Extremely nice guy. Very willing to help. Class was too easy, but he is extremely fair.
Very nice professor. He knows what he is talking about. Expects you to know the material but not to remember everything. Great Pick!
nice guy. assignment is fair.
Professor MAD CHILL! Easy, helpful and knows what he is talking about. By the way he is also funny.
Heis a good professor. He is there to help you unlike the mean **** peterson. He understand the material in the course and assist you in learning too. You should him!!
great teacher, very nice guy too. always in his office to help.
Takes his time to cover material in detail. Learned a lot. Don't buy the book, no need for it really. He posts PowerPoints and goes over everything you need for the projects.
Explains in-depth. Took him in the summer, so we only had a 3 projects and a Final. I beg to differ with the person who didn't buy the book. BUY THE BOOK. Open note, open book test and alot of the stuff was in the book and not on PPT.
Good Professor, takes the time to help you with your projects. Take him for MIS 371, you'll be glad. And BUY THE BOOK!
EASY A! He does not tell you what he wants or how, you just have to do it and he gives you an E for excellente anyway. Buy the book, quizes are online and open note/book. He has a heavy Japanase Accent in addition to a lisp... he IS VERY NICE though.
Knew nothing of Networking before taking this course. REALLY learned A LOT. He does a good job. Invites questions which you should ask if anything is not crystal clear. He is cute in a quirky kind of way. Life experienced and able to share that knowledge effectively which is always helpful.
Very nice guy. 4 projects. Gives you step by step instructions. Will answer any questions you have about the project. Just go to class, and make sure he knows who you are. I also knew nothing about networking before this class, and actually learned a lot. Very easy. Highly recommended.
Very easy and helpful. Take him if you have a chance. very funny too.
Excellent teacher. Puts lectures on blackboard, which makes material clear. Has accent, but not too bad. Had to do rather large group project, but it wasn't too bad. Would defintely take again.
I took him for a 3 week coarse and it wasn't too bad. We had 1 quiz (80 questions) -and it was take home--and 1 group project which was a little detailed and annoying. I ended up getting an A- and i never spoke in class.
great teacher. Took in post 3 week summer session and easily got an A. Make sure he knows who you are, and keep close contact with him when doing your project.
It's a boring class. You are put into groups for the semester and make a few small group presentations in addition to the large final group project which is worth 50% of your grade. Only one exam. Dr. Xing is a very nice guy, is always available to answer questions, and cares about the students.
I think this professor is an unfair grader. Those who work hard get a worse grade than those who do minimal work.
This professor is great. Take him in the summer. Easy quizzez, just do good in presentation and you will do fine.
Took the summer course.Very easy grader. Sometimes tough to comprehend (accent) but has no problem repeating himself. All material on tests from his ppts. Easy A. Im taking him again for a normal semester course.
He was gone for almost a month, the classes were pretty boring and you felt like he was teaching you basic computer information (i.e. this is a mouse, that is a keyboard). I thought class would be more database design and management oriented. Feel like I got ripped off $1700. Easy grade if you need to pull up your GPA, otherwise avoid.
Very easy class. Minimal effort needed. Knows his stuff and is a nice guy.
Took him in the summer. He is extremely hard to understand but he's quite an easy grader. Cares more about the final project than the whole course itself. I would take him in the summer. It is a lot of work though for 3 weeks. Be ready!
By far the easiest class I have taken so far.... I would take him again. Easy A!
Nice guy. A lot of group work, so if you don't like that then don't take him. Other than that it's a really easy A.
This is an easy class. 2 group assignment where you will have to present. Midterm is online, and Final exam is a group presentation. He can get smart at times but its an easy A
Easy class. Midterm take home project and final is an online exam. He is great Easy A here
He is fantastic teacher. No finals!!! Understands students very well!!! We had a longer (3 classes) off for thanksgiving. I am so happy that I am taking another one of my classes (elective) with him.
Easy clas? may be. because he gives a lot of work. group projects are gud but they are hard. however he doesnt curve at all. Final is online but the exam is not based on what he teaches. It's completely out of topic. YOu really have to teach your self. People say he is easy but trust me you won't learn anything. It's not that easy as it seems.
