Professor Kelly was one of the best teachers I have ever had. He is incredibly helpful. He fights tooth and nail if he feels his class was mistreated. Highly, highly reccommended!
I highly recommend taking this teacher. He teaches the material so well and his lessons are very organized. He gives extra time on quizzes if he knows the class is struggling. Attendance is mandatory and he does not like slackers. Stay on top of the material, show up and participate, and you will earn a fair grade.
Prof. Kelly is definitely THE best math prof. i have ever had. he actually cares about making sure you understand the material and will go well out of his way to help a student. it was my second time taking 108 and he managed to keep the material interesting and helped me with everything that gave me trouble. REGISTER FOR HIS CLASS. GREAT EXAM PREP
If it wasn't for Kelly then I'd probably never want to show up to NJIT. He's a great teacher, explains everything precisely, and gives great notes. Really chill and easy going, reviews for the commons with you. Overall amazing teacher, will never forget him. DO NOT MISS HIS CLASS OR SLEEP, he'll tear your ass up if he grades your test.
Maybe because it is Calculus 1, but the whole class struggled, (besides the few students who have seen the material in prior courses). He did, however, give a large amount of extra credit, his version of a curve. His tests were very hard and his review would be to go over every problem on the syllabus. He is not an easy A or B but he is fair.
Absolutely great professor right here. Unfortunately, it's not one of those classes you can sleep through or miss, cuz he directly deducts points from your test. But just go to class and listen, you will get a decent grade. One of the few NJIT prof. that know how to teach. Will try to take him again for higher math courses. Awesome guy.
If you're taking math class, TAKE THIS GUY! Besides the fact that he's a cool guy, he's also a great teacher and will do his best to help you if you're struggling
i had him for 108 and 109. he's one of the best things njit has to offer. a man who geniuenly cares about his students and wants them to succeed. awesome man. i would totally reccomend everyone take him
He's a great teacher. Really helpful and because of him I was able to pass. NJIT textbooks are overly complicated and hard to understand. He makes it seem easy and cuts out the the stuff not needed. He helps you study for the Commons and is willing to explain anything. Definitely recommended.
I'm not sure what to say about this guy. If you question him about his review he'll try to call you out in front of the class. He also has his favorites. I used to think he cared but after what I've seen my opinion has changed.
My favorite teacher at NJIT, if you show up to class and actually try, he is the nicest guy in the world. Any one who says other wise is screwing around on thier phone in class or skipping, he HATES this. He makes everything very clear and easy, does ALOT of examples, and is always fair to those who deserve it. Definitely take him!
He turned my F in Calc 1 into an A. He's definitely one of the most helpful math professors I've had up to this point. He breaks down all difficult topics making them easily understood. As long as you show up for class you should get a good grade. He does HATE people using their phones though.
Very good teacher, will help you in any way you need it. You will get an A in this class as long as you dont skip class and you try to learn. Only reason why I didnt was because I skipped a couple of classes and didnt do any homework. If he thinks you deserve to pass you definently will.
Best math teacher! goes everything very clearly and is always willing to help. he doesnt give more then like 2 homework problems a night and he keeps it real. idk how anyone could say anything bad about him. hes the best math teacher ive had here. and he looks like denzel washington lol
I got the highest grades in MATH in NJIT with this guy. He speaks English and is Denzel's Washington cousin. Easy to understand, has a lot of ways to bring your grades up. If you don't pay attention or Sleep or Cell phone and he will tear you apart. (He does this to discipline you so you can pass) He knows exactly whats on the exam which is great.
Dude's the best. Looks and acts just like Denzel Washington
best math 111 professor here. clear and understanding. nice guy and gives you points on quizzes for going to recitation. he gives you the key and help you understand it. if you have a chance to get him as a professor, do it
This is the best Math teacher at NJIT by far. He not only cares about his students but brings out the best in his students as well. Genuinely a nice guy and will give you good academic advice and will explain every thing in clarity and in layman's terms. He makes difficult concepts easy to understand and prepares students for the tricks on the exam
This guy right here is absolutely the best professor in the math department. Will go out of his way to make sure you grasp all the concepts in the material and provide thorough explanation. No matter what you must do to your schedule, make room for this Denzel Washington look-a-like.
Awesome Professor! The best math teacher at NJIT. Prof Kelly is extremely easy to understand. He teaches with a minimal amount of theory and tons of examples. You are an absolute roy if you cannot pass his class.
made me love math, now im a math minor. he explained everything to its full extent and even an alien would understand him. hes super clear, shows every angle, and will make you love it too. hes always organized with his appearance, time management, and examples. im highly upset the school didnt let him teach calc 3...
