Erickson was difficult to get use too. At first I had to teach myself from the book before I understood his teaching meathods. You have to keep your notes in a seperate note book that he checks occasionally. Tests were pretty easy, as long as you do well on your test you will do fine in the class.
His teaching method is not very clear or logical in that he will show every way to solve a certain problem, which leaves the student confused. He has a lot of small quizes which serve as tests, and homework is required. You must do it to pass the tests. Overall he's ok, but buy the solutions manual cuz you'll need it. You won't learn much in class.
He's very intelligent and seems to know a good deal deal about math and engineering,BUT he just can't present it in a way that makes it possible for other people to learn. He assigns too many daily homework problems-unaware of the time that is required to complete even one stats problem. 10 "quizzes"(aka tests). stats project=killer!
Alright, listen. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. If your already signed up for it, drop it. Stay an extra semester if necessary. I'm telling you to get my "B" I worked four-five hours a day. In class, then studying the book and at the tlc lab. He is terrible at explaining, confusing and absolutely useless. I'm sure he would make a great accountant somewher
Though he likes to tell stories and is a bit eccentric, overall he is a good instructor. To be sucessful, you must attend regularly and pay attention. Ask questions. If you don't he can't help. I think many of the negative comments come from those who would prefer to sleep in class and have a grade handed to them. Your in college, grow up a bit.
Mr. Erickson is down to earth, approachable, and unique. He is very smart and above our level. But, learning is also the student's responsibility. Be proactive and open line of communication. Fulfill all the requirements of the class even the extra credits. Apply tips on how to succeed in Math especially the higher ones. He will grade accordingly.
No, no, no and NO! Do not take this class ever with him. He goes off on tangents about nothing. He doesn't like to memorize formulas. He likes to think of another way to solve it. If you don't solve the problem the way he likes to with long unneccessary steps, you get marked down on quizes. The amount of work was ridiculous. NO!
If you want to learn, and are willing to go to class... Take his class! He knows how to make you want to use the data you learn by showing you how to apply it in other fields rather than just math class. Really nice guy, and if you do all the work, you can get an A.
his class was a very easy class as long as you did the homework. There was not much homework but what he gave really helped to teach the material. Take his class. He is funny in a goofy way and he keeps the class moving.
Dont listen to anyone who said anything negative about Mr. Erickson. This class was so easy & fun.Me & my bf both got A's.Im almost positive a majority of the class did.He makes everything so clear & has great review for the midterm & final. Take his class. Trust me I have never done well in any class except this one. Its almost impossible to fail!
Great professor overall. I hesitate on putting that he is an "Easy" professor, but he is very fair. The homework was never very large, he cut off a lot of the homework that was just busy work and just had people do what was necessary. I highly recommend him, he truly does care about helping you out and is a really great guy in general. Best of luck
An extremly nice guy who truly cares about his students. He is bad at answering e-mails but genuinly tries to help. The only problem is that he is too smart and does not know how to put things in simpler terms for students to understand. If you are generally good at math and can teach yourself then go for it, but if you struggle find someone else
He is a really nice guy and funny at times. He does have a problem of going off subject frequently to talk about certain subjects. If you can understand math easily I suggest you take him. Otherwise, if you struggle, he's not the guy to take.
Great professor, goes off subject sometimes. But if you take notes in his class and pay attention the whole class you will do good on tests. After taking his class I actually understood algebra and liked doing problems. Be prepared to work and it will pay off.
You would need to teach yourself if you took his precalculus class. His lectures are off topic and irrelevant.
up until this class i was beginning to like math and now I don?t really care to touch it with ta ten foot pole. Erickson would go off subject every day (literally) and was never really clear on what he wanted us to study. I am not a lazy student (3.7GPA) but after this class I have a nice ?C? on my transcripts
He is alright I guess. It is an easy class to begin with, hard to screw up geometry. Probably the most bland and boring person I have ever met in my entire life. He is honestly very nice and friendly, but he cannot teach/keep students engaged to save his life. It's better to ditch half the time and study at home. Save yourself the hour of boredom.