He may be reall easy for other courses he teach but for GNED omg, He's the worst soever..Take him for other courses but not for GNED. stay away from him. He gives mad work and his tests are pointless, completely opposite of what he teaches. Take someone else.
He doesn't know how to teach....boringgg..as hell.TEsts are hard no matter how much you read.
BOring..Useless. doesn't know how to teach. stay away from him. Take someone else who knows how to teach.
I took his GNED303 course last year but I liked him much. He gave lots of updated info other than stay in text. He was very professional and informative professor.
This professor is a business issues orientated person. Very updated, informative and practical as well. Teamwork, case study are his concerns. Do you like stick on text? I don't. I vote him.
I got B from this course two years ago, but no complaint. Boring? not really. The course offered with interesting topics that I knew very little before. I enjoyed working with team and learning several real-world issues. A worth taking class anyway.
i just finished my summer course. 6 assignments (including case studies), 1 quiz (was hard), 1 final project, pretty heavy. i got b+, lower than expected. but i learned a lot. to my surprise, the professor almost remembered everyone's name -- 33 people, in 3 weeks. i liked him. he was pretty professional.
I got A from this summer course. I did not think it's an easy A at all. Lots of works and writing, readings. Plus, you have to impress the professor in the classroom - be active and have him remember you!
Ahh...this course is going to be done soon and lots of works to be handled. But one thing I can share with you is -- absolutely worth to take, while I don't know my final grade yet. Xing's part is very updated and practical. It made me to consider switching my current social science major to Business or Technology..
5 hands-on projects orientated , time-consuming class. Plus, final and writing. If you're text-orientated person, this class is not for you. Many of our folks learned a lot and benefited for our major and future works! I like it much.
10 team based assignments, a midterm plus a final. Lots of works. I got B - below my expectation. Both tests weren't easy. Prof. Xing's part has no text so you really need to focus on his ppt and lectures VERY carefully. His part was quiet interesting and challenging though. I think it's very useful and practical. It's worth taking anyway.

I got A, but it wasn't an easy one. I spent lots of time to read, prepare group works and exams (tests were tough). Professor curved our grades fairly. I think my hard work paid off.
His Networking class is real super! I used most I learned in last term for my job. I beat my boss! Focus on communications with him. He cared how seriously you are! Hands-on is his philosophy!
Just finished this course. I know very little about the tech parts and was under pressures taking all the assignment and lectures. The final was not easy and don't know my grade to now. I feel I learned a lot useful stuffs here anyway. Worth taking.
OK, here is what I can share with new folks who will take this course. The course was handled by two professors. Xing's part has no need the text but his ppts. He looked a professional and knowledgeable in his part with many updated stuffs. I gained. I was a bit bored with his partner parts though.
Be careful for saying this is an easy class! Lots of works (assignments, midterm, final projects and final exam) spent time with groups. Plus, Xing's part has no text, be very careful for his ppts and lectures. Not be scared though. I learned quit a lot interesting stuffs and very updated. No easy A!!
finally, this 3-week-summer-course is over! i was very tired during this short term and with big pressures including 3 assignments, one paper test and final project and a paper. however, i believe my work paid off -- i learned the quite a lot updated biz and tech issues and ways to handle future jobs...
I took this for the Summer and I am glad to say it was a good investment. The professor is fair and he knows a great deal about the material so he is knowledgeable of the subject matter. He goes mainly by ppt and is big on presentations, so prepare to have at least 3 and also a paper. If you are serious about it, it's an easy A.
Great Professor and fair grader. Recommended. Easy Class
I received B from his class. But I do like this professor deeply - he is an extremely knowledgeable, professional, interesting, carrying, and responsible scholar. Most importantly, he leads us learn not just from the text but most updated related business issues. Supper!
