I'm taking his course on the Holocaust. He's great. Handling the entire Jewish Studies department. Very open and engaging. Works to make a connection with his students.

The first day of class he made me feel welcome. He is the best professor at ccny so far. i've taken two classes with him so far. no test only papers but he is very demanding and must not be absent. great professor!! very funny!!

I have mittelman for 2 classes. He is engaging+knows how to get students involved. A very passionate man, isnt' afraid to challenge students. Semi-political at times, but not over bearing.respectful of all views. Highly recomend! one of the best at ccny!

He's definitely a pleasure and always makes time for his students. Never turns down a question and is always there to help in whatever you may need, whether it be about his class or not. Definitely "DA man" when he's talking about his subject and always has some funny catchphrase.

Great Teacher, Fun and energetic. Mittleman rocks! Reaction papers can be a little overwhelming especially if you have a couple of them due at the same time. A lot of reading is required, but it is interesting. Holocaust movies were def. educational and emotion. Overall the class is 3/5.

Very dedicated and energetic. Very helpful,his office door his always welcoming to all of his students. I have taken many classes with him and I learned alot from each one. I really can't choice a favorite. Plus Jewish Studies makes a great minor or even double major its not to overwhelming.

What a great guy, with a great and interesting life. Nothing this guys says is boring, however, sometimes the stories he tells are totally unbelievable...yet...they do keep you interested. Overall, he is a great teacher, he actually teaches, and as long as you show up to class, you get an A. :) <3

He's one of the best teachers that I ever had. You can actually tell that he loves his job. Although there is a lot of writing and reading involved, it's easy. A person can get an easy A+ in his class.

Dr. M,the only rapping rabbi i know, is the coolest dude. What amazes me is his genuine love for his job and for his students. The man is hilarious, too. I definitely recommend for anyone and everyone to take at least one of his classes. I love you, Dr. M. Keep up the good work!

You know after you've read a REALLY good book, you feel so inspired and you just want to run out of your room and go save the world? Ever had that experience? That's the kind of experience Dr. M. gives you. Especially his psychology of religion class. Truly AWEsome. And Mittleman's not so bad either...:-)

He has to be one of the most delightful person on earth. He is caring and understanding. His classes are interesting and extremely interesting.

Mittelman, the only rapping Jew i know in person, is the coolest man alive. I look up to the man as if he were my father. I'm always running to his office whenever i feel down or stressed out and he's always there to listen... unbelievable that man... he's like my own personal psychologist... so awesome, that man.

I've taken most of his classes and they're always so deliciously interesting. I wish more professors were like him, specifically some of the psych. professors. He cares about his students and have their best interests at heart. You can't wrong with him. Also, he's a bit weird. But not a strange weird. A funny/silly kind of weird but still weird.

a lot of reading, like you have to read a book for each week and write a respond for it, if you are not a type of reading and writing person, you will feel terriblb, he is a very funny and great teacher, but if you dont understand what he mean or lecture, it going to be so boring.

Forget philosophy. Forget LSD. Dr. M's "Pyschology of Religion" is da bomb. The man (el hombre) raps and is dope. Sincerity and passion are emitted by this man as you butt head with life-changing ideas. Bias exfoliation and mental accupunture, and spiritual message... I'm softer but firmer. A CCNY treasure.

he's very easy going, yet hard, i think its bcz hes the director lol but he;s very firm and keeps the class alive, by his various knowledge of cultures, he is one of the best professors u can find, if u dont like reading or writing, u wont like mittelmen, so to do good in his class, make sure u do his reaction papers and do super good on the paper!

He a very smart man. He will keep you interested all semester long. He is very funny and a very kind man. His class is easy if you do the work and his papers are very simple if you read the books. Is was a real pleasure to be in his class and i recommend it to anybody.

I don't know what all this talk about Dr. M.'s classes being "boring" and "hard" if people showed up to class, did the assignments, they'd have nothing to complain about. He is so far the best professor i've had at city. He is a brilliant man, smart, funny you will never go to sleep in his class.The material is interseting and the readings arent that tough you have reaction papers which are easy and 2 take home tests which are comparisons btw the readings.

I think that prof. Mittleman is a great professor, he is always available in is office when you need him, and he will help you whenever necessary. I will take him again, and won't mind that's how good he is. He is the best teacher that I've taken so far.

