The awesomeist Econ teacher you can get
Best Econ teacher ever. Super easy.
Don't ever buy the book not needed. Just study lecture
don't buy the book! i heard great things about him, but didn't really see it once i got in his class. everything is based on tests, so if you aren't a good test taker i wouldn't recommend him.
This is one of the worst teachers I've ever had. He doesn't explain anything and he has to look at his notes to teach the class. Its like he doesn't know the material he's teaching.
What a cool guy the only class I looked towards going to every week. Plus it's econ so that should say a lot about the guy.
Just a good teacher. Very helpful and straighforward on what to expect on the tests. Plus he gives sample tests, and a lot of the questions are on the exams. What more can you ask for in a teacher.
Very easy teacher if you are good at taking tests. Test questions come right from your notes and the sample tests he gives. He's a great teacher and really knows his econ....also very helpful and interesting
Breaks up boring lectures with different off the wall topics. Is good at keeping WEB CT current and posts a lot of useful info on it. Likes to teach and likes us!!
loves to party......great teacher
Laughs like a **** bear. Tests come from lectures and classwork. The overly complex book will probably just confuse you unless economics is your thing so don't even buy it. You can always pick it up later if you need it.
very nice truely cares if you say he is hard you are just lazy
He's the goofiest, gimpyest guy ever. He's so funny, not cause he's trying to be, but he's exteremely entertaining. Just look on webct for notes and you'll be fine.
If you don't take test well don't take him!
Farily boaring class, but the teacher is a riot. He is a fun-loving guy. The tests are extremely hard, but he grades them fairly. just going to class is about 20% of grade. A lot of extra credit availible. Brilliant and fun teacher, but hard concepts
Very nice but if you aske me what Econ is I still could tell you I understood nothing in that class
Roy Mclean is the man!no better prof on the planet. Whittiest teacher out there with off the wall topics to keep you interested.
Awesome teacher I have trouble learning anything but his teacher was an awesome help
Maclean rocks! Take him for 221, you won't regret it. Funniest professor I've ever had, just plain hilarious and totally out of it. He's a decent teacher and the exams aren't too bad, either.

Hard as hell, but a good teacher. Take him for a great time in class.....just make sure you show up for review dates.
Very fun teacher. The tests aren't too difficult. If you have to take ECON I recommend you take him.

Cool guy. Interesting discussions. Boring lectures. Easy tests. Incredibly easy class.
This class is the easiest one I've ever taken. You could never pay attention & never study for the class & still pass. He's nice, but not very clear. His laugh is hilarious. If you want a GPA booster, take McLean!

Took this class online in Summer04. Hard to learn economics online. Teacher gives lots of help with lecture notes and sample tests. Grades very fair. Each exam had a 10 point curve.
Roy is pretty different from most profs. He'll come in some days and basically say he hasn't the capacity to teach, let you out early, then make up for it the next day. However, he's a great guy and hilarious some days. His laugh is priceless, and you can't help but laugh along when it comes out.
Very entertaining at times. Lectures are boring and overwhelming at times, but don't worry, you don't have to pay attention. All his tests are almost identicle to the real ones. Study the sample ones the night before and you are set! Class participation are east points too. Highly recomended teacher!

Cool prof. Knows his stuff. Does fun stuff in class. Easy-going. He'll leave it up to you to get a good grade. No pressure. Very likeable.
Okay, boring subject . . . so take McLean. He is very cool. More professors should be like him. He is fun, likeable, funny, and doesn't require much from class as far as homework. Subject is tough but if you need help, he will give it to you.
This guy is really into his subject. Points only come from tests, which are fairly easy if you study the notes, but theres still some trickery. There is no homework, just notes every day, kinda weird professor.
