I'm not even a math person but I got an A in the class- he didn't make the tests tho b/c of jexam. He was very helpful for my class

he is a very sweet man. he enjoys what he teaches and is always willing to help! his wife will bake you cookies sometimes too! he gives you great practice tests before each test. his tests are pretty easy and you always have a bonus question. i highly recommend this man

A very nice man who always helped out when I neened it. Its not the class that is challenging, its just the course. He doesnt make the tests but he helps you prepare well for them.

Dr. Segars is one of the best teachers I have had at UGA, not because he was easy,but because he took extra DAYS to come and help students who were interested in forming a study group with him. He is a great teacher. Kinda weird, but in a funny way. His class notes definitely helped for all the tests, but the way to get a good grade in this class is by doing the practice tests over and over. He held study sessions before each test that were helpful except for people that went to them because they never went to class;they wasted time.

Dr. Segars is by far the best math teacher I've ever had! He genuinely cares about his students and would rather have everyone make A's and know the material than have a bell curve. He jokes around in class and makes the material interesting, and he takes time out of his weekends to hold help review sessions.

I had Dr. Segars 8am both semesters this year for 1113 and 2200, and he made it worth getting up so early! He's really a great professor; he devotes so much time (in & out of class) to making sure people understand the material, and he makes it actually interesting to learn- a true math comedian.

REALLY nice and VERY helpful

I really enjoyed his class. Because he is already "retired," he says he doesn't care if he gets fired or not (which is good, in this case). He sometimes acts really weird but he is a really nice prof. He talks a lot about his family. This class was probably my favorite class this semester. The tests aren't hard if you study the practice tests.

He's a really nice guy and I actually enjoyed going to class, but his tests were confusing at times. I felt that the tests should be a lot easier because we hardly did anything when we had class, but he always threw in curveballs and since there weren't many problems, it was really easy to mess up and get a bad grade.

Teaches straight from JExam which is all you need to know to be successful since all your tests are from here. Do practice tests and ask any questions, he will be sure to answer any. I got an A without buying the book. Basically, just know how to do every type of problem for each chapter and you'll be fine.

He's a great teacher! He teaches straight from Jexam and not the book. He's extremely helpful and clear. He's pretty funny, too. You can tell math is definitely his passion. His review sessions are pretty helpful, too. So even if you don't get into his class, you can try to go to his review sessions. I highly recommend him! :)

Pretty good professor. It was easy for me but others in the class had a hard time. His tests are basically what he goes over in class but he will always make the problems a little harder.

awesome teacher, Precalc uses J-exam so its really up to u to determine ur gade. just DO the practice tests, i repeat, Do the practice tests. thats basically what u need to do to pass. i started off wrong and ended up with a B- but if u do all ur work, there hould be no problem getting an A.

The thing is he is a great teacher if you actually try in this class. If you pay attention in this class, you will know everything you need to know for the final. We had webwork assignments which also help a lot in preparing for tests. He goes over any problems that the students don't understand on the webwork. If math is your weakness, take Segars

good teacher, but only if u kind of already have a basic understanding already. I love math & already knew most of it so it was easy. There r only 3 test, 1 or 2 quizzes, & online homework (it is worth ur while to do it btw). Over all...if u r not that hot n calculus dont take him unless u plan to study hard. He is willing to work with u tho.

Great professor.Makes math very interesting and is very willing to help his students. Attendance isn't mandatory but he does give in class quizzes which are not very difficult if you pay attention in class.

Professor Segars always comes into class with a good attitude and was very friendly to students. He works any and all questions you have and knows most students by name. If math is not your strongest subject, take Segars, he is a VERY thorough instructor.

Nice guy he'll make you laugh and seem laid back. The hws aren't long and he basically wants you to do them for your own good not for a grade. Then you'll get to the tests...and wonder what just slapped you. The tests are nothing like any of the other material presented to you and the only way you'll do well is if you have prior knowledge of calc.

Segars is a great man, but not so great a teacher. I'm awful at math, but from what I hear, he is only a good teacher if you come into the class with a basic understanding of the subject. He was kind of rude to me when I was getting some one on one help from him though. I enjoy his class and his personality a lot however. Very Personable and CARES.

GREAT teacher! Goes over ALL homework/quiz problems prior to test IF you ask. Don't be afraid to speak up! Learns the names of students who sit in front and notices when people are absent. Attendence not mandatory, but if you skip, you will be behind. Never used textbook, all work online. If you study, ask questions, and go to class, will get A.

Great guy. Hard, but extremely helpful. Spend time with him before and after class and ask questions, he has no problems teaching. Best professor I had. Bombed the first test, saw him constantly afterwards and aced the class.