Oh boy, finally get this heavy intensive summer class done with B+ received. It worth taking this class though. Learned a lot, business orientated fashion and very helpful one.
the professor is hot, his lecture is cool, the class is true business based. if u won't be curbed by old text based classroom, he is your choice.
folks, i got A from this class, not an easy one though. u have to be seriously taking his teamworks, class activities, talking, asking, answering are his count. the professor is very knowledgeble, professional person. his wall-street background made his lectures up-to-date, and stays with real business world.
This is a very unique professor who is very knowledgeable, informative, and helpful with his lectures. He is not picky on our text, but very seriously handling his lectures, ppts and assignments. Attendance is count but very reasonable. He seemed care more your performance and communications than your scores.
5 hands-on projects which include one of them as the midterm. Online final and 1 page writing. Dont really need the book. Projects are Ttime consuming class but overall not too bad for a 300 level class. Nice professor!!
Lots of works and time consuming with team as well. If you follow the prof. in his directions, you learned quite amount of interesting info, little from the text but most from the real stories and updated biz world. He is a very knowledgeable prof with lots of good resources beyond of boring texts.
the group project was the most important thing for him ,participation in class is a must, easy class, one exam and the project
I just noted my final grade was B that below I expected. Fairly speaking, this is a very practical and helpful course I ever took. Understand English is not his native tone, but no problem to communicate at all.
Shared with some other folks and we believed that the professor cared much more on our classroom participation, performance, and seriousness than your regular assignments and test rates, which is a kind of unique fashion I like.
I did not expect this course giving as deep tech details as our IT courses do. It turned out that this one was much deeper, practical than I have taken from my dept. Time consuming with 5 hands-on projects including a midterm project, and a final exam. I must say I learned a lot from my hands! It's hard but worth taking.
It's a uneasy and time consuming course. After completed, I feel not just relieved but learned a lot from his teaching, in particular from the projects. It worth taking for sure. A nice, caring and funny professor too.
if u expect an easy A from this professor, you're wrong. the professor is very seriously counting how seriously and professionally you join his class. he is pretty knowledgeable with great business background. lots of works and time needed to spend. i learned quite a lot real-world issues and business topics. good one to take.
My fav teacher of all time at MSU. His class is more group work and cases/exercises than exams. Had him for 290 as well. LOVED HIM! He made me love to participate and talk in class. Pretty funny too. Only down side is exams are tricky
I received A- beyond my expect, no complain though. the class was very informative, business-world orientated. Important to know this professor that he doesn't just pay attention on your scores, he cares how seriously you take his class a lot. His weights class performance with 15 points that can make you above or below your expected grade!!
As I was questioned, here is something to share: Very useful, practical contents to learn but time consuming, not so easy to handle hands on project easily. Professor didn't care much the text but classroom participation. You need be seriously taking his class.
one of most helpful parts from this class was that the professor brought up much updated info from the real business world other than books. he is very experienced with long-term business management from wallstreet companies he worked before. be carefull though, he pays lots attentions on your participations other than your earned scores.
Happened find this website. I took his courses Emerging Tech and Business Continuity Planning and feel very helpful and informative. I knew little on both topics before and really enjoyed the contents this professor provided for our MBA students.
Very easy! Assignments are in the book but are only a page. Has an accent which can cause problems at time but all in all, good professor.
He's a good professor. 6 case studies, 1 project and 1 final quiz. Knows a lot about the business world and teaches from that perspective.
The summer session was very helpful, informative, and heavy though. The lectures along the cases, discussions and projects were quite practical, challenging and updated. The professor is knowledgeable, caring, and funny. I like this course.
This guy is incredibly intelligent. He's super knowledgable. Cases are practical. He has a great sense of humor. You'll do fine.
Best prof. only 5 case study , one online quiz , Must attend 3% of your grade is base on attendens one team project , sometimes not clear with what he want but very eassy A take him
I received B from this course that wasn't as expected - so I disagreed someone saying an Easy A course. I really liked this class though. Learned a lot from both business and tech sides that I have never known that much. This professor seemed a quite different from others - he stayed with real business side a lot and shared so many updated issues
Don't need the textbook at all All course topics are put on a PowerPoint on Canvas Has a thick Chinese accent but it does not matter because you don't need to understand him to pass because their are no quizzes just one simple online final (use Google!) and a group project. Become the groups manager and you get extra points added to your grade
Good professor who is very passionate about his subject. It might be confusing to understand at times with the thick accent but other people are in the same boat and everything will be clarified a few times at the end of lectures. I ended up learning a lot which i actually didn't expect to. You wont use the textbook either. Take him.
