i would rather stick a hot poker in my ear
i have an a in his class so screw all of you
A for the year!
Very hard, but fair! About 75% of the class dropped out
I can't understand him. He talks to fast.
This is a 100 level class taught at a 400 level, u do the math!!!!!!!!!!!!
Best lectures I've heard from a prof. There are only 5 tests to determine grade.
I pity who gets him!
if you know the learning objectives you will get an a on the exams.

I was so confused, but stuck with it and got a B...Most of the class disappeared just like he predicted
Do yourself a favor, and drop the class before the first day... he's a real peach... he can't be understood because he mumbles, he doesn't cover the text clearly anyways, and he doesn't have any regard for his students.
Best lectures i have ever heard from any prof. He really knows his stuff and has high expectations. If he talks about a topic be sure you know it thoroughly because it will be on the exam.
Roy is the man. He may seem like an ass but this guy is a damn genious. Not only is he a psychologist, but he is a primatologist and he knows something about pretty much everything. His lectures are awesome. I recommend him to serious students only.
Worst teacher at Penn College. He needs a shrink himself.
Excellent teacher--those who don't like him typically don't do the work. Really knows his stuff and is very approachable. I would take a class taught by him again!
I had him over the summer and I laughed hysterically! They were the best lectures! Most people that didn't like him were the ones who skipped a lot of classes and didn't do the reading. I thought he was awesome!!!
stinks
He needs to be more helpful.
He is a great teacher! I dont care what anyone says!!! His tests are hard but yu have to study...DUH!!!!
Tests are hard, he is hard to understand because he mumbles too much. He is helpful if you see him during office hours. Need to read the book before class so you have some understanding of what he is trying to explain. Good sense of humor.
Awesome teacher -- if you want to learn. MUST study and take notes. He expects you to know the material for tests. (notecards work well for this class.)He is brilliant and knows his stuff. Very approachable!
his class is challenging but he lets you know exactly what to expect for his tests. He will help as much as he can but you have to put alot of effort towards the class, too! must read before class and be well prepared!!
He goes way too fast and doesn't stop to help anyone... he also says "ok" or "know what I mean?" 10 times every 3 mins... I counted for 15 mins one day because I couldn't really understand what he was talkin about... he said "

Very difficult class. The tests are extremely difficult, but he does give you the info you need to study for the tests. He has a very dry sense of humor and is a tad morbid, which is funny. You will need to work your butt off in this class.
Don't take him! He's a bad teacher. Very hard to understand. Tests are extremely hard! Avoid taking him!
This guy is crazy. He gets real entergetic while hes lecturing and when he gets to the good IMPORTANT info he whispers. Actually fought with a student over her oppinon. Tests are impossible even if you study...drop this class if you are not super smart and a psych major
he is a very hard teacher doesnt take time for students tests are very hard
he is a very hard teacher dont take him if you can avoid it!

I don't think he deserves a 2.5 rating.Yes,his class is hard.Yes,he expects us to work hard.Isn,t that why were here?Think of were the world would be today if idiots were ruling the world(especially our hospitals)scary. This is coming from a student who never had to strugle until his class. I gvuA+
He's very intelligent, a bit of sarcastic, dry humor. He does tell you up front that his class is not a cakewalk. Yes you have to study and read the book. If you do, you'll be fine. He's a great teacher, but STUDY!!
People are way too hard on him. The guy knows what he's talking about, and he does a great job getting his point across. I wasn't looking forward to taking his class when I started, but by the time I was finished I kind of liked it. Pay attention, do the reading, and you'll get an A.
He is a very good teacher and his classes and tests aren't hard.

Dr. Fontain is not as bad as people say he is. I think that if you do the work and study you will get a good grade. This is not a class that you can sleep through. You will know your stuff after having his class. I like him and I think he is very fair. He gives you a list of objectives to study from so you will know what is going to be on his tests
Dr. Fontaine's class is no walk in the park, but he lets you know what is going to be on the tests. You really have to work for grades in his class, isn't that how you learn. He does have a dry morbid sense of humor, but i think it helps get his point across.
Although I had a really hard time swallowing what Roy had to say a lot of the time, he is a very knowlegeable man(not saying that I agree w/ him though) and he does give you the materials you need to succeed in his classroom. Start studying the BOLD objectives from the VERY BEGINNING of the semester(flash cards or something). That will help.
