This is hands down one of the easiest Accounting classes I ever took. The material of the class was just easy and Dr. Spindle makes it much easier because she breaks everything down for you and she offers a lot of extra credit. No reason not to pass her
i just didnt find the course too clear own how she explains somethings- she will try to help you though and i have had A's in other accounting classes
Spindle breaks down how to do a lot of the problems very well, some opportunities to get some extra credit.
If you are not good with accounting, she is the teacher to take. Lots of extra credit and her teaching style is excellent. Easy class for an A or B.
Great teacher. I do not like Accounting at all, but she made it an enjoyable experience. Lots of extra credit and she definitely WANTS to help you. She'll take calls at her house at anytime. Pure and simple, a very good teacher.
I hated accounting before I took her. I still don't like it but she made it liveable. If you aren't an acct major and want an easy teacher take her!
Great professor who is always willing to help out her students, not trick them. Tests are easy if you study her quizzes. Overall, one of the best professors at VCU!
Awesome professor who gives you every opportunity to succeed. Quizzes are frequent, but most of the time help your overall grade. Tests are easy so long as you spend some time with it. Highly Recommended if you need this class.
good teacher
awsome teacher. excellent. i would recommend everyone to take her class. She is very funny too.
Great professor. Makes every effort to create an environment for students to succeed, with and without her direct help.
Great teacher, approachable, fair, lets you do test corrections for every test which gives you the potential to move up a letter grade for each test, breaks everything down, lots of group work, gives a lot of individual and group quizzes to get you ready for the tests, lots of extra credit, makes accounting fun, and uses power points. There is no
Very good teacher. Gives lot of extra credit. She tries to help but often confuses. She is not organised .But Easy A class. She is VEry Helpful. If you have any question you can call her anytime to her home phon even midnite she wont have any problem with that. She is Gr8
She is excellent.

Great teacher! The material isn't that difficult and she presents the material in easily comprehended way. My only complaint is that our class used clickers but there were 2-point extra credits clickers every class so it was okay. I would definitely take again!
Made accounting easy. Lots of easy group work, easy daily quizes, test corrections, and a curve make this class easy to get a good grade in. Read over the power points before tests and keep up with the material and you will do fine.
She is the greatest teacher ever!!! Don't settle for any other professors!!!
I LOVE SPINDLE, SHE IS THE BEST PROFESSOR AT VCU..SHE IS ALWAYS THERE WHEN U NEED HER. SHE WILL TELL U TO CALL HER AT HOM YES AT HER HOM IF U HAVE TROUBLE WITH ANYTHING.I HAD HER FOR ACCT 203 DURING SUMMER AND SHE WAS GREAT THE WHOLE 4 WEEKS..SHE IS JUST GREAT.. U WILL LOVE HER I GUARANTEE U SHE WILL MAKE ACCOUNTING EXTREMELY EASY...
Great class. Excellent professor. Very helpful if you ask for help. Powerpoints discussed key points. Book was supplemental. Group quizzes really help.
Pretty good class. Lots of group work and simple quizzes. Extra credit opportunities abound. No reason you shouldn't get a good grade in this class. You'll learn a pretty good bit in the process. I don't think I opened the book a single time the entire semester.
Spindle is the best accounting teacher at VCU. This is an easy class, even for people like me who have no interest in accounting. A good bulk of you grade are daily clicker questions you take with groups (free points). She allows test corrections and provides a whole lot of extra credit points. I highly recommend taking her class.
Spindle is one of the best teachers at VCU & you should def. try to take this class. There are a lot of bonus points added to your final grade from daily group quizzes(which are easy) & they add A LOT of points to your grade if you are struggling. -If you put in the effort you should get a B in the class. Also, she is very helpful outside of class!
Really good professor. Answer keys were incorrect at times. But she really cares about her students, even includes her home telephone number so you can call her if you have any questions. I would highly recommend signing up for her class.
