Everything is all or nothing on the tests. His grading is "you know it or you don't. This isn't one of those wussy classes..." mentality. He's extremely helpful if you don't get the material all you have to do is ASK. Ask him during office hours or after class if you're shy. I got a C because I was lazy..I'm adding again in fall 2010 to get an A.
AWESOME
This class is tough, but very interesting. Its tough because there is a lot of material and were talking origins and theories of various religions so its critical thinking....yay! I would recommend the class he is an awesome teacher, the tests are straight foreward there is a TON of vocab you have to memorize WORD FOR WORD...seriously.
Saldana is a tough teacher, if you don't work hard, you won't do well. He knows what he's teaching, and he won't give you an easy A. He is awesome and hilarious, and I plan on taking his other class this next semester.
He's actually a really good teacher. He makes his lectures very clear and provides easy to follow examples that aren't sometimes the "cleanest"..but hey, they get the point across. Take really good notes and copy all the chicken scratch/pictures on the board. Make sure you understand EVERYTHING because tests are basically paragraphs per question.
great teacher, knows his stuff, explains pretty well, but VERY HARD CLASS. he expects you to know the definitions word for word and 8 out of 10 questions on every test is paragraph answers. you HAVE to attend EVERY class and read the book cover to cover to pass. good teacher, but his expectations are too high for a 3 unit class.
Kind of in his own world. His way or the highway. Like two homework assignments but tests are one of the hardest you will take. You can tell he dislikes Judeo-Christian beliefs by the way he presents them. After one lecture on Christianity a girl in my class said "thats so dumb why do people even believe in that religion?"
Rudy is great at teaching the concepts. He is pretty wacky and creates a fun learning environment. He can be vulgar and might make one feel uncomfortable. But he will take all the time needed to have a class discussion on the concepts he is teaching.
lectures are very interesting. Teaches well. test are hard. 4 test including final. Final is cumulative and is 50 % of total grade. Need to memorize about 100 vocab words and it needs to be word for word. Also need to know the book from cover to cover. Only 2 hw so grade is based on test scores. good teacher but will never take him again.

This guy is a character. But he does know his stuff. He makes the class really interesting, because he really gets into his lectures. Don't miss any classes though, and make sure you read the textbook. also, memorize every definition he assigns. cool class, but very difficult.
Really good teacher. His class is not easy at all but he makes it fun. He is a funny guy and really gets into the subject he is teaching. It's pretty much his way or the highway. No cell phones bc he will kick you out of the classroom and very important to go to every class.
Rudy's class was awesome. The reading load can be overwhelming at times, but he is willing to discuss during the class time. His used of extreme examples will make you laugh, but they are extremely helpful. Attend all lectures is possible. It's not that hard guys read and know your definitions, because if you do, you will have no problem with tests
Easy A, tests are not hard at all. If you understand the material, and memorize the vocabulary words, your pretty much guranteed an A. Ive taken two of his classes, tests arent hard, they just require a lot of writing. He uses wacky ideas and examples so you can understand the concept. He makes class interesting and fun.
He trys to come off like he's a jerk, but he's a really awesome guy. I wouldn't recommend him if you are easily offended. But for the rest who like a good joke, he really livens up the class.
One of the best teachers at Citrus! If you want to take a class where you will actually learn something, take his! Completely wacky, but awesome guy...
He scared me on the first day. Lectures are all over the place and if you miss one then good luck catching up! If you're sensitive/easily offended don't take his class. GREAT teacher, you have to work hard to earn your grade though! USE OFFICE HOURS, IT HELPS!
Saldana is a really good professor, in the sense that he is helpful and really wants his students to learn. His class can be challenging at times. If you don't expect to study and pass don't take him. Also, he probably wont add you.
The easiness of this class will vary depending what kind of student youre,if youre the one that doesnt procrastinate and does his work and studying on time, this will be an easy A,if not, then it will be the opposite. This class is challenging if you dont plan on studying at all. Saldana is a great professor. Never bought da book n still passed w/an A
Mr. Saldana is a great teacher. If you're looking to learn something then take his class. Attendance is mandatory, you earn your own grade; the book is very helpful. He seems to teach because he enjoys. He is probably better than most philosophy teachers you'll come across.
