Go to class. Do the homework. Ask questions. Do the reviews. The class was hard for me but I felt good knowing that I learned a lot in the course. Professor Basnayake is a good professor. She is strict but if you attend class, do the homework and reviews and ask questions she will help you and make sure you have an understanding of the class.
She is a good professor. She makes sure you understand. Do the homework, come to class, participate and it was easy. Would take her again. :)
The class was not too difficult. Homework done using mymasteringlab that comes with the textbook for pearson. Fair grading, drops lowest test score. I was unable to take this class in person due to covid but the professor uploaded video lectures and recommended practice problems from the text book. Labs were done online as well and were easy.
Took the course in the summer and all the course work was manageable! The lectures Dr.B posted online were very helpful and she works out and explains problems in the videos which is very helpful. She also provides optional problems to solve from the textbook, those were great for getting some more practice in! Overall great professor, take Dr.B!
I took her online CHEM 1411 course for summer 1. Goes over plenty of practice problems with great explanations for you to succeed. Gives curves on exams and drops the lowest exam. Gives multiple chances for mastering assignments and responds fast. Personally, did not need textbook. She was an awesome teacher and I definitely recommend her!
Dr. B was very pleasant to work with as she lets you take care of yourself and work at your own pace for online classes. She grades fairly, and gives you study material that previews tests very well. Lectures can be fast paced and a little difficult to follow, but she responds to emails almost instantly so asking questions is easy.
Dr. B was great. I took her for CHEM 1405 & CHEM 1411. Her one rule is no phones or laptops while she is lecturing. She provides handouts so you can follow along easily. Her test reviews give you a great insight on whats going to be on the test. Show up to class, pay attention, do your homework, and you will pass no problem.
Hello all, I took Professor Rukma for Intro to Chem Fall 2020 & although I made an A, the course itself is extremely difficult & stressful. However, she really cares for her students, & is quick to respond to any emails especially when needing extra help. In regards to exams READ THE REVIEWS they help, stay on top of your assignments & you'll pass.
Lectures are very good! You will find everything you need to know in her lectures. I used the book only as a backup for some chapters that contained a lot of theory. If you want to get a good grade you need to make sure you go over the lectures, do the chapter exercises and do all the review problems.
I took Prof. Rukma for Chem Fall2020. Chemistry has never been my forte at all, but Prof. Rukma made sure that I understand her lecture. Though, I made an 'A'. It's all 'coz of her. She never gave up on me & was willing to schedule a zoom on her day off. Prof. Rukma truly cares on her students!! Amazing teacher, will take again in a heartbeat.
Great professor. She uploads lecture videos which are short and to the point. However, a bit more detail would be appreciated. Homeworks are on myLab, which are difficult as you can only improve grade by doing everything again, you can't just do the ones you did wrong, which I think should be possible. Tests are proctored (hardish). Would recommend
Professor Basnauake is a really good professor! She really wants you to learn and her lectures are very good and helps you understand the material. I was not sure about taking chemistry online, but it was just fine. She gives extra credit and joining during office hours really helps if you have questions. The review sheets are very helpful as well.
SHE IS THE BEST PROF I EVER HAVE BEFORE. she replies mail so fast. ALSO, extent due day
Online/summer course. Work load very doable. Voice over powerpoint lectures. Online virtual simulation labs (not hard), and mastering assignments (hardest part to me). Look at the test reviews! Very helpful for exams. Sends out reminders before each assignment is due. Very responsive to emails. Would take her again.
I took Dr. B's six week class for CHEM1405 as a refresher since I have not taken chemistry since high school. Do the powerpoints & the Mastering Assignments until you get it down. She works out every topic so you know how to do it. Lowest grade dropped on exam, lab, and homework and there is extra credit. Great teacher and responds fast to emails!
Dr. B is a great professor! Her lectures are very helpful and she is incredibly considerate through emails and communication. I was new to chemistry so it was a tough class for me, but she was a great help. Could not have done it without her. I would recommend her to all.
Wonderful class! Dr. B truly cares about her students and wants you to succeed. She is available and responds quickly.
No Labster lab (unlimited attempts) or Pearson assignment (5 attempts) extentions. She gives video lectures and ppt notes. Proctered Exams are scheduled at a specific time (6pm-8pm window, 2hr test) so, BE PREPARED FOR THAT! She gives extra points on the Exams. Overall pretty good.
I took her class in the Fall semester. It was a great class. As you know, chemistry is a heavy class, but the professor did a great job supporting us with an email response and giving you extra credit for hard work. It would be best if you considered taking her CHEM class.
Chemistry is not a natural subject for me, considering the last chemistry class I attended was missing nine elements from the periodic table (so last century). Age has made me a more diligent student, Prof. Basnayake has made me a more informed one. Excellent video lectures. Accessible for clarification. Highly recommend.
I was not looking forward to taking chemistry but I would definitely take this class again! Professor B has the best lectures. She explains everything very well! Her reviews before each test are VERY helpful! Overall I would recommend her to anyone! TAKE HER!!
