Rozz is one crazy British nut. If you enjoy copious amount of mind mapping and classes of talking about new age learning methods and how everything we have learned in school has been worthless then this class is for you. GCOM is required but she isn't!!
In British terms, this prof. is completely bonkers. For a communication teacher, she has the worst communicating skills I've ever observed. Deadlines are not spoken, nor written on the syllabus that changes daily. Avoid this professor at all costs.
Mind mapping is stupid, but I think ROzz is a good teacher (even though she claims she "isnt my teacher"). Lots of new learning techniques, and tests are generally pretty easy. Unclear about projects and due dates at times.
This is one of the worst professors I have ever had!! She is very unclear, and when you answer a question in class, she tells you to "shut up." I haven't learned anything in this class, except how to make mindmaps. If you get her shoot yourself
Very tall. Teaches more martial arts self defense moves and mind mapping than actual small group communication. Interesting class if you like to argue, and do mindless presentations. Unclear about deadlines, and grading.
She wants you to learn the whole book, but doesnt want to teach it. Im not sure what we do during class time...when we actually have class that is. If you get preregistered in her section then SWITCH!
STAY AWAY! So unhelpful, so vauge. Horrible, Horrible teacher.
She is possibly the WORST teacher I have ever had. She strays from the syllabus and is totally unclear about when assignments are due. She never gives back grades so you have no idea where you stand in the class. If you get stuck in her class...SWITCH!

She is insane. The only thing slightly interesting about the class is that she mumbles to herself and laughs like maniac. Shes so obssessed with mind maps and "new forms of leaning" that she forget to actually teach. GET OUT WHILE YOU CAN.
The absolute worst teacher at JMU. She has an online syllabus that is changed every day, she is convinced that mindmaps are the only way to study and she constantly insults her class. She is unprepared, directionless and the most incompetent teacher ever.
STAY AWAY! horrible teacher, doesn't teach anything but expects you to know everything, never gives back grades and is unclear about due dates for assignments. should go back to england.
No one likes this poor lady, but who can blame 'em. She's crazy, she hasn't mentioned a single thing that's in the book, she doesn't tell you about due dates until something's "overdue" and not to be mean, but I do believe she's emotionally uns
WORST TEACHER EVER! kill yourself before you take her class!
while she is kinda strange and crazy, she definately knows what she's talking about...It's just boring. Bad class altogether, but she can help you.
Worst Teacher ever...wants you to know the whole book and doesnt even teach anything...spent half the semster talking about mindmaping..DO NOT TAKE IF YOU DONT HAVE TO
This teacher got thrown into this class straight off the boat. No clarity, changing syllabus, doesn't teach the info. Wears the same shirt to class and insults the class when she hands back the assignments. RUN, RUN FASTER!
although she doesn't teach the information well, she does want you to succeed. i didn't do ANYTHING in this class, and somehow i still got a B. she will definatly curve cause she wants her class to do well. its not THAT bad.

really not that bad. yes, she doesn't teach the material that well but it's not really hard material. she really is an easy grader on presentations, though! she def. wants you to do well. I'd take her again.
Terrible teacher, she cant communicate in the slightest, but is convinced that she can teach a class on it. Changed her couse entirely from last semester, presentations/papers are easy, once you get used to the format but she doesnt explain how to do it
my room-mate had her first semester and i had her spring semester-she gave twice as many presentations and reports for my class. can NOT communicate. if you can, get another class!
awful. terrible, terrible teacher...assigns way too much work and is extremely boring. take someone else if you can...god
She doesnt go over the information very well, gives twice as many papers and presentations than any other gcom professor, and calls everyone stupid when she hands back assignments. But at least there are end of the semester evaluations to look forward to.
class is boring as hell. you might as well not go. way toooo many presentations and tests. she's very helpful if you need help though. Go to her office for help and she will give you extra bonus points.
She's not as bad as everyone says. True, she's kind of annoying and the class is boring, but its so easy. There may be more tests and presentations, but they're easy and they boost your grade. If you cant avoid, do. But dont stress about her, she's ok.
Yes, she's pretty crazy. It's almost entertaining how clueless the whole class can be at a given time, but all I can say is TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE EXTRA CREDIT ASSIGNMENTS. Have fun!