This teacher is awesome. The book and attendance is mandatory of course. If you follow his guidelines: bring the book, be there, do not have any technology that may distract distract others, study, do homework, and pay attention, his courses are easy. He is Funny! He doesn't digress, but manages to make people laugh while teaching. Recommended!!!!
this teacher is great, and the class is very intersting, but if you r not willing to study or attend class you will fail.test are easy if you study.every class is interesting and he gives personal examples.. he is greatt! but if your lazy dont take him..
saldana was a great teacher, and knows his stuff..explains it very clear and understandable.. very very hard though..so you better be ready to read alot and attend every class...have to memorize 100 words..dont miss a class or youll be lost.
Great teacher. Enthusiastic and enlightening. He doesn't approach the material on a textbook word-by-word, but knows the material. Highly recommended to take any of his philosophy classes.
BEST TEACHER! ENJOYED EVERY BIT OF HIS CLASS!!!!! HIGHLY, HIGHLY, RECOMMENDED!!
i dont care what any negative comment states about this teacher, he is the best! he is funny, helpful, and easy going. You do learn to love him. Take him, you wont regret it.
Every class is a lecture class- even though he tries to keep them interesting, it does get a bit boring. Don't miss a class as practically everything he lectures is on the test. Must memorize 30 new word definitions for each test (total of 4 tests). He is a tough grader!!
Mr. Saldana is a very wise man, and he is probably the most intellectual individual you will encounter amongst the citrus college staff. I did Not take notes;however, I payed attention in class and read the book everYday! If you just so evenThink you can balAnce sleeping in his class, you will fail big time.
BRILLIANT teacher. The class is easy as long as YOU, the student, keep an OPEN MIND. Some students become offended or try to challenge what he is teaching. The thing is, he is NOT trying to persuade you to believe in the teachings, he is simply teaching you what the philosophies are. I took 2 of his courses in the same semester and got A's in both
This class was memorization. If you don't parrot exactly what was instructed, you will absolutely fail. He has no interest in helping you. You'd better love memorization if you take his classes. If you take Logic (Phil 110), go with Jack Call. He is a far superior teacher in all areas.
Great teacher.
Horrible teacher. Ask him a question, and he will answer it leaving you with two more questions. Hard tests. If this is the only class you have then take it, if u have more than this class this is not worth your time, you have to work too hard for a philosophy class you wont need. Memorize 30+ keyterms. All written exams no multiple-choice.
Tough teacher, you really have to work for your grade, cant miss one class because you will miss alot.
Brilliant man. His point are profound and usually those who think his class is hard or he isn't a good professor, are lazy and don't want to do the work or think for themselves. I've taken 3 of his classes now, he wants you to memorize definitions because its important for the whole class to know the same topic being discussed, not to waste time.
Sure he's profound and extremely knowledgeable of the material he teaches, but he really is a jerk. And a perv!!! I guess the guys enjoy his fantasies, but he usually doesn't know when to stop. Constantly inappropriate/ crude/disrespectful towards women in&out class. Learned a lot, but i can't stand him.
Really enjoyed his class. Attending lecture is a must because miss 1 class and you'll miss a lot of information. Take advantage of his office hours because he helps you out a lot more then the help in class. If you study the materials, the tests will be easy. Take no offense to his opinions, he isn't trying to offend, just explain points of views.
Professor saldana is a boss. He has a passion for Philosophy and uses alot of examples to support the material. This isnt an easy class, so if your a lazy bum i'd take another teacher. You must show up everyday or else you will miss alot of information. Philosophy classes will make you the most logical person you can be.
Took world religion during winter. Attendance is mandatory and if you miss one day, you miss a a lot of information. The book is used in class, and he tests you based on your readings & lectures. The tests are all hand written, but if you pay attention and asks questions you'll be fine. Take advantage of his office hours, he helps alot. I got a B
I've taken his religion and ethics classes. Hands down BEST teacher I've ever had. If you go to class and actually pay attention it's easy. If you don't then it's hard. Your choice.