BEST TEACHER at VCU.knows her stuff.ver student friendly.lots of extra credit.cant make anything less than a B.
best accounting teacher at VCU. take her.
TAKE HER!!!!! BEST PROFESSOR AT VCU! This was my 2nd time taking this class (other professor before obviously) and she made it so interesting and easy to understand. She offers so much extra credit its almost impossible to do poorly. Very motivating and loves her students!
I absolutely love her!! Very helpful lots of extra credit there is no way you can fail unless you don't put the time and effort. She doesn't take attendance but you will lose cps points if you don't. Best Acct teacher ever, take her no matter what time she teaches very worth it:)
Dr Spindle is great!! She's so easy, yet you still learn the material! If you have the chance to take it, DO IT!! There is no way to make less than a B. I almost failed Olds twice, yet got an A with Spindle in part 2! Just make sure you go to class and keep up. She makes it fun though, so there's no problem.
This class should be a 5 credit class. It requires A LOT of work. Her tests are take home but it takes 20 hours to do one. Its a lot of searching and thinking on your part but you learn the material. She is VERY helpful. There is always something due each class so be ready to learn and keep up!
There is always something due. It's very hard to follow her in class, so you end up teaching yourself quite a bit. Take home tests are challenging, so leave your weekend open. She gives real world experience-- tax letters, returns, research. Overall, good class.
Overall, good professor as far as her teaching methods are concerned. However, she makes an absurdly large number of errors in the homework she assigns. And this includes the take-home tests. Constantly changes through e-mail the information you need to complete assignments. Does it so often and right before things due I can't recommend this class.
Don't even THINK about taking this class if Accounting is NOT your major. Yes, lots of work. Take home tests are challenging, but extra credit is abundant. If you go to class and do your work you will get an A, unless you are completely retarded. See her in office if you don't understand, she give you the answer. She is a sweetheart.
exceptional professor. one of my favorite accounting professors, the way she teaches is so smart. she makes you work in groups after lectures, and work on problems together, and she is always willing to help if you have a problem or question.she makes hard materials more fun and easy by making ppl work with others and learn from eachother.
This class is a huge amount of work. She gives a lot of assignments and has a lot of extra credit built in so you should have no problem getting at least a B, if not an A. Follow the line instructions for the tax forms & you will to well on the take home test & give yourself at least 20 hours to do them.
She is the best accounting professor at vcu. You will have in class quizzes so going to class is a must. Tests are a little tough but not unmanagable (test 2 is the toughest by far) this class is a lot of work so if possible it is a good idea to take it over the summer, i got a B, thank you mrs spindle, you helped me stay in the business school :)
Make sure you spare a lot of time for this class as it requires submission and quiz almost every day. All exams takes home, it takes around 8 hours to complete, but manageable. This is a good course so far. Just the way she explains is confusing, so most of the time you need to search for the answer yourself and then check back with her.
This class is hard b/c of all the work, it takes absolutely forever to do the tax returns and the take home tests. I thought it would be cake since they are take home, however they take at least 72 hours to get an A on them. You teach yourself everything, anything you can't figure she will take time explaining in her hour offices. Enjoy!
This class is fun but the thing is that tax return and take home test. Especially take home tests are hard. If you try to do it yourself, you would struggle.
A wonderful professor! For me tax is incredibly challenging. I have a very difficult time understanding but Spindle is very available and willing to help. She has very good office hours and will make appointments with you if needed. Just need to be sure to utilize ALL of the resources the course offers to do well.
Dr. Spindle's class is cray cray. There is always something due, and most often you will have a quiz with your assigned group. A lot of work but she gives out a lot of extra credit. Do every single assignment so that when you get to the final exam you don't have to struggle so hard. All exams are take home and take like 10 hours at least.
Just take it. Don't worry and just go to class and sit there, pay attention, you get an A or at least B later.