You need to study but he gives you the info to study. He is very knowledgable of his field and interesting. No surprises in his class and he is organized. You just gotta do your work as a student!I enjoyed his class.
A lot of people told me he was the hardest professor on campus, but he gives you a list of everything on the tests!! There's a reason he hands out the objectives, people! Study them!
Dude is giving you EXACTLY what you need to know on each test. If you can answer the questions on the objectives sheets, you can pass tests easily. You don't even need to take lecture notes. The book is interesting and an easy read. There is no reason why anyone can't pass this class.
Fontaine is intelligent. He actually thinks about the subject, outside the box, personal reasearch, interesting. I loved his class.
I switched to his class from another class, and started out dreading it. The first day I was like wow I'm so screwed. I have B right now on my way to an A. Class is easy as pie if you study the book and use the website with the book. SO EASY! Just gotta study the book! He's also got some funny sarcastic remarks in class to keep you awake.
Mr. Fontaine is a pretty good teacher, he gives you handouts like 3 weeks before an exam and everything that is on the handout will be on the exam, nothing more, if you read the chapters and and know every question inside and out then you will get a good grade, his questions are very straight foward, he is also a really nice guy.
Very hard to understand. Show up for class and you will get bonus points. He gives five tests and those will be your only grades. He does not give any paperwork, you have reading assignments every night. He will give a learning objectives sheet for the test which is still hard to understand. All tests are multiple choice w.essays
Hard, Hard teacher! Doesnt care if you pass or fail even if youre doing the work. Doesnt take effort into consideration at all. Talks loud one minute then whispers the next. Dont take him!
Awesome guy! Take him if you get the chance. Of course he doesn't care if you pass or fail, how many teachers do? He actually has a large D scale, he doesn't want people to take his class twice. So you might actually be better off here anyway.
I loved this class. I learned more in Dr. Fontaine's class than in any other I've taken! Yes, you have to work hard, but it is worth it. Since I finished PSY 111, I miss it very much!
VERY hard teacher. Hiss class is very interesting I he trys to be as helpfull as possible but he makes things much more difficult then they have to be. He gives you a list of learning objectives whicha re to be answered in essay form, but they are sooo difficult to understand. You will need your book A LOT in this class!
Fontaine's lectures are very interesting, although they don't help you with the tests. You MUST read the textbook or you will fail the tests. Tests are hard. You get a list of like 30 essay questions a few weeks before the test. Then he picks 3 for the test, and you must answer at least 2. Hard questions, he wants you to make them long. He's Good
Honestly, I like this man. He knows his stuff and has very interesting topics. In my opinion, if you do the objectives he gives you and read the book like you should, you'll pass. The only problem is YOU CANNOT HEAR HIM! Hes nice and he is a pretty good looking older man. Take him if you want but you have to study HARD. Its a passable class.
Nice guy, however while teaching gets side-tracked easily and speaks unclearly.
Many people dislike him, but I honestly learned alot from him. However, in order to get good grades on the tests, you must read the book and undestand his objectives. You cant just go to class and expect his lectures to relate to the exams.
DO THE OBJECTIVES!!! One girl in my class would go up to fontaine during his office hours and make sure that her objectives were all correct. If you do that you're guarenteed an A on the exam because the objectives is exactly the exam -just reworded into either multiple choice or essay format. hes a good guy!If he knows that your tryin he'll pass u
Does not speak clearly or loud. Hard to understand. Tough assignments.
He's definitely difficult to understand. SOC 113 is excrutiatingly boring, but his SOC 243 was very interesting. He's got a sick sense of humor. Being interested in the material is the key to doing well in his classes. Don't take his courses if you don't have an interest in them.
horrible teaching method. 5 tests and a final
Awesome teacher, is really interested in pysch! Of course you have to read the book! Its colege!Time to grow up! In the real world you dont get 15 tests and then they get rid of your lowest 5. REALITY CHECK PEOPLE!! Good professor if you put effort into college and wanting to succeed in the real world!!
Hard teacher, he doesnt actually teach, just tells stories. Told the class they werent passing because its their first semester and they didnt do good on the SATS, funny, not my first semester and I did well on the sats! Very hard, not clear, felt like I was in a 300 class, not a 100. Has a very sick sense of humor, all he does it tells stories.
he's a really good teacher, he's just really quiet so pick a seat really close to the front of the room or you're not going to be able to hear anything.
