nicest man, will do anything to cut you a break
Nice professor, will go out of his way to help you! Definately recommend!
He's very nice and helpful but often gets off task in class and wastes time
Much more organized and helpful than Casiple.
Very helpful and nice, he does tend to get off track sometimes though!
rambles on about NOTHING IMPORTANT!! SO BORING!!
Hillarious guy! want to know about h-burg? take this one! always ready to he
very helpful teacher...you can tell he really cares about his students
always helps, rambles a lot, but I recommend him
A bit scatterbrained, but helpful and easy overall. just make sure you keep up.
rambles, never teaches, tests ridiculous, not helpful
No Comments
moves a little slower than casiple, gives a lot of hw and checks it!
HATED THIS CLASS! He just talks about agrilculture!!! LEARN NOTHING!
rambles...many chicken stories; likes to laugh at himself--not funny at all
grades all the homework, quizzes are tricky as well as tests
learned nothing in this class; He gets off topic to much & talks about nothing
unclear when explaining things, lots of homework, lots of quizzes, lots of pain
Rambles alot, not a good stats teacher, he know more about farms than stats
This guy is kinda hard, but he is always there to help, will do anything he can
worst teacher ever. talks about farms all class and then gives hw
Tells random stories but will help you get grade you want if you ask for help
No Comments
you basically teach yourself ...nice and helpful if you seek him out-do the hw
ok, i think this guy is very entertaining, at least he made the class interestin
HORRIBLE TEACHER!!!! can't teach! lots of unnecessary work and stupid quizes! DO NOT TAKE HIM unless you want to learn about farming and anything else not related to stats.
easy class if you seek his help; often goes off topic, but makes it more interesting; quizzes can be hard, option on notebook OR quizzes
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! he teaches about health related topics, and then assigns homework! basically, you have to teach yourself. the quizes are pointless, yet the whole 2 tests arent that bad
He is a nice man, but his teaching is a bit confusing. He assigns readings in the text..a math text, mind you. The class is verrrrry boring!
Nice man, Terrible teacher. class is extremely boring, tests don't always cover material covered in class. don't take this guy.
Unclear; gets off topic; difficult exams; VERY BORING; lots of homework & quizes. Do ALL the homework or and you will do alright; lets you use notecards on exams
No Comments
Miserable, stupid man, do not take his class. Good class to take if you want to know about anything that is not statistics. I had to withdrawl since all of my grades were Fs.
worst teacher ever!!! 2nd test...less than half the students passed...some grades even in 20's on the test!!! take him if you want to fail
doesn't teach very well, you have to read the book to do well, keep up w/ the reading and homework, he laughs at himself a lot
rambles about farm stories won't cover everything that's on exams, gives unclear answers, when he says he'll let you out early he means 2 or 3 minutes, that's the type of guy you're dealing with
he gets soooo off topic and doesnt teach. allows notecards on tests and they arent that bad b/c he is kinda dumb and makes his tests dumb...take him if you dont mind teaching yourself and learning NOTHING
CAN'T TEACH! Go to the stat. lab in burruss for Mr. Cunningham if you need help. You'll probably fail the tests because he is not helpful at all. Boring, too. Try not to get him- very frusterating.
Not a terrible class. He is not a great teacher but he tries and his tests are not too hard. It can be frusturating but he is at least nice and tries to help as best he can.
He's a very nice old man. Gives you no help on info on tests, only 10 questions. Lots of material, i didnt like it at all.
not very helpful. Bad teacher, too many pointless stories. If you dont mind an F then by all means take his class.
If you don't have to take a class with him, DON'T. i've never been so bored in my life during his class, he talks about everything BUT statistics. His tests aren't too hard, but you basically have to teach yourself everything.
he does not teach stats at all but rambles about everything else under the sun and then laughs at his "jokes" frequently. anything you learn from this class will be what you teach yourself, so if you have to take it with him, save your $$!
He's awful! he rambles on and on and on...and he makes no sense! He laughs at his own jokes, and doesn't explain anything well. It's easy if you have a stat course in high school, but otherwise it's hard to keep up, since he doesn't explain anything.