Wonderful teacher, cares about his students, funny, silly, a brilliant mind. As long as you do the homework and attend class, you will well. He helps you understand what you don't know. He goes above and beyond a regular professor. I would recommend him for any level math class you need.
Instructor very blunt and not encouraging at all.No extra credit, no study guide just "study the chapter". I do not recomend this class with this instructor unless you have a private tutor.
I absolutely loved math prior to this class. I took Geometry in high school and aced it easy. His voice is very monotone and he talks about random boring nonsense that doesn't interest me or anyone else for that matter. His tests are short and blunt which is good but his explanations suck.
very much in his own world. all the test had something we did not cover. was very unclear when he explained things.
Great teacher, really wants everyone to pass. Lets you drop your lowest scoring test and curves all the others. I would and already have recommended him to other people. He really "dumbed" it down to explain it, which is exactly what my class and I needed. 1/2 the class only showed up for tests.
This instructor explains things in a way that is understandable. I think the students that may have a problem with him are ones that don't show up. He genuinely cares about the success of his students. If you show up and do the work, you will do well. If you think you can just show up for tests, blame yourself and not him for your failure.
He's ok for stats. He let us use all of the formulas on tests. Highest grade gets 100% on the test and curve the rest accordingly. I spent 3-4 hrs a day in the lab, so make friends with stat tutors. Didnt buy the book, still got a B. Ask him about his conspiracy theories, lol
Probably the worst teacher I have ever had. I came into this class wanting to learn and pass. He does not explain things well at all. He likes to talk about stars and things that do not relate to this stats class. You basically have to teach yourself everything. I definatly would not reccomened him to anybody. Worst teacher I have ever had.
I dreaded going to class everyday knowing I wouldnt learn anything new. I basically learned from the study guides he gave us with answer keys because it is similar to his test. I wish I picked a different professor for this subject.
I have always been good at mth and struggled everyday with this class. BE PREPARED ... to teach yourself, spend lot of time in tutor lab, and 3hrs on homework every night. WORST CLASS IVE TAKEN.. He is a nice guy though =/
Erickson is nice, but gets distracted very easily and goes off on tangents. Do your homework and visit the TLC. It helps! There were times you had to get help from others because the way he taught things was not very clear. If you want to LEARN stats, then I would take another professor. Otherwise, Erickson is passable. Tests are straightforward.
Erickson is a very good professor. Just like every class you take in college, your grade will reflect the time and effort you put in. The students that were there everyday did well. Don't take him if you are just looking for an easy class. Erickson's teaching style prepares you for a 4 yr school. Work hard and don't make excuses & you'll be fine
Erickson is a very genuine professor. He LOVES math--especially any type of math related to aerospace engineering or anything of that sort. That being said, he WILL go off topic pretty much EVERY class. You must visit TLC lab and learn to work your hw out thoroughly (tests are based on hw). He's an awesome grader and will give partial credit.
He gets off topic way too much. Does no explain material well at all. Hard to get in contact with. When he gives a study guide his exams can be easily passed. However, his rants on other topics took time away from the class. The whole semester we were behind forcing him to rush through material.I DO NOT RECOMMEND! He needs to work on managing time
Good teacher overall. His note-taking methods and lectures are fairly organized and clear;I found them useful and applied them to other classes(I am a stem major) . Although he may go off topic and digress into stories about his life and career, the stories he tell are of great value and relevance, teaching us about STEM-related topics and careers.
It was an easy class overall (do the study guides)but lecture was often confusing. He would often go on long tirade about space or his life and was obsessed with conspiracy theories. Still, he was great.
He's a good guy but extremely disorganized. Frequently wasted 50%-75% of lecture off topic and tries to squeeze in some frantic instruction at the end. Mandatory note taking so if you're a tactile/auditory learner you'll hate it. I liked him personally but he seems amateur as a professor. Tests aren't too hard, but he takes a while to grade them.