She is an nice professor, but the class is not so great. Lecture videos have a lot of information which can be overwhelming. Test are taken using LockDownBrowser + Webcam and has a set date and time of 6-8 pm. There is 4 Exams + Final. Every week, an assignment is due on Sunday, and a Lab is due on Friday. She gives a grading curve on exams.
Total of 10 lab simulations (due Fridays), 11 chapter assignments (due Sundays), 4 lecture exams and 1 final exam (proctored w/ webcam and scheduled at 6-8pm). Weekly lectures on chapters, don't fall behind on them. Best advice: DO THE PRACTICE PROBLEMS FROM LECTURE VIDEOS AND TEXTBOOK! Dr. B provides you with everything you need to succeed.
Professor B was compassionate and caring during a traumatic time in my life. She worked with me while taking care of my terminally ill mother and after the passing of my mother. She encouraged me when I had nothing left to give to myself. She's the definition of someone who actually cares about her students succeeding! TAKE HER!
I took this class during the 6 week summer, and I thought i was going to do bad considering. Overall the class was manageable with my busy life. There is total of 10 labs( easy) ,11 assignments and 3 test and one final. To succeed in this watch all lectures, practice HW questions and Review question that will help tremendously for the test.
Great professor and she do explain in details. One of the best prof I have taken so far
Very clearly articulates and explains the lectures and has practice problems to help you understand better during lecture. There are 4 exams, a Final exam, 10 labs, and homework every week. She gives plenty of opportunity to receive help and ask questions. She's focused on teaching but also jokes around and creates a good environment.
WORTH THE HYPE! Had unexpected events occur in my personal life and Dr.B worked with me greatly. AND the lectures are taught as if you have 0 background on chemistry! Drops lowest hw grade, lowest lab, and lowest exam. 4 exams + final. 11 hw assignments (around 15 questions each). If you view the lectures (1 hour for the WHOLE chapter)youll be good
she is literally always available for any questions and fast at replying to emails. Extra credits and Dr.B drops the lowest exam and Assignment grade. Nonetheless, Homework every week [easy questions from the book], missing class is not an option. Always be present [don't be late] and this won't be a hard class. She cares about her students!
Very understanding and helpful. She assists you with any areas in which you are lacking and provides excellent coaching outside of class. Watch her lecture videos, which are really informative and detailed. Make sure to do the Mastering tasks they will certainly assists you into passing. She's a great professor who has greatly aided further study.
Dr. B is Awesome. Very knowledgeable in chemistry and skilled at professing it. Tests are all MC. All of the content of the class is based on the textbook, so it is absolutely mandatory to have. (It's on Libgen for free!) Labs are interesting and are pretty leniently graded, just always remember to do the prelab. Seriously, don't forget.
Dr. B is a great CHEM Professor
Professor Basnayake was very helpful in so many ways! She drops your lowest test grade and curves the test scores based on how everyone did. Her chapter lectures are very organized and even has example problems from the homework. The labs are very fun!
Dr. B is a great professor who cares about you and your grade. She posts the lecture notes online and she wants you to have them printed out for class. There are plenty of labs and if you do not have the pre lab done, you will lose points and if you do not follow dress code for the lab, you will not be able to do it. Make sure to ask her questions
Dr. B is an amazing professor. She replies to emails quick and if you are having trouble with something she makes sure you get the help you need. I definitely recommend taking her class.
She is the best professor I have had so far and I will definitely take her class again.
She has one day for lectures and the next day meant for labs within a week and it repeats for the whole semester. She is very organized with her lessons and willing to stay after to help with homework or questions on the chapter lessons. She has handouts to practice for when exam dates are near on her course on D2L.
She does lecture videos if you watch them or read the handouts you will do fine. Lecture videos show her going over the math you learn. STUDY THE REVIEW MATERIALS SHE GIVES YOU, you will pass every test! Labs and assignments were easy and accessible. They were due at the end of the week, sometimes the assignments were due midweek.
Dr. B is a great professor. She is very engaging and encourages students to participate throughout the class. Make sure to do homework and quizzes but make sure you study for tests. Highly recommended and would def take her again. Best chem teacher by far tbh.
Amazing professor who cares about her students. Gives review questions that are very similar to the tests. Use Pearson for homework.
If you pay attention and do notes you'll be fine.
Very caring and helpful. Clearly explains concepts in a way that makes it easy to understand. Makes chemistry a breeze.
Tests are similar to the assignments and reviews. When taking the final, review past materials and exams with the professor since you will see similar questions on the final exam. She always drops you lowest assignment grade and lowest test grade so you can easily skip an exam day.
Dr. B is a great professor. She makes lecture videos accessible that cover all of the content, including how to complete computations. She makes review sheets to complete for each chapter that serve as study guides for the exams. Completing/understanding the review sheets are essential for exams! She is always willing to help when/if you reach out!
Dr. B was a great professor and gave amazing lectures. She was very helpful if you had a question or were having issues with a homework problem. The grading criteria was clear from the beginning and she offered help outside of class whether it was office hours or a web conference. I would definitely take her class again.
I'm thankful I took this professor. This class has been extremely tough for me personally, but Dr. B has provided all the resources and support to me. She will reach out if she sees you need help, she is very organized with her weekly assignments, and she is a very good communicator. She is an amazing professor and I would recommend her!!