Accounting is pretty hard for people who''ve never been exposed to it but its even harder when your teacher doesn''t actually teach and requires you to learn everything from confusing PowerPoints she puts up on Blackboard. Instead of lectures we have quizzes on which there is always at least one huge confusing mistake that she has to fix in class.
Tax in general is tough. Good news is that Spindle divides her class into group work, so pray that you have a smart teammate to help you. Tax forms, writeups, quizzes, are every week. Thankfully, she is always available for office hours. take advantage of that. And IF* the class is failing (*guaranteed) she offers 20-50% extra credit. Good luck!
Probably one of the best accounting professors at VCU. She reminds students to ask questions every day. Always willing to help, but you have to show that you have tried some before coming to her, she won't just give you the A. Group problems and quizzes that are helpful for understanding and tests that aren't back breaking. Gives some EC too!
If you actually listen to the powerpoints and go to class (I did not) you will definitely get a B. Final is worth over 200 points. Grades by points system and no penalty, 700 pointsC, 800B, 900A. She gives about 80 total extra credit points and online homework quizzes you have unlimited tries (5-10pts each). Just try study for the final
As expected this 400 level class is very challenging. All reviews on this page are spot on; extra credit and office help given, and some errors on her hw. Assignments are due each class, and DON'T EXPECT the powerpoint lectures to be straight replicated on her weekly quizzes. Use the book, and her help. Challenging class but worth it in the end
She is nice, if you go to class and watch all of the lectures you will get an A (or atlas i did). This isn't an easy course, but the fact that her lectures are recorded you can rematch them until you understand.
She really likes group work. And she doesn't lecture in class, she expects students to watch her voice recorded powerpoint lectures before class and gives out group work during class hours. But she does offer help during her office hours, which is nice, and she gives a lot of room for error in the form of in-class extra credit.
You must attend class because she gives a practice problems one day and next class you have a quiz on it. If you study her powerpoints it's fairly easy, and if you ever get confused you can email her or go to her office hours and she'll help you. She provides enough extra credit that you could get a 50% on the final and get a B (happened to me)
Course material itself is pretty difficult but she will help in any way possible. She is very no-nonsense and will not let you make up anything you miss. You need 700 points to get to ACCT 204 and she gives tons of oppotunity. If you do not work hard, read, study, or come to class you won't make it but she is willing to do anything to help you pass
The amount of work given on one day is overwhelming. Tax forms , RQ papers are given but with various due dates. I dislike her presentation method, but I see how some students will benefit from her recorded lectures that can be viewed anytime. Doing the optional extra credit is essential to passing! She'll give some guidance during office hours.
Professor Spindle was the best. She is more than willing to assist you and gives you a variety of ways to reach her. She teaches a flipped class, which means you study the material before class and she clarifies in class. If you want to do well, I highly suggest you read the material before class otherwise YOU WILL GET LEFT BEHIND!!
you look at the lectures before class. the test are very hard. For me sitting through forty five minutes of powerpoints with her talking slow was hard. hard not to click to the next slide and hard to stay engaged. Also her blackboard is not well organized, and she uses blackboard a loy. Lots of group work, but groups are disorganized.
She's nice and there for help and gives a lot of assignments therefore ample opportunity for points I guess. The only problem I have is she kindof makes it a self taught course in the sense that every class is a handout/quiz and you're just expected to watch/listen to her powerpoints and get it like boom. But Olds is FAR worse. DONT TAKE OLDS.
Spindle is there for you. she will meet u in her office, always returns emails quickly and even gives out her personal number. I should've put more work in, i could've gotten an A. make sure you stay on top of this material, it is not supposed to be an easy course. Take spindle, i recommend. her tests aren't that hard if u study, go to CLC
Spindle rocks! The way her class is set up is that you teach yourself at home and come to class to go over the material. About 2 out of 3 classes a week are quizzes, and 1 out of 3 classes are just a review of the material. I skipped every single one of the material reviewing classes and got an A for the semester. Incorporates a LOT of extra credit
She's a great professor. I took her over the summer and if you have any questions at all, she's willing to work with you to get you the help you need. There's a lot of group work as well, so if your group is amazing you'll be good.