Terrible professor, frequently goes off topic and talks about his personal life. He is not good at explaining tougher topics and gives pointless projects that do not help with the understanding of any of the topics presented in the class. Avoid, if possible
Simply, the worst. Blames his students for his own mess ups; disorganized; assigns essays and power-points; lectures are a complete waste of time and all material is straight from the book; hw is a random 50 questions out of the book, with many involving material not covered yet. On top of all that, check out his conspiracy website "mymathmantra".
Doesn't give study guides/do any test review, doesn't allow time for homework questions, frequently refers students to the TLC instead of helping, wastes 30 min. talking about irrelevant things, then rushes the whole section in the last part of class, highly disorganized, though the notebook must meet his organization standards. Do not recommend.
I have had 5 other math classes at COC, Prof Erickson is by far the best. You get points by simply doing the homework, notebook, and classwork (Basically a Free 15%). He is one of the only Prof's at COC who lets you use a Calculator, as well as a notecard on some tests. He was also upfront at the beginning of his EXACT expectations for your work
Lectures are easy to understand. No hand out study guides for six tests (5 mid-semester, 1 final). Tests are straight forward but make sure you know your math. 1 or 2 questions every test are tough. Easy B if you pay attention. Relatively easy A if you actually do your homework. Overall, good teacher.
Erickson is a very nice guy and is there for you if you ask for help. This said, you will need to ask for help. Lectures can be a bit disorganized from my experience and if you don't ask questions you will fall behind and it will hurt you. Test are not too bad at all but Im still unsure of where the questions come from; this makes it hard to study.
Erickson really likes to go off on tangents about spaceships and their parts. It was interesting for the first few minutes, but when it begins to go on for 30 minutes it's annoying. Doing all of the homework and class work can save your grade, so you need to show up.
Cool guy with interesting stories. However, often times he would waste time and rush the lecture being more unclear than usual. I believe I had an advantage since I had taken precalculus in high school, so I had seen most of the material. If it were my first time seeing this material I would have been so lost. He does allow calculators!
Has very specific standards for homework, but is himself disorganized. For some reason hates line paper. He doesn't really understand how to project his voice for long, he begins to mumble and its easy to get lost. Overall, I'm taking this class cause I have to, and have no choice but to go to the tlc as they might be of use. Do not take this guy.
His lecture is long. He has really interesting stories but often times the story is too long. Some of the homework he can't even explain them... I am in his Physics 101 class at LACC. He is a little bit hard in grading, but he can understand students and there for some help.
Excellent at relating coursework to business applications and encourages all of his students to succeed. Homework is reasonable, and exams are challenging yet well-spaced throughout the semester. You can earn a good grade by completing all your work and doing the recommended study for exams. Always answers student questions. Take his class!
Since most of the stuff here is vague I'll specify: .Homework everyday but does count for credit .lectures are heavy but he makes it interesting and fun .Drops the two lowest test grades so PERFECT .Test are simple if you understand the chapters .Test are chapter by chapter so it's literally one chapter at a time .Notebook notes counts as grade
Mr. E is always changing the descriptions for his assignments. No study guides are handed out for tests. He digresses too much during lectures. He is not good at teaching the material and tutors had to teach me most of the material.
Mr. Erickson is a solid teacher. He does sometimes go on tangents but they're usually about how the material can be used in the real world, which is cool. His tests are short and ok if you do the homework and understand the concepts. Lectures were theorem heavy but maybe that's just the nature of the class... Good teacher overall.
Mr. Erickson is alright, his tests are fair and he drops one, plus grades homework for completion. My complaint is that he goes off on too many tangents, didn't seem to have lectures organized, and he fell behind so the class felt rushed at the end. Be prepared to teach yourself a lot of the material.
Professor Erickson is extremely knowledgeable about the engineering fields. Tests are difficult, but graded fairly. Test questions are from the book or homework. He tends to run the class behind schedule. The homework load can be brutal. His tangents are entertaining and informative. Take his class if you actually care about learning the material.
I took him for linear algebra and I learned nothing from. I attended all classes but one. His lectures are very unorganized and his grading is not clear. He takes points off of questions without giving adequate explanations. He goes off on tangents all the time sometimes longer than 30 minutes. I ended up teaching myself from the book and youtube.