Dr. Leppington is a super sharp woman who knows her stuff and may be too intelligent for most freshmen. If you don't get it, talk to her and read the textbook. She is soooooo willing to help. She challenges you to think outside the box.
She is very helpful, but class time drags on because she is all over the place, very scatter brained and hard to pay attention to. She is unlear when she is trying to explain something. You're do 3 presentations within the first month of class! Insane!
leppington is not a bad teacher and is quite entertaining at times. gives extra credit the entire semester and most of your grades come from presentations that you give. even if you arent that great at public speaking she doesnt grade that firmly.

ok heres her (his?) deal. she thinks shes hilaroius and with her english accent u dont know what shes talking about 99% of the time but the material is easy and she goes over it all and theres alot of extra credit. tests are only worth 5%. and she has an attendence polociy but the class is an easy A
No Comments
She goes a little too fast, and the tests are rediculously hard but not worth too much of your grade. Too many presentations compared to other classes.
I liked her, class was easy, don't even have to really read the book, cause she has everything on powerpoints for you to print out. Gives a LOT of extra credit so use that to your advantage. Four presentations, but they're easy and with groups. She's english so uses different termanology sometimes.
Wicked!! She knows her stuff. Visit her office often, talk to her; she's really interesting. She'll help you. Extra credit out the ying yang.
7 foot tall, British GIANT. Can me intimidating. Gives A's on all presentations and papers. Tests can be tough if you don't study. She made me laugh because she is so tall. She knows what's she's talking about, so listen up and don't be skerd of her masiveness.
very unpleasant
She really is so nice, I don't know why there are bad marks. Yes, the tests are hard, but not worth a lot. Tries to help you as much as possible, and extra credit all the time. Take her, as long as you can keep up with work you'll be fine!
arrogant, unclear, snide remarks if you ask a question. presents the material with a lot of philosophical influence. although attendance policy, very easy a. just go in with an open mind about her personality and the material. or get high before class.
Tests are hard. They don't count a lot. Prepares you for the final. Four presentations. She's really nice. Tries to help you out the best she can. She knows her stuff. Public speaking is my worst fear, but I got out with a B+ even after completely botching my first two speeches. Take her.
Ms Leppington uses her size to tower over and intimidate her students. Arrogant and rude. Dont cross her or she'll berate you. Every little exercise you may do in this class is a test of you I mean EVERY ONE so be careful. To her benefit she gives lots of extra credit and tests barely matter.
HUGE BRITISH GIANT! so incredibly picky on presentations it is almost impossible to please her. she made both sections do their 4th presentations OVER AGAIN because they werent good enough. soooo arrogant. way too into sexual jokes and comments.

She is very weird. Her sense of humor is off and her class is kind of dull. She isnt hard, but she did make us redo our final presentations which sucked. Half of the time you don't know you have assingments due. You will not feel prepared for the final at all. Always let us out 20-30 minutes early.
She may be hard for GCOM, but I took her for conflict and learned a lot! She takes you beyond simple regurgitation and you actually get to learn things in context for real life. Yes, she can be unclear on her expectations but theres so extra credit and shes really helpful

A very nice and helpful person. She graded based on the amount of effort put it, tests counted for 5%. She definitely prepares you for the final. Very personable and caring, she likes to help students.
Kind of weird, but her humor was pretty random and funny. Classes are boring but you get through just laughing at her. Presentations were stressful, but she's very helpful and grades very fairly. Tests were always hard, but they hardly matter at all and there's tons of extra credit so it's almost impossible to fail!
really nice, she is so funny. there is tons of extra credit and you can do as much as you want. take her she was one of the best professors i had freshman year.

Ridiculous class. Awful teacher. Boring subject. GCOM consists of taking ordinary everyday occurrances and assigning stupid names to them. Leppington only made it worse with her unrealisic expectations and random, stupid jokes.
Had 4 presentations;are stressful and involve some work but gives A's most of the time. For presentations had to do long outlines.Tests hard but can work w/other people. Lots of extra credit(it's sorta hard tho) and she's willing to help you out @ office hours. Attendance policy!Schedule and assn.'s all online, really annoying! STUDY FOR THE FINAL!