One of the beast teacher I have had in my college career, he really knows his subject. Hes very helpful which is good since the class can be tough, be he'll help you through it.
really hard professor. remember everything word for word, take alot of notes. read, read, read. memorize key terms word for word, as you will have to define a few random ones each test, or else he will "jack your answer". he has a great personality & hilarious-twisted sense of humor. if you become easily offended, don't take him.he gets pretty deep
Rudy is the best teacher at Citrus College. No only do you have a teacher passionate about his subject but he challenges you. Plus his teaching methods are much different than others such as there are not multiple choice or fill in the blank test. Be open minded and prepared to work for your grade. Overall, excellent teacher!
Best professor hands down! Truly cares about his students! Tests are moderate, you really have to learn to memorize word for word. Attendance is a must in this class! If you miss one lecture i can guarantee you will be confused! Overall great professor :)
he is NOT very PC, as he will warn you on the 1st day of class. if you're easily offended & unwilling to open your mind, DONT TAKE HIM! you must be able to put your personal beliefs aside in order to fully understand the concepts he's presenting. tests are easy if you study & memorize terms. not an easy class but i enjoyed it overall!
AMAZING PROFESSOR! he isn't very PC and he admits it openly. His exams are relatively easy if you've done the reading and come to class. He makes his lectures very clear and answers questions very well. Makes sure you understand the material and class is interesting. Would recommend taking his class if you aren't offended by non- PC teachers
He's a good professor overall. He tends to make it clear that he wants ALL his students to understand the concepts. If you attend the classes you will get a decent grade. I wouldn't advise it in a 6 week course unless you have good techniques of grasping things. I got a good grade overall.
This teacher is a really funny and outgoing guy. I do NOT recommend taking this class in a short semester because it is fast paced, involves a lot of memorization, and concentration. I highly recommend having a study group while in this class. All tests are (pen only) in class essays where you memorize drawings, theories, examples, and definitions.
Let me start off by saying this: If you're a lazy person, do not take this class. You need to make time to study for this class. He's an amazing, funny teacher. Also, if you get butthurt over sensitive topics, you're going to hate him. Haha, he's very honest. Overall, his class is HARD. But, if you study all the material AND WORDS, you're fine.
This is definitely not an easy class, you have to do the work in order to get a good grade. Saldana has high expectations for his students but he gives you all the tools necessary to do well in his class. His lectures are really interesting and he uses real life examples to help explain concepts.
First of all, if you're not committed when it comes to studying, DO NOT take this class. He's freaking funny, I immediately became comfortable with, I believe because we have similar personalities. There's a lot of memorizing, WORD-BY-WORD! I never thought I could do it, until I took this class, don't miss class and read!
Great Teacher, knows exactly what he is talking about. Very helpful if you ask for help, he will give it. Take good notes, as you will need them. Definitely do NOT miss an exam! missing an exam(especially the first one) will make it harder to determine how you are doing in the class and whether to continue or not if it is challenging.
Prof. Saldana's class was NOT easy, I'm telling you that now. But his lectures are straight up the clearest and most interesting lectures I've ever had in my life. He knows his topics well and he makes it very interesting. I suggest taking good notes and recording his lectures (with permission of course) cause you'll need it.
Mr. Saldana has very interesting lectures with real life examples that make concepts easier to understand. His tests may not be simple but they are doable if you are willing to put time and effort into the class. Memorizing definitions and taking notes/redrawing the pictures he draws on the board are key to passing tests.
Professor Saldana is fantastic. Incredibly interesting to listen to, very funny as well. He expects a lot of you, and you must work for your grade. But the work is always enlightening. A lot of reading, class is mandatory, but all the work is worth the experience of this professor. My favorite teacher at Citrus.