EX: I walk into an exam late, she said :"Take a deep breath, you will be fine, start now, and if you don't finish, we can work on it later." Also, she has group quiz before your individual quiz, so you get a hang of whats going on. I really think that if you fail this class, you are a complete idiot, and stop wasting money of college man.
Very good professor. Take notes off of the power point slides before class so you're prepared for the worksheet day. Study for the group and individual quizzes, they are similar to each other. Do not skip class, you will fail. Go to her office hours before tests.
PROFESSOR SPINDLE!! She is amazing. This is a class with A LOT of work. It's accounting though, and you need to have hands on experience to understand what's going on. The powerpoints are online and you read them and take a quiz before class (with many attempts). Tuesdays (usually) are group work. Thursdays (usually) are quizzes. 5 tests! TAKE HER!
She doesn't teach AT ALL. You will have to read her lecture slides online at home before you come to class. Good part is that we have group quizzes and individual quizzes that she'll help you on. On the exam you'll have no idea what's going on because she never really taught it to you and it doesn't look anything like the quizzes.
Lots of quizzes and Tests. Shes always available though and willing to meet. She doesn't take attendance but almost every class you have a quiz. Overall a good professor who's willing to help out.
Prof. Spindle is one of the best professors I've had at VCU (undergraduate and graduate level courses). You have to work for your grade, but the class is easy if you show up and do the work necessary outside of class. I'm awful at accounting, but her approach to teaching made it easy for me to learn.
Bad professor. Prepare to teach her the material, apparently "being old" is a valid excuse for making a mistake on every single assignment. No reason you shouldn't get an A though if you put in the effort. Just annoying, and her powerpoints become garbage during the end of semester cuz you can't rewind or forward. 100 extra credit point tho.
Free textbook. Simple class structure (1 handout day, 1 group quiz day, 1 individual quiz day, occasional test day interspersed). Has repeatable Blackboard quizzes. Overall very easy to get an A in the class, because she has over 1100 possible points for the semester and you only need 900 to get an A.
Take Spindle if you are afraid of not passing 203. I thought I was doomed until I switched from Olds to her class. Clear grading criteria and a lot of the work is done with your group. Put in a decent amount of work and I promise you will pass. I wish I could take her again for 204. She has been one of my best professors to date.
Professor Spindle is a very kind, but kinda crazy person. Her class is very straight forward: handout day, group quiz, individual quiz, and eventually test day. She answers any questions on quizzes and sometimes even gives the answer. Accounting is not the easiest subject, but Spindle made it a lot easier. The class has a lot of collaboration.
Professor Spindle has an interesting way of teaching. Instead of giving lectures, gives narrated PowerPoints. This can cause some confusion when it comes to class work and tests. Tests are nothing like the in class work. However, online quizzes are easy and can be taken multiple times. Make sure you are in a good group for in class work.
I do NOT recommend. This is a "flipped classroom" therefore she doesn't teach but instead you have to listen to her power points. Every class there is group/individual quizzes so if you miss class, you miss the quizzes. Exams are only 11 questions, worth 10 points each. Also, she ISN'T helpful when you ask her for help on how to solve a problem.
Professor Spindle was an extremely good introductory professor for financial accounting. The class structure consisted of a handout day, a group quiz day, an individual quiz day, and a test day interspersed appropriately. The class was not by any means an easy A, but it was achievable with the right amount of studying and mastery of the material.
Spindle is a good choice for introductory accounting. She makes herself available for questions and helps you on quizzes and tests. She gives you a lot of different assignments but it helps to manage your grade, one bad test grade wont prevent you from getting an A in the course.