Professor Xing is a great teacher. He knows his stuff and offers a comfortable environment for a student to be themselves. You don't need to buy a book for the class from my knowledge, everything is on PowerPoint (especially his quizzes). He can be hard to understand at times, but he still informs well.
I enjoyed Dr. Xing's class, but I'm an adult student with work history, so the subject matter was familiar, and I found it to be informative. Working with others is essential bc every case is based on group participation. Overall, an extremely enjoyable class.
Loved this class, I learned a lot. We worked through powerpoints each class then had assignments due on canvas each week (short and easy). He is very easy going, tests were online and based entirely on the powerpoints they could have been easier but I still did fine. One group presentation at the end which was easy enough. He was very supportive.
Hard to understand thick accent, dosent give clear instructions but will let you redo assignment if you ask. dont need the book he takes attendance every class and you loose alot of point if only absent once not a bad teacher just very vague
Class was easy, gives 4 case studies, just follow the writing guide lines and you will do fine. Semester long group project, which wasn't to hard once he approves your idea. Only gives one short online quiz at the end of the semester and you don't have to buy the book. He is difficult to understand, but very passionate about the subject.
He is a little hard to understand but it very funny and barley gives out homework. You have a group project and you work with your group members throughout the whole semester, make sure you get 100' s on those assignemnts
While this class is fairly easy, I don't understand why his rating is so high. His accent makes it hard to understand him and he is not clear anything he gives you, especially the group project. Took this as a hybrid and he required us to log on canvas during a certain time to count towards our "online hours"...?? It was so stupid & inconvenient...
I learned a lot from this course. The professor was serious for your attitude and focused on updated business concerns. Provided good opportunities to visit OIT center and a good guest speech. The course was very practical and business orientated one. It worth to take.
This is a required core course and the professor counts the grade comprehensively. He seemed count more class participation than the real homeworks. If you're seriously participating, questioning and answering, you'll be doing fine. Regard the course contents, I did learned a lot and feel very updated and interesting.
This course was extremely challenging and helpful. Info security is truly an major concern for today's businesses and technologies. Professor's hands-on project made me learned great deal of real security skills and understood how they should be managed. English is not his first language, but no problems for communications at all. Great course.
this course I handled with lots of works and I received b+.(expected getting an easy a or least a-). While my grade was bit disappointing, be honest, this is a very informative and practical course i ever took. This professor is from business circle and he certainly teaches what biz concerns and most updated tech issues. i think my work paid off .
this is absolutely not an 'easy A' class. but certainly worth to take if you care about your knowledge and career. I noted that the professor cares more about your participation and attitude than how your assignments doing. The professor looks a business manager than a scholar. His lecture is very updated and practical with all business concerns.
Taking him for the 2nd time and would take him for anything. He always lets us go an hour early. The class is usually lecture for an hour then 20-30 minutes of easy open discussion of an online reading (nothing too intense). An easy enough assignment every other week. Very easy going classroom environment. If you give ANY effort you'll be fine.
Well, it is true that the professor is easy going if you follow his instruction carefully. He'd be giving you a hard time if you don't perform seriously and professionally. He cares about your attitude. He never hold his lecture till the end, (I believe we all love short lecture), and leave us with group activity and case study. I like the way.
Assigns 5 project assignments for the entire semester, all are easy just follow directions, show up to class and participate a little (he loves people who actually try) Lectures can be a bit dull, but overall easy class
As long as you go to class and try to pay attention you should have no problem!
