Rudy is a great guy, and expresses himself to the fullest. No tests or any exams, a few easy hw assignments based only on your opinion. just show up to class, participate here and there and you've got an A. But he really has good things to say.

Rudy really gives from the heart. He wants students to succeed and makes sure you know what's out there if you need help. While so many classes seem irrelevant, his is one that will stay with you because it's real. He is very special.

He's a good teacher, but he's too into his own culture that he isn't diverse, it would be better if he would include other cultures and such, rather than just focusing ONLY on his culture. The things he talks about are irrelivant to the class, but he teaches u how to be a better person and he's easy so take him. (i know u read these comments)

There is a definite lean toward this teacher's own culture, even for an Ethnic Studies class. Also, there was in my opinion undo focus on music.

Rudy is a wonderful teacher who goes out of his way to entertain, educate and inspire his students with many guest speakers, movies, music, comedians (occasionally) and is very passionate about his guitar and carlos santana. his class is very easy and the speakers he invites can really teach you things about life and give you vital inspiration.

Rudy will teach you a lot about life...He's the only reason I'm still in school, because I got really frustrated, and he kept me motivated and kept my self esteem from being shredded.

Loved this class so far my favorite. This is probably the only class I looked forward to going to. He was interesting and motivational it was so refreshing to have a professor so passionate aboutbhis community and his students.

Interesting class, stories and perspectives on current issues. Lots of what he teaches is of relevance, and he has a very motivating attitude. He's always there for his students, and has a lot of knowledge to share. The only con was that we didn't learn as much about historical issues as I would have expected from an eth. studies course.

Very interesting teacher. Played guitar the first day of class. He is very liberal and has some good stories from doing social work. Only 3 writing assignments entire semester. Sometimes he uses a class period to talk about stuff that is not even related to ethnic studies. He has a pretty leniant attitude, but don't abuse it. Class is an easy A

Mr. Ramirez is an awesome person. He's pretty easy going and he doesn't assign much work except for a little bit of reading which you then discuss as a class. His lectures are pretty amusing. Expect to be put on the spot at least once or twice throughout the semester because he loves that kind of class activity. Overall, thumbs up!

Rudy believes you like his class so much that he can take the liberty of keeping you past your breaks and after class. He gets mad if you leave early regardless of how you feel. He thinks his class is more important than your life. That why he is still stuck in the 70's and in the Mission. Lame Jokes!

The classes I took with him were the mostunforgetable classes I took in College. Certainly, he is not a demanding teacher in the traditional way, but he cares about people and talks real life situatinos. If you are looking for a very academic professor you may look for some other teacher, but if you just want to take an enjoyable class take him.

I have never seen a professor shake everyone's hand the first day of class, yet Prof. Rudy took the time to introduce himself to everyone. Prof. Rudy keeps you extremely entertained. Prof Ramirez is funny, warm, intelligent, talented and positive. Not too much homework, he basically wants you to reflect, think and try to connect with what you're learning. He made everyone feel comfortable, interested and apart everyone. This class will never be the same, and I thank him for that. Definitely attend the Sweat Lodge!

I think by learning nothing he/she meant materialistically, which is somewhat true. I have learned a little about the Chicano /native American culture, but it's all from the book. But I have learned so much about life, the value of life, and just the way with things. Rudy is a very, very inspirational teacher who truly teaches with his soul.

professor Rudy is very hilarious, and laid back. Not only do you learn, but you see the world in different ways through motivational videos and his speeches. We took our finals at a mexican restaurant LOL.

Easy class, but I wish we learned more. He assigns a good amount of homework, but they are all easy and count for the final grade.He assigns volunteering in the community as part of the final grade, but most students fake that they volunteered and get an A, too bad! He has some crazy conspiracy ideas, but he's funny. HE has a good heart.

Professor Ramirez is a great teacher! It's an easy class and a lot of group discussions. Very little homework. Do as much of the extra credit as you can it'll help you if you feel you're going to miss several classes. Learned a little bit but not much, it did however broaden my knowledge of latin music and history.

In one lecture I learned more about some of my culture's history than I have in my entire 23 years of life. His teaching may not be for everyone but he is unique in an exceptional way. Yo this professor is the realest professor you can get. He does not sugar coat anything and definitely helps out the students as much as he can. He does not believe in tests. So understanding and easygoing. As a professor, he teaches you more about trust and music than the material. You have to TRY to fail his class. There are professors that you will remember for life, and he's one of them. Did 3/5 assignments but did e.c. and got an 110% overall. Doesn't believe in tests- his exams are reflections or open-note quizzes. Take good notes everyday(his class is more music appreciation +philosophy than ethnic studies) as you will type them as part of the final.

I was anxious before taking him bc I heard some people don't like how much he jokes in class. Throughout the class I realized what they meant: he loves to have a good time with his students and if you don't take his jokes in the light hearted way they are intended, it's easy to see how someone may be put off. Nonetheless he has a heart of gold!!!

Rudy Ramirez is a great professor yet all he teaches is based off YouTube videos, so be prepared to watch the screen. You need to be in class everyday and participates at least once per class. Do the extra credit if you can, it really helps. Requires 3 books, 6 homework assignments, volunteering for a nonprofit, 2 quizzes for the whole semester.

Honestly just show up to class, do the simple homework assignments and you'll pass. Such a funny professor and lots of great/ hilarious videos shown in class. Also you just need 10 hours of community service, and honestly take advantage of his extra credit opportunities just to have them just in case you flake on something.

I had an amazing experience in this class! It was my first college course my Senior year and I thoroughly enjoyed it! He really cares about his students and I got to learn so much from him. He's an amazing professor. He helped me view other perspectives, learn about different cultures and my culture more in depth. He offers extra credit and they're really fun to do. Attendance is mandatory, no cellphones allowed, and Participation is key for him. He is a very funny professor, understanding, and easy to talk to. Definitely recommend.

Interesting lectures

Professor Rudy runs a focused class, but can be strict at times. While lectures are engaging, he has little patience for distractions. Attending is a must. Unstuck ai was a helpful study tool alongside the textbook.

At first when I saw the reviews I was a bit nervous about how would it go. However, Prof.Rudy ended up being one of the best teachers I've ever met and will give you feedback if needed.
