Wonderful professor and person. Gives out a lot of new ways of solving problems. Take neat notes, be attentive and you will do fine in his class. If you are struggling with math you may need to do extra work, but you will definately succed if you do the work.
excellent teacher!!! he gives alot of new and easy ways of solving the problems i would really recomend him to anyone

This guy is amazing! He tries to crack jokes here and there (they might be funny) but he's really down to earth. I learned to appreciate math more because of him. Got an "A" in his class and helped me get into the university i wanted to. What else could I ask for? He's awesome!
He stresses his notes which isn't a bad idea at all. At least you certainly have a reference, but sometimes he seems to go a bit too fast and because of time constraints, doesn't like to go back and review things he already taught. If you have problems understanding, you are better off asking right then and there.
Notes, notes, notes. What a control freak! Better keep up, or else you'll be lost. He may go over the old stuff, if he feels like it. And when he says you'll be tested on one thing, don't expect to be tested on that. If he says the exam will begin at a certain time, don't expect that either.
Loved the class!! I enjoyed his teaching methods. Kept me interested. Helpful, a good sense of humor. Homework and exams were fair. I highly recommend his class. .... "And that's all I have to say about that"
lighthearted, provoked interest in the subject.
great teacher! always shows ways to solve problems that aren't in the book. teaches lots of neat tricks and shortcuts. very helpful and a cool guy.
He taught one semester at ventura college. Some of the test questions I felt were unfair, because we had no similar homework questions... test material was unpredictable. Gave take home quizzes which balanced some of the bad test scores. He knows the math well and explains well. With a few more semesters of teaching this class he could be great.
Took professor for both 115 and 125 at LACC. His notes might be overkill but, personally, the organization helped me succeed in math. I recieved a B and then a C, however, I was a D- math student in high school.
He is very knowledgeable, helpful and friendly, but can be confusing at times. Just a few here and there. Mandatory notes can be a bit too much with all the homework. I stuck to the book and homework and as long as you do that for almost any class you should do fine. This is not a computer class which is fine with me.
This guy is a genius. Funny, Geeky, & Very3X Smart. A very helpful willing to share everything he learned. Notes are mandatory or else you'll miss the test. Always talks about that one worldwide radio news station. Sometimes confusing but he's an easy A. "Notes, Attendance, & Listen."
I am very happy that I took this class with Mr Erickson, I really understood his explenation. I appreciate the fact that he takes time to give helpful hints on studying and taking notes, this not only helped me in his class but in my current classes as well. I enjoyed this class very much.
he is awsome!thats all...his notes are what he stresses the most and his special way of doin h.w in white paper..he is funny, smart, helpful, and easy to talk to.take his class!make sure you do ur work.
Prof Erickson looks like Chandler from "Friends". I RECOMMEND TAKING HIS CLASS. He's a wonderful professor. He really cares about his students. He is the only prof I had that goes over hw for 1 1/2 hours. Because of him I'm more organized with my other classes due to his 'hw guideline and notebook'. :)

He is the BEST!! I wish he taught more math courses at LACC, he doesnt teach 125..bummer!! hes too funny and a genius. I hope he teaches statistics next semester. Overall..great professor!!
The BEST math teacher!!! he's helpful, easy going + great teaching methods
good professor, however, at the beginning of class he'd spent about 20 to 30 minutes talking politics.completely irrelevant to what we should have been discussing.by the end of the semester he rushed through the last 4 chaptrs and practically blamed the class for falling behind.final consisted of things he barely touched on.more math less politcs.
I had him about five years ago as a math instructor, he was good. However, not too good as a physics instructor. It is his first semester teaching it, but honestly its not the student's fault... ended up confusing the material that was presented in the book...I am not a lazy student, nor do I expect a class to be easy, he was just sucky in physics!
He si getting over the material so fast! He gives us 10-40 minutes for the exam ( usually 3-4 problems) and he needs 20 min to solve one. Lectures are very confusing, lab even worse; though he seems more confused than anybody. I constatly studied from my book, otherwise i couldnt understand most of his lectures. Very poor lecturer.