Well, if you don't want a lot of work, take this prof. Makes coming to class halfway enjoyable considering the subject. He is very fair and tries to help you with extra points for the class as much as he can. I would recommend him. He is funny and doesn't treat you like a idiot.
terrible class. take him if you want to learn nothing, his tests are nothing like his notes, i dont know where he came up with his graphs, worst class ever
Ok yeah so i got an A in here but it was NOT because of his teaching all he does is write on the board and explain nothing and half the time hes rewriting the same things over and over when ppl ask Q's he never knows the answer just his crazy laugh
Very easy-going, fair, funny, laid-back. I liked him. If you don't understand what he talks about in class, you are welcome in his office. Considering some of the stuffed-shirts on campus, I thought he was a breath of fresh air. ECON is just tough and boring. I would take him again.
Easy A, but awful teacher. I learned everything from the book, didn't learn anything from him. If you are actually interested in this subject, take another prof. If you want an easy A, take him & memorize the study guides.
He is a really funny guy, but tests are extremely hard. you can fail all the tests and still come out with a C, as long as you attend all classes.
Dr. McLean does his best to make Econ as interesting as it's going to get. His tests are a bit tricky, but if you show up on a regular basis you should have no problem. I would reccomend taking the summer session like I did. A little faster pace, but a much more relaxed enviroment.
I can't belive he calls himself a professor. Don' take him enless you learn from just lectures and exams. Worst professor I have had at FSU
Lectures all class long, sometimes can be a little unclear. Tests can be very tricky and are very hard. If you want to do well work hard and make sure to stay awake in class, it can be hard.
seems like a nice guy, can get a decent grade in this class without learning a thing. he really gives every answer for his tests in his lectures. he doesnt follow his syllabus very well.
He's a good guy. This class is probably the easiest econ at Ferris. I kind of felt guilty with the huge test curves. He sets the amount of material he wants to get through, then lets you go. This means he hardly ever takes the whole hour and fifteen (who wants to listen to econ for that long anyway?). Learning comes natural. I recommend him.
Roy is a good guy but you learn nothing in the class. You can blow it off and its really pretty easy. Keep good communication with him if you arent going to be in class. He knows the topic well, but he does not put it into terms you or I could understand...He waneders too much...
Not a very good teacher at all writes very small and goes too fast can't hear him at all.. Test are hard overall a bad teacher dosen't explain anything.
One of the worst classes I have taken. You will not learn a single thing. He draws graphs all hour on the board that are beyond confusing. Gives a big curve because nobody can get higher than a C on his tests. Very Very boring too. Can only miss 3 classes. If you need an econ teacher take William smith
By far the worst teacher I have ever had! Doesn't explain anything, and doesn't know what to do with himself when a student asks him a question. STAY AWAY! He is very unhelpful, draws graphs that you won't get and assisgnments that are so confusing they may as well be in another language. He also made us buy the wrong textbook so no help there!
Knows his subject very well but is not clear in his lectures. If you like sitting in class listening to the teacher talk and make random jokes that aren't funny who draws lots of graphs, take his class. But if this doesn't describe you...stay away.
Lectures the whole class and clarity is horrible. If you read the book and do his practice exams than getting a good grade should not be too bad. He never gave our class a grading curve like other students mentioned though.
I was unable to learn anything from him. His tests are hard to understand along with notes/lectures. I expected this class to be a blow off, but it ended up being my hardest. If you do his practice tests, you have a chance of getting 50% of the tests right. Other than that, his humor is annoying and is an overall bad professor. Not clear on anythin
Seriously, find another Professor.
He moves quickly in class, what he says may differ from what he writes on the board, the further into the semester you get the crappier the test reviews get and the more out there the test questions get,but he does put a good study framework online. he seems to throw things at you faster and less clearly the second half of the semester.
He has no organization. You never know what grade you have in the class, as he fudges grades to help students. It seems like a great idea but its not because everyone does terrible on his tests. He knows the subject well, provides a ton of online sources, but cannot teach.