Saldana was very funny & interesting, but I couldn't understand philosophy ethics. The class was all lecture & my grade was calculated on just test scores because that was the only work we did in the class, which i disliked. Plus, all the tests consist of essay questions. His lectures are funny, but he can easily go off topic for a long time.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE Mr. Saldana!! He is a tough teacher, BUT is extremely fair & makes the class as enjoyable as it gets! If you're looking for an easy A, look else where. HOWEVER, you will learn so much from his class AND enjoy it so much. By the end of the semester, you will be so proud of yourself because of the amount of info you've learned!
He is a great teacher. He uses examples that could be a little extreme but very funny to help us understand the material. If you do decide to take his class, you MUST BE WILLING AND ABLE to memorize 20-40 words and their definitions WORD FOR WORD. As great as the class is, those are easy points and he WILL deduct based on that.
Its a lecture class. You listen, he talks. He is really funny and gets people involved in his storiesmetaphors. You miss a day, you miss that test question. Copy down EVERYTHING he writesexplains. Tests are 90% of your grade, and they are LONG! Take his advise and essay out every lesson, you will be doing this for tests. Hardest and best class!
This is a class that I, regrettably, spent more time on than some of my 5 unit classes. I am not a fan of his teaching style or the philosophy of Ethics in general. DON'T MISS A CLASS. He does not wait for you if you are absent. He is very helpful and will spend a good amount of time with his students after class. I would not retake his class.
This class is HARD. Your entire grade is test-based, and tests are essay style. The tests are very difficult and he is a tough grader. I went to every class, read the book and studied between 10-18 hours per test and still barely scraped by with a C. Be ready to memorize 80 + definitions word-for-word.
Amazing class, sad that it ended, loved the professor. Don't miss class you will miss important material related to exam. Exams are not multiple choice and must memorize definitions word by word exactly. HW are essential to learning and only collected at the end of semester. Need the book, turn off your cell phones, you will get dissmissed.
Awesome Professor, took his class on Religion in 2001. Very clear and straight forward. Lectures are great.
Goes to fast, he should teach as if he were at a community college, joy a university. I think he is a little slighted by being a professor, he should be a bit more lenient, as he goes fast and he just draws on a very dusty chalkboard. He goes way too fast for his night classes.
Make sure NOT to skip any test! I'm currently taking his Logic course. It's though but reading the book helps a lot. (you can rent it on amazon) He gives the most random examples in lecture which are hilarious. He is blunt, tough grader but a fantastic teacher. ^.^
Sad I'm already done with Logic this Spring Semester :( Time went by too fast and I wished it went slow. Anyways, he is a great professor to have for logic. You don't get to read a lot from the textbook and gives little bit of homework that are easy to do.
Rudy is an interesting character to say the least. Gives homework that is vital in helping you understand the material. He seems intimidating but if ask him for help he'll make sure you know the material before you leave his office or class. Utilize his office hours if you're struggling with the material. Class consists of 3 test 1 final and HW.
He is a unique professor. He makes philosophy accessible and interesting by using entertaining examples, but they can be crude at times. 3 tests are 45% of your grade and the final is 50%. The content is clear and easy but he gives you quite a few complex definitions to memorize word-for-word which you have to write down from memory on the tests.
this was one of the classes I had to work really hard for. The class is totally passable, but it requires a lot, and i mean a lot of outside effort. He makes us memorize about 20-30 flashcards per test word for word and tests us on about 6. The tests are essay format. Not much homework given out. Rudy comes off as rude but he teaches well.
take down everything from the board!about 30 definitions to memorize per test. 77, 73, & 100 on the tests & an A on the final. final grade was an A. Also 5% is easy hw. read the book! it will make you pass! don't miss the movies!tests consist of 2 true/false, 6 definitions, and 6 short answer/essay q's. says he's a tough grader, but he isn't.
very good professor, if you go to his office hours and ask questions and understand the material, you will be fine
Saldana is blunt, funny, and very intelligent in his field of work. If you are looking for any easy class, then turn back now. Rudy will make you work for your grade, ask questions and he will answer, act stupid and he will shine a spot light on you so bright, it'll send you back to your fetus stage. Strongly recommend for those willing to learn.