Really made me get over my fear of public speaking. I completely bombed the first presentation, but Leppington worked with me to get over it. Work for the presentations can be lengthy, and half of the time I had no idea what she was talking about, but you pull through it. I ended with a B+. Do what she tells you to do, it'll help you get by!
Really did not like this class/teacher. She assigns 4 (!) presentations, 5 for our class because she made us redo one. Lectures with powerpoints which bored me out of paying attention within minutes. Fair grader I suppose but yeah overall a bad teacher. Dont take unless you like being bored to tears and having to do tons of work
She is pretty out there...doesn't make much sense and I took Comm and Conflcit and learned nothing about conflit. But not too hard...just do the readings and do well on projects. She'll give you the test questions before hand.
All in all I thought she was a pretty good prof, I didn't realize how much I had learned UNTIL after I was talking about it with friends who took the class before and I could actually remember things. I recommend reading and doing the study guide ahead of time and set deadlines a week ahead of the presentation and you'll be fine!
Warning: this class has nothing to do with conflict. She goes on her own tangents about things like quantum physics(3 weeks). Her lectures are disorganized and she never gives a complete description of what she is talking about. I did not learn anything and I am very dissapointed in my experience. Avoid taking at all cost.
This entire class revolves around the Rothwell text, which is boring. She grades presentations very fairly. I thought my groups did horrible but we got decent grades. Most of her assignments are unclear as everything is outlined online but not explained in class. She is a very interesting woman.
Aww, guys come on, she's not that bad. I had her for GCOM, and yes, while the class is like eating sandpaper, Leppington made it as interesting as she could. Plus, there is no reason to complain, because there are extra-credit quizzes every week, and she allows you to do as much outside extra-credit as you want.
This class is not that exciting but Leppington does at least present in a very interesting way and is very animated. When she gives you requirements its whats required for a C but shell never tell you that. Not the worst class ever but you can prolly find better instructors.
She actually made a group mate of mine cry. She is ruthless and a very difficult teacher. If you can switch out of her class or do no sign up she is that bad.
The class is not hard at all. We only had two presentations and I got A's on both, and I'm a horrible public speaker. Leppington is crazy though, she makes the most bizarre examples that make no sense, and is really random. Her teaching style is terrible as well, read the powerpoints on your own. Only allowed 2 absences.
RL is tight. She really is. Hard tests, but then our class was a lot better prepared for the final(everyone takes the same one) than other classes. Can be mean at times, snaps at chatty girls but it was worth it to watch her 6'6 figure come crashing down after slipping on a melting snowball a student had brought inside. LOL
Quite possibly the largest woman I've ever met. Her lectures are really disorganized and I really never had any idea what the hell was going on half the time. She had her random outbursts of hilarity but for the most part, be prepared to have a "what the hell" look just plastered on your face the whole semester
Completely disorganized class. We had no grades until the 8th week. No one understands what she's talking about and it has nothing to do with communication or conflict. She can be amusing at times but is so hard to keep up with. You end up with an okay grade but you dont really know how.
She is insane, but she's easy.our 1st test was cancelled, 2nd was online (unlimited time & number of times to take).we have 3 speeches.first was 90 sec, second 20 min & third 15-20 minutes (all in groups). She is very disorganized & majority of the time you can spaceout yet end wit a good grade.Midterm she said everyone gets a B+ no matter what?!?!?
She is one of the tougher GCOM teachers. The class is very sporadic and she doesn't always remind you when stuff is due. She grades pretty critically on presentations, so make sure you practice. However, if you study and put time into it, you can get a decent grade, B to A range. She is pretty "out there" as a person.
Unbelievable. Random stories that are unrelated to ANYTHING, one grade in the class, and a "final" that is done by the whole class. Teaching? More like rambling and letting group projects do the teaching. Ugh.
In my four years at JMU I have never had a more useless, disorganized, pointless class/professor. I got absolutely nothing out of this class and it made me want to switch my concentration from conflict.
ComCon, took her in Fall 08, really chill and interesting. Go in with an open mind and even if you don't agree just buy into some abstract thinking for a few hours a week and have fun with it. Very few assigments/tests, truly wants to to know the Communication 2 model. Good luck!
she cant teach, insults you and tells you your stupid. no one knoes what she's talking about. terrible terrible terrible teacher. avoid forever.