DO NOT TAKE HIM. HE DOES NOT TEACH AND HE ALWAYS GOES OFF ON TANGENTS.
His lectures were pretty useless as he just goes off his pre-written notes and doesnt work out examples all the way. Tons of HW, he cant do last few hw problems himself. Many ppl dropped/ failed class eventually. He ended up putting in a ridiculous amount of extra credit to make grade averages normal. Grades things quickly, but AVOID IF YOU CAN.
He is rude and condescending at times. Do not take this professor if you want to learn.
Not a bad teacher, but he's quiet and has messy writing. Sit close to the board if you want to be able to hear the lectures. Homework is graded for completion, so it's a good way to boost grades. His tests are difficult, but he drops the two lowest tests. All tests and finals are weighted a lot, so study. Warning: he goes on tangents all the time.
Took this professor for Linear Algebra. This was the first time I had a hard time on a math class. Professor Erickson, as a person, is very nice, but when it comes to teaching, no. He goes off tangent every time and the lectures are long. The final exam was really weird; it was like a story. Self-taught myself throughout the semester.
This guy should have been aborted. He does not know how to teach. He goes off on tangents and the final is really confusing. DO NOT TAKE.
Pretty bad. He does not convey the information very well. He goes off of old notes and gets confused . He also does not stress the important parts and it's easy to get lost in the lecture and miss an important part. I basically had to teach myself everything. A lot of homework. The only good thing about this guy is that he curves all of his tests.
He is by far the worst math professor I have taken. He goes off tangents a lot in class, I would not recommend taking him at all. Take any other math professor if you want to pass the class and Actually Learn something.
Great teacher. Although Erickson might be deemed as tough by some students standards, his current low score shouldnt scare you. He is extremely well versed in his subjects and is straightforward. Fair grader, great lectures, real world applications. Take his class. Apply yourself. Pick his brain. You wont regret it. Would take again hands down
I would definitely not recommend taking this class unless you are familiar with stats or know how to teach yourself!!!
He can wander off-topic sometimes, but he seems to be aware of this habit and will get back to the topic if you just ask a question related to the lecture. Be prepared to study the book, however, especially for a heavy course; there's little time in-class to actually do the stuff, especially deeper into the semester.
Doesn't ever go over anything and loves to lecture off topic on stories that make no sense to what's going on inside the classroom. Difficult class with lots of homework but could be easy if you learn on your own well or have taken the class before
Prof. Erickson is humorous and laid back. He'd lecture in his socks. Class was difficult considering there was a lot of homework and it was graded heavy (few homework assignments were 100+ points). He uses Matt Teachout's online textbook. No need to take notes, everything is in the online book. He lets you turn in late work, but it'll add up.
took erickson for fall at valencia. WOULD NOT RECCOMEND. It was basically an online class you had to show up for. His lectures are messya and confusing & always goes off topic. Thankfully i remembered some stuff from high school, but if youre 100% new to stats, be prepared to attend tutoring/teach yourself the material. Youtube was my sensei
Professor Erickson understands and is well versed in STEM subjects. He gives very well articulated and in-depth lectures on all topics of calculus. He covers material in an easy to understand manner.
Im not a STEM major and I have a general dislike of the subject matter, but this class was standard/good. It's important to listen during lectures (even tangential ones) and to put A LOT OF TIME into studying or you WILL NOT get an A. As a professor he will put time in to explain things if you're confused and he is actually a really great guy.
He's a very nice professor, if you do what's asked and do your best to be ahead of the homework it's easy. Learning the material on your own is crucial, and if needed tutoring as well. I recommend if you're independent!
An overall great teacher, I took him for my last attempt at statistics and due to the amount of work and effort you have to put it really pays off. He goes by the book and teachers you everything step by step so the work becomes a breeze. He is an over all amazing teacher and a really cool guy. I would take again if I could
I struggled with stats but it wasnt because of Mr. Erickson. Stats is just a difficult subject matter for an English major. I thought he was caring and I enjoyed taking his class. Im done with all my math prerequisites but if I wasnt, and needed another math class, I would take it from him.