He sets the bar pretty high. Rudy is like a wise older man but with a coherent and practical teaching curriculum. And funny! His animate personality brings philosophy to relevance. Hes also dedicated to his students. I know he can seem a little shrewd and scary sometimes, but he really is a sweetheart. And in time, youll learn to appreciate him.
You MUST go to this class. His lectures are not something you can find on the internet or understand from other students. If you're looking for something intellectually stimulating, this is your class. Not much homework, but when the tests come around, you'll certainly feel the difficulty.
This class is a little tough but doable. If you skip, you will not pass. He lets you know exactly what will be on the test. Makes you memorize definitions word for word. He gives out homework that relates to the test which is a big help. SO DO THE HW! You need to study to pass. Overall, it was an awesome class! RECOMMEND! :)
None of the above words worked for him. He is probably the worst professor I have taken on campus. His memorization techniques come with a high level of sexism and homophobia built in. An example he might use is "all spit fire dogs hate women" or "therefore pig nosed dogs are disgusting women" I hope other reviews back these statements up.
I took the 6-week summer course and loved every bit of it. He seemed intimidating on the 1st day, but he was simply setting a standard of attendance and classroom behavior. Lectures are dense and very interesting. He's great at keeping your attention with entertaining and memorable examples. It's not an easy A. Just do your work/studying and enjoy!
He isn't PC. He says that the first day of the class. I've taken two of his classes and they are my two most enjoyed classes. Don't take any of his comments seriously. If you are easily offended, this class is not for you. I got 100 on every exam, including the final. If you try, you'll get an A. It's a difficult class for sure, but just try... lol
Great teacher overall super clear with what he wants/expects on papers and tests. Very approachable and easy going all you have to do is take good notes and LISTEN during lecture pretty basic. He's good at explaining/clarifying if you dont understand you just have to let him know.
The only reason why people give Prof. Rudy a bad rating is because they are either easily offended by his examples or the don't study for his tests. The tests are tough, but the lessons and mat
This man is really great. He cares about his students, you just have to put the effort into showing you care about your grade. He is not PC which, in my opinion is great. If you are offended easily DO NOT take him. He says so on the first day! Read the book, jot down everything on the board, buy a couple packs of flashcards and you're set!
He'll tell you he's not PC like 4 million times and he's not, he's not offensive just old school. Put your phone on silent, show up, read your homework, and do your vocab and you'll get an easy A.
Rudy's class is designed to be difficult. He's going to make you work hard for your grade. Be serious about studying, as the tests are a good chunk of you grade. Also, try not to take the things he says personally. He uses controversial topics in his examples to draw the class in, not to bait a reaction from somebody.
If you're easily offended, can't focus for long periods of time, or don't want to memorize vocab word for word then don't take this class. This isn't an easy class and he will make you work for your grade. He doesn't do extra credit and no remakes on exams. Commit to the class, don't try to take short cuts because he will get on top of you for it.
He's a little kooky, but i that's what makes him so great, hard to describe until you've met him. 10/10 class, BUY THE TEXTBOOK ASAP
Show up. Listen (& take notes if it helps). Study your vocab. As long as you understand the MAIN POINT, use examples, and explain yourself: it's an easy A. I found it helpful studying with other students. Don't take his humor too seriously, haha. Greatest class I have ever taken. Open up, and Rudy will throw up priceless knowledge into your brain.
Everyone should take this class. Rudy gives great knowledge when you are willing to learn, and the content from this class is full of valuable life lessons. Show up and listen and you'll be fine.
First day of class he said he'd fail you if you used your phone and would also try to trick you if you weren't paying close attention on a test. His grading was almost exclusively test based (blank papers, no multiple choice, verbatim definitions). Great lectures but you definitely have to earn your grade. One of my favorite classes.
Great Professor! His eccentric style makes hard to grasp concepts much more accessible. Bravo Prof Saldana!
Rudy is one of the best professors I've ever/ will ever take (I've taken him twice now). If you're easily offended, just don't take his classes. He is ALL lecture, but they are captivating and hilarious. He loves questions and will explain until he's sure you understand. He's tough... but honestly just study, go to class, and you'll do fine :)
I failed this class twice. Probably the worst teacher I ever had. I have take many Philosophy classes, and I love philosophy. Rudy is funny, but he also doesn't make it clear during class what we should be learning. He is pretty much rambling the whole time. You have to learn definitions word by word.