He knows his stuff and is very enthusiastic about it. If you're lazy and don't like to do work, don't take him because his learning objectives are key to getting a good grade on the test. I would also suggest "supplimental instruction" for some extra clarity on the material. Sit in the front because he talks rather quiet and fast.
What a great guy. Very hard class though. Very intelligent and very funny. Makes the long class go by quickly. Learn the learning objectives he gives you and you wont have a problem. It was a pleasure to have him.
least favorite class
Horrible teacher. He likes to tell sick stories. He likes to smell girls menstrual periods. Don't take HIM!
this guy was seriously one of the worst pofessers that i have ever had. i cant understand him when he speaks and he talks about the most useless things. if you get scheduled with him i would suggest that you drop his class and get a better professer because you will not learn anything at all.
defiantly hard teacher, cant understand a word he says either. talks about anal sex and lab rats all the time. sometimes he will shout at you, then he will whisper. cant stand him. class started out with 30 people, now we have 5. and its only the 6th week of class
ODD! All he does for the entire class is tell stories. I completely tuned him out and spent the class answering all of his objectives, and I got an A (not easily). Tests are multiple choice and essay. Attendance isn't mandatory, but he gives extra credit for going. Don't waste your time taking notes on what he's saying. MEMORIZE THE OBJECTIVES!!!!
This is my second semester and my second with fontaine had him for 111 too. He is a very good teacher just do the learning objectives. I do ok and have never read the book except to look up objectives. His humor is sick and twisted. Just really learn the objectives and you will do great. So worth taking!
Memorize the objectives (all 14,000 words worth). I have never gotten a grade below and A in college yet, but this class I worked my butt off to come out with a C. All memorization of the learning objectives. If you are a self taught individual you will do great. If you need a teacher to lecture for you to understand then find a different professor
Very good instructor. He really knows the information well, and gives detailed lectures on each of the learning objectives So worth taking you can really learn alot from him but not an easy A
This guy is hilarious!! You have to try in his class but its worth taking if you want to fully grasp the subject.
Horrible teacher, only class i got below a B in, in my Entire Life, you have to read the book needless to say & the chapters are very long!. he doesnt teach anything in class just tells nasty "jokes" and says ridiculous things. Dont ever reccomend to my worst enemy in the world!!
awesome I have had him for several classes while I was working on my Psychology minor. Now I am working on a soc minor and I sought out his classes. To do well in his class YOU HAVE TO DO THE WORK. This is college people so expect to be accountable for your grade.
extremely hard class. he basically gives you objective questions that you use to study for the test. he pretty much leaves everything up to you and spends most of the lectures talking about pointless things. attendance isn't mandatory but you get extra points the more classes you attend. personally i would recommend switching professors!!
Intelligent and good sense of humor. It annoys me that ppl make comments that he is gross. If you are immature, do not take the class! To get an A, read every chapter. Dr. Fontaine is a nice man!!!
Dr. Fontaine knows his stuff!Always willing to help if needed. Yes, he does say "aahh" a lot, but there is no reason to critize him for that. He is smart and directs his point across. Everyone has their flaws and he's an older gentleman, give him a break!Class is a lot of work, but just read a few pages a day. Do not wait last min to read.
If you are good at learning on your own you'll be fine if not switch professors. This class is alot of work and studying! tests are a little confusing just really study and go to the supplemental class! good luck!
Great professor with interesting stories. I highly recommend him if you are a psych major because his course will really test your knowledge. You must work to earn an A. Plenty of reading; no way to cut corners here because you will fail. If you are lazy, don't even think about this course.
just do all the reading and answer all questions on his review sheets and youll be just fine :)
Almost pure lecturer. Doesn't cover everything in class, but you're still rseponsible for everything. The text book was one of the most disorganized and incomprehensible excuses for information I've ever seen. I looked everything up on the net and got done a lot faster. You absolutely must do the review sheet to have a chance at passing.
Very knowledgeable man, but not a very good professor. He tends to ramble on in class and not really go over what's being taught. He gives you the questions you'll need to know for the test and you basically have to read the book and teach it to yourself. The only grades he does are tests so if you bomb one you can't really recover from it.