I definitely recommend taking his class-- he's very lighthearted and approachable, which is rare in a Math teacher. You do have to earn your grade though by STUDYING!
This professor is a horrible math teacher, his lessons are scattered, and his grading is very random. Will pass you even if you never attend class and take the final, which is not fair for those who are really trying to pass his class. VERY unhappy.
Prof. Erickson is a wndrfl teacher. I ABSOLUTELY HATE math, & 4 awhile thought that math was beynd me. he rly takes his time 2 make sure tht u undrstnd & hs explantns r clear. hes tough but fair, undrstndng & flxble, but he's got a crzy good memry, so he'll remembr whether u attended class regularly or participated. Take him if really wnt to learn.
I took Precalc with him over the summer and I was really impressed. He kept it interesting with funny stories and lots of breaks. Showed us lots of cool tricks and shortcuts that make concepts easier to understand. In all honesty Math was never my best subject but he was very patient and helpful which is rare. Great teacher, I highly recommend him.
The best math teacher i ever had.Very easy but gives allot of homework .Very helpfull towards all the student.Cares bout students.
This prof was ok in explaining the material but took too long at it. He had no build up to more difficult questions. The labs were the worst, you are pretty much on your own. The lab reports were explained too briefly. Other than that he would help in questions if asked personally. Not a bad guy, just needs to clarify more.
Professor knows his stuff but does NOT know how to teach it to students! He assumes everyone understands math jargon. He's teaching Physics beginner students, not graduate ones! He often contradicts himself in his lectures. He also mumbles a lot. He's a nice guy but it's useless to come to class. LACC shouldn't've hired him as a Physics teacher.
Professor Erickson is a highly competent teacher, he's very patient with his students, & his lectures are very comprehensive. He'll also answer any questions you have without making you feel stupid. A big chunk of your grade will come from 2 tests and 12 quizzes. Almost half of the class was reviewing algebraic concepts which many found hard.
I'm an A student & good with math, but he was all over the place. Class was 3.5 hrs long, but he would still go over. Tiny writing, WAY boring, labs divorced entirely from lectures. Overexplained remedial math yet underexplained complicated physics problems, throwing in weird conspiracy theory stuff along the way for spice. Defensive if questioned.
he knows physics, if you are not a math, engineer, or science major then don't take him. he means to prepare us in every way for the higher physics or sciences so it's not a class for someone who are lazy, don't care for physics or math. otherwise, you'll be prepare by being ahead of other people who are taking the same level of physics
He has personal issues that get in the way of being an effective teacher. Knows physics just like a teacher should, but doesn't know how to teach it. Throws in conspiracy theories during lectures and appears to be neurotic and paranoid. Switches from being mean to being nice and is confused when asked about his own syllabus. Fire him please!
Roy is experienced and interested in what he teaches and side-tracks now and then to relevant/interesting applications of the topic, good for long classes. He *tries his best* to keep the class moving as quickly as a 4 year which is good. The grader he uses for handouts is really inconsistent/doesn't care, but you can speak to him about this.
i wish he is teaching physics 101. i'm in physics 101 now but i still use the notes from his class, physics 11. it helps clarify ideas for physics 101. keep your notes if you have to study higher physics, it will help assuming you take good notes.
Excellent approach to teaching. Lectures are fun and he is very kind to students. Makes math simple to understand and he is reasonable with homework load. His classes are the type that you want to stay and listen to. He is very personable and accessible to students.
In the Physics 11 class, he asked us to submit homework for each section, which was helpful. He takes time to address questions. He can get sidetracked, but if you come to class prepared (read the book beforehand, pay attention to lecture, etc.), you should be fine. Very generous exam grader. Expect to work for grade. Explains lessons well.
Best math teacher ever! I highly recommend! I was nervous about taking math again after 5-yr break from school. However Prof. Erickson had a way of teaching & explaining math in a manner that gave me more understanding about it than I ever had before. Very kind & helpful. It disappoints me that he does not teach some of the other math courses.