Don't take him!. Ive never taken stats before and I must for my major. I have learned nothing, seriously. He doesn't teach, he rambles and laughs at himself. Stay away from him!!
i've never hated a teacher so much before. math was my best subject until this guy came along. when i asked him for help on a test, he pretty much told me to hope i was luckier next time and then laughed at himself. most boring person ive ever met
A nice, adorable old man...but likes to hear himself ramble on about random tangents and laughs at his own jokes. Doesn't teach material...students learn strictly from the book and classmates.
I had to drop this class because this guy was so unhelpful. The quizzes are easy...but the test isn't. If you want to teach yourself everything from the book, then take this guy. If you actually want to learn something in class...don't.
worst teacher ever, does not teach at ALL and soo boring. go for it, if you want to teach yourself everything.
well woopity doo! DO NOT get this teacher. unclear, rambles on about everything but stats, i didnt take this course in high school, so getting this teacher didnt help, had to drop the class
Nothing to even say, just don't take this class with him...
He's a nice, sweet old man who shouldn't be teaching. He's just too incompetent
He is a nice old man but awful teacher, the class test average is like a 50, will help you if you need it. Be prepared to teach yourself
hes a very nice old man, but horrible teacher. class average on last test was a 50. everyone fails, and he doesnt really care. dont take him unless you have a knowledge of stats before or want to teach yourself everything
all he does is laugh at himself, if you havent taken this course before i would TAKE ANOTHER TEACHER, 12 quizzes attendence and tests..average is low, yet it is possible to get an A if you understand statistics
he laughs at his own jokes, sweet old man but can't teach. very unclear and doesn't know how to explain problems, don't take this class... if you want to repeat it.
very very nice man. had to drop class due to unteaching. yea thats right: UNTEACHING. maybe youll have a chance if you had stats in highschool.
hello santa! nice man who laughs at himself a lot but cannot teach.
If you take this class be prepared to teach yourself. There are "Pop" quizzes once a week that are only two questions, and are fairly easy. Tests are really hard and long but he says he curves the grades if everyone does bad.
GET OUT NOW!
220, shouldn't be as hard as he makes it. tells stories 75% of class crams 100% of material into 25% of time (no, i'm not kidding) popquizes. does little to teach you, if you don't learn on your own you won't learn at all with heatwole
11 pop quizzes (counts as attendance) lowest is dropped; 3 tests only out of 70 though not 100, so a 50 isn't that bad!, curves tests at end of year based on amount of homework u did, i.e. u need to do homework to get an easy grade booster, i got an A
HE CANNOT TEACH AND DOES NOT CARE. He says that he curves the grades at the end possibly, however I wouldn't rely on his numbers..haha..teach yourself and you'll be straight otherwise fail
Unless you plan on teaching yourself the course, find another teacher. The tests are fairly easy though, but he gives a few confusing quizzes. He laughs at his own stupid jokes and tells the most random pointless stories. Try and find another teacher!
I think people at JMU are just stupid with math. We spent a 1/3 of the semester going over means and half the class didnt get it. Anyway, Heatwole is a nice guy, and looks just like santa claus. Tells crazy stories and laughs at completely random points.
Very very nice guy, but you will have to teach yourself in this class!! He doesn't know how to use a calculator, so you'll do everything the long way! If your already good in stats, then take it, if not, get someone else
Excellent professor who knows his material. He expects you to have read before coming in to class; if you do not then you will be lost. Sometimes over-simplifies, but -if the other ratings are any indication- maybe not enough for some people.
for fear of death from intense boredom, do not take! going to class is pointless, but there are 11 (very easy) quizzes so that might be a reason to go. i did my homework in class...it was definitely a better use of my time and i learned more from it.
Really nice guy, looks like santa. Doesn 't teach too much in class, but def. go to his office hours. Make sure u do your homework; i would go to his office once a week and ask questions on hw problems i didn't understand.
He tries to be funny but hes not most of the time. It is an easy subject but his final exam is crazy. You need to know your stuff when he explains but DO NOT need extra time spent outside. Oh and go ask him Q's cuz he'll hint at whats on the test
Nice guy, but not a very good teacher. Talks mostly about farming. Looks like Santa Claus.
Very nice man, always has a story about something, tests are somewhat tricky but definitely not hard. A bit of a challenge but a nice guy!