This class was awful, she has a lot of random stories about nothing. She puts you down in front of the class, and doesn't even know what is on her own project descriptions. Attendance is mandatory every class, or your grade goes down. Also, she takes forever to grade things. Save yourself the agony and take someone else's class.
Nothing makes sense and asking questions is useless. You can do everything that she asks you too for an assignement and still not do well. I have yet to learn anything from the class and I doubt I will.
I'm not even halfway through the semester and i'm hating everytime i have to walk into that boring, useless class. she's supposed to be a communications teacher but she can't give us a clear idea of what she wants on any assignment!... but if you like being bored to tears or getting insulted feel free to take this class...
I think the class is totally useless and pretty much all common sense. The presentations are ridiculous and too much work. Easy work, but too much. As far as Prof. Leppington goes, she's a little out there but I find her completely hilarious and very down to earth. She knows what she's talking about and I like her.
I have no clue why her ratings are so low. This is seriously the easiest class you will take at JMU. She is s freaking nice, and completely hilarious. She is from England and I love listening to her talk while she teaches. She knows what shes talking about and never wants to stress us out. Its a lot of work, but its easy, simple work.
This class is pretty straight forward. You do the work and you get a good grade. She's a bit of a tough grader and doesn't really explain what she's looking for, but I didn't think this class was too challenging. I'd recommend her, she's better than some of the alternatives.
shes really nice and likes to joke a lot, isnt too serious about class. lectures are boring, just going through powerpoints. only 2 group presentations and you get them done at the start, so theyre out of the way. one paper at the end of the semester and thats it. quizzes pretty easy if you read and tests are sometimes in groups
This class wasn't very hard, but SO BORING. I definitely recommend someone else. I hated going on days when she would just lecture. She is really nice, but often makes jokes no one understands and the way she explains things is confusing. There are many mini chapter quizzes, 2 group presentations, and a final.
I really like this teacher. Two presentations and they're done towards the beginning of the semester and gotten out of the way. Certainly going into the presentations you feel like you don't have enough time and you're not sure what you're doing, but in the end you turn out okay. The lectures can be entertaining and boring Overall I liked her.
leppington is amazing, her reviews do not give her justice. she is british, sassy and very funny, take her class she was amazing and actually made me love public speaking
Professor Leppington is great! Her jokes are sometimes funny because you don't understand them. Two presentations, not a hard class. Do the extra credit assignments, you can bump up a whole letter grade! take her!
She makes boring material interesting. There is a lot of group work. You learn a lot even though you dont really realize it. Paying attention is easy.
Awesome lady. She makes mandatory, boring material interesting. You learn so much "common sense" in the class that you always thought you already had. Very interesting. Only 2 group projects and one paper that is really easy to write. She teaches according to the final, and gives LOTS of practice. Her practice games are really fun, nothing dull
She was very enthusiastic every class which made learning the information easy. Not a tough class at all as long as you don't slack off. Easy A. I would take her again.
Compared to my friends in other gcom classes, professor leppington is extremely easy, and an easy grader. 1 project in front of a camera and the other project in front of a class working with 4-5 other people. In class quizzes are the scratch and win ones and pretty easy if you skim the chapter prior to it.
Dr. Leppington lets class out early a lot. All of the quizzes and tests are group. Two presentations, one recorded which you don't watch in class and one 5 person one. Definitely recommend her. It is a laid back class. You won't have a hard time getting a B or higher, theres unlimited extra credit. This is not a class I ever have to stress about.
She is a nice woman, but hard to follow as a teacher. In class she rambles on about the same topics and does not cover the information that you are tested on. Her quizzes/tests are group and you can retry the questions until you get them right so the lowest pointage you can get for a question is 1/4 points. Lots of grades to boost you up to an A.
She is crazy but awesome at the same time. You think she's great until you don't understand something and can't get any help from her. The class itself is easy and all the quizs/tests are in groups. Create a one on one relationship with her and as questions come up, it will be easy to get information out of her.
WORST CLASS EVER! only take if you enjoy writing 10 page papers, keeping a log of everything that you do, and enjoy giving speeches without using notes and/or index cards. The amount of work that you put into each project will not reflect in your grade.
absolutely hated this class