Professor is an awful professor to say the least. He is rude, has no common sense and is very difficult to understand. His lectures are very boring and difficult to hear what he's saying. The main grade for the class is a group project, but he gives no format or direction for it. Don't take this guy
Ruben Xing is really easy going, but sometimes he can be a bit rude. Easy class and it definitely does not take a lot of effort. I took this as a freshman with juniors and everyone finished with A's. He seems intimidating but he's not.
oh man do you ever feel like you like something but you dont? thats how i feel about him. i like him but i dont. his assignments are easy, 4 group assignments, 1 individual take home final and a group presentation. he's a tough grader but gives you good feedback. he might get rude for no reason which is why i dont like him.
His high ratings are very confusing to me, as are his classes and homework. He gives you no information on how to do the homework and sent us a random test due 2 hours before class and most of us had to do it during other classes. Take literally anyone else this man doesn't care about his students and if you have even one question you will fail.
A very knowledgeable professor. Like his business background from WallStreet
He's probably the hardest professor I had at Montclair. He assigns these impossible assignments with little instructions on how to do them and expects you to know everything. It's like being taught by a computer because you can't really get a human feeling from him. He never listens to the students. I would highly recommend do NOT take.
Do not buy the book. No big midterm/final exams, only online quizzes based on the chapters and case studies for homework. However, there is one big final project with NO clear explanation. We are coming to the end of the semester and we are still clueless. He does not provide any guidance. It can either make or break your final grade.
Although I did not get a top grade, I really like this professor who gave us all up-to-date knowledge staying in real world. He came from the Wall Street has rich business experiences that helped a lot in classroom, and the text could not tell.
First of all, I was a B+ receiver from Prof. Xing's class of INFO414 (could not find this code from this portal) - Info Security Management. I must admit that this is not an easy class and needed lots hands-on works. Anyway, It helped me a lot to learn cyber security from dummy level I enjoyed!
I miss this course and the professor Xing. He is a real scholar who make the course in a real world and up-to-date, other than stay in text. Very practical, dynamic
I am a MBA student and took one of classes taught by prof. Xing. His lecture inspired me with much up-to-date technical trends and challenges in a real business world. It helped my work and annual report to my company. He is not only knowledgeable, but caring and encouraging. Highly recommend taking his courses.
I wasn't in MIS major, I was bit nervous as I knew little about IT. This class (now INFO414) is heavy with required hands-on project. Fortunately, I learned so much what IT and cyber security mean by doing the projects. The projects were clearly guided and easy to follow. The professor is very knowledgeable and helpful!
This is the most confusing professor Ive ever had. It is clear that English is not his first language so it can be hard to understand him. But even going beyond that, the assignments that he gives have VERY little instruction. He does not provide clear feedback at all! I personally have zero idea what any of the feedback he has given me means.
Very funny, and knowledgeable, practical also caring professor. English is clearly not his first language yet there was no issue for clear communications. Like his Wall Street experience, and up-to-date info.
He is sometimes hard to understand, and his feedback sometimes does not make sense either. Even though I got a good grade, the class was really confusing and his instructions were not clear at times. Was never really sure what he wanted, and no one else seemed to know either. Class was okay and his lectures were hard to understand at times.
Would not take again. Especially for a three week period, not really clear and kind of difficult.
Did not go over the material once in class. 1 group project, 4 quizzes, 1 Tableau project, & 4 case studies. Posted video lectures on Canvas. Said it was synchronous, but felt more asynchronous bc we never had class. During group presentations, he was so rude interrupting students. Very unclear in his directions. HORRIBLE professor!
An awesome professor. Even took the course online, it was very helpful and informative with all updated info and knowledge learned.
The course code should be INFO563 but not listed on the web here. The professor has a great background, worked at Wall street many years as senior manager plus a strong academic experiences. I strongly believe that business school professors should have both business and academic experiences other than from school to school.
I never had this Professor but apparently he made a very rude and sexist remark towards women. I was told by a friend who's currently taking the one of his courses. BEWARE!!! P.S. Remember women do count in everything especially when it comes to college graduation!!!
Learning how to write commands for the first time can be confusing but most of them I were able to find online. Its not too bad of a class, you write 2 one-paged papers on IT security topics and present them in class, and 4 Hands on Projects. Sometimes if u ask for help, it can be kind of difficult to communicate with him.