He is a nice enough guy, he will help you go over homework in class but thats all, expect to teach yourself the course and only use him when you have problems. Attendance is encouraged by quizes and when he takes names down. Tests are very tricky sometimes, he thinks we all know as much as he does
One of the nicest guys I have ever met in my life. He will allow you to make up quizzes that you miss, but attendance is encouraged, althought not mandatory. He readily accepts questions, and is genuinely interested in his students learning the material.
This guy is outstanding! He teaches out of the book, but all he really does is tell farming stories. I think you'll hear him say that he worked for the National Institute of Health Statistics 3 or 4 times a class. It's a very easy class, and very fair. He's nice, and approachable! Take him!!!
I've NEVER had a hard time with math until this class. You must be able to teach yourself the material since he just rambles about whatever is on his mind. Tests aren't too bad, but there's not really a point in ever going to class. He is a really nice guy though, and eerily resembles Santa.
hes very nice and always has a farming story to tell during class that takes up time. he teaches straight from the book, although to be honest he does exactly teach. tests are tricky and hard. DO NOT TAKE HIM!
Santa Clause (Heatwole) is real nice. This class isn't the easiest though. He teaches straight from the book, so if you're good at learning math through convoluted wording then this class and the book is for you. Tests aren't too bad but I definitely recommend going to his office hours weekly.
not a hard class, im decent at math but its definitely not a subject i like and i am getting a low A or high B in it... nice man, tells a lot of pointless stories and laughs at himself (thats pretty funny), i recommend him
The class isn't the best - it's kind of boring and he doesn't really cover the material that well. He's very into telling stories that might in some convoluted way relate to the class. But, he's incredibly understanding, generous and helpful. Talk to him during office hours and study hard!
you have to teach yourself a lot! teaches straight from the book..DO the hw & read the book b/c it does help! he is a nice person & very helpful if you go to office hours..tells many stories that are B-O-R-I-N-G and he laughs at himself..tests are hard but can have notecard w/ notes that helps some
Bad class. As a teacher he just doesn't cut it. I took this class in high school last year and I still only managed to get a C in the class.unclear in teaching, his tests are hard and confusing and he never actually teaches you the material. If i hadn't had my HS stats background I would have failed
Hes a real cool guy, and compared to all of the other statistic teachers at jmu, hes the best your going to find, look into all of the other teachers ratings, its an easy enough class, and hes very approachable
HORRIBLE teacher, possibly the worst I've ever had! He does not teach but maybe 20 minutes of every hour, and spends the rest of the time either counting cars out the window or going over homework on the overhead (and his handwriting is not exactly legible). This man should STOP TEACHING.
wow, he doesnt teach and i've taught myself material before tests and studied for hours and felt very prepared for all tests but never broke a C...he's helpful if you go to office hours but thats about it
Oh man, this man shouldn't teach... He just rambles on about random things and doesn't do a very good job at explaining things. He's nice, but he fails at teaching. No matter how much I study I couldn't break a C! He's not worth taking...
Prof. Heatwole is not a bad teacher despite what everyone else is saying. At times he's confusing, but that why there is homework, and even though its optional, DO IT! Office hours help out a lot. I def. encourage going there whenever possible, and don't get behind on the HW its hard to catch up.
oh roy .............he trys to be funny but isnt he trys to help you and explain but cant basically hes worthless....just laugh at his jokes. be prepared to teach yourself. switch if you can.
Ok whiners, the only reason I only got a C in this class is because I was a lazy slacker. I did NONE of the homework and skipped 50% of the classes. It's not that hard and he isn't a bad teacher. He isn't going to give a free A but if you talk to him, he REALLY helps you out!!
RUN!!! Unless you are some kinda genius in stat, I am awesome at math and still got a B in the class. He doesnt know how to teach, although he is a nice guy. His tests are impossible to get higher than a B- on.....RUN
i liked him...he helps if you go in, his tests arn't that hard and he's real nice. he gets off subject a lot and tells stories
He is a very nice man but a HORRIBLE teacher! He is hard to follow and understand in class and he beats around the bush when you ask questions. His test are very hard and he grades even harder. I would not recommend this professor!
He's so funny. He's an elderly man, but he makes jokes and laughs at them so it's a fun class.