Great class overall! Reason I said if you skip class you won't pass was well, because it's a math class. The professor would take time to answer your questions as clearly as possible and would even stay after class for students to help any who where still confused with the material. He was also very accommodating to me when called for riots.
He just drones on and on and on about things that are completely unrelated to the class.... He does a poor job of defining terms and explaining the course material, and provides absolutely no preparation for the weekly quizzes. We don't even go over half of the problems on the quizzes and he literally gives us 5 minutes to complete the entire quiz
Quizzes and tests are brutal, as is the homework load. He knows statistics well, and can teach, but seems ill-prepared for quizzes and tests, and out of 30 questions on our first quiz, 9 were of material we had covered. From a student perspective, it is challenging to manage, especially with remote classes because of COVID.
Uses teachouts website, doesnt know the material well, also doesnt respond to emails considering this is an online course. He creates the test during class break. Always unprepared for class, goes off on tangets about his kids. Terrible writing, BORING BORING lectures. Test are extremely long not enough time. Don't take his classes. Nice guy tho :/
One of the worst math teachers I've ever had. For comparison, I've gotten A's in all of calculus and linear algebra. I am trending towards a low B in this class because his lectures do not match homework which do not match tests. He is extremely off topic, never responds to emails, and gives no test prep whatsoever. Do not take. Would rate 0.
Another wise guy who never learned how to teach. Mightve been good in his past profession, but he certainly is not even a decent teacher. He lectures as if we already knew everything, and could barely understand him. Forgets about office hours, never responds to emails, and is not considerate to those who work long hour shifts. Beware of this guy
He's a good guy, but if this is your first math class, I highly recommend that you avoid this professor. The textbook doesn't match the test, but some of the questions do, maybe they don't-- maybe you weren't even taught that. Do you need to email a question? Won't answer. Miss a class or two? You risk being dropped. Need grades? Good luck.
WORST PROFESSOR EVER!! I have gotten A's in ALL my past math courses DE is really not that difficult of a subject, but good luck learning anything with Erickson. Laziest prof. ever, doesn't know the first thing about teaching, completely unorganized, lectures are pointless you'll do better if you don't even watch them, AVOID TAKING!! AVOID, AVOID!!
Professor Erickson can be lenient at times but i would recommend taking another professor. He's very fast paced and doesn't go over the material very well. if you dont know the material beforehand it will be very confusing. exams and quizzes are proctored through zoom, lots of hw doesn't respond to emails. You will definitely have to work for an A.
Roy taught well in a challenging year. You do need to attend class, do the homework. If you ask for help, he will make sure you understand! Showing up just for tests will lead to getting friends to post nearly identical negative reviews. Doesn't sound like they were in the same class I was, but I guess you get out of it what you put into it.
I've always been intimidated to take this class, knowing it would be a rough topic. I found that by completing all the assignments, and getting Mr. Erickson's excellent one-on-one assistance during office hours, I could understand this rigorous topic. All said I'm pleased w/ my grade & couldn't have comprehended it without Mr. Erickson's help.
Great Professor and very solid lectures. Personally, don't have an interest in math but he made the course much easier and fun to understand. Make sure you leave time to do homework assignments for this class, study for tests and you won't have a problem learning the lessons.
Professor Erickson is an excellent choice, though it is ill advised to perceive such a comment as "An easy A." While I am not partial to mathematics myself, if one would want to learn how it actually works he's your guy. However, Professor Erickson expects you to work for your grade and respect his class. Very caring too, and is willing to help.
He’s the worst! He’s so unorganized and gave us homework that he didn’t even teach in the lectures. Absolutely one of the worst professors ever. Avoid at all costs.
This professor gave good lectures explaining how to solve the homework to do later that night. He stayed after class if someone needed a clarification on a topic, and his homework was usually just as difficult, if not harder than the tests, so it prepared you well. He's a tad slow when responding to emails, but homework was due the following week.