Pretty good teacher, but rambles on and you lose focus. Test based course. He gives you objectives and if you write down the answers and study them before test you get an easy A. Did I mention he gives 5% on overall grade if ou miss 2 days or less?(:
change class if you cant to pass
I really enjoy this class, i work hard for my grade and attend SI for work sheets. Everything on the objectives paper is on the test. If you know all the answers (27 questions) you have an easy A-B in this class. If you dont like lecture or working on your own for answers this really isnt the best class for you. BUT he will always help if asked.
WORST TEACHER EVER. Change teachers if you want to pass.
He is a difficult teacher. If you are a self learner then you will be fine because the lectures teach you nothing. The class is graded on Exams. There are 5 with 35 multiple choice questions and 2 essays. You end up reading the whole book by the time the class is over too.
Dr. Fontaine is a very well around man. Hes very funny and witty likes to ramble and stutters. But overall hes an amazing professor and very knowledgable. HE ROCKS!!
The absolute worst professor I've ever had, his lectures have nothing to do with the exams!
He is a terrible professor, he has some good jokes sometimes and that is all. Class is graded only on tests, which are very tough. AVOID HIS CLASS!!!!!
He is a terrible teacher! All you do is take tests, no other work to earn a good grade. Tests are very difficult, be prepared to study all the time.
Fontaine is a nice guy but a horrible professor. If you are a self learner you'll pass this course easily. There are no assignments in his class. There's 5 exams and 1 final. That's all! He rambles during lectures & doesn't teach. You read the entire textbook throughout his course. If you take this class go to the Supplemental Instruction meetings!
worst professor I have had by far. If you're good at teaching yourself then you will be fine. By the end of the semester I had read the entire book because he does not teach at all. There is no assignments or quizzes. Just five tests and a final. He rambles the entire class period and does not teach at all.
This is the saddest excuse for a class. You can't understand half of what Fontaine says and nothing he says that you can understand has to do with the class or the book. His tests are so difficult! He has essays on them and grades them and I quote "BASED ON THE WORDS HE IS LOOKING FOR" so you could write what the book says and get half off.
Dr. Fontaine was a really nice and funny guy, but if you need to take this course for a major course then DO NOT take him, it is all out of the book and the stuff he says in class does not really pertain to what you have read. My highest test grade was a 70, (c) and he doubles the highest test grade which is how I passed.
very nice man. tells interesting stories during class, but most things are entirely self taught. tests are passable, but you have to work hard for your grade. dont take him if you are looking for an easy a.
Not too terrible. The class is most definitely passable. He does make you use your textbook a lot. The supplemental instructions help out tremendously.. I would consider going!
Very knowledgable about the subject matter with good real life examples. All lecture with little homework. Tends to ramble a bit but was over all a decent class.
If you can learn everything yourself he is the guy you want. Only thing he grades on is tests so if you don't do well on the tests your going to be taking the class again.
HORRIBLE! He sits up front and mumbles, only grades on tests and doesn't answer questions. Plan on teaching your self from the book if you take him!
He is a tough grader but not impossible. You write alot of essays but they are only 250 words. He gives you what to study for the exams and if you do the readings the pop quizzes are easy. Wiley plus helps alot. He lectures with the light off so drink your caffein or take this class when you are most likely going to stay awake. I enjoyed this class
Fontaine makes it very clear what you will be tested on if you visit Plato everyday and print the Key Terms list. There is also an optional Supplemental Instruction to attend once a week for an hour where you get Chapter worksheets and answers. As long as you read your notes before class, always attend & give effort a B is manageable.
Difficult time following his lectures, pretty much you have to teach yourself for this class. Other than participation points, class seems pretty much useless to go to. Gives out a lot of pop quizzes.
I enjoy Dr. Fontaine immensely. He's very intelligent & his lectures are interesting. There is assigned reading for every class along with chapter key terms to learn. He assigns essays directly related to the upcoming test which allows you to grasp the concepts better. He loves pop quizzes-keeps you on your toes. Studying is a necessity!
WORST PROFESSOR! He is a very nice man, but does not know how to teach. He does not grade right at all. He does not give you the right materials to study. He also mumbles when he gives lectures so you cant understand a word he says. I would advise anyone not to take him.
Dr. Fontaine is a great teacher. He posts power points and key terms on plato every week to follow during lecture. His exams are multiple choice. He advises that you go to the SI (supplemental instruction) every week to gather those materials. The woman in charge of that is great as well. She hands out chapter packets that really help for exams.