Horrible professor. Does not go over material and does not answer questions. His exams are hard and he grades even harder. He's lazy when it comes to explaining things. If you go to class you will here more about his life then math. You basically have to learn everything on your own. Steer clear of this guy!
He is a sweet man, who is always cracking jokes, that only he'll laugh at. But, as for his teaching... he spends more time on his life then on Statistics, his tests are hard and long, and he never quite gets around to teaching the material. Good luck with him, becuase you will be struggling in Stats! Sorry...
Professor Heatwole is the nicest man in the world. If you go into his office hours and do the homework he will take care of you, its a little confusing but if you put forth the effort you should be fine
He does not know how to teach effectively. He is willing to help you, but there is only so much of his help you can get and it is not always effective. His teaching is not teaching...he reads out of the book and uses the examples in the book. I didn't learn anything!
Took 6 yrs of hschool math (algI, algII, geom, pre-calc, calc AB & AP stat), got an A in my AP stat & a 3 on the AP exam (which isn't bad).Even w/a 95% quiz avg I still ended up with a B in the class. His tests are crazy, he's picky about written answers, and his teaching is horrible. If I hadn't taken stat in high school I wouldve failed.DONT TAKE
i learned more about statistics in high school. quizzes are a waste of time, tests are difficult, sporadically collects homework for grading.
He is a nice man and is very helpful but he is not the best teacher. his quizzes are pretty easy but his tests are not. i personally hated the class. i would advise looking for another professor.
This man is ridiculous....he can not teach....but he can tell a good story about milking cows.....goes over homework questions and then rambles on about his awful life as Santa Claus.....you won't learn anything....please don't take him
only take this class ifyou have taken stats before. you basically have to teach yourself from the book because he doesnt really teach anything. if you have questions he'll answer them, but you still have to teach yourself.
do not take this class! he does not teach anything related to statistics except the bold words out of the book...you will live in wilson, has a horrible passing rate...the only thing you will learn from this class is his life story, which you will hear over and over again everyday
Basically, I agree with the rest of the ratings. I do not recomend this fellow. But I've heard that all the GenEd math teachers are pretty awful, either they are too foreign (I mean that in the least offensive way possible), or they are just old (such as our dear friend Dr. Heatwole). He seems like a great guy to kick back with, but this is school.
One may not want to take this review too seriously, but I did not like this class at all for two reasons: one, I hate math; two, the professor is terrible; three, the tests were uber-hard. See, you can see how poor my math skills are just from this rating!
Although he speaks English, this class is pretty self-taught. Unless you can pick up math concepts really quickly and with very little instructions involved, avoid this class!! He goes off on tangents, and before you know it class is over and we have not learned a darn thing. You have a pop quiz once a week. AVOID!
Maybe he means well, but this guy is a horrible teacher. He certainly knows stats but he cannot convey that knowledge to save his life. He will monopolize class time with crazy stories about everything but information you need to know. If you are a math wiz or a hot girl maybe you could survive, otherwise AVOID THIS GUY AT ALL COSTS!
Professor Heatwole is the nicest man you will ever meet. He has a pop quiz once a week, but if you read you should be fine. He also collects homework and it boosts your grade. His tests were resonable. If you came on one of the days before the holidays he took down your name and would take that into consideration with your grade.
if you have a choice, dont take him. he tells some really random stories right in the middle of his lectures that have nothing to do with stats, and his lectures arent very clear. if you havent already taken some kind of stats class you'll probably have trouble with him.
If you can teach yourself or go to the math center you'll be fine. His tests problems are always from homework- so if you go over all the h/w problems, youll be fine. The true/false and multiple choice are the hardest part- confusing. Quizzes in class but not mandatory attendance, goes off on tangents in class talkin about random things ALL the tim
DO NOT GET THIS MAN. He is the worst professor at JMU, hands down. He loves to talk and ramble about everything besides math during class, but will flunk you if you do not know the topic you were supposed to have learned. RUN AWAY.
Real nice guy, but boring. Teaches straight out of the book. Tests are made from homework problems. If you do your homework, the tests will be fine. You're allowed cheat sheets. Nice guy, always answers questions. Again, just do your homework and ask questions and you will do fine.