Prof Erickson cares deeply for his students and is willing to spend time talking after class if necessary. I found his grading to be very fair and he normally informs you on which questions/concepts to focus on in order to succeed on tests. As long as you attend lectures and are willing to spend time on the homework, the class is very much doable.
Professor Erickson offers a teaching style especially made for STEM oriented students like me, STEM students are lucky to have him, and he's a credit to the College of the Canyons,
Mr Erickson is a good professor. I enjoyed his lectures, and helped me understand things that I normally struggle with ordinary differentials equations. People who put in the work, got the grades that they were looking for, and bonus, they actually learned the material!
Want to learn and actually understand the material? Then I say Mr Erickson is your professor, because he really cares that his students can learn. Make sure to put in the work, and then he's the best!
Professor Erickson is a very easy grader when it comes to tests. He does require homework and a notebook that is all graded, but these help you stay on track during the class and not fall behind. Homework is graded by completion. If you do all of your homework for this class and have a strong background in Algebra you should be able to get an A.
Some of the chapters seemed fast paced, but if you kept up you could at least get a B in the class. To get an A you some times needed to avail Professor Erickson of his office hours, as, especially one on one, he is a very excellent instructor who knows course topics extremely well.
I took Mr. Erikson for both pre calc and calc 2 and he cares about helping his students and makes the difficult experience of Calc 2 a little easier. Although his lectures can be slightly hard to grasp because of the hard material, he is a very easy test grader and bumps up test grades based on the averages. He truly wants his students to succeed.
Honestly not that bad of a professor as the low ratings might insinuate. He's a bit monotone in his lectures, and goes off on a lot of tangents regarding the course material, but his website includes all previous notes and sample exams. There is absolutely no reason for you NOT to get a B or an A in his class if you actually put in a bit of effort
I just wanted to say this guy was my Geometry teacher a while ago. But I enjoyed his teaching style and he was a great teacher. You show up you do your homework, and get tutoring if you need and he will pass you.
This professor is equipped with a very confusing style of teaching where he doesn't cover anything in the chapter but assigns homework, projects, tests, and a final that require you to go back after class and dig through the random mix of textbooks used to learn the way he wants it done. Half the time i had no clue what is due if anything.
If there is anyone else teaching statistics take them. His two-hour lecture consists of him ranting about his personal life. He assigns a massive amount of homework. He is not understanding and when you ask for help he says he'll get to it and never does. He does everything but teaches the actual class. His tests are hard and he grades unfairly.
Most Calc 3 learning was spent on YouTube instead of lectures by Erickson. He has a fun personality but a monotonous voice as he often goes off on tangents and is disorganized. His tests are fairly easy as he provides good study guides. Just do your homework and prepare well for exams.
this professor 100% has ADHD in some capacity. that being said, his website heavily makes up for his lack of organization and his tangents during class. if you're lacking organization yourself, I would stay away. (watch professor leonard or go to paul's online math notes if you need to self study)
I felt that Professor Erickson never explained any of the conceptual aspects of the math and I gained 0 insight on any important concepts. He was disorganized, goes on random tangents, and does not teach well. As a side note he is always willing to help students and his exams are fair. Expect to spend hours on Youtube and learn about his life
He gave clear lectures and was available for questions afterward, and he scans the paper notes so you can refer back to them later. I really appreciated him handwriting his lecture notes in real-time, so I could keep up writing my own notes instead of having lecture slides that disappear after 2 seconds. He was fair when it came to curving tests!
His class was not that hard for a math class. The notes we take during lecture are very helpful for the homework and the tests. The study guides are the best part as they help a lot with the outcome of your exams. The only downside to his class is his random talks he makes during lecture. Overall not bad.
My issues with the class mainly lie on Prof. Erickson intentionally making his tests harder than the tests he made for the same class he taught years prior. They were doable, but for an accelerated class, it was rather deceptive. He was also quite disorganized and would go on long tangents during instruction. His website is nice though. (math 211)
Very fair grader. Interactive. Makes learning fun and he expects you to work hard; this will earn you an endless amount of benefits in life. Speaking of life, he goes on tangents sometimes but they always contain good lessons about the world. Professor Erickson is a great math teacher and an amazing life teacher. His lessons will stick with you.