Professor Kelly is nice and everything but he's really into perfect attendance and you have to be exactly on time he. teaches the easiest problems in class but in exams he gives u the hardest from them all. The course was really easy but he just made it way too complicated. If u like challenges in easy courses take him, if good grades then don't.
He is a great proffesor. He is willing to help you pass the class. If you show improvement in the common exams, he will fight for your grade. He reviews alot which is very helpful for the commons, but you have to also show that you are committed on achieving a good grade. He is a great human being as will. I would recommend him any day.
Great Professor. I failed my last math class(same section different professor) and this time around with the way he explains things it all makes sense. It feels like a completely different class.
Its simple, if you want to pass Calc 2 ... take him!
this was his first time teaching math thats not for engineers so i think that he needs to adjust his way of teaching. also he can be harsh on grading tests and quizes. but he will give you most credit if you deserve it.
Nice guy, too hard on grading. Always includes from prior material on current section's tests so you must remember all old stuff on top of new material! Test problems are more complicated/difficult than homework. In class clarity is good but like most professors he skips steps which makes life hard for students who do not excel at math.
HE IS AMAZING! VERY HELPFUL! HANDS DOWN BEST PROFESSOR AT NJIT! RKELLYYYYYYY!
Failed 112 twice with two other professors. I finally understood what was going on in the class with him, and passed. Wish I could have taken him the first time around
This is an amazing professor, he is very clear, and cares about the class. He always gives reviews for the commons.
Solid professor to say the least. Explains himself and the lectures very well. His class is usually in the top 3 for best grades on the calc tests. If I could take him as a professor again I definitely would.
AMAZING PROFESSOR! Very helpful and explains until very well. Does the hard problems in the text so you are prepared for the difficult commons. Hurts him to see his students not do well. Always there for you. Wish I could take him again!
Professor Kelly always did his best to keep you calm and ready for the exams. He loves students who ask questions and will be there to help you whether via email or in class. If he can't answer you question via email, he will surely do it in class. Great professor! I wish he taught Calc 3. He isn't the loudest speaker so try to avoid the back.
Professor Kelly is not a good teacher. He can barely complete his own problems on the board without messing up. He has no patience to actually teach the material and offers no assistance or review when needed. He is quite condescending at times. He's a horrid grader and takes off almost all points for a small mistake (ie. missing negative sign).
Don't skip classes, he hates it and you will indeed miss a lot. He's been in the NJIT Math Dept. for a long time so he knows what is going to be on the exams. He gives plenty of examples from easy to hard. Just be cooperative and you will succeed in this course. Definitely recommend. He really wants you to pass.
He's a great professor, gives lots of examples and really makes sure you get it. He tries to give a quiz every week and will give you an answer key after. Kelly will have review before each common and will also review the common the day after you take it.
The Best professor I've ever. he is Very clear. Knows how to teach
Literally he is so amazing. I don't think I've ever understood calculus so well as I do now and I took calc in high school. He's very clear, takes his time with teaching, and gives many many examples.
Very tough grader. He had a TA grade one of our tests and then took them back and regraded them because he thought the TA was too easy on us.
Really great teacher. Goes over several examples during lectures and before tests. You will definitely pass his class with a clear understanding.
This is probably one of the greatest teachers I have ever had. He actually cares about all the students and not just the ones who are succeeding. Would HIGHLY recommend!
Rudy Kelly is the best math professor I have had so far at NJIT. He is a tough grader, but does a good job making sure the class gets enough practice problems .
Honestly, hands down, my favorite teacher ever. Makes Calc 2 ENJOYABLE. I'm at NJIT, Calc 2 is often seen as the harbinger of the end here, but with this Prof, I actually look forward to math. He genuinely cares, and teaches fantastically. If you can take his class, do it, pay attention, and you're guaranteed to do well.
Great professor!
Prof. Kelly not only teaches the course material in a clear and concise manner, he is very aware of the infamous reputation Math112 has and makes students feel safe and secure. He goes over several sample problems that will be on the exam and will even go out of his way to relay any information that he thinks will be useful for the exams.
The best professor in teaching, assisting, and grading. Very reasonable professor; knows what will be on exam and only focuses on those problems. Gives your points back if the coordinator takes off points unnecessarily. His teaching technique is incomparable; even calc 1 student can understand what he is talking about. Never miss a class & pass.