He talks very fast and has some weird talking habits, but overall he's a great professor. Pay attention, do your homework & study vocab words and you'll do fine!!
He has tons of pop quizzes and short 5 point essays. They almost always piggyback each other, so expect a pop quiz the class before you turn in a paper. He is pretty funny, but he has long lectures that seem like forever.
Expect a weekly pop quiz and short essay, but neither are very difficult. His tests can be challenging but he gives you all of the terms you need to study way in advance and that's all you need to study for the exams. If you can sit up front because he can be hard to hear but he is very nice and pretty entertaining.
Nice guy but all around awful teacher. He mumbles, studders constantly and will randomly yell just for the heck of it. Never clear on what kind of questions will be on the test, is not willing to give extra help. Be prepared to just sit in class and listen to him ramble while wondering where your thousands of dollars are going.
Fontaines class is straight and to the point. Gives great lectures and is very knowledgable. Study key terms, read the book, and do the essays and youll get an A.
Dr. Fontaine is a great professor that really cares about his students. He loves what he does, you can tell from his lectures. His class was my favorite by far!!
He's a good teacher. I have to say, I'm probably the worst student he has. I don't really show up, most of the time I am late, however I have been keeping up with the book on my own and have been doing well. Every class period is a lecture, he does give "pop" quizzes but if you keep up with the readings you shouldn't have a problem.
Oh my gosh this guy is hysterical! All his classes are lectures but man does this guy know his stuff! The way he talks and randomly yells is very humorous. The best are the things he says he does tend to talk low though so sit up front for the show
Great prof, but he can mumble, so sit as close to front as you can. Has weekly 1 page papers that are great at reinforcing concepts/applying them to the real world. Breaks down each chapt. into 2 or 3 classes & posts ppts, so print them out before class (3 slides/page) & use them to take notes on what he says. Final essays are written out of class.
Professor Fontaine tends to get off topic very easily, so it is hard to stay focused. I highly recommend going to SI with Deb. All of the exams are on keywords, and Deb hands out packets with all the keywords.
Gives you a paper with 70+ terms and expects you to know the definition and an example of each term for the test. The tests are super tricky and make you second guess yourself. Also, there is about 2 pop quizzes every week worth only 5 points, but they add up. You also get a paper to write due every week.
if you dont like random yelling or banging on things, Fontaine is not for you! keeps class interesting and funny, but the text book is heavily relied on for your success in the class and tests. take good notes!! pop quizzes are graded out of 5 questions/points, very common sense in all his teachings.
As long as you show up to class, do your essays that are assigned on Plato and look over notes before class, you should be fine. I highly recommend taking notes on your own time, and just listen during class. Also, the day an essay is due, youll most likely have a pop quiz. Tests are a little on the harder side, but not impossible.
Overall it was somewhat of an easy class. When he gives lectures you cant understand a thing he says, although he is very funny at points. He is an easy grader, but you pretty much have to read the text book and teach yourself. The final is the easiest part of this class.
Read the book, do his study guides and you'll be fine. I took three classes with him and I did fine as long as I used my study guides. He's a little out there but that's honestly what kept me interested and invested in his courses. I wish I wasn't done with psych classes, he's the best.
He never answers emails until after the date you need him to. He wont help you on anything even if you go to his office hours. He sucks never taking him again.
The course should be challenging but not as challenging as he makes it. He is never clear on what to study for exams and during lectures he goes off on tangents about things unrelated. I do not recommend.
Hes a super funny guy. He does get off topic but its actually interesting. Theres a short essay due every 2 weeks. He doesnt grade hard so its usually an easy 100%. The tests are easy if you study. If youre failing, do the supplemental psych. They tell you whats on the tests and what to study for. Only study the KT and youll pass.
He was a bad professor. In class he never talked about anything that had to do with our lessons. He never was clear on any work we had to do and our exams. Dont offer extra credit and dont let people know their grades.
Prof Fontaine is the strangest teach I've ever had. He goes off on pointless tangents, will yell out of nowhere, slams his hands on the desk. He gives easy 5 point essays, but the textbook is your real teacher. It felt pointless to show up to class except for the attendance points. Know key vocab he gives, READ THE TEXT!!, teach yourself basically!
Doesn't post grades, Hard to pay attention. If you read the book and study key terms you will pass.