Boring, no one asks questions, talks to the board, worked for the FED - material is hard and he makes it worse, calls an end to class after 10 minutes
I dropped this class, and I'm going to retake it with another professor..
worst professor i've had. hard class. all he does is say something & then write the exact same thing on the board. hated this class. i have to retake this course because of him. && it will be with a different professor!
the test will pretty much be exactly what he writes on the board during the lecture. if you don't understand something chances are that he will explain it again the next class then the day before the exam - all you need to do to get a good grade is show up, copy his notes, and do a few online asignments - great at comparing theories to real events
Gives plenty of opportunity to get extra credit and improve your grade. He doesn't take attendance and doesn't care if you sit on your phone. Tests aren't weighted that heavily since I never got higher than a 75 on a test but finished the course with an A. Do all the work guarantee an A. Take if its required and your not an ECON major. Easy A
I'm really not sure why so many people write such horrible review about him on here...he is actually a very good teacher and it is very obvious that he is extremely passionate about econ. his jokes suck but his kindness overpowers that 100%. easy to pass if you can make yourself pay attention.
Professor's lectures are very boring. I often find myself gazing off into space in his class. Read the book and do the extra credit and you will be fine.
McLean's class is the easiest class I have ever taken. The lectures are tough to sit through because they are boring but if you take notes during his lecture and do the easy online homework you are bound to get an A. Would for sure recommend if you want an easy A.
Roy is a nice guy. His lectures are long and boring. He has random jokes on stuff you probably won't relate to, just laugh. He's very understanding and willing to help. Get a tutor and read! The online assignments are a pain! I'm taking him next semester for 222!
By far the easiest class I've ever taken. His lectures are slow and dry, but just copy down everything he writes down (which is at a very relaxing pace) and you'll do fine. Didn't open the book, but took good notes from lecture, and ended with a 104%. He let us out early almost daily and started class 5 minutes. He's a funny guy, too!
Lectures are EXTREMELY dry and long. Had a very difficult time trying to stay focused. Lots of online work, and we all know how Ferris internet it.... Tests were hard and worded confusing. Word of advice: Take a different professor unless you REALLY enjoy econ.
Intelligent and educated. Speaks with a lisp. Difficult to understand. Not a public speaker. Reads from HIS notes. Does not follow lecture notes & handouts. Very lax in posting in Blackboard. Essential note taking in class. Use book for clarification.
It looks like Dr. McLean has a poor rap on here, and I want to clarify. He's an excellent teacher. It's true that lectures are dry, but I have him for econ - how fun can it really be? He gives PLENTY of EC options... I have a 99%. Just PAY ATTENTION. In my class, 80% of the kids text the whole time. No wonder they don't learn much!
You will be bored. You will want to skip. But, in the end if you do your online homework (he makes this optional at the beginning of the semester, but just buy it. its worth it) and show up, you will have no problem doing well in this class if you understood Econ 221. If you are fairly self motivated you'll be fine.
Roy is a nice guy. Boring lectures but offers so much extra credit, makes it nearly impossible to fail the class. Easy homework but difficult tests, studying for them is a must! Overall, not a bad class at all. I would recommend this class to anyone debating which professor to take. Oh, and attendance isn't mandatory!
Super easy class. As long as you show up and pay attention in lecture you should get an A. His tests are easy and he offers tons of extra credit. You can replace your lowest test grade with optional homework. Lectures can be boring, and he uses lots of graphs in his examples and tests. He is a caring guy who is passionate about teaching economics.
Prof. McLean is an odd guy. He's smart for sure, but his teaching style is lackluster. He gives a lot of chances to earn an A, but it's still somewhat difficult because the 4 exams make your grade. I wouldn't avoid a class he teaches, but I wouldn't actively seek him out either.
A great guy. Hands down one of my favorites at Ferris. He makes Econ somewhat enjoyable because he is so relaxed and funny. His laugh will crack you up! Always write down what he is writing and pay attention to the lecture. It should be an easy A with all the extra credit he gives out. I would definitely recommend him to anyone taking this course.