Awesome teacher! Knows his math stuff, and is always willing to help before tests. Many times came to campus on weekends before tests to hold review sessions. As long as you pay attention and ask questions as you go, you'll do fine! Definitely cares about his students and his profession.

Assumes you already know a lot. For example, I struggled a bit with algebra and he would work examples up until a point where he would say, "and the rest is algebra" and you'd always have to ask him to finish. Otherwise, he was very nice and helpful. In a good mood one day, he gave everyone a 100 in class quiz grade.

In all honesty, be very mindful when taking this course with Segars. He will not baby your math abilities and he doesn't grade too hard (I've seen worse) but it can get very tedious. Overall, his class isn't too difficult but you have to stay AHEAD. Tests are usually 6-7 questions long and some are similar to his past exams but DO NOT get on this.

Dr. Segars is a great professor for this class. He is a former engineer so if that is your major you will be a good fit. He posts previous tests to help you study which are very helpful. I would take every math class with him.

Dr. Segars for precalc was challenging but precalc at UGA is challenging across the board for some reason. However, he tries to make class funny and entertaining. He is a super super super sweet old man and very energetic. He loves to dance. If you go to his office hours he will make you learn the material before you leave. SUPER GREAT GUY

He doesn't like to give partial credit but his exams are very similar to his old exams, which he gives you. If you do your homework and study his old exams you should make an A.

He always helps with homework and takes days during the week to help you finish your online homework and quizzes. Always is willing to answer questions and is super fun!

If you pay attention in class and do the homework then you will succeed. He explains things clearly and teaches the concepts, not just formulas. Overall, great professor.

This guy has been my favorite math teacher yet! He really keeps the mood light in the classroom which is nice when you are taking Multivariable Calculus. He is always willing to work problems with you and teaches really well. Covers all the subjects on the tests and provides old tests to study with. Overall fantastic. I'll be taking 2700 with him.

Very straight forward with his teaching and teaches to his tests. Go to class and pay attention and the quizzes and tests will come easily. Caring man who will help you if you need it.

Yeah basically this dude is the man. 100 percent one of the easiest going professors, but makes sure you understand the material. Does not come into class to confuse you, however, it has been quite a time since he learned the material himself, so if you are confused you need to ask questions. Sometimes he can seem condescending by accident.

PreCalc is notoriously hard, so if you have to take it, I suggest Prof. Segars. Tests are tough but not impossible, he doesn't take attendance but you'll miss important stuff if you miss class, & ALEKS (the homework system) is time consuming but helpful. Prof. Segars is a great guy & a tango dancer! You can expect funny stories during class.

Professor Segars did a great job teaching a class well known for being a weed out. He has a dry sense of humor and will break up the class with a joke or skit to keep students from checking out. Definitely a great option for pre-calc (or calc 3 which my roommates had him for and also enjoyed). If you go to class and do your work, you will do well.

Dr. Segars is a great teacher, one of the best in fact. But that doesn't mean he was easy because Diff Eq is a class that requires a lot of practice. So he provides all the information you need along with old tests and make sure to practice a lot and you'll do okay. You just have to work hard and pay attention in class every day.

Dr. Segars is a genuine man, and a great mathematician. He is interested in clarifying things if you are willing to show him the effort. Attend every class, and pour over old tests, you will get a B and feel very good about your newly obtained mathematical expertise.

Segars is a great professor. The first two test for Multivariable Calc were not that difficult. However the third test is extremely more challenging than the first two. He does give you old test (usually from the previous semester) to look over and help study for each test. Really interesting guy and you might even get to see him tango in class.

Roy Segars is great! He tells you exactly what to study to be successful on his quizzes and he does not require outside homework other than ALEKs. He genuinely wants all his students to well in class and he will tell you every inspirational story you need to motivate you. He has dry humor and enjoys tango.

An amazing guy who really cares, do yourself a favor and take him. Only critique I have is that occasionally theres a few things that you need to learn yourself if you dont understand his way of explaining. Tests are okay if you study, he gives you a lot of resources and is extremely fair with partial credit.

This class may have been the easiest class I've taken at UGA. He's very thorough when asked a question and prepares you well for the tests. Before our tests he gave us practice problems, old tests, and answer keys to look over. The material isn't very difficult as it's not like regular math, so a bit of studying and practice goes a long way.

His lecture is really confusing but the concepts itself are super easy. I would recommend you search the UGA notes on the topics from the math department then try to take notes from him. He also does not really know how to re-word concepts to help make his students understand, but he's a really lenient professor and tries his best.

Attendance isn't mandatory but is 100% necessary to learn the information unless you have a god given talent with math. He wants students to pass his class, so to achieve an A is not that hard to do; just show up, do the occasional homework he gives (which is never taken up), and study at least a day or two for tests.