Professor Saldana teaches in a chalk board. No powerpoints no technology just you the chalk board and the book and your notes. You cannot contact him by email just by school phone and he will get back to you very quick if you leave a voicemail. ask questions in the lectures, go to class!. study your vocab and notes, ask questions and you'll pass.
Mr. Saldana was my favorite professor at Citrus College. I took all of his classes for a philosophy degree and the things I learned under him were invaluable. Yeah, he's a tough grader. But teachers like him are so rare these days - He's literally a walking encyclopedia--INSANELY smart man. Ask questions and pick his brain. It was an honor, Rudy!
Saldana is old school. No phones or you will be dropped. His quizzes and tests are nearly impossible due to the volume of abstract terms and definitions he assigns. Pretty offensive as well and doesnt seem to care much about his students as hes just riding his wave into retirement. Do not take him, you will regret it!!!!!!
Hes is so funny, but you need to have a sense of humor. Grading is based on test results not homework. A lot of vocabulary words you have to have memorize. He gets into his lectures really good, so no cell phones allowed or you will get kicked out of lecture. Testing is on blank sheet of paper where u write the answer. No multiple choice. Fun class
Rudy is the best professor I've ever had. He rarely assigns homework (5% of grade). You need to memorize vocab WORD FOR WORD (about 20 per test). If you are up for the challenge, take his class because he's amazing. Have a sense of humor! He makes you work for your grade. There's 3 tests worth 15% each, and your final is worth 50% of your grade.
Honestly offensive is the best way to put this reveiw, do not take this class with him, rambles about off topic jargen. Tests you on 30 words a week you must learn verbatim.
He is a good professor. His lectures are good and are usually out of the book. He does have you memorize the definition for vocabulary verbatim. So make sure you do that. Otherwise I really enjoyed this class.
The guy is a mad man but you will learn something. The class is heavy on testing and do not slack on the vocab term. Otherwise as long as you pay attention his class will be pretty easy to grasp.
A lot of people don't like Rudy because of his sarcasm and sense of humor, but he is an amazing professor. He doesn't use scantrons so you have to really study and work for your grade. He does care for his students so ask questions! you need your textbook and if you miss one class you end up paying the price on exam.
One of the most honest professors I've ever met. Take good notes for his lectures. ALWAYS memorize the words he gives you word-for-word. Lastly, STUDY hard for the tests because they do count! Meet him at his office hours and he'll be glad to assist you. You'll make it! Also, hi Rudy! :)
Rambles far too much during lectures to properly understand them. No email for you to contact him with, only provides a phone number. The homework he gives ONCE during the middle of every section, covers HALF of the section relating to the next test, so you aren't feel prepared for the whole test unless you waste your time at his office hours.
Make sure you take good notes and go to class everyday! You have to memorize a couple word definitions verbatim for the tests. Overall, just know your theories and definitions and youll do great! You have to get used to his crude humor too!
He doesn't give out quizzes. The tests are essay heavy. You have to show up because his lectures aren't something u can find online. He makes you memorize vocabs VERBATIM. Personally, I thought he's a great professor. He explains the material thoroughly and makes sure no one is confused. I wouldn't take him again tho cus of the vocab memorization.
If you are sensitive about certain subjects I wouldnt take him. Uses not PG references to help understand material. But great teacher, so easy to pay attention. I loved the class made me question my major. He's funny. The work load isnt a lot, his tests has vocab that was the hardest. Took ethics with him as well. He's old school doesnt email.
I loved Professor Saldana! He may seem intimidating at first but the tests mirror his lectures EXACTLY. He is super adamant about no technology in his class so I would keep that in mind as well. You NEED the textbook in his class, as he makes you memorize definitions verbatim (word for word) on his tests. If you put forth the effort, easy A.
DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS ONLINE. I had him during COVID-19. He basically completely gave up on our class; didn't post any videos, didn't post a single grade. I even emailed asking for a grade and he wouldn't take the time to let me know how I was doing. He only responded to emails half the time. He really didn't seem to care about his class online.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! WASTE OF TIME. Its like they gave up in the course. I tried to see where my grade stands and couldnt even tell me. I would not recommend this class at all... I shouldve dropped it when I could.
Took his course over the 6 week summer session and it was a complete joke. Didnt post any form of lecture video, instead just a doc with a summary of the material for the week. Had 2 assignments a week: 1 discussion and 1 compare and contrast assignment between the text and his lecture. No grading and refuses to let you know where you stand.
I have no idea what to say about his class other than you will not know your grade throughout the semester. I truly wish I had taken someone else. Discussion posts are weekly + a response. However, assignments are very vague and unclear. Lectures are a word doc/pdf. Its so hard to know where you stand.
Absolutely the worst professor I have ever come across within my entire career of being a student. Was not there for his students at all, put forth the bare minimum and would go based off lectures + textbook reading, and would NOT tell you your grade at any point in the class period. Ignore all the comments praising him. WORST TEACHER EVER.
I took Professor Saldana for an online philosophy course... he isn't very involved. He gives you all the information that you need for the rest of the course, and it's up to you to follow-through with it. When he grades, his feedback is very vaguehard to understand and apply for future papers. He replies very fast to emails though! He's not bad.
It is not his computer illiteracy that undoes him, but the complete lack of willingness to perform basic functions as a professor that will have you questioning the legality of his employment. He calls his refusal to work "hardcore mode", as if we are to benefit from his laziness. Knowing WHAT the homework is shouldn't be harder than the hw itself.
If youre not stupid, youll do great.
This professor is awful. I'm currently taking his class and it is so difficult. The directions are not clear and concise, and there is one assignment and one discussion board per week. His "lectures" are 3 page log docs with summaries of the chapter readings. He also does not post grades at all so you are unsure all semester where you stand.
Rudy is hands down my favorite professor. I took him once for Ethics and again for Logic. I graduated from Cal Poly with my degree in Philosophy and credit a lot of my experience to him. His lectures are the best, his grading is not terrible and he is willing to talk to you.
He is the worse please don't take him. I completed all my assignments on time and he never graded anything throughout the semester. I though well he will grade it at the end of the semester and nothing. Come to find out when I got my grade that I had a D! How I don't understand I completed all assignments and I still have them.
Had his online class for intro to philosophy. Only had to read 20-40 pages a week, and respond to the reading with one page comparing/contrasting the reading to his lecture audio. I really enjoyed his class and highly recommend taking it online for easy credits. In-person is another story...
Professor Saldana gave four tests and only one assignment that was graded throughout the whole year. His tests were straight-forward and there were quiet a few vocabulary words we had to memorize. Other then that his class was great and he throws in some humor here and there and taking his class was a breeze for me.
Professor does not post a single grade throughout the semester. Expect to receive no feedback throughout the class. The subject matter is dense and pedantic. Your grade is dictated by your grade on the final which he won't post the grade for. Assignment instructions are vague with no clear grading criteria. Help yourself and avoid the class.
Didn't upload grades the whole semester and refused to provide feedback.
is never present for discussions, never grades assignments during the week or through out the semester, lectures are monotone he sounds miserable and ready to retire, when asked for help he just copys and paste what he posted on his syllabus. He is useless with no help to offer. what a great role model yippy! i do not recommend him.
I was a bit worried at first after discovering prof. Saldana does not post grades right away, but he left plenty of feedback throughout the semester. If you go over the syllabus carefully and follow directions in his lectures you will pass with a good grade. Make sure to read the chapters carefully and make sure you use the proper quotations.
Imagine signing up to teach an online class just to refute technology. This is a professor who refuses to use the tools professors are expected to use while teaching online. He refuses to list what the homework is on Canvas, and will also refuse to upload the lecture that he declared the homework in. Take Professor Jamie Love and enjoy the subject.