Overall Professor Kelly is a very respectable man. He always makes sure that you leave every class with a good understanding of the lesson. He does lots of examples and textbook problems in class especially the more difficult ones that he thinks may be on the exam and it turned out he was always right! He will fight to get you points back on exams!
I am taking Professor Kelly's Calc 2 class right now, and honestly speaking, he is a great professor. He cares about you succeeding, and wants to guide you there. He makes it clear from the getgo for no phones in class. If he sees you constantly on it, he will let you fall. Put in the work, and show your willing to work and he will guide you.
Great Professor. If you pay attention in class and do the HW, you will get an A. He is very good at Explaining concepts. Shows many examples in class. He is Amazing Professor.
Honestly the best mathe proffesor on campus. He genuinely cares about each student in all of his classes and brags about his low failure rate. He will answer any question no matter how small, and ensure that every student understands. He knows that teaching is more than a lecture. The best man I've ever met.
Professor Kelly is amazing, he knows how to control a room and how to teach. He always wants students to be prepared for homework and tests. He does A lot of practice problems and will email you any information not covered in class. He is available out of class during office hours or through email. Took calc 2 and 3 with him and learned a lot.
Professor Kelly really wants you to understand the material and is one of the best professors I have ever had. He has a quiz weekly and recitation where you can get 2 points added onto your quiz grade. Ask questions in class and he will help out. He does a lot of practice problems in class and doesn't rush through material.
Calc 2 at NJIT is an incredibly hard class but professor Kelly does an amazing job of explaining the material and prepping for the exams. Make sure to go to class and participate. He's excellent about answering questions in class, just make sure you are extremely clear in what you are asking.
Professor Kelly is very in tuned with his classes. He quickly grasps how well his class handles subject material and knows when to take more time with certain sections. He hates cell phones and does not let the class "space out". Come to class, engage in class and homework, and you will pass.
Very good teacher. He does make minor calculation and concept mistakes here and there, but he will always do his best to clear up complications and confusions with the coursework. I'm confident that I'm learning the subject correctly and optimally in his class. Pretty funny too.
I did poorly in this class for health reasons but he always taught the material well, explains clearly and loves to answer questions in and out of class, but you need to participate and pay attention like in any other course. The material is notoriously difficult but he makes it less horrible. He will make mistakes on the board sometimes.
Kelly isn't a bad teacher. He's definitely one of the better ones here. BUT I didn't like his teaching so much. He is very example heavy- which is good since you get to practice all sorts of problems, but he doesn't do a good job of explaining the concepts fully. ALSO he ENFORCES THE 3-class cut policy-- and will withdraw you if you cut 3 classes.
Kelly's a great man, and he knows his stuff. However, he can have trouble making too many mistakes here and there, but if you call him out on it he'll fix them all. Beware when asking questions, and make sure you know where your own confusion lies because he can sometimes lead you down a rabbit hole if your question is too broad or vague.
Best math professor!!
I took Rudy for Calc 2&3, was a strong professor both times. Very thorough with his lectures but also manages time for a break in the middle. Will send notes via email after class to help with HW problems. He is very prone to silly mistakes on the board, so you have to be vigilant. Calc 3 is significantly easier than 2, and he makes it even easier
He is the best Calculus Professor ever. He made Cal 112 easy to understand. His class is never boring. I definitely recommend him .
Prof. Kelly is the best math professor I have had in this college. Calc II is notorious for being extremely vast and you have to work to keep up with the pace of the material; however, this professor drills in the concepts. To put it bluntly, Prof. Kelly can make the dumbest student get an A in this difficult course. Just do what he says.
Prof Kelly is the best calc 2 prof. Anyone at NJIT will tell you Calc 2 is very hard. However with Prof Kelly rest assured that you will be very well prepared for the exams. There will be a quiz weekly and a lot of examples are done in class which help a lot on the commons. Would take him again for sure. I only wish he taught Calc 3B as well.
Professor Kelly is the best math teacher I've ever had in my life. He takes difficult concepts and breaks them down to easy to understand material. He does a lot of examples problems during class to drill the process into your head. His exam reviews are a must attend, so don't miss them if possible. I can't recommend him enough
Professor Kelly is the best Math professor at NJIT in my opinion. He teaches by giving examples similar to what will pop up on the exam. He is honest with his teaching and wants everyone to succeed. He is old fashion in the sense that he writes everything on the board which I appreciated because he would teach you the process of solving problems!!
Prof. Kelly is the best Calc 2 professor at NJIT. He goes over every topic very well and even if you don't understand it the first time, he is willing to make time to help you understand. He makes sure you're prepared to all the exams. He does have weekly quizzes which help a lot. Also he really upholds the attendance policy, so be in class!