Segars is a great professor that makes lectures interesting and easily understandable. If you think you are going to struggle in PRECALC then take Segars because he actually cares for your grade and will work out problems with you until you get it right. Great professor.

Great Professor for Diff Eq. 3 tests, a final, some homework. Tests are like text book questions and practice exams that he has online. practice those over and over again and it'll become second nature. Funny, respected, and considerate. Does not give partial credit on exams but will talk to you about it. Take him, practice the exams and book Qs.

Dr. Roy Segars has straightforward lectures that really teach you what you need to know for the class and tests. There is a lot of homework but it is not due all at once so just dont wait till the last day that its due to finish it. He gives old exams to help you study and they were helpful. Great Professor and overall person.

Segars is the GOAT. He is super funny, and he makes the material very easy to understand. You will have four exams total, counting the final, and he gives previous exams as study material. If you know the material on the previous exams, you'll do fine on your exams.

He is a character, usually gives stories to help with the dense lectures but it's hard to keep track during his lectures. He blocks the board most of the time and most of it is a blurr tbh. You need to do some of the homework to be successful in the class. He does give out old exams which are a blessing .

If you pay attention in class, take average notes, and do the rare homework assignments you will be fine. Pretty straightforward class.

Dr. Segars is one of the best math professors I've ever had. His background is in engineering, which he's spent an entire career in, so he gives a lot of good applications and some entertaining stories in class. He really wants his students to succeed and is willing to help any way he can. This guy is all-around fantastic!

I took this class online during the summer, and it's been my favorite class at UGA so far. He's an amazing professor, knows what he is teaching, and clearly explains everything. We had lots of WebAssigns (12-4 q's) for homework, but those question formats were used for the tests (2 and a cumulative final) and very good practice. GO TO OFFICE HOURS!

This class is not hard at all compared to most calc classes. There are few exams and he basically tells you exactly whats on them. Segars is a nice guy and his lectures and videos are pretty good. There isn't a ton of homework and I barely had to spend time on this class to get an A. Would definitely recommend for Differential Equations.

Professor Segars' class has been very easy. Make sure you go to class. He gives plenty of practice problems in class and works out problems for us. Close to no assigned homework. Exams are take-home and open note. I'd recommend taking this class with him!

I love segars. He has been my fav prof at uga so far. He is so easy to understand and i recommend also watching his supplemental videos in elc bc they are super helpful. I dont know what other people are talking about because i felt that the practice tests were similar to his actual exams they prob just didnt study enough or cheated on the hw ?

I took segars for Maymester. Hes great at teaching engineers but not any students outside of engineering. His exams were online: they were very lengthy and the exam website was so touchy where it could grade it as wrong when its the right answer. I told the prof. I got something right on the exam but in word format but he didnt give me credit

there's a lot of discrepancy over who's the best diff eqs prof: if you're an engineering major and interested in real world applications and how you use the math, take segars. if you're a math major, and are more interested in learning the theory and proving it, take zabcic. both are really tough graders but great lecturers.

Dr. Segars is a rare gem of a person and a professor. He is obviously very passionate about differential equations and tries his best to relate topics to real life examples. I took the course during his 1 month summer sessions and I felt he really made sure he was accessible outside the classroom and clear on what would be on the exam.

I'm not a math person by any means and this class was fairly easy. Some of the content seems daunting at first but he provides a lot of opportunity to practice and he is available to help. He is pretty good at explaining things and we had 3 tests in total.

Segars is a pretty cool guy. He's funny and makes differential equations easy to learn. If you don't go to class, he has videos for every subject that you can look over to learn the material- although I suggest trying to go to class as much as possible. Tests are long but feasible, the final project is doable. Would definitely take him again.

This professor is great, and the course is very easy as it is primarily algebra and logic-based. He is very personable and good at reviewing the material, but be prepared to practice the math everyday in order to be able to do well in the class.

My favorite professor I have had. He went slow - we did 1 problem every class. He would give you old exams to study with but not always the key. He is a very smart man. Wish he would teach more ENGR classes rather than just math.

Dr. Segars always has something interesting to start class of with, he's a funny guy. Not your typical math class, but not necessarily difficult. If you go to class and pay attention, you'll do fine. He allows a hand-written sheet of notes to be used on in person tests. Would recommend if you're looking to fill an easy math credit.

Really easy class if you're not a math person but you're looking for something simple for credit. He starts of his lectures with a song or a funny story, he's an overall great and funny guy! If you miss class he always has videos of the content posted. There's no homework and you can use one sheet of notes for tests. This class was great!