It was an online class with big challenges for all of us. Fortunately the prof. handled very well, made the course went through clearly and smoothly. He prepared the class carefully with most updated knowledge and info that the textbook did not cover. He cares and responded all of our questions quickly and clearly. I like him.
The school is about reopen soon. I should rate one of class I took in Spring 2021 - INFO563 Info Sys Strategy. As it was fully online, I did not expect much. It turned out though, the professor prepared the course nicely and clearly. His up-to-date info brought from Wall Street and active collaborations made me quite comfortable.
i took this online class. it wasn't bored than a regular one. lots of new stuffs this professor brought in from his previous business. the coursework was designed clean and neat, easy to follow as the recorded lectures helped much to review. he was strict during the semester but was nicely graded for most of us. i like this professor.
folks, i was asked to view how this prof. handled this course. while he was quite strictly and seriously requesting our assignments, participations during the semester, i was pressured and bit nervous taking all the required tasks, it paid off by the end. i was impressed that he graded us in a very flexible and reasonable way. i got an unexpected A
I reviewed some of MBA courses I've taken. Info563 was a challenging, online MBA course. Most of us were satisfied with the up-to-date course contents the professor integrated to his ppts, the collaborated modality he handled. English isn't his first language, yet there weren't communication issues at all. A good course to take.
Professor makes you feel dumb b/c when can't understand questions. don't waste money on a textbook - won't use it. Don't watch the lectures, HEAVY language barrier that makes learning super tough. I considered dropped this summer course (2.5 weeks) the professor is so bad.
I was very nervous for taking this online course because of so many assignments during the short term in summer. The professor was seriously requesting the high quality of all assignments, due date, and participations. I thought my grade would be lower but it turned out I got A-. I think that If you work hard, he will help you.
I took the professor's info563 class last Spring, and utilized some of learned knowledges for one of my business projects. It helped a lot and impressed of VC! I really appreciate his Wall Street working experience he shared in this class. Very practical and helpful.
I must rate one of awesome courses I took - info414 - info security (there is no such code though) i was worried before the class since I had little knowledge of IT security or IT skills. Yet the well designed course helped me learned a lot the best part was its hands-on project. i won't understand IT without my hands!
When I was about to complete the required courses, I reviewed my past learning experience. Strategy Information system was one of the most informative and meaningful courses I have studied. Prof. Hsing (Xing) provided several latest business and technical focused areas, which helped me a lot in my work, and could not get from textbooks.
I like this professor but I think he was over-tolerated our class for someone who keep delaying their homework. It would be unfair for us who always complete the assignments timely. His lecture was very helpful and up-to-date.
There is no corresponding course no.. I'd like to comment the information security course INFO414 the professor offers. I didn't get an A. As my major is far from the content I am concerned about. Objectively speaking, I have benefited a lot from the course. Especially every hands-on project helped me to learn skills that I have never touched.
This course designed very professionally and practically. It guided and helped my job interview a lot. The professor was strictly controlling the class rules but was very caring.
Gonna be the most honest review for this professor. Workload is not much. You are graded by two-three case studies, final project, two quizzes, a final quiz, tablue exercise, and participation. He charges a textbook off your tution so be aware of that. We don't really use it. A heavy language barrier. Unclear directions on assignments.
Very Informative. You can learn a lot. Heavy Language Barrier. Graded by very few assignments. Not clear with directions. recommend it because of the low classwork. Weird Grading Criteria but compared to the rest, a fairly easy class. Beware of Tabluea project. one class period to poorly explain what he wants.
I wasn't sure if I could pass this course as my background is quite different from this area. Yet, the professor's excellent instruction helped us completed the assignments that helped me learned most. My hard work paid off and this course is very informative, practical and helpful for my future career. Professor Xing is an awesome teacher.
I learned lots of updated knowledge from this course. The professor has amazing business background and is quite practical and knowledgeable in this area. The lecture contents could not be provided from the regular text. Clearly English is not his first language but did not bother our communications. Not an easy A class, Participation matters!
The professor's Wall Street Experience was impressive, it made this MBA class helpful, informative and well updated. Nice classroom handling, carrying, reasonable grading as well. No textbook but it's fine. Participation matters!