Call his students names when they aren't around. Do not get him mad. Has difficulty accepting when he's wrong. Doesn't care about his students. Only cares about how he looks to the department so that's why he wants his class to get good grades. Inconsistent grading. HUGE EGO. Overall DISRESPECTFUL man. Discouraging professor.
confused how in the world this guy is rated so highly. Professor Ro is the best prof at njit for math... NOT THIS GUY. weird how ppl think he's actually a decent prof
Professor Kelly was a GODSEND for Calc 2, and I've heard he's great for Calc 3 as well. He's the only professor who goes over MANY problems during a lecture, rather than going by the book and simply lecturing. His class always has good exam averages, and he is by far the best math professor at NJIT.
He has been one of the best math professors on campus. He is thorough with his explanations and is always willing to go the extra mile to make sure you understand. It shows that he is a very caring professor and wants you to succeed in his class.
Well I sucked at this class but he was a good professor. Class is notoriously difficult so might as well take it with him. Made mistakes on the board a few times but he was much better than some other profs teaching the same class. Very understanding guy as well (I cried in class more than once and it was chill).
Prof Kelly is a great professor who cares for his students. He goes out of his way to email you class notes and attachments. I took Math 211 (Calc 3) without having taken Calc I & 2 at NJIT and still ended w an A.
I really dont understand why this man has such a high rating. Not the professor for me.
Really nice guy and genuinely cares about his students. Don't miss class. Explains things very well, but often get confused while doing work on the board. When that happens, he sends emails explaining the topic, but it's hard to learn from emails. He really prepares you for exams. sends lots of practice problems and helpful info before exams.
He'll give you extra credit on commons based on quiz performance. He is an old head doesn't like phones, kicked me out for phone use. Quizzes are easy, teaches kinda well better than other professors but he still thinks were in the 1960s. Definitly has Alzheimers he'll forget a bunch and make silly mistakes.
Prof Kelly is a nice guy who cares about his students. Quizzes are easy and will give extra credits that help on the common exams. he just makes a lot of mistakes sometimes. He is very strict about using phones during lectures. Other than that, he is great and calc #3 is not hard at all compared to #2, make SURE to attend all classes :)
Doesnt allow phones bc he wants you to pay attention in class and learn. Most of the people that dont like the phone rule are just disrespectful (grow up!) Attendance mandatory. Take notes and pay attention. Hes old and makes mistakes but its okay. Commons are hard but manageable. Gives extra credit on exams based on quiz performance. TAKE HIM!
I can see why he was rated well in the past bc he gives easy quizzes and extra points on exams, but he is not a good lecturer anymore. He would constantly make mistakes on the board and even PRACTICE EXAM ANSWER KEYS. He spent half the class on one problem because he would make many mistakes,so you were not adequately prepared for exam questions.
Gives easy quizzes with extra credit point. He sends a lot of helpful extra material via email. Yes, he does make a lot of mistakes on the board but as long as you have an idea of the concepts of math, you will be fine. He is very understanding and lenient with homework deadlines. I enjoyed this semester in his class a lot.
He gives weekly quizzes and will tell you what the topics may be the class before. He gives the class a break midway through class. He is incredibly lenient with the homework deadlines and provides extra credit on exams. Only problem is that he makes mistakes during lecture, but as long as you have an idea of what is going on you'll be fine.
Towards the end of the semester, his issues with memory and keeping up with his own notes inhibited my learning greatly. Most substance I got from this class was from Professor Leanord. He is a shell of what he used to be, he is not a good lecturer anymore. He is a good person but not a good professor. he spends a TON of time fixing his mistakes
washed
Prof. Kelly wants all of his students to do well. Make sure you attend class to stay on his email list. He works hard to clear up any confusion from class with well put together information sheets via email. He does get lost within the lecture, so just be patient. His quizzes are easier than the commons. Take advantage of those points.
Tbh I would avoid this guy. Theres a lot of good reviews on him because he gives extra points on quizzes however he wastes a lot of time making mistakes during class, causing us to begin to fall behind compared to other sections. He tried to make up for it by sending us 50+ emails of notes. Final was harder bc there were problems we didnt practice.
This professor is the worst at NJIT for Math. He mumbles, picks favorites, and targets others all semester for small mistakes. Quizzes are awful, and he won't help improve grades. No Canvas updates, just tons of emails, even at 2 a.m. He's unfair, unprofessional, and inconsistent. Truly the worst ever.