Dr. Mittelman (spelling?) it's the greatest thing since sliced bread. He's smart, funny and keeps his classes and students interested. The guy taught me to read Hebrew and that's NOT a requirement for his classes. There's a reason he's the man in the middle...He's simply METSUYAN! Take a chance and take one of his classes, you will NOT regret it.

One of City College's Gem. Some of the best courses you'll take in your life-time. He's by no means easy. Don't think you're going to take his class and not be challenged, mentally emotionally etc. You have to work, be prepared and be on-time. Be prepared to laugh, smile, cry, learn and see the world and your life with a little more clarity.

I absolutly enjoy having Mittelman as my professor. I've had him for 3 classes, and he has always kept my interest. I've learned a lot from him and he is always willing to help students.

Most wonderful professor you will ever have at this school. His classes are not by any means easy, but you can learn more from him in a semester than most other professors in four.

He is a really great professor and makes the class fun! Sometimes when he is in a bad mood,he will get serious or snap.

at first i was kinda skeptical about this class but i needed something to fill in so i took it. honestly i dont know whether it was destiny or my luck , i think i made the best choice of my life. i highly recommend this class to anyone who would like to learn a little bit about life and things around them.

Amazing prof.! Funny & wise. The work is not that bad, 14 reaction papers, 2 take home exams (midterm & final) & 1 paper on attending a house of worship other than your own. The reaction papers are only a page, and the work is not much b/c it's broken down. One of my favorite professors, you should really take his class! Totally worth it!

Psych of Religion is extremely valuable and pertains strictly to everyday life and personal struggles/searches.Dr M.introduces great thinkers' different points of view, and tries to instill in his students enlightening attitude towards life, at the same time he encourages them to discover their own way to think/live fulfilled and meaningfull lives.

AMAZING professor....I took his Holocaust class and I learned so much. He balanced the serious nature of the class with humor, and I would recommend this class to anyone interested in psychology and human behavior. You must be prepared to do the readings and think critically about them, but definitely take him if you have the chance.

Roy is one of the best teachers I have ever had. He obviously cares so much about his students. He treated our class like family. You should rush to take classes with him. He assigns a very reasonable amount of work and is also a very reasonable grader.

He is by far the best professor I've ever had out of all my semesters. He always gets you thinking in his class. You will walk out a smarter person. Attend lectures and do all readings for reaction papers. It's an easy A.

The class was very interesting. The prof. keep everyone involved and talked about great topics with some interesting movies, they really leave you breathless. Unfortunately, he can be nice in class and make you think you are going to get a good grade and then you come out with a C. There is only a midterm and a final and no expensive textbook:-)

He is a great professor very linear, he is a fair grader, he like you to put a lot of work and thought on those essays which btw are 19 reactions paper.. and a mid term and a final. yes this class is a lot of work however if you read and do a descent work on the reaction papers is really easy to get An A.

Professor mittelman is oddly preoccupied with making the class laugh. at the beginning of the semester, i really loved him- he's an eloquent, commanding lecturer in addition to being quite funny- but something changed midway through the term and I became kind of disillusioned with the guy. he's not very welcoming outside of class and is a bit mean.

Wonderful professor! I learned so much from his class. He's very affable, and always makes jokes. However, he takes the class very seriously. He's strict about attendance and punctuality. And, he doesn't accept any late assignments, under any circumstances. If you take the class seriously as well, you'll get a good grade.

Taking Mittelman has been one of my best decisions at CCNY. He is a passionate professor and will challenge and expand your mind. I have been moved to tears in his class and also have had many belly laughs. I would not recommend him to anyone who is looking to memorize and receive an easy A, but encourage people to take his class with an open mind.

Great Professor! has a lot of great insight about many different topics. a lot of reading is required however they are usually interesting so its not too bad! he likes when students asks questions and he gives everyone in class an opportunity to speak! he is a very fair grader. his other classes are also very interesting!

Took Holocaust in Film with Dr. Mittelman as a summer course last year. He has a few quirks about being too noisy with food wrappers in class, but he is incredibly intelligent, passionate about his subject, and does his best to bring out that same interest in his students. He expects participation and critical thinking. Not easy, but worth it.