DO NOT TAKE THIS MAN. If you want to know his life story be my guest, if not then don't bother. It is dreadful class and he knows nothing. Teaches right from the book and does not show you how to do the problems in class. Good luck if you have him, I recommend dropping, before it's too late.
I did well in calculus and took this as a major requirement, and ended up dropping. He doesn't teach - and once, when someone asked a question about the homework he told the student to go to the Math Resource Center. Beyond boring, talks about nothing all period. Take another professor or be prepared to waste your time.
He's a really nice/sweet guy, but he doesn't teach at all. He never checks your homework problems, but it's a good idea to do them because thats where a few test questions come from. He tries to answer questions, but just ends up confusing you more.
He wasted too much class time when I took him. Talking about the NCAA Final Four for 15 minutes doesn't help you learn the material. The only way to do well in this class is to teach yourself the material and go to his office hours, a lot. He's a terrible professor.
This class is easy if you do the homework. You do have to teach yourself a lot of the material, but if you go to office hours, he is happy to help you out. If you go to class, do the homework, and are willing to teach yourself some of the material, you won't have trouble pulling off an A.
Talks about himself and his smalltown hick life the whole time, and barely taught stats. Picks favorites based on who laughs at his lame jokes. Worst professor I have ever had. Do NOT take his class
Stay away from any courses he teaches. He's a nice guy, but he feels it's more important to talk about his life than Math. He doesn't even know the material he's trying to teach, and then tests you on this very same stuff that he has no clue how to solve. How do you expect your students to pass the tests when you can't solve the questions yourself
Dont..just dont
Horrible horrible teacher stay away from him, he expects you to do all the work he doesn't know how to clarify anything is obsessed with the computer program that doesnt work on macs he's horrible
I am an A student and I got Ds and Cs on the tests because they were not fair at all. He does, however, curve the tests and gives a lot of extra points at the end of the semester if you've done the homework problems. I ended up with an A because of it. Boring but sometimes bearable. Talks about himself a lot instead of teaching.
he is by far the worst professor or teacher i've ever had at any level. tells endless boring pointless stories and the tests don't really reflect what you go over in class. class is a waist of time that will kill any interest you have in the subject. i felt i got more skipping class and reading the book then going an listening to lecture.
he looks like santa clause and all he does is talk about the old days.i went to class sometimes and didn't pay attention and did none of the homework and ended up gettin a B by teaching myself cause he's no help.he curves the test and gives you a notecard so they're not that bad but class sessions are horrible
Very hard too follow. First test, the "problem solving" unit test is an IQ test. granted, I didn't do much homework, but none of the processes and formulas learned in classes applied to tests. Most boring class I've had freshman year. Lots of curves and points though, I ended up with an A although I had B's and C's on tests.
What ever you do, do not take his class!!!He does nothing but talk and tell stories all that time. He will assign homework problems and expect you to know what to do w/out explaination. Then when he give test he takes off for the stupidest things. If you need this course as a course requirement, take someone else.
laughs at his own jokes, and tells stories if the Amish, and politics. First half of the year did NO teaching, taught myself using the book. Major curves on the test and you can use notecards on ALL the tests...even the final
DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS! That is pretty much all I have to say...He is a really nice guy, but the absolute worst teacher there is. He will mark the whole problem wrong because it your answer is worded differently than that of his book. There are much better stat teachers here at JMU than this guy...actually all of them...
doodled when i went and got the highest grade in the class. he's freaking easy. unless you've never taken stat before, then you might fail if you don't self-teach some things. cause he doesn't like teaching, he likes telling stories.
Heatwole spent more time telling annecdotes about poultry then teaching the students about Statistics. For a none math person having Heatwole could be the worst thing for you.
he's a nice guy, but his teaching skills are horrible. going to class was dreadful. his tests were curved beyond belief, but they were still extremely hard. you have to do all the hw/take notes (bc it helps at the end) and be prepared to self-teach yourself. an
Ok, he isn't the best teacher, and 1/2 the questions I asked he had to take home as "homework" for himself, but this man is great. Extrememly friendly and sweet, the class was really easy. I honestly never dreaded going and I hate math. He put me in a good mood.