He was super chill and the class wasn't so hard. Lots of note taking so its super easy to study for tests.
I spent the majority of my time seeking help from math tutors on campus or online. When I sought help I wasted time because the tutors didn't know how this professor thought the course. This class is very notes heavy. There is very little to no practice in class, so I taught myself at home. However, I did feel as if he was fair with test scores.
He was a good teacher, but he would go on random tangents about his daughter at Berkley. Lectures were boring, but they were not difficult at all. I used most the time in class to study/prep for my other classes. Overall, its an easy class with easy exams. Homework is due every Monday at the end of class. (I did it during lectures on the due date)
Stop yapping about your daughter and family, no one cares about you hopeless you professor, stick to teaching stats, if your daughter is smart, why do you teach at a community college, if you hate life I suggest moving to Europe you fit better there
I think I learned more about his daughter and marital problems than the actual math. He actually would just not stop yapping. I learned more from a 5 min youtube tutorial than several of his classes. Absolutely not helpful, stick to teaching preschoolers please.
i got an f because i was too busy gooning to his toes while he walked around barefoot.
Rambles on and on. Don't bother with his lecture notes. Just use the free textbook he gives, teach it to urself. His tests are nonsensical. The homework is so straightforward, but his tests are just pages of riddles. I don't care at all ur daughter goes to Berkeley or that she doesn't know how to use a washing machine. PUT YOUR FEET AWAY PLEASE!!
Is a conspiracy theorist and lectures would often devolve into his conspiracies, family, and past work projects. Just teach the math, my guy. No one cares about your aliens and UFOs.
Lectures, while informative, were hard to read/hear due to low & monotone voice & handwriting. Often got sidetracked & went on tangents unrelated to class. Projects were given within 2 weeks of end of semester. About half the class still present near the end of semester. But his website was very helpful for formulas: mymathmantracom/Math.
Professor Erickson has a fun personality, but can be disorganized in lectures. I found YouTube and Unstuckstudy helpful for self-studying concepts. Attend classes, do homework, and prepare well for exams.
Being in this class is like taking an online class, but you are attending in person. He gets sidetracked, even while asking him questions in person. He doesn't reply to emails either. Just be prepared to read the lessons on your own time because he goes over whatever is in the math book. He gives out a lot of homework. Exams are pretty fair.
Lights are on but no one's home. Nice guy tho
Talk's like a toddler, very un-organized, rambles all class when asked for help he refers you to your partner who is also confused. needs a new job.
Cant talk properly and cant read his writing and get mad when we write bad on the homework. Needs to go on feetfinder because his toes are out and curling them in the back
Useless, overcomplicates the content for no reason, must be 80% deaf. Most of the time ignore your question, otherwise he tells you to ask a classmate, best case scenario, answers your question, halfway through the answer he walks away. Takes his shoes off in class, luckily his feet don't smell. Gives loads of homework. Goes off topic 24/7
The other reviews show Professor Erickson in such a bad light, but to be honest, he's not that bad. Even though he went off on tangents sometimes, I used this time to start on the homework. To me, his tests seemed pretty easy and were clear. If you have the chance, take Professor Erickson!
RUN. Take any other math class except this one. I could have gotten a good grade in this class if he weren't such a bad teacher. Straight up rude and confusing. Lied to students about how many exams were left and did not care. When asked a question, he wouldn't even answer half the time. The entire class was confused. Do yourself a favor and don't
Great professor, would like to take Calculus 2 with him
Bad rep but it actually very caring and KIND! Grades VERY leniently. Though his lectures weren't too helpful for me personally, learning outside of class is EXPECTED in these types of classes. Is passionate about student success...goes in and updates his notes on his website if there are mistakes etc. Much better than other math profs at COC!
(Couldn't select Math211 but that's that I took with him). From student to student, do not take this professor. He was extremely inconsistent on telling us what homework was due and when. He fell behind on lesson plans and would condense parts of units into one test. When students did bad on tests- blamed bad scores on politicians.. ?? (not joking)