Mittelman loves what he does. He's a very funny prof. but sometimes class does get quite boring. A lot of work, but very fair grader. 11 reaction papers (2 pgs min). 1 midterm paper & 1 final paper (3-5 pages each, gives a week to complete). One field work paper (3-5 pages) of your experience going to a house of worship outside your comfort Zone.

Truly a one of a kind professor. He lectures from the heart and he cares about every single student in his class. He makes it into more than just a class, a potentially a life changing experience. It is hard and very time consuming, but also very rewarding. As he says, you cannot just go through the material, but you must let it go through you.

Mittelman's lectures are very clear. In the History of the Afterlife class, the first half of the semester is reading 24/7 at home, writing 3 reaction papers and discussion in class. The second half is basically powerpoint notes. There are only two tests, multiple choice with 30-40 questions each. EC and readings given except 1 book (really cheap).

He is a really good professor and he tells you what he expects from day one. His classes are fun, but very demanding. You can and probably will get an A, but not necessarily an easy A. Just do the work and show up to class.

Majority of grade based on reactions to readings (essay format). No group projects. Learns names by second or third class. Humorous and full of interesting stories. Keeps classroom environment open for students to give opinions, but will counter opinions to keep students thinking. Stern about tardiness. Multiple extra credit opportunities.

Dr. M is one of the best things about CCNY! I took his class a while ago and just stumbled across my notes, which made me realize how much I got from his class. His words about life, learning and how the world works have shaped the way I think! Do yourself a favor and sign up for his class today!

One of my favorite teachers! He does a really good job explaining things and makes class fun. He assigns a lot of papers, but they're only 1-2 pgs and you can find most of the info on the readings on the internet. If you show up and pay attention, the class should be easy.

He gives 1 paper to do every week which he grades out of a score of ten. He doesn't go over what he wants in a paper because he wants you to "explore" but that made it difficult to get anything above a 6/10. Over the semester you figure out what he wants in a paper and it gets better. He's hilarious and tries to get to know his students. Cool guy.

He is such a fun teacher. One that really cares about the students. He is inspired by his material and they are really fun to read. However, he does go on long personal rants at times. Totally worth it in my opinion. He talks politics in class. If you don't like that, BEWARE. He really made me love coming to class. Always talking up Jewish Studies

Dr. M is one of the best and most passionate professors at CCNY. He assigns 1 reading every week (13 total readings) which you then give a 1-2 page analysis on, 2 take-home exams and a final fieldwork paper. Everything you need to know is on the syllabus. He also emails the class the dates of assignments for the next few weeks for your convenience.

Dr. Mittleman is A GEM. He manages to turn a grim subject (Holocaust in Films) into something that students actually enjoy learning about. He gave us important background information about the films we watched and actively encouraged us to participate in class discussions and through written reaction papers. Amazing experience. Great Professor.

Professor Mittelman is a great teacher and a fair grader. Love his teaching style. Our voice is as important as anyone else in the class. He makes a difficult topic like the Holocaust easy to understand. I plan on taking another class with him.

I mean, what can I say... Professor Mitellman was just loads of fun! Expect to write several papers over the course of the semester, but he's a fairly lenient grader. Attendance matters BIG TIME, extra credit is also available. The only way you won't get an A in this course is if you're lazy and your work reflects that.

Youre gonna have to read a lot every week and write a 2 page paper. Midterm and final were both 5-6 page papers. Mittelman is a really cool guy, make worthwhile contributions to discussion and hell give a solid grade. Super cool guy

Dr. Mittelman is a rare gem in the CCNY faculty. After taking two semesters of classes with him, I am confident that my experience at CCNY has been enriched, as a result. He cares about all of his students deeply and provides various opportunities and guidance to those who need it. If you have a chance to sign up for a class with him, take it!

Professor Mittelman is an engaging lecturer who makes the material enjoyable. Attendance is a must, but with the help of resources like Unstuck study, acing this class is achievable.

You have to write a 2-page paper for each class but it's double spaced and if you do the readings there will be no shortage of things to write about. The readings can sometimes be a lot, but you need them to write the papers. If you do the papers and the readings you'll be fine. Amazing professor, he really tries to work with students.

I had this professor back in the 1990's. He was an awesome human being and I learned so much from him in his Jewish Studies class. It was a subject I had no experience with so it was very mentally stimulating. I remember his photography also, very artistic and morivating. I'm glad to see he is still at CUNY. He had a lasting impact on me.