All he talked about was poultry and Dr. Phil. Terrible at explaining things. I am not a math person and having him was the worse thing because he did not explain things and then the tests were harder than the homework or were nothing like the homework.
He is a great man, very nice personality but his teaching needs a lot of work. I feel like he already has his ten year and is now just sitting back and telling his students stories instead of teaching. I am not a strong math student at all and going into this class was an absolute mistake. I should've transferred when I was warned early. If you wan
He reminds of a grandfather. He is very sweet and will take the time to talk to you before class. That being said, I would take another professor if I could go back and do it again. It requires a lot of teaching yourself, because he just reads straight from the book. He does however allow you to use a notecard and curves the tests.
I absolutely love Roy. He is the sweetest, most caring man you will ever meet. The class is not at all hard, but if you do have problems he will go above and beyond to help you (he's even willing to come in on Saturdays). I thought it was an easy A, just do the homework. He is amazing :).
He's really nice but when it comes to teaching...not too good. All he does during class is read straight from the book, so basically it's a waste of time because you'll have to spend more time outside of class actually teaching yourself everything you need to know.
Roy Heatwole is the man. Classic grandfather/santa look with his beard and great professor. He may not be the best at explaining things, but more importantly he teaches you about life. Class is so easy if you have any kind of brain. I highly recommend him to anyone wishing to learn from a wise man.
he cant teach. he talks about random things: gambling, his kids, car accidents, etc. you have to teach yourself or go to the math center. DONT TAKE THIS CLASS. and the tests are not relevant to what he talks about in class.
Heatwole cracks me up! He makes tells jokes that make everything awkward, and then it becomes really funny. He's not the best at explaining, so you have to teach most of it to yourself, but he will definitely try to help if you ask. He's sweet. The class is mad easy.
He is such a sweet old man! He makes jokes and talks about life a lot. Not a great teacher. Teach yourself. Tests easy if you just review what's on it.
very nice guy, but class is pointless. you basically teach yourself from the book. he looks like santa and mostly talks about things that do not have anything to do with math. pop quizzes are used a lot and he does attendance sparadically. if you want an easy A, take him.
He's a really nice guy, just a horrible teacher. If you like to teach yourself and learn absolutely nothing from a teacher, then this class is for you. Bottom line: BEWARE!
HORRIBLE!!! I walk out of that class hating him more everyday. However, he curves a lot at the end of the semester. I got high D's on his exams and did the extra credit and ended up with an A.
Heatwole is a nice guy and he definitely knows his stuff. But he's way past his prime in teaching and his class is very difficult. You have to teach yourself which is not easy because the text book used isn't the best at explaining. But keep up with your work or else you'll fall behind, making the class more difficult then it already is.
He is probably the cutest old man that's ever lived. He's so nice, but lots of people take advantage of his niceness. However, you won't learn ANYTHING. If you care about Stats, don't take him, but do if you want a good grade because he curves everything. Do the homework, because it's important to teach yourself, and he gives extracredit at the e
Learned NOTHING in this class. Be prepared to teach yourself!
I didn't learn anything in this class, but if you know how to teach yourself from a textbook i guess you will do well. Takes attendance but i didnt loose points for hardly ever showing up. Hard to follow...i slept so much. If you have to take him, do it later in the day.
If you like teaching yourself from the textbook, take him. Class is boring and he just mumbles and goes through the book. If you are a nursing student or care about your gpa.. take someone else
OMG Horrible horrible teacher. He always get off topic and even when I went to talk to him after class he did not help me at all. You have to teach yourself in that class and if you take him you better plan on failing.
It is an abomination that this man is allowed to teach at a university like JMU. The first day of class he used an example from the local obituary to prove a point about outliers. His class is so boring that I honestly thought I saw the clock move in reverse sometimes. AVOID FOR THE LOVE OF GOD
AVOID THIS CLASS AT ALLLLL COSTS!!! you will end up teaching yourself the information and still be EXTREMELY frustrated and lost on the impossible tests.
Does he collect all of the homework at the end of the semester fr a grade?
People are complaining that he teaches out of the book. Sure, if you're looking for something above and beyond in your stats class, this may not be for you. But if you want a basic class with no confusion, take him. His tests come out of the book as well. He's also a great guy, very funny to be around.
nice man, horrible teacher. wastes most of class time talking about everything unrelated to statistics.