I am usually an A student but I had a really hard time with Erickson for Physics 11. He goes over twice as much material per semester as the other physics 11 teacher, and it's really hard to keep up. Unless you're a science major, I wouldn't suggest taking him.
This man downloaded info into my brain where I still feel dentrytes jiggling & I learned Algebra w/enthusiasm Richard T. Solomon
I took Astronomy with Prof. Erickson back in Fall '13. We didn't use textbooks, tests and quizzes were on materials that he didn't really go over. There are stellariums that we do but they're manageable. He also "accidentally" dropped me and after asking him every week, he added me back 2 weeks before the semester was over.
he goes over things until we understand everything, he is very patient. he rambles and talks about other stuff but he is easier than my high school teacher.
He is awesome!!! i am currently taking him for trigonometry this summer, he is sooo funny. He makes coming to class and learning sooo enjoyable. he is very helpful and caring. he is highly intelligent and knows the subject very well. You can learn so much from him. his teaching technique is very clear and extremely effective. i am loving this class
He gives A LOT of HW, but his tests are easy. but u have to take notes in his way cuz he check it at the end of semester n it goes to ur grade which is super lame!!! why can we just take notes in the way we want!?? also why does it matter if and how we take notes? I like he uses the website that we can easily check our scores.
Took over summer with prof Erickson. It was my pleasure to meet him. He's a great guy and a great teacher. He'll teach you a lot of tricks and introduce a real life applications of any concept, which is pretty interesting. This was the most involved class I've ever take. You will have to put in a lot of work to get good results. Highly recomended!!
I took Math 262 "Calc 2" over the summer with prof. Roy Erickson and I have to say that even as fast-paced and nerve wrecking as the class was, Erickson took the time to attack main concepts. The schedule was tight, but I worked part-time and still passed the class. It is possible! Thanks to teachers like Roy, I have a newfound respect for Math.
Prof. Erickson is an AMAZING teacher. He knows his material and is passionate about it. Hes clear about what you need to know for midterm, final quizzes, etc. His lectures are very long (I took a five hour class) but they are interesting. Sometimes he goes off on tangents about something cool & interesting but it takes up time. Hes funny, too!
Only teacher in his department who requires a 90% instead of 85% for an A. Got a 89% and ranked 7th got a B. Still decent professor .
Horrible teacher. AVOID. He is not prepared for the course and he goes off topic and spends half of lectures knowing he is behind his schedule. Topics are irrelevant. Loves to brag. Lectures are unbelievably boring. His lecture notes are useless. Be aware to study yourself.
Professor Erickson is great. He does tend to go off topic but it's usually to relate what we're learning about, which I enjoyed. Lectures were long but helpful when doing hw. Quizzes were straight from the hw. He's a pretty lenient grader. Not an easy class, definitely have to put in work but overall great.
Great professor. He really cares about his students grades. If you just follow his directions, you can get an A easily. A professor can show you the direction but it is the student who needs to work hard to follow that direction and at the end of the path of the direction, you can earn your A. Work and succeed.
His lectures are great. He gives you really life applications for what you're learning. He deviates a lot but manages to somehow connect whatever he's talking about to the lecture, if anything, it makes it interesting and you can tell he loves what he teaches. The final was ridiculously tough, but there was a consistency in the grades.
Overall good professor, you can tell her loves what he does and I found the class enjoyable.
Gives LOT'S OF HOMEWORK!!! and is due every time you go to class. His test questions are not even related to the homework problems or from class work or lectures. You basically teach yourself from the book. His lectures are all over place his never prepared and talks about nonsense and waste time. 12 quizzes & midterm & final all taken in class.
One of the most amazing teachers I've ever encountered. His lectures are never boring and he is pretty funny. Took him this last summer 16 semester making it a fast paced class but he made it easy. He did leave a lot of homework which was due everyday which wasn't fun but it helped me retain the information. Had a test every Monday tough but easy A
Math 124 B (Fall 2016) He is a great Professor and nice man He is funny and I enjoyed his class.
