense) but it's manageable and she is by far the best professor to take. I loved her!
Took this class as a freshman who just came out of AP Calc AB, and it was rough. The content of Calc2 has always been enjoyable, but man, is it hard. Roxana is a great professor, and her lectures were great, but the exams were usually much, much harder than her study guides. In addition, she doesn't really give any useful review for the dep. final
After both exams, she gave us a quiz where you could get 7 extra credit points. This is the most extra credit from all the Calc2 professors, as far as I know. Her lectures are amazing. She doesn't bore you with proofs (she does go over them when introducing topics), but actually shows you how to solve the problems. Take her if you can!
coming from just having taken pre-calc, TOTALLY RECOMMEND this professor! she is so sweet and truly wants her students to succeed. she givens a decent amount of extra credit (up to 7 points back per tests) and I found her lectures very helpful, such as practice problems that were given. tests are certainly on the harder side, but there is a curve.
Roxana is an amazing professor. Unlike many math professors who cherry-pick simpler problems to go over in lecture, she consistently works through questions similar to those on the homework and midterms, making her lectures very helpful. The midterms are relatively easy, and she gives a fair amount of extra credit.
Take her if you can, best chance of passing. Her midterms are very close to the review so do them!! Gives extra credit after every midterm, either an inclass quiz or a take home homework, depends but she'll let you know. Attendance is not mandatory but the recitation is. She's usually 5 min late but i dont mind
SHE IS WONDERFUL! Probably one of the best professors I've had at Pitt when it comes to teaching. She knows how to explain difficult concepts and break them down. I loved her, she's very helpful and understanding. She usually offers extra credit and understands that calculus is hard so she will do what she can to make people pass.
Popescu's lectures were clear and organized, and she gave generous extra credit. She genuinely seemed to want to help us out as much as possible, and was very willing to work one on one with students during office hours. Calc 2 is terrible, but she makes it possible to do at least.
I would not have done well in this class if it weren't for Roxana, her lectures are great, make sure to go. 2 midterms with extra credit after each, weekly quizzes, homework and departmental final make up your grade. Actually do the homeworks and go to lecture and you'll be set. Roxana was amazing, definitely take her if you have the choice to!
Dr. Popescu is a caring professor who wants you to do well in the class, and will give the resources and any help needed in order to make that happen. Graded by 2 midterms and a final, with LONCAPA and quizzes. Her tests are a little difficult, but she offers extra credit to compensate. Just make sure to be on top of things, and you'll be okay.
Dr. Popescu is amazing! Her lectures are very to the point--brief explanation/background for a topic with examples for the rest of class. Her exams are very fair and prepared us well for the final. There are extra credit opportunities after both midterms. Take Roxana if possible!!!!
The classroom boardwork is well-structured and easy to follow. Office hours are always patient and helpful. Exams are graded on a curve, so even though the course is challenging, it's quite forgiving. Highly recommended for everyone!
She's a nice professor but her exams are NOT reflective of what we do in class. Midterms are horrible and we are not properly prepared for them. If you haven't taken calc before you will be very lost. She doesn't give good partial credit as well and is a very harsh grader. She's a nice person and kind of funny though! also gives extra credit
absolutely horrific. lectures are a waste of time because she explains things very poorly and doesn't answer questions. exam questions are nothing like class problems or worksheet problems. quizzes are terrible.
DO NOT TAKE HER. she does not explain anything well and everything you learn in class is useless because every test will be hard that what she teaches. also the extra credit barely does anything so don't listen to the other reviews. she is a nice lady but a bad teacher.
Roxana was a great professor and would certainly recommend for Calc 1. The one complaint is the difficulty of the Midterms (specifically Midterm 2) was harder than most problems done in class/given as examples, but with preparation, it is definitely manageable. Also a very kind person, truly cares about you/your grade and hosts review sessions.
Dr. Popescu wants to see students succeed, she gives multiple more than fair extra credit opportunities for both midterm exams and host multiple review sessions. She is always open for post class questions and always seems happy to help. Her grading isn't super harsh either although exams make up the bulk of your grade. Extremely kind + cool accent
She's honestly a great professor. She doesn't give a lot of examples in class but uses long cappa for homework (lots of example problems). She prepares you well for the midterm as long as you put in the work. Calc is hard regardless and i think she did a good job at covering all the content.
Her lectures are very easy to understand and uses examples that are on her tests and quizzes. The only problem is that we were always behind the course schedule which led to her rushing through material. Overall she is a great professor.
She's the goat. Lectures are mostly definitions then examples, and are taught very clearly. She doesn't waste time on fluff, and is very efficient. Preps you well for midterms and final; you never see anything she didn't cover. Midterms are reasonable! Super cool and considerate lady, I was lucky to take her.
Took this class for my major, and I will say if you haven't taken calc before or AP calc it is very difficult to grasp. I clearly did horrible, and partially my fault for taking too many classes in one semester but also her class was VERY test heavy and tests were unlike her problems or "review" exams from years ago. She not good at emails.
Attendance is not mandatory but going to class is helpful. She has office hours you can go to and holds zoom review sessions before midterms and finals. There are weekly quizzes that aren't too hard if you know the material and the 2 midterms and final are challenging but she gives partial credit. She has extra credit for both of the midterms.
Professor Popescu is a super caring person. I enrolled late in the course and she sent me lecture notes from the previous week. She had the flu right before our first midterm and she still taught both our review class period and the optional weekend review session. Hard class, but she's a great person. Just review & practice a lot & you'll be fine