He looks like santa, don't let that fool you. Teaching yourself is the only way you can pass this class. The only good thing about him is the fact he curves test and your overall grade. He is big on rambling.
im sorry, but its an absolute disgrace this guy is allowed to teach at jmu. he probably teaches for free because hes way too old to not be retired already and thats the only reason jmu keeps him. his class is terrible. do not take.
If you have taken stats in high school I would say take him, if not take someone else. He does not teach at all, but if you do the assigned problems you will be fine. All of his test questions come from those problems and an 83 and above is an A!! Overall an awful teacher but if you already know statistics you will be fine.
Everyone says he is a nice guy and he is. But if you want to get a good grade in Stats DO NOT take him. He rambles on all class about useless information that pertains only to his life. He does not teach anything thats not directly from the book. he does curve his entire grading scale but grades so strictly it doesn't help do not take if first time
Nice guy, but would be better as a grandfather than a professor. He always goes off on tangents about nothing and when he does teach, it's straight from the book. I end up teaching myself more than I learn in class. I gave a test back to get a question looked at; he gave me points back, but took off more for a question he "forgot" to grade. AVOID.
Worst class ever. He clearly should not be teaching. Goes off on tangents that are impossible to follow or care about. DO NOT TAKE.
only reason why i would recommended this professor is because of his ginormous curve. I literally never paid attention in class, just studied for each test the night before and taught myself everything. He gives pop quizzes but you can make them up if you have an excuse.
Roy's a nice guy. BUT he doesn't teach. I took stats in high school (and it was a legit class) and I'm only doing okay in Roy's class. Get out if you can class is beyond boring. Only take this class if you can teach yourself from the book or had a really good stats class in high school.
Do not take this guy. He is nice, but the worst teacher I have ever had. Goes off on random speeches and does not know how to teach at all. You will be reading the book and teaching yourself if you take him and most likely getting a C or B if you have never taken stats before.
He is really a nice guy. They way he teaches is LITERALLY out of the book, might as well teach yourself. If you go to his office hours, he basically helps you a lot, what you haven't learn in a week, he can explain one on one in 5 minutes. I would recommend take him especially for the big curves he gives
He is such a nice person. Have an A in the class, (even with the 52 on my first test), very helpful in his office hours. Gives HUGE curves! take him. :)
Heatwole is not a good professor. He curves so that the university won't notice that none of his students understand the material. Teaches straight out of the book, on the rare occasion that he's teaching. If you want to learn something, get a different prof. Really nice guy, but he is not a good teacher.
Roy is great guy, he's really nice, but he's not the best professor. He tries his best to help his students though. He gets a little lost in trying to relate the material to life, but allows an index card of notes for every test.It wasn't a bad class though.
If you have never taken Stats before then take someone else! If you have taken it in highschool then this class is extremely easy. You get a notecard on each test and if you never miss class then you get extra credit! There is also a HUGE curve. If you have a B than it is really an A and so on! Roy is always willing to help you!
Professor Heatwole's class is not too bad. If you are struggling, he is willing to help. I went to his office hours everyday, which helped so much. If you do your homework you'll do good on the test because he takes homework problems to put on the test. You can always have a note card for test too. I got an A in the class. He was a great guy.
Okay....Heatwole is a nice man....sweet old grandfather but to be completely honest, he cannot teach. Maybe 80 years ago,he could have done a could job. But he is way too old now. He wanted to help during office hours and he did his best to reward effort but I did not understand the material AT ALL. I somehow got a B but he saw that I was trying.
He is a good guy and will go above and beyond to help you, IF you force him to. Although his classes were not helpful and he really struggles to communicate the information. I took stats in high school and was still completely lost majority of the semester, after reteaching myself everything i somehow managed to pull out a B. take at your own risk.
Heatwole is the nicest and honestly cares a lot! Spends most of class telling stories! Love him
By far one of the sweetest profs you will ever have. Although attendance is mandatory, he is very understanding and rarely counts you unexcused if you let him know you'll be absent. The material is VERY confusing if you've never taken stats before. He likes to read straight from the book. He is willing to work with your schedule for exams :)