He is extremely forgiving and far ,accomodating .
TEACHER CARES YOU LEARN. BUT MAYBE SPEAKING A LITTLE LOUDER DURING LECTURE CAN HELP. ALSO MAKING THE LECTURE A BIT MORE UNDERSTANDABLE .
Glad I took this class with Erickson, wishing I could take stats with him. He's thorough in his teaching method and a patient guy. I will admit he can be fast at times, but don't be afraid to speak up or ask questions. Coursework is reasonable for a math class. Tests similar to HW. Sometimes gets comedic, which can make class a little fun.
Dude looks like T-1000 From Terminator. You know, the melting metal guy. Do your homework & pass your tests. He is kind & cool. With Pre-Stats, you gotta work, he created a peaceful atmosphere & was a great teacher with a tricky subject. I wish he was teaching Stats because I would love to study with him again. I'm just glad he didn't terminate me!
Okay. So, he reads off the book. His lectures sometimes go off tangents. You will get behind in his own schedule making your rush some lectures. Ex: He lectured a section in chapter 12 for 5 minutes and moved on. No calculators for any test including the final. Overall, an okay teacher I guess.
I took professor Erickson during the summer and was real kind His lectures were just powerpoints take notes and you'll pass Gave quite a load of homework but nothing too stressful Tests were based on powerpoint and homework packets make sure to study the packet and powerpoint for which he generously posted online
I had this professor for Math 167 Fall Semester 2018. Im so glad I didnt listen to the other students comments. Im not the type of person to leave comments, but students should know the truth he is an amazing professor. HW isnt bad I got an A on his class lecture and HW is enough. I am a mother of two and work full time.
He is an amazing professor. If you do the homework and the practice tests you will most definitely get an A. He is very understanding, so just talk to him. Some of the homework questions are in the tests. He gives extra credit. There are 6 tests(drops the lowest), 5 in class projects, notebook worth 5% of your grade ,and a final worth 125 points.
Hes a great professor. His grading is very clear. He has quizzes for each chapter. If you do the homework and pay attention to the lectures you will get good grades on the quizzes. He dropped two lowest quizzes. Also have lot of classwork. Definitely not an easy class but if you study hard youll pass.
I took this class in the summer so it was a decent amount of work load. I would definitely would take this professor again. It is very important to show up every class , missing a just one class can cause you to miss some important key notes that youll need for your final or test .
Very professional. Clear and consise. Exceptional lectures. If you want to learn, you will. Your attitude will determine your outcome in the class.
Course: The most difficult I've ever taken Lectures: Brief and quick - could've been simplified Tests: Your life depends on it. Attendance: What are you trying to fail the semester skipping that one class? Office Hours: Office hours? I know only of the STEM lab and YouTube Videos Overall: Respect the smart guy, but not a fan of his teaching methods
Hes good but just gives way to much homework and excepts it to be done within the 2 day time period and if its late you get points off or it doesn't count.
Professor Erickson delivers a vigorous, yet fair calculus class. Note taking is very important. Be sure to attend class. He gives very in-depth proofs and examples of calculus topics.
Took him for Winter2020 session. I dont usually leave ratings but I liked his teaching. Homework was due every week and was a lenient grader. I would definitely take again if I had to take more math classes. :)
Professor Erickson, is awesome to be frank. As someone who had to take stats 3 times to actually pass the class he was the most helpful. Yes there homework yes there are test, but it will just help you understand the content. The due diligence of us as students go a long way and the Professor is there to back you up with any questions. Great Prof.
I like how he lets people make up missing work for his homework and lab to make a comeback on getting a better grade. The homework load he gave us was a good amount that you can learn from a lot. Especially during the lecture notes, he gives full information about each chapter we go over. Time management is a must if you want to pass his class.
The class is fine and the subject is fine. There is a lot of homework which is fine but it becomes too much for memorization which combined with Stellariums are a handful to memorize and do. I prefer to anyone reading to take a class with Mr. Killey. He makes Astronomy easy and possible to understand.