His tests are straightforward and pretty much exactly like the practice problems done in class and on worksheets. Allows 1 sheet of notes for each test and overall the material isn't hard if you practice. Only thing is he doesn't really post notes or announcements online so you kind of have to go to most classes. Overall pretty good professor

He goes extremely slow. He tells you exactly what to expect on the tests, which is pretty much all you will have in this class.

Dr. Segars is a character. The content sometimes had weak cohesion between concepts just by its surveying nature, and the material was at times unfocused and bounced around unapplied. Nonetheless, he was always very clear about what to expect on tests. Lectures were clear, precise, and engaging. A very straight-forward course.

Segars give you a clear idea of what is on every test, so make sure to go to class. He grades harsh and does not give much partial credit, which is a little bit frustrating. He tells you at the beginning of the semester to buy a $50 textbook but never uses it. Although I got a B- in the class you can fairly easily get an A if you put in the work.

Nice person, makes jokes and is very clear about what he is trying to say. Doesnt have any homework that he grades so everything is built around your own personal efforts you put in. Hes gotten mad before and graded harsh but if you discuss your test with him hell be understanding and give credit. Dont have to show up but studying is up to you.

If you want to get done with your math classes just take him. I didn't really listen to lectures, I just watch his videos on ELC and spammed all the practice problems in his elc mock exams and the questions he did in class. You don't really need to understand the concepts/theory in the class, just remember how to solve specific problems. ez test

Segars is a super cool guy (show up early for stories!). He tells you what is on the test. He gives lots of examples, however I wish he posted notes because he knows tech and has the notes written. I didn't buy the textbook and am doing fine. Just buy the webassign. Overall a nice, interesting class that I would definitely take again!

Dr. Segars does an okay job teaching Calculus. Usually, I would have to go watch Khan Academy. However, he is a really nice guy and will help you if you ask. His tests are super simple and easy. The homework is hard, but not terribly difficult to figure out (plus its online).If you have to take MATH2200, take it with Dr. Segars!

You don't need to buy the textbook! I found a pdf on Google in like 3 seconds. Lectures are okay, not super engaging but it's good practice for the tests. Be sure to do practice problems on your own or the tests will be way harder. He's pretty chill and tells stories that'll fill some lecture time, but the tango jokes were a bit much for me.

Dr. Segars is a great prof. Starts every class talking about something off topic & funny and still does a great job with lectures after. He tells you p much exactly what topics are on the test and has old exams you can rework. He is fair with grades. Does notes on board so need to be in person to get notes- grade reflects your effort. This professor is exceptional at what he does, he explains problems well and goes step by step, he even encourages "deep thought". This class isn't easy, but if you attend class everyday, do practice problems from the textbook and go over old exams, you'll do great.

Absolute beast. Goes through everything you will need during his lectures, and as long as you go and do the smallest amount of practice you can get an A. Tests are super easy, and they are almost always the same setup as problems you do in class, just with different numbers. You also get to bring a cheat sheet for every test, including the final.

Dr. Segars definitely knows what he's talking about. His voice is kinda soft and deep so it can be hard to pay attention sometimes. He clearly walks through problems and is very patient in office hours. As long as you don't procrastinate on the HW, you'll be fine. Do the practice problems!! Prepares you perfeclty for exams. You also do not have to go to class, since he posts lectures online from COVID, but you can miss out on extra credit or pop quizzes. Only need to do 70% of the homework to get a 100 on it. Great Professor

Not unlike most math professors, Dr. Segar's class is very exam and lecture-heavy. Just three exams and the final account for almost all of your grade. However, he does post his COVID-era lectures on eLC which is great if you need to rehash a certain lesson or if you miss a class. He's also pretty funny and tries to make his lectures interesting.

Does a really good job of explaining why you care & what the point of the math you're doing is (while still genuinely enjoying the subject). His lectures were generally easy to follow & matched the textbook fairly well. Make sure to get the version he recommends (its free online & really good). Also, he told fun stories at the beginning of class.

Dr. Segars was such a great professor! He was very helpful! The main issue was the online homework which was incredibly hard for no reason. However, he did good explaining the content and he was just overall a fair grader and a hilarious man. Unfortunately he is retiring after this semester but if you had the chance to have him you know he's great!

This guy is the GOAT and one of my favorite professors at uga. I believe he is retiring but if he changes his mind and you have the chance to take him I 100% recommend it. The homework is so hard for no reason but you only needed to do like 70% of it for a 100. Tests are exactly like what is in class, so I recommend going. Just a guy who loves math

Professor Segars is a great math teacher. His lectures are engaging and he provides lots of practice problems to prepare for exams. Definitely use unstuck study along with the textbook for study prep - it really helps break down the concepts.