I took this course last year. This is a core required course. The designed lecture, contents, course activities, specially a professional guest speaker invited made this course practical, informative and helped a lot for my job. No textbook required - the course was very much up-to-date that the prof. brought from his business resources.
My last MBA course is ended with this one. While my grade wasn't perfect, (A-) I have no complaints. This course helped a lot for learning up-to-date business technologies in a real world. It is handled informatively and practically. Class activities (a lovely guest speaker too), are pretty collaborated, with no nervous and just happy air. :)
I took this course as I needed the credit to graduate. I wasn't even sure if I could pass this security course, I was working very hard to take the hands on works. This professor had strict requirement for the assignments, but he curved my grade (B) as I worked hard, no complain. I believe I learned a lot from the hands on works.
My grade wasn't as expected (B+) as I missed some attendance. The course contents designed well and up-to-date, be aware though, even your quiz score is high if you don't participate actively, the professor may don't like you.
I took his a short term online summer class with the regular amount of the required assignments, was quite nervous. The professor handled efficiently and fairly and I was graded fairly. His lectures are practical and up-to-dated that the text did not mention. English is not his native language, but this does not hinder our communications at all.
I took his class a year ago. It helped, practical and quite informative. I think that many of school business faculty are lack of experience from industry with less real business concerns. Prof. Xing is believed has both Wallstreet and academic experiences and his lectures are practical and up-to-date helped me a lot for my current job.
This is a technical concept based course, no textbook required. The professor is knowledgeable with extensive Wall Street and academic experiences, we don't find concept-based lectures boring. The professor was concerned about class participation, but reasonable. You must tell him the true story or he could be mad on you.
Prof. Xing is great. Lectures are long and can get boring since there's so much material but there are no exams. Quizzes are all take home and a couple group assignments throughout the semester and a final group project. Overall, hard class but the way he structures the class makes it manageable and easier to pass. Definitely taking him again!
He was a great professor and knew his stuff, but his accent was a bit hard to make out sometimes. I only understood his accent about 85% of the time. Other than that, his class was average difficulty, and the tests and assignments weren't too hard. Also sometimes his directions are a slight bit confusing. Other than that he was amazing
Professor demonstrated very details in class plus a step-by-step project that wasn't so confusing for me to handle. I got B from this class, yet it is better than I expected. it is a very helpful and informative course that helped me got a job! He is reasonable for grading but quite serious for attendance and your manner.
Not a very difficult course to pass but performance matters a lot. If you are not so seriously joining all the course tasks, you'll be troubled. The professor is from wall street with rich biz experiences. His lectures are very up to dated, even English is clearly not his first language, there is no communications issues at all.
Cybersecurity course is an elective one. I wasn't sure if I could handle since I knew very little IT. I worked hard and completed all the homeworks, specially hands-on projects. It helped a lot and made a very good sense afterwards. Professor is very knowledgeable also very strict for the class performance. It worth taking!
I love this mandatory MBA program. Professors well designed courses with technological innovation and strategic development. No textbook is good because the subject is so practical and up-to-date. A business professor should not just be an academic, but have practical experience in the business world, and Professor Xing is a good match.
290 is a required course. It is said a dry class. The textbook is optional. Apparently the course was redesigned by the professor and made the course much practical. I learned lots of new things. Be careful though, the professor cares much about participation. Otherwise you could be downgraded.
What a tough but amazing course the course is! It is tough but my hard work was well paid off. Lots of cybersecurity concepts I have never had before and hands-on project was so challenging. My grade wasn't so great but beyound my expectation. Once you followed and complete hands-on projects you gain a lot. The course is certainly worth taken.
It's heavy and pressured course during the short summer time. I thought that I might failed. The professor is very reasonable and grade not just our assignments but overall performance and attitude. Don't try to cheat and snicky anyway.
The professor is strict for required assignment, attendance but he is reasonable if you impress him and attend the class actively. Attitude matters.
A heavy hands on class. Was worry about my little knowledge but learned a lot through the hands on projects. Very practical helpful and informative class. My job is much benefited.