Professor Erickson is passionate about teaching. He is will help you think out of the box and share his experiences with you. He is a fun and engaging human. I took Geometry with him in summer 2018, Differential Equation MATH275 in Spring 2020 and ill be taking Linear Algebra MATH270 in summer 2020. Follow his clear guideline, you will succeed.
Professor Erickson is a wonderful professor who truly cares for his students. Linear algebra is a difficult class, but it's difficult with any professor. His lectures tend to be pretty long and sometimes boring, but I found that by going to some lectures and taking my own notes from the textbook I was able to succeed. Go to office hours!
Professor Erickson was a really nice and caring teacher and he put more emphasis on understanding how to solve problems on the test rather than always having to be precise which I think is great for people that make silly mistakes. There was lots of homework which is mostly due to it being a summer class but it was definitely helpful for the tests.
His class was easy its just homework based on the chapters and chapter quizzes. He does get off topic a bit in his lectures. He is very understanding and provides an extra credit opportunity.
Let's start by stating this... He literally set my class up for failure and actually announced the statement. Gave us a 31 Problem test and No Calculator Allowed. Based On the tags RMP allows, ill tell you what he doesn't do. No Feedback, Test Heavy, No Clear Grading Criteria, Not hilarious, Lecture heavy and cannot be contacted. Save your GPA.
Although there was a lot of homework and the class was test heavy, you will get a good grade if you do hw and attend lectures. Do your best to not to get distracted during lectures while learning online. The chapters build on each other so don't fall behind. Test problems will reflect classwork. Nice guy and very easy to understand his teachings.
Took his Physics 006 class, and one thing that I will say is that his lectures was monotony for three hours. I stopped attending lectures and used resources elsewhere to power me through the class with the textbook. His homeworks are intuitive with the tests though. But the nail in the coffin is that he is very very disorganized.
Pros: Obvious he cares about his students. He will answer any question you have in-class and is not irritated by it. Most assignments are easy A's. Study the HW and you'll get an A. I honestly never used the textbook. Cons: Not all questions for the HW are provided. Be prepared to search for the answers (they're all online anyway). Slow grader.
Never believe his good comments. Each exam is only an hour long and requires eight questions. The final exam only has two hours to do 15 questions, and each question is very difficult, no one can finish his final exam. He doesn't deserve four stars rate. If you want to get A's or B's, consider another professor. Honest warning every student.
hard grading
I would not recommend for this class. Professor just there to reject your questions as well as your emails. No helpful for the lectures since it is not including on your test. Tests and final are super hard to finish, and you have no to finish it. No study guide, no review sessions before test/exam. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS.
Erickson is the WORST professor I've ever had. We had 6 hours of zoom per week and he spent most of that time on personal/inappropriate tangents. He does not explain things well, yet also doesn't accept formulas learned outside of what he writes in lecture (even when you need them to answer the questions). Is inconsistent with OH. Do not take.
Great prof, but his class should only be taken if you're math savvy already. I graduated high school 8 years ago and this is my first time taking a math class since, so I need a lot of refreshing. He goes through the lecture really fast, so I struggled to keep up, or even understand what he was lecturing. I had to drop it before I ruin my gpa. :(
I had Prof. Erickson for both physics classes and it wasn't too bad. Homework is helpful with the tests, so definitely pay attention to your homework. Sometimes he throws in questions that aren't from the hw, but I expect that from a science class. No need to memorize formulas, understanding the material + knowing how to apply it are the keys.
-very nice guy and easy to contact and ask questions -long lectures, and could have improved with more structure through an easy to follow format (slides, typed notes) -formulas provided on tests make it easier to focus on concepts versus memorization -a little disorganized but very approachable guy so any problems can be addressed directly
I had an overall good experience with this class, I enjoyed it a lot. I'm still in high school and I took this as a summer class, but I was a bit overwhelmed by the homework. He had a really good attitude and would answer questions, also had really engaging lectures :)
I thought he was very nice though because it was online his lectures were a bit heavy.