Professor Rukma, or Dr. B., is one that I would not hesitate to have again. Her class is very structured and clear-cut. Her expectations are well-defined, and she gives very meaningful feedback. Her study guides are incredibly helpful for the tests, and the labs are both fun and manageable with highly reasonable due dates. 100% would take again!!!
Dr B is definitely someone I would take again. She is very helpful and wants you to ask questions. Tests are pretty much over the review material so if you study you will be fine. I would recommend taking the lecture I. Person instead of online so you can see explanations done step by step. Overall a fun class with fun labs.
Clear on what you will be on the test. Very sweet
She is a really good professor, if you want an A or a high grade in the class and want to actually learn chemistry take her. She lets you drop your lowest test grade, assignment, lab, and does extra credit. Her reviews are the best
Just study and you will be alright
Great teacher, lecture videos are informative and easy to understand. Reviews are well made and the questions themselves are very similar to those in the exams. Finally the feedback she provides to questions is quick and snappy, all in all a great teacher fluent you need to know about chemistry. 10/10
Dr. B is very helpful. There are 10 assignments, 10labs, 4 exams and 1 final. She will drop the lowest score for each subject, but not final. You need to study hard in this class to get the good result. However, Dr B will show everything clearly, make sure you follow her instruction, then you should be fine with this class.
Watch the videos and do the recommended hw. If you do that you will make an A in the class. If you have questions she will answer as soon as possible.
Study the review materials, handouts, textbook, and MyMathLab assignments for the tests. Review materials helped the most with tests. 11 MyMathLab assignments (3 attempts for each), 10 labs, 4 exams, 1 final, and 1 extra credit (from evaluation). Around 6 lecture videos each week for the hybrid class, lab report, pre-lab, & post-lab ~each week.
She is very easy, and caring. She can help you whenever you need. I did meet her sometimes in her office to explain somethings about lectures before class. 4 tests - 10 HW/Quizes - 9 labs. She will omit the lowest scores in each category. HW every week but she may pick up your HW or give you in person quiz or online quiz (everything in your HW).
Dr. B sets clear expectations from the beginning. She follows the syllabus to the T. This is an easy class as long as you do the work. She drops the lowest exam and lab score. Test reviews are the secret to doing well. She takes the class very serious and expects everyone to be ready and prepared at the start of every class.
For me I don't think I learn very well the a teacher like Dr. B. I personally feel that she doesn't connect all the concepts together in her lecture videos. So, it becomes harder to understand how all the concepts relates to each other.
Dr. B gave us clear guidelines and expectations for her class. Her online lectures were made by her and she puts in a large amount of work to make sure you have the resources you need to succeed in her class. The labs were in person and were very straightforward. Dr. B was a great way to start off my first semester back and I would recommend her.
Took Chem before and really struggled with the concepts. Dr. B finally made everything make sense. WATCH HER LECTURES IF YOU ARE TAKING THE CLASS ONLINE. You will have to study and do your part, but everything is so straightforward with Dr. B. I would without a doubt take her again in a heart beat
Super easy, the reviews are basically the test, it is lecture heavy so there is a lot of information intake each lecture. Drops your lowest grade in each category, but make sure to do your homework because she takes it up sometimes and sometimes she gives a pop quiz thats exactly like the homework.
Dr. B is a fantastic professor who has inspired me to study chemistry. She lives up to her great reviews. Her office hours are great, and will go over labs, homework, study, etc. Dr. B doesn't make students feel bad for not knowing how to solve problems. I probably asked over 100 questions this semester! Please do yourself a service and take her.
An easy A if you go to class and pay attention. She gives extra credit. Great lectures with a break in the middle to split up a very long class time. There are 4 tests, 10 labs, and HW assignments after each lecture that are super quick to complete. She even drops your lowest test, HW, AND lab grade. 10/10 would recommend.
The teacher's class structure was excellent. Tests were graded very quickly, and you could expect to see your score on the same day or the next day. The she provided many extra credit opportunities and dropped many assignments in the course, including one exam, one lab, and one homework assignment.
I came into this class with practically no knowledge of chemistry and left with an A. She cares about her students and will do her best to help you (Especially going to office hours). She offers 3 extra credit points on your final grade. 4 tests, 10 assignments, 10 labs, dropping one of each. It sucks she doesn't teach gen chem 2, amazing teacher.
Dr. B is amazing. Her D2L is full of fun stuff and organized fairly well. Also, she really takes the time to help her students succeed, so don't hesitate to ask her If you have questions.
Great professor for a fast-paced course, she always explained concepts repeatedly despite how often people asked her to repeat them. The course page was super accessible and had many resources to get an excellent grade in the class. One tip: don't underestimate the lecture videos, they significantly help to stay on track within the course.
An overall amazing professor! She truly cares for her students and wants them all to succeed. She is very helpful and is available for office hours, outside of lecture. Very clear on grading criteria from the very beginning of the class. Fair grading and not an overwhelming amount of work. I would definitely take her again! Thanks Dr.B!