Prof Spindle is fantastic! I took ACCT203 with a different prof earlier and failed, but I finished with a high B in Spindle's class. There is a quiz almost every class but they are super helpful for readying yourself for the exams. The way her curriculum is set up is a perfect path to success in the class. Spindle is your best choice for sure!
Spindle is a great choice for 203 and 204, both of which I have taken with her. Both courses have a very simple structure: watch the online lecture and then go to class for worksheet, group, and individual quiz days. She sets you up to succeed! Very, very reasonable and is very quick to help you.
Disaster. Avoid at all costs. Can't handle technology or excel. Does not lecture. Makes horrible mistakes, but if you do the same your grade suffers. Also, if you complain about her lack of teaching and compassion, it goes nowhere but back to her, along with your name. Save yourself.
Teaches most of her class through powerpoints that you look through on your own, then does one day of instruction and then two days of back to back quizzes. Miss a day and you're done for. She doe seem to care about her students and is often rude for no reason. I don't recommend taking as she will not respect you or care if you fail.
She is one of the best Accounting Professor. Her tests are similar to the group and individual quizzes. She gives 4 test and one final exam and lots of quizzes which really helps the grade.
it's the same routine powerpoint, group quiz, individual quiz, test. Although this class always has me busy I appreciate it because accounting is a very hard and boring subject to learn so you need a routine like this to keep you on your feet. Never miss any assignment! the minute you become behind in this class everything goes downhill
Plan to go to every lecture because she explains things better than in the pp lectures you do on your own and you do a group assignment that is very helpful. acc is hard but she is very straightforward and if you work for it its easy to pass. class is well organized and the assignments are all you really need to succeed.
Spindle is definitely the nicest teacher in the account department. She understands the difficulty of accounting so she gives you an opportunity to pass the class with assignments other than just exams that are ridiculously hard. Lectures are very good and she teaches slow so you can keep up.
By far the nicest professor in the accounting department unlike other acct professor she actually gives you a chance to pass the class instead of only giving you 3 ridiculously hard exams. Works with students however she can to make sure you understand the information. TAKE HER IF AVAILABLE.
she posts powerpoints for you to watch before class and then you work on problems in class from those PPTs. Make sure to watch them and try on the quiz - quiz has unlimited attempts. Once you start falling behind,it gets tough. This class is easy. Dont miss more than 2-3 classes in the semester, average a B/C on the tests, and you'll get an A fasho
Best professor for accounting. Gives you unlimited attempts for quizzes, she wants you to succeed in the class. Only a total of 3-4 exams with 10-20 questions on each exam.
Spindle is an amazing professor! You have two open-note quizzes per week (one group and one individual) that you can take as many time as necessary in the one hour class. These are treated as in class learning experiences, so they are no pressure and you basically just end up studying in class!! She answers any question you have and explain it well
Prof Spindle was a good prof. Could have provided more info during lectures, but she uses PowerPoint slides as well. The class itself is hard but if u have to take it, she's likely one of the best choices. Class is usually taking an individual or group quiz. You get unlimited attempts on the hmwk and quizzes tho. Take notes and study! Pay attention
Very nice and caring professor. Knows how to teach the subject well, everyone who takes her ends up loving her class and learning more about accounting than you would with any other professor. She is a real gem.
She's a great teacher. Knows the information really well, and is always ready to help you out. She answered emails quickly. The class was not hard at all if you just show up, make sure to look at the PowerPoint, and listen to the lectures you're good. lots of easy little classwork assignments but not bad at all.
She's really old-fashioned and uses a landline phone so it's hard to get her outside of class. She does set up a lot of review time and office hours if you need them. This is a very hard class and she moves fast. She's very matter-of-fact and a bit stern. The textbook is free!! But we didn't really use it.
Overall professor spindle is great at teaching any level of accounting (i had her for 203). BUT with that said, get ready for her sarcastic undertones if you ask a question, or if you dont understand something. She can be pretty ruthless sometimes which makes her students wonder why she still teaches.