He has real world experience and is fascinated by the material he teaches. He is reasonable, dedicated, and respectful. In the same token, he doesn't accept nonsense. The material was Lin Alg- what I really learned was to think more abstractly. He's not easy, but worth taking Improving/deepening abstract thinking => success in life/ CS/ physics...
Don't let these reviews fool you, as long as you stay consistent with the homework, I would say this course is very manageable. As someone who did not do good in my previous calculus classes, I still felt supported through office hours as he will aid you to success in the class!
Class itself is very easy simply by watching lectures and doing hw. Tests are a little time-cramped but straight forward & not too bad. The prof himself is very boring and goes off topic a lot. Also suspects a lot of people to be cheating if they don't join live lectures (does he not realize they're recorded and we can watch them on our own time?)
HIS COURSE WAS A NIGHTMARE! He is insane when it comes to cheating - accuses everyone of it and is basically paranoid. Makes up ridiculous rules that make no sense. LACC please take him under review and actually check out his teaching style. He seems mentally unstable. He gave us close to every lecture a 30 min talk about cheating. DO NOT TAKE HIM!
DO NOT TAKE HIM! HE WILL RUIN YOUR GPA! He gave us a final from MIT for a winter course but does not teach anywhere close to that level. He was being rude and condescending to people. He was never reachable! No replies to emails or canvas messages. Half of his lectures he talks about some personal stuff that no one wants to hear instead of teaching
He's fairly decent at teaching, open for questions, but boring. In Winter, each exam was split into two parts with a 30 min time limit. This made it very hard and there were some students who could not finish their tests. However, me thinking this class was ok, he hit us with a final that had material that we didn't cover. I dropped like 10% A -> B
Took it for Summer 2023 and sometimes, the lectures can be unmotivated due to his teaching style. Work on HW problems since it will reflect on weekly tests. He's a nice person and likes to socialize other people.
1. He never replies to any of the canvas messages (sent 6 canvas messages, and none of them were replied) 2. No study guides for tests and finals 3. His canvas due dates were often wrong 4. Always late on grading (the first test wasn't graded until almost a month passed) 5. No set office hours (Mostly ditches on office hours that he promised)
The most incompetent math professor i ever took. His previous reviews were good enough warnings but due to LACC's lack of facilities this was the only Math-275 class available.Wastes lots of time talking about his dog and away from the screen,Terrible testing system,Questions differ from what you learn in class and Homework.FIND ANOTHER CLASS!
He is a physicist with real world experience. Gives good lectures. He is soft spoken & patient.I used tutoring videos online and studied off of homework problems w/ solutions offered at the beginning of the semester. He was available for tutoring once a week for most of the semester to explain homework questions.Time and dedication is key.
Had to learn from YouTube videos, did not grade the labs until the end of the semester.
Professor can be boring and goes off on tangents, but the class is manageable if you stay on top of the homework. unstuckstudy was a lifesaver for prepping for the tests - definitely recommend it along with the free textbook.
Math-211X Run.
Please avoid taking his class at all costs. Lectures are full of rants that have nothing to do with Physics, tests heavy, and does not explain lecture material to understand in-depth, complicated concepts. For labs, there's no explanation on his end, just hope you understand it enough to try it. I wish I could rate lower than one star.
Negative: * Constantly goes on diatribes about random topics in the lecture * Incessant about cheating, to the point that it hurts regular students * Canvas due dates are wrong half of the time; ask questions during lecture Positive: * Tests are fairly easy, though the timing is strict * Textbook purchase is not required * Homework is organized
Negative: Constantly goes on diatribes about random topics in the lecture. Incessant about cheating, to the point that it hurts regular students. Canvas due dates are wrong half of the time (ask questions during lecture). Positive: Tests are fairly easy, though the timing is strict. Textbook purchase is not required. Homework is organized
i wish i could give him a 0. Absolute nightmare class. He never provides us all the formulas you need for the test properly and extremely sucks at explaining the material. His mind is all over the place most of the time. When we speak up about how he didn't include the formulas properly, he responded" You should've just asked during the test"
He's just a bad Professor would not recommend to take his class.