He cares about participation that I never missed any class and did not delay any homework. While my earned score wasn't as expected but I believe the professor curved me up for his final grading. He is reasonable and caring and I learned a lot.
It was a very practical and tech-orientated course. Highly hands-on project and participation required course. Super helpful. I was under pressures to complete heavy hands on assignments. The professor was very helpful and tolerable and it turned out a satisfied grade.
I was much benefited for my job from taking this core required course. Professor's uptodate knowledge and course materials helped a lot.
This is a quite distinguished class from other traditional ones. Very practical, stay in real world and the latest tech, biz topics. Very helpful but you need to participate actively.
I'm sitting in his class right now. His classes are boring in my opinion. There is a language barrier so it is hard to understand him (which is understandable). Pretty much all the work is group papers. It is the same groups all semester so if you get a bad group you're low-key cooked. But the work itself is not that hard.
The professor is knowledgeable but has a strong accent. Stay engaged, as participation is key. Unstuck AI was a lifesaver for practice and review. Overall, an informative course, though the workload can be intense.
I was very concerned about taking this hands-on class that I knew a little before. The professor provided clear demo along each lectures, I became much comfortable to complete the assignments. Most assignments are hands-on project in virtual lab. I learned a lot after this class and was much benefited for my work as well.
Very unclear with rubrics, and grades very strictly. Is very blunt and comes off as disrespectful at times. The workload is not too hard but his case study and final presentations were at times difficult because groups would spend more time trying to understand his rubrics than completing the task at hand.Does not leave any wiggle room for students
Honestly, he is not that bad of a professor, however, he does not clearly explain the majority of the assignments. He also does not accept anything late and will give an automatic 0. Other than that, the class isn't that bad. Not a lot of work either.
He is the worst professor that I have taken by far. 0 instructions on his assignments, that leaves the whole class confused. Only take him if you want a semester of stressing out over not understanding anything. I have no idea his rating is so high because he is terrible.
Unless you have no other choice, do not take this professor. Assignments were never explained properly & the communication was never made clear a lot of the time. Pretty much all assignments are group-based so you need a good working group to pass. I emailed him whenever I needed help but was always told to figure it out alone. Do not take
I don't understand how this professor has decent ratings. This is the hardest class I've taken because of his lack of instruction, it's overly focused on lectures and group work. The professor is incredibly difficult to deal with, openly rude and disrespectful during student presentations. His behavior is unprofessional and completely unacceptable.
I don't mind him as a professor, but his accent makes him hard to understand. His work is pretty straightforward; you have some case studies to do with your group that are easy, and when he wants you to "present," it's just sitting in your seat, talking to the whole class. Work is easy; he is just tough to deal with at times.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!!!!!
He is very disrespectful to the students when they present their group projects and he is a very hard grader. If you cant do group work do not take this class.
“DO NOT TAKE HIM”!!!!!! Doesn't grade fairly. He has fragile ego. He is not accessible outside class
Worst professor! He didn't allow groups to present because it lacked one aspect. Very rigid about things and unable to explain it clearly. Did not give any extra credit opportunities.
very intelligent but so boring. we had an assigned group for the semester for every assignment, which sucked. he was super harsh at grading the final assignment but the other assignments were easy as long as you followed his instructions in the syllabus. attendance was graded.
He was ok. He was hard to understand because he has a heavy accent and doesn't understand some of the questions students ask. He doesn't lay out clear guidelines for assignments. The case studies were pretty straight forward. I honestly don't think I learned anything. If you have the option to take someone else, do it, but he's not terrible.
This is an Info security course that helped me learned a lot through well designed hands-on projects
The class was very easy, but it depends heavily on the group you are assigned to from the beginning of the year. Also, most of the rubrics are unclear, but he is not that harsh a grader, so it's not that bad. Quizzes are open-note and easy. Would definitely recommend this course.
Very few assignments, but basically all group work which leaves your grade up to others a lot, tests very easy all open note/take home. Overall very easy class but he is hilariously confusing to interact with in class, did not actually learn much.