For her once a week class, she posts a slideshow w a voiceover of her explaining it. You take a quiz on that lecture but have a week to watch the lecture and do the quiz. She goes over material for an hour and the rest of the class is group work. You have to STUDY to pass, she gives you plenty of resources and practices tho. Tests/quizzes open note
She moves fast, but if you take the time to study and understand the material it helps a lot. especially if you don't know how to work excel you'll need to put in extra time at the beginning to not be lost for the rest of the course
The professor is amazing, she has great notes, graded on class assignments, and you do all of the learning on your own. She is ALWAYS available to students if you want or need help. If you don't like the material it will be hard to pass, as accounting is hard and gets quite dense the further you go.
Solid professor. This is considered a weed out class for business majors, so you might have a tough time, but it's not too bad with Spindle. She makes it clear at the beginning that it's hard work. She expects about nine hours a week, but I did well with 2-3. Tests are open note. Write out the questions that were hard on quizzes and you'll do well.
Professor Spindle is amazing. Her class is well-structured, tests are open notes, and there's plenty of extra credit. She was also very accommodating when I couldn't take the final exam on the assigned day. Overall a very easy and kind professor!
She mainly gives you notes and then you just learn from that. whenever you ask how to do something she will ask you to look back at your notes. Makes grammar/numerical errors sometimes on assignments, which can really confuse you. Again she doesn't clearly explain how to solve the problem; gives you the work for you to figure out. Self learning.
people say she's the best 203 professor.... TRUST she isn't. but I passed her class so I can't complain
people sometimes say that Professor Spindle is mean, but honestly I think she has expectations for her students. she lays out the course out of 1,092 points where each assignment u take gets you points, so you always know how you're doing in the semester. ive also Zoomed 1 on 1 with her before, she's very nice so dont let these people scare you.
Not my favorite professor. All work is done during the class time. She'll let you retake it as many times as you want within the time frame. Only hard part of the class were the exams, because there wasn't any prep. Everything is point based- Assignments are 10/13 points each, exams up to 100 points, and the final is 200 points. Just do the work.
This class is very poorly structured in my opinion. Most of the time you are just doing work on your own simply sitting in the zoom. She will take questions and help you as much as you need but she comes off kind of judgmental if she thinks your questions aren't good. I'd try to find another accounting class to take.
She's the type of teacher that you feel like you cannot ask for help. She's judgmental when you ask and she does not really walk you through problems when you're confused. Must go to almost every class in order to finish assignments given since you only have 50 minutes to do it. Overall just not very willing to help or explain content and not nice.
Prof Spindle is great. Prepare ahead of class, apply yourself in the group work, and ask for help. Ton of extra credit provided on tests and group work. I suggest meeting with her outside of class to better understand (if needed) until it starts to click, she will happily go over the material again and again (speaking from experience).
The professor is always just talking, rather than explaining everything thoroughly. It is an online class and there is always at least one moment where her wifi cuts out and the students tell her to repeat what she said, and she does not listen. Be prepared for the individual and group graded quizzes. Also, the tests are nothing like the quizzes.
half way through and it has been so painful, I stopped joining the zooms and her wifi cuts out every time she types in excel so its hard to keep up, work is only open for 50 minutes and she doesn't really give feedback on what we did wrong/right
The class is a flipped format. You watch the lectures and complete quizzes virtually. You spend the entire time in class working on a group assignment. I don't think it's conducive to learners who haven't taken accounting before. I only got a B in the course due to the points based grading system she uses.
Professor Spindle did an excellent job at designing a fair class. If you read, listen in lecture and put effort into the group assignments there will be no surprises on the exams. She set up a point based system that allowed you some wiggle room - she is funny, kind and will go out of her way to help you. Take her class!
If you fail, that's on you, on my momma
Professor Spindle is awesome. Grading criteria is clear and she's always willing to help outside of class. It's super easy to get so ahead in this class and then coast for the rest of the semester into an A because of her grading system.