He's a great guy but not a great teacher. If you are taking macro with him you should be fine as its just easy to grasp the concepts by yourself. When it comes to micro it is a different story, I would suggest getting a different teacher.
I didnt show up for more than half the semester. I showed up only on test day and the day before the test when he would review. All of his homework is online and so is the review of the tests. Macro econ is not hard very easy concepts to grasp. But u do have to study and do the h.w thats all ur graded on.
He is a great guy. Best laugh ever. Entirely too boring. His lectures are awful. He only draws graphs and reads from his computer screen. If you are not an auditory learner with a knack for graphs do not take him. His exams are difficult. You must read the book. The questions do not come from his words, they are always in the words the book uses.
Grade is based off 4 exams and learn smart. Extremely boring/irrelevant lectures.
Long useless lectures. Most of your grade is the exams. Not a good test taker? You won't pass. Stay clear and do not take him. I have never failed a class and had to withdraw half way through the semester. When you ask questions he doesn't know the answer. Homework is easy but barely makes up your grade. Study guide is useless for the exam.
Very bad professor, you might as well teach yourself. He talks more about himself than the topic at hand, and if you don't take initiative outside of the classroom you will cry after every test. Everyone I have talked to about him says he sucks.
Probably the worst teacher I have ever had in my entire life. Terrible public speaker every other word out of his mouth is "umm" or "uhh". Not engaging at all even for a topic that I am somewhat interested in, probably just going to watch YouTube lectures to finish out the semester. 0/5
It is extremely hard to get a hold of him! He didn't offer office hours so the only way was email. I sent him questions in weeks 1,3,12, and 14 and he only responded to week 14 when I continuously copied and pasted it until he responded. The class was passable, almost only exams with a few connect assignments. You teach yourself the lessons.
This class was very difficult. If you don't understand economics at all this class is not going to be easy. He does not explain anything and just lectures during the whole class time. I had to withdraw because I was not passing the tests and there was no way I would be able to get the grade up. DO NOT TAKE THIS PROF.
He just sits as his desk and read slides. It's hard to stay focused. He doesn't add material to help you learn. You're basically teaching it to yourself.
I took the fully online version of Micro econ, that being said, it was on mcgraw hill connect and that's where all the exams were. That's ok as only the first two exams were proctored and then after that you can use your notes. Had the chance to replace lowest exam scores a few times! I made a few quizlet sets, my username is Whales_007.
Content is hard to grasp. He doesn't engage with the class to see if concepts are being understood. Getting a response when reaching out to him is difficult so definitely stay after class if you have questions. Exams are difficult and the study guides are not helpful. Exams are pretty much your only grade so if you bomb an exam you fail
Homework takes an extremely long time to complete with only 10 points. Doesn't teach in an engaging way. I would have totally failed this class if it wasn't for the extra credit. All he does for class is read off information without properly applying them, doing examples, and overall making sure the class understands.
Not the best professor. Goes off slideshows and gives HW over things he didn't teach. Then gets mad when you don't know how to do it. Grading is unclear and so is his teaching methods.
I often times had a hard time trying to get ahold of the professor when I had questions in the class. His syllabus could have been more clearer regarding examinations.
This is my personal experience with the online version of the class. It was a bit stressful at first because it was only a six week class. The course work was pretty easy until the later chapters. He was available to help students but it took him awhile to respond to emails.
He told us attendance was mandatory and it even said that in the syllabus, but I missed 5 days and he put "failure to attend" as the reason as to why I failed his class even though I did all the homework and the tests
Dont get me wrong hes a good guy, just not a good professor. Class wasnt really engaging so it was hard to stay focused.
This was a summer course, so it was online, but he was very willing to work with me with having surgery as well. All exams are open book and not that difficult
Nice guy, but his lectures are not engaging. Homework is very easy and he only assigns one assignment per chapter. His class was very easy, but if you are looking to gain actual knowledge on the topic I would suggest a different professor.