It is not his computer illiteracy that undoes him, but the complete lack of willingness to perform basic functions as a professor that will have you questioning the legality of his employment. He calls his refusal to work "hardcore mode", as if we are to benefit from his laziness. Knowing WHAT the homework is shouldn't be harder than the hw itself!
Don't take him online and you'll be fine, I'm not sure what kind of titan of an intellectual would take a philosophy class online, but clearly Citrus is full of them. Just take the class in person and attend class and you'll be fine. Very fun lectures, and the HW is very little and straight to the point. Definitely my favorite professor at Citrus.
Professor Saldana is horrible. The fact that he can't just post grades onto the grade tab on Canvas is beyond me. What is the point of hosting an online class if you don't post grades where they should be posted? If I had more than 350 characters I would definitely say more.
Grades unavailable all semester except for written assignments where the grades are not put onto but in feedback tucked away. Doesn't have any grades for discussions at all questions about where I am at whole time in terms of grade.
Class consists of discussions that he never responds to, which is fine, and written assignments every week. I think he's an ok professor, not a great one that's for sure. but not necessarily the worst. Hate that grades aren't available the entire semester. Very critical when revising papers.
Quite literally did the bare minimum DO NOT TAKE HIM. Throughout the entire semester you dont even know what grade you get and he leaves you in the dark about your grade until it's posted on wingspan. All he wants you to do is compare and contrast books and lectures based on his views. Worst professor to take online and Im never taking him again.
It is so difficult to contact him! He does not respond quickly to emails. I don't like that he doesn't allow you to see your grade. Class is boring overall. Wouldn't recommend, took him online for summer. He does have clear grading guidelines though.
He is highly unprofessional, showing blatant disregard for student success and offering no meaningful support. He provides almost no resources, relying on cryptic/open to interpretation type lectures, and grades based on his own biased standards, dismissing differing perspectives. Also, impossible to contact outside of class; hates technology.
Professor Saldana only assigned seven papers, two pages each, but grading is tough. You have to compare or contrast the lecture to the chapter assigned for the week. I received 7/12 because I "Summarized" too much. I asked for feedback on how to improve. I didn't get it. I have straight A's except in this class. The work seems easy but he's on one
Dont take class online as he hates technology and thats on you. In person, he is the best professor I have personally taken in my life. He was engaging and knew exactly how to make anyone understand any topic.
Take Prof. Saldana's PHIL101 in-person - his lectures are engaging and the workload is manageable. The textbook is useful, but Unstuck ai can also be a great study aid. Just stay focused and you'll do well.
I'm sure Saldana is a fun guy to be around outside of class, but dear God he is not a good professor. I don't know what Saldana wants to accomplish with his lectures. His tests are 15% of the total grade with the final being a whopping 50% of the grade. I dropped the class after the first test because I already knew I was going to fail...
This professor makes it very clear that he is not here to help you! Either keep up or get lost. Very disappointing. Got good grades on my discussions, and he asks fairly simple questions. He can come across very rude via email and offered no resources when I asked for help.
He doesn't seem like he is passionate about his course. He doesn't respond quickly to emails and doesn't give feedback. His lectures, which is basically a regurgitated version of the textbook serves no purpose in helping the students. If you want to excel and engage with the content, this professor would not fulfill that.
I wrote my assignments exactly as she asked, but the score was never higher than 6 out of 13.
Only take Saldana if you are good at philosophy or genuinely interested in it. Otherwise it'll fly over your head. He explains things pretty well. He's also funny. Good dude.
Very hard grader especially on exams. Instructions on homework are not always clear and class morale is low. Would not recommend if you do not have lots of time to devote to a single class. Also not tech-savvy which can make difficult to communicate.
Kinda speaks in code to explain theories. He also gave me an F on my first exam. Told the class that even if our answers were correct, he was still taking points away. Made weird comments towards the female students. Don't even bother emailing him, he won't respond. He's pretty chill and funny tbh, but I suggest taking this course somewhere else.
Be a good note taker and you will pass this class with flying colors. I only got a B cause I didn't try that hard but a A is extremely achievable.
